Plywood bread box design. Original bread bins. Wooden bread bin design

Usually bread is stored either in a plastic bag or in the refrigerator. But best place for him, of course, a wooden bread box. There, more or less constant humidity is maintained and such a bread bin breathes, thanks to which the bread does not become moldy or stale for a long time. A wooden bread box is not so difficult to make with your own hands.
Here is her drawing:

The materials we need are boards 10-12 mm thick, preferably birch, oak, ash or linden. Pine is not suitable because... it will saturate the bread with a resinous smell. You will also need wooden slats for the flexible lid, a handle and fasteners.
We cut out two sidewalls, a bottom and a top bar from the board (see figure).

From the inside in the sides it is necessary to make a semicircular groove for the flexible cover. It is better to choose it with a router. You can use a finger cutter on a drill.
The lid itself is made of thin wooden slats. The slats can be glued to a fabric base or a cord can be inserted inside.

If your family is large, you can make a two-tier bread box using the same principle:

The outside of the bread box can be coated with varnish or linseed oil, but it is better to leave the inside uncoated. However, a wooden bread box can be decorated by burning, decoupage or painting as you like.

This bread box is one of the most common designs and therefore easier to make.

Tools needed: drill, grinding machine, jigsaw, router or hand milling machine and finished boards of a certain thickness. Pine works well.

Description Qty Thickness Width Length
Base 1 19mm 273mm 473mm
Parties 2 19mm 267mm 273mm
Top 1 12mm 217mm 485mm
Door 1 12mm 222mm 473mm
Rear wall - plywood 1 3mm 209mm 485mm
Loop (pin) 2 3mm 3mm 38mm

Cut off two side pieces same shape, round off at the top using a smooth curve. Then cut grooves into each of these faces on the inside. The grooves should be 12 mm wide, 6 mm deep and 205 mm long, the 2nd groove should be 3 mm wide, 6 mm deep and 209 mm long. Finally, drill a 3mm hole into either side of the side panel, as shown in the picture 25mm from the bottom and 21mm from the front. The purpose of this is that the hinge pin will pass through this hole, on each side of the door.

On the top part in front, the angle should be reduced (bevel) by 80 degrees. This is done so that the door of the bread bin rests against top part evenly, and not on a very thin edge.

Round the edges of the door, the lower part on both sides, and the upper part only on one side; if desired, install a door opening handle.

If desired, adjust the size and type of bread bin yourself. If you decide to add ventilation holes, then drill holes with a diameter of 3mm in the upper part back wall from plywood. To complete the work, it is recommended to process mineral oil or varnish with food varnish.

Almost anyone can make a bread box out of plywood with their own hands, since this does not require expensive equipment. You can get by with a simple tool and a few tips, which we will describe in our article. The most important thing is to be careful and use quality material, since the structure will be used for storing food.

What you need for work

If you decide to make a bread box, then first of all you will need to have on hand following materials and accessories:

Plywood This is the main material, the quality of which is very demanding; it is best to choose the 1/1 grade, in which both sides are attractive and reliable.

You also need to choose the ideal sanded sheets, then you will have to process the surfaces much less, which will significantly simplify and speed up the work process, their price is higher, but the difference is not so great

Accessories These can be used when doors are made in the form of bolts, or curtains, if the door will be attached to them. Handles are also used, which should be not only comfortable, but also beautiful.

As for fasteners, it is best to use 3 mm thick self-tapping screws, and additionally strengthen all connections with wood glue

Tool For cutting the material, either manual or electric tool. Do not forget about the need to grind the ends; for this, ordinary sandpaper with different grain sizes is used
Protective compounds The wooden surface must be protected from moisture and contamination by applying protective coating. Since we will be making a bread box, it is necessary to use either special oils or food varnishes to exclude negative impact on human health

Important!
To do quality product, you need to take very careful measurements and mark out all the elements.
In this work you cannot do without a tape measure, a ruler, a square and a carpenter's pencil.

Process description

We will tell you how to properly prepare the material, how to choose it, and what nuances you should pay close attention to. Every detail is important here, so you should carefully follow all recommendations.

Preparatory stage

This stage includes a number of important actions:

  • First you need to choose a high-quality manufacturing material; it is better to use plywood with a thickness of about 10 mm, then the bread box will be durable and can withstand even significant loads. We recommend using options with top layer from birch veneer, since this wood is harder and does not emit resins, unlike conifers;

  • You also need to make drawings of the bread box with your own hands from plywood, perfect accuracy is not needed here, the most important thing is to determine all the dimensions so that you can clearly navigate the work process and avoid mistakes. Can be used ready-made options from the Internet or specialized literature, finding them will not be difficult, and we will tell you about one interesting solution;

  • Based on the sketch, the dimensions of all elements are determined, and then it is necessary to draw a sheet of plywood. Arrange each element wisely to use material as economically and efficiently as possible.

Cutting and assembly

The main work begins after marking, there is nothing complicated about it, however, the instructions given in this chapter will help you understand the process even better:

  • First of all, you need to cut all the elements, for this you use either a jigsaw or a hand saw with a fine tooth. The material is very easily damaged when sawing, so along all lines it is necessary to apply a mixture of wood glue and water in a ratio of 1:2 and wait until the composition dries;

Important!
Working hand tools, do not press too hard, this will achieve maximum .

  • After cutting, you need to carefully process all ends, for this purpose the usual sandpaper, surfaces are leveled and rounded to make the elements more attractive;
  • Grooves for doors are cut in the sides, which simultaneously serve as boards for cutting bread. In the middle there is a partition on which there is a block with grooves. You can do it simpler: do not make a partition, but attach a solid door to the curtains; the decision is up to you;
  • Next, the elements are fastened together, it is important to drill small-diameter holes before screwing in the screws to avoid cracks in the material. It is better to choose thinner fasteners so that they are unnoticeable on the finished product; the caps are recessed and then sealed with putty to match the color of the surface;
  • Then you need to attach the doors if they are installed on curtains. Also, don’t forget about the handles; with their help, using the bread box will be much more convenient. Lastly, a protective composition is applied to the surface.

The name of the technique itself is born from the expression “decuoper”, it means “cutting”. It is worth noting that decoupage was originally an attempt to copy the complex and elaborate Chinese and Japanese furniture designs. Venetian craftsmen also began to create in this technique, cutting out and applying entire images to furniture, after which the design was covered with dozens of layers of varnish.

A little later, already in England they began to use decoupage to decorate small items of ladies' toiletries and jewelry boxes. Later, celebrities became interested in decoupage, for example, Queen of France Antoinette Marie, Byron Lord, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. In the 19th century, decoupage became widespread. The main motives for the work were sentimental and romantic. From England, decoupage spread to America as a hobby, and there this technique became popular during the period between the world wars.

Today, this sophisticated technique is experiencing its rebirth, and is spreading throughout the world. different countries when decorating clothes, fashion accessories, New Year's decorations, cutlery, watches and much more.

The expanding range of materials allows you to work with any surface:

  • Kermic;
  • Textile
  • Metal;
  • Wood and stuff.

And with the help various techniques, for example, gilding, shearing, give scope to imagination and creativity in execution. Almost every home has a bread bin. It is usually made of wood or plastic and is not particularly beautiful. Most often, it is one-color and monotonous. Breathe into it new life, and the decoupage technique will help you add color to it with your own hands.

Around the 18th century, decoupage gained popularity in low- and middle-income communities. Chests, panels and even bread bins are beginning to be decorated using this technique.

Unfortunately, wood does not have a very long service life, and often a bread container for the kitchen is not resistant to changes in temperature and humidity and becomes old. Since the decoupage technique originated and was used in the Middle Ages, when bread bins were made of wood, today pictures are created and appear precisely on wooden bread bins Oh.

Master class on decoupage of a bread box

For high-quality decoupage we will need: acrylic primer, acrylic paints, manicure dots, a napkin with an ornament, PVA glue, sandpaper.

Technology:

  2. After this, you can apply a layer of acrylic primer. Apply a uniform thin layer, after which you need to wait until the primer dries.
  3. Next, apply acrylic paint to all sides of the bread box. paint brush. The main thing is to stick to the same layer of paint so that in the future the drawing, for example, with olives, will lay flat. Do not forget that the paint is applied in several layers, each of which must be dried.
  4. When the paint has completely dried, we proceed to the most important part of our master class - gluing the drawing. We take a napkin and cut out the design along the contour, then carefully apply PVA paint to the napkin and glue it to the bread box. After this, the bread box must be thoroughly dried.

  2. Using a sponge, carefully apply a layer acrylic paint. Don’t forget to let the applied compounds dry.
  3. Next, we apply preliminary markings with a pencil on which the drawing will be applied.
  4. We soak a fragment of a napkin with a pattern in PVA glue and carefully apply it to the surface of the bread box along the markings previously marked with a pencil. Then coat the fragments with glue and dry thoroughly.
