Goat flock size. We build a comfortable house for goats with our own hands. We equip a year-round barn for goats

A goat shed is a must for keeping in our latitudes. It is not easy to build a room for goats with your own hands, to equip a goat house by making pens and stalls in it. In the article, we will analyze the requirements for premises where goats are kept, about the norms of the area per animal. What are the types of goats, how best to build them. If you have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments or in our group in classmates.

barn requirements

Before starting construction, carefully consider all the details that will contribute to the comfort of the animals and simplify care. So, the barn created with my own hands must meet the following specifications:

  • Temperature. So, at various negative temperature indicators, the mark in the room should not fall below 5 ° C - the smallest coefficient, it is better if it is in the region of 10 ° C. Summer temperature indicator must be less than 18°C.
  • Humidity. It is worth noting that goats do not tolerate humidity, for this reason the humidity cannot exceed 75%. Under no circumstances should the floor be wet, this requirement is guaranteed by constant cleaning in the summer.
  • Ventilation. Particular attention should be paid to air circulation. This type livestock prefers ventilated rooms, but the wind should not be present in them.
  • Space. The area directly depends on the number of livestock, because goats love space, they differ physical activity. If an increase in the herd is planned, this fact should be taken into account. The height of the ceiling should correspond to 2.3-2.5 m. Thus, for a female who has an offspring, as a rule, there should be at least 2.5 m2, and for 1 mature goat - this is 1.5 m2 and for young - not less than 0.8 m2. Destined place for young kids. All kids must be kept separately; specialized stalls are equipped for them.
  • Lighting. During the day, the barn should be illuminated, this is especially important for the standard formation of young animals. Compliance with the required conditions will contribute to the greatest profitability of breeding goats. With the right level of comfort, milk yield will increase with offspring.

The paddock is more suitable for warm climates

If the winters are not long and warm, then a paddock is enough to keep goats

Choosing the right place to build

The key importance in the construction is the choice of the right place. Since goats are extremely susceptible to dampness, it is necessary to choose the driest place, while it is preferable that it be on a small hill. Another condition is the remoteness of the shed from the garbage pits, sewers or toilets. These animals are extremely careful, and poorly tolerate proximity to similar sources of clogging. After that, you can proceed to direct marking, pouring the foundation, then proceed to the construction of walls, roofs, and arrangement inside.

Construction and materials

In the problem of material selection, it is not necessary to observe savings, because goat's rue does not require a significant consumption of them. In the case of building a barn, suitable: wood; adobe; brick; clay elements. Despite such an extensive list, wood is better suited, and brick does not guarantee proper warmth, as well as dryness.

Barn drawings

Ceiling and roof

The roof in the barn, as a rule, is made gable. This is a comfortable system, which makes it possible to save unobstructed space above the building for the conservation of feed. However, in this case auxiliary insulation should be carried out. Sheet iron or slate is used as a coating, while roofing materials must be clearly sized so that it does not pass inside cold air and rain.

Goat house device

The internal improvement of the barn is as important as the construction of the building itself. Apart from floor covering, it is necessary to install stalls, drinkers, feeders, nurseries for older individuals and young animals. Next, we analyze what conditions must be met internal arrangement barn.

feeder

Inside the stall, a separate feeder should be installed, as well as a nursery. If you have created a shed for finding goats with your own hands, the production of nurseries and feeders will not be difficult.

Note: Goats are extremely receptive to food, and can go through an entire haystack to find a particular blade of grass. For this reason, it is recommended immediately, of which goats will not be able to scatter hay.

Feeders, nurseries are preferably located in such a way that animals have independent access to them. In addition, drinkers are installed inside the barn. This may well be either a special system or a simple bucket suspended on a hill so that the animals are more comfortable drinking from it.

Stall

So, the milking machine is an indispensable item, especially for farmers whose livestock exceeds 10 individuals. Such a device solves a lot of issues to facilitate work:

  • a goat without movement will not interfere with milking, turn over a container of milk;
  • ensures a comfortable posture of the milker at the time of manual movement;
  • allows you to freely connect the electric milking machine, if the procedure is automated;
  • provides an opportunity to wash the udder, trim the fur around it, trim the hooves without disturbing the animal.

And young animals that are not yet accustomed to the milking process must be led to the machine in compulsory order, after a couple of procedures, this problem will go away, as the animals will get used to it quickly. If you thoroughly consider all the stages of building a goat's rue with your own hands, there should be no problems.

Our goat house is ready for operation and now I can proudly tell and show its device. We planned the goat and chicken shed in a way that was convenient for everyone! Goats now have separate flocks and remote feeders for hay and grain. We also made a milking machine!

Goat shed and water supply

Requirements and device

A significant part of the warm season, small livestock is grazing, but in winter there is a need for a comfortable room. As a rule, it is possible to build a barn on your own. And to build a goat's rue, you need to stock up necessary material, alternately implement the stages of construction work.

Goats are not demanding animals. They are adapted to any climatic conditions, but in winter they need a closed room.

For wintering goats need a goat's rue

Building Requirements

The goat house can be built based on the needs of the animal. Take into account the number of cattle and their gender differences. Females with children require personal space on square meter more than individuals without children. Humidity in the room should not exceed seventy degrees, and the temperature does not fall below six degrees. In a cold, damp room, the animal is prone to disease.

Build a room higher than two meters.

To make a goat's rue with your own hands, it is important to choose the right place. Elevated terrain is ideal, preventing dampness from melting snow and protected from drafts. The room is prepared from the calculations of dryness and warmth in it.

Next to the goat's rue there is always a pasture intended for grazing animals. The yard is located to the south of the building, bring windows to this side. In the cold season, the illumination of the room is maintained for eight hours.

If the smell of animals and goat milk causes rejection in you, then build a goat house with your own hands, based on the distance between their stalls and your house.

Scheme of the goat's rue and its dimensions

Dampness in the room is avoided if you build a goat's rue on the foundation. Or leave the floor of an earthen consistency, but build a room with a slope for drainage. In the direction of the drain, place a place where it will pour out, and change it in a timely manner.

Lay wooden boards on concrete floors. Cold comes from the concrete, which will harm the animal.

Cover the surface of the floor with straw or hay.

Construction

Build a room preferably on earthen floor, or clay concrete, laid wooden planks. Replace damp boards with new ones in a timely manner. Lay five kilograms of hay or straw on top of the boards. Build goat beds that are located on a hill. Since animals prefer to sleep in such places, and not on the floor.

Choose the material of the walls based on the properties of heat retention. Give preference to wooden material.

Having built the walls of the goat's house from the boards with your own hands, upholster them warm material and cover with a second layer of boards. This will keep the heat in the goat house. Place window openings in such a way that goats cannot reach them. Check the walls for cracks, possible drafts.

The best material for goat's rue is wood.

Animals are often susceptible to disease in rooms with loose walls and cold floors. Each individual needs a separate stall. Keeping the animal's personal space reduces the risk of conflict between animals. The amount of milk yield is reduced in tightness. The stall should be two meters long and two meters wide. Make the front door a meter high and fasten it to the hinge. The roof of the stall is either covered with a grate or left free. A wooden bowl is attached to the front side of the stall, where hay is poured. The drinker is placed on another wall.

If feeding is carried out on the site, cover the feeder from precipitation. Raw food goats practically do not eat.

The pasture is selected based on the following requirements:

  1. Only goats are walking on it.
  2. The pasture should be wide enough.
  3. One individual should account for three square meters.
  4. Be sure to protect the meadows by applying high fences from non-hazardous material.
  5. Set up pasture on high ground.

Making a room with your own hands is not difficult. It all depends on the climate in your area.

You can build it in the southern part with your own hands from light material significantly saving on costs.

But do it with your own hands northern regions it is necessary from a durable material that protects against drafts, dampness and retains heat inside.

Small dairy cattle spend most of the warm period on grazing, but in winter time there is a need for comfortable room. You can build a goat shed with your own hands, this is a simple process. For self erection goat's rue, it is enough to stock up on the necessary material and consistently carry out all stages of construction.

Basic requirements for the premises

Before you start building a barn, carefully consider all the details that will contribute to the comfort of the animals and make it easier for the breeder to care for them. A do-it-yourself goat shed should have the following characteristics:

  1. Temperature. With any negative indicators in the barn, the thermometer should not fall below 5 ° - this is the minimum indicator, it is best if it is around 10 °. During the summer heat, the temperature should not be higher than 18 °.
  2. Humidity. Goats do not like dampness, so the humidity should not exceed 75%. The floor also should not be damp, this condition is provided regular cleaning in summer time.
  3. Ventilation. Special attention must be given air circulation. This type of livestock loves ventilated rooms, but at the same time there should be no draft in them.
  4. Space. The area of the barn depends on the number of livestock, goats love space, because they are distinguished by mobility. If in the future it is planned to increase the herd, then this fact must be taken into account. The ceiling is made not lower than 2 m and not higher than 2.5 meters. A female with offspring should account for 2.5 m 2, for one adult goat - 1.5 m 2, for each head of young animals - 0.8 m 2.
  5. Place for youngsters. Kids should be kept separately, special stalls are equipped for them.
  6. Lighting. The entire light period in the barn should be light enough, this is especially important for the normal development of young animals.

Compliance with all these conditions will contribute to the maximum profitability of goat breeding. With the proper level of comfort, milk yield and the number of offspring increase.

Stages of building a barn

The goat house is being built quite quickly. The whole process can be divided into several stages, the sequential implementation of which guarantees a positive result.

Choice of materials and place for construction

It is best to build a goat house in an elevated and dry place, this will ensure that there is no dampness in the room. When placing a barn, an exit to an open pen should be arranged so that the animals can walk on warm autumn and winter days. It should be located on the south side, the windows and facade should also face south.

It is not worth saving in the matter of choosing a material, especially since the goat's rue will not require a large consumption of them. When building a goat shed with your own hands, it is best to:

  • adobe;
  • wood;
  • brick;
  • clay components.

Despite such a wide list, wood is best suited, brick will not provide proper heat and dryness.

Foundation

Pay special attention to laying the foundation. Here main criterion- solidity, a reliable high base of the barn will ensure the dryness of the room in all weather conditions.

On a goat barn, a support-columnar foundation is usually laid. Its construction takes place in several stages:

  1. Markup. A place is planned corresponding to the area and size of the goat's rue.
  2. Removal of the top layer of the earth.
  3. Recesses for supports. support poles make square 40:40 cm, deepening them by 20 cm. The distance between them is from 1.5 to 2 m.
  4. Pillow tab. The place for each support is covered with a layer of sand and rubble, overall height two layers should be about 20 cm. Each layer is carefully rammed.
  5. Laying out pillars. Concrete is poured over each pillow, on which two layers are laid. foundation blocks(in the absence of such, you can use the red brick). Details of pillars-supports are fastened with cement mortar.
  6. Plastering of supports and processing them with bituminous waterproofing.

The higher the foundation is laid, the greater will be the distance between the floor of the goat’s rue and the ground level.

This kind foundation is suitable for the construction of a wooden shed, a brick will require a bookmark strip base with a recess in the ground of at least 50 cm. This is due to the severity of the building material.

Walls

The thermal insulation of the room depends on the quality of the walls; for a goat's rue, it is best to make them from thick wooden beam. For maximum insulation, the barn is sheathed interior walls at a distance of about 15 cm from the main ones. This gap is filled with insulation, which is suitable for:

  • sand;
  • expanded clay.

Brick walls provide less thermal insulation than wood. In addition, they can get damp, so they must be sheathed with plywood with inside. Outside, to protect against dampness, the barn is upholstered with tarpaulin or roofing felt. If the walls are log, then the cracks are sure to caulk.

At the same stage, window and door openings are laid. Windows are made square minimum height from the floor 1.5 m, so that the goats could not break the glass in the frames. It is desirable to make them openable. At the same time, for every 20 m 2 of the floor there should be 1 m 2 of windows. Doors are laid with a threshold no more than 15-17 cm high.

Roof

To ensure dryness in the goat's rue, cover gable roof. It is best to cover it with slate or iron, carefully fitting the sheets to each other. roofing material. The absence of gaps in the roof is the main requirement for its manufacture.

It is also desirable to equip the corral in front of the barn with a canopy. This will protect the animals when walking on fresh air from the rain and the burning rays of the sun.

floors

Usually, a wooden floor is laid in the goat's house, although concrete or clay is quite acceptable. By winter, it can be insulated with straw, sawdust or uneaten hay.

To drain the liquid, a slope is made (about 2 cm per meter). Along two opposite walls along the slope of the floor, gutters are made to drain liquid manure. It is desirable that its collection is located as far as possible from the walls of the barn.

The step by step layout of the floor is as follows:

  • lags are installed;
  • windproof insulation is laid (this material is fixed with boards),
    insulation is laid between the lags;
  • boards are built up on the logs (section 50:150);
  • waterproof plywood is sewn onto the extended boards.

This option of the floor will be ideal for the goat's rue in terms of dryness and warmth.

Internal finishing works

Depending on the material chosen for the walls, the type of finishing work is selected.

Double wooden walls do not require additional interior decoration. It is enough to insulate them in time before winter.

If the goat house is built of brick, then the walls are sheathed with waterproof plywood from the inside. This measure will keep warm and protect the room from dampness.

At the same stage, doors are inserted into the openings. Fire safety requires them to open outwards. It is also important to consider the need for their warming for the winter.

The ceiling of the room should not let air through, so it is coated with clay and, if possible, covered with moss.

The room is whitewashed, for this one part of quicklime is dissolved in 5 parts of water.

Stall

Goats do not like to limit themselves in movement, so it is necessary to equip the goat house with separate stalls in which animals will be kept without a leash. The size of such "apartments" should ideally be approximately 2: 1.7 m.

The front wall of the stall is its own door. Its height is 1.2 meters. A feeder can be attached to the door to distribute feed without breaking into the stall.

For queens with kids, the stall area is made a little larger, 1.2 m 2 - during lambing in spring, 2 m 2 - in winter. Males must be isolated from the herd with a high partition. The area for it is made at least 2 m 2.

The young are required less space. Young females will feel comfortable in an area up to 0.8 m 2. Males up to a year are given about 1 m 2 of the room.

Shelves

Goats love to sleep on dry, elevated wooden decks. Such shelves are nailed to the walls at a height of about half a meter. They can be assembled from boards with your own hands. They can be insulated for the winter.

The width of such a bed for goats is 60 cm, the length is at least 80 cm per animal. This area will provide comfort and reduce the likelihood of injury.

Lighting

Lighting can be divided into 2 types: artificial and natural.

A short daylight hours must be additionally illuminated by electricity. At the same time, the light bulb is hung under the very ceiling so that jumping goats do not break it.

In summer, there is enough natural light. For this, sufficiently wide windows are made under the ceiling. total area windows should be in proportion to the floor area of 1:20.

Ventilation

For air circulation, the goat shed is equipped with a supply and exhaust pipes. It is quite easy to do it yourself. To do this, you need 2 pipes with a diameter of 140 mm. This stage is carried out when laying the roof. The first pipe (inlet) descends from the roof, which ends just above the floor (about 20 cm), while there should not be a strong elevation above the roof. The second pipe (exhaust) is installed almost at the ceiling 5-10 cm from it, while its outer part is located as high as possible. Such a ventilation device is the simplest.

With a large area, the barn is equipped with supply and exhaust electrical installations. In the most affordable option they are two air ducts with fans of different directions.

Heating

In a temperate climate, goat's rue does not need additional heating subject to competent insulation of walls and doors during its construction. For harsh climatic conditions, it is worth considering a way to warm up the room.

Stove heating is not suitable for a goat’s rue for reasons fire safety. The exception is steam heating if the water heating stove is located in an additional stone outbuilding.

It is ideal to heat the goat's rue with gas. But bringing such heating is not cheap.

If you carefully think through all the stages of building a goat's rue with your own hands, there should be no difficulties. Basically, this room is not much different from the construction of similar structures. For successful work, it is desirable to draw up a plan and make a calculation of materials and the necessary fasteners.

From proper organization personal premises depends on the health and milk yield of goats. If the cost for a goat is of insufficient size, with violations of standards and conditions of detention, the animals will develop chronic diseases that can lead to death.

Before you build a goat house, decide what breed of goat you want to buy and how much. You can buy them everywhere in Russia, where there are large farms, because it is they who guarantee a completely healthy and thoroughbred young. Therefore, if you are interested dairy goats, pay attention to the farms where there are animals of the White Russian and Gorky dairy breeds. If you already have experience in keeping and breeding these breeds, we suggest paying attention to animals of Swiss origin, Toggenburg, Alpine and Saanen goats.

The cost of a young goat depends on the breed, Russian ones cost 5,000 - 15,000 rubles, and the price of Alpine ones starts from 20,000 rubles, but their purchase pays off.

Goats are sold starting from two months of age. For example, a kid of the Saanen breed can cost from 3,000 rubles. depending on the farm.

Goats are placed in stalls to simplify their maintenance, as well as to isolate sick or aggressive (vigorous) animals.

Dimensions

The stall should correspond to the size of the goat, not restrict its movements and not cause it to stressful condition. What does it mean? The standard is a length of 1.7 meters, and a width of at least two meters. Practice has shown that milk yield depends on the width of the stall - if the goat is crowded, it will give a minimum of milk yield, and in a wide stall - a maximum.

Since the goat is a herd animal, it is desirable to have at least two individuals in the same pen in neighboring stalls so that they can see each other. This means that the height of the stall should be such that the goat can turn its head without tension and see its neighbors.

The height of the stall fence is from 1.2 m or more, depending on the size and breed of goats

materials

The stall is created from natural materials, beams or logs, as they perfectly retain heat.

  • The side walls of the stall can be with gaps, the main thing is that there are no drafts in the goat's house, and for this the walls of the goat's house should also be wooden, without cracks, insulated with sawdust, peat or a second layer of boards.
  • Make the floor hard, preferably from flat slate or metal with a slope of 2-3 cm for draining urine and feces into a special container.
  • The wooden floor is impractical, since the tree perfectly absorbs odors and moisture, so it will stink very soon, there will be a danger of the development of pathogenic microflora and various diseases.
  • For the stall door, a galvanized steel mesh is used, which is firmly fixed in wooden frame so that the goat cannot be hurt by the sharp ends of the net.

Design

What should be a normal goat stall? The standard design is one that has side walls, a front with a feeder and a back that can be opened to take the goat out to pasture or care for. inner space stall.

Often a feeder or a manger for hay is hung on the door so as not to go inside once again, thus back wall- this is the wall of the goat's house, and the side ones - plank - border on neighboring stalls. The height of the door can be about a meter. From above, the stall, if it is inside the goat’s house, should be well lit, and when placing the stall in the yard in warm time year, it is desirable to cover it with a grate from above.

Conclusion

There must be ventilation to ensure air circulation all year round. The air in the room must be fresh, without an unpleasant smell, because otherwise the food will be saturated with it, and the goats will refuse to eat it. A good option would be ventilation tube with a throttle valve in the goat's rue, because you can manually adjust the suction force when you are.

Building a goat stall is not too difficult if you know the design features, materials, dimensions and room requirements.

Goats are one of the most unpretentious pets. Breeding them in your backyard is very profitable. But before you start keeping goats, you need to properly build a room. We will talk about how to make a goat's rue with your own hands in this article.

Goats adapt well to various climatic conditions, resistant to cold or heat. In warm regions, these animals can be kept simply in the yard, under a canopy. However, if the winters are cold, the farmer cannot do without a thoroughly insulated goat house. There are many projects, but the requirements for the premises are the same.

It is necessary to ensure that the humidity of the air does not exceed 75%, and the temperature is within 6-10 degrees. In high humidity or cold, goats can get sick. When calculating the area of the goat’s house, keep in mind that one goat needs 1.5 square meters for a comfortable stay. m., a goat with offspring - 2.5 sq. m., and a kid up to a year - 0.8 sq. m. Optimal Height rooms - from 2 to 4.5 meters.

Choosing a place for a goat house

Not every place is suitable for construction. It must be dry and located on a hill so that during the melting of snow and showers there is no underflooding. It is necessary to take into account not only the area under the goat's rue itself, but also for the walking yard with a fence. Goats are active animals and need daily exercise.

The courtyard and the facade of the building must be done on the south side, as well as the windows. In winter, lighting in the goat house should be at least eight hours a day. It is desirable to erect the building at some distance from the owner's house and neighboring houses, so that the specific goat smell does not interfere with people.

Floor and walls

To avoid excess dampness, it is better to make goat's rue on a solid foundation. It can be shallow, just 30 cm deep is enough. After pouring, wait a few days. A concrete floor is not suitable for a goat's rue, as it is cold and damp. Best Option it is considered an earthen or adobe floor raised 20 cm above ground level. It must be done with a slight slope towards the drain. The drain leads to a container that must be emptied regularly. Bad odors will be less.

If a concrete floor is still made in the barn, you will have to cover it with bedding or wooden boards so that the goats can sleep warmly. As bedding, you can take sawdust, straw or leaves. In winter, bedding needs at least 5 kilograms per square meter. The tree periodically needs to be changed, as it quickly rots in the barn. Shelves-beds are also desirable indoors, as pets like to relax, climbing higher.

Walls can be made from any material. Brick, adobe, cinder block, wood or stone are often used, but logs or beams are best suited, as they retain heat well. If the walls are plank, in cold regions you need to insulate them with peat or sawdust. You can sheathe the boards with a second layer. In any case, the walls must be strong and not let in drafts. Windows should be made at a height of one and a half meters so that animals do not reach them.

Stall and feeders

In practice, goats do well in separate stalls. Each stall must be at least 2 meters wide and 1.7 meters long. The wider the stall, the better - in crowded goats reduce milk yield.

The front wall is made in the form of a small hinged door, about a meter high. From above, the stall can be covered with a grate or left free for better lighting. A manger is hung on the door, where you can put hay without going into the stall itself.

Large mangers can be hung on one of the walls of the room, at a height of one and a half meters. It is advisable to put a small box under them so that small stems and leaves fall there. You can put mineral supplements and salt in the box. The drinker is made on another wall. If the feeder is placed on the street, it is necessary to close it from precipitation, otherwise the goats will not eat well in bad weather.

paddock

The walking yard should be designed only for goats, there is no place for other pets in it. The corral can be made not very large, the main thing is that there is no crowding there. In the fresh air, animals grow faster and harden. The area of the courtyard is calculated based on 3 square meters. m. per animal.

The corral is surrounded by a fence, the height of which should not be less than half a meter. A convenient fence is wooden, with wire between the boards, as sometimes goats like to gnaw at a tree. A wire fence is not recommended - it contributes to the escape and injury of pets. The fence should be strong and not made of rotten wood.

Like the goat house itself, the corral should be located on a hill so that it does not gather rainwater. It is advisable to cover part of the walking yard with a canopy, where the goats can wait out the rain or the hot sun. Finally, the door to the pen must open inward and a lock must hang on it.

We make goat's rue

Having studied the device of the goat's rue, you can start building it. First, select the desired area and decide on the material (for example, boards, logs, bricks).

In a warm climate, you can reduce the cost of building by building it from long boards. In a cool climate, the goat's rue needs to be insulated. Briefly list all the steps for construction.

  1. Choosing a place and area for a barn.
  2. Foundation laying regardless of wall material.
  3. The walls are made taking into account the location of windows and doors from the south. If the shed is small, at least one window and door should be on the south side. The walls are brought to a height of 2.5 meters. Windows at a height of 1.5 meters.
  4. Laying wooden floor in the goat.
  5. The roof can be gable or sloping. The first option is better, since it is possible to store feed and hay in the attic and there is no need to insulate the roof. The material may be different, but tile or slate is better suited.
  6. In the goat house, an exhaust pipe with a damper is necessarily made. It should be as far as possible from the resting place of the goats.
  7. It is advisable to coat the ventilation pipe from roof to ceiling with clay and insulate with dense straw.
  8. The doors of the barn are best made double-leaf with the possibility of insulation.
  9. Inside the goat's house, sunbeds, stalls are made, nurseries and feeders are hung, a drinking bowl is placed.
  10. Near the premises is equipped with a walking yard with a high fence.

The house for your goats is ready. It remains to have animals and receive from them tasty milk and meat.
