How roller blinds are attached to the window, types and methods. How to hang roller blinds on plastic windows without drilling

Fabric roller shutters are well-deservedly popular with consumers due to their practicality and attractive appearance. Although the correct installation of roller blinds is somewhat more difficult than hanging traditional curtains. However, any home master who has taken accurate measurements and follows the instructions will cope with it.

Types of roller blinds

Fabric roller shutters are a straightened fabric sheet wound on a shaft placed above the window. The bottom of the canvas drops and rises depending on the need for shading. There are several types of fabric roller shutters on sale, differing in size, mounting location and installation principle.

Classic open

The system of classic open curtains is best suited for wide openings, panoramic windows and bay windows

Mounted on the wall, ceiling, in the opening. They move with the help of a chain or spring mechanism.

Advantages:

  • cheap, the cost depends on the area of \u200b\u200bthe canvas;
  • close immediately a large area of glazing;
  • take up minimal space.

Disadvantages:

  • when lowered, they interfere with the opening of the window;
  • quickly get dirty with dust;
  • require drilling of walls or ceiling.

Shaft with fabric roller blind in a plastic box to match the color of the window frame

The shaft with the wound canvas is hidden in a plastic box in the color of the window frame on which it is attached. The blade adjustment is controlled by a spring or chain mechanism.

Advantages:

  • the box and guides merge with the contour of the window frame; when folded, the curtains are invisible;
  • guides are installed on the glazing bead, the canvas is almost adjacent to the glass;
  • does not interfere with the opening of the window;
  • do not take away the area of the window sill;
  • can be used on skylights;
  • it is possible to install two boxes at the same time in the upper and lower positions.

Disadvantages:

  • the most expensive design of fabric roller shutters

MINI blinds open

Open MINI roller blinds are mounted on the window frame or sash

Mounted on a window frame or sash. Are regulated by the chain mechanism.

Advantages:

  • fastened without drilling the window profile;
  • guides are stretched invisible fishing line;
  • do not interfere with the opening of the window;
  • do not occupy the area of the window sill.

Disadvantages:

  • require careful handling;
  • glue in the heat can "float"

An interesting variety of mini-roller blinds is double day-night roller blinds. This is a canvas of alternating dense and transparent strips of the same width, unwound in two layers. Shading is done by combining stripes in layers. The main advantage of the model is the smooth regulation of natural light.

Roller blinds day-night smoothly adjust the level of natural light

When deciding which type of roller blind to choose for a particular room, you should consider the interior design, the size and position of the windows.

  • The space of deep window openings and window sills is usually used for decorative and functional purposes. It is recommended to install cassette roller blinds in them, which occupy a minimum of space and do not distract attention.
  • Shallow openings without a window sill and narrow windows are best decorated with curtains above the opening. A long cornice and a wide canvas to match the color of the walls will visually increase the size of the window.

For all types of roller blinds, it is possible to integrate an electric drive to automatically adjust the position of the curtain.

Mounting methods, choice of type of fixation

Classic roller blinds are mounted on plastic brackets with dowels driven into the base. Depending on the design, the base can be the horizontal surface of the ceiling or opening, the vertical surface of the wall or opening.

Classic roller blinds are mounted in the opening, behind the opening to the wall or ceiling

Cassette and mini-rolls are fixed on the window profile with self-tapping screws. But more often, models with fastening without drilling are used. The shaft, guides and clamps are glued to the profile with double-sided foam tape, and on the opening leaves the shaft is additionally fastened with a clamp.

The position of curtains with a spring mechanism is fixed by the spring itself. When the canvas is pulled down, the spring does not hold it. As soon as the tension has stopped, the mechanism clamps the shaft in a predetermined position. To raise the shade, it is pulled lightly to release the clip and then released to allow it to rise to the desired level.

The position of the canvas in the chain mechanism is held by a pair of latches worn on the chain. So that the chain on the opening window does not sag, a latch is attached at the bottom of the profile, into which it is tucked.

Preparing for installation

Before buying a roller blind, you need to determine the dimensions of the product for each double-glazed window. The fabric should cover the glass well, but not go beyond the frame.

  • The mini-rollo should be 3 cm wider than the glass. On the sash from the side of the handle, the overlap is 1 cm, and from the side of the hinges - 2 cm.
  • The size of the leaf in the system with U-guides mounted on the glazing bead exactly corresponds to the size of the glass. If the bead is oblique or rounded, the guides are glued to the frame. In this case, the size of the fabric is equal to the outer perimeter of the glazing beads.
  • The canvas mounted in the opening should be 4 cm narrower than it. Measurements are taken at the window box.
  • The size of the curtain mounted on the wall or ceiling is determined depending on the design solution. It should be wider than the opening by 10 centimeters or more, and its edge can fall to the windowsill or to the floor itself.

All roller blinds are made in the form of a constructor with all necessary components. You don't have to buy additional materials.

1 - Control mechanism for raising and lowering the curtains. 2 - Brackets. 3 - Guide line. 4 - Chain limiters in the extreme positions of the web. 5 - Bracket platform with adhesive tape. 6 - Magnetic clamps of the lower bar

When installing a roller blind in an opening, the use of a spirit level is mandatory! Walls that appear to be even can turn out to be crooked, causing curtains to skew, work with problems, and look unaesthetic.

The roller blind installed inside the opening looks aesthetically pleasing

Operating procedure

  1. Assemble the roll: insert the chain mechanism into the fabric shaft at one end and the plug at the other; attach the brackets to the shaft.
  2. Attach the roller blind to the place of attachment, set its horizontal position according to the level.
  3. Mark the drilling points through the mounting holes in the brackets with a pencil.
  4. Remove the brackets from the shaft.
  5. Drill holes, drive in dowels, screw brackets.
  6. If the model has a guide line, thread the ends of the line through the special holes in the brackets, tie with a double knot, cut in the middle.
  7. Pull the free ends of the fishing line through the loops at the ends of the plumb line.
  8. Screw fasteners for the guide line to the side walls of the opening, insert the free ends of the line into the special holes, tighten them with the adjusting screw.
  9. Insert the shaft retainers.

How to hang an open MINI roller blind on a window frame

Instruments

Mounting tools will be needed only for roller blinds mounted on the frame with self-tapping screws:

  1. Drill with a thin drill.
  2. Screwdriver.
  3. Screwdriver Set.
  4. Pencil.

The procedure is the same as when attaching the roller blind to the wall, with the difference that a puncher, chippers and dowels are not needed. Most MINI models are fixed without drilling the window profile.

Operating procedure

  1. Remove the curtain and accessories from the packaging.
  2. Assemble the roll: insert the chain mechanism into the shaft from one end and the plug from the other, attach the brackets to the shaft.
  3. Attach the shaft to the frame, center it relative to the glass.
  4. Mark the outer sides of the brackets with a pencil.
  5. Remove the brackets from the shaft.
  6. Degrease the mounting points. Attach pieces of double-sided foam adhesive tape to the profile according to the marks.
  7. For sash-mounted rolls, connect the brackets to the clamp.

  8. Glue the brackets to the tapes, firmly pressing the parts to the profile.
  9. Insert the roll into the brackets.
  10. If the model has a guide line, thread the ends of the line through the holes of the brackets, tie with a double knot, cut exactly in the middle.
  11. Insert the roll into the brackets with the blade towards the window.
  12. Insert shaft retainers
  13. Pull the free ends of the fishing line through the loops at the ends of the fabric plumb line.

    Roller blind with installation on the window sash without drilling is additionally fixed with a clip

  14. Stretch the fabric to the bottom. Glue the fasteners for the guide line to the bottom profile with double-sided tape. Insert the free ends of the fishing line, tighten them with the adjusting screw
  15. Attach the stops to the chain in the extreme open and extreme closed positions of the blade.
  16. For curtains on a sash with a chain mechanism, glue the chain retainer to the profile at a height of 10 cm from the window sill.

On windows of small height, you can do without a guide line. And so that the closed curtain does not move away from the window in the ventilation position, you should use magnetic latches. They are mounted on the lower profile of the frame and on the plumb line.

To open such a curtain, do not forget to first disconnect the magnets, and then pull the chain.

If you want to remove the roller blinds from the PVC profile, you will face the problem of cleaning the plastic from the glue. Take a household hair dryer and a rag soaked in solvent. Heat small areas of glue with a hair dryer at maximum temperature and immediately wipe them with a rag.

Operating procedure

  1. Remove the curtain and accessories from the packaging.
  2. Degrease the glazing bead and the profile with the included alcohol wipes or a cloth soaked in alcohol.
  3. Remove the protective film from the U-shaped profile and, pressing firmly, glue it onto the vertical glazing beads.
  4. Release the back of the box from the protective film.
  5. Release 10-15 cm of fabric from the box.
  6. Bring the box to the upper profile of the frame, thread the ends of the plumb line into the guides.
  7. Glue the box to the frame.
  8. Remove the box from the glued mounting brackets. Firmly press the corners to the profile for reliability.
  9. Install the box in place.
  10. Attach limiters to the chain to fully open and close the curtains.
  11. Hang a decorative weight on the bottom loop of the chain.

Installing roller blinds at home or in the office is not so difficult. It will be much more difficult to choose from a huge variety of fabrics suitable for the interior.

Roller blinds for plastic windows: all about the design, methods of fastening and caring for the canvas

For several years now, a couple of windows in my house have had horizontal blinds. Everything about them suits me, except for tedious care: washing each lamella is a tedious and long task. I'm thinking of replacing them with cassette roller blinds for plastic windows.

In order not to buy a pig in a poke and not get confused when ordering, choosing the design or color of the curtains, I decided to study them in advance. If this is relevant to you, join us - we will figure it out together.

Choosing a design

Rolled curtains are called, which are a flat canvas wound on a shaft when a light opening is opened. There are no assemblies, ruffles and draperies here, the style is minimalistic.

But it is he who attracts many, as he ideally suits many modern styles in the interior, does not eat up space and does not require special care.

The question of how to choose such curtains must be approached not only from an aesthetic point of view. Of great importance is their design, and the ability of the fabric to transmit light. Well, the price, of course.

Let's start with the design features.

Cassette

There are two main cassette designs of roller blinds on the domestic market: UNI 1 and UNI 2. They have in common that the winding shaft is hidden in a cassette - a closed plastic box with guides fixed along the window frame. The edges of the fabric are tucked into them, so they fit snugly against the sash, regardless of its position.

  • UNI 1 - this is a model in which the guides are installed between the glazing beads of the window frame. Its use is impossible if the glazing beads have a small height (less than 4 mm) - there will simply be nothing to fix the guides to. And if this succeeds, then the fabric sheets will stick to the glass. In addition, the glazing beads themselves reduce the area of the luminous flux.

  • UNI 2 differs from the previous model in that the guides are attached to the sash frame. They do not block the gap, keeping its dimensions, and the curtain itself is located at a distance from the glass and does not stick to it.

These designs are good because when the curtain is completely lowered, they do not let in light from the street, since the edges of the canvas are tucked into the guides. There is no gap between them and the window frame.

Cassetteless

More simple the Mini system has neither a cassette nor rails. Only a shaft and an elementary chain control system for lifting and lowering the web. If the curtain is installed on a flap, then magnets are also installed on the frame below. They keep the canvas from sagging by attracting the metal bottom bar to them.

The choice in favor of this system is often associated with the fact that it costs much less than cassette analogues, and it is easier to install it. Many do it by hand.

Standard

This option is very similar to the previous one structurally. The difference is that standard roller blinds can be installed not only on plastic windows in the opening, but also mounted on the wall or ceiling above the window.

One curtain may well cover the entire window. Unlike mini, designed for only one leaf. But since the weight of a wide canvas is much higher, and the distance between the attachment points is farther apart, the shaft in this model is made of a larger diameter.

The standard version has many advantages:

  • No need to think about how to measure the correct length and width. The main thing is that the canvas closes the opening, and it can protrude beyond its limits at any distance.
  • You can do without measurers, manufacturers and installers, since you can choose the size of roller blinds for your window in many stores such as Leroy Merlin and other hypermarkets with goods for home and repair. And it is always cheaper than a custom-made product.
  • You can mount them on the wall, on the ceiling and even between the walls or in a doorway, turning the curtain into a door or a mobile partition for space zoning.

With two canvases

Double roller blinds are of two types:

  • With two or more canvases of different types, which can be exactly one after another or offset. For example, one is transparent and the other is dense. They move up and down independently of each other, each has its own control unit.

  • With two layers of fabric consisting of strips with different light transmission. They are also called "zebra" or "day-night". The control unit includes a mechanism by which these strips are displaced relative to each other. If opaque and transparent are arranged parallel to each other, an alternating striped pattern is obtained, and diffused light enters the room through the transparent areas. If the stripes are shifted so that they are staggered, you can get complete shading of the room.

How to hang such curtains, you decide - they are compatible with both cassette and cassetteless designs.

Types of paintings

To choose practical, beautiful curtains that suit your interior and meet your requirements, you need to know what materials are available for making curtains. The main parameters are the type of fabric and its ability to transmit light.

As for the color or pattern - this is already a matter of taste. There are simply no restrictions here, you can order a canvas of any shade. Monophonic, with a print, an ornament and even with a photo printing.

What fabrics are used

Such curtains should be resistant to fading, not wrinkling and not attracting dust and dirt, because they cannot be washed in the usual way.

Not many fabrics meet these requirements, therefore, for the manufacture of rolls, they most often use:

  • Polyester 100%. This is the most common option due to the practicality of the fabric, which has antistatic and reflective properties, a low degree of shrinkage.

  • Polyester mixed with other fibers- viscose, cotton, satin. Such combinations allow you to create an interesting structure of the canvas and achieve a more natural look.
  • Screen- a fabric consisting of two-thirds of polyvinyl chloride and one-third of fiberglass. It is very durable, moisture resistant, keeps its shape perfectly - does not stretch or shrink.

  • bamboo fiber. Valued for naturalness, moisture resistance, antibacterial properties. It can also be combined with other fibers for an exclusive look.

Light transmittance

Among the fabrics we offer for the production of roller blinds, you can find materials with different ability to transmit sunlight. They can be divided into 4 groups:

  • Transparent are an alternative to traditional tulle. They almost do not interfere with the penetration of light from the street.

  • translucent depending on the color of the fabric and its density, they create diffused lighting of varying degrees of brightness in the room.

  • Semi-darkening are able to delay up to 70% of the light seeking to enter the house. Their professional name is dimout.

  • Completely blackout or blackout - they will not let the sun's rays through at all, since they are absolutely opaque.

Mounting methods

The most familiar and logical way to install fasteners for any curtains is to drill the brackets with self-tapping screws. But it is very undesirable to “leak holes” in the frames of plastic windows, since they have sealed heat-saving chambers inside.

Therefore, the developers of roller blinds that are attached directly to the double-glazed window have come up with other installation methods that make it possible to do without drilling.

On glue

This method is mainly used for fastening lightweight mini-curtains without a cassette. Anyone can handle it.

Image Step-by-step instruction
t Step 1

Degrease with acetone the surface to which the landing part of the bracket will be glued.

If the frame is cold, it is advisable to warm it up with a hairdryer.

Step 2

This part is already equipped with an adhesive layer. You just need to remove the protective film from it.

Step 3

Immediately after the release of the adhesive surface from the protection, we glue the part to the predetermined place, firmly pressing it to the surface.

Step 4

We insert brackets into the base, to which the shaft of the roller blind will be attached.

This method has several disadvantages. The main one is the low reliability of fastening. Over time, glue or double-sided tape ceases to perform its functions. And if you need to clean the canvas, then before removing it, you will have to tear off the brackets from the frame, and then glue it again.

For hanging brackets

Plastic cap brackets are much more convenient than Velcro. And much more reliable. But they can only be used on opening or flap doors.

Image Step-by-step instruction
Step 1

Open the sash to release its top edge.

Step 2

Put on the bracket.

Step 3

Insert the product shaft into the brackets.

For clamp brackets

Such metal brackets can withstand a lot of weight, so they are used to mount heavy roller blinds. They are securely attracted to the frame with the help of a movable foot.

How to care for roller blinds

A huge plus of these products is also that the fabric is impregnated with special compounds that do not allow dirt to penetrate into the structure of the fabric. Whatever raw material it was made from. Therefore, the problem of how to wash or clean roller blinds is not the worst.

Depending on the degree of contamination, the following methods are used:

  • Dry cleaning using a vacuum cleaner with a special nozzle.

  • Stain removal done with a damp melamine sponge or a regular school eraser. If these do not help, you can use a natural-based stain remover that does not contain solvents. To do this, the canvas must be carefully removed, laid on a flat surface, treated with a stain, and then washed off with a damp sponge. In this case, do not rub the fabric too actively.

  • Wet cleaning often needed for kitchen curtains, as grease stains, soot, traces of tea brewing or other products may appear on them. For it use neutral liquid detergents. For example, dishwashing liquid. The canvas is removed, laid horizontally and gently wiped with a sponge with a product applied to it. You can wash it off with a clean sponge or shower. The main thing is that there are no divorces left, which will be very noticeable in the light.

To prevent the product from stretching, it is better to dry it also in a horizontal position, spreading it out on a flat surface.

If the contamination is fresh and insignificant, it is quite possible to do just a damp cloth without any cleaning products.

Conclusion

In my opinion, such decor for windows is worthy of the highest praise. It is practical, beautiful, versatile. Hanging roller blinds on plastic windows without drilling is a matter of a few minutes. They save space and allow you to use the entire area of the window sill.

There was a time when there were no curtains for windows. In the best case, the window opening was covered with a sackcloth or a piece of canvas according to the size of the frame. Time passed, curtains and tulle made our windows beautiful and elegant. What now? We again return to the functional piece of the “canvas”, whose name is blinds.

Varieties of blinds

For home comfort today there are a dozen types of such structures: with vertical or horizontal slats, roller blinds and pleated windows, for roof windows and inter-frame windows, for arched openings or bay windows, beautiful Roman curtains and multi-impressive curtains, with electric or protective (rollers), unusual photo blinds .

This type of window decor is made from different materials: they are wooden and bamboo, metal (aluminum) and fabric, plastic and paper. Among all the blinds, roller blinds are gaining more and more popularity.

There are several types of them, differing from each other in the material used, dimensions, method of attachment and installation option:

  • Classic open blinds look great on large windows. They are installed with mounts on the ceiling or on the wall or in the window opening. They are controlled by a chain or a spring mechanism. Such curtains occupy a minimum of space, cover a large window space, due to this they have a low cost. At the same time, they quickly become dirty, windows do not open well with them, installation requires male strength.

  • Cassette closed Uni. The twisted fabric is fixed in a plastic box, which can match the color of the PVC window panels. The cassette is mounted directly on the frame. Due to the chain or spring mechanism, the fabric is untwisted from the roller. Buyers like this type of roller shutter, as the box is hardly noticeable on the window block, the canvas does not interfere with opening the window, and literally moves away from the glass by a centimeter. The window sill is not cluttered with the structure. Two boxes can be installed on each frame: at the bottom and at the top. The curtains will open and close towards each other. Can be mounted on inclined skylights. The only drawback is the high cost.

  • Mini roller blinds open can be installed on the sash and directly on the frame. The mechanism of the system is chain. These roller blinds are self-adhesive, that is, windows that do not require drilling or are mounted on self-tapping screws or brackets. The mechanism does not interfere with opening the window, the curtain does not occupy the window sill. Due to the invisible line used, the curtain needs to be handled with care. If double-sided tape was used for fastening, it can “melt” from high temperatures and the structure will fall.

When choosing the type and type of roller shutters, do not forget that:

  • they must comply with the overall design of the room;
  • if there are large window sills, it is better to leave them for flowers or under the shelves, and choose cassette curtains with a frame mount;
  • for small windows, roller blinds with mounting on the ceiling or wall are more suitable - this will visually enlarge the window openings.

Installation methods

Before choosing the installation method, you need to decide on the installation location of the roller shutters. They can be installed on the ceiling or the upper slope of the window, on the wall above the opening, in the wall on vertical slopes, on a blind window, on an opening sash, on glass.

Take into account that the longer the mounting bracket, the more the web is wound onto the shaft. For a textured or long canvas, choose the longest brackets.

There are the following ways to install roller blinds:

  • by drilling a wall, ceiling or window opening, installing plastic or wooden dowels into the holes, fixing the brackets with self-tapping screws or screws;
  • by drilling the window frame and fastening the holders with self-tapping screws;

  • without the use of a drill and a screwdriver, by installing curtains on brackets-clamps (clips);
  • without drilling, by gluing on double-sided tape.

How to assemble?

When buying roller shutters, the kit will include all the necessary fastening materials:

  1. Control hoist with bushings and chain.
  2. Side plugs, clamps and brackets of the mechanism with a cross for self-tapping screws (you may have to buy metal brackets for the wall, ceiling or clips for the window sash).
  3. Guide line (synthetic string).
  4. Limiters for the chain, fixing the position of the web at the top and bottom.
  5. Mounting plate and double-sided tape.
  6. Magnets-clamps for attaching the curtains with the lower bar to the frame.

Manufacturers offer a large selection of kits for mounting roller blinds. Choose the one that suits your mounting method, and then you do not have to buy additional individual elements. If your boxless blinds were store-bought rather than custom-made to exact measurements, there may be a problem with fitting the design to size.

You can trim some types of curtains yourself. For this:

  • measure the window: when installing on the frame, the best experts recommend taking into account the width of the clearance plus the width of the glazing bead - this will be the width of the web and shaft;
  • unfold the curtain and remove it from the shaft;
  • measure and cut off the excess shaft with a hacksaw;
  • cut (saw off) the excess of the lower bar to the curtain;
  • lay the canvas on a flat surface;

  • measure the desired width and draw an auxiliary line;
  • cut off excess fabric with sharp scissors or a construction knife;
  • the length of the canvas can not be cut, but simply fixed with the help of limiters; if trimming is needed, then disconnect the web from the shaft, cut it off from above and glue it to the shaft again.
  • The roller blind is now ready for assembly.

Rolleta can be with or without a guide line. It depends on how the structure is assembled. But always start by reading the instructions.

Assemble the curtain without a string as follows:

  1. Determine from which side it will be more convenient for you to use the control mechanism.
  2. Place a roll of canvas slightly unfolded from the top edge in front of you.
  3. Locate the adhesive strip with the protective film on the shaft, remove it.
  4. On the very edge of the fabric, place the shaft on top so that the adhesive strip lies on the fabric.
  5. Glue the canvas to the shaft.
  6. Start winding the fabric onto the shaft by simply turning the shaft towards you and winding the fabric at the same time. Do this carefully, the fabric should lie flat.
  7. Insert a metal or wooden weighting bar into the hem of the bottom edge.
  8. Insert a side lock into the shaft on one side, and a lock with a control mechanism on the other.

The string in the roller shutter stretches the canvas and does not allow it to sag in the roof windows and when the sashes are opened. The fishing line protects the product and keeps it intact longer

There are several ways to attach a string to a window panel. The chosen method depends on the design features of the roller blind. We offer one of the ways.

Assemble the curtain with a string in the same way as the previous method, with the following steps:

  • The weighting bar for the lower edge of the canvas should be equipped with side holes for fishing line.
  • Cut the string from the set in half.
  • There are holes on the brackets where the roller blind will be attached. Pass one piece of fishing line through one fastener and tie with a double knot.
  • Do the same with the second piece of fishing line and paired fasteners.
  • Install the shaft with the curtain in the brackets, unfold the fabric to the maximum desired length.
  • The fishing line hangs freely vertically along the canvas on both sides.
  • Pass it through the holes on the weight.
  • Attach brackets with holes for fishing line to the bottom panel of the frame.
  • Align the canvas, stretch the strings and tie them to the brackets.
  • Now you can raise and lower the curtain roll, open and close the window - the strings will securely hold the canvas.

This is ideal for skylights.

Step-by-step installation instructions without drilling

You can do without dowels and self-tapping screws if you use the following types of fastening: double-sided tape or clamping brackets (clips). With adhesive tape, fasteners can be glued to the frame and the opening sash of the window or glass. But the clips are used only on the wings.

When attaching with tape, follow these simple instructions:

  • The frame must be dry and warm, without condensation.
  • Treat the joints with degreasing agents (both on the frame and on the fasteners).
  • Mark the attachment points with a pencil, use a level for this. Focus not on the window sill or frame, but on the horizon, otherwise the curtain fabric will warp.
  • Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape and stick on the fasteners.
  • Remove the second protective film and attach the fasteners to the frame or glass.
  • Insert the side clips for the curtain (one is blind, the other is with a chain).
  • Insert a roller with a canvas into them.

  • Having decided on the length of the canvas, install limiters on the chain.
  • At the level of the lower bar, make markings on the frame for attaching magnets.
  • Put metal washers (hardware) on the adhesive tape and fix it on the frame.
  • Attach the magnets from the kit symmetrically to the curtain.
  • Connect hardware with magnets.

Clamps-brackets (they are also clips, they are also spring brackets) are a real fixing find for a home craftsman. They are made of metal and PVC. For plastic windows, it is better to use plastic clips.

For installation, use our simple instructions.

  1. Open the window.
  2. Put on two brackets on top, try on how the window will close.
  3. Mark the places where the clips are attached to the frame so that they do not interfere with the roller blind and the frame.
  4. For safe use, stick the clamps with double-sided tape to the frame (do not forget to degrease the surfaces).
  5. Insert the side fasteners.
  6. Install the roll shaft.
  7. Check the functionality of the design.

Correctly install roller shutters on metal brackets

If before that it was mainly about attaching curtains to window frames, now let's talk about installing structures in a more time-consuming way: using a drill and a screwdriver. In addition to these tools, you will need a level, a plumb line, a screwdriver, dowels, metal brackets, self-tapping screws, a pencil, a pen or marker, a hammer, a stepladder or a table (chair), glue (in the form of PVA or liquid nails) - if you accidentally made a hole larger than necessary, put the dowel on the glue.

You will need all these tools to fix the roller blind box to the wall or ceiling or the upper slope of the window opening using metal brackets. Accurate calculation is very important in this work. Be careful when marking. Extra holes in the wall will not decorate it.

Before starting installation, check if the surface is level. Any bump or dent can interfere with the smooth installation of the structure. Align the wall or, if possible, choose other fixing points.

On the wall

The curtain is installed on the wall for several reasons:

  • to hide the defects of the window sill and window;
  • to visually enlarge the window;
  • to warm up the room.

Procedure:

  • Determine the center of the window.
  • Attach the assembled roller shutter with brackets to the wall above the upper slope of the window.
  • Center it and level it.
  • Mark with a pencil or marker the attachment points through the holes in the brackets.
  • Detach the brackets from the roller.
  • Drill holes according to the marks, install dowels in them.
  • Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, fix the brackets.
  • For a line roll, follow the instructions above.
  • Install the shaft in the brackets, secure with clamps.
  • Put the web movement limiters on the chain.

To the ceiling

When you need to visually stretch the room, install blinds from the ceiling. They can end at the level of the windowsill or be longer. At the same time, the same metal brackets are used for installation, but they are turned with holes towards the ceiling.

If the level shows you a violation of the horizon due to uneven ceilings, place a small wooden or plastic pad under the bracket to level the structure.

On the upper slope in the window opening

Since the slopes are not always even and horizontally located relative to the floor, be sure to use the level. Otherwise, the canvas may warp, the roller blind will not be able to function correctly. In addition, be especially careful in choosing the size of the curtain. For mounting, use the same metal brackets and our instructions. If you fix the brackets to a wooden wall, ceiling or slope, then this can be done with self-tapping screws without drilling and dowels.

On the frame sash

We have already told you how to fix a roller blind without drilling, now we want to introduce you to the installation of curtains with PVC guides.

The cassette model with a box is installed in the following way:

  1. Remove the side plugs from the box.
  2. Attach the box to the top bead of the frame and mark the holes for attaching the structure.
  3. Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, screw in the screws on both sides.
  4. Put the plugs in place.
  5. Release the canvas, about 10-15 cm.
  6. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape on the rail.
  7. Carefully glue both guides so that the canvas is under them, slightly pressed against the glass.
  8. Place chain stops.
  9. If your curtain is without a chain, then you need to install a decorative weight included in the kit on the bottom bar.

Another way to install roller blinds is not from above, but in the middle or from below. This original method was made possible thanks to the emergence of a new type of Mix curtains. The design is so interesting and elegant that it will definitely attract your attention. At the base is a guide string along which the canvas moves. In this case, a light box can be located both at the top and in the middle or go down.

Depending on which mounting method you will use, the dimensions of your curtain will be different, although the window is the same.

When you take measurements, remember:

  • Curtains mounted on the ceiling and wall are the easiest to model. Here you can make a mistake by a couple of centimeters, since they are superimposed on top of the window opening. The model is completely dependent on the vision of the designer. The width should be made about 10 cm wider than the opening, and the length - as desired.
  • When installing on a wall, please note that the top box will take approximately 5 cm.
  • The roller blind in the window opening is 4 cm less than the installation site.
  • The sheet for roller shutters with PVC guides must be exactly the width of the glass, as the guides are attached to the glazing beads.

  • For the Mini system, the fabric should be three centimeters wider than the glass: one centimeter - on the glazing bead at the handle, two centimeters - at the hinges.
  • When using a guide string, the width of the canvas is equal to the width of the glass plus 3 cm if you do not want side gaps.
  • Before mounting on metal brackets, make sure that the length of the leg is enough so that later the roll does not touch the wall. ½ shaft radius + 1 cm - the distance to the edge of the bracket from the wall, necessary for the normal operation of the roller blind.
  • Humidity in the room where such blinds are used should be no higher than 70 percent.
  • Since the canvas is impregnated with a special dirt-repellent composition, do not try to clean it often with a wet method. Before use, check the composition of the canvas and the rules for caring for it.

In order for the roller blinds to serve you for a long time, raise and lower them using the control mechanism (chain or weight).

  • Incorrect measurements. Do not forget - the concept of "web width" is not equal to the concept of "curtain width". Don't forget the fasteners and box.
  • Inappropriate mounting method. If you have brackets for the window sash in the kit, and you plan to install the box on the wall, then you have made a vain purchase: you cannot install the curtain in this way, and the size will not fit.
  • Not enough details. In stores you can buy fasteners and accessories, but you need to start with the seller of the product. And here it is important to be in time within two weeks from the date of purchase. Don't forget the check!
  • Faith that it will be possible to do without drilling. This does not always happen. Double-sided tape is not omnipotent. Attaching them to a box to a wall or ceiling does not make sense, and it is dangerous.
  • Uneven mount due to overestimation of his eye. Feel free to use the level! Redoing is always more offensive than doing it right the first time.
  • Impossible to remove the control unit. When buying ready-made curtains, check their design features: there are models in which the control mechanism cannot be removed. This will result in your window having two right-handed or left-handed curtains. Ugly and interferes with opening the window.
  • The brackets are too close to the wall. This will interfere with the unfolding and folding of the roll. Consider other details or options.

How to care

But now the moment has come when the curtains are installed and you actively use them. So, soon the question will appear on the agenda: how to clean them?

  • Since the roller blind is a canvas, it absorbs not only dust, but also odors. Ventilate the room regularly: this way you will get rid of odors, and the dust will be shaken off.
  • If necessary, you can use a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a cloth nozzle. If you do this with every cleaning, the curtains will stay clean for a long time.

  • An eraser is a good tool. The canvas is impregnated, and the eraser will wipe off various stains well. Just don't grind to the holes!
  • If this does not help, remove the box, disassemble it and take the canvas to a good dry cleaner.
  • Don't have dry cleaning or extra money? Then pour warm water and a non-aggressive detergent without bleach into the bathroom. Put the canvas in the bath and gently rub it with a soft sponge. Rinse the curtain several times. Make sure that detergent (especially granules) does not remain on the cloth.

Specialization: master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing work and laying flooring. Installation of door and window blocks, facade finishing, installation of electrics, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

Roller blinds have become widely used relatively recently, but have already gained immense popularity due to their attractiveness, functionality and ease of installation. In this review, I will tell you how to measure windows before buying products and how to fix them correctly. There is nothing complicated in the works, and almost anyone can handle them.

Overview of the main mounting options

It should be noted right away that roller blinds differ in their design and size, so they can be attached using different methods. I will talk about five of them, which are the most popular and used most often.

All of them are reliable and durable, so you need to choose the solution that best suits your needs and suits the design of windows in your house or apartment.

Option number 1 - location above the window opening

This method is suitable for products that are larger than the window opening. That is, you get a canvas that will cover the entire window completely, this option is good where you need to minimize the penetration of light into the room. What should be noted here:

  • If you need to limit the penetration of light into the room as much as possible, then the canvas should be at least 10-15 cm wider than the window opening. Options look good in which the roller blind is the same width as the window sill;
  • The length of the canvas depends on the design of the window sill, if it protrudes beyond the wall, then naturally the roller blind should not go beyond it. If the window sill is made flush with the wall, then the structure can be 10 cm longer for more reliable protection against light penetration;
  • Again, if you need designs that will simply limit the view, then the color can be anything. If you need to close the windows from the light, then choose dark options, they are much more effective.

Let's figure out how to install such roller blinds. For work, we need the following materials and tools:

Tools and materials Usage
Fast mounting dowels A standard size of 6x40 is enough, usually there are 4 fasteners per product, but with a large width, their number may be more, you need to look in advance at the diagram that comes with the product and deal with this nuance.

Often fasteners are already included in the kit, but they are too flimsy and small, so unpack the product and look at the dowels - if they are very small and made of thin fragile plastic, then it is better to buy better products, especially since their price is low

Roulette and level To take all the necessary measurements, you can’t do without a tape measure, and in order to set the structure evenly, you need a level. Working by eye is not the best solution, very often later it turns out that the system is crooked, which spoils the whole result of the work
Perforator with drill In order to make holes, we need a power tool with a drill of the desired diameter and length. If you don't have one, you can rent it for an hour, it's inexpensive, but you don't have to buy expensive equipment for a few holes.
Screwdriver With its help, screws are screwed into the dowels and the roller blind box is fixed, most often cruciform versions PH2 or PZ2 are used.

Now let's figure out how to fix the structure with your own hands:

  • The roller blind must be wound on the drum, most often it is sold in this form. The structure must be attached to the wall and centered so that it is located exactly above the opening and the protrusions on both sides are the same. Also, do not forget to check the horizontal level and make marks for self-tapping screws (after removing the side plugs of the drum to open the mounting holes);
  • Drilling is done with a hammer drill. If you have a wooden wall, then you do not need to drill anything, you can simply screw the screws into the intended places.

If you have a drywall wall, then it is best to use Driva-type dowels for fastening, they are simply screwed into the wall and you get a finished hole into which the screw is screwed. In such a dowel, it is possible to ensure reliable fixation of the drum.

  • Then the screws are screwed in, the drum holder is attached to the surface and attached. Everything is simple here, and the main thing is to press the element well, you should not apply too much force, as the plastic may crack;
  • Then a shaft is installed on the rod with teeth, after which you need to put the curtain in the way it will be located in the open position, and snap the latch on the chain, which is located closer to the wall. After that, the curtain is lowered to its lower position, and the latch is placed on the outer chain. All the diagrams are on the instructions, so you will not get confused.

Option number 2 - location in the window opening

Another option in which the roller blind closes the entire window. It is only good for structures that do not open, as the system will interfere with the sashes, remember this. The mounting process is in many ways similar to the one described above, so I will focus only on those aspects that differ from mounting outside the opening:

  • You need to choose the optimal dimensions of the product, if everything is clear with the length, then you need to figure out the width. The fact is that the drum on which the canvas is fixed is always a little wider, so your roller blind should already have an opening of 4 centimeters - 2 on each side, do not miss this important nuance;
  • Fastening can be done either above the window frame, if you have space, or to the top of the opening, which is much more common. The work does not differ from the above, and the installation method depends on the type of base, it is important to align the position of the drum, if the opening is uneven, then it is better to place a plastic plate under the structure, skew will cause the system to work poorly;

  • Due to the different position of the roller blinds, you must make sure that the option you choose can be installed above the window, some modifications are only suitable for wall mounting.

Option number 3 - fixing to the window sash with self-tapping screws

This solution is the most common, as it has a number of advantages:

  • The design does not interfere with opening one or two window sashes;
  • You can open the curtain on one half, and leave the other closed;
  • There is a window decoration option when different canvases are used;

  • You can use both conventional options and designs with guides that allow you to fix the roller blind in the desired position and prevent it from hanging out. This option is especially good for skylights, which are located at an angle.

As for the choice of roller blinds for sashes, the general rules are simple:

  • Width should be approximately 4 cm more than glass width to cover 2 cm of frame on each side. This indicator may be higher if the design does not interfere, and it is undesirable to do less, since gaps may form along the edges;
  • The length is usually selected based on the height of the glass plus 6-8 centimeters, but again, deviations are acceptable if they do not affect functionality and do not worsen the appearance of the structure.

Products are fastened according to the following algorithm:

  • First of all, you need to remove the plugs from the drum and position it so that the canvas protrudes the same distance on both sides of the glass;
  • Then you need to fix the cassette with four screws - two on each side. Some advise pre-drilling holes, but if you have special self-tapping screws, then you can do the work this way - plastic can be easily screwed in;

  • It is necessary to glue the guides, for this, the surface of the plastic is first degreased. Next, the protective layer is removed from the double-sided tape glued to the guides, they are inserted into the groove on the cassette and strongly pressed against the frame, make sure that the elements are located strictly vertically;

  • Next, you need to carefully stretch the canvas along the guides and straighten it, it should move smoothly and not warp;
  • Lower the roller blind to the lowest point and insert the latch on the inner chain. After that, you can put on the plugs and pull the canvas up to the top so that it protrudes by about 1 cm, and put the latch on the outer chain. Job completed successfully.

Option number 4 - gluing to the sash

We will figure out how to fix roller blinds on plastic windows without screwing screws into them. It does not always make sense to make holes, because if you decide to remove the structure, then holes will remain on the surface, which are unlikely to be repaired.

Therefore, I will talk about another mounting option that is simple and does not leave damage to the frame:

  • It is best to use Easy Fix fasteners, these are small pieces of very reliable double-sided tape. First you need to mark the position of the structure, after which you need to degrease the surface so that the fastening is more reliable;
  • Next, you need to attach the holders at the locations, the lower protective film is removed, and the element is pressed as tightly as possible to the surface;

  • The side clamps of the shaft are placed on the glued holders, after which the structure is assembled, and all the above steps are taken to set up the system. If necessary, guides are also glued.

To fix the curtain in the lower position, you can use a piece of Velcro, which is also glued to both the frame and the canvas.

I would like to note that I have had roller blinds installed in the same way for five years now, nothing has fallen off either on the blind or on the opening sash, so if someone says that this solution is unreliable, do not believe it.

Option number 5 - spring brackets for opening doors

Let's figure out how to hang roller blinds on plastic windows without screws and gluing, this option is only suitable for opening parts, it is very simple to implement:

  • It is necessary to open the window sash on, and then put two brackets on the upper end of the frame that will hold the structure. The most important thing is to arrange them at the width you need;

  • A drum is inserted into the holder, after which all the necessary settings are made and, if necessary, guides are attached, which are glued, as in the cases described above;

  • After attaching, check how the window closes, if everything is fine, then you can use the construction as usual.

If you have a window with both a blind and an opening sash, then the choice of how to attach a roller blind to the part that does not open is up to you. I would recommend gluing, as it is both simple and reliable.

Conclusion

Mounting a roller blind is a simple process, especially if you are gluing a structure or using brackets, because no tool is needed to work. The video in this article will help you understand some of the nuances we have considered even better, and if you do not understand certain details, then write your questions in the comments under the review.

Attaching roller blinds to a window or wall is not such a difficult job as it might seem from the outside. If desired, any owner of the apartment can install such structures, while saving a significant amount on the services of professional installers.

To do this, you need a simple set of home building tools and basic skills in working with them. In this article we will try to take a closer look at how to fix roller blinds: methods of fastening in one case or another, a phased installation process, features and nuances of work.

Types of design and options for the location of roller blinds

Roller blinds come in all colors and textures.

Roll-up systems are a modern version of window light-shielding systems that combine the style of vertical blinds with the practicality of classic curtains. More and more people, wishing to update the interior of their home, turn their attention to these convenient and easy-to-use structures.

The rich color range and texture of the material make it possible to use roller blinds with equal success both in residential and office premises. With their help, you can give the interior the necessary direction: in one case, it can be distinguished by grace and a bright play of colors, and in the other, it can be emphasized by a businesslike and strict style.

Design features

All roller blinds are structurally composed of a light-protective fabric and a shaft with controls. The canvas can rise, winding on a shaft, or fall, blocking access to outdoor lighting inside the room.

There are two main types of roll systems:

  1. Open type. In this case, the shaft with a strip of fabric wound around it is not closed by a protective box, but is installed on the end fasteners in an open way.
  2. closed type. In such a system, the shaft is installed in a special box. Firstly, it protects structural elements from external damage and dust, and secondly, it gives the curtains a more presentable look. By choosing the right color of the box, you can organically fit it into the surrounding interior.

Roller blind installation work

Method of fastening curtains in relation to the window

In order to hang fabric roller blinds on windows, you will need the following tools:

  • building level;
  • pencil;
  • tape measure or long ruler;
  • drill or perforator;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.

Before proceeding with the self-assembly of the structure, you should carefully read the attached assembly instructions.

Also make sure that the product is complete, check that all parts are included.

Mounting methods

There are several ways to install roller blinds, differing in the place of their attachment and the set of fasteners.

You can attach them to the ceiling, the wall above the window, or directly to the window opening or to each individual sash.

In this case, the following mounting options can be used:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • spring brackets;
  • double-sided mounting tape;
  • side rail design.

Mounting with self-tapping screws

In this way, you can mount roller blinds on plastic windows, wooden frames, on a wall or ceiling. First of all, you should assemble the entire structure:

It is best to fix roller blinds with self-tapping screws on wooden windows. If you suddenly decide to change the light-shielding structures for others, the holes in the tree can be easily puttied and painted over.

It will be much more difficult to seal holes drilled with self-tapping screws in metal or plastic frames. For more information on installing roller blinds, see this helpful video:

Installation with double sided tape

Adhesive tape will only withstand light structures

Most often, using double-sided tape, roller blinds are attached to the frames of plastic windows. Thanks to the adhesive tape, the window frame remains intact, and after removing the curtains, no holes remain on it.

Since the adhesive tape has a certain tensile strength, it will be possible to attach light-shielding structures of relatively low weight to it, most often intended for one window sash.

Work on the installation of curtains to the window frame is carried out in the same manner as for self-tapping screws. Initially, measurements and marking of the fastener place are made with a pencil and a level, and then the curtain is adjusted to the center of the window.

Before attaching to tape, clean the frame from dust

Adhesive tape on one side is attached to the box or fasteners of the blinds. After that, the protective layer is removed from the outside of the adhesive tape, and the structure is carefully glued to the surface of the frame in the right place.

Instead of tape for roller blinds, you can use building glue or liquid nails. However, it should be borne in mind that the structure will be attached to the frame very firmly, and certain difficulties may arise during its dismantling.

Before attaching the adhesive tape to the frame, it should be cleaned of dust and other contaminants, and, if necessary, degreased with a solvent, gasoline or white spirit.

Mounting on spring brackets

This method is used to fasten roller blinds to opening window sashes. This method is good in that it makes it possible to do without drilling window frames, and also allows, if necessary, to dismantle and reinstall the roll system on the window. See this video for details on attaching roller blinds to windows:

Before installation, you should assemble the curtain structure, and, attaching it to the sash, mark with a pencil the installation locations of the spring brackets. According to the marks, we install the brackets and the shaft attached to them.

We put on the side covers on the brackets, lower and raise the curtain fabric to make sure that the structure is installed correctly and functions normally. We install a stopper on the control chain in the marked place, fixing the canvas in the lower position.

Installing the side rails

Clips for string guides are fixed with self-tapping screws

If the curtain system assumes the presence of side guides in the form of strings, then after mounting the shaft on the window sash or wall, additional elements should be installed.

To do this, take a string, measure it and cut it to the desired length. From the bottom of the frame, on both sides, you will need to install the appropriate clamps for the guide strings. They can be attached using self-tapping screws, double-sided tape or mounting glue. We fasten the string on the edges of the shaft in specially defined places (see instructions). We measure the distance between them and set aside exactly the same size on the bottom of the frame, marking the attachment points of the lower clamps.

After installing them, we pass the string through the holes of the lower bar on the curtains. We attach the lower edge of the string to the lower clamps, so that it is tightly stretched between them and the shaft, forming a guide for the fabric curtain.

As you can see, installing a roller blind of any design is not so difficult. The main thing is to have the skills of owning building tools and desire. In this case, the installation of roller blinds on the windows should not cause you serious difficulties.
