Decided to make my own Coffee table ir s LED backlit, whose decoration resembles infinity. For a long time after the repair, something was missing in the room, everything seemed to be in place, but still something was not right. I accidentally stumbled upon a photo of such a table on the Internet and realized what exactly I wanted. I went shopping, I didn’t find it, I decided to do it myself. Such a table will give the room creativity, modernity and turn more than one curious look to itself.

I will open the veil, the secret of this infinity is in application LED LED backlight, the color scheme of which can be varied. Such a tape is installed in the middle between the reflective coatings. Basically, a mirror is used (for this purpose, one translucent is taken, the second is ordinary), thanks to this, the radiation from the backlight is clearly visible to everyone.

To make such a coffee table with LED lighting with your own hands, we need:
- wooden planks or MDF;
- glass or a translucent mirror and an ordinary mirror;
- LED Strip Light;
- self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.

The first thing we will do is a drawing of the future table, taking into account all sizes. Then, following our calculations, we make blanks from MDF sheets (or boards) and mirrors.

Next, we make three patterns with inner space. The one where we intend to mount the LED strip is made with a centimeter larger diameter inside (when making a table from chipboard). We glue all three blanks together, at the same time we insert a mirror at the bottom. We smooth all the corners and sides, being very scrupulous about this.

So that we have the opportunity to somehow get to the tape, in case of breakage, we set the table cover so that it is removed.

Now we cover our entire structure with a translucent mirror.

We make legs for the table with a wide section and with small round holes through, since it is through them that we will output the wires.

Materials and tools

You can make an exclusive piece of furniture with your own hands. To do this, prepare necessary materials, tools and follow the step-by-step instructions.

To make a table you will need:

boards for the frame (made of wood or chipboard);
mirror according to the parameters of the countertop;
translucent mirror. Dimensions should be 10 cm larger than the lower mirror;
self-adhesive diode tape, length depending on the size of the table, but not less than 1.5 m;
materials for connecting the tape: controller, programmer, wires, power supply with USB;
consumables: sandpaper, glue, screws, metal corners.

Instead of a translucent mirror for the top cover, you can take ordinary glass and self-paste it with a tint film.

Idea: to cut down on work, you can buy the simplest table in any furniture store and use it as a finished base.

Assembly

Before assembly, it is necessary to develop a drawing of the table, calculate the distance between the mirrors, the number of diodes, and consider the location of the electrical elements.

To get an idea of how the flickering lights will look in the finished product, just place any light source between the bottom and top of the table and look at the result.

Regarding the distance between the mirrors, everything is individual and depends on your wishes. But often the average value is chosen - 8 cm. To calculate the depth of infinity, the distance between the covers must be multiplied by 16. Also keep in mind that the depth of the tunnel will depend on the light transmission of the top cover. After all the calculations, you can proceed directly to the assembly.

Step-by-step instructions for making a table with an infinity effect with your own hands - making a base:

From bars with a section of 5 * 5 cm and metal corners you need to make a frame for the future table. For fastening, use screws and a screwdriver.
With help sandpaper carefully process all edges and corners to give them smoothness, eliminate burrs.
Drill holes for electrical elements with a drill, follow the drawing. The holes need to be sanded tighter.
For additional fastening of the structure, you can process the joints with glue. After that, the frame must dry for at least 24 hours.

To plywood sheet right size attach boards (section 5 * 1 cm) along the outer perimeter, and at a distance of 5-6 cm along the inner perimeter. You should get a kind of gutter between the boards - this is where the wiring and electrical elements(see photo above).
Place a mirror on the bottom of the countertop with the reflective side facing up.
To the inside of the smaller frame, you need to attach the LED strip with double-sided tape.
Wiring is laid in the space between the frames.
Attach the top mirror cover to the tabletop.
The whole structure is fastened with screws.

However, it should be understood that you can make a table with an infinity effect from any material that you know how to handle - for example, plexiglass, plastic, metal.

When working with mirrors and glass, remove the protective film only at the end of all processes.
Be sure to thoroughly study the diode connection diagram in order to avoid a short circuit, or even worse, a fire.
Use a moisture-resistant adhesive for fastening.

Mirror translucent self-adhesive film;
Styrofoam(for the body);
Glass or plexiglass (thickness 4 mm, 65 x 65 cm);

Stages of work

Step 1. Cut out a piece of plexiglass a circle according to the diameter of our mirror. The edges clean up, remove the string.

Note! When cutting a circle from Plexiglas, the milling machine must be driven quickly so that the edge does not melt.

Step 2 Gently glue on the plexiglass self-adhesive film. We glue the plexiglass to the table with adhesive tape. Remove the film applied to plexiglass, and a film from a mirror film. Spraying Plexiglas water, and even better - soapy solution. We place the mirror film on the glass and drive out all the resulting bubbles.

Step 3 Protruding edges of the mirror film cut off scissors. We leave the entire structure to dry (no less 12 hours).

Step 4 On the dried mirror plexiglass, you need to carefully attach metal strip with transparent superglue.

Step 5 Glue the LED strip on internal side of the metal strip.

Step 6 We drill holes in the metal strip for wires.

Step 9 From plexiglass you need to cut 10 - 15 small rectangles. Using transparent instant glue, attach them to facial side of the mirror. They will serve as supports for designs from glass and metal. The size rectangles should be such that the strip, together with the plexiglass, overlaps our mirror.

Step 10 into rectangles install top design with glass. The adhesive must be completely dry out. It is advisable to put something heavy on top for the best surface bonding.

Step 11 Second (external) film remove from plexiglass. This design can be used as mirror. We install the structure on a table with a tabletop of the same or smaller diameter.

Table top assembly procedure

When all these works are completed, it remains to attach a translucent mirror to the frame. It is fastened with special screws. It is advisable to choose screws that can be removed without much difficulty (in case the LEDs need to be replaced). Masters recommend attaching small strips to the edges of the frame, which in height form a single plane with glass. At the final stage of work, it will be possible to attach to these strips upper frame providing secure fixation countertops.

Not every craftsman can equip a table with such a mirror, because this material is quite rare. Many furniture makers use plexiglass and a self-adhesive mirror film that is applied to the bottom surface of the glass (the one that will face the mirror).

Mirror-coated glass is also popular, but it must be chosen correctly. To determine if mirror-coated glass is suitable for making an infinity effect coffee table, you can put a piece of mirror and a piece of glass in parallel, and place any light source between them and visually evaluate the effect.

There is an easier way to make a do-it-yourself table with an infinity effect. In this case, instead of the LED strip, the usual one is used. christmas garland. First, a square or rectangular frame is made from the bars, then the number of light bulbs on the garland is counted.

After that, marks are applied to the frame in those places where the light bulbs will be located. It is recommended to place them at a distance of about 2 cm from each other. At the next stage of work, holes for light bulbs are drilled in the frame of the future table.

Then light bulbs are inserted into these holes and fixed there. Then you need to stick the frame on the mirror with your own hands, and stick glass with a mirror film on top of the frame.

When the backlit tabletop is ready, it remains to make the base and legs of the table. The legs should be thick enough (about 10 cm in diameter) so that a hole for wires can be drilled inside one of them. Leading wires through the leg is a solution that allows you to make the product as aesthetic as possible. It is possible to run the wires directly from the table top, but this will make the table less beautiful and easier to use.

When the legs are made, in one of them you need to form through hole with a diameter of about 5 cm. In the upper part of the leg, two grooves should be made through which the wires will pass, and also cut out the corner hole necessary to fix the tabletop.

The height of the hole should be equal to the height of the countertop. The depth of the hole must be calculated individually in each case, it must ensure reliable fixation of the tabletop. Similar corner holes are made on all four legs.

In addition to the legs, you need to prepare a base in which the countertop will be placed. The width of the base should be such that the base protrudes 8-10 cm on each side of the countertop placed inside it. Free space around the countertop is needed to accommodate wires and related equipment.

A hole is formed in each corner of the tabletop into which the leg is inserted. Then, with the help of self-tapping screws, an external frame is attached to the base, the height of which is equal to the height of the countertop. Then the legs are screwed, and the countertop is placed in the finished structure. In the spaces between the table top and the outer frame, wires are placed, which are led out through the table leg.

When the assembly of the base and tabletop is completed, it remains only to close the space with wires and additionally fix the tabletop inside the base. For this, a special frame is made.

The width of each side of the frame is calculated as follows: the width of the gutter with wires + the thickness of the outer frame + a few centimeters to ensure that the tabletop is fixed by the frame. This frame is assembled from four blanks and fastened with self-tapping screws. Then it is bolted to the outer frame, as well as to the frame of the tabletop with LEDs.

Bolt holes must be pre-drilled to avoid delamination of the wood. The design is ready!
