Roofing process

The design of the roof of the garage can consist of several stages, depending on what kind of roof is needed. The process of finishing the roof of the garage with corrugated board

Quite often, corrugated board is used as a roofing during the construction of a garage. This strong and durable material will serve faithfully if laid correctly.

Training

Step 1. The roof is being prepared - if necessary, a waterproofing layer is laid. Next, the installation of supports for the material begins - bars of 50x50 mm are laid on the base, and boards of 40x15 mm are laid across them.

Step 2 The bars are aligned strictly according to the level, and the cross-beam boards are also aligned.

Step 3 Longitudinal bars are attached to the base of the roof with frame bolts.

Step 4 The transverse boards are fixed with self-tapping screws to the bars - two pieces at the edges, and one at a time in the middle of the boards.

Step 7 For the first bituminous layer fabric strips are glued, which are then again smeared with bitumen.

Of course, when buying a metal tile, you will notice that its price is much higher than slate, but the roof from it will be much stronger and more durable. In addition, most of the work with the roof of such materials can be done by hand.

How to build a roof structure

The following materials can be used as a filler:

1. Pulverized composition (dust of slag, gypsum, limestone).
2. Fibers (asbestos and related materials).
3. Combination of the first two types.

Note! Before the mixture is applied to the crate, the bars should be cleaned and then oiled. If work is carried out with a crate of boards, any cracks and crevices are first eliminated in it, and the bitumen is heated immediately before work begins. In this case, the soil is applied first across the fibers of the boards or beams, and only then along.

When the soil dries out, the crate is covered with mastic, then the roofing material is overlapped. The width of the overlap should be about 15 cm. So that bubbles do not appear and the roofing material does not let water through, it must be carefully smoothed everywhere.

Roof covering with slate

Covering a garage roof with slate sheets is quick and easy. For laying slate, the crate should be made of boards 25 × 100 mm; if beams are used, then lumber with a section of 50 × 50 or 60 × 60 mm can be used. The crate is covered with a layer polyethylene film overlapped - this will prevent the roof from leaking in the future.

How to fix the slate? For its installation are used slate nails. The first sheet of slate is laid in the bottom row, joining the bottom of the sheet with the edge of the crate. The next sheet is overlapped on the side on the first one, closing one or two waves. In this case, the first sheet is fastened with nails only from the edge of the roof. Then the seam of the sheets is fixed with nails, and the second edge of the sheet is not fixed again - and so on until the end of the row. The top sheets are laid on top of the bottom row with an overlap of 12–14 cm. If the roof is gable, then a ridge is installed on top.

Note! Nails are driven into upper part waves. In order not to split the sheet from impact, you can take a drill with you to the roof, just fix it well on the roof so that it does not break if it falls.

Roof covering with ondulin

Sometimes people confuse ondulin with slate, and this is not surprising, since they are similar in shape, which cannot be said about the composition. Ondulin is soft, so in order to cover the garage with it, you must first cover the crate OSB sheets, otherwise it will bend under the pressure of snow (and from its own mass). When installing ondulin, fastening is done with special nails in each wave.

Roof covering with corrugated board

Here, a method of covering the roof based on corrugated board will be considered, but others can be used instead of this material, for example, metal tiles.

What is corrugated board? it sheet material profile section, having a profile width of up to 20 mm, with a coating-protection of zinc and polymers. Such a material has excellent rigidity required for roofing and can cope with rain loads.

Covering the garage roof with corrugated board is also easy. It is important to remember for yourself a number of rules that guide experienced roofers:

1. If the roof slope is less than 14 °, then the overlap of the sheets is 20 cm or more, and the seams are sealed with silicone.
2. With a slope of up to 30 °, the overlap is from 15 to 20 cm.
3. Roofs with a slope greater than 30° have an overlap of sheets from 10 to 15 cm.

Fasten the corrugated board as follows. It is laid on the crate and fastened with screws to the bottom of the wave. For this, not ordinary metal screws are used, but special ones with a wide hat and a neoprene gasket, as well as a sharp drill at the tip. One sheet may require about 20 screws, or even more.

Note! When arranging a roof from corrugated board, one should not forget to make vapor and waterproofing, as well as leave a small gap through which the garage roof will be ventilated.

The crate, created for corrugated board, is typed in increments that will allow you to attach sheets of metal to it clearly along the waves. For a roof whose slope is not higher than 15 °, do solid crate. A roof with a large slope can have a crate in increments of 35–50 cm.
