MDF panels do-it-yourself installation. DIY wall decoration with mdf panels. Dimensions of MDF - panels

Wooden plank every year it becomes more and more expensive. Already far from everyone can afford the decoration and furnishings of the premises from natural material. The choice, most often, falls on an inexpensive practical substitute.

MDF on the market building materials appeared a long time ago and quickly gained popularity. MDF has been carried out in Russia for several decades. You do not need to be a master of the highest rank in order to quickly and inexpensively give the room a new ennobled look. All you need is accuracy, accuracy and the initial skills of a home craftsman.

What are MDF?

This building material is produced by hot pressing of dry shredded waste from woodworking enterprises. Under the influence of steam, sawdust becomes soft and pliable. The smallest fibers, twisting, are connected to each other even without the intervention of gluing components. As a result, the structure of the panel becomes similar to felt, but compacted with enormous pressure. What do MDF panels look like visually? The photos used in the article will allow you to get an idea about them.

MDF boards do not differ in any heavy-duty characteristics, but due to the absence of adhesives in the composition, they are completely harmless. Panels can be mounted with any wood glue.

Tool used

Of course, you can’t foresee everything, but the main tool, which you can’t do without, should be at hand:

  1. Roulette. It is better to use a 5-meter copy.
  2. It can be made from an ordinary bundle with a nut tied at the end.
  3. Drill attachment. Great replacement for a screwdriver.
  4. Metal locksmith's square with various legs. It is useful for cutting slopes.
  5. Electric jigsaw or any hacksaw with fine teeth. It is desirable to have two hacksaws - with a transverse and longitudinal gash.
  6. Bulgarian for cutting metal profiles, if the frame will be assembled from them. The tool must have a protective cover.
  7. The usual tools that every owner should have: a knife, screwdrivers, a pencil or marker, a set of drills, a hammer, small nails (shoe nails).

Preparatory work

Before attaching MDF panels, you will have to spend a lot preparatory work. It is necessary for the reliability of fasteners. FROM wooden surfaces everything is clear - here the installation process is much easier to conduct. Difficulties arise with brick walls.

First of all, you need to remove the plinth. It is better to remove swollen or crumbling plaster completely, to the base. Will be immediately noticeable hidden defects capital walls that need to be removed.

Mounting process

Finishing with MDF panels is carried out in two ways:

1) using glue;

2) installation of a rigid frame.

The frame is assembled from wood or special MDF (this is made of thin metal).

It is easier and cheaper to make a crate from. Although the entire frame will subsequently need to be treated with a fire-fighting composition. This will also take certain time. Wall panels are attached to the rails with the help of clamps (another name is clips). The slats themselves are located perpendicular to the wall panels.

Frame method

So, let's consider how to fix MDF panels. Depending on the size of the boards, the number of rows of slats will be different. In a standard room, where the ceiling height does not exceed 2.5 m, 4-5 runs along the entire wall will suffice. The main thing is that after installation, the panels should stand tightly, and not “play” after any touch.

The top bar of the frame is attached 15-20 cm below the ceiling. At the same distance from the floor, the lower bar is fixed. The middle frame slats are placed in equal proportions between the extreme bars. It is desirable that the distance between the planks does not exceed 50-60 cm. Also, do not forget about fastening the frame around the perimeter around windows and doors.

Where the panel has a groove, a clamp is attached. Having tried on the upper and lower elements and making sure that the wall board is level, the extreme clips are fixed on the slats with self-tapping screws. After that, the rest of the fasteners are added - according to the number of frame runs. The subsequent board is inserted into the groove of the first panel with its spike and is also fixed with clips on all the planks.

Do not forget that the very first panel is rigidly fastened along all rails to self-tapping screws from the side of the spike. The edge board, which is rarely intact, is also tightly attached. All traces of installation are usually hidden behind decorative corners. Great option in this case- MDF profile. He fits in organically. overall design premises.

Adhesive way

Another way to fix MDF panels requires a perfectly flat and clean wall. The bearing surface can be any - plywood, concrete, brick or plasterboard. Panels are glued more often on "liquid nails". This adhesive is suitable for any surface.

This method of installation has serious disadvantages. Demolition is difficult. The board keeps breaking. To level the wall, you have to clean up the remnants of hardened glue, and this is quite difficult.

Replacing multiple wall boards new ones will also cause a lot of problems. The entire remaining wall can rear up, lose all harmony, and, accordingly, an attractive appearance.

Besides, inner part MDF boards are not treated with a water-repellent composition, and in case of getting wet bearing wall the panel will swell over time, and it will begin to warp.

Which way is better?

If the height of the walls is large or the laying of MDF panels is decided to be done horizontally, along the length of the room, it is better frame version. This method also provides for wall insulation, however, this will slightly reduce the volume of the room. A similar method is useful in the case when there is a large surface roughness.

Rooms with low ceilings and smooth walls faster and cheaper to "ennoble" adhesive method. Here, the loss in room size will be minimal.

It is worth deciding on the performers of the upcoming work. Installation of MDF panels consists not only of the direct installation of the boards themselves. Before starting work, it is necessary to determine the amount of purchased material and fasteners. It is necessary to remember that there are certain nuances that ordinary person, to the layman, may be unknown. In the future, finishing the walls with MDF panels will take time, in proportion to your experience.

Pre-treatment and repair of the main walls also require some knowledge and skills. The solution suggests itself - it is better to entrust the repair to professionals.

Now you have an idea about how to fix MDF panels. There is nothing cunning and daunting in such work, but the master, of course, will make it both better and faster. However, it all depends on the thickness of the wallet and the size of your experience in carrying out such work. The choice is yours.

Wall cladding with MDF panels is an affordable and easy way to decorate living spaces.

The finishing material has a decent attractive appearance, has excellent heat and noise insulation properties, and do-it-yourself installation of MDF panels is not very difficult.

Interior decoration of walls with MDF panels is carried out by two main methods: on the crate and directly on the wall surface. Preference for one or another finishing option is based on the condition of the walls in the room and the conditions of its operation.

Wireframe method

The essence of the method is to fasten MDF finishing boards to a pre-built crate. It is used in several cases:

  • the surface of the wall is uneven and there is no way to eliminate the defect;
  • the room needs heat or sound insulation;
  • there is a need to hide engineering Communication– wiring, for example, located on the walls.

Finishing materials

Using the frame method, it is allowed to mount MDF panels on a wall of any form factor - slatted lamellas, wall panels and decorative sheets. Both the appearance of the slab, and the thickness of the panel, and the quality are determined not by the installation method, but by the functionality of the room.

  1. Form Factor

The most commonly used rack material, because thanks to the tongue-and-groove docking, its installation is simple and does not take much time.

Sheathing with tile and sheet panels is more difficult, as it is associated with the need to comply with a certain pattern.

  1. Thickness.

Plates are produced with a thickness of 6 mm for rack, and 3 mm for sheet products. For finishing the walls of premises with severe operating conditions, it is recommended to choose MDF panels of the maximum thickness.

  1. Moisture resistance.

Moisture resistant MDF panels are used for finishing the bathroom, toilet and kitchen.

Tools and Consumables

  • MDF boards - lath, panel, sheet.
  • Universal corner made of fiberboard - used in the design of corners.
  • - if thermal insulation work is carried out.
  • Perforator, jigsaw, knife.
  • Square and rule, kapron thread.
  • "Liquid nails" or other wood glue.
  • Wood screws - from 40 to 80 mm, plastic dowels or corks - for fastening the crate.
  • Nails, clamps with a tongue of the required height, glue - depending on the chosen method of installing the panel.

Preparatory stage

  1. Because in the process mounting MDF panels on a metal frame or wooden crate is not performed, then its preparation is reduced to cleaning from dust and dirt. However, if there are large cracks, they should be closed.
  2. The wiring is retracted into pipes from the corrugation.
  3. With a general high level of humidity in the apartment, surface treatment with an antiseptic primer is recommended.

The thermal expansion coefficient of MDF products is low, but the moisture resistance is low, so the material should be kept indoors for 2-3 days in order to equalize the humidity of the plate and the air.

With a small sheet thickness - 3-6 mm, this stage can be neglected, with a large one - 16-20 mm, exposure is necessary.

Fabrication and installation of crates

The frame is made of wooden bars with a section of 20 × 40 mm, or a galvanized profile. Both solutions have their advantages.

Wooden crate - much easier to install, does not require a large number hardware, and is characterized by the ability to absorb and release moisture at a level close to MDF boards.

However, the material requires additional processing. antiseptics and does not exclude the possibility of destruction under the action of moisture.

The metal frame is highly durable and resistant to moisture.

Mounting MDF panels on a metal profile provides a rigid fastening, which prevents the panels from elongating. In rooms with noticeable changes in temperature and humidity, such as loggias, this leads to warping of the finish.

Since, with the exception of special moisture-resistant ones, they are also not resistant to moisture, you should not build a frame that is more durable than the sheathing itself.

Installation of lathing for MDF panels: detailed instructions

Lamellas can be arranged horizontally, vertically or diagonally. A pattern can be formed from square panels. In any case, the mounting directions of the battens and MDF panels must be perpendicular to each other.

The diagonal method of laying panels is more material-intensive.

Most often, vertical installation of the finish is used, as it provides a minimum of waste.

  1. The most convex place is determined on the wall surface - its height is a control point.

The frame rail must pass through the top of the bulge.

  1. The recommended pitch is 40-60 cm. With a large sheet, the pitch can be increased.

The possibility of increasing is checked as follows: if the panel, when pressed by hand between the rails, slightly bends, then the change is permissible.

  1. The wall is marked with a pencil.

In this case, it is desirable to place the bottom bar as close to the floor as possible: a plinth is attached to it.

  1. The rail is installed first at the most convex place.

The bar is placed on the marked line, a hole is drilled in the wall through the bar with a puncher. The depth of the hole is calculated in such a way that the self-tapping screw is in the main wall by at least 30-40 mm. The fastening step is at least 60 cm.

  1. First of all, the rail is fixed at the top of the bulge - close to the wall, and then with opposite end, pre-set by level.
  2. To check the plane of the bar from one to the other end of the wall, a thread is stretched and fixed on self-tapping screws in level, a match is placed between the cap and the thread.

Correction of the fastening of the rail is carried out using wedges, the thickness of which is determined by the magnitude of the deviation of the fastening depth compared to the control point.

  1. Blanks for wedges are cut from the rail and trimmed with a knife in the course of work.

It is allowed to use pieces of plywood.

  1. The second rail, usually lower, is installed in the same way: the ends are fixed in level, and the rest of the fastening is adjusted along the thread.
  2. The following frame elements are mounted as follows: the rule is applied to the fixed rails, and the next bar is set in a plane with the first two.

It is forbidden to attach any objects to the MDF panel. However, it is quite possible to hang a mirror in the hallway if the MDF wall panels are mounted on a frame.

Wall cladding with MDF panels

Sheathing is started after the construction of the frame.

Mounting methods:

  • Glue.

The adhesive composition is applied to the panel in the areas of fixation to the crate. Suitable for thin slabs;

  • Mechanical fastening with staples, nails or self-tapping screws.

Provides secure fixation but does not compensate for thermal elongation. The method is recommended for rooms with stable temperature and humidity indicators;

  • Fastening with clamps.

The clip is put on the edge of the panel, and attached to the crate with nails. This is the most recommended option.

Installation sequence

  1. Slatted slats and universal corners are cut to length with a jigsaw or hacksaw. The edges are sanded.
  2. Installation can be started from any corner of the room.
  1. The first lamella is fixed in such a way that the edge with the ridge is directed towards the corner, and the gap between the wall and the sheathing board is 2–3 mm.

From the side of the crest, the lamella is fixed with screws to the rails, and from the side of the groove, a clamp is put on the edge and fastened. When docking, fasteners are hidden by the crest of the next element.

The next panels are inserted with a comb into the groove of the previous one and fixed with clamps.

  1. The last panel, as a rule, needs to be adjusted.

The plate is tried on, the required width is determined, an extra fragment is cut off. Then the element is inserted, and in the corner it is also fixed with self-tapping screws.

  1. The corners and the upper edge are finished with a universal corner.

Design of sockets and switches

When decorating walls with MDF panels in such areas, it is necessary:

  • try on the panel and mark the location of the outlet;
  • cut a hole of the appropriate diameter;
  • fix two bars in parallel on the wall so that the future socket can be installed on them;
  • fix the MDF board to the crate.

Frameless method: do-it-yourself sheathing

The method is implemented when the walls of the room have a flat surface, or if one of the repair tasks is their careful alignment. Any MDF products can be used, but more often by this method

Training

Before proceeding with the installation of MDF panels on glue, the surface is cleaned and primed. Most often, a primer with an antiseptic effect is used.

Rack lamellas are cut into desired height, the corner is also cut off, the edges are processed sandpaper. Square panels adjusted after fitting.

Adhesives used

The adhesive composition must meet two requirements:

  • After drying, maintain some plasticity, for the perception of thermal expansion of the material.
  • Possess a dense structure, which would make it possible to apply glue both in a thin and thick layer. This property makes it possible to attach the panel qualitatively even in cases where the wall surface is curved.

The most commonly used are "Liquid Nails" and "Installation Moment", but there may be other options - "MitreFix", "Crystal Moment".

Cladding installation: sequence of actions

  1. Sheathing is recommended to start from the corner towards the window opening.
  2. On the wall, horizontal and vertical markings are made according to the size of the panels.
  3. Glue is applied to the back of the slab in zigzag stripes.
  4. The panel is easily pressed against the wall and immediately removed.

After 2-5 minutes, it is fixed tightly. Thus, a stronger connection is achieved. The first lamella must be checked with a vertical level.

  1. Laying of plates is carried out end-to-end or overlapped.
  2. In areas where it is planned to install sockets and switches, holes are pre-drilled in the panel.
  3. The corners and the upper edge are closed with a universal corner, the lower one with a plinth.

Finishing nuances: processing of joints and corners

To finish the corners, a universal corner is used. It consists of two plates made of chipboard and connected on the front side with a film.

The strips can be bent both inward and outward, which allows the element to be used to decorate any corners.

  1. The corner is cut to the desired length. Docking, if the design of the upper edge is made, is made at an angle of 45 degrees.
  2. Landing on glue is recommended in two stages: light pressing so that the composition is distributed both on the lining and on the surface of the corner, and then tight with pressure.
  3. The remains of the glue, if they still appear, are cut off with a paint knife after complete solidification. They are difficult to remove with a cleaning agent or solvent.

In exactly the same way, the joints are finished, if such a need arose. However, in this case, it is necessary to carefully select the element by color.

Finishing MDF boards does not apply to work high level complexity and requires not so much experience as thoroughness of implementation.

From the point of view of aesthetics, it is not recommended to trim both the ceiling and the walls of the room with tiles at the same time. Styles that suggest such a solution are not implemented in city apartments. But for a balcony or loggia, this is quite an acceptable option.

MDF panels are an excellent decorative finishing material, which is characterized by high installation speed and the absence of the need for “wet” work at all stages of finishing.

They have panels and their drawbacks (for example, MDF, like any wood, is afraid of water and high humidity, is less resistant to mechanical damage compared to synthetic materials, work to restore damage to it is associated with a number of difficulties, etc.).

The fastening of MDF panels depends on the type of base and the desired result. The most common type of fastening is mechanical (on the base, a frame is often equipped with wooden or metal rails, to which MDF panels are attached with nails, self-tapping screws or kleimers) and chemical - using adhesive compositions.

The last method assumes an even monolithic base, since there is no frame made of profiles or guides in this case.

Glue for MDF - an overview of the best options

The most commonly used adhesives for MDF panels are:

  • Liquid Nails . Universal adhesive, which is characterized by high adhesion, resistance to corrosion and moisture. Liquid nails do not react with bases, unlike deep-penetrating adhesives.
  • Mounting (or building) foam. It is characterized by various properties such as thermal insulation, sound insulation and high adhesion.
  • Universal construction adhesive. A wide group of products, divided into many segments and areas of application. For MDF panels, it is necessary to use only those adhesives that provide adhesion to the base materials (brick, concrete, drywall, tiles, etc.) and wood (MDF consists of fine sawdust).

The most popular adhesive for MDF panels is liquid nails (TYTAN or TITEBOND Multi).

Apart from economic effect when choosing an adhesive, it is necessary to take into account the specifics of working with it (time for primary fixation, final drying time, method of application, service life, essential tool and materials, etc.).

Mounting MDF panels on glue - instructions

Consider the technology of mounting MDF using the adhesive compositions indicated above.

Liquid Nails(similar universal building adhesives). The thickness of the adhesive layer is only 3-5 mm, so the base on which the panels will be glued must be perfectly even. Otherwise, the panels will repeat all the irregularities of the walls or peel off in places of loose fit.

Therefore, before gluing the MDF panels to the wall, it must be leveled.

  1. Degrease the surface, remove all contaminants, putty crumbling areas.
  2. Before starting work, you need to make sure that there are no irregularities with the help of building rule, long level, or other instrument.
  3. The glue is applied in wave-like movements or in another way (for example, in dotted large drops) so that it is evenly distributed over the width and length of the panel. The pitch between the adhesive strips determines the force with which the panel will adhere to the base. That is, for example, when installed in places of greatest load, the frequency of application can be increased. Usually this is 10-15 cm. If the manufacturer specifies a waiting time before gluing, the required pause must be maintained.
  4. Using a construction bubble or laser level the launch panel is installed at the desired angle (depending on the intended pattern and mounting direction). Most commonly used vertical installation panels. Start from the corner.
  5. The adhesive on the first panel must have time to grab the base before installing subsequent ones (the same principle applies to other difficult junction points, for example, internal or outside corners). The setting time depends on the type of adhesive (see instructions).
  6. Thanks to the tongue-and-groove connection, subsequent panels can be mounted without waiting (except for the waiting time before gluing).

Corners (internal or external), as well as horizontal and vertical junctions without a tongue-and-groove connection, are covered with decorative moldings (universal MDF corners). Glue should be applied to the middle of each side of the decorative corner (so that excess glue does not come out when pressed).

The main thing is not to damage the decorative layer of the panels.

Option 2. Mounting foam.

The technology of mounting MDF panels using construction foam in many respects it is similar to the installation technology using liquid nails or universal glue, with the only difference that the error of wall irregularities using foam can be higher due to a significant increase in foam volume.

The waiting time before gluing the MDF board to the base depends on the requirements of the foam manufacturer.

VIDEO INSTRUCTION

Basic installation errors

For liquid nails:

  • Do not overexpose the adhesive before mounting the panel on the base. Otherwise, adhesion will be significantly lower.
  • Incorrect application of glue - MDF panels will lose their attractive appearance if glue gets on the decorative front surface.
  • Wiping off excess adhesive with a highly damp cloth may cause peeling of the decorative coating.

For mounting foam:

  • For gluing, use foam with a low shrinkage coefficient and professional tool(high-quality guns for construction foam can smoothly and strictly dosed regulate its supply).
  • If you do not wait for the setting time of the first panel, then during the movement of subsequent panels, the foam may collapse and not be fixed on the base.

The question is why it is impossible to glue MDF on liquid nails

Glue "liquid nails" is distinguished by its versatility. It is suitable for mounting a large number variety of building materials. And if “wood” is listed in the list of materials to be glued, then liquid nails are not only possible, but must also be used for gluing MDF panels.

Often, ordinary people can confuse “liquid nails” glue with sealants or silicones (they are applied using the same tool, the tube is very similar to the tube of liquid nails and they can be on the same shelf in the store).

However, sealants for gluing MDF panels are not recommended, since their main purpose is to fix sanitary ware and seal joints.

MDF panels are very popular in the field of interior design. Consumer interest in this finishing material is due to its low cost, excellent decorative qualities and environmental friendliness. Another important advantage is that wall cladding with MDF panels does not require any special building knowledge and skills, therefore, there is an opportunity to save on the services of professional craftsmen. All work can be easily done with your own hands, you just need to show elementary accuracy and prepare necessary set tools.

Purchase of finishing materials and additional elements

Before buying panels, it is necessary to make measurements of the room, the finishing of which will be carried out. When typing material, one should be guided not only by the quadrature of the surfaces, but also by the dimensions of the panels themselves, taking into account possible waste. Count also the number of external and internal corners indoors to purchase special finishing corners to match the color of the selected panels.

The finishing corners are thin MDF strips, pressed with a protective and decorative film. Folding along, they form an internal or outer corner any radius. Finishing with laminated corners allows you to hide corner connections panels and give a finished look to the room.

Apart from finishing materials it is also necessary to acquire wooden slats or special metal profiles for mounting the crate. The choice of these materials will depend on the layout of the room itself.

Sheathing of internal partition walls is carried out without additional insulation, so for crates are quite suitable wooden bars 50x40 mm. If it is supposed to finish the outer walls, then it is more expedient to purchase metal CD and UD profiles or a 40x40 beam, which will create space for the location heat-insulating material in the gap between the wall and the panels. In the case of using profiles, you will also need special U-shaped brackets.

The number of elements for the crate is calculated based on the fact that the distance between them should be an average of 0.4-0.5 m. In addition, it is necessary to stock up on screws of the appropriate length for mounting the crate, as well as self-tapping screws, clamps or staplers wooden) for fixing panel strips. You will also need socket boxes (drywall mounting boxes) if there is a need to install a switch or outlet, and glue for decorative corners(for example, liquid nails).

However, all these additional elements may not be needed if internal walls have a perfectly flat surface and it is not expected to dismantle the panels after a short period of time. In this case, their installation can be performed simple way gluing. Liquid mounting nails are perfect for this purpose.

A set of tools for wall cladding with MDF panels with your own hands

  • screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver (for self-tapping screws);
  • puncher (for making holes in concrete walls) or drill (for plaster, wood, brick and other walls);
  • locksmith's square (for precise marking corners);
  • sawing tool for MDF panels and slats: electric jigsaw (with fine wood sawing), hand-held circular saw or conventional hand saw with fine teeth (you can use a hacksaw);
  • grinder or scissors for metal (for cutting metal profiles);
  • any type building level or a homemade plumb line for the correct vertical mounting panels;
  • furniture stapler (if necessary).

Installation technology

MDF panels are rigid strips of a certain thickness, width and length, having interlock connections. With the use of this material, it is impossible to perform radius bends. They can only sheathe flat surfaces (walls, ceilings, slopes).

If the installation of the panels with your own hands will be carried out on the crate, no special training walls are not required, i.e. cleanse them of old paint, plaster or wallpaper is not necessary.

Manufacturing of crates

Initially, it is required to determine the so-called control point. To do this, it is necessary to examine the wall for protruding sections. The most protruding place will play the role of a starting point, focusing on which, the elements of the crate are fixed to the level.

Depending on the design ideas, panel strips can be arranged vertically, horizontally or diagonally, and the installation of rails or profiles is carried out in a perpendicular direction to the panels.

Reiki or beams are fixed in increments of 40-50 cm. It is not recommended to increase the distance between them, because. the structure will lose rigidity and may bend. If there are height differences on the surface, use linings of the required thickness to level the depressions.

Properly made metal frame

The technology for arranging the lathing from profiles is somewhat different from the "wooden" version. In this case, a frame of UD profiles is initially mounted along the perimeters of each of the walls. The distance from the wall surface must correspond to the thickness of the insulation. Then the locations of the transverse CD profiles are marked. U-shaped brackets are attached along the marking line with a step of about 40 cm. CD profiles are inserted into the starting UD profiles, after which they are fixed with brackets using metal screws.

Paneling

If the project provided for the thermal insulation of the wall, then immediately between the elements of the crate, strips of insulation are laid and fixed. Along the way, inside the structure, electrical cables are laid and they are brought out of the crate, so that after the installation of the panels, their length will allow connecting sockets or switches.

Installation of panels starts from the corner and continues along the wall surface. Each previous strip is carefully attached to the details of the crate through the tongue groove, after which the next panel is inserted into the lock. If the last strip does not fit entirely in width, it will have to be cut off. Fasteners are made along the edge, so that subsequently the fasteners can hide the decorative corner.

In places where sockets and switches will be located, holes are made in the course of work using special nozzle on the drill, into which the wires are output.

To fasten the panels to the crate, several methods are used:

Finishing the room with MDF panels using adhesive method is carried out by point or zigzag application of special glue on the entire area of the strip. Before sticking the panels, the walls must be treated with a deep-penetrating primer and allowed to dry. A few seconds after applying the adhesive, the strip is carefully pressed and fixed to the wall.

All of the above technologies are applicable to the arrangement of slopes. If the slopes are small, then it will be enough to build a crate frame around the perimeter, without transverse elements.

On the last step the finishing of the outer and inner corners of the room is carried out with finishing decorative corners, for fixing which glue is used. Corners can also be placed along the perimeter of the ceiling instead of the ceiling frieze.

At the locations of electrical outlets, special boxes are mounted and sockets or switches are installed.

Methods for fixing MDF to the wall and ceiling, which glue is applicable for attaching panels. Fastening to a metal crate, and how to do it wooden frame.

MDF panel how to attach to the wall

MDF panels are attractive in their appearance. Wide selection allows them to be used in various premises for creating unique interior. They have many positive aspects with a minimum of shortcomings. However, after deciding to clad the surface, the question arises: “ MDF panel how to attach to the wall? The cladding methods are described below.

What is MDF panels for interior decoration: advantages and disadvantages

The material is made from fibreboard. Submission high temperature and the use of resins perform the pressing of wood chips. This technology allows you not to use glue, which includes toxic substances. Therefore, the panels are an environmentally friendly facing material.

MDF is produced in three types:

  1. Laminate - repeats the pattern of wood, marble and other materials.
  2. Veneer - made from chips valuable breeds wood.
  3. Lacquered panels.

Material Features:

  1. Ease of fixing to the surface. Fixation is carried out on frame base and for glue.
  2. Additional protection against noise and extraneous sounds.
  3. There is an option for leveling and warming the surface with an attractive appearance.
  4. Concealment of communications and wires.
  5. Simple care.

Negative sides of the cladding:

  • when hanging objects on lined walls, you must use a fisher-anchor;
  • many types of material do not tolerate constant exposure to moisture;
  • material is on fire.

In spite of negative sides, using panels create Beautiful design rooms, balconies and corridors.

MDF panel: wall mounting methods

There are 2 methods to attach the cladding to the rough surface. Each of them has its own characteristics.

Fixation on the frame base. The cladding is attached to a metal or wooden crate. To do this, you do not need to carry out a thorough alignment of the walls, but you need to make markings and prepare the material.

Adhesive fastening of panels. To do this, the adhesive solution must meet a number of requirements relevant to this work. Otherwise, the panels will fall off.

The cladding is attached to:

  • adhesive solution;
  • liquid Nails;
  • mounting foam.

Positive aspects of this method:

  1. Installation time. Putting the cladding on a flat surface is faster than creating a frame base and then fixing the material.
  2. No screws are needed for fastening.

Flaws:

  1. Do not attach panels to curved surfaces. The wall needs to be level.
  2. If 1 element is damaged, then the entire surface must be replaced.
  3. It is impossible to insulate the wall and hide communications there.

Knowing the installation features, there is accuracy in choosing the fastening of the cladding.

Mounting to the wall on a wooden crate

The wooden frame is built in a dry room. To do this, use treated wood.

Advantages:

  • installation is easier than a metal frame;
  • for the frame base, rails of the same section are needed;
  • wood is an environmentally friendly material.

Flaws:

  • not mounted in wet rooms;
  • do not use raw bars;
  • the tree is prone to small rodents and bugs.

Despite these disadvantages, well-treated and dried wood lasts a long time without deforming.

Sheathing with a metal profile

The metal crate is made using profiles. They are used to create a frame base in wet rooms, because the profile is covered with an anti-corrosion material.

Advantages of metal construction:

  • no need to level the surface to create a frame;
  • under metal structure hide all communications;
  • produce wall insulation;
  • if the panel is damaged, it is possible to replace it without dismantling the entire surface.

Disadvantages of the design of the galvanized profile:

  1. The area of the room is reduced.
  2. If you need to hang an object on the surface, use anchors that can withstand the load.

To create a profile crate, you need to make additional costs.

Mounting on the wall without crates and frame with glue

Panels are attached to adhesive base only if the surface does not have a deviation from the level and there are no significant defects.

Advantages of landing lining on glue:

  1. Installation time. The minimum time spent on the installation of the cladding.
  2. No additional costs for fasteners.
  3. The space of the room, corridor is not reduced.

Negative sides:

  • there is no way to hide communications. For wiring, you need to ditch the wall;
  • there is no possibility of laying a waterproofing insulation;
  • do not apply this method in bathrooms due to dampness;
  • in case of damage to one panel, it is necessary to dismantle the entire surface.

To choose the method of fastening the panels, you need to calculate everything and take into account external factors such as humidity, temperature changes.

The sequence of works for finishing MDF panels with your own hands

For the selected creation method flat surface using the frame, it is necessary to carry out a series of works in the following sequence:

  1. Measurements and calculation for purchase required amount material.
  2. Wood processing in case the frame is made of bars.
  3. Primer surface treatment. In some cases, spatula.
  4. Marking on the rough surface for mounting an even and durable frame.
  5. Lathing installation.
  6. Panel fastening.

The sequence of work with the adhesive method:

  1. Evaluation of the surface for evenness.
  2. Priming of the rough base.
  3. Markup for the first panel.
  4. Cutting material to desired length.
  5. Applying glue.
  6. Cladding fixing.
  7. Fastening corners and slats.

Properly done work will guarantee a long service life of a beautiful appearance.

Fastening without crates with self-tapping screws: instructions for use

Panels without crates are fixed with screws only to a wooden wall. If the surface is made of another material, there is no need to risk it, because due to the movement of the soil and the movement of the building, the self-tapping screws will loosen over time. The panels will loosen and lose their appearance.

How to install MDF wall panels in the kitchen: fastening without rails

glue method. The surface must be smooth, dry and clean. The rough base is primed, markings are made for the first panel. The material is cut to the desired length. The adhesive is applied with a notched trowel. When gluing panels, you must use a level. Evenness is mainly checked in the corners. After installation, the surface is wiped with a damp microfiber from dust and glue residue.

What is better to fix: glue or liquid nails?

Each material used has its pros and cons.

Mounting foam, drying, expands. In this case, the surface of the cladding may bend. But, it will hold the rough base and panel together for a long time. If the material is damaged, dismantling will take a long time. It is used in damp rooms and with sudden changes in temperature.

Universal glue - use a type that fastens the rough base (concrete, brick) and wooden elements.

Liquid nails are suitable for bonding wooden elements to other substrates. Has many positive aspects:

  • there is a possibility of application in damp rooms;
  • fast setting with the surface;
  • long service life;
  • adhesive strength.

The negative side is its considerable amount with large areas.

How to glue to a concrete wall: mounting

The glue must have the following set of properties:

  1. Woodwork.
  2. Quality assurance for gluing concrete and wood.
  3. Freeze quickly.
  4. Moisture resistant.
  5. Alkali resistance.

Types of adhesive for cladding installation:

  1. Compounds. Universal material- "Titan", "Moment".
  2. A special series - "liquid nails", "macroflex".
  3. Mounting foam.

Glue is applied in a small dotted line on MDF surface, wait the time specified by the manufacturer (if necessary) and apply to the surface.

Errors in working with liquid nails» — no need to overstay the time before fixing. The grip will decrease. Further, if the agent is not wiped off on the surface of the panel in time, the appearance is spoiled.

Foam mistakes. You need to use a construction pistol.

Cladding on metal frame structures

Fixing MDF to metal frame produced with clasps. They are attached to the profile with small screws. When buying a kit, you need to pay attention to the package. If there are not screws in the package, but nails (on a wooden frame), then the “bugs” are purchased separately.

Metal profile frame set

The frame base does not differ from the crate for drywall. To do this, the surface is primed, markup is made.

The guide profiles are fixed first. Everything is level checked. NPs are fixed with dowel-nails. And they also attach hangers for the rack profile.

The mounting pitch of the rack rail is 60 cm. If transverse rails are used for rigidity, their mounting pitch is the same. Fasteners for panels are attached to the rack profile.

Beacons

These are the main slats in the crate. They are attached according to the markup. After determining a single plane on the wall at the corners on the ceiling and floor, dowel-nails are fixed with NP. Fixation must be mirrored. For evenness, the threads are pulled and the plumb line is lowered. A laser level is also used.

Sheet fasteners

MDF is fastened from the corner of the crate. It goes in this order:

  1. Measure and cut the first panel.
  2. In it (if necessary) cut a hole for lighting fixtures.
  3. The panel attached to the corner, on the one hand, is fixed with self-tapping screws. With other clips.
  4. Subsequent panels are fixed with locks and clasps.
  5. Ceiling and floor plinths attached with glue.
  6. The last step is fixing the finishing corner. It closes the screws in the corners. Fix them with glue.

After the work done, the entire surface is wiped with a damp cloth.

How to sheathe on a wooden crate

A wooden crate is simpler than a metal one. MDF is fixed with tongue and groove locks. To do this, use small "shoe" carnations.

How to attach rails

Wooden slats are attached to the base according to the markings made. To do this, use dowel-nails - a concrete, brick base, or self-tapping screws - a wooden base.

What is the spacing between rails?

After fixing the main guides, stepping back from the floor and from the ceiling 40-60 cm, horizontal (vertical direction of the panels) or vertical slats are fixed. The step between them is 40-60 cm. Each mount will be checked with a level for evenness.

Sheet mounting

MDF is fixed from the corner. The first panel is fixed with self-tapping screws to the wooden lath of the frame. Subsequent sheets are connected with clasps. Panels should fit snugly and flat against the frame. If there are protrusions wooden slats, they are cut with a planer or knife.

What is the best way to mount MDF sheets on the ceiling

MDF ceiling is called suspended. because the best way consider the fixation on the frame base.

The crate is made of wood and metal profile. It is no different from creating a standard crate. The mounting step of the rails is 40-60 cm.

Sheathed Surface Finish

After fixing the cladding, it is necessary to glue the corners and dividing rails. Their fixation is carried out with liquid nails.

Be careful not to get glue on the front side of the material. Appearance will be spoiled.

If the mixture gets on the panel, it is immediately wiped with a damp cloth.

Care

The panels are not washed with products containing acids. Also do not use powders.

It is necessary to apply once a month a means for general cleaning. Once a week, the surface is wiped with a soft microfiber soaked in water at room temperature without chemicals.

Steam cannot be used. When directing the jet from the steam generator, the panels will immediately lose their original appearance and deform.

The panels are fixed on a frame base - which is more durable and on glue - in rooms without fumes and sudden changes temperature. Surface care does not require expensive tools and efforts.
