How to cut ceiling plinths - tools and cutting rules. How to cut plastic skirting boards? How to cut plastic skirting boards for the ceiling

Every apartment has a baseboard. Thanks to this integral attribute, the final design of the room takes place and gives it a neat appearance. The plinth can be made from different materials, but plastic is especially popular at the moment. It is lightweight and easy to install, but to cut and install it correctly you need to know some subtleties. So, for example, many people wonder how to cut plastic skirting boards. In our article you will learn about the advantages of plastic strips, cutting methods, and also get acquainted with step by step instructions which will help you get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Advantages

Wooden plinths or MDF panels require special conditions during their installation and further care. Unlike the above materials, the PVC material lath has taken a leading position due to its positive characteristics, namely:

  • Attractive appearance.
  • Large selection of colors and textures of materials with the possibility of imitation expensive breeds tree.
  • Moisture resistance. They can be safely installed not only in the bedroom, kitchen, hallway, but also in the bathroom, shower stall, and toilet.
  • Plastic does not require painting or other protective coating.
  • Fillets are easy to choose for absolutely any design solution.
  • Easy to process and easy to attach to the wall.
  • Strength, wear resistance and long service life.
  • Complete safety of the material for human and animal health.
  • All modern plastic strips are made exclusively from high-quality raw materials in all respects sanitary standards and requirements.
  • The product can serve as a kind of channel for masking wires.
  • Ease of use.
  • Affordable pricing policy.

Important! The only disadvantage of PVC bars is their poor resistance to abrasive cleaning agents, which can leave scratches on the top decorative layer.

How to cut plastic skirting?

What tool should I use to cut the material to make it beautiful and correct angle for mounting a plastic strip? This question arises in almost everyone who has started renovations in an apartment. Selected construction tool will undoubtedly affect the evenness of the edge and cut of the product. That is why the issue must be approached with special responsibility and the desire to follow all the recommendations of experienced specialists.

How to cut PVC skirting boards:

  • Hacksaw for metal. This tool is suitable for cutting only thin baseboards. This is due to the fact that a hacksaw for metal has, although small, uneven teeth, which can give an uneven shape to the product.
  • Hand jigsaw. Considered one of the the best tools for cutting corners of floor and ceiling fillets. The jigsaw will cut the material as smoothly as possible if the performer maintains the correct angle.

Important! The tool has only one drawback - small size, which will fundamentally affect the speed of work on a large number details.

  • Stationery knife. Suitable only for cutting thin baseboards. It is possible to obtain a thin and even cut only with great experience performer with this type of instrument. A beginner will have to spend large number time to obtain the desired result.
  • Metal scissors. Such a tool can be used with plastic baseboards, but the material may become wrinkled under strong pressure from the blade.
  • Cutting planks using a miter box. This device was made specifically for correct cutting of plastic skirting boards. A miter box is a small block with cutouts for the plinth with different angular clearances for the selected cutting tool. It is with the help of a miter box that you are guaranteed to get smooth and neat cuts. The bar is fixed inside the device, then the angle and correct direction of the cut are selected.
  • Stencil cutting. This method is advisable to use for cutting skirting boards for non-standard shaped angles that are less than or greater than 90 degrees. It is easy to make similar stencils of the required angular value yourself from paper or cardboard. First, strips equal to the width of the plinth are cut from the selected material. Then they are applied to the corner of the room and fixed, and then cut to the shape of the same corner. These stencils are used to cut the plastic strip itself.

Important! When working with a miter box, you must ensure that the edges of the fillet protrude slightly beyond the edges of the slot. If the tool for cutting the plinth is wider than the plinth itself, then in this case it will be correct to fix the part inside the miter box. Otherwise, the bar may move inside the tool, and the cutting angle will constantly change, which will lead to uneven edges of the product.

How to cut plastic skirting boards at internal corners?

In this master class we will look at the method of cutting skirting boards using a miter box. There is nothing complicated here, the main thing is to follow all the steps described below in the exact sequence:

  1. We cut the plank according to the perimeter of the room. To speed up the process, you can draw a diagram of it on a sheet of paper with the outer and inner corners marked.
  2. Place a plastic sheet in the miter box.
  3. We find a groove on the side of the tool with a mark of 45 degrees.
  4. Focusing on the chosen place, we begin to cut the fillet with a hacksaw.
  5. We clean the resulting edge sandpaper with fine grain.
  6. Use a pencil or marker to mark the floor. We draw the future border of the product on one and the other side of the corner. So we got a kind of rhombus in the corner, the diagonal of which is the cutting line.
  7. We apply the plinth to the resulting figure, and then mark its diagonal.
  8. We draw a line from the resulting point to the corner of the plastic fillet - this will be the cutting line. Focusing on this line, we cut the baseboard with a hacksaw.
  9. We process the end of the material with sandpaper.
  10. We lay the cables in a special channel with inside products. We close the cable channel with a decorative plastic plug.
  11. We screw the baseboards to the wall using self-tapping screws and dowels, having first placed corners or plugs on their ends.
  12. We insert a plug into the resulting plinth joint to form a neat internal corner planks.

How and with what to cut plastic floor plinths at non-standard angles?

Sometimes it happens that due to new design solutions the corners are quite non-standard shape. In this case, installing the plinth becomes a little more complicated, since the corners can be both external and internal at the same time. And sometimes the corners are completely rounded. For correct installation For such a product, you cannot use the above-described steps for cutting and installing the plinth at a standard angle. What to do and how to solve the problem with this turn of events?

IN detailed master class you will find answers to your questions about cutting skirting boards for rounded corners:

  1. Cut the plank into 4-5 equal parts.
  2. We lay out the entire corner of the plinth on the floor in small parts using plugs for connection.
  3. Don’t forget to fix the corners on the product with glue or putty. This is how we got a neat rounded corner.

If there is an outside-out corner in the room, then follow these steps.

You can do the work with the ceiling plinth yourself. Their installation is not difficult, but there is one point that can ruin the whole job: namely, cutting the plinth for the corners. How to trim ceiling plinth Let's get it right in the article.

Ceiling plinths differ in the materials from which they are made. The price range and appearance vary depending on the material. Choosing the right skirting board depends on your financial capabilities and interior design.

  1. Foam fillets;
  2. Polystyrene foam baseboard;
  3. Plaster plinths;
  4. Wooden skirting boards;
  5. PVC skirting boards.

Foam skirting boards

The most common option. They are sold primarily in white, so they must be painted if a different color is needed.
Such skirting boards are inexpensive and, due to their lightness, can be installed on suspended ceilings. Installation is simple, no need to call specialists or friends for help, all work can be done alone.

One of the disadvantages of polystyrene foam is its sensitivity to many substances. Finding glue is quite difficult. Those that are too weak are not able to hold the panel, and the glue with chemicals the composition may simply corrode the material.

Foam doesn't hold up mechanical influences, so working with it requires care. You can’t put pressure on it; you need to cut it with extreme caution.

Foam panels look nice, but should not be used with more expensive materials, it will look ridiculous.

Polystyrene foam baseboard

They feature a wide range of designs. You can choose one suitable for any interior.

The price for such fillets is much higher than for foam fillets. It will depend on the design and size. It is much easier to care for them; they are not afraid of wet cleaning. They will not harbor insects or mold.
However, during installation it is not convenient to work with them: they are very fragile and are afraid of any impact.

It will take a long time to choose the glue, since the material is easily susceptible to chemical attack. It is not elastic, which means it is quite difficult to install it on a curved area. They are advised to be painted, as over time there is a high probability that they will turn yellow. Highly flammable. Expanded polystyrene is not an environmentally friendly material; it contains synthetic components.

Gypsum skirting boards

In terms of their design, they represent the widest range of choices among ceiling skirting boards. They look rich and add sophistication to the room. They will cost significantly more than other types.

Gypsum is environmentally friendly pure material, they can be installed in any room. Do not support combustion. But in terms of weight they are ahead of their counterparts. Not any glue can withstand plaster, you will have to use special compounds. During installation, you will need two people, because the plaster does not attach well to the surface due to its weight.
Plaster panels will not fit into any interior. They are more suitable classic style. Their use in modern styles doubtful. You can make a drawing to order, but the material still limits the design.

PVC skirting boards

They are distinguished by their durability and variety of design options. Plastic is not afraid of moisture and fire. Easy to care for, can be cleaned with detergents.
The cost of PVC fillet does not exceed the cost of other synthetic skirting boards. However, plastic tends to turn yellow, but it cannot be painted.

Wooden skirting boards

The most expensive. Their prices will vary depending on the type of wood, but even the cheapest ones will cost a pretty penny.

Wood panels used much less frequently than others. It is quite difficult to fit them into the interior of the apartment. They are used mainly in private homes.
Their installation requires certain skills. In addition to using glue, it is recommended to additionally use nails and screws. It is impossible to complete the installation alone. Of course, you can choose any design; in a carpentry workshop you can have a unique carving made according to your own sketches, but then the cost will at least double.

the tree remains natural material, which means that it is absolutely safe. Pay attention to the impregnations that were used when processing the fillet. They should not contain toxic substances, otherwise there is no point in the fact that the tree is environmentally friendly. Wood is the most durable material; you have to try hard to damage it.

Required tools and materials

First you need to prepare the panels themselves. Depending on the material you will need different instruments in order to cut the fillets correctly.

PVC fillets are not as fragile, but are still susceptible to dents. You can cut them construction knife or a hacksaw. Expanded polystyrene is more fragile than PVC. It may simply crumble when cut. You need to use well-sharpened tools. Will fit sharp knife or a hacksaw for metal. When working, do not put too much pressure on the material. Polyurethane panels are easy to cut and do not crumble. They can be cut with a knife. It is most convenient to cut wooden panels with an electric saw or a hacksaw. The teeth must be small.
What else you may need while working:

  1. Miter box;
  2. Knife, hacksaw or power saw for cutting panels;
  3. Paper and pencil for drawing and marking;
  4. Ruler and square.

Miter box - special tool for cutting panels at a certain degree. It is inexpensive, so it makes sense to buy it for more quality work. You can make it yourself or draw a layout on paper in its likeness.

How to cut ceiling plinth

Using a miter box

Corners in an apartment are divided into external and external. The cutting technology will be slightly different. How to properly cut skirting boards for an internal corner.
The fillet is installed on the corner. Mark a cutting line on it right along the corner of the wall. The markings on the opposite plinth are done in exactly the same way, only on the other side.

The panel is installed in a miter box, the side that is attached to the ceiling should be at the bottom. Place the end at an angle of 45 degrees into a special hole. The panel should fit snugly against the wall of the miter box. Smoothly cut off the unnecessary edge. The adjacent part is also cut in a mirror image. After cutting, check the joint of the skirting boards by placing them against the corner. If the joint is uneven, you will have to cut it again.

If you are performing the procedure for the first time, then you can first practice on small unnecessary pieces, so you will get better at it.

The cut for the outer corner is made in the same sequence, only in the opposite direction. The side that is attached to the ceiling should be on top. Cutting occurs from right to left for the right side of the corner and, vice versa, for the left.

Marking

When cutting corners, a miter box makes the process easier, but you can do the job without it.

Then you can make markings directly on the corner or make a mock-up of it.
If you decide to make markings directly on the ceiling, then attach the panel to the corner. Draw a line on the ceiling along the plinth, do the same with opposite side. Along the right line, a mark is placed on the left bar at the place where they intersect. On the right bar the mark runs where it intersects with the left line. Connect the line marks to the end bottom side baseboards. Now cut the plinth according to the markings.

Sample

You can make an imitation miter box on paper. On a piece of paper, draw two lines running parallel to each other. Using a protractor, connect them at an angle of 45 degrees, the line should go to the left. Step back 10 centimeters to the left and draw a line at an angle of 45 degrees, already going to the right. Now just instead of installing the panel into the cut, attach it to the lines on the paper and cut it.

If you have uneven corners at home, then this is also not a problem. Measure the angle and divide the resulting number by 2. This will be the desired degree for cutting. Then draw lines to simulate a miter box at the same angle.
If you can’t cut it correctly or don’t want to bother, then you can buy ready-made skirting board corners. They are inexpensive.

Ceiling plinth is used to hide irregularities that form at the border between the wall and the ceiling in order to give the interior aesthetic completeness.

How to glue a ceiling plinth, how to cut it using a miter box or in the absence of a device - such questions are asked by many beginners who prefer to do their own renovations in the apartment. This article is devoted to these issues.

Materials for skirting boards

Before cutting the ceiling plinth, it is worth getting acquainted with the materials for their manufacture, which differ in the density of the components used. This also determines the method of cutting elements.

Features of materials for ceiling plinths are presented in the table:

Skirting material Advantages Flaws

  • Fade resistant and high strength.
  • Flexibility.
  • Moisture resistance
  • Different sizes and patterns, allowing you to choose for any interior.
  • Can be painted.
  • Heavy weight.
  • Relatively high price.

  • Light weight.
  • Low cost.
  • Soft edges.
  • Varied design.
  • Easy to cut and install.
  • Fragile. Not for use on curved surfaces.
  • The grainy structure of the material and uneven edges require additional processing - trimming, painting.

  • Strength.
  • Smoothness.
  • Easy to install.
  • Low cost.
  • Large selection of sizes and designs.

Advice: When purchasing a polystyrene ceiling molding, you should give preference to denser materials made by extrusion.

  • Abundance of colors.
  • Low cost.
  • Resistance to moisture.
  • Ease of use.
  • Cannot be repainted.
  • Easily cracks.
  • The corners of the baguette are not rigid when joining, it is necessary to use an additional adhesive composition.

  • Ecological cleanliness.
  • Elite material. Serves for finishing rooms stylized as antique (see).
  • Hygroscopicity, which can lead to changes in the size and geometry of products due to moisture absorption.
  • Expensive.
  • It may rot.
  • Lit.
  • Difficult to adjust to the correct size.

Tip: When cutting any of these materials, you should use a fine-tooth hacksaw. Otherwise, you may end up with an uneven end of the part. The large tooth of the tool will begin to bite the material.

Before installing a baguette on the ceiling with your own hands, you need to determine how to cut it. The main difficulty is maintaining the required joining angle of the elements. Only in this case can a butt seam be obtained without a visible gap.

Tip: If gaps form after installing the baguettes, they need to be sealed with special glue, silicone or white sealant.

Tools for cutting skirting boards

A high-quality and correctly selected tool will allow you to perfectly join the plinth at all angles. For cutting baguette for the ceiling, use various instruments, which have their own characteristics of use.

These could be:

  • Miter box with hacksaw.

This is a special box with several holes. When performing the operation, a workpiece is inserted into the device, and then the baguette is cut with a hacksaw. The work is quite simple, but the edge of the part turns out to be quite rough, sometimes the product, especially made of foam, even deteriorates from the impact of an ordinary hacksaw.

Tip: After cutting plastic or wooden baguettes in a miter box, the cut areas should be treated with sandpaper or a file.

  • Electric miter saws.

With this tool, the cut is of the highest quality. When cutting electric tool The blade is lowered onto the baguette and the desired result is obtained.

  • Jigsaw.

This tool is very convenient for cutting plinths made of wood, as seen in the photo, plastic and other products at an angle. The peculiarity of cutting is the precise application of markings on the workpiece, and then the smooth lowering of the working saw onto the plinth.

An electric jigsaw makes cuts in different directions, at the desired angle. The advantage of the tool is the efficiency and accuracy of the work.

  • Construction sharp knife.

This tool makes it easy to cut foam products. After preliminary marking of the part, the plinth is carefully cut with a knife at the desired angle.

Despite the simplicity of cutting, in order not to spoil the brand new plinth, it is better to use scraps of material and determine the technology for performing the process until the desired result is obtained.

  • To take correct measurements, the plank is measured between two corners. In this case, for internal corners, the length is measured from the elements. And the distance from the external corners is measured from a point that is distant from the internal one.
  • When installing foam baseboards at the junction between the wall and suspended ceiling, glue is applied to the part of the product in contact with the surface.
  • The final fixation of the plinth is carried out after adjusting the angle of the adjacent plank to it.
  • If available at the wall, ceiling and floor right angle, it is easier to adjust the planks at the bottom by laying out the parts on the floor or on a prepared table.
  • Small cracks remaining in the corners are filled with putty.
  • Particular attention should be paid to the installation of ceiling plinths made of rare wood. IN in this case, puttying the gaps will most likely not give the expected result. A bright spot will appear against the texture background.
  • High-quality ceiling plinths, in addition to the main strips, have special inserts for right angles. Such inserts will significantly simplify installation and improve the quality of the work performed.

Features of cutting and joining baguette elements

Before starting work, you should watch the video.

Work instructions:

  • It is necessary to cut the baseboard from the front side and along the outer edges.
  • When cutting the inner corner, it is therefore necessary to process both sides of the baguette.
  • When performing work it is better to use miter saw, but at home you can get by with simple miter boxes.
  • For a foam baguette, its edges must be cut at an angle of 45°.
  • The cut on the right is made on the plinth glued to the left. And vice versa.
  • The bottom of the baguette should protrude above the top to obtain the optimal internal angle.

Cutting skirting boards using a miter box

A miter box is a device that can be made from:

  • Tree.
  • Aluminum.

By appearance This is a tray with grooves on the sides at different angles.

  • To cut a corner on a plinth, the element is mounted in the position in which it will be located on the plane of the ceiling.
  • The part should be placed correctly and pressed tightly to the base.
  • Carefully aligned to the plane on the ceiling.

Tip: The plinth should be tried dry before installation, and then marked with a pencil. This will prevent you from confusing the direction of the cut.

  • The desired groove is selected and made free hand, better with a hacksaw for metal, cutting the element along the groove.

  • For plinths made of hard material, it may be necessary to adjust the element with a file.
  • Do not use a lot of force when making the cut. Otherwise soft materials may become deformed and crumble.

Cutting skirting board corners without a miter box

You can cut the corners of the ceiling plinth without a miter box or make one yourself.

It's quite simple, using a few options:

  • Using available materials:
  1. a mold is made from three planks or thick plywood;
  2. cuts are made at an angle of 45° in the sides of the device. To mark, you need to use a protractor or square.

  • If there are no materials for manufacturing, or you need to cut a little, then:
  1. The paper is bent at the desired angle. It is placed on a block and a line is drawn along which the cut is made;
  2. the element is placed under the block and a cut is made according to the template.
  • The cutting angle of the ceiling plinth is determined and it is decided how best to cut the part. In this case:
  1. The plinth is placed at the installation site, and cutting line marks are made;
  2. the part is placed on a solid plane, in the position in which it will be installed. A vertical cut is made with a knife or hacksaw.

  • Using a hacksaw and a simple block:
  1. the plinth is applied to the place of fastening to the ceiling;
  2. a line is drawn on the ceiling and wall, which will be the basis for fixing the baguette;
  3. the plinth is applied to the connecting wall, and the same two lines are drawn;
  4. it turned out to be an intersection of two lines on the ceiling. One baguette is applied and a mark is placed at the intersection of the lines, which corresponds to the top point of the cut;
  5. the second part is applied to another wall. The same mark is placed;
  6. the plinth is placed on flat surface. A flat block is applied to the upper part, and the cut points are connected;
  7. A hacksaw or knife is used to cut the baseboard.

After this, you can begin fixing the baguette to the ceiling.

Non-standard angles

Everything is quite complicated here, a miter box is not useful, a hacksaw is optional. In houses and apartments with non-standard layout, firstly, the angles may not be 90° at all. And secondly, they can generally be rounded or have several intersecting edges.

The first, most “collective farm” option is to cut “by eye” at 45°. To do this, take a joining part, which is adjusted to the previous angle in fact.

You can try on the design by weight; this is a rather long and painstaking task. Maximum precision required!

When adjusting, constantly try on the resulting pairing in place. Only after several fittings can you achieve a good result, and then glue the plinth to the base. In short, you can’t do without experience.

It is much more correct to transfer the markings of the edges of adjacent skirting boards to the ceiling, as shown in the photo. This technique will allow you to get rid of guesswork when determining the corner cut points.

Advice! It is very important when cutting the plinth on the inside corner, tilt the blade of the cutting tool to the desired part, approximately 45 degrees. If this is not done, a huge hole will appear at the joint due to the concave shape of the part. If you are preparing an external corner, tilt the blade in the opposite direction.

It is necessary to use a very sharp tool so as not to “sweep” the edges. It is advisable not to use a cutting tool with jagged edges at all. That is, a saw will not work here.

In cases where the corners are very uneven or rounded, the joining can be made from several small elements. Feel free to cut the skirting boards into several parts, up to 4-5 pieces. Then, on each piece, cut both edges that meet at the desired angle. The next one is applied to each previous element, after which the joint is aligned.

Unfortunately, this method is not ideal, and no matter how hard you try, you may end up with a gap at the joint.

You can fix this in the following ways:

  • Take your time when gluing the cornices along straight sections. Take care of the corners first - in this case, you can trim them if necessary, or sand them until you get a good joint.
  • If you didn’t succeed in solving the pruning problem perfectly, simply fill the cracks with a compound, matching the material of the cornice, and then paint it.

Cutting ceiling plinth is not a complicated process at all. The main thing is to do everything carefully, following the rules for performing work. After this, all the butt seams of the ceiling moldings will be practically invisible, and the renovation of the apartment will bring pleasure to its owner.

When asked about what to cut plastic skirting boards You can answer quite concisely and unambiguously, pointing to a hacksaw for metal, but this will still not be entirely accurate information. After all, by and large, in this question there is a subtext that points to the full action, and not to the tool itself, so that without a full familiarization with the process, the purpose of a particular tool is difficult to understand. That's why I want to tell you about own experience, developed over years of practice, and in addition you can watch the video in this article.

Cutting corners of floor and ceiling skirting boards

In Russian, plinth means decorative strip, covering the junction of the wall and the floor (ceiling).
This name comes from the Greek πλίνθος and Latin plintus.

Tools and accessories

Let's start with the fact that cutting the plinth at an angle of 45⁰, 90⁰ and others can be done by anyone cutting tool, but here, as elsewhere, there are preferences:

  • the most convenient tool, which leaves behind the highest quality cut, can be called a hacksaw, and this applies not only to plastic fillets, but also to fillets;
  • due to the fact that the blade has fairly fine teeth, the cut is clear and, most importantly, accurate, which is important for joining profiles - the more precise its processing, the better the joint, since there will be no gaps there;

  • Of course, as we have already said, the instructions do not indicate a particular tool in mandatory so for plastic you can also use a construction knife;
  • there are options here, since these knives are similar in that they have a removable blade, but at the same time it can be different thicknesses and length (for wallpaper, as in top photo or for drywall);
  • but in these cases such a tool is only suitable for thin-walled profiles– polyurethane, for example, cannot be cut with it.

For precision in fitting joints, a miter box is often used for cutting skirting boards, which can be different:

  • the difference in the design of such a tool lies in the complete or incomplete presence of all grooves for corner cutting;
  • a tool with a full set has grooves at a slope of 45⁰, 60⁰, 67.5⁰ and 90⁰ (its price is not much more), while for a simplified tool everything comes down to 45⁰ and 90⁰;
  • In addition, a full-set miter box, as in the top photo, has grooves for cutting boards, that is, here you can easily cut a profile in the form of a flat strip.

What it looks like in practice - method one

So, cutting the corners of a ceiling plinth (or floor) first of all comes down to the right direction slope, since the joint can be internal or external, depending on the configuration of the angle. Let's figure this out using the image above - there, on the left and right, there are two opposite options - the redundant (deleted) parts of the profile are shown in red.

If we are decorating a ceiling, then the option on the left is suitable for the outer corner, and the one on the right is suitable for the inner corner. For floor decoration, everything will be identical, but exactly the opposite - there will be an internal corner on the left, and an external one on the right. Shown in the middle between the options correct position processed profile.

If you use a carpenter's miter box, then cutting corners should be done at the side of the tool closest to you!

Method two

But, as you have seen, the number of grooves for cutting corners is limited even in a miter box with a full set, which makes such a tool in some cases simply useless. The fact is that in houses you often have to deal with the fact that rooms do not have right angles, therefore, a slope of 45⁰ for joining will not suit you, since after such a connection there will be a gap.

But there is a way out, and it’s quite simple - you can mark the profiles with your own hands.

Let's look at how to fit a joint in the inner corner without using a miter box and to do this, install the profile close to the adjacent wall, and draw a line along the ceiling, as shown in the top photo. We perform exactly the same operation on the other side, resulting in two crossed control lines, where the intersection will be the starting point for the cut.

The lower point will correspond to the angle at which the two walls meet - the cut line is highlighted in red in the image.

If the corner is external, then the intersection of the marking lines will naturally be further, and for this you will need not to rest the profile against the adjacent wall, but to push it beyond it in order to extend the line. You will need to perform similar markup steps for floor plinth, only all this will look like a mirror image, on the contrary.

When cutting ceiling plinths (floor) without a miter box, manually, the hacksaw should be directed to the center of the corner, that is, its slope will be approximately 45⁰.

Method three

In the same way, with a slope, you need to cut the profile to build it up on straight sections of the ceiling or floor, and if you cut the bar at 90⁰ or even 45⁰ for this, a gap will be visible. Therefore, in such cases, you can use a miter box with grooves of 60⁰ and 67.5⁰, that is, the length of the cut should be at least twice as large as its cross-section.

This method minimizes the appearance of a gap at the connection as much as possible; in any case, it is almost invisible unless you look closely at this place.

But no matter how hard you try when marking and cutting skirting boards, the human factor can always come into play - even the best masters and an error of a fraction of a degree is possible, which will cause a small gap. If you are dealing with plastics, then in such cases this error can be very easily repaired with silicone, and for other materials - with wood putty or plaster, respectively. In some cases, even a coat of paint is enough to seal.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to say that the cutting tool itself will be of paramount importance, but how you do it, that is, how correctly you mark the cut and how accurately you adhere to the approximate lines. But if something remains unclear to you, ask your questions.

People often wonder: how to properly and accurately decorate a room with ceiling plinths?

This is especially true for those cases when the home owner prefers repairs done with his own hands.

To do this correctly, it is important to strictly follow existing recommendations and rules finishing works. And then the result will please you.

There are no difficulties in attaching the fillet (this is the name of this element): virtually all types of products are attached with reliable glue.

They lend themselves well to processing with a special fine-toothed hacksaw. You can also use a reliable metal blade. So how to cut the ceiling plinth correctly?

Ready-made factory corners

Note that each master has the opportunity not to pore over precise cutting and fitting of corners.

IN hardware store you can buy a factory one corner element, into which the prepared edges of the plinth are easily inserted.

It is enough to measure the required length of the workpiece and cut it at a right angle.

All defects and flaws will be hidden by this special element. But like this in a convenient way It’s not always possible to use it, because standard sizes Such factory corners may differ markedly from the size of the baseboard itself.

Such angles will stand out due to their disproportion, and it will not look very neat. But if the design of the room and the dimensions of the workpieces allow you to use this method, then you should not neglect it.

For those who have to use one of the methods for cutting ceiling plinths, the following tips will be useful.

Trimming fillets

Trimming using a miter box

How to evenly trim the corner of a ceiling plinth using it?

A miter box is a simple tool used by carpenters. With its help, you can cut any workpiece at the desired angle.

It is usually a wooden, metal or plastic tray on which special vertical slots are made for cutting at an angle of 45° and 90°.

There are complicated designs, which, in addition to the mentioned angles, also have a hole for making a 60-degree cut.

For professional work A special miter box is produced. His swivel mechanism allows you to fix the cutting blade in relation to the workpiece at any given angle.

Internal corner

The prepared one is applied to the ceiling, the required length is set aside.

Then this same bar is inserted into the miter box exactly as it will be located on the ceiling. It must be pressed against the far wall of the device. In this position, the plinth is held with your left hand.

The hacksaw blade should be in such a position that its angle is 45 degrees, and the handle is as close to the hand as possible. Trying to avoid pressing on the saw, we carefully cut the workpiece.

The position of the hacksaw is similar to the previous procedure - its handle approaches the hand at an angle of 45 degrees. The baseboard is cut.

Then the finished, already cut planks are joined - the accuracy of the fit is checked. It is believed that for better orientation, when making an internal corner, it is better to start cutting from the front part of the product. The cut locations usually have to be adjusted with a file.

External corner

The most correct thing to do, in order to keep the dimensions more accurately, is to first start marking the inner corner, and only after that move on to the outer one.

Otherwise, it may happen that the entire length of the bar is not enough.

The plank is applied to the ceiling, and marks are made according to the size. Holding with your left hand, the ceiling plinth is pressed against the nearest wall, the handle of the hacksaw moves closer to your hand. The workpiece is cut.

The strike plate is pressed against the nearest wall, while it holds right hand. The hacksaw blade should be at an angle of 45°, the handle of the tool should be close to the hand of the master. A piece of the workpiece is cut off, the corner is neatly joined.

This type of edge processing of parts using wort is good in cases where the angle between the walls is even and straight (90°).

If its performance leaves much to be desired, then it is worth using a different method.

How to cut a ceiling plinth without a miter box?

Markings on the ceiling

The method with markings on the ceiling allows you to cut the corner accurately and evenly. It has one drawback - it is quite inconvenient to hold the bar suspended while performing the procedure.

In all other respects, using this method you will be able to mark the angle for cutting even more accurately than others.

When the plinth is applied to the intended installation location, all dimensional deviations and inaccuracies are noticeable and immediately taken into account.

Corner cutting

First you need to take a couple of blanks, then cut them at a right angle. Pressing the end of the plank towards perpendicular to the wall, apply one bar. We draw a line on the ceiling along the contour of the plinth. We remove the first plank, then, in the same way, resting the end against the wall, we apply a counter plank. We mark a line along the contour in the same way.

The point where the two separate lines intersect is the mark at which the workpiece is cut. Each strip is applied to the surface again, and the point of the future cut is marked on both. From the found point to the other edge of the plinth strip, draw a line. We cut the skirting boards according to the previously made outlines, carefully join them, and place them in the place where they will be installed.

This method allows you to more accurately process internal corners.

How to make a miter box template with your own hands

If you don't have a miter box, you don't have to buy a tool for one-time use. You can make a template with similar functions yourself.

To do this, apply to wood, paper or cardboard required angles cut.

Then you need to draw a pair of parallel lines, find the center, and then use a protractor to measure angles of any given size.

This method is especially convenient because, using it, you can set an angle of any size, even larger than a straight line.

Method of processing plinth blanks using homemade instrument practically no different from working with the original. The plank is pressed against one of the parallels, after which the hacksaw is set at the required angle and cut off.

Remember that before cutting the corners of the workpiece, be sure to check the size of the angle between the walls! To do this, use a protractor and a corner.

How to cut ceiling plinth correctly. Important little things

The measurements required to cut the plinth for the ceiling should be made in a special way.
To determine and mark an internal corner, the length must be measured from the corner itself. To mark external corner It is necessary to take into account that the plinth will protrude into the interior of the room at a distance equal to its width.

It is not advisable to fasten the skirting boards until their exact location has been measured and the counter plinth has been cut.

Only after the perfect convergence of both strikers in the corner can you begin their installation and fastening. If work is carried out with polyurethane or wooden skirting boards, defects and flaws can be corrected with a nail file or file. To customize a product from
