How to glue foam to a brick wall. What can be used to glue polystyrene - the main types of means for fixing. Gluing polystyrene foam with liquid nails

Extruded polystyrene foam on - the material is extremely useful and easy to use. It is used as a heater, a decorative element ( ceiling tiles, stucco, etc.) and many other similar areas.

In construction, extruded polystyrene foam or foam plastic has gained its popularity due to unique characteristics and extreme unpretentiousness.

However, it is also important to understand how with the material this type work. You may need to use a special glue for extruded polystyrene foam. It will now be discussed in this article.

1 Installation features

Penoplex itself is extruded polystyrene foam. That is, in many ways it repeats the properties of expanded polystyrene as a heater. But its structure is already different, since, being extruded, it is melted down in special furnaces.

At the exit, standard polystyrene foam raw materials do not stick together strongly, forming a dense, reliable structured plate. It does not contain individual balls, as is observed in regular foam. On the contrary, the entire plate consists of a uniform foamed polymer material.

a significant share in total mass foam boards are occupied by air. Extruded polystyrene foam consists of a polymer and air balls with a diameter of up to 1 mm.

An important nuance here is that polystyrene foam acts as a heater. It is also often used to create ceiling tiles, decorative elements and other similar tasks, that is, to form appearance or structural insulation.

And this means that for decorative plate, both in the form of insulation, and for ceiling or any other decorative finishes, should be specially glued to the structure. And stick well.

And this is where the main problem lies. Penoplex, as we have already noticed, is very dense and uniform. Its face is too smooth to adhere well to other constructions or adhesives.

The relatively low adhesion rate is the main problem in working with extruded polystyrene foam.

And it just needs to be corrected. After all, it is necessary to glue penoplex in any case and glue it so that there are no more doubts about the strength of the entire structure.

You don’t want the whole structure of insulation, finishing layer and frame to fall apart, do you?

2 Selecting the right adhesive

Adhesive for extruded polystyrene foam is produced in different configurations. Each specific type of it is suitable for performing certain jobs. For installation on concrete, the same compositions are used, for fastening in winter time years on the same concrete brick - others.

Even more exotic substances are used when it is necessary to combine properties and insulation. For example, the same hot glue is a kind of universal composition, which also has low thermal conductivity.

That is, Hot glue is able not only to glue foam, but also to improve the overall thermal insulation of the house.

What is very important, the adhesive mixture or adhesive for fixing polystyrene boards cannot contain solvents, acetone, alcohol substitutes, etc. Such materials destroy the very body of foam as a heater. They eat it up, and very quickly.

This, by the way, is another reason to use specialized mixtures such as Hot glue, Tytan Styro 753, Ceresit C-84 and others. Unlike artisanal solutions, manufacturers of such materials know exactly what they are dealing with, which means that the risk of damaging the insulation material is reduced to zero.

The adhesive mixture for penoplex can be produced in various variations, however, all of them are somehow divided into three subspecies. Most often for work on insulation is used:

  • bituminous glue.
  • Polymer-cement adhesive.
  • Polyurethane adhesive for .

Now we will analyze each of these subspecies separately.

2.1 Bituminous adhesive

It should be understood that in itself mounting adhesive based on bitumen - it is rather a plaster-glue mixture. But bitumen is also added to its composition as the main binder.

The beauty of bitumen is its reliability and the ability to combine perfectly with the expanded polystyrene itself. Bitumen is well attached to the plates and keeps them for a long time.

He also has excellent waterproofing qualities. Such a mixture can not only adhere well to the thermal insulation of extruded polystyrene foam to concrete or metal, but also can protect the joints of the external walls with each other using reflective hydrophobic properties.

Another big plus that the bituminous plaster-adhesive mixture has is the ability to knead it in a matter of minutes. That is, you will not need to use a special tool. The same hot glue is not kneaded using a conventional mixer and water.

2.2 polymer cement adhesive

Another type of composition that can be used to glue polystyrene foam. Unlike a bituminous sample, polymer-cement adhesive has much higher adhesive properties.

With it, you can glue together any materials. Moreover, to glue for a long time, and without the use of any additional funds. Adding polymers to the solution makes it more durable. After drying, it forms a dense crust.

The assembly polymer-cement composition is ideally combined with reinforcement and exterior finish polystyrene foam.

It is also often used when it is necessary to glue ceiling tiles. For ceiling tiles, adhesion is necessary in the first place, since on ceiling structure most of all the rest is affected by the load from its own weight.

In addition, penoplex on the ceilings, as a rule, is glued to concrete. And he, as you probably already know, has poor adhesion with solutions.

If you are going to glue any materials to concrete, then you can only do this using reliable composition for plaster or insulation works.

2.3 Polyurethane adhesive

Polyurethane adhesive for polystyrene foam is used for the same work, but it has a completely different structure and even its purpose is different.

If the standard adhesive is still the same mounting solution for conventional plastering works(for example, a mixture of Hot glue), then polyurethane samples look like foam.

They are sold in cans, and the plates can be glued with their help only using mounting gun.

The composition is already ready for application and, in fact, is not much different from the same foam. It is slightly thicker, has a different color, but otherwise completely repeats its properties.

In order to glue the slab to the base or glue them together, you will have to load the spray can into the gun and apply glue to the slab.

3 Using Styrofoam Glue (video)

Very often, polystyrene foam is used as a heater in the form of plates that are glued to the walls. The material varies in density and some specimens can be fixed exclusively with a cement-based compound, others only bituminous mastic or special foam. Therefore, choosing an adhesive for extruded polystyrene foam is not an easy task.

Kinds

Compositions intended for polystyrene foam insulation, as a rule, contain many components. To fix such a material, glue containing gasoline or acetone should not be used, since these substances dissolve the thermal insulation itself.

Adhesives there are:

  1. Universal are suitable for almost any heat-insulating material.
  2. Specialized ones are used specifically for polystyrene foam insulation.

How to choose

When planning to make a purchase, you need to consider several particularly significant factors:

  • where it is planned to use the composition - indoors or when insulating the facade of the building;
  • principles of working with glue;
  • compound;
  • characteristics;
  • price.

Bituminous

Similar products are produced on the basis of bitumen (an asphalt-like substance) with the addition of a solvent and plasticizers. The main advantage of bituminous adhesive is to improve the waterproofing properties of the base. The composition allows you to fix the plates of heat-insulating material, as well as glue the expanded polystyrene together. The name, as a rule, contains "bitumen", for example, "Bitumast", "Kerabit".

High quality insulation bonding provides:

  • preliminary drying of the base and sanding;
  • applying a primer to the wall, due to which unnecessary pores are closed.

Advice! It is better to prefer a primer that contains an antiseptic and fungicides. This will prevent the development of mold and fungus under the slabs of thermal insulation material.

The glue is spread with a comb spatula in a continuous, thin layer. Within 20 minutes after joining the wall surface and the insulation, additional pressure will be required, for example, using spacers.

Adhesive foam

The peculiarity of polyurethane foam is a very fast setting, which occurs within ten minutes. One can of glue-foam is enough to cover an area of 10 m 2 with a heater, which is equivalent to 25 kg of an ordinary mixture.

Popular members of this group:

  • "Technonikol";

The foam must be applied to the thermal insulation, departing from the edges by approximately 10 cm, as well as diagonally across the slab. After that, the insulation must be placed on the wall. The same foam or sealant for joints is laid in the gaps remaining between the plates.

High-quality gluing of the material can be achieved if the surface is carefully prepared for applying the composition.

Cement-polymer

Glue designed for fixing heat-insulating materials on concrete, wood or brick surfaces. The product contains a plasticizer and Portland cement, as well as additional components. Before applying the adhesive, surface treatment with a deep penetration primer is required.

Provides secure fastening insulation on the facade of the building, is resistant to low temperatures and moisture.

It is used when working indoors, as well as when installing a covering layer of thermal insulation.

"Master Super" is used when fixing insulation on load-bearing walls.

Advice! If an adhesive mixture is used, then it must be used up within 60 minutes after mixing, as it will later become unusable.

Instructions for use

Before you start gluing extruded polystyrene foam, you must carefully prepare the surface of the wall by removing old peeling plaster, paint residues, as well as dust, stains, dirt from it.

How to stick:

  1. Before starting the installation of thermal insulation on the wall, a starting bar should be installed, which will hold the first rows of plates.
  2. It is also necessary to first prepare supports or other material to create additional pressure on the polystyrene foam after installation - if bituminous glue is selected.
  3. Apply a primer to the surface, which will help increase its adhesion to the adhesive.
  4. It is recommended, especially with little experience in this kind of work, to make a markup along which parts of the insulation will be laid out.
  5. Using a notched trowel, apply the compound to the entire surface of the Styrofoam board if the wall is level, clean and without protrusions. In other cases, it is possible to apply glue dotted in the corners and in the center or in spots, but it is necessary to ensure that more than 50% of the surface of the heat-insulating material is covered with glue.
  6. Adhesive foam is applied along the perimeter, with an indent of 10 cm from the edge, and crosswise along the diagonals.
  7. Plates evenly fix on the wall, simulating brickwork. To do this, cut the first plate of the second row in half. Suitable as a tool sharp knife, for example, painting, hand saw, also a good way - with a soldering iron and a long thin sting, which can be made from thick wire.
  8. The joints of the thermal insulation material must match. In the case of working with glue-foam, the joints are filled additionally. Qualitatively attached insulation will provide an even layer of plaster in the future.
  9. If there are still gaps between the plates, then you can get rid of them with the help of construction foam or liquid foam.
  10. After the adhesive has dried, fix additionally thermal insulation material with dowels.
  11. Extruded polystyrene foam is sensitive to impact ultraviolet rays, for this reason, additional surface plastering is necessary after insulation work.

Important! Expanded polystyrene is a flammable material that can ignite from an open source of fire, so it should be handled with care.

  1. Do not buy cheap glue from a dubious manufacturer.
  2. Pay attention to quality certificates.
  3. The glue sold by the promotion may be expired - be sure to check the numbers on the package.
  4. The mixture should be stored in a dry place in pallets and sealed. If the storage conditions have been violated, the technological properties of the product will suffer. Soaked in moisture, it will become unusable.
  5. Do not dilute the hardened mixture with water, as this will cause cracking of the surface subsequently and loss of product properties. Unusable mass must be discarded.
  6. During fixing indoors, it is required to ensure air circulation.
  7. Before installing the heater on metal surfaces it is recommended to paste over them with burlap. This will facilitate the fastening of the plates and improve the quality of the connection.

It is better to carry out insulation of the house in the warm months of the year, when the weather is good outside, since it is difficult to work in rain and wind.

The second name of polystyrene is expanded polystyrene. This is soft material, which consists of a plastic air mass. Its structure is cellular and has White color. The cells are reliably separated from each other, so the material has good thermal insulation properties.

Styrofoam features:

Kinds:

  1. Polystyrene. It consists of white granules, which are obtained by heat treatment of polystyrene. During this treatment, a blowing agent is used. The size of the granules is from 7 to 17 mm. The structure of the granules consists of closed cells that are 98% filled with gas.
  2. Polyurethane. This material is obtained by combining diisocyanates and polyesters. These substances are combined with pressure. The structure is not the same - the cells have different forms and sizes. The cells are very closely adjacent to each other and due to this the density of the material is very high. The foam of this type has high strength and durability.
  3. Polyethylene. This material is flexible and elastic. Polyethylene has a small thickness - only 5 cm. This type of foam is used for packaging products.

Application area

Polyfoam is used in various spheres of life. It is made from a large number of materials and products. Also, the material retains heat well, so it is often used for wall insulation.

Areas of application of expanded polystyrene:

  1. Construction works. In construction, it is used for thermal insulation of structures, houses, buildings, garages, hangars. It is also used for outdoor insulation.
  2. In shipbuilding. Life belts, lifeboats, light boats are made from it. Also used to fill the compartments of small boats.
  3. In medicine. In this area, foam containers are used to transport organs and medicines.
  4. In furniture production. It is added to the composition of the material, from which various pieces of furniture are then made.
  5. For the manufacture of packaging materials. They are added to the composition of various packages, packages, wrappers and so on.
  6. For the production of outdoor advertising. It is added to the composition of advertising structures - banners, signs.
  7. in the production of clothing. It is added to the composition of many fabrics. Styrofoam content is very warm.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of foam:

  1. Natural and environmentally friendly material. Expanded polystyrene does not emit toxic and harmful substances, therefore, it is safe for the human body;
  2. Long service life. The structure does not lend itself to mold, fungi, it is not affected by moisture and various microorganisms.
  3. It resists fire well and withstands high temperatures. The spontaneous ignition temperature is +491 degrees and it is 2 times higher than wood and 2.2 times higher than paper. It also does not support combustion well, if the source of ignition is removed in time, it immediately goes out.
  4. Little weight. Due to its low weight, it is easy to install and does not put additional stress on the base.
  5. Inertia. Does not interact with other materials. Good resistance to various chemical substances. Therefore, it can be lowered into soapy water. Also does not interact with bleaching agents and acids, except for nitric and acetic.
  6. Low cost. This material is very cheap and can be purchased at any hardware store.

Foam Disadvantages:

  1. Easily damaged and broken. Therefore, it needs additional protection.
  2. It quickly collapses under the influence of nitro enamels and solvents. As a result, it cannot be dyed.
  3. Doesn't let air through. Therefore, rooms insulated with polystyrene foam must be ventilated frequently.
  4. Very often, rodents damage the foam, gnaw holes in it and arrange their nests.

How to glue foam to foam

Styrofoam is glued together with various mixtures and adhesives. During gluing, it is important to consider the type of material, its structure. When choosing mixtures for gluing this material, you should pay attention to their properties and composition. You should also take into account the composition of the adhesive, for this material you should choose products that do not include various solvents.

Types of glue:

  1. Glue for foam. This type of glue is cheap and easy to use. The adhesive has good bonding properties. Currently, there are many brands of this glue.
  2. Front glue. This adhesive is designed to bond foam to foam, to concrete, to plastic, to wood, to metal, and so on. The shelf life of this glue is also average, about six months from the date of issue.
  3. Mounting foam. The foam has a very good properties and adheres well to polyurethane. With the help of foam, the material will stick firmly and forever. It should be borne in mind that during gluing the foam dries quickly, and this can lead to unpleasant consequences. The tube through which the foam is squeezed out can become clogged, so it is best to clean it with a special solvent.
  4. Polyurethane adhesive. This adhesive has good bonding properties. The only drawback is that it is sold in the form of cylinders and you need to buy a special gun for it.
  5. Liquid Nails. Liquid nails adhere very well to this material, but are not always reliable. Therefore, with this mixture you need to use a simple glue. Approximately 50-70% of the surface is treated with glue, and the rest liquid nails.
  6. Dry mixes. Mixtures are very cheap and have good properties. Mixtures are diluted with water. Be sure to pay attention to the packaging before buying this product, it should be marked that it is suitable for foam.
  7. This glue comes in the form of aerosol cans, so they are easy to work with. Glue just needs to be sprayed onto the surface of the material. Freezes within 30 minutes. However, one cylinder is designed for only 10 square meters.

glue cost

The cost of adhesive mixtures is different, the price depends on the properties of the mixture - on the hardening time, on the level of bonding, on the method of application.

Average cost of some mixes:

Polyurethane foam Ceresit- the cost of 750 ml is 650 rubles.

Polyurethane Adhesive Tytanaverage price 750 ml is 400 rubles.

Facade adhesive T-AVANGARD-K- this glue is sold in packages of 25 kg, the cost of the package is 280 rubles.

Dry mix Ceresit- the cost of a package with a volume of 25 kg is from 400 to 600 rubles.

Liquid Nails- the price of 300 ml is about 200 rubles.

Dry glue moment- the cost of a bag with a volume of 25 kg is 300 rubles.

- the average price of 500 ml is 900-1200 rubles.

How to prepare the surface

Before gluing the material, you need to prepare the surface well for gluing. It is on this that further bonding and fixation time will depend.

Surface preparation consists of the following steps:

  1. Cleaning from dirt, dust and various substances.
  2. Surface leveling. If there are irregularities or defects on the surface, then they must be removed. special tools. If there are defects, the bond will be low;

How to glue

Styrofoam is very fragile, so it must be glued very carefully.

For gluing it together, it is desirable to use mixtures that are designed for this material. Gluing is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. Glue must be applied to the sheet. It is applied in stripes or dots at the four corners. The adhesive must cover the entire surface. It is desirable that no extra spaces are formed during gluing. If the foam is glued with mounting foam, it must be taken into account that the foam expands when it dries, and spaces between the sheets may form. Therefore, during gluing with this agent, a reinforcing mesh is inserted between the sheets.
  2. Sheets need to be pressed together. In order for the glue to grab well, pressure must be applied to the sheets. For pressure, it is advisable to use a small load or just squeeze with your hands and support for a while, 15 minutes will be enough.

Conclusion

Styrofoam is a material that has a number of advantages - warm, plastic, fire resistant, non-toxic. Thanks to this, it can be used in various spheres of life. It is very easy to glue and suitable for almost all adhesive mixtures. In addition, it is very light, and does not cause great difficulties in operation and installation.

Styrofoam is used as a heater, as it thermal insulation properties higher than natural materials, and the cold buildings in which it is applied are mostly made of concrete. Often, expanded polystyrene needs to be attached to surfaces where it is impractical to assemble a rigid crate (walls, ceiling, facades). In such situations, the attachment of sheets of material is carried out in a variety of ways and adhesives. The right technological solutions make the job easier. So, how to glue foam to concrete?

Fastening foam to concrete with glue

It is optimal to use special glue in the form of a powder with foam. Adhesive compositions can also be used for ceramic tiles, facades (frost-resistant). Their basis is cement with the addition of binding polymers. Glue must be diluted before use warm water. Such compounds reliably adhere to concrete, are moisture resistant, do not react to temperature changes, and serve for a long time.

Restriction - adhesives are used at positive air temperatures. Mixing is best done with a drill with a nozzle so that clumping does not occur. After settling for 5 hours, the mixture is stirred again. Then in 2 hours the glue must be used. The fixing mixture is applied to the insulation material. The slab should be glued by pressing it to the surface and holding it in this position for several minutes.

The formation of an air "plug" under it should be excluded. After installing the plate in the interval of 2 - 3 minutes, it is possible to correct its position on the surface. The period of final hardening is 3 days. The method of applying the adhesive depends on the height of the irregularities on the surface. When they are within 50 mm, the composition is applied in wide dashed stripes (passes for air to escape).

If the deformation differences are up to 15 mm, the substance is laid in intermittent strips with a protective indent of 20 mm from the edges of the slab. A little glue is applied to the middle of the square. When the concrete surface is almost flat (about 3 mm difference in height), a notched trowel is used to lay the adhesive on it so as to cover it all. The excess squeezed out from under the plates is removed with a moistened cloth. Adhesive compositions can be in ready-to-use form.

Bituminous glue has hydrophobic properties, frost-resistant, combustible. Needs heating up to 20 degrees at an air temperature of about 0 degrees. Applied with a notched trowel, provides adhesion after 20 minutes. Bitumen-latex emulsion mastic does not heat up before application, is resistant to low temperatures, can be laid on wet surface concrete. from 3 hours to one day.

Another alternative is a rubber-based adhesive dense liquid (dimethylpolysiloxane), which vulcanizes in air in a day to form strong bonds. The temperature range of its vulcanization is from minus 60 to plus 300 degrees.

Use of dowels

Foam fixing with dowels.

A simple, inexpensive, fast and durable glueless method of fastening polystyrene foam, however, requiring the use of a perforator and required amount umbrella dowels. Their length is chosen sufficient for reliable fastening of the plates to the concrete base (taking into account the thickness of the sheets). On the purified flat surface the lower starting level is set, from which the installation begins.

Each sheet is fastened with three dowels: one in the middle and two in the corners, so that their “umbrellas” press the corners of adjacent plates. A gap of 3 mm is formed between the sheets - a deformation-temperature joint, which excludes mutual deformation of the plates during daily and seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. Sealant is placed in the seams.

Another alternative way glue polystyrene sheets. Suitable only for flat concrete surfaces. The offer of liquid nails is extensive, so it is advisable to familiarize yourself with their purpose, conditions of use and operation indicated on the packaging. Compositions are created for various pairs of glued materials, including for a pair of polystyrene foam - concrete. This product is a polymeric paste-like composition, to which components are added that improve adhesive properties.

Fastening with liquid nails.

Due to this, liquid nails are stronger than powder adhesives, they harden even when high humidity. However, there is a significant disadvantage - the compounds are poisonous, so you should work with gloves. Such adhesives are packaged in oblong tubes that are inserted into. The benefits of their use include:

  • the highest strength of the connection of materials;
  • heat resistance;
  • small technological expense;
  • complete hardening of the joint during the day;
  • frost resistance;
  • efficiency and ease of installation;
  • no odors and short setting time (20 to 40 minutes).

The latter increases the complexity of the work when the plates are to be mounted on the ceiling (equipment, patience and skills are required). The composition will firmly adhere polystyrene foam when the concrete surface is leveled, cleaned and dried. The substance squeezed out of the tube is located on the foam plastic in a small volume at several points, and not on the entire area of the sheet, as, for example, in the case of applying mounting foam. The plates should be glued, providing pressure over the entire surface for a sufficiently long time so that the liquid nails seize. Then the seams between the sheets are treated with mounting foam (sealant).

Bonding with foam

Foam-glue for polyfoam.

Expanded polystyrene can be glued to a flat concrete surface with a special adhesive-foam. This takes a little time. This method is relatively inexpensive. However, the material can also be glued to a conventional mounting foam. However, this will increase the time of work, since it will be necessary to press the plates to the surface with effort for a long time.

If this is not done, due to the increase in the volume of the foam, the sheets will swell and rise above the surface, and the seams will disperse. Before using foam adhesive, make sure that the contents of the tube are intended for foam plastic (and not for foam concrete) and find out the conditions of use. The use of special foam is possible even without priming, it is enough to clean the concrete surface from dirt and moisten it for better adhesion.

The advantages of such a composition are:

  • acceptable adhesion;
  • possibility of gluing boards low temperatures inside and outside buildings;
  • lack of odors;
  • moisture resistance;
  • the ability to take long breaks in the installation;
  • frost resistance;
  • no shrinkage;
  • biological stability;
  • safety (fire, chemical);
  • ease of use.

The disadvantages of this substance are that the foam needs protection from UV rays, it requires flushing the mounting “gun” during long breaks in work, and also that the adhesion force (holding capacity) with smooth concrete surfaces is weakened.

You should also be careful not to get the composition on the mucous membrane of the eye. Special foam is filled into standard cylinders filled with polyurethane composition. Before use, it is installed in a mounting "gun", which regulates the release of the substance. The bottle is shaken beforehand, it can be warmed up in warm water. The temperature of the cylinder application is approximately plus 20 degrees.

Foam can be placed on concrete or foam, covering at least 40% of the area under the sheet. The drawings of its application are stripes along the perimeter of the plates or in a checkerboard pattern (with indents from the edges), in the center it is squeezed out in a zigzag manner (necessary when the surface is not even enough). Then a little time is given for the mixture to soak into the surface to improve adhesion. The escaping foam is removed. This composition foams the seams between the sheets of material.

Expanded polystyrene is by far one of the most popular heaters due to its low price and ease of use. Styrofoam is most effective for external insulation of walls and foundations of buildings. In this regard, there is a need to use adhesives to strengthen foam boards on concrete, brick and other surfaces. When choosing an adhesive, it must be borne in mind that its composition should not include organic solvents, such as acetone or gasoline, which adversely affect polystyrene. Today, there are many options for how to glue polystyrene foam. Let's consider the most common of them.

Polyurethane foam adhesive

The use of a special polyurethane adhesive sold in cylinders helps to increase the speed and improve the quality of concrete surface insulation.

This fact is the main advantage of this type of adhesive. The technology for the installation of foam plastic on concrete requires a 3-day technological break after gluing polystyrene boards and until they are fastened with dowels. This, accordingly, increases the total duration of all works. Using polyurethane foam adhesive foam, you can reduce technological break up to 1 day.

Advantages of polyurethane foam:

  • ideal for gluing foam to concrete;
  • reduction of terms of performance of thermal insulation works up to 3 times;
  • technological characteristics of adhesive-foam adhesion with concrete surface much higher than a simple dry adhesive mixture;
  • moisture resistance indicators are higher than that of dry mixes;
  • low consumption: only 1 cylinder is required per 10 square meters;
  • the cost of such glue is similar or slightly more expensive than that of dry adhesives (depending on the manufacturer);
  • simultaneously with the gluing of the plates, the joints are filled with foam, which effectively prevents the formation of cold bridges;
  • polyurethane foam is sold ready for use, so the quality of gluing will not depend on the human factor (mistakes in the preparation of glue) and will be stable throughout the entire scope of work.

The use of dry adhesive mixtures

For fastening polystyrene foam to concrete, specialized dry adhesive mixtures of several types can be used. The composition of dry glue, in addition to cement, includes fillers and mineral additives. Some of the dry adhesive mixtures may be intended only for fixing the foam, while others can be used for fixing and subsequent reinforcing the surface of the insulation. The difference lies in the number of polymers that make up their composition. For example, dry glue CT-85, produced by Ceresit, has a universal purpose, and CT-83 is used only for the installation of foam. ST-85 contains more polymers, therefore it is more ductile and durable, but it costs one and a half times more than ST-83.

Today, dry adhesive mixtures for expanded polystyrene from various manufacturers. Choosing necessary material, you should not give preference to too cheap goods from an unknown company. As a rule, such an adhesive may have poor ductility, insufficient strength and resistance to impact. environment. This can further significantly reduce the life of the insulation system.

The main advantages of dry foam adhesive:

  • has a high degree of adhesion to concrete and other surfaces;
  • quickly hardens - the prepared glue must be used within 2 hours after preparation;
  • has vapor permeability;
  • has good plasticity;
  • easy to use;
  • 1 bag of glue is enough for 5-6 square meters;
  • relatively low cost.

The dry mixture must be properly prepared before use, observing the necessary proportions of the dry component and water. Dry glue is poured into a container with a measured amount of water and gently mixed. construction mixer. This operation must be carried out with the blades completely immersed in the solution to prevent air bubbles from entering, which greatly reduces the quality of the adhesive. After allowing the solution to stand for 15 minutes, it is stirred again until the lumps disappear.
