What are OSBs made of?

OSB boards appeared in our country only a dozen years ago, but they have been known in the world for more than three decades, since the time it was invented frame technology construction of houses. For sheathing the frame, I needed absolutely new material: durable and at the same time light, reliable and easy to install - neither natural wood nor chipboard fit these parameters. This is how OSB was invented, or OSB (oriented particle board). It is made up of layers of wood shavings. The main binders are phenolic resins combined with paraffin; in Europe, melamine binders are used for boards used in furniture production. In the outer layers, the chips are laid along the plate, and in the inner - across. The mutually perpendicular arrangement of the chips makes them more resistant to external influences. It can be said that with a minimum thickness and low weight, OSB achieves maximum strength indicators, and it is this material that gives rigidity to the entire structure of the frame pie. At the same time, just OSB may turn out to be the most vulnerable link in the entire structure - the participants of our portal were convinced of this from their own experience. We will analyze the most common OSB problems and try to solve them with the help of experts.

European and American OSB standards

There are two classifications of OSB boards. According to the European standard EN 300, they are divided into four classes.

  • OSB1 - boards that are used in dry conditions; they make furniture, upholstery. This is a non-structural material.
  • OSB2 - used indoors in dry conditions as a structural board.
  • OSB3 - used as a structural board in a humid environment, including outside buildings. Due to the optimal ratio of cost, moisture resistance and strength, this material is most in demand by builders. frame houses on FORUMHOUSE, including for facade cladding.

Urgenz Member of FORUMHOUSE

I see no reason not to use OSB on the facade. It looks great (there is a texture, not a smooth sheet), light (ease of installation), it lasts much longer than wood.

OSB made in the USA and Canada are divided into three classes. Criterion - the level of water resistance of the binder chip substance:

  • Interior - for interior structural work in dry conditions.
  • Exposure 1 are structural boards that can withstand short periods of exposure to moisture, so they can be used for interior decoration wet rooms and for outdoor work (subject to finishing with another material).
  • Exterior - withstand alternating cycles of wetting and drying, contact with the ground, prolonged exposure to adverse weather conditions.

The following American standards roughly correspond to European standards:

  • OSB2-Interior;
  • OSB3 - Exposure 1;
  • OSB4 - Exterior.

OSB in frame construction

Due to the popularity of frame houses, OSB boards are one of the most discussed materials in FORUMHOUSE. The debate about what should look like " proper pie”, how to reduce its cost without compromising structural strength, what is the role of OSB in frame structure whether it is possible to use OSB for facade decoration.

In the diagram proposed for discussion FORUMHOUSE member BulKonst, two options for a frame pie are shown: in Figure A - classic pie, in figure B - budget execution classic version(saving 1.5 times).

The idea to reduce the price of the pie by removing from it such an element as sheathing the frame on the outside with OSB boards did not meet with understanding at FORUMHOUSE, because "in construction, the miser pays three times." Namely, OSB gives the reliability of the entire structure.

Svidig Member of FORUMHOUSE

Without OSB, the house can develop.

OSB-boards with the most better side showed themselves during the earthquake in Japan: frame houses survived, although wooden and stone houses collapsed in the neighborhood.

Solovyov Artem Project Manager Soppka OSB Protektor

The main purpose of OSB boards is to stiffen the structure.

It is OSB that gives the house the opportunity to stand for several decades. But this is if the pie is mounted correctly. Technology frame housing construction taking into account local conditions in Russia, it is only being created, it is a little more than ten years old. Therefore, there are no exact, scientifically verified technologies of frame housing construction in Russia yet. In fact, so far each construction company more or less their own technologies- therefore, there is always a chance that the ventilation will be done incorrectly, and unprotected OSB boards will be in an environment with high humidity and become infected with mold or fungus, which will spread further to the insulation and frame.

How to protect OSB

FORUMHOUSE member with nickname fast and furious found that the street side of his house "went a lot" when he lived in it for 4.5 years. It turned out that there was a complete destruction of the OSB.

Fast and Furious FORUMHOUSE Member

I read from SIP builders how wonderful they are, SIP panels. And they don’t burn in fire, and they don’t drown in water, and a pood weight hangs on one self-tapping screw. Only the fungus eats it calmly and makes fun of me.

For a long time it was believed that only the frame should be covered with bioprotection, and OSB-plates and other structural elements do not need it. This is wrong - OSB boards were not covered with bioprotection simply because until recently there was no composition that would have good adhesion with OSB boards.

The house is treated with a specialized fire-retardant compound

Artem Solovyov

AT frame house everything is interconnected. The frame holds the house, and OSB makes the frame stronger. Even the counter-lattice on which the OSB boards are attached must be treated with a bioprotective composition. To protect each element of the structure, there are products.

OSB for facade finishing

birdofprey

If there is a desire to throw money away, then you can use the OSB as a finish, and a complete one.

For facade decoration houses on OSB boards can be used clinker tiles, ceramic tiles imitating brick, siding or timber imitation. Also, the plates can be plastered.

If the choice of finishing on OSB boards fell on plaster, then there may also be problems with the choice additional material. Such work cannot be carried out directly on OSB, the plates must be protected.

Nadegniy Member of FORUMHOUSE

According to the OSB, the plaster will hold for some time, cracks at the joints of the OSB will appear in the first winter, the edges of the OSB sheets will gradually swell, and the finish will darken with them.

Here are the variants of the "plaster pie" that have been successfully used at FORUMHOUSE.

If overlays were made:

  • OSB + primer + elastic plaster + overlays.
  • OSB + concrete-contact + elastic plaster + overlays.
  • OSB + primer + reinforcement. mesh + plaster + overlays.

If pads were not used:

  • Wet facade: OSB + PPS (expanded polystyrene; PSB-S 25F) + base reinforcing layer + decorative plaster.
  • OSB + reinforced mesh+ primer + putty + elastic plaster.
  • OSB + 2 layers of glassine + mesh + plaster.

OSB boards can be easily painted. It is to paint - a simple varnish coating is not good, the varnish does not protect against ultraviolet radiation, it is necessary to give the tree color. Now, by the way, paints have appeared that are several times cheaper than European ones.

Artem Solovyov

The sun will eventually burn the resin from the surface OSB boards, the chips will move away, cracks will appear into which moisture will get. Naturally, with the change of seasons and from constant freezing and freezing, the wood chips will move away even more.

An example of finishing a house with facade paint

Microorganisms form in these cracks. Grey colour The OSB of the slab indicates that the slab is ALREADY infected.

Should boards be puttied before painting? Perhaps, the structure of the OSB, untouched by putty, looks better than a smooth sheet and more resembles the original half-timbered.

Members of our portal who have great experience work with OSB, it is recommended to approach the choice of a slab for finishing the facade responsibly. Regardless of which grade of OSB you choose, make sure that their top layer does not contain bark. If there is still bark on the leaf, it is carefully separated with a sharp tool and torn off.

Very often, developers have doubts about how to finish walls from OSB. After all, there are a lot of options, and the choice of a specific solution depends on many factors and application features: the structure is located outside or inside, the surface that is finished with it (walls, floor or ceiling) and the characteristics of the material used. Only by taking into account all factors can an excellent result be achieved.

Main types of finishes

As noted above, there are a lot of finishing methods, the main thing is to take into account the features of the operation of a particular object. Consider the main options with which you can transform your walls, floors and ceilings.

Coloring

The easiest way, which, nevertheless, has a lot of nuances.

In this way it is very easy to spoil the plates, so you should follow a few simple rules:

  • Do not use water-based paints, as the material may swell.
  • Ideal option - compositions on oil based, which do not cause deformation of the plates, while providing good quality coatings.
  • If you use fire-retardant compounds, you should immediately determine whether they are compatible with paint, often additional surface treatment with special primer solutions is required.
  • Remember that the most problematic places through which damage most often begins are the edges of the plates, they need to be given special attention and processed especially carefully.
  • It is best to cover the surface with several layers of paint, each subsequent can be applied only after the previous one has completely dried.
  • The seams between the elements are best additionally protected with special strips or sealing compounds.

Varnishing and putty

If you are wondering how to finish the OSB board without closing the structure, then you should use varnish, as it emphasizes the beauty of the wood. In this case, there is often a need to level and strengthen the plates, in which case it is necessary to putty the surface ().

In this case, it is worth using special transparent formulations, they make the structure absolutely smooth and significantly increase the resistance to scratches and damage. Applying varnish gives the surface a particular shade and makes it even more attractive.

Advice! You can purchase sheets with one side already sanded. Such products do not require additional processing and are immediately ready for installation. Most often they are used as a full-fledged floor covering.

Wallpapering

If wall decoration with OSB plates is used inside the house, it often becomes necessary to wallpaper the surface ().

In this case, the following set of measures is applied:

  • The first stage is surface treatment with a primer, which should ensure the creation of a reliable protective layer.
  • Next, the surface must be puttied with a special composition, the basis of which is synthetic resin or a mixture of them.
  • After that, fiberglass or other similar material is glued.
  • Only after doing all the activities, you can start pasting the wallpaper, otherwise you risk damaging the plates, since the wallpaper paste is diluted with water.

Surface plastering

The only option than to finish the OSB outside is the use of plaster compositions.

This type of work also has its own characteristics:

  • The surface is best waterproofed with roll materials- glassine, roofing felt or liquid rubber.
  • Next, the surface should be reinforced plaster mesh- this will significantly strengthen the surface and prevent the appearance of cracks after applying the final layer.
  • The mesh is plastered, if the wall is external, it is better to purchase a special composition for reinforcing facade structures.
  • Then you can proceed in two ways: the finishing of OSB walls inside the building is most often done with putty, which allows you to achieve ideal flat surface. Exterior finish is most often completed by a layer decorative plaster, which not only creates a durable coating, but also has a certain structure or even a pattern (this can be a "bark beetle", Bayramix and much more).

Advice! Pay close attention to the choice of material for exterior finish walls, its quality depends on how durable the cladding will be.

The device of various coatings

If you make repairs with your own hands, then you should know that the following materials can be laid on the OSB slab without any problems:

  • Ceramic tiles can also be installed without any problems. The main thing is to treat the surface with a primer and apply a special adhesive solution designed to connect wood materials and ceramic products.
  • If you decide to lay linoleum, carpet or other similar material, the preparation consists in leveling the surface and filling in all the seams silicone sealant, it is elastic, so in case of expansion of the plates, the system will remain intact.
  • Often OSB sheets applied as preparatory basis under laminated floors. In this case, the surface is leveled and fixed. After that, the substrate is laid, then the laminate can be laid.

Conclusion

This article is a kind of instruction that sets out the basic rules for working with surfaces finished with OSB boards. The video in this article will help you visualize some of the features of this type of work ().

OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a modern building material that replaces plywood. Sheathing the walls of a frame house with a slab allows you to increase the functionality of the building and give it an aesthetic appearance. In this article, we will tell you how to conduct an internal and outer skin walls, as well as analyze the advantages and disadvantages of OSB-boards.

Scope of material

AT recent times OSB products received wide application in various directions, for example:

  • in the production of furniture and containers;
  • for interior decoration of cars and trucks;

In construction, this product cannot be dispensed with. Due to its unique manufacturing technology, the plate does not deform, does not shrink, and also allows you to hide all internal defects. If we consider the use of plates in the context of work, it is used for:

  • Sheathing of the walls of the house, which gives greater protection to the structure from the penetration of moisture, dampness, and also additionally insulates the walls. After sheathing, the product does not require finishing works. Construction of frame-panel structures, OSB increases the moisture resistance of the structure. The board can be used in the construction of reusable formwork.
  • External wall cladding. Used as a base, internal works it serves as a finishing material.
  • Manufacture of lathing, rafters and roofing. The plate is able to withstand any load and the weight of the roof itself.
  • Alignments floor covering or to build it from scratch. This material is an ideal option for obtaining a durable and even floor.

For information! If the OSB product is located outside the building and needs to be painted, difficulties may arise, because. the coating used must reliably protect the product from external factors (wind, precipitation, sunlight).

Types of plates and their characteristics

All products are divided into 4 types, each of which is responsible for its field of application. Types of plates are:

  • OSB-1 - designed for work in conditions of low humidity;
  • OSB-2 - designed for the construction and arrangement of load-bearing structures indoors;
  • OSB-3 - designed for the installation of walls, partitions and durable load-bearing structures;
  • OSB-4 - designed to carry out construction works accompanied by high loads.

For information! The oriented strand board market consists of 90% of the type OSB 3.

The main characteristics of the plates include:

  • Convenient product size that is ideal for different applications, for example, you can cover two spans at the same time.
  • Ease of processing.
  • All products are easily sawn with any tool, and the saw cut is smooth, without cracks and punctures.
  • Strength, the product is able to withstand a large load, hold any type of fastener. The quality of the plate is not inferior to the massive board. Smooth surface.
  • The product does not require additional finishing or processing, after its installation, you can immediately perform painting or cladding.
  • Low cost makes the product popular and in demand.
  • Light weight. Average weight plate is 18 kg, which at times facilitates the task of its delivery and skidding.

Advantages and disadvantages of the product

The main advantages of the material include the following:

  • High strength: modulus elasticity, bending tear resistance.
  • Moisture resistance due to special resin impregnation, which makes the plate hardy to rain and snow.
  • They absorb noise well. Due to the chips and resin formed high density, which eliminates extraneous sounds.
  • Light weight. The product can weigh from 15 to 40 kg.
  • Easy to install. The product is easy to attach and cut with absolutely any tool.
  • Environmentally friendly. The production technology uses the allowable amount of wax and resins, each product has a special Eco label.

Of the shortcomings, only one can be noted - the use of low-quality resins containing a large amount of formaldehyde, which can evaporate and harm human health. But to use such plates for outer skin buildings are absolutely safe.

External finishing of the building

The external cladding of the walls of a frame house requires compliance with certain rules that follow from the characteristics of the products. For outdoor work, products with a thickness of at least 11 mm are used. The work process is divided into stages:

  • OSV plate is attached to the rack in such a way that the joint is located in the middle.
  • There must be a gap of at least 3 mm between the plates.
  • The bottom trim must be covered with a sheet.
  • With a two-story building, the sheet must necessarily go to the rack of two floors, this will give greater rigidity to the structure.
  • sheathing window openings performed as a whole sheet, which allows you to make all the joints on adjacent racks. Window openings are simply carefully cut out.
  • For fastening, it is best to use spiral nails or self-tapping screws.

It is worth noting that when sheathing a frame house from the outside, experts follow certain rules:

  • fixation of plates in intermediate sections is fixed at a distance of 300 mm; the joints of the plates are fixed every 150 mm;
  • for every 100 mm, the outer side is flashed;
  • to prevent splitting of the material, fasteners must be placed at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the product;
  • the slab should be fixed both in a horizontal and vertical position, this will give greater strength and reliability to the building.

Interior decoration of the building

Sheathing a frame house inside OSB with slabs practically does not differ from drywall. The only thing is that when fixing the plates, it is necessary to use strong fasteners, because. slab weighs more than drywall. For installation use wooden frame and self-tapping screws 50 mm. After fixing the products, they can be sanded and primed.

For information! Tiles can be laid as flooring to obtain durable coating it is necessary to place the panels perpendicular to the lags.

In addition to priming and painting, products can be processed with absolutely any facing material.

  • Varnish. The technology of use is the same as for flooring.
  • Dye. Water-based paint products perfect option, because they are best able to pass steam and provide a good indoor climate. As a rule, paints for ordinary wood are used.

Important! The use of water-based paints and varnishes will lead to deformation of the plate.

  • Wallpaper is glued only after careful priming of the surface, using wallpaper glue with the addition of PVA.
  • Plaster. Sheets can be plastered, for this they use a mixture for interior work.

Sheathing an OSB house with a product is optimal and inexpensive option building material capable of increasing performance and improve the appearance of the building.

For repairs in an apartment, as well as in the construction of individual frame houses, a relatively new material is increasingly being used, which is called oriented strand board (OSB or OSB, if you use transliteration from English).
The use of OSB boards makes it quite easy to fill large areas light, even and strong base, without spending on it a large number time and money.

However, after the completion of this work, the question often arises of how to cover the OSB plate in order to preserve its appearance and operational properties on the long term. In this article, we will give some practical advice how to finish finishing various designs made from OSB.

Where OSB boards are used

The growing popularity of OSB leads to their use in a variety of areas, from construction to the production of furniture, containers and interior trim of truck bodies. Most often, the problem of surface treatment occurs when carrying out the following types works:

  • floor arrangement;
  • mounting internal partitions and overlaps;
  • exterior cladding of frame houses.

The greatest difficulty is the coloring of OSB boards located on outdoors, since the coating used must hold securely on the surface of the plate, protect it from external influences ( sunlight, water, snow, etc.) and withstand significant temperature fluctuations.

OSB surface finish when installing floors

To build a flat surface for finishing floors, use. This category has sufficient strength and moisture resistance to provide a solid base for floors laid both on concrete screed, so on wooden logs located directly above open ground.

Depending on the type of floors, OSB slabs can be laid different types coatings:

  • varnish. varnish is made in several layers on a thoroughly cleaned and degreased surface. If there are increased requirements for the quality of the floor, it is better to use polished slabs, otherwise the base must be processed sandpaper or iron brush, sand by hand and then primed. After varnishing, the surface of the plate retains its structure and forms a flat and smooth surface.
  • Roll materials. To cover with linoleum or carpet, it is necessary to ensure that there are no irregularities at the points of contact of the plates. To do this, the expansion gaps are treated with an elastic silicone sealant and carefully cleaned. The best results are obtained when using boards of minimum thickness.
  • Tile. For installation of tiles it is necessary to use special adhesive compositions for joining ceramics and wood.
  • . When using this flooring, it is only necessary to prepare a flat base, which, if correct, turns out to be almost perfect.

Finishing of internal partitions

OSB manufacturing technology involves the use of various binders, such as resins, dyes, essential oils etc. With the direct application of finishing materials, these substances may appear on subsequent layers of the coating. That's why OSB finishing indoors should begin with the application of a primer.

Some board manufacturers add wax or paraffin to their resins so that their work surface becomes smooth and slippery. To work with such boards, it is necessary to use a primer containing quartz sand, which helps the following coating elements to adhere to the surface.

After priming, the OSB board can be treated with any facing materials:

  • Varnish. The technology for using varnish is the same as for flooring.
  • Dye. It is better to use water-based paints and varnishes, as they allow steam to pass through better, which provides a more comfortable indoor climate. Usually, the same paints are used for interior work as for ordinary wood. When using water-based types of paint, some deformation of the board is possible due to the swelling of the chips in it, so it is advisable to evaluate the effect of a particular coating on a test panel before use.
  • Wallpaper. It is not recommended to glue wallpaper directly on the slab for the reasons described above. They are fixed on a pre-primed wall with wallpaper glue with the addition of PVA.

External finishing of OSB boards

The use of oriented strand boards as exterior cladding requires compliance with certain rules arising from. Of course, the optimal solution is to use traditional views finishes - clinker tiles, siding or lining, but often OSB application in construction is dictated by the need to get results with least cost, so the most popular is OSB painting.

Sheathed OSB outer wall at home

For this, any dye intended for outdoor processing ordinary wood. It is especially important to consider the following points:

  • The most vulnerable part OSB boards are its ends. Therefore, to process the expansion gap between the plates, it is necessary to use acrylic sealant and carefully ensure that it evenly fills all existing cavities.
  • Experts recommend processing all sharp edges and edges until rounding with a radius of at least 3 mm is formed. This is necessary to evenly distribute the paint over the surface of the plate.
  • All surfaces must be primed and sealed before applying the final coat.

    It should be noted that the most porous part of the slab is its edge, so it is necessary to carefully monitor its processing, given that it absorbs more paint than the main plane of the slab.

  • The use of water-based primers and sealers can cause the wood fibers to swell over time, so sanding is sometimes required after they have dried.
  • The paint must be applied in several thin layers. Before applying a new layer, you must wait for the previous one to dry.
  • When choosing how to paint an OSB board, it must be borne in mind that some types of transparent dyes may lose their properties when exposed to sunlight. It is best to use water-based or oil paints because the paints on water based can cause deformation of the surface, they are recommended to process areas that do not have high requirements for appearance. Otherwise, it is better to use oil-based formulations.

Thus, for the treatment of surfaces from OSB panels, in most cases, you can use the same Decoration Materials, as for the usual massive board. At the same time, such products are simply mounted, form an even layer and withstand the required load well. Therefore, OSB boards are optimal solution for fast and inexpensive device building structures.

Usage sheet materials in the construction and decoration of housing - a matter long known. But if in the past it was necessary to get by with only chipboard, fiberboard or plywood, today the ranks of traditional samples have been replenished with new analogues with improved properties, which makes them more suitable for certain types works.

One example of such products is OSB boards for interior decoration, which will be discussed later.

What is OSB board?

OSB (OSB) is oriented strand board. The material is panels made from pressed shavings of coniferous and deciduous trees. Chip sizes can range from 60 to 150 mm.

OSB boards have high strength and density, due to the combination of several layers in them. In the middle, the chips are located across the sheet, and in the lower and upper layers- along.

All layers of material are pressed under high temperature and pressure and impregnated with waterproof resins and paraffin. Used as a binder phenolic and formaldehyde resins. Finished slabs have a homogeneous structure - without cracks, chips and cavities.

Is it harmful to use a stove for interior decoration?

The possibility of using OSB for finishing depends on the marking of the product, which in turn is determined by the amount of content in the material of synthetic resins that emit during operation harmful fumes.

The largest number toxic substances(from 10 to 30 mg per 100 g of dry matter) is contained in plates of class E2 and E3. OSB panels marked E0 and E1 contain in their composition a minimum proportion of harmful components - from 6.5 to 10 mg. This is usually the product foreign manufacturers: Glunz (Germany), Norbord (Canada), Egger (Austria).

Thus, the products of the last two brands are most suitable for use for interior decoration.

Materials of class E2 and E3 can only be used for outdoor work.

To protect yourself from buying "dangerous" material, it is worth considering some points that partially determine right choice OSB:

  • stove smell. At high content harmful substances the material smells strongly of formalin and cheap plastic;
  • products must have a certificate certified by a seal from the manufacturer or supplier. A copy of the document can be requested from the seller;
  • it is also not superfluous to inspect the packaging, if any. Products of major manufacturers are usually labeled and provided with inserts with information.

How to make a partition from OSB inside the house and what screws to fix?

OSB - quite suitable material for the construction of internal partitions of rooms. strength and a light weight sheets clearly testify in favor of this product. OSB boards can be mounted on (like GKL) or on a wooden frame.

If the second option is used, the wood should be treated with protective materials against mold and mildew, as well as fire retardants.

Now as regards wall mounting diagrams, which will be considered on the example of a wooden frame:

  1. At the installation site of the structure, markup is made. Lines are drawn along the floor and ceiling, which will serve as guidelines for the installation of horizontal guides.
  2. Bars with a section of 4x6 cm are attached along the marking lines. If the wall is subjected to serious loads (for example, it is planned to hang furniture on it), it is better to use thicker bars - 5-8 cm. The guides are attached with dowels.
  3. Install vertical racks, which are fixed to the horizontal bars with the help of metal corners and self-tapping screws.
  4. The step between the racks depends on the width of the plate, which is different. So, if the transverse size of the OSB sheet is 125 cm (the value inherent in European brands), then optimal distance between axles vertical bars- 62.5 cm. In this case, it will be possible to screw the edges and the middle of the plate to the frame.

  5. After installing the racks, the OSB panels are mounted.

They are fixed with self-tapping screws, whose length depends on the thickness of the sheets and should be 45-50 mm more than this value. For example, when using a material with a thickness of 12 mm, the recommended length of self-tapping screws will be 60-65 mm.

In the middle of the plate, screws are screwed in increments of 30 cm, along the edges - every 15 cm. The indent from the edge is 1 cm. A gap of 1 cm is left between the plates and the floor. The same gap should remain between the OSB and the ceiling.

Also, the panels should not be installed closely, but at a distance of 3 mm from each other. This will protect the sheets from deformation during changes in humidity.

Internal wall cladding

This process, like the procedure described above, requires the preliminary construction of a frame, for which all the same wooden bars or profile. Now an example for arranging a crate will serve as metal version , since the wooden frame was discussed earlier.

Finishing the walls of OSB with a slab consists of the following steps:

  1. The first step is, as always, markup.
  2. If the wall is uneven, you should find the most protruding section of it, from which you should push off. Lines are drawn along the wall, after which a starting UD profile is attached to the floor and ceiling using self-tapping screws or dowels.

  3. Further, vertical CD profiles are inserted into the installed guides and also fixed - to the wall with the help of self-tapping screws and metal hangers, to the horizontal guides - with drilling screws. The step between the posts is the same as in the case of a wooden frame.
  4. To stiffen the crate, the vertical posts are reinforced with transverse profiles. At standard height ceilings (2.5 m) it will be enough to install two elements for each span.

Installation of plates is carried out in accordance with the rules mentioned in the instructions for the construction of partitions.

How to finish the stove inside the room?

Interior decoration of wooden country houses as in the photo can be completely different in cost and design. For finishing surfaces from OSB sheets are used various materials. Let's consider them further.

Is it possible to fix drywall on OSB?

Can. Moreover, it is not necessary to use metallic profile, but it is enough to fasten the material to the base with self-tapping screws.

The main thing here is to the humidity level in the room was not high, because otherwise it can lead to OSB deformation and, consequently, to the plasterboard sheathing. Self-tapping screws are screwed around the perimeter and in the center of the GKL in increments of 10-15 cm.

Painting with varnish and acrylic paint

varnish increases moisture resistance OSB boards. This finishing method is good for wet rooms. Plates can be painted with any varnish intended for natural wood. The surface is cleaned of dirt, degreased, cleaned with sandpaper and treated with a primer. Varnished OSB has a smooth surface, but retains its texture.

Also a good option for finishing OSB -. It rolls well with a roller on the surface and forms a durable and "breathable" coating.

For getting best effect it is desirable to paint in two layers.

Puttying with gypsum putty

Putty materials do not adhere well to wood. Therefore, it is best to use compounds that have maximum adhesion to wooden surfaces. It can be dry mixes "Rodband" or "Goldband" containing polymer additives and most suitable for woodworking. As a finish, you can use "Vitonit KR".

Before puttying OSB primed with a special compound, where glue, interlining and a little putty mixture are added. If this measure is neglected, then the impregnation of the base may come out on the finished surface, as a result of which the finish will become stained.

How to plaster the surface of OSB boards?

For plastering OSB, it is best to use a special mixture. For example, Knauf Sevener. The stucco finishing technology itself includes the following steps:

  • The joints between the plates are puttied and pasted over with a sickle.
  • The surface is treated with a primer (you can take Knauf Tifengrund).
  • The first layer of plaster is applied and a reinforcing mesh is sunk into it.
  • A covering and leveling layer is applied on top.

Glass wall sticker

If the plates smooth (polished), wallpaper can be glued directly on them. Otherwise, you will have to plaster and putty the surface, doing this according to the technology described above.

Glass fiber is glued to special formulations. In this case, the dry mixture "Methylan Fiberglass Premium" and the granular composition "Methylan Granulate Premium" are suitable.

How to glue ceramic tiles?

You can paste it in several ways:

  • fix the expanded mesh on the surface and lay the cladding on any adhesive for ceramic tiles;
  • install directly on the OSB board using adhesive for deformable surfaces;
  • use epoxy grout instead of adhesive.

The liquid wallpaper

This type of finish is applied to the OSB in the same way as on a regular wall. All you need is prepare the ground, sealing the joints and treating the surface with a primer.
