Linoleum connection. How to connect linoleum to each other - technology using glue and hot welding. Linoleum laying options

Linoleum has been a popular flooring material for decades. floor covering. It is inexpensive and comes in a wide range of colors and designs. This material is easy to work with. All stages of repair can be performed independently, without the involvement of repair teams. The only thing that can cause difficulties when laying is the joining of the strips. The resulting seam can spoil the appearance, so the correct execution of this work is very important. Let's figure out how to dock linoleum.

Before you finally decide how to connect the joints of linoleum, get acquainted with various methods. Knowing about their features, you can make independent choice. So, in total there are two ways of neat docking - it is cold and hot.

The hot method requires the use of special equipment, experience and is used for commercial type linoleum (soft household will not work). In this method, the material is heated up to 400 degrees. The result is a strong and durable joint that can withstand heavy use.

Most commonly used in everyday life cold way connections. A special glue is used here. There are two types, A and C.

Adhesive A

If you decide to join with type A glue, then you must perform the following work:

  1. It is necessary to clean the junction from various contaminants. This should be taken especially seriously. It is best to rinse the edges of the linoleum strips with water, but then let them dry.
  2. Then use masking tape. With it, the joint and the nearby part of the linoleum are sealed. You can stick adhesive tape with an overlap.
  3. Using a knife, cut the adhesive tape at the junction.
  4. Now take a tube of glue type A. After opening it, fill it with all the space of the resulting incision in the adhesive tape. In this case, you need to monitor the height of the resulting "side", its value should not exceed 4 mm.
  5. Now let the layer dry. As a rule, 15-20 minutes will be enough.
  6. After the glue dries, remove the tape. In this case, it is undesirable to disturb the gluing seam.
  7. We wait about an hour without doing any work. During this time, the joint will finally harden.
  8. If the formed "side" of the glue protrudes strongly, it can be carefully cut off with a carpenter's knife.

AT doorways you can dock linoleum with a special aluminum threshold.

If you did everything slowly and carefully, then the connection will turn out to be even and strong.

Glue C

If type A glue is only suitable for working with a new coating, then type C can also be used to repair old linoleum. The principle of operation is the same. The only difference is that there is no need to use masking tape. Type C glue is thicker and will not spread. And all other steps are done in the same way.

Whatever tool you use to join two pieces of linoleum together, it is important to remember about safety. Both types of glue can be harmful to human health if ingested. Therefore, work must be carried out with an open window (it is better that there is a draft in the room), in a mask and gloves. After work, the room should also be well ventilated.

Connection to other flooring

AT modern design residential areas often use several options for flooring. For example, ceramic tiles and linoleum may be present in the same room. How to proceed in this case?

To connect such coatings, you can use special aluminum sills. Today, such material is widely represented in stores. You can use a regular flat nut. In this case, it is attached at the junction using ordinary self-tapping screws. There is a threshold consisting of two slats. The first is attached directly to the floor. The second plank, decorative, is put on the first, as a result, caps from self-tapping screws are not visible on the surface, and the connection looks more aesthetically pleasing.

If the thickness of the coatings is different, then you can slightly raise the edges. The floor is leveling cement screed or by placing a piece of plywood under the edge of the linoleum. It is important to correctly calculate all the dimensions so that it does not work out big gap. After that, you can use the same threshold or building glue.

But you can do it easier - purchase a threshold that can connect coatings with different levels. As a rule, such designs allow you to hide the difference of one and a half centimeters. Such sills are often used when connecting laminate and linoleum.

These sills can be fixed in three ways:

  1. Through. In this case, the threshold is superimposed on the junction (with entry to each type floor materials) and attached with self-tapping screws. This method is convenient if the difference in height is insignificant.
  2. Using a hidden fastening strip. This method allows you to make the connection more beautiful, since the top bar is smooth and has no holes. mounting plate fastened to the floor with self-tapping screws, while it tightly presses the floor covering. And already the top is attached to it with the help of grooves. decorative strip.
  3. With the use of glue. Such a connection is used quite rarely. It does not allow to achieve sufficient strength, but to make it easier than the previous options. At the place of joining the floor covering, a decorative strip is mounted on liquid nails. Then you need to wait until it dries completely (it is better that the bar is under load all this time). Instead of liquid nails you can use any other construction adhesive, preferably based on silicone.

As you may have noticed, there are enough ways to connect linoleum with each other or with other floor coverings. To fully understand the features of each method, we recommend watching the video.

Commercial linoleum and similar materials can only be joined qualitatively by hot welding.

Many consumers use linoleum for indoor flooring. Companies in Russia and abroad produce many types of flooring in various colors and qualities. This material has several advantages over other materials:

  • high moisture resistance and abrasion resistance;
  • produced in a wide range;
  • is produced in the optimal price range, which allows you to choose the material based on the financial capabilities of the consumer.

Selection of the necessary linoleum for flooring

For flooring indoors, many types of coatings are produced, which must meet certain parameters:

  • by color and pattern;
  • by thickness and density;
  • on ecology.

Enterprises produce many types of linoleum that imitates stone, parquet, laminate, carpet and ceramic tiles. The color scheme is also diverse and should take into account the lighting and design of the room, the style of the furniture and the color of the walls.

The durability of the floor covering to a large extent depends on the thickness of the upper face layer, which ensures the wear resistance of the coating. It is not recommended to purchase and lay linoleum thinner than 3 mm indoors; it wears out quickly and loses its attractive appearance.

Companies producing quality material, to confirm the quality of the coating in without fail attach a certificate of quality.

The range and types of linoleum

The material marking is indicated by two digits that determine the class of coverage - the first digit indicates the type of room for which the linoleum is intended, and the second - the load.

Using the European classification EN 685, there are 3 types of premises:

  1. - used for living;
  2. – administrative, office;
  3. - intended for industrial purposes.

According to the load on the coating, they are divided into:

  • - medium intensity;
  • - at high load;
  • – very intensive use.
  • The material is produced with a multilayer structure - the upper front layer and a layer consisting of a warming material. The front layer is made of PVC and, based on the thickness of the top layer, is divided into the following types:

    • household (PVC layer thickness 0.1–0.3 mm, class 21–23);
    • semi-commercial (PVC layer thickness 0.4–0.5, class 31–32);
    • commercial (PVC layer thickness from about 6 mm, class 33).

    Next comes a special layer of reinforced mesh, made of fiberglass and laid between the front and the lowest layer of the coating. And as insulation, a heat-insulating layer made of PVC foam.

    To increase the durability of linoleum, a layer of polyester is included in the composition, which allows the coating to better tolerate low temperatures.

    To give the material an aesthetic appearance, the surface is covered with a moisture-resistant varnish.

    Linoleum is also used as a floor covering, cut into squares of various sizes - floor tiles. Tiles are produced in various qualities and colors, its use simplifies flooring. The work performed is especially simplified - on laying tiles, performed by one's own hands.

    Of particular note is the most frequent use of linoleum for flooring in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and hallways. Consumers are faced with the question of how to join linoleum: with doing the work with their own hands or using the services of a specialist? The main disadvantage is the linoleum flooring in rooms of various sizes, since the width of the coating has a certain amount and requires joining the seams between the sheets.

    The question arises how to join the material, with the ability to make the connection imperceptibly, fitting the joints as tightly as possible. Linoleum is cut according to required dimensions rooms, and the joints are connected by welding. This operation can be done with your own hands if you have experience in carrying out such work. Welding technology is carried out according to different methods, nose prerequisite linoleum soldering must be done correctly with high quality and fast.

    Basically, two types of connections are used:

    Hot welding is mainly used when joining linoleum, in administrative and industrial premises, and cold in apartments. How to solder linoleum with high quality, quickly and what tool is needed for this? During hot welding, the connection of linoleum is made using a special tool that makes it possible to make the joining of the edges of linoleum at temperatures above 350 * C.

    For residential premises, cold welding is used, which can be done by hand and is simpler and convenient way, consisting of operations:

    1. The joined sheets of material along the joining seam are superimposed on each other with an overlap of 2–3 cm.
    2. With the help of a long rail, an undercut is made at the place of application - one seam is formed between two sheets of coating.
    3. To protect the front side of the linoleum, adhesive tape is glued to the seam.
    4. Next, the adhesive tape is cut exactly along the seam.
    5. Glue is applied to the back of the material.
    6. Remove excess glue.
    7. If necessary, a connecting strip is installed on the seam at the junction in the doorway.

    For joining linoleum at home, 3 types of adhesives "A", "C" and "T" are used. Composition "A" - adhesive composition of a liquid consistency, used mainly when gluing a new floor covering. Adhesive composition "C" more thick consistency and is used for gluing an already used coating during repairs. When using composition "A", the edges of the linoleum are partially dissolved, forming a strong connection.

    A positive characteristic as an adhesive for linoleum was received by the Werner Müller composition, produced in 2 types "A" and "C". One tube is enough for gluing seams from 6 to 10 running meters. Good adhesive properties have the composition "Homapol", which is diluted with water and has a universal application.

    For the connection, the composition of the class "T" is also used, which is intended for gluing PVC linoleum, made on the basis of polyester.

    "Hot welding" is performed using a special tool and a polymer welding cord. When connecting linoleum with this method, the molten polymer firmly fixes the two sheets of the coating. For connection, a welding machine powered by the mains is used.

    The welding process consists of successive operations:

    1. Initially, the edges of linoleum sheets are processed. With a special knife, a groove is cut at the place where the seam passes with a depth of up to half the thickness of the sheet of material.
    2. The seam is thoroughly cleaned of dust and impurities.
    3. The welding machine is turned on, a period of time is given for heating up to a temperature of 350–400 * C. A nozzle is mounted on the device and a welding cord is connected.
    4. With help welding machine both sheets are connected, under the influence of the molten polymer.
    5. Excess polymer is removed with a special knife.
    6. The seam is created by passing the connection line in both directions.

    Linoleum flooring is durable and lasts for years without losing its appearance. The connecting seam between the sheets of the coating firmly holds the brazed coating, forming a single protective layer. When joining linoleum in doorways between rooms, a special decorative strip is used. Many works on laying linoleum and tiles can be done by hand, which greatly reduces the cost of repairs. Tiles in case of damage are easily replaced with new sheets. The main thing is to do all the operations correctly, in compliance with the technology and so that the seams between the sheets are inconspicuous and durable.

    To connect linoleum at the joints, there are special compounds that, when correct application practically do not leave any noticeable marks on the surface of the seam. Observing enough simple technology it is possible to achieve that the places of gluing pieces of linoleum together will be noticeable only upon careful examination of the entire area where this flooring was laid.

    At the installation stage

    If you only lay new linoleum on the floor, then first you need to decide whether to stick it to the base or not. It is not recommended to glue the coating on the surface only in some places. This is due to the fact that in linoleum, which was laid with the use of special glue, the deformation process under the regular influence of a periodic load differs from the deformation of the same material, the flooring of which was carried out without the use of an adhesive.

    The result of the fact that linoleum is glued to the base, for example, only at the joints, will be the formation of a noticeable strip along the places where the coating was glued. The outer surface of the linoleum glued to the floor will look even and smooth, and along the line of transition from the glued layer to the non-glued layer, small stretch marks will appear over time on the side that was laid without glue.

    Partial gluing is definitely not worth using. Or apply glue to the entire surface of the floor, observing mandatory requirements specified in the instructions, or do not use it at all. Of course, the linoleum that was pasted special composition using the right technology, it will hold much better, but for domestic needs of flooring in an apartment, it is quite possible to do without the use of glue.

    Laying linoleum on a floor screed without glue is ideally performed on a previously prepared base. To do this, treat the surface of the screed with a special primer, such as Ceresit (Ceresit) ST 17. The cost of a 10 liter canister is approximately 550 rubles. Depending on the absorbency of the substrate, the liquid consumption will be from 0.1 kg/m² to 0.2 kg per 1 m² of surface. The consequence of treating the base with such a composition will be the dedusting of the surface and the improvement of its adhesion (the ability to absorb paint, varnish or glue), as well as a decrease in water absorption capacity.

    Linoleum flooring without the use of glue provides for fixing the material at the edges. Near the walls the best option will simply press the cover with a plinth. As for the joints, here you will need to use a special adhesive, which is also called "cold welding" for linoleum.

    What cold welding is better? Overview of companies and prices

    Cold welding is a paste-like substance that comes in tubes. One small tube with a volume of 60 ml is enough for joining from 25 to 30 m of a seam, depending on the thickness of the linoleum and the experience of the master.

    Among the popular manufacturers whose products have been in demand for many years, the following brands can be mentioned:

    • Cold welding Forbo (Forbo) Eurocol 671 - 42 g of a tube is enough for about 20 m of a seam. The price of the package is 470 rubles.
    • Homakoll S 401 - a metal tube with 60 ml of paste will cost 250 rubles.

    We do not recommend choosing cheaper varieties of glue for joints, since there is a high probability of acquiring an ineffective composition that will not make it possible to make quality seam. Once you save on cold welding, you will later have to use the floor covering daily and see a clearly visible seam that could be almost invisible.

    At the same time, do not forget that it is also important to observe the right technology joining linoleum and applying the composition. Next, we consider in detail the sequence of work.

    Joint bonding technology

    The most important thing here is to ensure the tightest fit of the material along the entire length of the joint. Just attaching one flat strip of linoleum to another will not be enough. It is necessary to ensure that the coating on both sides of the joint is securely fixed and there is a slight overlap of one side to the other along the entire length of the joint.

    Along this joint in the middle of the overlap, with the sharpest construction knife, an incision is made to the depth of two layers of linoleum superimposed on each other. If you make an incision not in the center of the overlap, but only along one edge, then you may not get a perfectly even tight joint. After a small strip is cut from both halves of the material at the junction, these residues should be removed.

    Further, a strip of wide construction tape is glued along the entire length of the future seam. Then, exactly along the junction, it should be carefully cut with the same knife so as not to damage the coating and not accidentally jump off the trajectory of the junction line.

    A composition from a tube is applied to the cut seam. Its amount must be carefully dosed, since the space between the halves to be joined is very small and cold welding will fit quite a bit per 1 cm of the seam. If you overdo it and apply too much glue, then some of it will protrude above the surface of the tape, and some will remain under the linoleum and create an additional rise in the seam above the surface of the rest of the coating.

    Excess cold welding protruding above the adhesive tape on the joint surface is immediately removed with a cloth. After 15 minutes, the tape can be safely removed. Its function was to keep glue from getting on the surface of the linoleum, and it did an excellent job. During this period of time, cold welding completely hardens and the floor can be used with complete confidence.

    Technology instruction video

    Such a connection, when choosing high-quality cold welding, perfectly tolerates significant tensile loads, no worse than the material of the linoleum itself. When exposed to "tear", the dried layer of glue shows noticeably lower strength characteristics than the PVC coating - it tears with about the same ease as office paper.

    AT modern interior Increasingly, you can find floor coverings consisting of different materials. Such a move allows you to add uniqueness and beauty to the space, and in some cases, divide the room into two. functional areas. For example, when zoning a kitchen, ceramics are used to highlight the work area, and linoleum to emphasize the dining area. Thus, you can divide any space, the main thing is that it looks appropriate and harmonious.

    Varieties of materials

    To combine the space with the help of two opposite materials, you need to use special sills. They can be plastic, aluminum, consist of wood plywood or cork compensator. They are produced in huge quantities, different in appearance, shape and color, which allows each buyer to choose perfect option to create a joint.

    If the flooring is a semicircular, wavy or other shape, then a metal profile is well suited.

    It can be used to combine different forms floor materials, including multi-level floors.

    The cork base is able to change its thickness, narrowing and expanding. When installing the compensator, it is necessary to firmly stick it deep so that it cannot be seen. It is possible to join ceramics and linoleum without additional fasteners. In this case, only sealant can be used.

    Advantages and disadvantages of combined coatings

    AT modern apartments you can often find combined floor coverings. This way of design makes it possible to rationally use the unique qualities of each material, since the load on the surface can vary greatly. Often it is found in the kitchen-living room, and sometimes in the hallway.

    The load can be carried out not only by furniture, but also by contact with water, dirt or chemicals. For such areas, it is ideal to use tiles, which will add strength and resistance to mechanical stress on the surface.

    The main advantage of linoleum is its ability to give off heat, which is important for the dining area.

    In addition, it does not have as many threats as there are in the working part of the kitchen.

    Another plus of combined coatings is to save money. Linoleum and tiles have a low cost, unlike laminate and natural wood.

    These two materials are easy to work with., so the task of combining can be handled independently. The colors of the coatings are so diverse that you can easily choose the right tones.

    Installation rules

    Any job requires special training, and therefore starting the connection of tiles and linoleum, you must adhere to some rules. Without basic knowledge in the construction field and without skills in working with tools, it will not be possible to create the perfect floor.

    When choosing floor coverings, it is important to consider them color scheme. They can be of the same shade, or they can be contrasting with each other. It all depends on general style interior and purpose of materials.

    If the floor is planned to be multi-level, it is necessary to ensure a smooth transition. It should look as natural as possible and not be conspicuous.

    The height should be such that it does not cause discomfort when moving around the room.

    When installing floor coverings, you should carefully monitor the quality of fastening. It should be sufficiently reliable and even so that water and debris do not get into the cracks. Qualitatively done work guarantees the floor heat and sound insulation and water resistance.

    When buying connecting elements, it is important to pay close attention to their quality. If a threshold is selected, then you need to make sure that the fasteners are not visible, and its dimensions are equal to the specific requirements. The best option a T-shaped threshold is considered, which reliably combines linoleum and tiles and firmly fixes them to the surface.

    Docking methods

    The docking of linoleum and tiles can be carried out in several ways, which differ in the complexity of installation.

    Through the nut and profile

    An aluminum threshold will help connect the two materials. To do this, you only need to attach a connector with pre-drilled holes and drill it to the floor. But if the base consists of concrete, then you need to measure the attachment points, make holes, and then strengthen the plate with a dowel.

    You can purchase a threshold, which will consist of two slats. One of them should be fixed to the floor surface, and the other on top of the coating. In this case, only the lower bar is mounted, while the upper one is fixed with a special tool. This method is called hidden, as it allows you to hide the slice.

    Ceramic tile thicker than linoleum, so they must be leveled during installation.

    To do this, you can fill the floor with a solution to raise draft basis. But for this, it is necessary to carefully measure the distance in the place where the linoleum will be located, and pour the solution strictly up to a certain level.

    There is the simplest method of leveling the level - a substrate in the form of a sheet of plywood. For its installation, it is necessary to provide in advance a place for attaching the profile.

    To simplify the installation of the nut, you need to make a recess in the sheet, into which one end of the profile is subsequently inserted, and the other is fixed under the ceramics. This method is preferable for a beginner.

    The profiles can be fixed to the floor by point fixing. That is, not on the entire surface, but at a short distance (30-35 cm). If there are irregularities on it, then it is necessary to fix the profile on the floor at a distance of 20 cm.

    Adhesive connection

    Some find that the easiest way to secure two different flooring materials is with a sealant. However, it is not. To join linoleum with tiles, you will have to lay the coating so that the linoleum slightly covers the tile. As soon as both coatings are glued, you need to make a cardboard template that will repeat the shape of the joint. This template must be placed on the linoleum, traced with a pencil and carefully removed the excess.

    In the same way, a cut line of linoleum is applied to the tile, after which it is evenly cut.

    To facilitate the work, the sealant is applied a little short of the edges, and after the final trimming it is glued. This is especially important if the work is carried out in the corridor under the door.

    Regardless of the installation method, the joints still need to be glued. When they are completely ready, between them you need to apply an adhesive and wait until they dry. It is important to do everything carefully so that the glue is not visible on tiles. At the end of the work, all seams are ground with grout and the surface is cleaned.

    If when designing the floor in the room is selected combined option, it is important that both materials are in harmony with each other and with the environment. Thus, it will turn out to create a unique and cozy interior.

    You will learn more about how to make a junction of tiles and linoleum from the following video.

    Any homeowner needs to know how to connect linoleum, since this type of flooring is most common in our country. In this case, usually its installation is done independently, therefore, all responsibility for this operation falls on the owner of the premises. Considering all of the above, you need to know exactly how to connect the linoleum to each other, otherwise the whole impression of the repair you have carried out will be violated.

    Linoleum laying options

    Important! The solution to the question of how to connect two pieces of linoleum depends entirely on which method of laying it you choose.

    First you will need to decide what kind of linoleum you will use when carrying out repair work. In particular, they distinguish material intended for commercial and domestic use.

    The main difference between them is the thickness of the material. The same commercial linoleum is much thicker than domestic. As a result, joining two linoleums used in everyday life is much easier than the same pieces of commercial material. Therefore, even before the start of the repair, it will be necessary to decide what kind of material will be used in this case.

    Further, what will need to be decided before starting to lay linoleum is the way it is laid. There are only 2 of them: place sheets side by side or place one sheet on top of another. The last option has many disadvantages. These include the following circumstances:

    • poor contact between the top and bottom sheet, as a result of which the piece superimposed on top quickly peels off;
    • the joint in this case will not be even, since one of the sheets will bulge and interfere with walking on the floor;
    • while washing the floor, water will get into such a joint, then bottom sheet will begin to rot, as a result of which both the linoleum itself and the floor will be damaged.

    In connection with these circumstances, it would be best to use the first option, deciding how to connect the linoleum at the junction. If you join linoleum with edges, then you will achieve not only flat surface floor, but also protect the flooring from damage. At the same time, modern industry produces a wide range of various docking devices that will not only reliably protect the docking site, but also fit perfectly into general interior premises.

    If you know how to connect linoleum, and have decided on the type of such a connection, you will also need to decide in what form such a connection will be made. The fact is that before it was possible to connect sheets of linoleum only with straight edges, now you can given type make connections in the form of a zigzag, wave, as well as other geometric lines. As a result, you will be able to execute your flooring in the form that in the best possible way suitable for its look and color.

    Ways of joining sheets

    Important! Most masters, when deciding how to connect linoleum, it is necessary to take into account the tasks that this connection will have to solve.

    For example, they include:

    • creating a pleasant appearance of the floor covering;
    • ensuring the evenness of the floor, as well as smoothing it with a difference in height;
    • ensuring the protection of the floor from moisture, and the premises from noise coming from neighboring premises, as well as the basement and cellar.

    There are types of joints, based on the types of adhesive material used for this and other connection methods. Usually, the so-called cold and hot welding is used to perform work on connecting linoleum sheets. You can also solve the question of how to connect linoleum at the junction by using a special threshold. Usually this method is used when docking various kinds flooring such as linoleum and ceramic tiles.

    In this case, before using all of the listed methods of connecting linoleum, careful execution is necessary. preparatory work. These include:

    • cleaning dirt, stone chips and foreign objects from the floor;
    • elimination of irregularities;
    • sealing cracks in the floor.

    Sometimes soundproofing material is laid on the floor before laying linoleum. It cancels out noise coming from below and in turn prevents sounds from your room from penetrating down. If you are going to make a warm floor in the room, this will also require certain conditions to be met, for example, you will need to take a less thick sheet so that the linoleum does not rise too high above the thresholds of the interior doors.

    If you decide to combine different floor coverings in the same room, you will have to stock up on T-shaped sills. They allow you to solve the question of how to combine linoleum with other types of floor coverings. As for linoleum, the use of such thresholds in this case is justified only when this material has a relatively small thickness. If the linoleum used in your apartment is thicker, it is better to join its sheets by hot welding or using special glue.

    In any case, if you don't have great experience carrying out finishing and repair work, it is better for you to consult an experienced finisher before laying linoleum. He will tell you not only the way of joining, but will also show you with examples how to connect linoleum at the joints. This will guarantee the fulfillment quality work already by you.

    Cold welding of linoleum

    If you know how to connect linoleum to each other, and at the same time decide to use the cold welding method, you will need to choose the appropriate adhesive for these works, since cold welding is performed using adhesives. There are glue groups A and C. With their help, you can do everything Finishing work independently, unlike hot welding, which requires the use of special equipment. It is for this reason that such welding is used when laying exclusively commercial linoleum.

    As for glue, type A glue is usually common in everyday life. In order to make joints with it, it is necessary to clean them from dirt and dust, as well as from traces of any other contaminants. It is necessary to clean them very carefully and it even makes sense to rinse them.

    Next, using masking tape, it will be necessary to glue both sheets of linoleum so that it can completely close the seam with part of them. After that, the adhesive tape is cut exactly in the center and a tube with type A adhesive is opened. It is carefully applied to the adhesive tape in the cut area so that the height of the adhesive layer does not exceed 4 mm.

    After applying the glue, you will need to let it dry. Usually 15-20 minutes is enough for this. After that, the tape is removed and the glue is left to dry. It takes approximately 30 minutes for Type A adhesive to dry completely. By using construction knife you will need to clean the remnants of the adhesive tape from the linoleum.

    The second option for resolving the issue of how to connect pieces of linoleum is to use type C glue. If type A is usually used to install new linoleum, then the second type is needed in order to repair old linoleum. At the same time, mounting tape is not used here, since this type C adhesive has a thicker consistency.

    The technique of working with it is similar to the technique of working with the composition of type A, while it is more sensitive to various pollution and foreign inclusions, therefore, before using it, it is necessary to thoroughly wash both the linoleum and the floor itself.

    In any case, when working with glue, you must follow the safety rules. To do this, use special gloves and a mask. In addition, the premises where these works are performed must be well ventilated, otherwise you can get quite serious poisoning.

    Use of hot welding

    The second way, how to connect the seams of linoleum, is to use special equipment for working according to the hot welding method. At the same time, you should always remember that this method is good only when linoleum has a commercial purpose.

    If you are doing home renovation, then in this case the linoleum must be connected with glue.

    This circumstance is connected with the fact that hot welding takes place at a temperature of 300-450 ° C, domestic linoleum simply cannot withstand it. Since this type of flooring is usually used where there is a lot of foot traffic, it has a large thickness. Therefore, before welding, it must be well glued to the floor. After the glue dries, the next day it will be possible to start the main work.

    As for the description of the work itself, then for a start it will be necessary to lay the floor covering in such a way that the gap between its pieces is minimal. In such a gap, it will be necessary to make a groove for laying a special lace. It is with its help that the welding process will subsequently take place. Before this, the joint is thoroughly cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

    The welding itself is carried out directly with the help of a heat gun-hair dryer, into which a heat-shrink cord is tucked. The prepared thermal gun is taken in hand and a piece of this cord is carefully pressed along the entire length with its tip into the groove in order to tightly fix the cord in it. A similar procedure is carried out along the entire length of the thermal cord.

    After all the necessary manipulations have been completed, the excess cord is cut off in 2 approaches and sealed in one level with the floor covering. There are several nuances of such work. All of them are associated with the use of the described cord, which is available in several versions: for natural coating and for linoleum made of PVC.

    Fixing linoleum with adhesive tape is a waste of time, as this connection is short-lived

    Separately, it is necessary to dwell on such a topic as the use of various improvised materials for joining linoleum, for example, double-sided tape.

    The fact is that this option for attaching linoleum is considered the worst. But despite the speed of the work performed, the joint designed in this way is visible to the naked eye. In addition, it will not be airtight and dust and debris will constantly accumulate in it.

    It would be better to spend extra cash and perform all the work according to the technology of this process.

    Connection of linoleum with other materials

    Sometimes designers and homeowners use different floor coverings for interior decoration and decoration. In this case, when you do not know how to connect the laminate and linoleum, you will need to use a device such as a threshold. It can be placed on the transition between two adjacent rooms. If such an element is placed in the center of the room, it will look very ugly.

    As for the advantages of the nut, if necessary, for example, in the case of repair, it can be dismantled quite easily. In addition, the threshold allows you to walk freely without touching the linoleum. The materials from which it can be made are very different: metal, plastic, MDF. This allows you to choose such decorative element under the color of the floor.

    If the material is not cut in a straight line and you do not know how to connect linoleum with tiles, in this case a flexible profile will come to your aid. With it, you can connect surfaces of different levels of almost any configuration. The cork compensator, having a thickness of 1 cm, can also perform the same function, while it can change it under load to expand or contract. If you urgently need to join linoleum and tiles without any special aesthetic frills, you can do this with an ordinary sealant.

    As for the work on connecting floor materials using a T-shaped nut, it is usually installed on the floor. To do this, holes are drilled in it, dowels are hammered in, and the threshold is mounted using self-tapping screws. There is a hidden model of such a nut, consisting of 2 halves, one of which is attached to the floor.

    Since this part is able to dock different materials flooring only when they are on the same level, it is necessary to “bring them out” correctly, for this you can put a sheet of plywood under the same linoleum. If you follow all the steps in strict accordance with the instructions, you will get a beautiful and even floor.
