Performing work on the manufacture of the table

The frame can be made from a metal profile of various sections available. The geometric dimensions of the frame depend on the available area where the equipment will be mounted, the dimensions of the miter saw and the type of installation (stationary or portable).

On the frame, it is necessary to provide for the installation site of the saw, which must correspond to the available one (geometric dimensions, the height of the lower mark of a possible cut, the possibility of changing the spatial arrangement).

Regardless of the size and shape of the frame, it is necessary to provide side extensions of the table, which can be made of durable plastic, sheet metal or plywood. The presence of lateral extensions of the working surface will facilitate sawing of workpieces long size. If the side extensions are located below the level of the surface of the miter saw, then it is necessary to provide for the installation of special shelves along which the workpieces will move.

Will be useful and side stops, thanks to which, after fixing them, you can trim a large number of blanks according to fixed size. Corners can be used as stops different kind metal, equipped clamping elements, through which the stops are fixed on the working surface, as well as other elements (lugs, bars, etc.) made of wood or plastic that can be fixed on the working surface of the table.

For the convenience of working with large quantity blanks, it is necessary to make pressure plates. For this you can use sheet metal or a metal profile, which must be equipped with devices that allow them to be rigidly fixed on the desktop. This can be a bolted or other connection, with one of the plates placed under the surface of the table (lateral expansion), and the second above the surface of the workpieces. Compression is carried out by tightening a bolted or screwed connection using nuts or shanks.

  1. Mounting a miter saw.
    When the work on the manufacture of the frame and additional elements completed, it is necessary to install the frame on the prepared surface and firmly fix it there. After that, install the miter saw and manufactured additional elements.
  2. Functionality check.
    After completing the installation of the saw and other elements that facilitate work on this view cutting tool, you need to check its performance.

If to check the saw it is enough just to turn it on electrical network, then to check the convenience of performing work on the manufactured table, it is necessary to perform certain work, the trimming of prepared blanks. In doing so, you need to check that:

  • The geometric dimensions of the table allow you to perform all types of operations that are supposed to be performed on this equipment;
  • The table and the miter saw are rigidly fixed to the floor surface or other plane;
  • The size of the extensions corresponds to the size of the workpieces, they are easy to move and fix;
  • Setting stops and pressure plates is not hindered by any irregularities on the working surface of the table and frame elements.

The support table for the miter saw is a design element that allows you to work with high labor productivity, ensuring the safe execution of operations for processing various types of materials.

A tool designed to cut all kinds of materials and surfaces at a certain angle is called a miter saw. It is used in the processing of wood, tiles, plastic, as well as metal and many other building products.

When working with such a heavy tool, construction tasks can be greatly facilitated by using a special table for a miter saw. In production, you simply cannot do without it, but at home, for example, in a garage or workshop, you can make such a table with my own hands if you use blueprints. This tool will serve as the basis for placing the saw and will facilitate the processing and cutting of materials.

Description of the manufactured product

The trimming table is a horizontal base, on the surface of which the cutting element is placed and fixed. This design is usually made of a metal profile, durable plastic and strong wooden planks. Together, these materials provide a strong, stable position for the cutting element and ease of use of the saw, especially when processing long materials.

Based on the length of the pipes or boards that you plan to cut, the table must be made to a certain size. Therefore, for a comfortable cut, such a tool is often made sliding, however, you can stop at a permanent model.

The table can be stationary or, when installing additional wheels, portable, but in any case, the surface must stand firmly on the floor and not move during the processing of products.

Preparing to make a table

Various types of such tables can be found in construction stores, from the cheapest to the largest professional, however, there are situations when it is not possible to purchase this product. It is in such cases that one should make homemade workbench for such a tool.

First of all, in the process of making a table, you need to consider several important points:

  • choice of convenient free space to set up the table;
  • obligatory installation of fasteners for stationary placement of the tool;
  • dimensions of processed materials for their successful placement;
  • type and dimensions of the miter saw itself, which will be installed on the table.

The next step will be the analysis and implementation of the above points, since the successful manufacture of the table directly depends on this. After studying the instructions for assembling the table, preparing the drawings, as well as the necessary building materials you can safely begin the main part of the whole work.

We assemble the table with our own hands

The assembly of a tool can be conditionally divided into work with several of its parts. Its main components include the frame, side extensions, side stops, pressure plates and the base-platform for the saw.

Let's look at each part in order of importance.

frame

The frame of the product is best made from a metal profile (aluminum or steel), and its cross section is usually chosen from the existing assortment in the store. The dimensions of the frame, as fundamental for the table, are determined by the free space around, the dimensions of the cutting element and the type of product (non-movable or mobile).

In accordance with the dimensions of the saw you are considering, the level of the bottom line of the potential cut and the possibility of changing the position of the saw on the frame are set aside in the frame design.

Side extensions

In the course of interaction with especially dimensional materials in the table, the installation of side extensions made of metal, a durable plastic sheet or wood is provided. At the end of the treatment, thanks to their design, they are lowered to the sides of the machine.

You can make a model not with retractable, but retractable extensions, for example, on a shelf inside the table.

Side stops

To facilitate the milling process, parallel side stops are fixed on a homemade table.

Often they are made of boards and plastic, but we recommend using them as stops. metal corners with clamping elements.

With their help, the corners are fixed on the working trimming table.

Pressure plates

A metal profile is chosen as the pressure plates on the table and equipped with a device for rigid fixation with the surface. The plates are installed as follows: one element is placed under working surface, and the second - above it. Next dragged on bolted connection, tightly compressing the materials together.

Saw assembly

After Assembly metal frame and assembling the extensions, stops and pressure plates, you can proceed to the final stage. Installation of a miter saw consists in placing it on a platform base and fastening the parts with screws.

Reliability check

The final step is to check the integrity and overall reliability of the trimming table.

Make sure that the bed is stationary, the roller stand, if any, and any other rotary mechanism work correctly, and the saw, when connected to the network, does not have difficulty in sawing.

The overall reliability of the table is evaluated by a trial run.

Additional safety precautions

Pay attention to the following points.

  • When making a table with your own hands, choose only high-quality materials.
  • Keeping the workplace and the space around you in order reduces the possibility of injury of various kinds.
  • It is necessary to periodically check the table for imbalance and its elimination. It is also important to check the fixation of the saw before starting work.
  • Do not place your hands close to the cutting blade while processing workpieces.
  • Wear safety goggles to avoid getting chips in your eyes.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The base and side extensions are easy to fit to any miter saw or slotter. If you have both of these machines, you can make one pair of extensions to use with each machine.

Ideal for saving space in small workshops, the base and extensions are quickly fixed to the workbench and are easily removed when there is no work for them.

One sliding fence for each machine can be installed on the left or right. The distance from the stop to the center of the machine can be changed from 915 to 1525 mm.

Measure the width and depth of the base of your miter saw or slotter. If the machine table protrudes beyond the dimensions of the bed, measure the width of the table. Add 38mm to the depth and 178mm to the width to determine the width and length of platform base A, as shown in the figure. Then cut the bottom piece out of 19mm MDF, plywood, or plastic-coated chipboard to these dimensions.

Measure the height of the machine table and reduce this measurement by 19 mm to determine the width of the posts B. Cut two posts of this width and a length equal to the width of the base A. Press the posts with clamps to the base, drill and countersink pilot holes through the base, then fasten the parts with screws. To use one pair of extensions for both machines, measure the height of each table. Reduce largest size 19 mm and saw the posts of this width for both platform bases.

Cut the two bottom pieces C out of 19mm material to the dimensions shown in the picture. (If necessary, you can change the length of the extensions depending on your needs and available space.) To hang the extensions on the wall (when not in use), drill a 25mm hole in both pieces. Then saw out six D posts 152 mm long and the same width as platform B legs. Additionally saw out two clamping plates F of the same dimensions and set them aside. (These will be attached to the extensions in step 4.) Now clamp the uprights to the bottom pieces with clamps, centering the middle uprights, drill pilot holes and screw in the screws.

Lay the platform base on the workbench and place your machine on top, centering it. Place one of the extensions close to the platform as shown in the picture. Measure the distance from outside far D-pillar to the edge of the machine table. You-

cut the two upper shelves E of this length and width of 152 mm. To use extensions with both machines, measure the distance from the far post to the edge of the table for each machine and cut the shelves to match the smaller size.

Now, on a saw machine with a 19 mm thick slotted disc, cut out a 10 mm deep tongue in the center of each shelf. Clamp the shelves to the C/D extensions, drill holes, countersink them and fix the shelves to the uprights with screws.

Place the extensions C/D/E close to the platform base A/B, aligning at the front. Take the clamp plates F cut earlier and fit them to the inside of the platform posts B, aligning with the front edge as shown. Now compress pairs of adjacent posts B, D and clamping plates with clamps, drill holes through the upper shelves E, countersink them and fix the plates with screws.

Determine the width of the sliding fence G for the miter saw by measuring the distance from the front edge of one of the extensions to the front of the fence on the machine table. The width of the sliding stop H for a slotting machine is determined by the distance from the front edge of the extension to the center of the bit. Measure the distance from the center of the table to inside the D-pillar closest to the platform base to determine the length of the movable stops. Having found out the dimensions, cut out the fly from 19 mm material.

Then, using a slotted saw, select 3 mm deep tongues on both sides of each part at a distance of 60 mm from the front edge and make 3 × 3 mm dustproof folds at the top and bottom along each end. Now saw out of hardwood and cut two guide rails I with dimensions 11x19x305 mm.

Measure the distance from the protruding end top shelf E to the inner side of the D-pillar closest to the platform base, and file the guide rails to that length. Glue them into the tongues of the sliding stops, aligning the ends with the shoulders of the dustproof folds, as shown in the figure. Note. For a slotter with a front workpiece clamp, it may be necessary to make a cutout on the sliding fence to allow the fence to be moved to the center of the table.
