Decorating an arch with your own hands. Interior arch - an elegant element of the interior How to decorate an arch in an apartment with your own

With the rapid entry into interior fashion of studio apartments and combined spaces with the effect of visual zoning, various arches have become an integral attribute of many interiors.

Originally this architectural element builders erected it as a ceiling for through or blind openings in walls, as well as to create lateral support, but modern designers They looked at it in a completely new way and now very often use arched frames as a decorative element during the implementation of various design projects.

7 ways to improve an arch in an apartment

If your house or apartment already has an arch, you can decorate it in an original way, even without the help of specialists, making it an expressive accent in the overall interior composition.

We offer several simple ways to frame arches that you can do yourself:

  • cover with textured trellises or wallpaper with an original design;
  • lay out natural or artificial stone;
  • improve by installing linings made of valuable wood around the openings;
  • decorate with decorative plaster;
  • paint and stencil;
  • tile around the opening with mosaics or mirror tiles;
  • cover with polyurethane moldings;
  • decorate with stucco molding.

Any of the above options does not require special knowledge or special skills - it is enough to accurately determine the method of decorating the arches in the apartment and stock up on the most necessary information before starting work, consumables and tools. In such cases, watching several video tutorials that reveal secrets of one type or another helps a lot. construction work or technological processes.

An accessible and inexpensive way to decorate an arch is to wallpaper it

An effective and, at the same time, accessible option for designing openings is to frame the arches with wallpaper. For this purpose, you can glue textured, colored trellises or cover the arch with panels with an original, eye-catching print. An opening covered with bright wallpaper looks very cheerful against the neutral background of the walls. The main thing is to choose wisely color scheme, echoing color scheme with other interior accents in the apartment, for example, textiles. It is permissible to glue several different types trellises or, if there are several arches in the apartment, cover them with contrasting wallpaper, but it is desirable that they be from the same collection or simply carefully matched to each other.

There are no special instructions on how to wallpaper an arch. The main thing is to strictly follow general recommendations regarding gluing exactly the type of trellis that you purchased. Usually they are written on each roll. Also a couple useful tips Salespeople from stores that sell wallpaper can tell you how to wallpaper an arch.

To cut off excess trellises when gluing, it is best to use a large breadboard knife, but it is advisable to trim the edges of the panels only after the glue has dried thoroughly, since soaked paper can simply tear under the blade, and as a result, the work done will look sloppy. It is advisable to protect the ends of the pasted arch with a special flexible plastic profile, otherwise there is a risk that the trellises will quickly fray at the protruding corners. It will not be a bad idea to stock up on wallpaper used for gluing for the future - an extra roll will always come in handy to update a dirty place without re-gluing the entire arch completely.

Framing an arched opening with stone or wooden overlays

In a classic or modern eco-interior, arches made of decorative stone, as well as structures decorated valuable species tree.

The big advantage of decorating with stone is that it can decorate an opening of any shape - from simple rectangular to semicircular and even asymmetrical. With wooden overlays it will be more difficult - not every carpentry workshop has required capacities and equipment for working with bent wood, so if such a master can be found, his services will cost much more than usual.

To reduce the cost of equipment, arches made of stone can be used instead of natural ones to lay out the opening artificial material, which not only looks no worse than the real thing, but also has greater wear resistance.

In both cases, before starting to frame arches and openings, it is necessary to carefully prepare the surface for decoration, leveling it and ensuring maximum symmetry relative to the axis (except for asymmetrical structures), since the decoration will make the initial construction flaws even more noticeable if they are not eliminated in time .

Arch decor using stucco and polyurethane elements

Beautiful arches in an apartment can be made using decorative elements such as plaster stucco, polystyrene foam or polyurethane moldings. But here you should be very careful: such decor for an arch is only suitable if the entire interior of the apartment is designed in styles such as Baroque, Rococo, Biedermeier. Agree, this design option will look very ridiculous if the entire home is decorated, for example, in country style, loft or minimalism.

Specialized stores sell ready-made stucco molding for the arch: rosettes, baguettes, friezes, moldings, which you just need to select correctly, harmoniously place on the opening area, glue, putty and paint. There is a stereotype that stucco decor must be white, but this is a complete misconception. Elements can be painted in any color, although the most noble in classic interiors looks like stucco painted in gold, silver or bronze with an antique effect (uneven painting of the surface, creating the illusion of wear).

You can talk about how to refine the arch on several more pages. Best advice V in this case– armed with photographs of examples of opening design you like, use your imagination and don’t be afraid to experiment, and then everything will definitely work out.

In the era of newfangled building materials and bold design solutions, it is difficult to surprise anyone with standard rectangular doors. Therefore, very often, when choosing a design for their apartment, many owners decide to decorate interior openings in If you show a little imagination, such designs can not only combine the space of several rooms, but also become the most attractive decorative element in the entire room. Arch finishing can be done in various options, for every taste and budget. What materials can be used to decorate? unusual shape and how to do this job with my own hands, we will consider in this article.

Selection of finishing materials

Since arches gained popularity quite a long time ago, manufacturers of modern finishing materials managed to establish production of products focused specifically on this element of the interior. Today, in specialized markets you can find ready-made products made of wood and MDF, which all you have to do is insert them into the doorway.

If you don't want to limit yourself standard solutions or the passage already has a round shape and just needs to be decorated, you can use the following materials:

  • wallpaper (any variety);
  • decorative plaster;
  • cork;
  • molding;
  • polyurethane;
  • mosaic;
  • decorative and natural stone.

The arches can be decorated using any of the listed options, the main thing is that it fits well with the design of both rooms. In order to assess the complexity of the work, we will dwell on each material separately.

Paper and cork wallpaper

Finishing with arch wallpaper is considered the easiest to perform and budget option. Here you don’t have to worry about the combination of materials, since most often the walls and the opening are covered with the same canvases.

It would seem that such a finish would be mediocre and unattractive, but if you are smart, you can give the arch a very impressive appearance.

Using brick-like wallpaper will allow you to create inexpensive

Add contrasting notes to the interior bright wallpaper With large drawings. They form only the vault of the arch, and at the joints different canvases They have special corners that protect them from abrasion.

IN lately arches are often decorated with cork wallpaper. Their use helps to decorate and highlight the area interior passage against the general background. The material can even be used in places high humidity, but only in this case it is necessary to choose options that have a wax coating.

Arch wallpapering technology

Before you start gluing wallpaper, the surface of the arch and adjacent walls should be well leveled using putty.

Next they prepare the glue. Experienced experts advise mixing a thick adhesive solution. This allows you to achieve excellent adhesion in places where there is a sharp bend and makes it possible to move the blade for better joining.

The first strip is glued to the wall located near the arch. The next one is positioned so that it is half closed. The protruding part of the glued fabric is cut off, leaving an allowance of 25 mm. Along the entire length of the resulting stock, small cuts are made (at a distance of 20 mm from each other), which are folded over using a roller. inner side and stick. This way the entire opening is covered on both sides.

Next they move to the vault of the arch. A strip is cut out of the wallpaper, the width of which is equal to the depth of the opening itself. Taking into account the location of the design elements, it is glued to the inner surface of the arch and side walls. To prevent the formation of air bubbles, smooth the wallpaper with a clean roller.

Installing cork wallpaper is no different from working with paper sheets, so we won’t dwell on it separately.

Decorative plaster

Finishing can be done using even more simple way- application decorative plaster.

Before using it, it is necessary to eliminate all defects on the wall surface. Using putty and a spatula, smooth out all the unevenness, mask the seams and hide the heads of the fasteners. To ensure reliable adhesion of the material to the base, the arch is treated with a primer and left to dry for a day.

When it is completely dry, it can be painted with special paints or simply treated with finishing solutions.

Molding

Often finishing is done by combining various materials, and the highlight of such an interior are the moldings.

This concept usually means a wide variety of decorative elements in the form of curly, narrow and long stripes. They can be made of plastic, foam, wood, MDF, metal and other materials.

Moldings go well with all types of wallpaper and decorative plaster. Such strips are installed at both ends of the arch and secured with liquid nails. For the best combination with the interior, it is recommended to use such elements not only to decorate the opening, but also to decorate the surfaces surrounding it.

Products made of polyurethane

Recently, arches are often finished using polyurethane. It's tight and enough flexible material, from which decorative elements are made white in the form of stucco.

This finishing is attractive because its cost is much lower than, say, decorating with stone or tiles. Installation of polyurethane is very simple - using specially designed glue. The lining of the opening can be done in two versions. In the first, the arch is decorated simultaneously from both the inside and the outside. In this case vertical racks can be designed in the form of round or square columns, expanding upward.

If massive structures do not fit into the surrounding interior, you can only make the edging of the corners from more elegant elements.

Natural and artificial stone

Arch finishing decorative stone- the most labor-intensive process, but the result is always impressive. This type of cladding looks most impressive when not only the passage is finished, but also part of the adjacent walls. Both symmetry and asymmetry are relevant here. If the openings are located close to each other, you can decorate the interior with smoothly transitioning cladding from one arch to another. Regardless of which option is selected, natural materials always look rich and impressive.

Another advantage of the stone is that it does not require a perfectly smooth surface, which eliminates the need for thorough preparation.

However, there are also difficulties associated with using this material.

First of all, it is its weight. Natural stones It is not recommended to use it for cladding structures made of plasterboard, as this can lead to deformation and even destruction of the opening. Here it is better to use plaster or acrylic imitation, which looks no less elegant.

Also, finishing the arch with stone becomes very difficult in rounded areas. Inexperienced craftsmen have to tinker with it in order to do the job beautifully and efficiently.

Installation of decorative stone

Facing is carried out in several stages:

1. The surface is puttied to remove large irregularities.

2. Prepare the adhesive composition. The most commonly used mixture is lime, cement, sand and glue. If light grades or gypsum imitation were chosen for finishing, you can fasten them using ordinary liquid nails.

3. The first stone is laid at the very bottom, at the junction of the wall and the arched opening. It is leveled and pressed tightly against the wall. To avoid having to seal the corners at the end of the work, the material is overlapped. To do this, the tiles of the first row from the floor are attached flush to the opening, and the tiles of the second row are moved inward at a distance equal to its own thickness. So, by alternating rows, the entire cladding is done.

4. When finishing the arched part of the opening, the material is applied to the arch, the cut line is marked and all excess is removed. Here you can use special nippers or an angle grinder.

5. All angular and sharp edges are carefully sanded with a file.

6. The resulting seams are filled with a special grout.

Mosaic

Decorative finishing of an arch in places of high humidity (such as a bathhouse, bathtub, kitchen) is most often done using mosaics.

In this option, it is possible to use products made of glass, ceramics, metal, concrete or tile. The material is laid out on a prepared and smoothed surface, where it is attached to a specialized compound. The glue is applied with a notched trowel simultaneously to the wall and the tile, after which the product is pressed tightly to the surface. The seams are carefully rubbed with special colored compounds.

Using patterned tiles makes the laying a little more difficult as the material must be positioned according to the pattern, but the end result is well worth the effort.

Conclusion

The modern construction market is so diverse that it is difficult to list all the cladding options. doorways It's simply impossible. Designers are increasingly using bamboo, textile, mirror, forged and other elements to create interiors. We tried to consider the most popular materials that can be used to decorate an arch. The photos presented in this article will help you get an idea of this or that method of decoration, and maybe even lead you to create own project. We hope that the recommendations outlined will provide significant assistance to all beginning craftsmen.

The best arched vaults in doorway are obtained from plasterboard, but after this it is extremely necessary to finish the arch in the apartment, to create clear lines of corners by applying putty.

Materials used to decorate the arch in the apartment

Formation arched openings in a house or apartment is associated, first of all, with the correct geometry, the vault must have clear outline a semicircle or semi-ellipse, unless, of course, something wavy and asymmetrical is planned. To ensure that the corners have the correct shape and 90 degrees, special rigid profiles are usually used as a kind of frame limiting the edges of the structure made of plasterboard sheets.

Ideal lines are created directly during the puttying process, when thin metal or plastic perforated corners are placed on the solution. Moreover, they are produced for arches special forms profiles, with one solid shelf and the second in the form of a row of teeth or petals. Plasterboard sheets are made quite smooth, in fact, it is dry plaster, which is used to cover the walls and ceiling, and also perform other work, in particular, finishing the interior arch in the apartment with your own hands.

However, the seams between the sheets and the heads of poorly recessed screws still create small irregularities, the correction of which does not require any special materials other than putty and a perforated corner. Profiles come with large and small holes across the entire surface, which can be square, round or triangular, or perforated.

Sometimes the corners are supplied with glued on outside mesh, providing stronger fixation after puttying.

Do-it-yourself interior arch finishing step by step

A beautiful doorway that arches overhead is completely within everyone’s power, since there are many instructions. However, assembling the frame and sheathing it is only half the battle; you need to achieve a perfect fusion of the wall surface and the structure made in the opening, as well as ensure clear lines of corners. This is why putty is used in combination with special profiles. Let's look at the entire sequence of work.

Finishing an interior arch - step-by-step diagram

Step 1: Profile Installation

First of all, after priming, we take a pre-purchased perforated profile in sufficient quantities; its total length should correspond to at least twice the length of the arch arc. Sometimes, in cases where the opening is made in a partition made of plasterboard, it is necessary to make overlays on the sides. Having determined in advance the area that requires strengthening the edges, we apply perforated corner and secure it along its entire length at equal intervals with screws.

We repeat this operation on the other side of the arch.

Step 2: Fixing the profile with a solution

We take a small portion of putty from a container with a ready-made composition, or prepare a limited amount from a dry mixture. Using a spatula, apply thick strokes between the screws and smooth them, carefully pressing the solution into the perforation holes to ensure sufficient adhesion to the base. In this case, the mixture should also lie on top of the corner, grabbing it to the surface of the drywall.

Step 3: Removing Fasteners

We are waiting for the putty applied to the corner to dry completely, this will not take much time, due to the fact that small portions were used. As soon as no traces of moisture are visible on the surface of the hardening solution, you can carefully unscrew the screws - the profile will be securely held due to the hardened mixture. Next, using a spatula, carefully, without applying much effort, remove excess solution, frozen drops, and too obvious protrusions. You can carefully go over the putty strokes with a float sandpaper for sanding to smooth the surface. At the same time, try not to remove too much of the frozen mixture so that the fixation of the profile does not weaken.

Step 4: Finishing the Arch

When everything preparatory work completed, and all that remains is to putty the plasterboard arch, you will need a wide spatula, length work surface which must exceed the thickness of the arched portal.

In small portions we take the solution, ready-made or mixed with our own hands. It's best to put it right away finishing plaster, the flat surface of drywall allows this.

If the structure is built into an opening between two plastered walls, the connection line will need to be smoothed. In this case, it is recommended to first use the starting putty, and only then, after the two layers have dried, apply the finishing mixture.

How to properly putty a plasterboard arch

Today, many homeowners who have started renovations and improved their doorways with dry plaster have a question about how to properly putty a plasterboard arch, and why to do it. It would seem that all that is needed is to hide it under economical strokes, and also to cover up the cracks between the sheets. However, this is completely incorrect, because if the final, decorative finish is applied directly to the drywall, it will be stripped during the next repair. To avoid unnecessary expenses, it is better to spend money once and use putty.

So we have an arch. It can be part of the partition, or a structure inside the opening; the amount of work depends on how it is made. In the first case, we will finish the arch portal together with the wall cladding, in the second, we need to perform an invisible merger plasterboard construction and regular brick wall, which may have already disappeared under layers of plaster. The scope of work determines what materials we will need. For the first option it is enough finishing putty, for the second one you also need a starting one. However, in both cases a universal mixture is quite suitable.

In the event that we have an arch in a regular opening, and we need to combine it with the wall, we use either a wide spatula or a short rule, since we will be applying the solution in generous portions. In this case, the layer of putty should not exceed 0.5 centimeters, so try to make the arched structure flush with the wall. If necessary, it is allowed to apply up to 3-4 layers, including the finishing layer, after completion of each of which you need to wait at least 12 hours. When starting work, make sure that the spatula does not catch on the screws; if this happens, it means that they were not screwed in well enough.

We seal the joints of the sheets with sickle tape, all defects on the surface of the drywall are covered at the very beginning, before laying the first layer. We start finishing with putty from the top, gradually going down, treating the inner, curved part of the arched portal with sweeping longitudinal movements. Special attention should be applied to the seams, literally pressing the mixture into them; you can also apply a little more putty on top than on the plane, since when the solution dries, it sags and a recess may form. It’s better to leave a convex seam; it can always be sanded. Upon completion of the work, the arches in the house can be finished with decorative plaster.

The idea is not to install in interior openings the doors are not that new. It can be successfully implemented in any room interior, and the advantages of such a solution are well known. Mostly, owners are interested in the question of how to decorate an arch in an apartment or private building, and not in the order of its arrangement. There are many options, and therefore you will have to choose an acceptable method and materials yourself, taking into account a number of specific points.

It should be assumed that decorating the arch is the final stage of the entire work. This means you need to analyze the following:

  • What aspect of finishing should we focus on – is it just its decorative component or also its protective function? For conditions of high humidity (for example, if there is an opening into the kitchen) it is very important.
  • Construction type. Rectangular arch and hemisphere are finished differently.
  • What is the purpose of designing the opening? It’s just natural to fit it into the interior or design it in an original way, so that it stands out against the general background.
  • What is the arch made of, that is, its materials structural elements. This also influences the choice of surface finishing technology.

Opening design options

Wallpapering

  • Simplicity of technology.
  • Low cost. Finishing an arch in this way will be quite cheap.
  • High speed of work.
  • Good maintainability.

  • Fragility.
  • A number of restrictions. When decorating an arch in an apartment using this technology, you need to take into account two nuances. Firstly, wallpaper fades, and therefore if you cover an opening in the wall with it, then only where it is not exposed to sun rays. That is, inside the home, away from the windows. Secondly, it is not advisable to implement this finishing method near the kitchen, even if the linens are washable. Constant fumes, drops of fat, and so on will quickly give the arch a depressing appearance, and washing it too often is not a pleasant prospect. In addition, even the highest quality wallpaper wears out when intensively processed.

Varnish finish

If an arch made of solid wood, with its good texture, is placed in the opening - best option; best solution just can't be found. The only thing you have to think about is how exactly to make the decor. There is a large assortment of varnishes - transparent and tinted compositions, different shades. Some fully emphasize all the advantages of wood, while others can somewhat neutralize the existing disadvantages.

In principle, when installing just such arches, you can show the fullness of your imagination. Even a cheap species can easily be given the appearance of an expensive tree or transformed. There is enough technology; For example, artificial aging, brushing, bleaching and a number of others. In some cases it is much easier to paste over the arch decorative film simulating wooden base. More than good decision, if low-grade lumber was used to finish the opening in order to save money.

Decoration with stucco

In everyday life, its imitation is mainly used. IN furniture showrooms And shopping centers Whole panels or shaped segments made of polyurethane are sold for decorating surfaces.

  • Easy to cut and attach.
  • Light sample weight.
  • Low cost of cladding.

Polymer stucco molding is not suitable for every style of room design (it’s definitely not suitable for a square or rectangular room). But it is more difficult to finish a spherical structure in this way. As an option, cover only the conical part of the opening with PU segments, and cover the vertical posts with another material. A sense of taste, the ability for spatial thinking and imagination will tell you how to better organize everything.

Decorative plaster

  • Simple application technology.
  • Huge selection of decor options.
  • Possibility of creating a relief surface.

  • Low maintainability.
  • Difficulty of care.

PVC panels

If the arch has corner configuration, or the radius of the arc of the hemisphere is large - one of the simplest and most easily implemented solutions. The specificity of the finishing is that it is necessary to install the sheathing. And although this extra work, but it gives the advantage that it is very easy to place lighting elements in such an arch. In addition, the maintainability of the cladding is excellent; Replacing a damaged panel does not require professionalism or time.

Textile

Another original way finishing, but it is not practiced very often. Here, a lot depends on the interior of the room, and therefore consider this arch design option as the best design solution no need to.

A significant drawback of any fabric is that it absorbs odors and moisture. This is the main difficulty of this finishing technique; The decor of the arch is largely determined by the place in the house where it is installed. Therefore, there are limitations in such decoration. For example, at the entrance to the kitchen or hallway, it hardly makes sense to decorate the arches with fabric. In relation to the apartment standard layout the only option is an opening leading to the living room.

Preparation stage

All technological operations almost identical; there can only be individual nuances, depending on the chosen decoration technique.

  • Thorough cleaning of the base. It is advisable to level it as much as possible to facilitate the finishing process. This mainly applies to doorways in walls made of brick or concrete. In some cases, special arched structures are not placed in them, but the end parts of the equipped passage and the areas adjacent to it are directly decorated. This is typical when facing arches with a regular (square or rectangular) configuration with artificial stone or panels.
  • Antiseptic impregnation and primer treatment. The latter agent “nails” the remaining dust and increases the adhesion of the base. Consequently, when gluing finishing materials there will be no problems with dirt pellets and air bubbles.

Sample cutting

Difficulties arise if it is necessary to cut the slats, which are often used to form vaults, at an angle; Otherwise, they cannot be joined together without creating a large gap. A miter box will help out - a simple device that costs no more than 100 rubles. It is necessary to have it on hand if you are finishing some unusual arch with a complex configuration.

Color design

There are many recommendations on this point. But if we sum them all up, then basically the following trend can be seen - most experts agree that the decoration of the arch should be done taking into account the shade of the wall in which it is placed. The completeness and originality of the design can only be emphasized by creating contrast. Monochromaticity eliminates all the advantages of such a room design.

Doorway decoration

In the finishing process, you should not limit yourself to just one material. Even the cheapest cladding will be significantly transformed if, when decorating an arch in an apartment or house, you use various additional elements in the form of strips, inserts, ribbons (simple, embossed) and the like. General design the premises will only benefit from this.

Backlight

It is organized not only for comfort and partial energy savings. Spotlights(for example, LED devices) mounted in the arch are the same elements of its decoration. Properly placed and selected according to power, they can give a completely different look to the decoration in the evening; even the most inexpensive one will look impressive and quite presentable.

The above technologies and materials are not the only ones with which arched openings can be beautifully finished. With certain skills, you can create spectacular mosaic compositions, use cork panels, cut logs - the choice of decoration methods is huge.

On at the moment Due to the abundance of finishing materials, the question arises of how to decorate the arch. There are many options for making such an unusual design.

Materials used to decorate the arch

Before you choose how to decorate an arch in an apartment, you need to determine what it is made of.

Let's consider this option in more detail:

  • At the moment, a common option for making an arch is plasterboard.
  • For this purpose they use a special type of it - arched GLK.
  • It has a perforated surface.

Note. If you need to give the material a certain shape, then it is moistened with water and placed on some object for a while. It bends and dries.

  • They attach it to a previously constructed profile frame made of metal.
  • Sheets are mounted on it using self-tapping screws.

Advice. Do not overtighten the screws so that the gypsum dough, which is located between the sheets of pressed cardboard, is not damaged. It's quite fragile.

The arch is divided into ends and corners. These two components can be designed the same or differently. It all depends on the interior design (see Decorative decoration of arches).

How to decorate an arch in an apartment:

  • Wallpaper.
  • Artificial stone (see: Wood arch trim, classic interior).
  • Decorative plaster.
  • Simple coloring.

Advice. To make the arch look original, various decorative lighting fixtures are often placed in it.

To do this, electrical wiring is initially laid so that the arch can be turned on and off autonomously.

Wallpaper in arch design

Today there is such material huge selection wallpaper that is suitable for decorating an arched opening (see Decorating an arch with mosaics, design options).

Wallpaper can be:

  • Paper.
  • Non-woven.
  • Vinyl.
  • Silkscreen printing.
  • Waterproof and others.

All of them look original on any surface, only they have their own specific service life and surface care methods.

Note. Wallpaper the arch - economical option. Especially if they use simple paper wallpaper for this.

To paste the arch you will need:

  • Special glue that matches the type of wallpaper.
  • Foam roller for leveling the surface.
  • A simple pencil and ruler for cutting out dimensions on a roll.
  • Use a dry cloth to wipe off excess glue so that it does not stain the finished surface.
  • Scissors for cutting the roll.
  • Use a utility knife to straighten the edges of the wallpaper at the corners of the arch.

Advice. To make the wallpaper look original, thin foam baseboards are often used to decorate the surface of the arch. They are glued to the dried wallpaper to complete the finishing with liquid nails or white sealant.

Work process:

  • If the arch is made of plasterboard, then there is no need to level the surface.
  • You just need to treat the joints of the sheets with putty if necessary.
  • It is worth priming the arch so that there is good adhesion of the glue to the surface.
  • A certain size piece is cut out of a roll of wallpaper and coated with glue on the back side.

Note. There are wallpapers that, after gaining moisture, can expand in size. This must be taken into account in your work.

  • Wallpaper with glue should sit for a while. Let the glue soak in.
  • For greater confidence, coat the surface of the arch.
  • After this, the wallpaper is attached to the arch and glued well with a dry rag.
  • Then they walk along them foam roller, which can effectively remove air bubbles.

Advice. You can choose not only light shades of such material for the arch. The arch with flowers and other designs looks quite original.

If you can use the services of repairmen to decorate the arch with other materials, then you can easily paste the wallpaper onto the surface with your own hands. You just need to glue the joints well.

Note. For high-quality gluing of joints, use cash register tape, which is pre-glued to the surface. It holds the edges of the roll on itself.

How to decorate an arch using regular paint?

How to finish a plasterboard arch? Quite often, the most common paint is used for this:

  • At the moment there is a large assortment of this finishing product.
  • There are a variety of shades, and you can use not only standard light colors for an arch.
  • Paint is applied only to the prepared surface.

Advice. If the arch is made of plasterboard, then it is covered with a thin layer of plaster and then primed.

Using paint is the easiest and fastest way to finish a structure.

For work you will need:

  • Paint of a certain shade.
  • Brushes and rollers with natural bristles.

Note. To paint any surface, it is best to use a brush and roller with natural bristles only. They are able to distribute paint evenly on the surface.

It is also worth considering that the price for this type of cladding is affordable. Most often, water-based emulsion is used for work.

Artificial stone for finishing arched structures

How to decorate the corners of the arch? Quite often decorative stone is used for such work:

  • It is made from acrylic or other substances.
  • The stone does not have much mass and is quite easy to install.
  • It is moisture-resistant and practical, and does not require special care for its surface.
  • If the arch is made with paint or plaster, then finishing its corners with artificial stone will add uniqueness.

The stone is secured using:

  • Glue for decorative stone, which is white.
  • Spatulas.
  • Level if necessary.
  • A tile cutter is needed to give the stone size.

Advice. To finish the corners of the arch, you should use thin tiles of artificial stone.

Decorative plaster for arches

Decorative plaster is great option how to finish the ends of the arches.

  • Apply a layer of it only to the plastered surface.
  • Also, the surface must be flat.

At the moment there is a large assortment. Decorative plaster can be made with threads and sparkles, natural and artificial stone.

To apply it to the surface you will need:

  • Two spatulas (large and small).
  • Construction level for flat surface finishing.

Advice. There are special instructions for mixing the decorative plaster solution. Dry powder is poured into a container, into which a certain amount of liquid is poured while stirring.

Work process:

  • Immediately apply a small layer of plaster.
  • Give it a little time to dry.

Note. The layers of such a product on the surface must be transparent so that, as a result of applying several layers, a uniform shade is obtained.

  • Then subsequent layers are applied.
  • Sandpaper is not required for the work, as it can damage the surface of the decorative plaster (see Finishing an arch with cork).

The arch turns out unusual color with various inclusions. You can combine plaster with decorative stone. This design design looks no less original. Watch a video on how to design an arch.
