Folding deck chair do-it-yourself drawings. Do-it-yourself sun lounger? Easier than simple! Future deck chair - drawing and description

Hot summer brings a lot of trouble to a person. How sometimes you want to lie down somewhere and take a nap under the dense canopy of trees. Such rest both relaxes and allows you to gain additional strength.

To please yourself with such a relaxing relaxation, you need to come up with something. Something that is both quite easy to do and does not take much time. And here it is worth paying attention to the unusual long chair-chaise lounge. It's pretty simple and handy.

And in order not to lose sight of anything, it is enough to use photographs of a sun lounger set by yourself, which can be found in large numbers on the Internet.

Long... chair?

Chaise longue is long and light wooden chair which is meant for relaxation. Most often, sun loungers can be seen at tourist camps, recreation centers, sanatoriums and hotels. They are installed next to a pool or an artificial reservoir, where any vacationer can lie down and relax calmly.

Chaise longue fits very well general interior, so a person can install it in his country house, house or plot. Beautiful appearance will decorate any corner of your home.

A person can either buy it for himself or make a deck chair with his own hands.

What do we have?

Comfortable long chairs look completely different. And before proceeding directly to work, you should understand what type of deck chair you need to make. They are:

  • in the form of a rocking chair (the back is at an angle, so the process of rest is very comfortable. You can not only sit, but also lie down and even sleep);
  • as ordinary chair(elements of a folding bed or a crib are taken as a basis; armrests are mounted at will);
  • in the form of a monolithic product (with manual assembly all parts are tightly fastened, so parsing is impossible; possesses strength and reliability. Backrest adjustment is not provided, the product itself does not fold);
  • in the form of a soldered product with beautiful hand-made inserts (chaise lounge self made with amazing beauty; can fit into any interior);
  • in the form of a sunbed (a strong and reliable deck chair made of plastic or wood; beautifully sanded and varnished);
  • in the form of a portable product (it is compact and reliable; a position regulating mechanism is provided).

Cheap but angry

The materials that should be used when working on a sun lounger are very diverse. The myth that a sun lounger is wooden chair, is unreliable.

When working on its creation, the most various materials, which are at the same time quite cheap, and you can find them in any hardware store. Chaise longue can be made from:

  • tree. At the same time, the deck chair will differ in strength, reliability, and environment it will not suffer. Minus - it weighs quite a lot (to facilitate the transfer, wheels should be attached);
  • fabrics. The basis of a chaise lounge differs in pleasant comfort and convenience. The frame is made of wood;
  • rattan. Chaise longue, heavily made to decorate the home. It is environmentally friendly, but there is one big drawback - the price;
  • plastic. Plastic sun loungers are very light, so you can safely take them on a hike. The frame is made of wood or special pipe. Minus - poor reliability;
  • PVC material. Chaise lounge on a fabric base, but the base is made of PVC pipes.

Beginning of work

After the type is selected and the material is selected, the work starts with the outline of the drawing of the deck chair. The drawing plays the main role, since during its creation the dimensions, shape, additional inserts and much more that will be included in the final work are determined.

Not everyone can draw such a scheme, so if necessary, you should contact the experts.

Helpers

After the approval of the drawing, in order, for example, to make a wooden deck chair with your own hands, a person will need such assistants:

  • wood for the legs of the back, seat;
  • wooden rod to support the back of the part;
  • fabric for the back itself;
  • bolts;
  • nuts;
  • screws;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • washers;
  • special glue;
  • drill;
  • hand saw;
  • marker;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper;
  • needle file round section.

Using these simple devices, you can make a beautiful and comfortable lounger for relaxation in one day.

Fabric deck chair on a wooden frame

If it is necessary to do small version chairs, then folding sun loungers come to mind. A folding deck chair is very easy to make. First:

  • you need to take the base from a folding bed or crib;
  • drill holes in the main frame;
  • make four cutouts in the auxiliary frame (to adjust the tilt of the back);
  • make holes for both ends of the rails (for installing the seat);
  • Lubricate the round cross-sections with an adhesive solution and install in the holes.

In the second phase, the seat itself is made. To do this, take the fabric, and measure out the right dimensions(the fabric must sag after installation).

Then on sewing machine fabric edges are processed. At the very end, the fabric is stretched over the crossbar and nailed.

Conclusion

Making a deck chair for a summer residence or at home is not great work. If everything is done correctly, then in the end you can get a great assistant who will serve as a place of rest in the hardest part of the working day.

Extending the life of your sun lounger

In order for a self-made deck chair to last longer and be more resistant to moisture, it is recommended to process it by special means during production and after production.

These products include impregnations and antiseptics, which are designed specifically for wood. They protect the wood not only from moisture, but also from insects and prevent the wood from spoiling. With these means, the wood is coated before installation into a single structure.

Impregnation with an antiseptic will extend the life of the lounger

After assembling the deck chair, they are varnished, painted or varnished. Such a coating can extend the life of the product.

After assembly, the deck chair must be varnished

You can sew a mattress for a sun lounger with your own hands

A blank is cut out of the fabric required size. In this case, allowances for seams should be taken into account. After that, the workpiece is sewn on all sides. One side is left unstitched. Through it, a filler is inserted into the mattress.

Chaise lounge mattress filler

In order for the filler not to go astray, it is better to sew it together with the fabric. Velcro or ties can be additionally sewn to the mattress for secure fixation on the deck chair.

Chaise lounges and deck chairs for summer cottages easy enough to make your own. To do this, the main thing is to follow the manufacturing instructions and choose the right material.

After a hard week of work, everyone wants to forget about business for a while. And nothing helps to restore strength like outdoor recreation. But first you need to find appropriate place. The idea of pulling the bed out into the street is unlikely to come to anyone's mind. It is much better to install a special sunbed - a deck chair. Wooden or plastic - of great importance does not have. Any furniture will provide you with the most comfortable conditions for relax.

Main advantages

In their functional purpose, sun loungers are the same chairs, but more stable and with a low seat. In them you can relax in a semi-lying position, which allows you to relax the spine and all muscle groups as much as possible.

The indisputable advantage of sun loungers is their comfortable shape. The garden chair can be folded so that you can sit or lie down on it, depending on the personal preferences of the person.

Traditionally, summer cottages are made of wood, because since ancient times it has been considered the most environmentally friendly, economical and easy-to-use material.

Sun loungers are ideal for observing nature, as they are lightweight and very comfortable. Therefore, it is not surprising that many owners install them in their garden or in the country. Such furniture can stand outdoors throughout the summer, and winter period it can be removed in some suitable premises, for example, pantry.

Most often garden beds are made from materials such as:

  • wood;
  • plastic;
  • rattan.

If you do not want to spend time and energy on self-assembly garden lounger, you can always order it in furniture showroom.

Types of structures

If you have finally decided to start making a sun lounger for yourself, then at first it will not hurt you to get acquainted with the main types of sun loungers for a summer residence. There are a lot of them, so only the most popular will be considered below:

These are just some of the sunbeds that can be purchased for a summer residence. If you wish, you can independently make a deck chair in the form of a swing, as well as using ordinary tree branches as a material. It all depends on your preferences.

Making a wooden deck chair

First you need to prepare a certain set of materials and tools that you will need to make a homemade deck chair:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • jigsaw and screwdriver;
  • boards for sheathing the frame 2.5 cm wide;
  • timber 40x40 mm for the frame;
  • corners for fastening boards (4 pcs.); wood slabs 20 mm thick.

When going to the store for boards and slabs, we advise you to choose a material made from coniferous wood. He tolerates much better. Negative influence precipitation and has a wonderful aroma.

Stages of work

Now that you have everything you need prepared, you can proceed to the assembly of a wooden lounger.

First you need to decide on the size garden chair. you can use finished drawing or compose it yourself. Usually standard sun loungers have dimensions of 60 x 200 cm.

Now you can start making the frame. For it, you will need bars, from which you need to make four sidewalls - two of them should turn out to be 200 cm long, and two more - 60 cm. The finished sidewalls must be further connected to each other using mounting corners.

FROM outside the frame must be sheathed with a board 2.5 cm wide.

We take long sidewalls and attach 4 legs to them, having previously stepped back from the edge of 8 cm. The legs can be made from bars 10 cm long. We use self-tapping screws to attach them to the frame.

Having finished the work on the manufacture of the frame, we begin to assemble the lattice. For it, we need wooden plates, from which we need to cut boards with dimensions of 60 x 10 cm using an electric jigsaw.

We attach the boards to the deck chair frame with self-tapping screws. Be sure to leave a gap between the boards of about 1.5 cm. Then the lounger grill will look neat and beautiful.

If desired, you can make a deck chair with an adjustable back. In this case, the lattice must be divided into two parts. One of them will serve you as a sunbed, and the other as a headboard. We mount both parts to the connecting boards. For reliable connection of elements, it is best to use door hinges.

So that the headboard can be fixed in a certain position, the frame structure with inside add a cross bar. To it with the help of self-tapping screws you need to attach a support stand for the headboard. If you don't have one, you can buy it at any hardware store.

Now that your homemade summer cottage is ready, all that remains is to sand the boards, cover them with drying oil or a special paintwork material to protect against moisture.

Making a fabric lounger

If for some reason a wooden folding deck chair does not suit you, then you can try to make a deck chair out of fabric instead.

Materials and tools

To make a chaise lounge from fabric material, you will need the following:

  • bolts with nuts 8 mm;
  • a piece of durable fabric 200x60 cm;
  • slats of circular cross section 2 cm thick (one bar 700 mm long, two 650 and two 550 mm each);
  • rectangular boards 30x60 cm thick (two boards 1200 mm long, two 1000 and two 600 mm each);
  • sandpaper.

To make a frame lounger, it is best to use tarpaulin, camouflage or denim. They are strong enough and resistant to wear.

Action algorithm

Now you can proceed directly to the assembly of the sunbed from the fabric.

As you can see above, making a deck chair for a summer residence from fabric is no more difficult than a similar deck chair made of wood.

Finished product processing

To prolong the life of your homemade garden chair, we advise you to immediately process the material from which it was made. To do this, you can use the following compositions:

  • For wood, we advise you to purchase special protective impregnations and antiseptics that will reduce negative impact external factors on the material. Wood materials are best processed before the product is assembled.
  • To increase the service life of a wooden deck chair, it can be treated with paint, drying oil or varnish. It is advisable to cover the product with one of the selected products immediately after production.
  • Water repellent fabrics. With their help, you will not only increase the wear resistance of the fabric material, but also maintain the brightness of colors. The effect of such treatments lasts for 2-3 weeks.

Buying a garden chair

Perhaps some summer residents will not want to spend time and money on making a deck chair with their own hands. In this case, you can go to the store and buy there finished garden bed. In the furniture salon you will be able to offer a variety of such products to choose from. Surely among them you will find budget options, and unusual performance designer models sunbeds for the street.

After studying the proposed options and comparing their characteristics, you will only have to decide on the amount that you are willing to pay for a sun lounger. The cost of such sunbeds depends on the size and material of manufacture:

  • wooden deck chairs will cost you between 6000-15000 rubles;
  • for plastic sunbeds you will have to pay from 1500 to 9000 rubles;
  • folding frame deck chairs, which can be purchased for 1350-9500 rubles, will not hit your pocket too much.

When traveling to the dacha, many are warmed by the thought that they will have the opportunity to lie down in the fresh air for at least a few minutes and enjoy surrounding nature. But it is in the power of everyone to make their vacation more enjoyable if you equip a place for it in advance. For this you must have special furniture like a sun lounger.

The easiest way is to buy such a lounger in the nearest furniture store, although some owners often make a deck chair for themselves and thereby save a lot. You can do the same, especially since it does not require special skills and knowledge. Even the most ordinary wooden lounger for a summer residence can be made from a material that is sure to be found in any household.

But in any case, you will have to prepare for this work, because without drawings you are unlikely to be able to make exactly the deck chair that you want, especially if you do not have the slightest experience in this matter.

A homemade deck chair for a summer residence is much preferable to a store lounger, because you can decide for yourself how it should turn out, and upon completion of the work, decorate it at your discretion. Of course, this will require some effort on your part, but in the end, all this will be offset by the comfort that your homemade deck chair.

What is rest under open sky and what a deck chair means in this context, there is no need to repeat. But for a person who knows at least a little how to craft, it may be easier to design a deck chair with his own hands than to buy a ready-made one. And it's not just about money. available outlets it may simply not turn out to be one in which, well, just like that, you want to lie down and relax. Yes, there is, of course, online trading. But what will come to you, in terms of ergonomics, may turn out to be completely different from what it looked like in the picture. In general, furniture and leisure items (not to mention medical ones) should not be bought in absentia. Unless the seller guarantees the return of 100% of the payment without any explanation from the buyer. Okay, write science fiction for science fiction, and for us - closer to the point.

Products, similar topics, which is in the photo below, we will not consider. For one simple reason - their manufacture requires working conditions. And at home it will hardly cost less than buying ready-made. Even if you are a skilled craftsman and own everything essential tool. But a deck chair made in a day (maximum over a weekend) from improvised materials on a balcony or in a garage can be no less comfortable, look no worse, and will probably cost no more than a third of the price of such a purchase. That's what we're going to do. Including couples and children.

Soft or hard?

The first question to be decided is whether, so to speak, the seating surface of the lounge chair will be hard or soft. On the one hand, this is determined by the purpose and nature of the use of the product; on the other hand, the soft/hard choice determines the choice design sun lounger. His bed/seat can be either soft cloth or hard typesetting of wooden planks. A soft bed, if done correctly, absorbs well, removes and, like a wick, evaporates grease; a soft lounge chair is cheaper, easier to make (especially folding), it takes less space in storage. But - it is unlikely that you will be able to fully relax in a soft deck chair for more than 2-3 hours; why - see below. In general, in terms of the combination of qualities, it is soft - the best deck chair for giving (you still don’t lie there all day long) and as a portable one, for example. for fishing, also see below.

It is more difficult to make a hard deck chair, the materials for it will cost more, and for its storage in the winter you will need a fairly large room. But on the other hand, a hard deck chair can be extremely ergonomic: it is possible to lie on it all day or quickly and have a good rest after hard work. Provided that it is covered with a terry sheet or a cover made of upholstery fabrics for cabinet furniture - flock, microfiber, etc. Otherwise, on a hot day, you will have to get up, tearing your sweaty back off the sticky tree, which is not very pleasant.

Note: hybrid of both, possessing almost all of them positive qualities, but bulky - a deck chair on a tubular frame, see fig. But structurally and ergonomically, this product is closer to hammocks and rocking chairs.

Varieties

A chaise lounge is, roughly speaking, either a trestle bed with an adjustable headrest, or an armchair with an adjustable camber of the seat and back (with one exception, see below). Chaise lounge-trestle bed is performed preim. hard; chaise lounge chair - soft.

The main types of design of deck chairs are shown in the figure:

A simple deck chair-trestle bed (pos. 1) is extremely economical: it may take only 2-3 hours of time and materials for 100-200 rubles to make it. (depending on what you already have at hand), see for example. video:

Video: homemade sun lounger for 100 rubles

For ease of use and transportation, armrests, footboards, shelves, pos. 2. This significantly increases the cost and complicates its manufacture, but does not improve ergonomics at all: you lie down on such an hour and a half, you have to get up - and you groan, your lower back hurts. However, there is a very simple trick that can greatly improve the ergonomics of a simple sun lounger-trestle bed, see below.

Anatomical deck chair-trestle bed (pos. 3) allows you to quickly, within half an hour or an hour, recuperate after hard work or take a sunbath all day without becoming ossified. But structurally it is the most complex, material and labor intensive. Chaise longue "anatomical type" with a broken, rather than smoothly profiled bed (pos. 4) is structurally not much simpler, but in terms of ergonomics it is worse than even a simple straight line; the angular dip under the “fifth point” is especially felt.

Of the soft sun loungers, the most common is universal (garden), pos. 5. In fact, a soft beach chair is universal, pos. 6, but to make it more difficult: it is necessary not only to increase the maximum camber of the back and seat, but also to add steps for its adjustment, see fig. on right.

The chaise lounge for fishing is made almost exclusively soft (item 7 in the previous figure), keeping in mind its weight and dimensions and ease of transportation. In a fishing lounger, firstly, the seat depth is less, and the back height is greater. Secondly, their collapse and slopes, especially if the deck chair is homemade, are set for themselves once and for all. The reason - does not peck, does not peck, suddenly - it's gone! And, it seems, the chub (or bream) leads, which must be hooked very skillfully and carefully. And from a garden or beach deck chair, after relaxing, you will not rise quickly, smoothly and silently.

Chaise longue or armchair?

Very ergonomic and at the same time structurally quite simple so-called garden chairs. Adirondack type, or simply Adirondack chairs (see the figure on the right); they were invented by the inhabitants of the Adirondacks North America. You can sit in an Adirondack chair for a day, admiring the landscape (the local ones are worth it, look at least at Rockwell Kent’s painting “Adirondack Autumn”), and get out of it fresh, cheerful.

Note: Adirondack garden chair and without a footrest completely replaces a deck chair. On its armrests, vessels with a drink, dishes with a snack are quite conveniently placed. Make an adirondack chair with your own hands under the power of an amateur master middle class. Therefore, although there are other publications about garden chairs, here we also give drawings of the Adirondack garden chair made of wood:

materials

Next, we will look at how a deck chair is made of wood. Sun loungers on metal base much more labor intensive. The frame (frame) of a deck chair made of ordinary steel, under normal conditions of its operation, quickly corrodes despite any painting, and profiles made of corrosion-resistant metals will cost more than very high-quality wooden blanks, see below. The only exception is a deck chair for fishing (weight and dimensions!); it is better to do it on a frame of aluminum pipes, see e.g. video:

Video: homemade deck chair for fishing

<

But the choice of material for a wooden deck chair is also not easy. And the question immediately arises: solid or re-glued plywood? The first is more solid, but it is more difficult for him to pick up the material. A chaise longue made of re-glued plywood is more laborious, but more technologically advanced, especially in the case of an anatomical chaise longue; material for it will cost less than high-quality wood.

array

Ordinary timber for a deck chair is of little use - it is not sufficiently resistant to regular alternating loads (after all, houses and sheds are not dragged from place to place, they are not folded and hidden for the winter). In terms of mechanical and chemical resistance, larch would be suitable for a deck chair, but its wood, like that of other conifers, quickly fades and turns gray from solar ultraviolet radiation.

From domestic hardwoods, oak and beech are suitable, provided they are impregnated 2-3 times with a water-polymer emulsion (WPE). The last name is not entirely clear, and the first one is a bit long, so now VPE goes on sale under the name Ecogrunt. This is the same substance, suitable for impregnating everything even a little porous - from concrete to soft wood.

Note: walnut and hornbeam, which are also sufficiently resistant in terms of mechanics, chemistry and light, are unsuitable for outdoor furniture, because easily attacked by pests.

Hevea

There would be no need to talk about tropical species like teak due to their high cost and the fact that in the Russian Federation they are supplied almost exclusively in products. Recently, however, hevea wood has appeared in sufficient quantities on the wood market. This Brazilian tree is known as the best rubber-bearing plant, but Seringero suicide bomber armies are no longer sent to the wilds of the Amazon for "wild" latex. Hevea is grown on plantations in the humid tropics around the world, and when the trees are exhausted from regular cutting, they are cut down and sold as commercial timber; partially - dissolved into ornamental blanks.

Note: why are these rubber miners - seringeros - suicide bombers? Amazonia is a real green hell, teeming with deadly diseases and creatures. Here is an example - during the Second World War, when the demand for natural rubber increased dramatically, only Ford Motor Co. sent 30 thousand Seringero to the Amazonian selva. Of these, according to official American data, 283 people (less than 1%) survived. But, by the way, this hell is the main supplier of oxygen to the Earth's atmosphere. All other tropical forests, together with the taiga, give it almost three times less, and the ocean, as it turned out, consumes almost all of its oxygen itself.

The advantages of hevea as an ornamental tree are undeniable:

There is only one drawback of hevea wood: its trees on plantations are depleted young, at the age of 5-10 years. Therefore, hevea does not enter the market as building long blanks. But for the manufacture of a deck chair, this is not essential.

Note: if you walk through furniture stores, you will find that 10,000 rubles. for a hevea seating chair, it's still not quite expensive. But it immediately turns out that a dining table made from it, from the same set, for which 10-15 times more wood was used, costs 18,000 rubles. Aha! We are looking on the Internet to see if hevea blanks are sold. It turns out - yes, and the prices are reasonable.

Plywood

Here, too, a choice arises: is birch bakelized moisture resistant (aviation)? It is very expensive, does not bend well and often cracks on a bend. Building pine? It fades and turns gray in the light, like any coniferous tree, and is also not very cheap. Packing from "junk" wood (alder, aspen, poplar)? Cheap, bends, figuratively speaking, knit even with bonds. Fragile, unstable to mechanics, chemistry, pests? After some additional processing, quite doable at home (see below), it will be quite suitable for a deck chair. Especially for the anatomical one, in the design of which there are curvilinear details, and the concentrated loads are much smaller in magnitude than in the soft one.

Impregnation and sawing

It is obvious that packaging plywood needs to be impregnated for strength and moisture resistance. It is not difficult to guess that the best impregnation in this case is the same Ecosoil (VPE): cheap, safe (you can work in a living room with children), effective enough for a deck chair. It is impregnated with a plaster brush 2-3 times on each side with an interval of 15-30 minutes and dried for a day (at temperatures above 25 degrees and humidity up to 60%, you can dry overnight).

And here is the first secret - you need to impregnate a whole sheet or part of it, intended for a deck chair. Yes, before sawing into workpieces. Why? Anyone who has ever worked with an electric jigsaw knows how much sawdust it gives and how they scatter + the pungent smell of scorched wood. When sawing, impregnated plywood produces dust and stinks much less. It’s easier with a circular saw, but not everyone has it, it doesn’t make a curved cut, and all the same, the less sawdust, the better.

About the jigsaw

If you are only planning to purchase a jigsaw (which will come in handy in so many cases), then, having taken it in your hands, do not cut it clean right away, practice on scraps and waste. The electric jigsaw is capricious no less than manual. The first cuts can generally go to the sides, then they will go slightly wavy. There is no use from a laser marker - it literally goes astray in the first centimeters of the cut, even if you have a “cool” Bosch or Makita. But, fill your hand under your own, namely your own, tool - and your friends will not believe that this is done by hand, and not on a cutting machine.

plywood

Plywood parts will gain full moisture resistance after complete drying of the impregnation, after 2-3 days. But for the necessary strength, they need to be glued from plywood strips. The best glue, again in this case, is mounting PVA. It is sold in hardware stores under the names "Construction", "Reinforced", "PVA D2". Its important advantage is comparatively, for example. with liquid nails and other nitro-based adhesives - not dried PVA is completely washed off with water. Got on clothes - wash under the tap; on the carpet - wipe several times with a wet swab or walk with a washing vacuum cleaner.

Mounting PVA has a somewhat gelatinous consistency and dries to full strength for a long time, the same 2-3 days. According to the usual technology, the parts to be glued are kept until the glue is tack free (this is approx. 20 minutes), and then for at least a day under pressure. Considering that for gluing, say, beams 24 mm thick, you need 4 strips of plywood 6 mm thick, and the home master does not have a lot of clamps and weights for weights, then the manufacture of a deck chair can be delayed until the time when it will be necessary to think about insulation, boxes / screens for radiators, etc.

Not just nails

All parts for a plywood deck chair can be re-glued in a day, and the next day the product itself can be assembled, if metal fasteners are used to fasten the glued parts with compression. But the heads of the usual self-tapping screws will either stick out in plain sight, or they will need to be puttied and painted over. Over time, they will rust, but the main thing is that a large number of thick ribbed fasteners will inevitably weaken the parts.

These problems will not arise if you use the so-called. finishing nails. They are also sold in hardware stores, and if they cut off “No!” or look in surprise, explain: “Yes, these are the ones with which platbands are nailed to MDF doors! Nails for platbands!”

"Cash" nails are made of bronze (these are more expensive) or high-quality stainless steel; their heads and necks are shaped somewhat differently than those of conventional construction. Therefore, finishing nails very rarely bend and do not prick the material, even if the hammer is in the hands of a “full kettle”. And one more thing - the finishing nails are anodized in different colors, so you can pick up invisible ones on your material (see fig.). Finishing nails are available in different sizes; the most popular ones are from 12x0.6 to 25x1, which is just right for assembling plywood parts by plywood.

Gluing

Plywood parts from strips are glued using finishing nails. way (see also fig.):

  • Let's say we need a beam 25 mm thick - we prepare 4 strips of plywood 6 mm thick, the missing 1 mm will give layers of glue;
  • We lubricate with glue and put together 3 strips (on the left in the figure), it is not necessary to withstand until tacky;
  • We fasten with finishing nails 15x0.7 (0.8) with a snake in increments of 200-300 mm, but at least 3 attachment points per part. If our beam is up to 600 mm long, only 3 nails will be needed, arranged in the form of a stretched letter Λ, in the center in fig;
  • Similarly, we attach the last strip on the opposite side. We arrange the attachment points in a mirror image of the original, i.e. nail heads form a stretched V;
  • With a wet swab, remove the squeezed out residues of glue;
  • We set aside the assembled blank of the part to dry and make the next one.

Note: the workpiece assembled in this way is, in principle, suitable for final processing immediately, only wet glue stains the tool.

What if it's crooked?
Bent glued plywood parts are also assembled in a similar way, but it is impossible to overdry them after impregnation: within 1-2 days, the VPE-impregnated plywood remains quite plastic, but then it becomes more rigid and brittle than “raw”. The technology for manufacturing bent parts of deck chair flooring depends on how this very flooring is assembled: transverse frame or longitudinal in place, see below. Longitudinal flooring is quickly assembled directly on the finished frame of the product; transverse on the frame is much more laborious.

Strips of longitudinal flooring are nailed one after another directly to the supporting beams of the frame with the same finishing nails. The finished product is dried for a day, sanded, varnished or painted - and you're done. To assemble the parts (lamellas) of the transverse flooring, you need to prepare a plaz - a flat wooden shield of a suitable size. Then:

  1. On the plaza, the contours (profiles) of the flooring lamellas are beaten off. Because lamellas cannot be removed from the plaza until the glue is completely dry; the plaza needs to be large enough;
  2. The plaza is covered with a transparent PE film;
  3. Along the lines of the profiles of the lamellas, wooden blocks are nailed - rats (this is a technical term). Rats are placed on one side of the profile line in those places where the frame support beams will be under the lamellae. The height of the rat is equal to the width of the lamella; thickness - the thickness of the beam.
  4. The first strip of plywood is simply nailed to the rats with finishing nails;
  5. Subsequent strips are smeared with glue before attaching;
  6. After 2-3 days (in this case, you need to wait for the glue to cure at least 85%), the blanks, together with the rats, are torn off from the plaza;
  7. The rats are knocked down or (better) carefully torn off with a sharp nail puller;
  8. The oblique / bent ends of the nails are cut off, the straight ones are used to attach the lamellas to the beams.

Making a soft deck chair

The easiest thing to do for a summer residence, fishing and, possibly, a free beach nearby is a soft deck chair. Its cloth bed is sewn from tarpaulin or other durable cotton fabric. Linen canvas is of little use - it is resistant, but rather rough, but at the same time slippery, which can result in scuffs on the body. Furniture flock and microfiber are perfect, but quite expensive.

Typical dimensions of a universal (see above) soft chaise longue are given in the figure:

But in the design shown there, there is a zest: no need for locksmith work and simplified carpentry. The details of the back-seat camber regulator (highlighted in bluish-gray on the right in the figure) are wooden because the oak (or beech) locking rod does not rest on the holes at the points, as usual, but on the rails along the entire length; the rest of the metal fasteners are ready-made purchased (M6 bolts with pressure washers and nuts for them). By arranging the regulator rails in a different way or simply stuffing them more, you can achieve any camber adjustment limit and the number of its steps from those indicated above. Most of the structural details are made of 40x25 timber, except for the head and knee screeds - they are fastened with pairs of confirmatory furniture screws and therefore are made of 60x30 or 80x40 boards (in section).

Headrest

Achilles' heel of soft chaise lounges - head and popliteal supports-screeds. If the patella does not really interfere, then the headrest is very felt by the neck or the back of the head. Therefore, the headrest of a soft chaise longue is almost always made double (which, by the way, also increases the transverse rigidity of the structure) and turns into a bed fabric, see Fig. change at least every season.

Note: drawings of a soft garden deck chair of a classical design are given in the figure:

Without adjustment

A soft garden-cottage chair for one person or several of similar height, corpulence and complexion can be quickly made unregulated from improvised materials. An example of this kind of design is shown in the video:

Video: homemade deck chair to give

One of the commentators of this video states that this deckchair is prone to transverse parallelogram folding. Why he called the horizontal transverse axis the z-axis, he knows better. But in the described design, there are enough cross-links of rigidity and at least 3 virtual boxes can be distinguished that prevent exactly parallelogram folding. Who did not study building mechanics, just look at any panel or monolithic house. Where are the oblique / diagonal slabs, beams, columns? But it's worth it. And if it collapses from excessive influence from the outside, then it is in no way parallelogram.

Let's move on to anatomy.

It is much more difficult to make a hard anatomical deck chair than a soft one, and you cannot carry / carry it with you, but rest in it will be much more pleasant and complete. First, let's define the purpose of the product. To relax after hard work and / or elderly people, you need a deck chair with a low back and a deep dip under the pelvic region, pos. And in fig. For the beach and relaxation in general, a deck chair with a raised back and a small smooth ledge under the lower back is more suitable. In the first case, it is necessary to ensure the outflow of blood from the loaded (possibly sick) legs; in the second - to prevent its rush to the legs. Of course, the best will be a transformable deck chair, which allows you to implement one or another anatomical scheme.

Note: pre-liberal Americans put their feet on the table at every opportunity not at all their rudeness. Then they only had managers not lower than the middle level who worked sitting in a chair, and the rest, like wolves, were fed by their legs.

Topchan

Let's start with a simple one, without any physiological and anatomical subtleties. You can quite well relax on an ordinary beach trestle bed, but is it possible to somehow improve it without complicating and increasing the cost?

Drawings of a simple beach chair-trestle bed with an adjustable headboard are given on the left in the figure, and on the right in the same place - with the same improvement that makes the bed more ergonomic. Specifically, with slightly profiled sidewalls. In this case, it is better to use an ordinary combat board on the tsargs, 2-3 times soaked with eco-primer; flooring - from slats 30x30 or 40x40. This deck chair will either be painted or varnished with acrylic varnish for outdoor use in 3-4 layers; in this case, the wood will not fade in 4-6 years.

Frame or beams?

Frame in Russian frame without any Hi-Tech. It is now customary to call frame structures with a supporting frame and non-working skin; again in Russian frame.

Frame carrier schemes (see, for example, on the left in the figure) are widely used in furniture production, incl. anatomical lounge chairs economy and middle price segment, due to the minimum consumption of material; their labor intensity in automated production is also low. The flooring on the frame frame (claims about the tautology - to the authors of the term) can be laid from longitudinal or transverse lamellas. But for an amateur working in a garage or on a balcony, the frame design is clearly complicated.

If you look closely at the photos of expensive / elite anatomical deck chairs, it turns out that most of them are made according to the beam scheme with a working longitudinal planking of the flooring (on the right in the figure); the transverse beams are laid on the drawers without a tie-in and are attached to them with self-tapping screws. The point here is not only and not so much in the "steepness of the grandmas" - rest on a deck chair with a longitudinal flooring is much more complete, because. the ribs of the lamellas are not felt by the body already through a single-layer terry blanket. In addition, the lamellas can be made from a single layer of 6 mm plywood and are mounted plastic immediately after impregnation without a plaza right in place, see above. But the flooring of the bed of a beam deck chair can only be longitudinal, because. his cover is working.

Note: in fact, the only case when the bed of an anatomical deck chair is possible only from transverse lamellae is a quick-assembly / collapsible deck chair like the one in fig. on the right or shown in the video below:

Design examples

Master furniture makers, both amateurs and professionals, rarely apply the canons meticulously and scrupulously. Any product of human hands requires a creative approach, and in the practical designs of deck chairs, the basic principles of their construction are applied with various combinations and modifications.

For example, a deck chair, the drawings of which are given in Fig., can be classified as partially transformable. The profile of its tsarg (on the right in the figure) is chosen so that, depending on the inclination of the bed, this deck chair is suitable for both deep rest and thoughtless relaxation. The power circuit is combined: a small number of transverse beams (not support ones) work in conjunction with the flooring of the bed from thin boards (better - plywood lamellas). As a result, the design is technologically simple and low material consumption.

On the trail. rice. - an example of a different approach to the same problem: a rocking chair (cell side of the section drawing is 100 mm; flooring from 30x40 slats). Here the “mechanism of transformation” is the resting person himself: leaning back or leaning forward, he chooses for himself (perhaps unconsciously) the most comfortable position. Swinging, you can combine both types of recreation. If a deck chair is under a tree, then the psychological relaxation from contemplating the fluttering foliage against the sky will enhance and complement the physiological one.

For the elderly and / or people who are very tired of physical labor, a deck chair is more suitable - a recumbent rocking chair with a canopy (see fig.). If the body aches, the legs are filled with lead, and, moreover, the romantic illusions of youth are behind, the flickering in front of the eyes and the bright light in them only irritate, but when the fatigue subsides, the canopy canopy can be rolled up “to suit the mood”.

Drawings of a mobile double sun lounger with a folding canopy

A massive structure that can be rolled into a secluded corner, a strong elastic bed woven from a rope (preferably a propylene cross lay); in such a deck chair, a vacation together can be very, very active. And over time, its natural result will be to the taste of an anatomical children's deck chair (sidewall profile in the figure below; cell 10x10 cm, dimensions also in cm).

How nice after a hard day's work to retire in the garden or sit on the lawn by the pond in order to relax, unwind and enjoy the sounds of nature. And what piece of garden furniture do most people associate with a comfortable stay? Yes, garden chair! A comfortable portable elongated chair, in addition to its direct functional value, will act as a spectacular exterior element that emphasizes the style of a summer cottage. There is nothing difficult in making a garden chair with your own hands. We have selected for you several options for easy-to-make sun loungers. Among them, it will not be difficult to choose a suitable model, which anyone can build.

Such a deck chair can be safely used instead of a bed: a flat surface, an adjustable backrest. What else do you need for an afternoon break?! The only drawback of this design is that it is very problematic to move around the site yourself.

Chaise lounges of this design are very popular, both among vacationers on the sea coast and among the owners of suburban areas.

But there is a way out! We suggest considering the option of a deck chair equipped with rollers. To make a sun lounger, you need to prepare:

  • 18 mm thick laminated spruce boards;
  • Wooden bars 45x45 mm (for the frame);
  • Boards 25 mm thick for sidewall sheathing;
  • Electric jigsaw and screwdriver;
  • Drills with a diameter of 40 mm for woodworking;
  • 4 fixing corners for beds;
  • Countersunk head screws;
  • 4 rollers 100 mm high;
  • Sanding sheet grit 120-240;
  • Varnish or paint for woodworking.

Slabs of the required size can be purchased at a carpentry workshop or at the construction market. When choosing plates, it is better to give preference to coniferous products, since they are more resistant to precipitation.

The size of the deck chair depends on the desire of its owner. In most cases, the design is made in the size of 60x190 cm. Having decided on the dimensions of the deck chair, we make two long and two short sidewalls from wooden bars. From them we assemble the frame of the structure, fixing it together with the help of mounting corners. We cover the outer side of the frame with boards.

On long slats at a distance of 5-8 cm from the corner, we fasten the legs of a deck chair, the material for the manufacture of which was bars 5-10 cm long

We fix the legs to the boards using screws 60 mm long.

We mount the wheels: we install rollers in the center of the short legs of the deck chair, fixing them with screws 30 mm long, equipped with a semicircular head with a diameter of 4 mm

To make a wooden grate, using an electric jigsaw, we cut boards 60x8 cm in size from plates.

We attach the planks to the lounger on self-tapping screws, leaving a gap of 1-2 cm. To maintain the gap, it is most convenient to use special spacers

When planning to make a deck chair with an adjustable back, the lattice should be divided into two parts: a sunbed and a headboard. We put both parts on connecting boards and fasten them together with a door hinge.

To equip the mounting plate between the long bars of the deck chair frame, we fix the transverse rail. On the mounting plate we fix the support post, fixing it on both sides with screws

The finished deck chair can only be processed by walking with a grinder, and opened with varnish or paint.

We invite you to watch a video that shows how such a deck chair model is assembled:

Option # 2 - fabric chaise lounge on the frame

Another no less popular model of a deck chair that can be folded, giving an almost flat shape.

It is convenient to move a light chair around the site, choosing open sunny glades for relaxation, or, on the contrary, shaded and hidden corners in the garden from prying eyes

To make a folding deck chair, you need to prepare:

  • Rectangular slats 25x60 mm thick (2 parts 120 cm long, two 110 cm each and two 62 cm each);
  • Reiki of circular cross section with a diameter of 2 cm (one piece 65 cm long, two - 60 cm each, two - 50 cm each);
  • A piece of durable fabric measuring 200x50 cm;
  • Nuts and furniture bolts D8 mm;
  • Fine-grained sandpaper and a round file;
  • PVA glue.

Reiki is best made from hardwood species, which include birch, beech or oak. For the manufacture of a deck chair, it is better to use fabrics that are characterized by increased strength and resistance to abrasion. For example: canvas, tarpaulin, jeans, mattress teak, camouflage.

We cut the slats of the required length. Using sandpaper, carefully sand the surface.

According to the scheme, where A and B denote the main frames, C represents the stop-regulator, we assemble the main structural elements

In the long rails of the main frames at a distance of 40 and 70 cm from the corners of the structure, we drill holes with a diameter of 8 mm, and then grind them with a round file.

In order to be able to change the position of the back in the deck chair, in frame B we make 3-4 cutouts at a distance of 7-10 cm. To equip the seat, we drill holes with a diameter of 2 cm, stepping back from the two ends of the rails. We install crossbars in the holes - round slats, the ends of which were previously lubricated with PVA glue.

Let's start assembling the deck chair: we connect parts A and B with the help of screws inserted through the upper holes. By the same principle, we connect parts A and B, only through the lower holes

The frame is assembled. It remains only to cut and sew the seat. The length of the cut is determined by the possibility of folding. Too short a cut will not allow the deck chair to fold, and an excessively long one will sag in the disassembled position. To determine the optimal length, you need to fold the deck chair and measure the fabric: it should be slightly stretched, but without effort.

We nail a piece of fabric with processed edges to round slats located on parts A and B. To do this, we wrap the crossbars with the edge of the cut, and then fix them with small carnations with thick caps. A variant is possible in which “loops” are made at the edges of the cut and put on the crossbars.

Option #3 - Kentucky Folding Chair

The original chair is assembled entirely from bars. If necessary, the chair can always be folded and put away for storage.

The advantage of such a garden chair is that, when disassembled, it does not take up much space, while the design is designed in such a way that it allows you to completely relax your muscles.

To make a chair, we need:

  • Wooden bars measuring 45x30 mm;
  • Galvanized wire D 4 mm;
  • 16 pieces of galvanized wire clamps;
  • Fine-grained sandpaper;
  • Hammer and cutters.

For the manufacture of a chair, bars of 50x33 mm in size are also quite suitable, which can be obtained by sawing a 50x100 mm board into three equal parts. The total length of the bars should be 13 meters.

Instead of galvanized wire and staples, galvanized studs can be used, the edges of which are fixed with eight nuts and washers.

To determine the required number and length of wooden bars, it is convenient to use the pivot table. According to the drawing, we make through holes

The diameter of the holes should be 1.5-2 mm larger than the thickness of the wire used. Having prepared the required number of bars, you should carefully process all the edges, sanding the surface with fine-grained sandpaper.

Let's start building the structure.

For clarity, we use the assembly diagram of the seat with dividers, as well as the back of the chair. The dotted lines indicate the places of through holes with a wire threaded through them.

On a flat surface, according to the scheme, we lay out the bars for arranging the seat. Passing wire through through holes

By the same principle, we assemble seats with separators, connecting wooden bars with pieces of galvanized wire

The main structural elements are assembled. We take the ends of the wire, holding the sides of the structure, and carefully raise the chair.

It remains only to cut off the excess wire with wire cutters, and then bend and secure the ends with galvanized staples

Chaise lounge for a summer residence: 8 do-it-yourself models

The garden chair is ready. If desired, it can be coated with a semi-matt varnish for woodworking. This will significantly extend the life of such a popular element of garden furniture.
