Wallpaper on the floor of the wall. How to combine wallpaper. Arrangement of color accents

Sooner or later, we all think about changes in life: about changing jobs, places of residence, or maybe not about such global ones, for example, about repairs. Renovation is a serious step, even if you decide to freshen up only one room. This is not only the investment and effort, the time spent, but also the complexity of the choice.

So that the results of the renovation do not disappoint you, you need to pay attention to the size of the room and its functionality. There is a huge variety of finishing materials, but wallpaper has rightfully taken a leading position for many years.

Modern materials

Oddly enough, fabric is considered the oldest ancestor of modern wallpaper; it was used to decorate the walls in the houses of the nobility. But progress does not stand still, over time, the fabric coating was replaced with a more affordable paper one. Along with traditional paper materials, many synthetic analogues are used.

Of course, it is not so easy to decide among the many proposed materials:

The leader among other options are undoubtedly paper wallpapers, they are the most environmentally friendly, although not so practical.

A more practical choice would be in favor of vinyl wallpaper. This is the same paper, but applied to a PVC base, which makes such a material more durable. They can be cleaned using a damp cloth.

Perhaps this is the most suitable solution for a bathroom or kitchen. You can find vinyl wallpapers in hardware stores that look like fabric, they are known as silkscreens.

Non-woven wallpaper is considered the most progressive and rather expensive coating. Fleece is a cellulose-based non-woven material, you can even say that it is an improved paper counterpart. Several layers of cellulose soldered together make a very durable, moisture-resistant and, importantly for living quarters, breathable fabric.

Such wallpapers are made both smooth and embossed, they are often used for painting. Coatings are also produced not entirely from non-woven fabric, but only on its basis with various surfaces, both paper, vinyl and even fabric. Their price is much cheaper.

DIY repair

If you decide to glue the wallpaper in the room without resorting to the help of specialists, then you just need to use the recommendations of the leading masters.

The first step is to prepare the walls. Old wallpaper needs to be removed. Note that different materials have features when they are removed. Vinyl and non-woven are removed without difficulty, just pull the bottom of the canvas, but paper ones are better to pre-wet or steam with a steam generator.

If, after removing the old coating, you find bumps or cracks, then it is best to plaster the walls. The final step before pasting the walls with new wallpaper will be a primer.

The next point to consider is that the glue should be used exclusively for the selected type of wallpaper, otherwise they may simply peel off. Glue consumption depends on how much wallpaper you need per room.

This is truly an unpredictable occupation of repair, who would have thought that you would need not only aesthetic taste and knowledge of the basics of interior design, but also a trite knowledge of mathematics! After all, in order to avoid unnecessary spending on materials that are not needed or remain superfluous, you need to determine their exact amount.

First, you need to decide on the parameters of the wallpaper roll: the width is usually standard 50 cm or 1 m, but the length (number per roll) can vary from 7 m to 18 m, these data are presented on the label.

Second, take measurements of the room. Height from ceiling to floor and the perimeter of the walls to be glued.

And finally, do some simple calculations. The perimeter of the room must be multiplied by the height of the walls, we get the area to cover without deducting window and door openings. Now divide the resulting product by the area of the roll (length times width) and get the required number of rolls. If you don’t really want to do this kind of calculation, there are ready-made tables or online calculators.

I would like to note one more important point, such a rough calculation is suitable for plain wallpaper or with an asymmetrical pattern, but if the pattern is selected joint to joint, add 20% to your calculations.

Wallpaper selection features

Before deciding which wallpaper to choose for a room, you must first take into account the functionality and style in which the room as a whole is made. The size of the room is also of great importance, because with the help of wallpaper you can visually correct errors in layout and lighting.

Small areas are best covered with wallpaper in light colors without rich and catchy patterns, otherwise bright walls will visually reduce the already modest area. Low ceilings will visually lift the vertical pattern.

Add warm cheerful colors to a cold and gloomy room. Spacious bright rooms sometimes lack comfort, and this situation can be corrected by the design of wallpaper with floral embossing.

Large rooms

In general, large and spacious rooms are a great option for a flight of creative imagination. The most ideal place to experiment with color and texture. You can safely combine bright colors with a large pattern and plain canvases, varying the combinations.

Most often, the largest room in the apartment is the hall. But it also happens that the most spacious room is the only one and includes a living room, a bedroom, and an office.

In this case, such a design technique as zoning will come to the rescue. You can highlight the recreation area, marking it with a bright print against the background of plain walls in the same color scheme. You can also note the intricate texture of the niches and columns in the room.

Another interesting technique used for spacious areas is wallpaper with a 3D effect. These are canvases with a printed three-dimensional pattern, and interspersed with reflective particles create a three-dimensional image.

Such wallpapers are used when zoning space. The paintings look realistic and creative, but due to the significant cost, they are not available to everyone.

Photo wallpapers in a modern interior

If 3D wallpapers are best suited for spacious rooms (in small rooms it is difficult to achieve a three-dimensional effect), then classic photo wallpapers are a universal solution. Moreover, the variety of existing options is amazing and it is quite easy to get confused when choosing themes for photo wallpapers.

Most popular options:

  • Various landscapes: majestic mountains, exciting sea or noble forbs of Provence;
  • Urban themes, it can be both a modern metropolis and a quiet cozy courtyard;
  • Bright large floral motifs, with the help of modern laser printing, a rather realistic effect is achieved.
  • Fairy-tale characters will delight your kids in the nursery.

Wall murals really will be a win-win solution in the interior of a room with wallpaper, but a couple of tips should be taken into service. First, do not choose too bright a palette of colors and too dynamic image, it can soon get boring. And, secondly, do not clutter up the wall with wallpaper of this kind with furniture.

Bedroom wallpaper

The bedroom is the most intimate and inaccessible room for strangers. When choosing wallpaper for the bedroom, we strive to follow the principle of peace and tranquility, because where else if not in this room you want to relax and unwind. But at the same time, I don’t want to fall into the trap of clichés and clichés, but to make the design cozy and unique.

The main principle of choosing wallpaper in the bedroom is environmental friendliness. When choosing a color scheme, it is best to focus on calm tones, and if you want to add a twist, then zoning with a bright print on one of the walls or unusual textiles in contrasting tones to the wallpaper would be a great solution.

Wallpaper in the nursery

The main principle of choosing a wall covering for a nursery, of course, is environmental friendliness and safety! As for the design, as we can see in the photo of the wallpaper in the children's room, the flight of fantasy has no limits. And yet, no matter how bright and festive atmosphere you would like to create for your baby, remember that in this room he will not only play and have fun, but also relax and do his homework.

You can visually divide the room with the help of the above-mentioned photo wallpapers, your favorite cartoon characters will be wonderful companions in the play area of the room. And leave the part of the room reserved for relaxation in soothing colors with discreet patterns.

The palette, of course, should be chosen based on the gender of the child and his preferences, but too flashy shades in large quantities should be avoided.

Creating the design of the room on your own or trusting your choice to the designer, do not forget that the repair in the room is a responsible event that can both please with novelty and freshness, and upset with deceived expectations.

Consult with all the inhabitants of the room being renovated, come to a common decision and let the new decoration bring only positive emotions.

Wallpaper photo in the room

The living room or hall is a place of rest not only for guests and acquaintances, but also for household members. Therefore, it is very important that the design and interior design be worked out in this room. One of the solutions in this case is the combined gluing of the walls in the hall.

Advantages

It's no secret that wallpapers differ in patterns, colors, production technology and composition. The right combination of various representatives of this segment allows you to solve a number of problems.

First of all, with the help of a combination, zoning of certain zones is achieved. So, for example, in the kitchen, you can separate the dining area from the work area, and in the bedroom, highlight the wall behind the headboard. Combining visually you can expand the room not only in length, but also in height. This is achieved by using wallpaper with horizontal or vertical stripes.

In addition, by focusing the attention of prying eyes on a particular wall, you can hide minor flaws in the room and uneven walls. By combining, you can highlight niches, ledges, or, conversely, decorate them.

Often in hardware stores you can find wallpaper leftovers that are sold at bargain prices, including new items from 2016. If you approach this issue wisely, then you can save a lot on repairs. At the same time, we can say with absolute certainty that no one else will have such a room.

The main feature of the combination can be called the fact that the wallpaper does not compete with each other, but rather complements. In the following sections, combined wallpaper in the hall of 2 types will be considered, including the design of 2017.

By the way, it is worth noting the fact that oriental patterns, bright colors, stripes and monograms were popular this year.

Combination features

Before starting to consider the features of combining different wallpapers, it is important to know what wallpapers exist in principle. To date, manufacturers around the world produce the following wallpaper coatings:

  • Paper. It would not be a big exaggeration to say that this is the most affordable building material, since it is easy to find in any hardware store and has a reasonable cost. Due to the fact that they are made from cellulose - an environmentally friendly material - these wallpapers can "breathe". But like any paper, they easily become unusable from high humidity, which means that they cannot be pasted over walls in bathrooms and kitchens. They are fragile and short-lived.

  • non-woven. They are made on the basis of non-woven fabric, which, in addition to paper, also includes special fibers, so that they can be dyed. By the way, they can hide the unevenness of the walls, and this is very important if during the repair you do not want to level and prime the surface. Unlike paper wallpaper, non-woven wallpaper does not leave bubbles behind. Remember that the adhesive must be applied to the wall - this is another feature compared to its predecessor.

  • Vinyl. Depending on the technology, they can be produced on the basis of paper or non-woven fabric. The top layer is vinyl, which allows not only washing wallpaper rolls, but also painting. But remember that there are varieties of vinyl wallpaper, which painting is strictly prohibited. This is evidenced by the marking on the packaging. These wallpapers are UV-resistant, have good durability, and are not contraindicated for allergy sufferers.

  • Acrylic. This variety has not gained great popularity among buyers, therefore, manufacturers do not develop this segment. In terms of cost, they may well compete with paper ones, since both paper and acrylic do not tolerate high humidity.

  • Textile. Experts recommend pasting them over bedrooms. Due to the fact that their top layer can be velor, silk or linen, they create a luxurious interior. But, unfortunately, because of the high price tag, they are not affordable for everyone.

  • Liquid. Many buyers wonder why liquid wallpaper is sold in the form of dry mixes. The thing is that they must first be prepared. Sticking liquid wallpaper resembles the installation of decorative plaster. There is no need to level the surface of the wall - liquid wallpaper itself does an excellent job of this task.

  • Glass fiber. The production of fiberglass wallpaper resembles weaving. They are durable, non-flammable, easy to care for, including with the help of aggressive household chemicals. You can also add to the pluses that mold does not form under them and they are not inhabited by pests or microorganisms. Of the minuses, a limited number of patterns can be distinguished, but due to the long service life, glass wallpapers are often glued in office premises.

  • Photoprint. It is advisable to stick wallpaper with photo printing on the wall that is not forced by anything. Since paper acts as the basis for photo wallpapers, experts recommend protecting the top layer with special compounds from moisture and ultraviolet radiation.

  • natural. They are made from natural materials, so they have an increased price. Look great in bedrooms and halls. But it is worth noting that care for them must be appropriate, otherwise there is a high probability of damage to the product.

  • metal. In their composition, paper and aluminum foil, so that they become wear-resistant and moisture resistant. Natural light and artificial lighting, reflected from the surface of the metal wallpaper, visually expand the space.

  • Cork. It is an environmentally friendly natural material. They are made from oak bark, the release of binding resins is achieved by pressing, for durability the product is coated with special natural impregnations.

Quartz, velor, beaded, bamboo - this list goes on for a very long time. All varieties and not to list. But it is worth remembering that a combination is possible with any of the species. The main thing is to take into account their combination on different walls.

You can choose a combination of two colors, starting from a small rule. The main thing is that the colors are “relatives”, for example, you can stick two walls with light wallpaper, and the rest with bright ones.

The combination can be horizontal. Light shades look beautiful with dark ones. Such wall pasting can visually expand the space along the length. When the combination is vertical, the room visually expands in height. Remember that transitions should be properly decorated with moldings, borders or corners.

Another variety can be called a combination of wallpaper of the same color scheme with and without a pattern. This accent allows you to highlight one wall or a small corner in which you can hang a TV or collectibles.

Wall murals themselves entice attention, so they are very it is important to combine wallpaper with a similar color scheme. Otherwise, you can create an interior in which photo printing will be out of place. The combination of two dissimilar patterns or colors allows you to highlight a specific section of the wall.

Remember that the width in a patchwork combination should ideally match, but you can experiment with the length. The main thing is not to mix expensive collections with inexpressive stale specimens.

In Western countries, wallpapers in the "framework" are popular - this is a kind of panel. To begin with, wallpaper rolls are glued on all walls, and only then, depending on the interior, “frames” are mounted either near the bed or below. Plinths or baguettes can act as frames.

For non-standard rooms that have niches or ledges, a combination can beat the interior. This is especially important in older houses where there is a chimney or garbage chute.

There will be a detailed review of all these methods in the following sections.

Combination methods

Let us dwell in more detail on the combination of wallpaper within the framework. Designers recommend that the main wall be pasted over with certain wallpapers, and the remaining three - with wallpaper with a similar color scheme. After that, small rectangular segments with a baguette are glued on the opposite side.

Such a selection with a decorative border allows you to focus not only on the main wall of the living room, but also on the opposite one, where a seating area with a corner sofa can be located.

Combination in the design environment has its own names:

  • Range. This is the use of wallpaper strips of various shades, but of the same color scheme. In this case, it is not necessary to accentuate one wall; you can paste over all four walls with different wallpapers. Experts thus beat the transitions from light to dark tones.
  • Balancing. The key in this option is the central wall, which can have a complex pattern, and the remaining walls are pasted over with uniform wallpaper with related shades.
  • Opposite color scheme. Such an aggressive combination is suitable for youth rooms, but it is worth approaching this process with all responsibility, since if the colors are chosen incorrectly, the psyche can be disturbed.
  • Material texture. When combining wallpapers with different textures, it is important that they are in the same color scheme, but differ in patterns.

Contrast

Combination can achieve certain effects. For example, you can redirect attention away from the defects on the wall by combining two colors. If there are various wires in the room - a burglar alarm, cable TV or the Internet, then you can stick a bright strip opposite them.

In order not to erect partitions from a metal frame and drywall sheets, zoning can be done. This method is used in studio apartments, where it is necessary to visually separate the living room from the kitchen.

Combining pastel and dark colors, you can achieve a visual expansion of small spaces. But remember that you need to experiment with knowledge of the matter, otherwise the result may be shocking, and no one will return the money.

By highlighting the wall, you can draw attention to a certain detail of the interior. In the hall or in the living room, you can select a recreation area in this way.

Game of textures

The selection of combining colors and patterns is actually not an easy task and there are things that you need to pay attention to.

Primarily, wallpaper must be the same thickness only with this combination can good results be achieved. Docking will occur perfectly and the seams will not be visible.

It is worth approaching the patterns with caution, there should not be more than two of them, and the color scheme should be related shades. In this case, you can combine pastel shades with exotic bright ones. The surface must be prepared in advance for pasting.

Remember that before buying wallpaper rolls, it is advisable to attach different copies and see how well they fit together. In this way, you can save money if suddenly the wallpaper does not match. You can ask sales consultants to combine wallpapers, “companions” will be immediately noticeable upon a cursory examination.

It should be borne in mind that according to the texture, paper wallpaper should be combined with paper, texture with texture. If non-woven or vinyl wallpaper has already been chosen as the main wall, then, accordingly, related materials should be their companions.

Color spectrum

Color design can correct lighting problems in a room. So, for example, if the windows of the room look to the north, then using light colors, you can rectify the situation. The same effect is achieved with a combination of dark and light shades, while not forgetting about additional lighting.

Two-tone solutions can brighten up minor flaws. If the living room has inconspicuous niches or ledges, then designers recommend framing them with dark wallpaper, and the rest of the room with light ones.

A few rules for choosing colors:

  • Red. Accents of gray, green or blue will suit him as “partners”. Do not overdo it with golden, purple and brick hues. Brown and chestnut tones look good in combination with red.
  • Pink. When choosing furniture, you should look at burgundy and gray colors. In moderation, a brown tone can be used. But blue and red are strictly prohibited. The same goes for turquoise.
  • Orange. To this color you can choose decor and furniture in green and white. Interior items can also be in purple tones.
  • Brown. This is a classic color, it goes well with blue and gold. You can use gray and beige with caution.
  • Yellow. It needs to be combined with brown or green furniture.

But remember that the selection of beige shades goes well with light wallpaper, and black colors should be avoided in those rooms where there is no additional lighting.

A selection with photo wallpapers is an individual process. After all, the accent wall can be of any color, already from this one should “dance”. If you take into account all the recommendations described above, then everything will work out.

Before you arrange a living room of standard sizes (18 sq. M), you need to develop a design project. Consideration should be given to color schemes, furniture and lighting. Before going to a hardware store, you need to understand whether it is worth focusing on niches and ledges, or, conversely, they should be decorated. In emergency cases, some people resort to dismantling them.

Often, the furniture is already available, so you need to combine colors in the apartment, starting from its shades and other interior details. The color of the wallpaper rolls should either be similar to the color of the furniture, or be a little lighter.

But remember that an overabundance of bright colors can create a depressing environment in which prolonged exposure to a room is fraught with negative consequences.

If the purchase of wallpaper is completely shifted to your shoulders, then it is important to know that you need to keep the batch numbers and colors of the shades. It is desirable that the wallpaper has one manufacturer, this guarantees a combination of at least the thickness of the product, so that seams and joints will not be visible.

The combination in the living room of plain wallpaper with and without a pattern allows you to beat even a small room. Patterns, ornaments and monograms help transform one of the walls, make it stand out from the rest.

In a narrow rectangular room, designers recommend combining wallpaper in a horizontal plane, this combination allows you to visually expand the room. Remember that in rooms with low ceilings, when pasting the walls and ceiling with wallpaper, you can “pull it out”.

By following these simple tricks, you can significantly transform a familiar interior.

For a small room, you need to try to pick up pastel colors. The pattern in this case can be abstract or from the field of geometry. Wallpaper with a large pattern will visually reduce the room. Wallpaper that imitates a cut of a tree goes well with flowers, narrow stripes - with abstract patterns, this also applies to the cage.

Unfortunately, in a hardware store, the lighting is always different from the apartment, which means that the wallpaper you like can look completely different in the room. This should be understood at the stage of selection.

It is desirable to add the main color of the wallpaper to the decor by buying pillows or paintings with the desired color.

Remember that when combining paper and washable wallpapers, they will require different care. If paper wallpapers are wetted, they will become unusable and eventually fall off, which means that at least cosmetic repairs will be necessary. It is important to take into account the interaction of building material with the sun's rays. If the wallpaper strips turn yellow or burn out under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, then they will also have to be replaced. Therefore, experts recommend combine paper with paper, and vinyl with vinyl.

If small children use the living room as a play area, then you should find a small corner for these purposes and stick chalk wallpaper there - you can draw on them. They are easy to care for - just wipe with a cloth.

Mass housing, created in the Soviet years and popularly referred to as "Khrushchev", is still in service. Its demolition has only recently begun in the capital of the Russian Federation, and how many more such houses have been built on the territory of the former Soviet Union is a rhetorical question. Of course, you can wait until the housing is demolished and a new one is built, but for many families this is not a way out of the situation. The living room in the "Khrushchev" can be arranged in the style of a classic, retro or Provence.

To do this, you can put into practice all the previously voiced tips. By the way, wallpapers have good sound insulation and good thermal conductivity, and from this it follows that, in addition to design use, they will also equip the room from a practical point of view.

How to choose the right wallpaper, see the following video.

Options in the interior

The combination of different wallpaper strips allows you to hide the flaws not only of the surface of the walls, but also of the room itself. If you use plain wallpaper, on the contrary, they will only emphasize this shortcoming against the background of curved walls.

By combining, you can separate the work area from the recreation area. If it is planned to create a sleeping place in the living room, then such a solution will emphasize the sleeping area.

As a rule, such zones are distinguished by dark shades or special patterns.

If you combine the wallpaper correctly, you can visually expand the room either in length or in height. To do this, it is enough to use wallpaper with stripes or glue multi-colored canvases.

The combination allows you to beat the room in a minimalist style. All attention is paid to the wall that is pasted over in this way. Emphasis contributes to the designation of the fireplace area or the wall on which the TV hangs.

In the living room, you can highlight niches in this way, on which you can place photos close to your heart, expensive collections of antiques.

The patchwork combination system allows significant savings, since wallpaper residues are sold at bargain prices. But such a combination must be approached consciously, otherwise the wallpaper will have to be re-pasted.

An accent wall looks great in hi-tech or minimalist living rooms. It is only important to choose it correctly, you should not focus on the balcony block or the interior door, since most of it is occupied not by the wall, but by the openings.

Remember that with its help only two surfaces are distinguished, otherwise there is a high probability of oversaturation.

In a narrow hall, preference should be given to bright colors when accentuating small areas, and long ones should be highlighted with calm shades. This technique allows you to expand the living room space. Designers are well aware that by combining cold and warm shades, you can achieve the desired result.

In the living room, it is best to accent the wall behind the TV or sofa. To do this, you should resort to the methods voiced earlier, namely, the combination of dark shades on the main wall and similar colors on the remaining walls.

But in order not to delve into the basics of design, experts recommend paying attention to modern photo wallpapers and building on them. The horizontal combination uses dark and light companion wallpapers. The joint is usually placed in the same plane as the door or armchair, the transition is decorated with a molding or a specially selected border.

Modern designers are trying to move away from the classic horizontal combination and place wallpaper strips only in a way they understand.

By the way, in the upper part, you can decorate the joint between the wall and the ceiling with stucco molding in the appropriate color.

Remember that the molding also performs a protective function, it is not without reason that it is placed at the level of the back of the seats. If the chair is moved close to the wall, then there is a high probability of damage to the wallpaper, but in this case there will be nothing for the molding.

Horizontal combination is the ability to combine incongruous. Thanks to the transition, you can use wallpapers of different thicknesses. Yes, and the texture with this combination is not worth paying attention to. Paper or non-woven - it does not matter, you can combine vinyl wallpaper with textile.

When furnishing an apartment, special attention should first be paid to the walls. After all, they will create the basis of the interior, set the color scheme. Furniture and additional decorative elements are installed later and must be combined with the walls to make the rooms look coherent.

Here we will not scatter over the entire apartment, but will focus on its largest room - the living room or hall. It is in this room that you bring guests, here you can relax after work, arrange a home theater or tea party.

You can immediately go to the store, look at various wallpaper options and choose the best one. But this option has several disadvantages:

  • your eyes will run wide with abundance, and since you don’t know exactly what you are looking for, it will be quite difficult to make a choice;
  • wallpaper selected in this way can be completely not meet your expectations after sticking, since the color on the roll and on the entire wall can look completely different.

Therefore, it is better to first understand a little about the combination of colors, correlate it with your preferences and choose the appropriate option, and only then go to choose something suitable in a hardware store.

If you did not find the ornament you need in the store, here is a master class!

How to choose wallpaper by color, by contrast, by pattern

First of all, you need to decide on the color scheme, and only then think about the presence of a pattern. Think about which shades you prefer: warm or cold.

  • Warm will make the room livelier and brighter.
  • Cold- they will help to visually expand the room (which is especially important for Khrushchev apartments, or other small spaces).

But in any case, you need to maintain a balance between warm and cold tones, otherwise the room may look too stuffy or very inhospitable.

  1. If you have well lit, a sunny room, muffle it with a little cold tones, but if it is cloudy, add warmth to it.
  2. Also, when choosing a color, keep in mind that you will see him every day. You can choose this blouse even light, even bright, and put it on according to your mood, and keep it in the closet the rest of the time. This will not work with wallpaper, so choose not just a color that you like, but one that will not bother you until the next repair.

If you decide that one color is not enough, then you can choose several, combined with each other.

You can combine related colors (from one or neighboring sectors of the color wheel), or contrasting (from diametrically opposite sectors).

TIP: If you decide to use wallpaper with a pattern - do not overdo it, the walls should not hurt the eyes. Particular care must be taken with drawing in a small apartment x (for example, Khrushchev), as it can visually reduce the room, especially for large bright patterns (large contrasting flowers and in that spirit).

related colors

If you're unsure of your design ability, matching colors (solid or similar) is the easiest way! You definitely can't go wrong, and such a solution will always look stylish.

Contrasting colors

This photo is a good example of a combination of contrasting colors. There is a not very noticeable pattern here, but plain wallpaper in this combination would look harmonious.

Ways to combine wallpapers

After getting acquainted with the main aspects of color combinations, you need to move from theory to practice and proceed directly to the choice of wallpaper. There are several ways to combine them:

  1. Pattern + solid color
  2. 2 drawings
  3. Geometry+ one color or pattern

Whichever one you choose, the main thing is to create a harmoniously combined, pleasant interior that will satisfy your preferences and make your home truly cozy. To understand the possible options, let's look at them in more detail.

pattern +solid color

With this combination, most often wallpaper with a pattern is applied only one wall, and the rest are just plain. This will help to make a certain accent, but will not look too colorful.

  • The drawing can be from related colors to plain wallpaper, and from contrasting.
  • A wall with a pronounced contrasting pattern will look like huge picture.

Below are selected interesting options for such a combination, you can choose one of them as a basis for creating a living room design.

A distinct floral print was used here. Please note that the furniture, rugs and pillows are selected exactly from the colors that make up the picture.

The pattern can be both small and large, abstract or concrete.

Also note that the walls with a bright pattern are not loaded with decorative elements (paintings or photos), a maximum of a mirror and that should be very carefully selected. Maintain simplicity and harmony. An overloaded interior will be very tiring.

A good example of a combination of contrasting colors, because without the blue tulle, brown wallpaper would look too gloomy.

With geometric ornament

Geometric elements can compete with floral prints, patterns and abstract ornaments. But you must be sure that strict lines will not oppress you, and will allow you to calmly relax.

Zigzags, rhombuses, lines, ovals, circles, etc. - a wonderful choice for lovers of clarity and order. In this case, you can also try interesting color combinations.

2 drawings

Combinations of two drawings look original and unusual. For a bedroom, it would be too catchy, but for a living room, with the right selection, it’s very good.

In this photo, there is both a contrast of colors and a combination of a floral print and a geometric one. Cool black on the lines and warm red on the petals.

Here, too, combinations of floral ornaments with geometric ones, but already in the same color scheme - related colors were used.

One of the drawings can be expressed much brighter than the other, in which case it turns out to be similar to the drawing + plain wallpaper option. Similar ornaments, made in different colors, also complement each other well.

Combination methods

one wall

The easiest way to combine wallpapers. How to choose a wall? Of course, the one that you most want to attract attention. Usually this is a wall near or behind the sofas in the hall.

Painting or frame

If in the case of a wall completely pasted over with wallpaper with a pattern, it looks like a picture, then here the wallpaper is the picture. Such a huge canvas with a printed pattern.

You can simply stick wallpaper of a certain size, or make a frame around the edges.

In the form of stripes

An interesting way of combining is in the form of separate stripes. For this case, it is better to choose wallpapers that are contrasting with an active pattern, as this will be the main accent!

Niche focus

For apartments in which there is a niche in the hall, it is a great option to beat it with contrasting wallpaper and color. It is also not bad to highlight a niche with an additional source. This is especially important if the niche is far from the window.

Brief Summary

To summarize, let's recall the main points that you should pay attention to when choosing wallpaper:

  • Consider the size and lighting of the room
  • A color scheme
  • Personal preferences.

We hope that for you the process of choosing wallpaper will go smoothly and quickly, and the result will look amazing and delight every day, creating a real home comfort.

In this part, I will directly talk about the technology of gluing combined non-woven vinyl wallpaper using a specific example. If someone has not read, then by combined I mean wallpapers from the same series, but in different colors. For a more detailed understanding of the process, I will give the names of different wallpaper rolls, as shown in the photo below:

The material of the article is quite voluminous, so if you are interested in specific points, then use the navigation menu:

1. Selection and preparation of glue

One of the most important aspects of the process of pasting walls with wallpaper is the choice of glue. Only high-quality glue will make the adhesion of the wallpaper to the wall surface the most reliable and will avoid problems in the future. At the moment, there are a huge number of types of wallpapers on the market that differ in their composition. For almost every type of wallpaper there is a specialized glue.

I used Quelyd glue, designed for glass and non-woven wallpaper. This glue is a white powder that must be diluted in water. If you decide to use this glue, then detailed instructions on the proportions are indicated on the package. Also on the packaging you can find information about the pasting area, which should have enough adhesive.

To prepare the glue, you will need a small plastic bucket with a volume of about 5 liters. The bucket must be filled with the calculated amount of water (see the information on the package), corresponding to the amount of glue that you are going to use. Next, you need to start kneading the water with a brush, creating a small whirlpool and at the same time gently pour in the glue. The whole process must be carried out gradually, slowly, to avoid the formation of adhesive lumps. After preparing the glue, it must be allowed to brew for 15 minutes, then vigorously mix and get to work.

Important: do not dilute all the glue at once, prepare at least ¼ part, try it. Firstly, it will be possible to correct the consistency in the future, and secondly, you may simply not master all the glue, and it is much more pleasant to work with fresh glue.

2. Where should you start wallpapering?

This question is asked by everyone who first encounters wallpapering. Previously, in Soviet times, paper wallpapers were used everywhere, which were glued with an overlap, it was required to start pasting the walls from the window, in which case the joints between the wallpapers in natural light were the least noticeable.

Now the vast majority of wallpaper is glued end-to-end. Therefore, the choice of the starting point for gluing should be based on the following considerations:

  • Convenience. For example, it is more convenient for me to glue wallpaper, moving from left to right, that is, joining and equaling the left edge of the strip;
  • Wallpaper consumption. Before starting pasting, it is necessary to figure out how to reduce consumption and rationally use wallpaper trimmings;
  • Individual characteristics. In the example given in this article, I start sticking from the corner of the room, since this is the only way to ensure an even and neat joint of the combined wallpaper;

3. Technology for gluing non-woven wallpaper

I would like to highlight the general points that will help to understand the principle of pasting walls with non-woven wallpaper:

  1. Strips of wallpaper are cut depending on the height of the wall and the margin for fitting. For example, if the wallpaper is monotonous (without adjustment), then you need to take into account only the height of the wall and the margin for trimming near the ceiling and floor (no more than 10 cm), and if the wallpaper has a pattern that requires adjustment, then, accordingly, we need to take into account the height of the wall, and margin for fitting, and margin for trimming. The margin for fitting depends on the vertical step of the pattern;

    If you are afraid that you may incorrectly calculate the length of the strip needed to fit, then cut the wallpaper in place. That is, you need to glue the first strip, then unfold the roll, join the pattern on the roll with the already glued strip, make a mark and cut off the wallpaper strip

  2. Wallpaper glue applied to the wall with a roller on an area slightly larger than the width of the strip of wallpaper, it is more convenient to smear the corners with a brush;
  3. Wallpaper strips are glued end to end. They begin to glue the wallpaper strip from top to bottom, leading a little to the ceiling, and at the same time align it either along the vertical line drawn (if this is the first strip on the wall), or along the edge of the already pasted wallpaper strip;
  4. Then the wallpaper strip is smoothed out, it is necessary to expel air bubbles and excess glue. Movements must be made from the center of the strip to its edges. For smoothing, use a plastic spatula, a dry clean cloth or a wallpaper brush;
  5. The glue that has come out of the joint of the wallpaper must be removed with a damp, clean cloth;
  6. The joint of the wallpaper must be carefully ironed; for this, a special roller is used, but you can also confine yourself to a plastic spatula;
  7. Excess wallpaper from above and below is cut off with a clerical knife on a metal spatula.

4. How to join wallpaper of different colors in the corner of a room?

This is one of the first questions that arises when pasting walls with wallpaper of different colors. We will try to analyze it in as much detail as possible.

The method of wallpaper docking discussed below is called "trimming" or "cutting" the wallpaper in the corner.

The essence of the method is that the wallpaper is glued with a slight overlap, then a cut is made along this overlap, respectively, through two layers of wallpaper at once, the excess wallpaper is removed, and the joint is smoothed.

In my case, wallpapers of different colors are joined, so the border between the canvases should run strictly along the corner of the room, respectively, and the cut is made along the corner, but if strict separation of the wallpaper in the corner is not required, then it is better to make a cut on one of the walls, retreating a small distance from the corner (5-15 mm), so the joint will be smoother.

An example of docking wallpaper in the corner of a room:

Step 1. We need to draw two vertical lines on adjacent walls, this is done with a simple pencil. Since the width of the roll (in my case) is 53 cm, and the overlap needs to be done, about 5 cm, then it is necessary to step back from the corner of the wall about 48 cm, in one direction and the other and draw vertical lines using the building level or plumb line.

Step 2. Then we need to apply glue within these lines. We take a roller and a tray with glue and carefully apply glue to the wall, coat hard-to-reach places (corners) with a brush.

Step 3. We take a strip of patterned wallpaper and carefully glue it from top to bottom, smoothing out the bumps with a special plastic spatula, and you can also use a clean cloth or wallpaper brush.

In the photo below, we see that the wallpaper is pasted with an overlap on the adjacent wall within 5 cm:

Step 4. Excess wallpaper that goes to the floor or ceiling is cut off with a metal spatula.

Step 6. Carefully smooth the wallpaper in the corner:

1. It is very important that the knife is sharp, then the joint will be neat and even.

2. It is much more convenient to make a cut together: one holds a spatula, the other cuts.

Step 8. Removing cut strips of wallpaper:

In my case, the “patterned” wallpaper turned out to be under the “green”, so I bend the wallpaper a little (photo above) and pull out the cut off strip of the “patterned” wallpaper:

Step 9. The wall under the bent wallpaper must be smeared with glue using a brush, and then firmly press the wallpaper against the wall:

Step 10. We smooth the wallpaper at the junction with a plastic spatula. The joint of the wallpaper in the corner is ready:

If plain or striped wallpaper is used, then it is more correct to make the joint not in the very corner of the room, but on the wall, retreating 10-20 mm from the corner, so it is easier to make a neat cut and the seam will be even

5. Wallpapering around switches and sockets

If the socket and switch have not yet been installed, then steps 1 and 2 can be skipped:

  1. De-energize the switch or socket, and then carefully remove it from the socket and disconnect the wire;
  2. Hide the wire in the socket so that it does not interfere with pasting, having previously insulated it;
  3. Stick a piece of wallpaper over the hole for the switch or outlet;
  4. Take a clerical knife and make a circular cut along the contour of the hole;
  5. Carefully smooth the wallpaper with a plastic trowel next to the hole.

6. Pasting the room with combined wallpaper. Main stages.

After arranging the joint in the corner, you yourself choose in which direction to move. I began to paste over the wall with "green" wallpaper. Having almost completely glued this wall, I left room only for the extreme strip, since it needs to be joined through the slot with the “white” wallpaper.

Then I returned to corner #1 and began to move towards the window, pasting the wall with “patterned” wallpaper:

Then, in corner No. 2, I joined the “patterned” wallpaper with the “white” ones using the same technology that was presented above, that is, through a slit. The docking process is shown in the photo:

I left the wall with the window for last, as it was necessary to replace the radiator and paint the heating riser. I switched to a long wall with “white” wallpaper (item No. 17 according to the diagram), again drew a vertical line along the level and began to paste over the wall from left to right.

In corner No. 4, I made a junction of “white” wallpapers with “green” ones (photo below):

Lastly, as mentioned above, I took up the wall with a window.

The main task when pasting this wall was to join the wallpaper through the cut above and below the window. The point is that due to the window opening, the height of the joint in this case will be minimal, and the joint located under the window can be hidden under the heating radiator. Therefore, the pasting scheme shows that the movement when pasting wallpaper is carried out from the corners to the center of the wall. Strips 33 and 35, as well as 30 and 32 are joined through the slot. The gluing process is clearly shown in the photo below:

Let's combine?

The walls occupy the largest area in the house, therefore they play a crucial role in creating the atmosphere. It is not enough just to choose the color of wallpaper or paint and start repairing. Any designer will first determine the features of the room: is it high or low, light or dark, warm or cold, etc. The purpose of the room is taken into account, the style is selected. Then the colors are already selected and the method of finishing is thought out.

In a spacious and moderately high room, almost any finish is applicable. But the question arises: will the walls appear empty, thereby depriving the room of a significant share of comfort? To avoid this, resort to the use of a combined finish. The same option is applicable for "problem" rooms, as a competent combination will hide the flaws and emphasize the advantages.

You can combine both different materials and different colors and textures of the same material. For example, in kitchens, as a rule, they use different finishes for the working and dining areas - in this case, one material is rarely enough.

In living rooms, a special finish is often used for or the wall against which the sofa stands. In this case, you can combine materials and colors. The same technique is used for the original design of the walls in the bedroom - mainly for the head of the bed.

In fact, combined wall decoration is possible in any room. And in many cases, you can only get by with a combination of colors, based on the same material - for example, paint or wallpaper.

This time we'll talk about wallpaper combination - a technique that is very popular today, which allows you to decorate walls in an original way without spending a lot of effort and money on it.

How to combine wallpapers? A few ideas, methods, techniques

1.How to paste wallpaper in an original way:

vertical stripes

For this, wallpapers of the same width and texture are purchased, but in different colors. Strips alternate through one or through two. Two color solutions are possible: monochrome (using wallpaper of similar shades) or contrast (use wallpaper of different colors).

In the first case (monochrome solution), horizontal stripes will create an interesting play of shadows on the walls. In the second case, the walls will not only be the backdrop for the interior, but also its main highlight, creating the mood of the room.

You can use wallpaper with different patterns: for example, alternate stripes and. A similar solution is suitable for a retro-style interior.

Wallpaper sheets can be joined traditionally or in an original way - for example, with a wave, zigzag, etc. But this, of course, is a job for great professionals.

2. Combined wallpaper:

horizontal division of walls

Combining wall decoration horizontally is very common. This technique is used in the interiors of almost all styles. Wooden and cork panels are often combined with wallpaper and painting. However, no less common horizontal division of walls only with wallpaper. It is also possible to combine wallpapers of similar shades or, conversely, contrasting ones. You can combine wallpaper with different textures: for example, glue the wall with vinyl wallpaper imitating plaster from below, and textile wallpaper from above.

When dividing walls horizontally by combining wallpaper, it is necessary to use a border to decorate the joints. Suitable and paper border, and polyurethane molding, and wooden lath, and ceiling plinth - the choice, as a rule, depends on the style of the interior and on the thickness of the wallpaper. So, if the wallpaper is of the same thickness, it is quite possible to get by with a paper border. But if the thickness of the wallpaper is different, the paper border may lie unevenly.

How to divide a wall horizontally? At what height from the floor should the wallpaper be joined? It also depends on the height of the ceiling. On average, the height of the lower half is 1 meter - this is optimal if the room is low. In a high room, you can make the border between the wallpaper much higher - 1.5 or even 2 meters from the floor.

First, the upper sheets are glued, and the bottom of the sheet is not glued. Left stock. Then the bottom wallpaper is glued, the top of which is also not glued a little. Allowance must also be left. If you stick wallpaper end-to-end, immediately cutting off the allowance, the wallpaper may shrink when it dries, due to which the joint will increase. When both wallpapers are dry, you will need to carefully cut off the excess and glue the wallpaper end-to-end.

Another important point: the junction of the wallpaper should be measured not by the level of the ceiling, but by the floor. Otherwise, when the furniture is placed, the unevenness of the joint in relation to the floor may be noticeable - this will spoil the whole look.

3. How to decorate the wall:

wallpaper inserts

You can first paint the walls or wallpaper them, and then, on top of the primary finish, glue inserts from thicker wallpapers - for example,. At the same time, wallpaper inserts can be framed with thin strips or moldings. A similar design of walls with inserts of a quadrangular or polygonal shape is typical for interiors in a classical style, as well as in baroque and rococo styles.

Inserts can be curly - for this, wallpapers with a large ornament are taken, along which details for insertion are cut out.

4. Combining wallpaper in the interior

inserts over large areas

You can paste over the walls of one room with different wallpapers. This technique allows you to select certain zones. For example, the wall on which the TV will hang can be pasted over with wallpaper that contrasts with the finishes of other walls. You can select not the entire wall, but only part of it: for example, use contrasting wallpaper to highlight the seating area in the bedroom or to decorate the head of the bed.

An interesting solution for combining wallpaper in the interior: pasting the wall behind the head of the bed with bright wallpaper that goes to the ceiling.

By combining wallpapers of different colors, you can divide into personal zones: one wall is pasted over, for example, with orange wallpaper, and the other with green. Each of the residents of this room will have their own zone highlighted in color. Of course, beds, tables, cabinets, etc. in this case, they are placed against different walls.

5. "Patchwork" way of combining wallpaper

To do this, well-matched wallpapers are selected: for example, wallpapers with a different background color, but with the same or similar ornament. Or wallpaper of the same color, but in different shades (peach, orange, terracotta). Then the wallpaper is cut into pieces of the desired size and glued - in an orderly or chaotic way, end-to-end or overlap. You can stick wallpaper in two colors in a checkerboard pattern or imitate a patchwork quilt on the wall. In a word, full scope for imagination!

6. Combination of finishes with

the design of niches, ledges, etc.

To draw attention to a niche or ledge, they can be pasted over with contrasting wallpaper or wallpaper with ornaments with a plain wall finish. The room will immediately "play".

1. When choosing wallpaper to combine, do not rely only on your "color" memory. If you have already chosen one wallpaper and want to match them, carry a piece of wallpaper with you. Although it is better to do simultaneous selection of wallpaper for combination . After unwinding two rolls a little and attaching them one to the other, you can conclude whether the wallpaper is compatible with each other.

2. For combined wallpapering vertically, you need to choose wallpapers of the same thickness, otherwise nothing good will come of it. The best option: choose wallpapers of the same quality, released by the same manufacturer, but in different colors or with different ornaments.

3. If we are talking about wallpaper, creativity is quite acceptable. Especially combined wallpapering allows you to correct deficiencies. So, if you want to visually increase the height of the room, you can simply choose wallpaper with vertical stripes or combine two types of wallpaper by sticking them with vertical stripes. If the room is too high, the horizontal division of the wall by combining wallpaper will make it more comfortable.
