  8. Pour concrete mix. For the foundation, use cement grade M 250. The reinforcement cage must be completely hidden under the liquid mortar.
  9. Cover the foundation with waterproofing material. To do this, use roofing material or thick polyethylene. This is necessary so that the moisture inside the concrete evaporates evenly. If you leave the foundation open, the top layer will dry out quickly. In the future, this is fraught with the fact that the base will crack. The concrete mixture will harden in 4-5 days. Preparation of materials

The barbecue oven will be located on the street, albeit under the roof, but, nevertheless, it is precisely this fact that makes it necessary to use bricks of a grade not lower than M-250 during its construction. The fact is that sometimes these devices are operated at air temperatures below -25 degrees, and this is a giant "physical stress" for brick structures - rapid heating and then rapid cooling.

The total number of this brick, taking into account the laying of the pipe, is 1500 pcs. Fireclay (refractory) bricks are mandatory for use when laying fireboxes and in other places where there is contact with the flame from the combustion of firewood. This brick can withstand a combustion temperature of 1000 degrees, and an ordinary brick does not exceed 450 degrees. By the way, you yourself can determine the heating temperature of the body by the color of the heated surface, and decide which brick to use. If the iron bar at the top of the flame turns dark red - the temperature is 350 0С, Red - 400 0С, if its color is bright red - 450 - 500 0С, if red turning into white - 550 and above. Usually this color occurs when air is forced to pump in the furnaces of melting crucibles, and if it is dazzlingly white - 700 0C and above.

As can be seen from these data, an ordinary brick will not withstand in the furnace for more than several seasons, and if the furnace is laid out on the street, then even less. As a solution, we will use an aqueous solution of two types of stove mixture - ordinary for laying walls and refractory for laying fireboxes, barbecues and fireplace walls.

Putting out the BBQ

The entire area of ​​the street gazebo will be on a monolithic concrete slab reinforced with reinforcing bars. Therefore, laying out an additional foundation does not make sense. It is enough for us to spread a sheet of roofing material folded in half for waterproofing in width and proceed with laying.

The linear dimensions of the barbecue are 250 cm long and 80 cm wide.

We lay out the starting row in order to identify deviations in the horizontal position of the future furnace design. In the second row, we correct the errors by leveling with a mortar, and on the third row we plan to lay ash pans for the combustion chambers of both the cooking cast and the cauldron.

Furnace work is a rather dirty process, so we keep all consumables on special pallets.

For the normal maintenance of the masonry process, it is necessary to have water, the right amount of oven mixture and the necessary electricity to turn on the electrical appliances necessary for construction work.

We will fix the barbecue fittings with the help of an oven fastening tape, by laying in the masonry and fixing it with self-tapping screws.

The blower door is installed in place, the lower row of tapes is laid in the ordering masonry, the upper one is straightened and will now be fixed.

A simple but very effective method of fixing tape in masonry. The next glad will lie "in a run" and the seam will be covered by the middle of the brick of the next row and the self-tapping screw will firmly press into the masonry.

The sides of the barbecue decided not to make rectangular ones. They look much more effective if they are rounded. This process is rather messy, so it is advisable to do it before starting work, having prepared in advance the required amount of bricks - blanks for corners and other decorative elements.

Pay attention to the corners of the stove - they are lined with ovalized ceramic bricks, and to the organization of the ash pan. The corners of the brick are cut at an angle of 45 degrees. This greatly simplifies the natural shedding of ash into the ash pan.

All bricks are cut to size with a cutting wheel for ceramics using a “grinder”, but in no case are they chipped off with a pickaxe.

The right ash pan for the combustion chamber is ready. The line behind his twin brother - an ash pan for the furnace under the cauldron.

In parallel with the ash pans, niches are laid out for storing firewood and for storing working tools for serving barbecues. To give decorativeness, we decided to push ¼ of the brick outward.

The grate will be laid on two metal corners placed in grooves - in the front in the seam of the masonry, and in the back in a special slot.

Shrinkage of bricks is carried out only with a rubber mallet. This tool does not damage the masonry and at the same time gently sets the brick in place.

Pay attention to the air gap between fireclay and ceramic bricks in the masonry of the combustion chamber. This place is intended for basalt cardboard and reliable thermal insulation against overheating of ceramic bricks. The thickness of the basalt board must be at least 5 mm.

We lay the basalt cardboard in the groove and after that we put the grate in place.

Basalt cardboard should be equal in height to the height of the combustion chamber, therefore, so that it does not interfere with the process of lifting the walls of the furnace, we press it out a little. There is a very high chance of crushing it. Then he will lose his thermo-protective properties, and will not perform the functions assigned to him.

Next to the firebox for the cauldron, we will install a special chamber for obtaining coals for the barbecue. This is an iron, home-made box in which logs are laid, set on fire and the firebox door restricts air access to them, and in such a simple way producing coals both for the barbecue and for cooking on the firebox for a cauldron.

All barbecue doors open with the left hand. Because the right one is much more convenient to use a poker and a shovel. If you are left-handed, then think over this trifle in advance, which can then grow into big problems.

A metal box for coals must be wrapped with basalt cardboard to protect ceramic bricks from contact with it during its operation.

When laying fittings, be sure to measure its verticality using a special building level for furnace work. It has magnetic properties and is attached to iron surfaces, thereby freeing your hands from having to hold it.

The cauldron, which we are going to use for preparing various oriental dishes, has a volume of 22 liters. It is very large in diameter, so we did not find a finished slab with such an opening for it and decided to make a slab on our own. A metal sheet 10 mm thick was taken as a surface, marked it, found the middle and drew a circle with a compass. Cutting steel of this thickness is easiest using autogen. To do this, we simply went to an auto repair shop, where they do bodywork and tin work, and there, in 20 minutes, they cut a hole according to our size in the center, as well as along the perimeter of the sheet.

The hob under the cauldron is ready, it will withstand all the incidents of cooking. There is a huge minus - an excessively large mass.

It is necessary to install such a massive thing only on the masonry, which has already seized, and as further actions showed, premature operations with its installation led to the alteration of part of the barbecue masonry.

Let's start laying the firebox for the hob

The main task is to lay fireclay bricks in the inner space of the combustion chamber. In order not to reduce the volume of the firebox, I recommend laying refractory bricks on edge. So the internal space of the firebox will be used less and thus the cooking process will be accelerated.

It began to rain outside, and we covered the newly laid laying of the firebox.

We install the door on the firebox and fasten it according to the same principle as the door, blowing it, only we do not use wire twisting, but fasten the oven mounting tape onto turnkey bolts by 8. I especially recommend this procedure for upper door fastenings. It is they who experience very high heating temperatures during the combustion of firewood.

Despite the desire to quickly complete the construction of the barbecue oven, it is better not to work in the dark. The flaws in the laying of the order are not visible.

The next day, we started installing the ceiling over the woodshed and a place for the tool. If this part of the furnace does not experience thermal stress, then the best option is to use paired metal corners with a cross section of 50 mm. This width allows you to lay the brick so that it protrudes above the edge of the corner and thus provides the opportunity to lay the brickwork without defects.

We lay the corners in such a way that on the vertical posts there is an overlap on the masonry of at least 5 cm at each corner.

A prerequisite for paired corners - grab them by welding to each other. During the period of ground movement, there is a possibility that the concrete slab can “play” and if the corners are not stuck to each other, then part of the floor can move away, and part will remain. The first row of masonry lies on the corner with one side, the second and third lie on two corners, and the last, like the first, only on one corner.

It is necessary to adjust the total length of the rows for the floor so that the bricks do not protrude beyond the edges of the floor. The easiest way to cut the length of a brick is with a cut-off wheel. In addition, the outer row of bricks will protrude ¼ of the way, forming a decorative ledge.

After the overlap is laid out, we proceed to the formation of the “hearth” of the brazier and the corner masonry of the base under the stove for the cauldron.

“UNDER” the brazier we lay out with a poke of fireclay bricks. Look at the left side of the photo. On the bricks with a construction pencil, grooves are drawn for laying the slab for the cauldron.

We lay the bricks for the slab dry, after drawing out the place for the groove, remove them and use a cutting wheel to make a groove 15 mm deep. 10 mm is needed to fit the metal plate and 5 mm is needed to lay the basalt board. After the bricks for the slab are prepared, we lay them on the mortar, lay the basalt cardboard and then, together with a partner, lay the slab itself. Carefully, we put the plate into the groove with a rubber mallet.

We install a cauldron, check the tightness of the installation and then “dry” lay out a row of bricks on the right edge of the slab. We measure the required length of the brick cut for the row. Only after that we lay the row on the solution.

After this procedure is completed, we proceed to laying the back wall of the barbecue. She plays two roles. The first is to give transverse rigidity to the entire structure, and it is also a kind of screen from prying eyes from the street.

In the same way as we laid the stove for the cauldron, we lay out the hob in the same way.

We raise the walls of the barbecue. Its width is 30 cm. There will be no open flame here, only coals, so it’s enough to lay out the “under” from fireclay bricks, and raise the walls from ordinary ceramic bricks. At the same time, lay out the base of the fireplace. All chimneys run along the back wall of the barbecue, it is above the fireplace that they will converge into one chimney.

“Under” and the walls of the fireplace are laid out from fireclay bricks, there will be an open flame here, so this part of the barbecue cannot be invested from ceramic bricks.

Lay out the inner walls of the fireplace, setting the brick on edge. The mortar for masonry should only be made from a special thermal mixture that can withstand temperature extremes.

All wall defects can be corrected right on the “campaign” of masonry, but done with the utmost care.

Overlapping for a fireplace can be made using a metal corner. And then make a strapping for strength.

Do not forget the rule - be sure to lay basalt cardboard between fireclay and ceramic bricks. This is a prerequisite for the longevity of the fireplace.

There is no upper vault near the fireplace. Its role is played by the masonry tapering on each row (1/4 brick minus). Also, behind the third row of fireclay bricks, chimneys come out from below and then the air flow goes into the pipe.
