Conclusion

Sometimes it is enough to throw a history blanket over a chair or an old armchair, hang pictures from the past on the wall to create unique interior. In vintage style, only the imagination sets the limits of the fantasy.

How to restore the splendor of old objects so that they serve in a new incarnation long years, amazed by the charm? This is the key question of how to create a vintage vibe. In addition to vintage, old-fashioned elements, modern elements can be freely entered into the interior. Free combinations are a hallmark of vintage style.

The closest thing to vintage style is retro style. This is not a temporary cry of fashion, but a lifestyle, love for family values, history. The picture cannot capture the true charm of the trend, because its irreplaceable elements are homemade aromas, unique sounds, warmth coming from stylization.

Literally everything related to France has always attracted the attention of people who follow fashion trends both in clothing and in the design of their homes. The vintage interior style has a unique charm, as it comes from France. It undoubtedly attracts especially close attention of the owners of country houses.

From the history

It is known that the word vintage was not originally interpreted as certain style interior design. From time immemorial, French winemakers called their excellent wines of long-term aging so. A little later, this word became more widespread in the areas of fashion design, interior design, music and other areas of culture and fashion, which can be characterized by one feature - this is aging. Any object of the “retro” category can be safely called vintage. Today, everything antique has become incredibly popular, and to meet such a huge demand, entire industries are being created for the production of things, furniture, clothing, knick-knacks and interior items stylized as aged.

Interior Features

  1. Charming, filled with warmth and sincerity, the vintage style allows, along with antique items, the presence of modern things.
  2. Its inherent feature is the lack of luxury, the simplicity of the interior.
  3. This style corresponds to a slight negligence, a kind of creative mess.
  4. Vintage is not devoid of romance and suggests the predominance of calm colors in the design of rooms - gray-blue, light green, beige, pale pink and other noble calm shades. If you want to make separate bright accents in the interior, it is best to resort to the use of royal colors: burgundy and purple. Combination of nobility and warmth color palette will make the atmosphere of the house cozy and unusually disposing.
  5. A distinctive feature of vintage is the presence of subtle inscriptions on household items, as if they were erased by time.
  6. Floral motifs must be present on the wallpaper, curtains, bedspreads, tablecloths.

It is unlikely that you will be able to create an interior in one day, because you can get some thing as a gift from relatives or friends, buy something in a store, and for some certain cute little thing, you may have to go to a flea market. Only over time, the situation in your home will become truly complete and harmonious.

Interior details and materials

To create a vintage interior, you should fill the room with things with traces of antiquity, for example:

  • hang a mirror or a picture with a bouquet of flowers on the wall in a shabby frame;
  • arrange old copper figurines, caskets;
  • install a wooden table on which cracks are visible;
  • curtains with a floral pattern will be no less relevant;
  • the presence of antiquity well emphasizes the decor of layers of paint in various colors;
  • the beauty of a vintage interior is exquisitely emphasized by a clock with a pattern of bouquets of roses or lavender applied to them;
  • looks good in a ceramic or metal vase, a dried flower or a bouquet made up of fresh seasonal flowers; it is desirable to give the bouquet a somewhat disheveled and careless look, the flowers should not be perfectly matched and look strictly in a vase.

  1. In no case do not select all items and things in the same style for decorating a vintage interior. AT this case“museum-like” should be excluded, because the created interior should be home-like.
  2. This style allows the most incredible combinations of ideas, flights of fancy, creativity, experiments. This is a free and multifaceted style in which you can reflect your taste and a piece of your soul.
  3. Old rag dolls Stuffed Toys, porcelain figurines inherited from your grandmother, old rugs - all the things that you can suddenly find abandoned in the attic of your country house, no doubt, miraculously fit for a vintage interior.
  4. Pay special attention to the aged design of the floor (must be wooden - plank or parquet), ceiling (must be whitewashed or painted with white paint) and doors (must be painted with white paint).
  5. Always remember the details. The interior should look complete, and it is the details that will help in this - vases, figurines, caskets, watches, old photographs in frames, openwork napkins, tablecloths and many other cute gizmos.
  6. Despite the abundance of details, you should create a feeling of uncluttered, clean and airy space in the interior.

Consumption ecology. The word "vintage" came to the interior from the lexicon of winemakers, where it means aged, expensive wine. Later, this concept began to mean a rarity, the impossibility of forgery.

The word "vintage" came to the interior from the lexicon of winemakers, where it means aged, expensive wine. Later, this concept began to mean a rarity, the impossibility of forgery. Vintage style in the interior appeared in the last century. This is the style of brave people who love experiments. However, a stylish vintage is not just an old thing, but a thing that was considered fashionable at the time of its creation.

The interior in vintage style can be made from both artificially aged and authentic things, bought at a flea market, mined in the attic, in a grandmother's chest, or even found in a garbage dump. The main characteristic of such things is not so much in their appearance, but in the sensations that they cause. Vintage is associative, but these associations are associated not so much with a specific person, but with ideas about the era, the memories of which are still kept by the older generation. Elements of a long family history help to create a special emotional background, which is so important for a vintage interior.

The vintage style in the interior is created according to the rules and everything is determined: from the palette to finishing materials and the arrangement of objects in space. AT vintage interior, as a rule, the dominant color and its various shades predominate. Most often used soft, muted, pastel shades. As for the decoration, the interiors of this style are dominated by natural materials. If the floor is parquet or tile, if the ceiling is plaster. Walls can be painted or wallpapered. No laminate, linoleum, drywall. Scuffs, potholes, scratches, chips are welcome.

When creating an interior in a vintage style, special attention is paid to wallpaper. They can be of three types. The first type is wallpaper with bright ornaments. The drawing, as a rule, is small, which allows you to create the desired background for pieces of furniture in white or beige shades, to give the interior the desired degree of detail and symmetry. The second type - wallpaper with large pattern or ornament. As a rule, only one wall in the room is pasted over with such wallpaper, the others are most often painted white or slightly tinted. The third type is light wallpaper with ornament. Such expressive wallpapers allow you to create the right background for vintage items.

As for the interior items themselves, most of them, indeed, can be purchased for relatively little money and brought to the desired condition even with your own hands. Important point interior in vintage style - accessories: clock, old typewriter, telephone, dishes, textiles, etc. They should not only be correctly placed, there should be enough of them so that a symmetrical composition can be organized. Symmetry allows you to create rhythm, organize a space that, at first glance, seems to be filled with trinkets and cute little things.

Last and most important. In its purest form, the vintage interior has a pronounced gender identity. Usually it is a female interior. Boudoirs, kitchens, small living rooms, women's offices, girls' bedrooms are often decorated in vintage style. At the same time, vintage style elements organically fit into any modern interior, adding color and atmosphere to it.

Crocheted tablecloth oval table, Viennese chairs, dishes from the 50s of the last century, a fireplace - all this forms a good vintage, country interior.

There are many things here: a whole collection of photographs, an old lapis lazuli-colored velvet armchair, a covered sofa, decorative pillows, Crystal Chandelier. And all this is competently combined with a neutral background, thanks to which the correct composition turned out.

The fashion for the interior in vintage style came to us from France, where it was formed as a kind of retro style in the 90s of the twentieth century. The style is not particularly sophisticated, like palace or modern, but it is very cozy, calm and hospitable. Such an interior accepts original and dear things inherited from previous generations. Here you will find a worthy use of old gizmos. self made and family heirlooms, all that was made by hand many years ago. A special addition is artificially aged furniture and stylized lamps to give the house a special "time-worn" charm.

Distinctive features of a vintage interior

And the term vintage was borrowed from the field of winemaking, where it means good aging, that is, “tested by time”. Recently, there has been a trend towards antiques in the design of home furnishings, and this is reflected in different styles:

  • grunge;
  • retro;
  • shabby chic;
  • boho;
  • Victorian etc.

Most interiors in vintage, shabby or retro style do not imply an exact reflection of the spirit of certain years, rather, they are only decorations or imitations. This is a new rethinking and respect for what has already been tested by time, in order to give some things a new life. And it is not at all necessary to chase after expensive antiques or household items of a hundred years ago for such an interior.

Vintage is a trend where both modern things “under the classics” and household items that are 30-50 years old, that is, owned by parents or inherited by grandchildren, coexist peacefully. A vintage bedroom, kitchen or living room doesn't cost much if you get creative.

Attention: Antiques are works of art that are a hundred years old and expensive household items that are several decades old. Antiques include household items that are 50 years old or more. For a retro interior, things over 25 years old that were popular in past generations are suitable.

There is no sharp line between retro and vintage styles, with the exception of a pronounced belonging to a certain era, for example, the 30s or 60s of the twentieth century. But all this furniture and accessories can be the highlight of any antique interior. Vintage is the harmony of old and new, so it is not at all necessary to give new furniture an old look if it is made in classical traditions. But it should be somehow beaten and supplemented with antique items, suitable textiles, which were in fashion several decades ago. For example, vintage style in the interior - photo:

You don't have to be an expert in the fashion of every decade, as boho, retro or shabby chic requires. Vintage furniture should have a characteristic touch of antiquity, but each item has its own story. These are tables and chairs, where every scratch or defect testifies to a move or an event in the life of a previous generation. Sometimes a chest of drawers, a sideboard, a sofa or an armchair show several layers of paint or obvious signs of restoration, which confirms their origin.

Tip: Do not go to extremes and fill the premises with old trash indiscriminately. The vintage setting is minimalistic in terms of furniture, but involves a lot of textiles and characteristic accessories to complement the design. These are characteristic decor items that have changed several owners and have an individual look.

A good vintage interior is self-sufficient, it does not require updating and expensive repairs every 5-10 years, and therefore somewhat related to the classical setting. Spectacular accents from fashion borrowed from the 20th century, things that came from Sots Art and Pop Art, or those born in the perestroika era are appropriate here.

A retro interior is often similar to a vintage one or vice versa, but if the first of them is more strict within the framework of time, then the interior design in vintage style is freer and simpler, and therefore quite accessible for self-implementation. However, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the best examples of style in order to use successful design finds in your setting. Here it is supposed to show a delicate taste and sense of style to make the interior inimitable and interesting.

Usually, established people gravitate towards vintage interiors, tired of chasing fashion trends with their characteristic paraphernalia. Do not think that an abandoned house is a vintage style interior. In such an environment, a certain charm should be felt, the symmetry of things, where each object has its place in the overall harmony. A distinctive characteristic of the vintage style is the originality of furniture or other items, a small circulation or originality, for example, with the brand of the master.

Often, after receiving an inheritance, people living in noisy cities tend to return to their roots in order to “attach” things dear to their hearts, and at the same time use cute handmade accessories. Today, this style is in demand in cities, because many of us so lack warmth and peace of mind - among the rampant urbanization and the law of the survival of the strongest in the ruthless "stone jungle".

Today, many appreciate what was characteristic of a certain period of time, for example, polished sofa sides or glass doors. kitchen cabinets with metal frame. That is, they don’t do this today, and this shows a certain chic that was inherent in fashionable items. Hand-made things that used to cost nothing are also valued. But these should be objects that give joy and a sense of stability, rare in the modern world.

Although the vintage interior is a very broad and somewhat arbitrary concept, its characteristic feature is a tribute to the memory of the bygone twentieth century and its best traditions. In a living space designed in this style, it is pleasant to relax and enjoy your family happiness, honor traditions and nostalgic for a happy childhood, indulging in pleasant memories. He is chosen by balanced couch potatoes, nostalgic for bygone times.

Characteristic features of vintage style

How do you imagine a vintage interior? Most likely, the imagination paints a picture of a family idyll, reminiscent of chronicles about the life of Europe several decades ago. This is a sofa by the cuckoo clock or with a chime, where a girl reads a book to her grandmother, who knits a sock in a rocking chair, dozing at work. And the hostess at this time cooks fragrant raspberry jam on an electric stove by the window with chintz curtains in ruffles. That's about everything that should look like in a vintage house, conducive to nostalgia and memories. And all the home furnishings are not just old decor, but real household items, time-tested.

A thoughtful interior in vintage style is naturalness in everything, from ceilings to floors. There is no place here:

  • modern vinyl wallpaper;
  • newfangled laminate;
  • plastic window frames;
  • plasterboard partitions and other attributes of "European-quality repair".

The best choice for flooring in a residential area is parquet:

  • lacquer - for the living room;
  • matte - bedroom or nursery.

Possible modern parquet board or a matte laminate that mimics a plain plank floor. Simplicity in decoration is the motto of vintage style in the interior of the kitchen. Designers recommend using:

  • floors without the use of modern technologies, natural wood or tiles;
  • matte light ceilings "whitewashed";
  • tiles with a rustic pattern and styling;
  • washable wallpaper with a pattern on a natural theme.

Patterned surfaces - feature vintage style. In this case, you can choose a large and discreet pattern or a small and cheerful one. Vintage style in the interior of the bedroom involves smooth paper wallpaper with a floral pattern or fantasy ornament. Today, stylized "vintage" wallpapers are produced, repeating the characteristic patterns or stripes that were fashionable years 20-30 ago.

At the ceiling, along the perimeter of the room, simple stucco molding is possible, but not a foam plastic frieze. Even if there is a desire to use it, then only wide, for painting. Acceptable and stucco rosettes at the base ceiling chandelier. In vintage ceilings, even small cracks and peeling paint or whitewash are acceptable, which gives the interior an “old” chic. The same goes for floors and walls, and don't clean up a little paint blister on a frame or door frame.

Attention: In a vintage interior, you should not create an antique collection displayed in a glass showcase. These are real things for everyday use, which still have their historical, artistic or decorative value.

Any family heirlooms or modern handicrafts inspired by traditional crafts are welcome. For example, pillowcases embroidered with roses on sofa cushions or lace tablecloths in the style of "grandmother's chest". You can put up any chest or chest of drawers after restoration, which will complement other furniture of a suitable design.

Modern technologists and designers periodically release furniture collections reminiscent of hand made or “vintage-like”. Feature- the outlines and configuration of the models resemble products of a bygone era, and artificially “corrected” surfaces are also used. Today, chemical components make it possible to create the effect of peeling and cracking paint, as happened when trying to paint a lacquer surface, you can give the metal the appearance of oxide or rust, cover copper with a greenish bloom or make dark patina on bronze. Pseudo-vintage furniture is often made on special order in carpentry shops, repeating old patterns.

Tip: An experienced furniture maker knows how furniture should look like Soviet retro, French vintage or English shabby chic. If this is fundamentally important for the author's interior design, such details should be discussed when placing an order or buying furniture from a catalog. In general, most pseudo-vintage collections are suitable for all sorts of antique styling.

There are no clear restrictions regarding the choice of colors, but bright surface finishes are not used. Acceptable "burnt" or faded shades of natural origin, light walls washed out shades of any natural color:

  • white;
  • lactic;
  • light green;
  • peach;
  • beige;
  • light brown;
  • sand;
  • pale pink;
  • lilac;
  • pale blue.

Regarding patterns on textiles, “variegation” is quite acceptable here, which will enliven a pale background or a calm finish of natural wood. The golden rule of vintage style - if there are a lot of small items, then they are united overall color, and in monochrome interior there should be some bright accents.

In special honor are accessories and textiles, which create a special vintage flavor, for example, fringe on sofa cushions and tablecloths, quilted bedspreads or patchwork quilts. The main favorites are textiles of various textures, here velvet and chintz, lace and silk, cross-stitch and satin stitch embroidery, crocheting and handmade knitting can be successfully combined.

In a place of honor - framed family portraits or hand made pictures, wood carving, metal chasing, handicraft painted plates or other handmade ceramics. But the most valued vintage without fakes:

  • antique clocks, telephones and cameras;
  • porcelain figurines and vases with roses;
  • thread curtains made of antique beads or paper clips with cut postcards;
  • antique crockery and samovars on trays;
  • carved wooden hangers;
  • retro chandeliers with crystal drops;
  • handmade gift souvenirs;
  • collections of pre-war and post-war books, photos and postcards;
  • dry bouquets and various crafts on black velvet under glass in frames.

1. Vintage kitchen - this style is very appropriate, but there is a difficulty in correctly combining the latest household appliances and "grandmother's" kitchen utensils. It makes sense to hide the equipment in a closet behind the door, and for antique household items to take pride of place in the corner, on shelves or on wall cabinets. For example, put ceramic dishes or painted plates in a conspicuous place.

In a vintage kitchen, bright cheerful shades are appropriate in accessories, a lot of spectacular “inflated” shaped dishes, teapots and samovars. “Cheerful” curtains with ruffles and frills or loin nets on the windows with patterns, crocheted, as well as openwork tablecloths and napkins will also come in handy.

2. The interior of a vintage bedroom - first of all, an "antique" bed, best of all with wrought iron details at the headboard. Embroidered pillowcases, quilts and knitted bedspreads look good. You can use an old dressing table instead of a dressing table, hang a canopy over the bed. Instead of modern bedside table put a vintage chair with a high back, where you can put on a dressing gown or clothes before going to bed.

Experts recommend putting in the bedroom old wardrobe, a hanger on a tripod, and on the wall or on the back of the door - a row of hooks for handbags and hats. A metal chandelier with simple frosted shades or a lampshade will complement the vintage paraphernalia of the bedroom.

3. A children's room or a room for a teenage girl can also be decorated in a vintage way, complementing it with a collection of vintage dolls on a shelf or porcelain figurines. A collection of toys made by with my own hands 2-3 generations of craftswomen.

On the walls are framed family portraits, next to children's drawings. An excellent decoration will be wallpaper on a children's theme, self-sewn multi-layer curtains with ruffles, as well as hand-made ottomans.

4. For a vintage-style living room, it’s not customary to choose bright colors, it is better to give preference to muted shades in the decoration of the walls. On the background plain walls looks best cushioned furniture with printed fabric, and if the wallpaper is patterned, then it is recommended to put the sofa and chairs in plain color, with plush upholstery or matting to avoid ripples. A showcase or an old sideboard is appropriate, as it was fashionable in those days, but it is better not to advertise a modern plasma panel and other equipment.

You can use a fireplace or a place for an electric fireplace that imitates the flickering of a flame, but without "wild stone" and other modern finishing materials. Wallpapers are given special attention, as they are responsible for the vintage atmosphere in the living room. Therefore, they are selected such as it was fashionable 30-40 years ago. Then all the walls were covered with wallpaper, leaving no room for decorative panels and other decorations.
