Mounting polypropylene pipeline so simple that you can easily do it even in between watching your favorite TV shows or series. The main thing is to stick to some general rules and understand the basic principles of joining plastic pipes. I will tell you all this from my own experience.

Installation work

Starting to work with polypropylene pipes, I first of all remembered their main qualities:

  • The low price allowed me, without much abuse of family budget purchase all the necessary plastic products, including connection fittings, with some margin. After all, even with the appropriate experience, no one is immune from making mistakes, and it is better to have replacement parts at hand in case of an unsuccessful operation, and not run after them to the store, leaving an unfinished pipeline and an unfinished series;

  • A simple connection instruction including "hot" and "cold" methods. But simplicity does not preclude the need for the presence of a special tool for each of the options. In what follows, I will describe both of them in detail, since different areas I used both soldering and compression fittings. It is better for you to make a choice in advance in order to take care of the availability of appropriate equipment. You can do it right after reading the article;
  • No corrosive processes. The plastic surface is not subject to either internal corrosion, which can be provoked by the transported liquid, or external, which usually appears after the pipeline is laid in the ground. Thus, laying underground plumbing, I knew that it would last decades, but only taking into account the quality and absolute connections.

If you are planning to use polypropylene pipes for the installation of a heating system, I recommend purchasing reinforced samples that can withstand high temperatures, which will eliminate the risk of an emergency.

Based on the foregoing, I purchased materials with a margin, took out the right tools and prepared to make quality connections that can be left unattended for years to come.

hot method

Where I planned to lower the water supply line underground, I had no doubts about the choice of the connection method: only soldering. The melting point of propylene is only 260 degrees Celsius, and after solidification are formed fully sealed seams. In addition, the process itself is quite fast. The impossibility of dismantling me in this case didn't care at all.

When laying pipelines indoors, welding is also excellent. The only exceptions can be those areas where disassembly of pipes is required, or a situation in which it is not at all possible to get a pipe soldering iron.

If you have a one-time installation planned, then it is not necessary to purchase an expensive welding machine for plastic pipes, it would be more rational to rent it.

Before connecting polypropylene pipes using the “hot” method, in addition to the “iron”, I also prepared the following tools:

Now I will describe to you in detail how polypropylene pipes are connected, you really will have time to install small sections during the period of scrolling commercials on TV:

If this is your first time trying to solder plastic pipes, then I recommend that you first practice on a couple of products that will not be included in the system being installed.
So you "fill your hand" and can avoid typical mistakes when performing "finishing" work.

  1. Training:
    • I took out a soldering iron from a suitcase where he was, and placed it on a level and stable oak table. You can put the device on the floor or on the asphalt, the main thing is that it has a reliable position, because you have to deal with high temperatures;

    • Then inserted nozzles corresponding to the diameters of the elements to be soldered. At the same time, a product is installed under the pipe in the form of a kind of “bowl”, which wraps around its edge with outside, and under the tubular element that enters it and performs melting from the inside;

    • Turned on the device. If your device has a power regulator, then set it to 260-270 degrees Celsius. If this is not the case, then the unit will automatically heat up to the specified temperature;

  1. Markup. Here I have already moved on to work with the pipes themselves. With a tape measure and a pencil marked out the necessary segments for the formation of the pipeline. In addition, I measured the depth of the heating elements and, adding a couple of millimeters, applied it to the soldering points. This can be done after cutting products. This technique will help you control the immersion of the edge of the cut into the nozzle, since excessive melting can lead to the formation of a bulge in the seam that prevents the passage of liquid;

  1. Cutting. The main thing here is to observe a right angle. Thanks to some experience, I have no problems with this, that is, evenly brought the scissors to the line and made a clear cut with one smooth strong movement. Try also, without excitement, with the necessary efforts to complete the cutting. Otherwise, if you make oblique cuts, you will have to level them with a hacksaw or knife. It is also worth noting that when using reinforced pipes, you must first remove the upper layer plastic and foil laid under it;

  1. Heat. At this stage I I put the prepared coupling on the mandrel, and inserted the pipe section with some delay into the nozzle-sleeve. Why belatedly? Because the walls of the connecting element are thicker, and, accordingly, they will melt longer, that is, the head start will not interfere with them. Keep the products in this position should be guided by the following table:

  1. Docking. After the above time has passed, I removed both fragments with melted edges from the welder and connected, again, strictly at a right angle, after which he held the time indicated in the following table:
Cross section, cm Connection time, s Cooling time, s
2 4 2
2,5 4 2
3,2 6 4
4 6 4
5 6 4
6,3 8 6
7,5 10 8
9 11 8
11 12 8

In no case do not turn the connected products at the time of solidification, as this may provoke a violation of the tightness of the seam.

  1. Control. I let water through the finished pipeline and checked all joints for leaks. If you suddenly find one in yourself, then cut out the problem area and weld a new segment in its place.

cold method

Compression fittings allow you to connect polypropylene pipes without soldering. All you need besides the connectors themselves is crimp key, which, as a rule, is sold with them.

The very process of connecting pipes in a “cold” way, I performed as follows, when I didn’t have an “iron” at hand, and it was necessary to restore the damaged section of the water supply urgently:

  1. Measured and cut off the desired pipe fragment;

  1. Calibrated hole. It is very important that its cross section ideally matches the diameter of the fitting tail;

  1. Put on the edge of the pipe ferrule;

  1. Then I inserted the fitting itself inside;

  1. Crimped the clutch with a special key, securely fixing it on the pipe;

  1. I checked the coupling for the presence of characteristic recesses, indicating a quality connection.

The described method also solves well the problem of how to connect metal pipe with polypropylene. To do this, simply select the appropriate compression fitting, in which one of the ends is equipped with a metal thread of the desired pitch and diameter.

If you have a question: "How to connect a HDPE pipe with polypropylene?" Then again, you can turn to compression fittings, since welding here, most likely, will not cope due to the significant difference in the melting temperatures of these materials. At least I wouldn't risk it.

And a bit of "tar in the ointment": despite some versatility of the "cold" connection method, it takes much more time to implement. So, if you have to install a long pipeline, then during the time of advertising on TV you may not have time to cope with the task.

Conclusion

A little practice and following the above recommendations will allow you to lay water supply lines from polypropylene pipes, practically without looking up from watching your favorite TV shows and TV programs. The main thing is to be careful and accurate, since a mistake made will take much more time to correct it than timely control of the work being done.

Polypropylene pipes are used in the installation of plumbing, irrigation systems and heating. The popularity of the material and various areas of use are due to its characteristics: strength, durability, ease of connection. An important argument in favor of polypropylene pipes was their price, which is significantly lower than that of metal-plastic or metal counterparts.

Life time plastic pipeline With cold water is 50 years, such an impressive figure makes it necessary to replace obsolete lines with just this type of highways. Joint tightness - the most important factor for any pipeline, therefore, the viability of the system depends on the quality of installation. In the article we will talk about how to connect polypropylene pipes with metal, polyethylene, steel, and also consider various options welding.

Materials and tools

If you decide to save on installation services and do it yourself, then you need to buy or rent a special soldering iron with nozzles. In addition to it, you will need:

  • tape measure and marker for marking;
  • scissors for cutting plastic pipes;
  • pipe cleaning.

There are several types of polypropylene pipes, which differ in the area of \u200b\u200buse:

  1. PN 10, 16 - used for laying cold water pipes;
  2. PN 20 - universal pipes with thick walls, they are able to withstand hot water up to 80ºC, therefore they are suitable for heating installation;
  3. PN 25 is a composite pipe with a metal or nylon layer, which is peeled off during soldering. It is used for heating systems, the final heating temperature is 95 ° C.

A distinctive characteristic of the connection of polypropylene pipes is the absence of joints directly between the pipes. If their diameter is less than 50 mm, all parts can be connected with fittings for various purposes:

  • couplings - connect sections of the same diameter;
  • crosses - used to create branches;
  • plugs - seal the end of the pipe;
  • adapters - serve to connect pipes of different diameters;
  • nipple fittings - connect with flexible hoses.

How to operate the welding machine

The principle of connecting the pipeline is to heat the elements and quickly connect them. household appliances for welding pipes have a power of up to 1 kW. It is enough to quickly and efficiently heat up the material, but for industrial purposes, more powerful and expensive devices are used. Included with the soldering iron are nozzles corresponding to the diameter various pipes. The pipe is heated from the outside, and the fitting from the inside.

The work of the soldering iron begins with the inclusion in the network and setting the desired heating temperature, depending on the diameter of the plastic pipes being welded. The average value is 250–270°C. Such a high temperature requires caution, touching a hot part will cause a burn, for safety reasons it is worth wearing gloves.

soldering process

To cut the pipes, a hacksaw or sharp scissors are used that do not deform the plastic. The incision is made at a right angle. If burrs appear on the end, they are carefully cleaned. After cutting, the depth of soldering is marked. You need to measure the section of the pipe that will enter the tee or coupling, and draw a line with a marker. The value of this section depends on the diameter of the pipes, the larger it is, the greater the immersion in the connecting element.

If you have to work with reinforced pipes, the algorithm of actions changes. Before soldering, it is necessary to clean the upper layer of the pipe, consisting of aluminum foil, basalt or nylon fiber. A special tool is designed to remove the desired layer size.

Careful removal of the foil is very important, a small amount of material on the pipe will spoil the tightness of the soldering.

A soldering iron with nozzles selected according to the diameter of the pipes is installed on a flat and solid surface. From both sides, a pipe and a fitting are simultaneously put on the heated nozzle, deepening to the intended line. The heating time of the plastic depends on the size of the pipes: for 20 mm, 6 seconds is enough, and for 32 mm, 8 seconds are required. After maintaining the set period of time, the elements are removed and firmly fixed into each other, while it is impossible to make rotary movements. For a strong adhesion of the joint, it will take from 4 to 10 seconds, during which time the polypropylene will harden and form an integral connection.

Failure to comply with the recommended heating time leads to the formation of leaks - with insufficient heating or soldering inner space- overheating. The resulting flow should not be immediately removed, the molten plastic is more deformed. It is necessary to wait until it cools and cut off the excess.

Without experience, in order to understand how to solder pipes correctly, you can make several training connections. It is convenient to work with short connections by placing the welding machine on the table, in this position you can perform all possible job, and joining a partially laid highway is more difficult. The nozzle of the soldering iron is put on a fixed polypropylene pipe, and a tee is inserted into the second part, while the device is kept on weight. When executing the trunk, you need to monitor the order of the connections being made. Try to avoid docking in hard-to-reach places where it will be difficult to use a soldering iron.

It is important to keep the material clean and dry, because dirt and moisture reduce the quality of the pipe connection. Even a small amount of moisture deforms the material when heated. The chemical composition of pipes from different manufacturers may not match, this will lead to leaky joints. It is necessary to buy all the material - pipes and fittings - from one manufacturer.

The temperature in the room where polypropylene is being installed must not fall below +5°C.

Crimp connection method

Docking of the pipeline by soldering is reliable and durable, it is impossible to disassemble it, and sometimes this is what is required for repair. In addition, it is not always possible to purchase or borrow a welding machine; in such cases, they use the method of connecting polypropylene pipes without soldering. For this, fittings with threads and a clamping ring are used. They are called collet or crimp, such a connection is able to withstand a pressure of sixteen atmospheres.

For a mechanical connection, it is necessary to purchase several additional parts: elbows designed for joining various diameters, a tee, solder and combined couplings with external and internal threads, plugs, adapters with external threads, elbows and tees with a union nut, Ball Valves, various fittings with factory thread.

To ensure tightness, the joints and seals are liberally lubricated with silicone.

To work, you will need a crimp wrench, which can be bought at the same time as the fittings. cutting off desired part pipe, firmly insert it into the fitting, wind the thread of the element with a thread for sealing and tighten the ferrule and nut, fully tightening is done with a wrench. This connection method takes much more time than welding, but it is convenient for them to connect polypropylene pipes to radiators.

Docking of a steel pipe with polypropylene

When installing heating or plumbing, there are areas where metal and plastic joining is required. The connection of a polypropylene pipe and a metal one occurs when using special adapters. This fitting has a smooth plastic hole on one side and a threaded metal insert on the other. The polypropylene pipe is connected by welding, and the metal pipe is screwed with a key. The resulting joint does not have welded strength, but will serve for a long time.

After complete installation system, it is necessary to conduct a test run of water to check the tightness of all connection points of pipes and other elements. If threaded connections are leaking, they must be tightened.

Self-installation of plumbing or heating from polypropylene pipes is quite a feasible task. For its implementation, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions for use. welding machine for plastic and mounting technology. To better understand all the nuances of the process, you should watch a video in which experienced installers share their experience.

To connect such pipes, you need to use special fittings. Such a connection is necessary in cases where water was introduced into the house with HDPE pipes, and further water distribution inside the house is carried out with polypropylene pipes. So, there are 2 types of connections:

  1. In the first case, attach a threaded coupling to the HDPE pipe, where on one side there will be a clamp connection, and on a polypropylene, respectively, similar coupling. That's just on one side there will be a solder joint, and on the other - a threaded one. In both cases, FUM tape or tow is used for threading to seal the joint and avoid leaks.
  2. Otherwise, a flange connection is used. A rubber seal is installed between the flanges. The flanges are bolted together.

Compared to metal and metal-plastic pipes, polypropylene analogues are cheaper, more durable and more reliable. Another important argument in their favor is the ease of connection and joint sealant, which positively affects the viability of the entire pipeline system.

What parts fit polypropylene products

If you do not know how to connect polypropylene pipes, our explanations will come in handy. This type of pipe is in demand in the preparation of water supply, heating and irrigation lines. Due to the long-term operation of polypropylene pipes in the water supply network, which is about half a century, this type is increasingly preferred as a replacement for worn lines. And also these pipes are perfectly combined with auxiliary elements made of steel and polyethylene.

All pipes made of polypropylene, according to the scope of application, are classified into types:

  1. Ordinary pipes for the installation of pipelines with cold water (PN 10, 16).
  2. Universal thick-walled pipes for carrying out heating system resistant to hot water with a temperature of +80ºC (PN 20).
  3. Composite pipes having a layer of metal or nylon, peeled off during soldering. They are used for installation of a heating system, where the maximum temperature hot water can reach +95ºC (PN 25).

Connections of pipes made of polypropylene are distinguished by the absence of seams between the components of the pipeline.

With their diameter less than 50 millimeters, you can use all kinds of fittings:

  • couplings for connecting sections of the same transverse size;
  • crosses for the formation of branches;
  • plugs for sealing the ends of the pipe;
  • adapters for joining tubular products of various diameters;
  • nipple fittings for connecting pipes with flexible hoses.

Soldering pipes

Consider the connection of pipes by soldering:

  1. Using a hacksaw or sharp scissors that do not deform the plastic, cut the pipes at an angle of 90̊. If you do not know how to cut a pipe at an angle, you need to read more information.
  2. If there are burrs on the end face, clean them thoroughly.
  3. Mark the depth of the soldering, i.e. measure a section of a certain length on the pipe to enter the coupling or tee and draw with a marker at risk. Remember that the length of immersion in the connecting element is directly dependent on the diameter of the products. The larger the pipes, the deeper the soldering should be.

The algorithm of actions will change slightly if the pipes are reinforced. Then, before the soldering process, it is necessary to process the top layer of the tubular product, including aluminum foil, basalt or nylon fiber. With the help of a special tool, the required layer size can be easily removed. Need to pay Special attention on the thoroughness of removing the foil. Even its slight excess on the pipe will negatively affect the tightness of the soldering.

Further steps in the soldering process:

  1. Install a soldering iron with nozzles that are pre-selected according to the diameter of the pipes on a smooth and reliable surface.
  2. At the same time, a pipe and a fitting are placed on the hot nozzle from both sides, advancing to the markup applied by the marker.
  3. Warm up the plastic certain time, which depends on the diameter of the pipes. For example, if the size of the cross section of the product is 20 mm, then 6 seconds is enough for heating; if 32 mm - 8 sec.
  4. Then the elements are removed from the nozzle and provide a strong fixation in each other. Do not make any turning movements.
  5. To ensure a strong adhesion of the joint, you need to withstand 4-10 seconds. This time will be enough for high-quality solidification of polypropylene and obtaining a permanent connection.

Please note that it is very important to observe the required heating time. If the heating is insufficient, leaks may occur. Excessive overheating will lead to soldering of the space inside the pipe and the occurrence of flow. You should not delete it immediately, because. heated plastic will begin to deform even more. It is better to wait until the product has completely cooled down, and then remove the excess.

Before proceeding with the process of soldering pipes, it is better to perform a couple of training joints. It is easier to work with small joints by installing the welding machine directly on the table. So you can check how well the pipes are soldered.

But it will be more difficult to attach elements to a partially finished pipeline:

  1. Put a soldering iron nozzle on a polypropylene pipe, insert a tee into the other part, holding the welding machine in weight.
  2. When preparing the main water supply, the alternation of subsequent connections is mandatory. In hard-to-reach areas, it is better to avoid docking work due to the difficulty of using a soldering iron.
  3. The material must be dry and clean, because the presence of dirt and water will reduce the quality of the joint. It is known that the material, if it is wet, can deform when heated.
  4. All products (pipes, fittings) should be purchased from one manufacturer, because the chemical composition of the elements different manufacturers may differ, which will eventually lead to a leaky connection.
  5. Temperature regime in the room where work with polypropylene is carried out, should be optimal and not lower than + 5̊C.

Pipe connection by crimping

Often, repairs will require disassembly of the pipeline. If the connection of the components of the highway is made by soldering, which is reliable and durable, then it is almost impossible to disassemble it. Let's look at how to connect polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron, which can not always be bought or rented from friends. In this case, you will need threaded fittings with a clamping ring, which are called - collet (crimp). And not in vain, because this kind of connection can withstand loads up to 16 atmospheres.

In order to join the components of the pipeline together by crimping, additional details will be needed:

  • tees;
  • soldering and combined couplings with internal and external thread;
  • squares;
  • adapters with external thread;
  • plugs;
  • Ball Valves;
  • tees with union nut;
  • all kinds of threaded fittings;
  • sealing rings for socket connection of polypropylene pipes, etc.

It is necessary to pay attention to one nuance that to ensure reliable tightness, all seals and joints are generously treated with silicone.

Further actions:

  1. Cut off a piece of polypropylene pipe.
  2. Insert it securely into the fitting.
  3. Wrap the thread of the part with a thread for sealing.
  4. Pull the compression ring, nut on top.
  5. With a crimping wrench, which you need to take care of in advance, completely tighten the pipe elements.

Compared to welding, this method takes much more time, but it is very convenient when joining polypropylene pipes and radiators.

Joint combination of metal and polypropylene

When installing plumbing and heating systems, there are places where it is necessary to connect pipes made of steel and plastic. For such cases, special adapter fittings will be required, which have a smooth hole for a plastic pipe on one side, and a metal threaded insert on the other. Therefore, the polypropylene pipe is joined by welding, and the steel pipe is tightened with a crimping wrench. As a result, the resulting joint is inferior in strength to the welded one, but will still last for many years.

Please note that upon completion of the installation work, a test run of water in the system is mandatory. So you can check the tightness of the joints of pipes and pipeline components. Possible leakage threaded connections which must be immediately tightened with a wrench.

As we see, it is possible to self-assembly plumbing or heating system made of polypropylene pipes. The main thing is to impeccably comply with the requirements of the instructions for using the welding machine and the technology of installation work. It will be very useful to watch a video on this topic.

Combination of polyethylene and polypropylene

This version of the line provides for the purchase of special fittings. They will be needed if water enters the building through HDPE pipes, and is subsequently diluted using polypropylene pipes. In such cases, HDPE pipes are often soldered with a soldering iron for polypropylene, which is quite acceptable.

Consider two cases of how to connect polypropylene pipes without welding with polyethylene:

  1. A threaded coupling is attached to the HDPE product, on one side of which there is a clamp connection. A similar threaded coupling is also mounted on the end of the polypropylene pipe, with a solder joint on one end of which, and a threaded joint on the opposite end. To avoid leaks and achieve high-quality docking, tow or FUM tape is applied to the thread.
  2. With flange connection. A rubber seal is located between the flanges, which are bolted together. See also: "".

To independently install a water supply system from plastic pipes, you do not need a lot of knowledge and experience, since this process is not difficult. However, in order to improve the quality of the work performed, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the technology and some of the nuances of connecting this type of pipe elements. It is also important to learn a few lessons about how to connect different types plastic pipe and the highlights of this process.

Methods for connecting plastic pipes

First, it is worth noting that plastic pipes include products from the following materials:

Each material has certain properties, therefore, the connection of products is carried out different ways, including soldering polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron (read also: “How to connect polypropylene pipes - an overview of proven docking methods”). For greater awareness, it is worth learning how to connect water pipes from these materials.

Polypropylene products

Polypropylene pipe is the most popular material for plumbing. This is due to the presence of some advantages: reasonable price, high strength and long service life. Therefore, the study of methods for connecting all types of plastic pipes should begin with this type.

Polypropylene pipes are connected by welding with the obligatory use of couplings, angles, tees and other fittings. When connecting polypropylene pipes for plumbing, you need to purchase pipes and fittings from the same manufacturer. Otherwise, even strict adherence to welding technology cannot guarantee complete tightness and quality.

To connect polypropylene water pipes with your own hands, you need to have the following tools at hand:

  • Special soldering iron. This is simply called a welding device with a set special nozzles allowing to connect pipes of various sections. At the same time, the nozzle is selected individually for each pipe in accordance with its cross section.
  • Cleanup. This tool cuts off the reinforcing layer at the ends of the pipes. Stripping is used only for multilayer reinforced tubular products.
  • Pipe cutter. By name, you can determine that the device helps to cut polypropylene pipes.
  • A tape measure, pencil or marker may also be needed in the process of joining polypropylene tubular products.

Installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes is carried out as follows:

  1. Turn on and warm up the welding machine. The device must go through three phases: heating to a certain temperature, switching off, reheating. The mode of operation can be tracked by the indicator light (read also: “Types of PVC pipe welding, advantages and disadvantages of methods”).
  2. During the heating of the soldering iron, the reinforcing layer is stripped in the place where the fitting will be welded.
  3. Dust and dirt are cleaned from the surface of the connected elements and wet places are wiped well. Please note that failure to follow these steps may result in a loose connection.
  4. The end of one pipe and the connecting element are inserted into the heating nozzle and kept for a certain period of time. The heating time must be strictly controlled, since long holding leads to deformation of the elements, and if the heating is insufficient, the strength of the connection of plastic water pipes is reduced. Therefore, each welding machine is accompanied by a special table, which indicates the heating time for parts with a certain diameter.
  5. The heated elements are pulled out of the nozzles and quickly connected. The strength of the connection also depends on the speed of action at this stage, so the process must be carried out quickly, but carefully. The pipe is inserted into the fitting until it stops, but it must not be deformed. The connected parts should be held until the plastic has completely cooled.
  6. In a similar way, all elements of the water supply are connected. To avoid damage to the material, you need to perform actions on unnecessary pipe cuts. The process of welding polypropylene pipes is quite complicated, but after a few trial steps, you can start working on your own.

Docking of pipes made of metal-plastic

Compound metal-plastic pipes You can also make handmade products using one of three methods:

  1. Connection using compression fittings involves the following steps: the end of the pipe is put on the collet, secured with a compression ring and squeezed with a clamping nut.
  2. Fitting connection crimp type involves compressing the ring at the end of the fitting with a special press.
  3. Docking with push fittings is a new connection method that does not require any tools. This method may be the answer to the question of how to connect plastic pipes without soldering.

Regardless of the chosen method of connecting metal-plastic pipes, tools are still worth preparing. In particular, you will need a pipe cutter, which can be replaced with a conventional mounting knife, and a calibrator, which can be any cylindrical object of a certain diameter.

The most popular is the connection of metal-plastic pipes using compression fittings, which involves the following steps:

  • First, the pipes are cut with a knife or pipe cutter, ensuring a right angle of the cut line.
  • Before connecting the pipes, the cut ends are processed, that is, the diameter is calibrated and chamfered, using a calibrator in both cases.
  • A nut is removed from the fitting and put on the end of the pipe, followed by a compression ring.
  • Now the collet is inserted into the end of the pipe, having previously checked for the presence of rubber o-rings.
  • Push the clamping ring onto the collet and tighten the nut on the fitting. In this case, do not allow strong tightening of the nut, as this leads to damage rubber seals(read also: “How and how to connect PVC pipes - best ways connections").

In a similar way, connect all the elements of the water supply system. Such an installation is characterized by one advantage: minimum set tools for work, which is at hand for any owner. In addition, this is the only option that allows you to get a detachable connection, which is necessary in some situations.

Compression fittings for water pipes

The connection with compression fittings is carried out in the same order, only the compression ring and nut are replaced with a compression ring. To squeeze it, a manual or electric press is used.

Push fittings make it possible to get a connection of metal-plastic pipes much faster than previous methods. To perform the work, it is enough to insert the prepared end of the pipe into the connecting part, and all actions are performed without much effort.

When water is supplied to the assembled system, the wedge of the fitting is pushed out and clamped, which prevents water leakage. This method does not require special tools or keys, and the installation itself is several times faster. See also: "How to install plastic pipes - basic installation rules."

Push fittings can be used to connect pipes made of metal-plastic and cross-linked polyethylene.

The connection by any of the listed methods is tight and reliable, so you need to choose depending on the available tools and financial capabilities.

Connection of polyethylene pipes

Polyethylene pipes can be connected using one of the following options:

  • With compression fittings.
  • Welding by electrofusion.

The connection with compression fittings is carried out by analogy with metal-plastic pipes, but in a certain sequence:

  • The pipe is cut and chamfered.
  • A clamp nut is put on the pipe.
  • It is followed by a collet.
  • Next, in turn, put on the thrust and sealing ring.
  • The pipe is inserted into the fitting body, all parts are shifted to the edge and the nut is tightened.

This method is most often used when assembling household irrigation systems in country houses or in a summer cottage.

The connection of metal-plastic pipes in household water pipes is carried out by welding with an electrofusion coupling. Therefore, to perform the work, it is necessary to have a special welding device and an electric coupling having a diameter in accordance with the cross section of the elements to be connected.

The welding procedure involves the following steps:

  • Preparation of the surface of the connected elements. To do this, remove the top layer of tubular products with a special scraper and degrease the cleaned area.
  • The ends of the elements to be connected are inserted into the electric coupling, while the joint should be located exactly in its middle.
  • The electric coupling is attached to the welding machine and the spirals inside it begin to heat up. As a result, the polyethylene begins to melt and the edges of the pipe elements are welded together.

The device for this type of welding has a very high price, therefore, if it is not intended to be used further, it is better to rent the device for a few days than to spend a large amount for its one-time use.

How to connect PVC pipes

Polyvinyl chloride tubular products are connected using a special adhesive composition. However, it is very difficult to call it glue, since when the surfaces to be joined are treated with this substance, the plastic melts, and the edges are welded, not glued. In other words, pipes are soldered without a soldering iron.

The process of connecting pipes of their polyvinyl chloride is as follows:

  • First, the edges of the pipes to be joined are cleaned of dust and dirt and dried well.
  • Then the chamfer is removed from the ends. This action must be performed without fail so that the adhesive does not scrape off when connecting the elements.
  • then one end of the pipe is inserted into the fitting to measure its depth. Make an appropriate mark on the pipe with a pencil or marker.
  • The end of the pipe is treated with an adhesive to the mark using a brush. In this case, we should not forget that you can not leave glue on the surface for more than 25 seconds.
  • The elements are connected and rotated slightly to evenly distribute the composition over the entire surface. The glue should dry naturally without any external influences. The drying time of the adhesive composition can be affected by air temperature and other factors.

Based on all of the above, we can conclude that in most cases, the connection of plastic pipes can be done by hand, without special devices at hand and without special knowledge and skills. The main condition is strict adherence to technology. It is also important to listen to the advice of professionals. This will help to complete the installation of water supply without unnecessary material costs.

Joining plastic pipes without using a soldering machine

When arranging communication systems, it is necessary to dock individual elements, however, this process can be done in quite different ways. The connection of plastic pipes without soldering deserves special attention, because in this case it is possible to do without the use of a special apparatus, the price of which is quite high.

The photo shows plastic products for communication systems.

Docking with fittings

With this option, a set of shaped parts is used, which makes it possible to combine not only two, but also more elements. Every developer who does not have a soldering machine wants to learn how to connect plastic pipes in this way.

Advantages of the method

  • The low cost of fittings allows you to reduce the cost of summing up communications.
  • Ease of installation makes it possible to dock even non-professionals.
  • The possibility of using parts in pressurized systems expands the scope.

This is what the fittings look like.

Note! It should be borne in mind that this method is applicable for elements with a small diameter, and in other situations, it is docking with thermal action that is more often used.

Carrying out work

It's time to understand how plastic pipes are connected directly by compression fittings. Of the tools you will need: sharp knife for cutting elements, a calibrator, as well as manual or automatic pliers for clamping operations.

Cutting is done first constituent parts communication system, if required in a particular case. The cut must be made strictly perpendicular so that bevels and other flaws do not form. After that, with the help of a calibrator, the ovality at the joint is eliminated.

Next, a special coupling is thrown on, and the fitting itself with sealing rings is inserted into the pipe. From above, crimping is carried out with cooked tongs. Thus, it is possible to join the plastic elements.

An illustrative example of the installation of a compression fitting.

However, in some cases, you need to know how to connect a plastic pipe to a cast iron one. For this, a special adapter is used, the diameter of the sides of which corresponds to the dimensions of the pipes used. In the process of docking, it must be remembered that the coefficients of linear expansion of plastic and cast iron are noticeably different.

Bonding individual elements

In addition to the above option, there are other ways to connect plastic pipes. One of these is the gluing process, when the ends of the components are joined using a special chemical composition. In the course of work, it is possible to ensure sufficient tightness.

The principle of operation of the composition

Glue intended for plastic products usually contains polyvinyl chloride, which dissolves in methyl ethyl ketone, tetrahydrofuran and cyclohexanone. Special additives that improve adhesion are also added to two-component formulations.

Widely used compound.

Advantages of the adhesive method

  • Quality grip chemical agent with the surfaces of the elements allows you to get high tightness.
  • Availability the main material makes it possible to apply it to a wide range of consumers.
  • Invisibility of the joint positively affects the aesthetic perception of the components of the communication system.

Attention! The adhesive used must be stored at a sufficient distance from open flame because it catches fire easily. In addition, during work it is necessary to protect the skin from contact with the substance.

Application of the composition

You can carry out gluing with your own hands. Work should be carried out at temperatures from +5 to +35 degrees. In advance, you need to prepare a brush with natural bristles. In most cases, it comes directly with the adhesive.

Before starting the main steps, it is desirable to assemble the structure without the use of a chemical agent in order to perform a preliminary fitting. Before applying the substance to without fail the surface is degreased using solvents.

Demonstrates the process of applying glue.

A thin layer of adhesive is applied to the prepared surfaces. The plastic product is inserted into the hole until it stops, while avoiding rotation or other manipulations. Within 15-20 seconds, the components are held so that the adhesive has time to dry.

Socket corral

The presented method is applicable mainly for sewer systems, since they do not create pressure. At the ends of the elements used there are special connections for plastic pipes - sockets. With their help, the fixation itself is made.

Positive aspects of technology

  • Relatively high assembly speed guarantees installation in the shortest possible time.
  • Eliminating the need to purchase additional components reduces costs.
  • Possibility of implementation self assembly allows you to refuse professional help.

Docking principle: 1 - socket, 2 - sealant.

Important! For non-pressure systems, this option can be considered quite tight, because when installed, it is inserted inside rubber gasket, which at the same time makes it possible to compensate for the mismatch of the connected parts.

Description of the build process

After making sure before installation that there is a rubber ring in the socket, you need to clean it from various pollution then it will be possible to achieve good adhesion. Lubricant should be applied to the smooth edge of the pipe to improve the seal. After that, docking is carried out.

To do this, the smooth end of the element is inserted into the socket until it stops. The place of contact with the edge is marked with a marker to make it easier to determine the docking distance. Next, the product is pulled back about 10 mm directly from the line.

The gap made is needed to compensate for the linear expansion that usually occurs with temperature fluctuations. In this regard, it will be possible to avoid the appearance of internal stresses in the communication network.

The main points for the socket connection.

Cutting system components is strictly perpendicular to eliminate the possibility of bending the pipeline. After cutting, a chamfer is removed from the end using a conventional file. This reduces the chance of damage to the gasket.

Final part

After considering this topic, almost every beginner should qualitatively connect plastic pipes without outside help. Additionally attached visual instruction, which will help to understand the difficult moments associated with the installation work.

How to connect polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron?

It is necessary to slightly redo the water supply in the new building, add a piece of pipe - lengthen it. All materials are available except for a soldering iron, is it possible to make a high-quality connection, for example, on glue? Or such pipes can only be connected with a soldering iron?

For high-quality fastening, it is advisable to solder polypropylene pipes only with a special soldering iron. But if it is not there, not everyone has it, then the pipes are interconnected by other materials and tools, for example, gas burner. This method is suitable for soldering pipes large diameter. Measure and cut off the required pipe section, be sure to add

2-2.5 centimeters. Heat the pipe and fitting with a burner at the same time. Connect them and hold for a while, wait until they cool down.

Polypropylene is a difficult-to-glue material, and for joining polypropylene pipes, you need to choose a very high-quality adhesive designed for this material.

Prepare a piece of pipe and a fitting for it. To reliably glue polypropylene pipes, it is necessary to clean and degrease the surfaces. Then apply glue in a thin even layer on the pipes and connect the parts with a fitting, hold the time according to the instructions, at least 2-3 minutes. Do not use pipes for several hours, until full setting.

Pipes designed for a soldering iron with high quality (I would like to emphasize the word “quality”) cannot be glued together.

In general, you can glue.

I need to buy this glue

In terms of money, this will turn out to be many times more expensive than renting a soldering iron, or paying the master to lengthen the pipe you write about (the master will come with his soldering iron).

We clean the pipe with a shaver (practice somewhere on a piece of pipe, adjust the shaver knife to remove a small layer).

We clean the pipe forcibly, because the diameter of the pipe larger diameter fittings (with a common diameter of both pipes and fittings).

After we cleaned it, we work on cleaning it with fine sandpaper.

We try to bring the pipe into the fitting, the entry should be tight.

Now we remove the dust, degrease, dry.

We insert the pipe into the fitting and hold for a while (30 seconds).

Remove excess glue immediately.

At the end, I would like to give advice:

After we have not correctly connected the pipes for heating with a soldering iron, glue, be sure to attach over the peephole front door sticker with the inscription “turn off the main taps”.

And close every time you leave the house.

Connection of plastic pipes without soldering. Fittings and cold welding

Polymer parts can be connected not only with the help of heating elements. But how to connect polypropylene pipes without soldering? Soldering polypropylene pipes for their connection is not always used. The presence of other types of connection besides soldering is one of them. characteristic features. The absence of the need to purchase welding equipment in one way or another makes this type of welding even more popular and affordable, since few people know how to solder or how to weld pipes. Also hallmark is the ability to connect plastic pipes with your own hands without special equipment. How to connect plastic pipes without soldering?

There are two ways to join polypropylene, polyethylene and other polymer materials without the use of special welding equipment: welding of plastic pipes using compression fittings and cold welding.

The only thing you need besides compression fittings for the first type of welding is a special crimp wrench. They are usually sold together. For cold welding only special glue is needed. The latter type of connection without soldering is more often applicable only for cold water supply. The disadvantage of joining parts without soldering is that it takes more time. Further, each of the types will be considered in more detail and the answers to the questions will be given on how to connect polypropylene pipes without soldering and how to solder polypropylene pipes on their own.

Connection with compression fittings

You can solder plastic parts using compression fittings. They are applicable not only for the type of pipes corresponding to them. As a rule, fittings made of a material different from the material of the connected elements cannot be used. However, a feature of such fittings is their versatility, since different pipes can be connected: aluminum with copper, low-pressure polyethylene with PVC, and so on. Therefore, not every part corresponds to a certain type of fitting. Another advantage of this type of connection is that the structure can be both assembled and disassembled. If you soldered two parts, it will no longer be possible to separate them as it was.

The design of the fitting consists of the following elements: those that are installed on the end of the pipe (for example, plugs) and those that combine the connected elements into a single whole.

The modern market has many fittings. Here are the main ones:

The compression fitting is a housing that is not affected by ultraviolet radiation. This housing contains a press sleeve and a cover. The body material contains an o-ring that promotes a tight connection, a clamping and thrust ring (sometimes these two rings are combined in one). In case of disassembly / assembly of parts, the sealing ring must be replaced with a new one. These fittings are used for products made of low pressure polyethylene (PE 100, PE 80, PE 40), and low density polyethylene. Crimp fittings in addition to resistance to ultraviolet radiation, they are also characterized by resistance to aggressive chemicals. The scope of application of connections using compression fittings is typical for low-rise buildings, in street plumbing systems village and settlements, greenhouses. In this regard, one should again note the peculiarity of this type of connection, namely the possibility of disassembling the pipeline in one place in order to transfer it to a new location.

When working with fittings, be sure to first read the instructions and strictly follow its provisions, as well as the rules set forth below. Before work, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the quality of pipes, their dimensions and their compliance with fittings. There are maximum allowable deviations from the norm when connecting: the diameter cannot deviate from the nominal value by more than 1%, and the oval of the section cannot be more than 2%. If these limits are violated, then the pipeline is best laid in a horizontal position. The pipeline is connected manually if the diameter is less than 50 mm, if more, then a special key is needed. The connection of plastic pipes without soldering must be carried out in compliance with the requirements for thorough cleaning of parts from dirt and burrs, stripping so that the edges are smooth, without defects. For cutting use special scissors. Mark the required insertion length on the product with a marker.

The connection speed is pretty fast. The nut is put on one end of the pipe, the clamp ring is installed, after which the pipe is inserted into the fitting. The ring should reach the stop. In conclusion, depending on the diameter of the pipeline, tighten the nut manually or with a key.

As a result, we get a ready-made connection of plastic pipes without soldering.

The main advantages of compression fittings:

  • Structural strength
  • Design durability
  • Ease and speed of assembly
  • No susceptibility to corrosion
  • Versatility
  • The ability to connect plastic pipes with your own hands without welding equipment

How to solder polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron using cold welding or adhesive bonding

Cold welding of plastic pipes is a process of connecting parts without heating them. You can solder plastic elements by using a special glue that hardens quickly. The composition of the adhesive usually consists of epoxy resin and hardener. Cold welding has black or white colors. Usually it is used for cold water supply. But some adhesives are also used for hot. This must be indicated separately on the packaging.

What is the adhesive mass:

  • Fluid mixtures (the package should contain two tubes: one with a hardener, the second with an elastic substance; for example: if you are going to eliminate a hole in polymer product, then the contents of the tubes must be connected immediately before starting work (a kind of repair); be sure to use the mixture for no more than 20 minutes, otherwise it will become hard).
  • Plastic mass (it is a bar consisting of two layers: a hardener on top, and a plastic component inside; it resembles plasticine).

Most professionals advise using the cold welding method for a specific list of materials, which is provided for in the instructions.

The packaging also indicates the maximum permissible value temperature for a particular mixture (usually around 260 degrees). If you strictly follow the rules of operation, the seam will be durable, strong and tight. There is glue for high temperatures water (about 1300 degrees).

Thus, soldering polypropylene pipes is not the only way polymer compounds. It is possible to connect plastic pipes with your own hands without the use of a welding machine. Do-it-yourself polypropylene pipes can be connected by cold welding or using compression fittings. The connection of polypropylene pipes without a soldering iron using fittings has features, among which the most important is the ability to assemble and disassemble structures.

This is what a soldering iron ("iron") for polypropylene pipes looks like. uncomplicated electrical device, semi-automatic, thanks to which plastic soldering is done

For butt welding, the designs of soldering irons differ increased complexity. Typically, such a technique includes not only heating element, but also a system for centering welded parts.

As a rule, direct welding equipment, like the technology itself, is rarely used in the domestic sector. The priority of use is industry.

More complex device, with the help of which the exact centering of the parts to be welded is performed with a further heating and soldering process. Used with direct welding technology

In addition to soldering irons, the master will also need:

  • scissors - ;
  • roulette construction;
  • locksmith's square;
  • shaver for pipes with reinforcement;
  • marker or pencil;
  • surface degreaser.

Since the work is carried out on high-temperature equipment, be sure to wear thick work gloves.

Polypropylene Welding Procedure

Important warning! Welding of polymeric materials should be carried out in conditions of good ventilation of the room. During heating and melting of polymers, toxic substances are released, which in a certain concentration have a serious impact on human health.

The procedure for welding polypropylene is simple, but requires accuracy and accuracy in work. Common mistakes should also be avoided, such as insufficient or excessive heating.

First of all, you need to prepare for work:

  1. Install blanks of the required diameter on the heater plateau.
  2. Set the regulator to 260ºС.
  3. Prepare mating parts - mark, chamfer, degrease.
  4. Turn on the soldering station.
  5. Wait for a set operating temperature– turning on the green indicator.

The mating parts (pipe - coupling) should be simultaneously placed on the blanks of the soldering station. In this case, the polypropylene pipe is mounted in the inner region of one blank, and the coupling (or socket of the fitting) on the outer surface of the other blank.

Usually, the ends of the pipe are inserted along the border of the previously marked line, and the coupling is pushed all the way. When keeping polypropylene parts on heated blanks, you should remember about important nuance technology - exposure time.
