All about door closers for entrance doors. Choosing a door closer: types and principle of operation Operating principle and design

Door closers - devices that ensure smooth closing of doors - are quite popular, but not everyone knows what they are and, accordingly, where they can be used. We will talk about this, as well as how to correctly select, install and operate a door closer, in our article.

What could be worse than a loud slamming door? Perhaps the only one that never closes at all. Therefore, on the one hand, I would like the door to close itself, thereby saving heat, and on the other hand, this process would be silent. Previously, to solve these problems they used complex systems with counterweights - bulky and therefore not applicable at home. Therefore, banal door springs were installed in houses and apartments, closing the doors, but doing it very loudly.

With the advent of door closers, all problems were solved. Moreover, their low price, reliability and ease of installation made it possible to use them not only on entrance doors, for example, at the entrance, but in general on any doors that require silent automatic closing, including interior doors.

In addition to the listed qualities, door closers, depending on the design, are capable of solving a number of other problems:

  • dual-range closing speed adjustment (acceleration at the moment of slamming);
  • protecting the door from hitting an obstacle;
  • locking the door in the open position.

Operating principle of door closers

The main working element of any closer is the spring. It is this that, when the door is opened, contracts and accumulates energy, which, if the door is released, will return it to its original closed state. To ensure that the door closes smoothly and does not slam, the door closers have the second most important element - an oil shock absorber. Through a valve system, oil flows from one chamber to another when the door is opened, and then back when closed. The viscosity of the shock-absorbing fluid gives the process the necessary smoothness, which leads to silent closing of the door. There are door closers that have not one shock absorber, but several - this does not change the essence. IN various devices the working spring is activated by its mechanism. In fact, it is he who determines the type of closer in structural terms.

Design door closer: 1 — lever rod; 2 — adjustment of closing force; 3 — spring block; 4 - gear drive; 5 — needle bearing; 6 — closing speed adjustment; 7 — aftershock adjustment

Types of door closers

Upper

When we say “door closer,” we usually mean this type. Working housing installed above the door or on door leaf(depending on the installation option), and the lever system that transmits force to the spring, in fact, this is the entire description of the design of this type of closers.

Based on the design of the mechanism for transmitting force to the spring, upper closers are divided into:

  1. Closers with gear drive. In them, the lever is connected to a gear, which drives either a toothed pin with a spring or a piston with teeth. Simple and reliable design makes these door closers the most popular today.

  1. With sliding rod. The axis is a cam heart-shaped shaft that drives the spring, and two pistons: opening and braking, make the design of such a closer less cumbersome and more reliable. To date, door closers with a sliding rod have not yet become widespread, but over time they should replace gear-driven devices.

Floor-standing

Absolutely invisible floor closers allow them to be used wherever door design is an issue special place. Most often they can be found in shopping centers— department doors are equipped with just such devices. In fact, they are the ancestors of door closers with a sliding rod; in any case, they borrowed their design from floor-mounted ones. Unlike overhead closers, there are no levers that drive the axis of the floor closer. The door is fixed directly on this axis. This design allows them to be used with doors weighing up to 300 kg, but it also imposes its limitations on the scope of application.

Hidden

Where the presence of a door closer should be as inconspicuous as possible, in addition to floor closers, hidden ones can be used. They can be roughly divided into two categories:

  1. Concealed with sliding rod. In essence, they are no different from similar overhead closers, except that they have a more miniature design that can be hidden in an array of door leafs or door frame ki.

  1. Loop-closer. The smallest device. The entire mechanism is hidden in the hinge body. A very promising view, since installing a closer does not require additional work for drilling and chiseling the door leaf, except for those necessary for the hinges themselves. Due to their specificity, they have several disadvantages that limit their scope of application: they cannot be installed on massive doors; due to the requirements for miniature size, they have a relatively small working resource; very demanding on the careful installation of the door leaf.

Classification of closers

It is quite obvious that all doors are different in their parameters: weight and size. For different doors different closers are required: for more massive ones - with greater opening/closing force, for lighter ones - with less. Actually, based on this, closers are divided into classes:

It should be noted that when choosing, you need to focus on a larger parameter, that is, for a door, for example, with a width of 1000 mm and a weight of 105 kg, a 6th class door closer is required.

When choosing, you should not buy a door closer with a reserve. As it may seem at first glance, you will not increase the resource by doing this, but you will have to make excessive efforts to open the door.

Basic principles of installing door closers

Installing a door closer is a rather complicated process. How correctly this is done will depend not only on the service life of the closer itself, but also on the door. Excessive force during operation may damage door hinges, deform the door leaf. But everything is not as scary as it seems at first glance.

It should be noted that the installation of floor and hidden closers is the job of professionals; the operations that need to be performed are very specific. For floor-mounted ones, this means embedding the closer into the floor before installing the door, plus exact calculation location of the axis of rotation. For hidden ones - marking the location at the end of the door leaf and creating a recess for it. For the door-closer hinge, precise selection of the angle of inclination of the door plane. Therefore, we will consider in more detail the basic principles and nuances of installing an overhead door closer.

First of all, you need to understand that there is no door on which a closer cannot be installed. Right and left, opening inward or outward - each has its own way.

Here, for example, is the left door, opening inward, which has a small width door frame. In this case, the closer body is placed on the door leaf:

And this is a variant of the front door. Since negative temperatures do not affect in the best possible way When working as a door closer, it becomes clear that it must be installed indoors. The door itself should open outward. The following installation option is possible:

For convenience, the door closer itself usually comes with an installation diagram.

All you need to do is decide on the type of door you have, transfer the diagram onto the door leaf and frame and, strictly following the included instructions, secure the body and closer levers in the right places.

There are several nuances that should be discussed separately.

Firstly, this is fasteners. The higher the force applied to the door when opening, the heavy load falls on fasteners. There are often cases when the self-tapping screws included in the kit are simply torn out. The reliability of the fastening should be taken care of in advance. In some cases, it makes sense to replace standard screws with more powerful ones. When installing a door closer on a plastic door, it is better to use not screws at all, but screws, which should go right through the door leaf and be secured with nuts through a large washer or mounting plate on the reverse side. This will give the necessary reliability to the fastening elements. Otherwise, after a couple of months, the standard fasteners will tear out of the hollow structure of the plastic profile.

Secondly. A completely logical question arises: what will happen if the closer is slightly moved along the top edge? doorway. It seems that by moving towards the hinges you can achieve easier opening of the door by increasing the lever arm. By moving it in the opposite direction, you can use a door closer of a smaller class than recommended due to the reduction of the shoulder. To simplify the understanding of the essence of the processes, you can take the axis of the closer as the axis of rotation of the door (in fact, this is not entirely true, but the difference in the calculations for this and for a more accurate case is very small). Then the force arm (this is the distance from the axis to the side edge of the door opposite the one where the hinges are installed) applied to the closer will change by the same amount as we move the closer. To estimate how many times this force will change, it is necessary to divide the length of the resulting arm by the length of the original one.

Example. Door 1000 mm wide. The closer is installed at the recommended distance of 160 mm according to the diagram. Force arm: 1000 - 160 = 840 mm. By moving the closer 50 mm towards the hinges, we will increase the shoulder by 890 / 840 = 1.06 times. This is exactly how many times it will become easier for you to open the door, and harder for the door closer to close it, that is, it is completely unimportant. By moving the closer in the other direction, you will also achieve little in terms of making the closer easier, but due to the limited pull rods of the levers, the door will no longer open to the required angle.

After installing the closer, the next step is to adjust it. Most devices for this have two screws - one for adjusting the speed of closing the door, the second for slamming. Using screwdrivers, the required values are achieved.

If the door closer has a locking function, then the work will include setting the trigger point for locking the door in the open position.

Operation and maintenance of the closer

You need to know that if there is an obstacle that interferes with the normal opening and closing of the door, then it must first be eliminated, and only then use the closer. For example, this could be the door leaf rubbing against the jamb, or some object in the way of the door. You should be careful about this, as such obstacles may appear during operation.

To avoid premature wear, do not leave the door open for a long period of time with the closer connected. The exception is those that have special design features(this applies more to floor closers, which are installed, as mentioned, on the entrance doors of stores and require such fixation for the entire working day).

Since seasonal temperature fluctuations can be quite significant, and the temperature environment The viscosity of the oil in the closer body depends, then for those located on the entrance doors, adjustment is required twice a year. In addition, it is necessary to ensure the lubrication of rotating and rubbing parts. If you do not carry out regular maintenance, the door closer may break prematurely.

As a rule, if the closer is faulty, then, unfortunately, it is not possible to repair it, only replace it. Signs of a breakdown will be oil leaks and the fact that it stops holding the door, and adjustment will not correct the situation.

Prices for door closers

In order to make it easier to choose a door closer, in conclusion you should indicate the prices for the products of the most common manufacturers.

Among the inexpensive ones is, for example, the Russian-Chinese company Apecs, which mainly produces overhead door closers. The price for them starts from 500 rubles. for the most simple models and reaches 1500 rubles. for closers of higher classes.

Among the branded manufacturers, we can highlight the German companies Dorma and Geze or the Italian company Cisa. The prices for their products are slightly higher - from 900 rubles. for the simplest overhead closers with a gear mechanism, and from 10,000 rubles. for devices with a sliding rod. Closer hinges are produced, for example, by Fuaro, and you can buy them for 600 rubles. per piece.

A door closer is a mechanism that is designed to close securely entrance doors. It presses the blade against the seals along the contour or creates the necessary force sufficient to trigger the lock latch. The door can close abruptly and with a sound, or smoothly and without making sounds, and can also pause.

Adjusting the door closer is a mandatory measure to extend the service life and maintain performance characteristics mechanism.

They act on him permanent loads, frequent closing and opening of the door leads to imbalance of the elements of the device, and therefore requires periodic maintenance and repair, both for preventive purposes and when necessary.

To understand the configuration issue, you first need to familiarize yourself with its classification.

They come in 2 types:

  • Cam slide. It is used for smooth closing of blocks in lightweight structures.
  • Toothed lever. Used for heavy fabric with codes, considered the most common.

According to the installation method, closers are divided into the following types:

  1. Top or overhead. Installation is carried out from above the structure.
  2. Floor-standing. Often attached to the bottom of blocks.
  3. Hidden or framed. They are located inside the frame or in the floor.

When adjustment is needed

Experts recommend adjusting the mechanism immediately after installing the door closer, and not only during operation of the doors. Inspection and correction of minor problems is carried out at least 2 times a year, and more often if there are frequent fluctuations in temperature indoors and outdoors. This is due to the fact that the lubricating fluid depends on the temperature parameters of the environment and affects the parts of the closer.

Carrying out seasonal adjustments is a regular part of maintenance.

With large temperature fluctuations, the front door mechanism quickly wears out and becomes faulty. Therefore, it is better, when the first signs of damage to the closer occur, to pull it to the desired position, check the tightness to detect oil leaks and eliminate the malfunction.

In case of complex breakdowns, adjusting the door closer on your own is ineffective. Experts recommend doing renovation work or replace it.

If problems arise with the device settings, the parameters are adjusted. This procedure is performed if the mechanism turns out to be difficult to open, as well as with a door that closes quickly and sharply or takes a long time to pull.

How to do it right

Adjusting the door closer, the instructions for which provide requirements for installation and adjustment of the mechanism, consists of the following steps:

  • Adjustment of block closing speed.
  • Setting the parameters for pressing the canvas to the box (latching).
  • Adjusting the intermediate stroke.

The procedure requires a minimum of tools - a screwdriver.

How to do it yourself

In order to understand how to adjust the door closer, you need to understand the design features of the device.

The mechanism consists of the following components and parts:

  1. spring;
  2. linkage;
  3. axial gear clutch;
  4. gear or cam mechanism;
  5. needle bearing;
  6. wind brake adjustment valve or damper;
  7. protective casing;
  8. lever;
  9. sealing rubber bands;
  10. adjusting screws;
  11. fasteners.

When working, you must adhere to strict rules instructions for installing and adjusting the device, which boils down to spring tension.

On the body of the closer, when adjusting, there are 2 adjusting screws, which are responsible for the speed of movement of the blade and the speed of closing. The first screw regulates the main stroke of the door from full opening 180° to 15°, and the second - its final closing. Some models also have a third screw to change the overall force.

The procedure is performed as follows:

  • Remove the cover from the mechanism.
  • Find the control valve. Check the diagram in the door mechanism instructions.
  • Turn screw No. 1 counterclockwise to adjust the doors to close smoothly, clockwise to adjust them quickly. It should be taken into account that more than 2 revolutions from the zero position cannot be made.
  • To delay the open door leaf for a certain amount of time, you need to tighten a special lock. Such actions are performed when the block is opened by 95-100°.
  • If the canvas needs to be kept open for a long time, use the “Hold-open” function. To do this, open the door 90-95° and tighten the lever lock.
  • Check that the mechanism is installed correctly.

Options

When adjusting the door closer with your own hands, significant attention is paid to such parameters as:

  1. closing force;
  2. closing speed;
  3. opening speed;
  4. maximum opening angle.

Closing speed is how quickly or slowly the doors close. The closing force allows you to adjust the device so that in the last 7-15° the speed increases and the lock latches.

For protection door block to prevent damage during sudden openings, the opening speed is adjusted. For this purpose, closers with a braking function, such as a “wind brake,” are installed on the entrance doors of buildings.

Adjustment of aftershock

Setting up the door closer to install the door closer ensures that the door leaf adheres to the frame and allows you to leave a small gap before slamming, i.e. does not completely close the door structure. By adjustment, you can adjust the slow closing of the block, reducing the force of the clap.

Using screw No. 2, you can adjust the speed at which the structure will slam shut. When 10-15° remain before the door leaf closes, the deceleration will work.

Features of some models

The most common door closers among users are “Dorma” TS-68, “Diplomat”, “GEZE” TS 4000. Each model has its own characteristics of regulating such devices.

"Dorma" TS-68 is a classic top-mounted model. Its peculiarity is that the mechanism is equipped with a special lever to change the door locking force.

The Diplomat model is characterized by simple installation and maintenance of the mechanism. Adjusting the door closer includes the stages of spring tension and opening and closing adjustments. Some modifications of the “Diplomat” do not have a clap setting. The devices operate on the principle of hydromechanics.

"GEZE" TS 4000 is a popular model of the upper door mechanism among users. The closer can adjust the opening damping, adjust the thermostable closing speed at the front and the final closing using a lever rod.

Doors that close effortlessly with a slight movement of the hand add solidity to the car and provide additional comfort for the driver and passengers. Smooth closing is ensured by special mechanisms - closers. These devices can be standardly installed by manufacturers in premium cars. However, owners of less expensive vehicles can independently install universal type door closers.

What is a car door closer?

The car door closer ensures that the vehicle is securely closed. Thanks to the installation of the mechanism, the owner will not have to repeatedly open and close the doors if they do not fit tightly to the body. If the force applied by a person was not enough to close the door, the device will complete the process on its own. For example, small children do not always cope with the heavy and bulky doors of SUVs. In this case, the closer mechanism will help them.

Universal door closer for cars from Slamstop.

Also, a car closer will provide soft, smooth and silent closing. The driver will no longer have to ask passengers to slam the door quietly. If the mechanism is installed in the trunk door, then to close it you only need to lightly press the door. The device will then complete the task on its own.

Advantages of using the design

It becomes clear that installing a door closer in a car has many advantages, including:

  • tight fit of the doors to the car body without any effort;
  • extending the service life of door mechanisms;
  • increased comfort;
  • better heat and noise insulation;
  • protection from dust and moisture.

Another advantage is the compact size of the device: the installation of a door closer will not be noticeable in the cabin.

What cars are door closers installed on?

Despite the convenience of the system, door closers are not installed on all cars. Most often, the mechanism is used in premium cars from manufacturers such as Mercedes, Audi, BMW and other major brands.

If the car does not have a standard door closer, the car owner can install it himself. In this case, you should purchase a universal mechanism suitable for any vehicle model.

Operating principle

The door closer starts working the moment the door closes to the first latch of the car lock. The door position sensor allows you to determine whether the car is closed or not. If there is a gap between the door and the body, an electrically driven sensor will operate, after which the closer, using a special cable, will pull the door until it is completely closed.

If problems arise in the operation of the door closing mechanism, reliable operation of the door closers cannot be fully ensured.

Design and types of car door closers

The mechanism that ensures tight closure consists of several main elements:

  • a sensor that determines the position of the door;
  • an electric drive that ensures the door is pulled;
  • a control unit that receives a signal from the sensor and sends a command to the electric drive.

On modern cars you can find two main types of door closing mechanisms.

  1. Electric is the most common option. It, in turn, can be based on:
    • a worm gearbox, which is installed on SUVs and crossovers instead of standard gas stops;
    • clamping mechanism (much more common).
  2. A hydraulic mechanism that includes an autonomous hydraulic system with a pump, electronic pressure regulation and a complex actuator. This device is expensive, so it is installed only on expensive sports cars.

Door closers can also be classified into:

  • universal;
  • created for the car model (installed standard at the factory).

Universal devices can be installed on any vehicle, regardless of its make and model.

What is a pinless closer

A pinless door closer can also be installed on almost every car. To attach the mechanism, you do not need to cut additional holes in the doors: it is installed in a standard lock. In this case, the mechanical part of the lock is replaced with an electrically driven device. Then the 12 volt power is connected. If the installation is done correctly, the pinless door closer will provide the owner with smooth closing of the doors.

The pinless closer is installed in the standard hole of the lock.

Door closer for cars – convenient device, which is installed as standard on premium segment cars. If the car does not belong to this class, the car owner can always install a universal door closer himself, which will also ensure that the doors close smoothly and tightly.

The closer is a device for returning the door to its original position in automatic operation mode. This device silently and softly closes the open sash. If necessary, it holds the door leaf open. Many doors are equipped with modern, practical devices. At the same time, like any technique, the closer needs maintenance, adjustment and troubleshooting.

Types of mechanisms and their design

To better understand the principle of operation of the mechanism, you need to analyze its basic varieties, this will make it easier to figure out how to properly debug a door closer.

For the most part, two types of this device are practiced:

  • cam slide - provides soft sliding, practiced for low-weight canvases;

  • gear lever - the most common type of mechanism; the movement of the spring is realized through gears; it can be used even for massive door leaves.

Depending on the method of installation, devices can be divided into three main types:

  • Overhead structures (overhead)- these are the most straightforward devices to use; their functions can be adjusted using several screws or valves located on the housing panel. They are mounted at the top of the sash, which is extremely convenient during installation. For street entrance doors, specialized oil-filled devices are manufactured, adapted for operation in hot or cold climates.

  • Floor-standing. Floor-mounted systems are also relatively easy to set up. They have performed excellently in banking institutions, offices, shopping and entertainment complexes and wherever appearance doors have high demands. These devices are integrated into the floor and are almost invisible to visitors. Sliding type regulator mechanisms are used and are intended for doors weighing no more than 100 kilograms.

  • Hidden devices It is quite problematic to adjust them yourself, since they are tucked inside the door leaf or into the floor, which complicates access to them. The devices are in demand where thorough cosmetic finishing and a perfect main façade.

According to the principle of operation of the device, they are as follows:

  • hydraulic;
  • pneumatic;
  • electric.

Fixture structure

In the structure of this device The following parts and mechanisms are included:

  • cast aluminum body;
  • spring;
  • piston;
  • adjusting screws (valve);

  • gears;
  • needle bearing;
  • rubber seals;
  • fastener

Operating principle of the closer

The basic component of the design is a spring system, which, when the door is opened, is compressed and accumulates the energy required to close the door. The compression process is carried out by transferring the force of the traction device to the spring. Toothed gears and racks move the piston, while oil flows through internal channels into the free part of the housing. During the reverse movement of the door, the spring straightens and ensures soft closing.

In what cases is the procedure necessary?

Adjusting the operation of the door closer is quite simple matter. Setup can be done without any problems with my own hands. It is worth understanding in what situations it may be necessary to adjust the parameters of this mechanism. The first thing to remember is that the duration of uninterrupted operation of any mechanism is directly based on the quality of its maintenance during the entire period of operation. As a result, 1–2 times a year it is necessary to inspect the closer and eliminate minor faults. This is especially important during the transitional change of seasons.

In summer and winter, climate conditions vary enormously. Most door closers are filled with oil, and as you know, any liquid changes its state when the ambient temperature changes. In particular, in winter the oil becomes thicker and the movement of the door leaf becomes slower. In summer, everything turns out the opposite, so you need to prepare the door closer to the required level. Adjusting the device is also necessary if you notice any malfunctions or you simply don’t like the settings. If the device begins to slow down or the door leaf closes too hard and quickly, intermittently, and does not close for a long time, you can try to correct all this. Things are somewhat more complicated when the device fails, because easy setup will no longer be effective and repair work will be required.

Instructions for setting up a door closer with your own hands

To adjust the device, it is not necessary to invite a specialist. It is enough just to have minimum set tools and certain skills. The entire procedure will take a minimum amount of time and will make it possible to achieve the desired result by following the steps listed below.

  • Before you begin the procedure itself, remember that the main thing is not to overdo it with the control valves (screws). It is acceptable to make only 2 turns, then difficulties may arise. The oil in the reservoir under pressure may spill out, and the hydraulic system of the closer will eventually lose its functionality.
  • To adjust the speed of closing the door leaf, you need to learn only one tendency - by twisting the valve in a clockwise direction, it will gradually decrease. If you perform the action in the opposite direction, the closing speed will increase.

  • There is a solution to the problem of only one person being able to get through. Since there is a third valve, the adjustment of which can ensure that the door remains in a fixed position certain time. Consequently, even a group of people will be able to freely enter the room.
  • Such a problem as a lack of effort to completely close the door leaf is eliminated by adjusting the valves responsible for the closing speed.

The key problem when adjusting the closer may be choosing the ideal solution. The main task is to close the door completely so that there are no gaps left. It is necessary to correctly select the ideal time that the door leaf can remain open. It is also necessary to make silent closing possible; hard impacts on the door frame are unacceptable. This may cause damage to the canvas. And the worst option may be the loss of functionality of the mechanisms responsible for proper operation.

How to adjust the closing force so that the door does not slam?

To set it up yourself, you will need a flat-head screwdriver or an Allen key. The door opens all the way, special valves located at the end of the device are secured. Full fixation is carried out with the door leaf closed. By changing the degree of tightening of the valves, you can adjust the door to extremely comfortable closing. Valve number 1 is responsible for the closing force of the door.

If a fully open door closes too quickly at the beginning, the valve must be tightened, and if it is slow and the speed needs to be increased, on the contrary, unscrew it. Valve number 2 is responsible for the speed of complete closing of the door leaf (slam). Some modifications have a third valve, which adjusts all the efforts of the door closer. When properly configured, the door leaf moves smoothly, without jerking. The result correct installation and proper setup of the closer will result in a long service life.

Important! The control valves must not be turned out completely. Otherwise, they will cease to fulfill their functional purpose even after returning to their place.

How to weaken the opening?

Quite often the closer requires additional adjustment. If the mechanism is working hard, and effort is required when opening the door, you need to release the valves, the door will begin to function smoothly. The valves can be placed at the end or on the front side, it all depends on the modification of the device. You can find out the location of the valves by looking in the manual, where the manufacturer indicates the location of all components and elements of the door closing mechanism.

Position open

At times there is a need for open door over a relatively long period of time. It is worth figuring out how to adjust the device so that the doors do not close, but remain open. In many modifications of closers there is an auxiliary hold open option for this. To set it to this mode, you need to open the door approximately 90 degrees, and then tighten the specialized lock. After such simple actions, it will be possible to leave the door leaf open when opening it to the configured degree. A special lock in the device will be activated and will hold the door in this position as long as necessary. If you need to close the door, you just need to pull it towards you, and it will be removed from the latch. If the door is not opened all the way, it will move in the same way as always, without stopping.

With the development of technology, human life has become much easier. With such a simple device as a door closer, you will forget about the need to double-check whether the doors are closed. Today, devices are available in several types and are represented by goods different manufacturers, differ by belonging to different price categories. Let's figure out how to install a door closer and adjust the door closer, how long this process will take and how difficult it is.

Main types of mechanisms and their internal structure

To choose a door closer option, you should first understand the types of mechanisms and their intended purpose. The choice should be based on the parameters of the door, namely? width and weight of the structure. In addition, please note temperature regime premises where installation and operation of the element is planned.

The main options for automatic closers include:

Peculiarity street closer for the door - equipped with a special mechanism lubricated with a liquid that increases resistance to high temperatures. That is, if you install such a lock designed for interior doors or used for installation on entrance doors with inside, outside, its performance will deteriorate significantly and its service life will be reduced.

Working principle of a door closer

This device is similar in its operation to the spring mechanism that was previously installed on gates and doors. The disadvantage of such a device was far from smooth closing, and sometimes there was a popping sound from the closing structure. As soon as modern automated systems, ensuring smooth door movement, the noise problem was solved by itself.

Main working part closer - a spring and an oil shock absorber, responsible for a smooth ride. Oily liquid circulating inside special valves flows from one chamber to another.

Features of mechanisms

To the number distinctive characteristics closers include:

  1. Oil circulation occurs through hydraulic system, adjustable valves.
  2. Smooth and silent operation when opening/closing the door is ensured due to the viscous consistency of the oil.
  3. Depending on the type of device, the strength and speed of the mechanism may vary.

It is easy to adjust the parameters of the closer using special adjusting screws. The tighter they are clamped, the slower the liquid flows inside the cylinder. Having carefully familiarized yourself with the principle of operation of the mechanism, it becomes clear that removing and adjusting the door closer is not so difficult.

How to install and configure a door closer yourself

The main purpose of door closers is to smoothly close the front door. When installing, make sure that the product body is on the inside of the room, which makes dismantling the product from the outside impossible. This contributes additional protection mechanism from the penetration of moisture, dust, dirt.

Installation tools

During installation you will need:

  1. Drill.
  2. Ruler.
  3. A simple pencil with a soft lead.
  4. Screwdriver.

There is no need to buy mounting materials separately; they are included with the closer.

What does the mechanism installation process look like?

Some manufacturers add installation templates to the product kit with full-size images of all parts of the mechanism and the proposed locations of holes and fastenings.

Having studied the template and installation details of the mechanism, we proceed directly to the process of installing the device. First, the body is attached, which in the second stage is connected to the traction lever of the structure. By following the instructions, you will see that the installation technology is not complicated and takes very little time.

Please note that the closers differ in design, and the location of the adjusting screws also differs.

Features of adjusting the door closer

The adjustment is carried out according to the same scheme, regardless of the design of the closer. When the screws are rotated clockwise, the speed of the mechanism and its force increases or, when the screw rotates in the opposite direction, it means the door closes more slowly.

When working with such a design, try to turn the screws slowly and carefully - this is one of the recommendations of experts.

To tighten the screw, just make a quarter turn. By throwing off the balance and tightening or unscrewing the screw too much, you risk completely disrupting the operation of the mechanism, which will be difficult to restore as a result.

Incorrect adjustment of the door closer will result in its damage. This is worth paying attention to.

How to properly adjust the door closer after installation

This procedure is carried out in order to obtain the optimal closing rate of the entrance or street door.
