Before repairs, they usually think about working with electrical wiring, solving two interrelated problems: how and where to hide the wires in the apartment and how many sockets you need ? The preparation of this plan depends on many reasons, but without an idea of ​​​​what, where and how the furniture will stand, it cannot be solved. Finland has very strict fire safety regulations, so at the request of friends who asked where we even have wires, if they are not visible in the photographs after the repair, showing the electrical work that we did at home, I must say that we did our best, so that, respecting the rules, our electrical wiring is laid in accordance with our personal ideas of comfort.

During the repair process, we partially replaced the electrical wiring, and hid the wires in special plinths for electrical wiring. And in this post I show all the wires and sockets in our apartment, and how they are hidden.

In the previous photo in the living room, a large flower covers the baseboard for electrical wiring and antennas and the socket, so we will move it and see how it's done.


Directly from the TV there is a single plinth, inside of which there is not only electrical wiring, but also an antenna, and from the outlet there is already a thinner plinth just for the antenna. The electric wire from the TV is plugged into an outlet with a regular plug.


We had to cut off a regular outlet from the extension cord and put in a smaller and flat one so that it would fit behind the TV, because we could not find a long cord for it. I already told about it, the distance from it to the wall is 2.5 cm.


The terrarium, because it stands sideways, could not be connected using a plinth, so the wire for it is ordinary white from an extension cord, but the plinth for the antenna ends and a piece of wire also sticks out, because we didn’t want to glue the plinth on the wallpaper, it’s ugly. And to do internal wiring in the wall is impossible according to local safety standards.


In the bedroom, I managed to twist the bottom around the mechanism so that they no longer roll on the floor, which I complained about in the post that they were too long.




There is a second outlet in the bedroom, which we do not use, but I did not remove it, because the curtain constantly closes it.


Inside the kitchen cabinet there is an outlet for the hood and with it light bulbs for light above the stove.


The main outlet in the kitchen above the desktop looks like this: for a kettle, coffee pot, tablet, and in general everything that needs to be charged.




I call an additional outlet in the kitchen a guest outlet, because friends and relatives visiting me plug computers into it and work in the kitchen. Also, a Christmas candlestick is stuck into it when it stands on the window on New Year's holidays. In the kitchen, my favorite flat sockets could not be installed either for safety reasons.


In the bathroom, the main socket is above the lamp, an electric toothbrush is connected to it, and it is also used for a hair dryer.


It would still be impossible to remove an additional outlet in the bathroom, and just in case, I left it: you never know, maybe when we buy a washing machine and a dryer.


From the switchboard in the hallway, a plinth stretches for the electrical wiring of the washing machine and oven.






It runs along the corner along the mirror and ends at the usual plinth. A hole was drilled from there and further it was laid behind the kitchen cabinet to the dishwasher and electric oven.

I don’t like modern sockets, because they are convex and collect dust, so I didn’t replace those flat ones that were in the apartment.


This is the only outlet in the office, and the computer wires, unfortunately, lie on the table, but I still can’t imagine how to hide them. Collect dust, but regularly during cleaning I wipe them as needed.
The conclusion that I made for myself in the process of organizing and planning repairs: the main thing is not the number of sockets in the apartment, but their thoughtful use for connecting the necessary household appliances, because electrical wires in the apartment collect dust and need to be hidden .

When a major overhaul begins in an apartment or house, the wiring is most often recessed into the walls. First, a wall chaser, a drill, a puncher make strobes in the wall, into which the cables are then hidden. Wiring in a wooden house must be placed in a protective corrugation - a shell that will cover them from adverse effects and prevent damage.

Communications remain open during cosmetic renovation of the home or when installing new sockets, switches. If desired, you can always correct the situation at no extra cost. There are several methods that allow you to hide the wires with your own hands.

On the walls

It happens that the wallpaper is already pasted, and you do not want to violate their integrity. There is an option to eliminate protruding cables without serious damage:

• carefully cut the wallpaper or bend it away from the wall close to the floor;
• take a convenient construction tool, make a neat shallow channel in the wall;
• lay the wires in the resulting hole;
• close the channel with a thin layer of plaster, putty;
• let the solution dry;
• glue the wallpaper in place.

If this method is not suitable, you can act without gating - use a decorative box for wires. Especially often it is necessary to close the power wires with boxes: they have a large diameter, so they cannot be drowned into the wall without re-repair. It is necessary to buy a cable channel that is suitable in color, width, length, which will serve as an additional element of decor and reliably protect the wiring.

In a wooden house, the box will help strengthen fire safety measures. This option is also ideal for the bathroom, because it is very difficult to lay wires under the tile. It is only important to remember that all lighting elements, electrical wiring, cable channel must be waterproof.

How else to hide the wiring on the walls beautifully? If desired, it can be covered with such trim elements:

• door platbands;
• various moldings, baguettes;
• window slopes.

It should be noted that only low-current wires (for example, for the Internet, telephone) can be covered with such materials, and high-voltage cables can only be hidden in accordance with fire safety standards.

On the floor

Wiring is often thrown across the floor, and here it is even easier to hide it than on the wall. During repairs, when laying the screed, you can stretch the cables in the corrugation, fill them with cement from above - the communications will be reliable and durable. If there is already a floor covering, it is easy to carefully remove it, punch the recesses with a perforator, then drown the wires in them and cement them. Under wooden floors, you will have to lay cables in a metal pipe, after removing the boards.

The stores offer a wide range of skirting boards for the floor with a hole for wires (with a cable channel). The central part of such a plinth is removed, cables are laid in a niche, after which the removable element returns to its place. Working with such skirting boards is convenient, fast, there is no dust, dirt, floor material does not deteriorate.

The procedure for laying wires under the most popular coating - laminate - is as follows:

• remove part of the lamellas under which the cable will pass, up to the construction logs (bars);
• place the cables in the corrugated pipe along or across the lag, if necessary, cutting out a space in the tree for crossing the wires;
• return the soundproofing gaskets and lamellas to their original place.

On the ceiling

You can also hide the wiring on the ceiling, while the method will depend on the type of coating. In homes and offices, stretch ceilings are often used, which take up extra space, but make it possible to wire the wires the way users need. There are practically no obstacles for cables, therefore it is possible to lead them along the shortest path. This has a number of advantages:

• cost reduction;
• reduction of work time;
• reduction of the total resistance of the circuit;
• strengthening fire safety;
• easy wiring replacement.

According to the rules of the fire department, it is necessary to close the wires, their bundles with corrugated pipes. Do the same with wiring under false ceilings, niches or complex plasterboard structures. It is best to link communications into a single highway, which will facilitate repairs in the future. If the ceiling is concrete, you will have to drill strobes in it and lay the wires in the same way as it is done on the walls. This method is very laborious and is rarely practiced.

outdoor camouflage

In the presence of artistic taste, many prefer not to hide, but to decorate the wires. From standard wiring it is quite possible to make a real art object, a picture, a panel with your own hands. Usually the cables are black, white, but if desired, you can find a material of a brighter shade.

Next, you should choose a drawing suitable for the style of the interior, make a sketch of it with a non-greasy simple pencil right on the wall. After that, you need to measure the length of the circuit with a thread in order to buy the missing amount of cable (part of it will only play a decorative role).

From the wires, you can lay out any wall drawing. Often the following are taken as a basis:

• branch with leaves, sitting birds;
• one or more trees;
• giant light bulb
• power station;
• road (in the nursery);
• decorative fence.

The wires are attached to the wall with special fasteners, which can then be decorated with any suitable material - fabric, special paper, designer decorations. Also, ugly protruding wires are hidden behind tall indoor plants, well-placed furniture, carpeting, door and window trims.

Hiding wires from TV and computer

Usually the TV is placed in plain sight, so a long wire from the equipment will also be visible to everyone. Most often, during the repair, they immediately determine the place for the TV, mounting the sockets behind it, and leading the wire out of the wall. It is recommended to carefully peel off the wallpaper, make a strobe for wiring, put it in the hole, drowning it in the corrugation. The wires are fastened with brackets.

There is almost always a mass of cables near the computer desk, because printers, modems, routers and other devices are connected to the system unit. To hide the "tangle", you can do the following:

• attach the wires to the inner surface of the table with self-tapping screws, reliable adhesive tape, staples of a construction stapler;
• beautifully arrange a shoe box, a plastic box, cut holes and release the wiring;
• sew a fabric cover, attach to the table top or to the back of the furniture from the inside;
• attach cables with clerical clips to furniture;
• hide the wiring in a single "hose" that will prevent confusion.

In order not to get confused when masking the wires and not to get into trouble during the repair, they must be marked in advance. This will help you immediately find the right cable later. It is better to separate low-power wiring from power wiring, without connecting it into a single bundle. Wires from the antenna, the Internet should be placed separately from others, so as not to spoil the signal quality.

Cables should have the shortest possible length and the minimum number of connections: this increases their safety, reduces the risk of injury. It happens that the braid of hidden cables is frayed at an unsuccessful location, so wiring in dangerous places should be checked more often. If you need to mask the wiring, you can use any ideas, especially since the range of tools and materials for decorating is now huge!

Installation of hidden electrical wiring is carried out even at the construction stage or at the very beginning of the repair, when there is only a rough finish in the room. This option is considered optimal, since it allows you to completely hide the wires from the eyes. However, the work requires effort for wall chasing and subsequent puttying. However, if there is a laying in the floor, then the scope of work is simplified. So, how to hide the wiring?

Stroke or not?

The average thickness of the plaster, in which any hidden wiring could be hidden, is 6-7 mm. In most cases, the standard finish will completely cope with camouflage. However, if it is planned that the thickness of the plaster layer will be only 3-4 mm, it would be more expedient to first plaster all the walls, then make channels of the desired size and cover them again after laying the wire.

An important point: before installation and immediately after it is completed, be sure to check the cable for integrity. For this, a probe lamp or a special indicator is used. Remember: repairing hidden electrical wiring in the event of an error will require much more effort than extra control over the process.

Before starting to lay strobes, it is required to draw in advance the lines along which they will pass, and subsequently hidden electrical wiring will be laid.

In order for the lines to be strictly vertical or horizontal, a level is used. They should not be made too high or low, so as not to interfere with the subsequent installation of the floor or false ceiling. Experts recommend making a margin of 15 cm. The places for future fastenings are also noted, the recommended step is from 20 to 40 cm.

At the second stage, holes are cut for the boxes (a puncher is more often used), and connecting strobes are made with a grinder or a special wall chaser. It remains to make hatches in the boxes, the conductors are put into place and fixed. Further, the same is done with the cable between them. Upon completion, all installation boxes and cables are masked with plaster, and at the end of the work, switches and sockets are installed.

Shtroblenie

If laying the cable during a rough finish is not possible or the thickness of the plaster layer is insufficient, it becomes necessary to gouge. This term is understood as making a rectangular groove for the subsequent laying of hidden wiring.

Strobs are made using a special tool for a wall chaser or with an ordinary grinder. The first one is not so popular because of its high cost and rarity (that is, it is unlikely that it will be possible to take it from a neighbor), however, it allows you to cope with the task as quickly as possible and with the least labor costs. In the absence of a tool, a chisel and a hammer are used. However, this option is fraught with possible chips and damage to the plaster.

The parameters of the strobe depend on which conductors and how many are planned to be used in hidden wiring.

The depth should be chosen to hide the wire in the furrow with a margin. Most often, the best option is 2, maximum 2.5 cm. The width is somewhat more complicated: it is necessary to ensure a distance of at least a few millimeters between the individual wires.

Before plastering the wall again, it is necessary to carefully clean the accumulated debris from the strobes, and also cover them with a primer. The junction boxes are the final work, so at first you should just leave the wires hanging. This is very important, since it is difficult to predict in advance at what depth the boxes will be installed.

Fasteners and installation

For brick and concrete walls, all experts recommend using a dowel-clamp or UW as a fastener. In common parlance, it is also often referred to as "uveshka". To work with 3x1.5 or 3x2.5 cords, you will need an attachment marked 5/10. To drill holes for fastening, a drill with a diameter of 6 mm is used. During installation, the dowel is wrapped around the cable and inserted into the hole, the antennae key in the system become a spacer, which is wedged in the strobe.

Separately, it should be noted cases when the cable needs to be rotated 90 degrees. This should be done carefully, ensuring a sufficient turning radius. The exact numbers can be found in the specifications of the cable being used.

Laying cables in pipes

For greater reliability, in some cases, hidden wiring is mounted in pipes made of PVC or corrugations. This method is not used so often and is in demand only in rooms where temperature or humidity changes often occur: baths, buildings without heating, and the like.

There is practically no difference between the installation of conventional hidden electrical wiring in an apartment and installation in pipes. The key difference is that in the case of pipes, there are relaxations to the requirements, for example, cables are allowed to overlap. However, the strobes for them will have to be done much more. Pipes are fastened in the same way in the case of a small diameter or with brackets if the diameter exceeds 4 cm.

Fast setting plaster can also be used as an alternative fastener approach. It will help increase the reliability and fire safety of the system, but it is much more difficult to work with it. True, if desired, it will also be much easier to remove the cable from the pipe if necessary.

Place of laying - floor, partition, ceiling

Separately, it should be noted options when hidden wiring is mounted in floors, ceilings or partitions. For example, if we are talking about a plasterboard suspended ceiling with a metal frame, then it will be much easier to hide the wiring, you don’t even need to ditch the walls - the conductors simply hide under the ceiling, and go down at the right points.

Also, junction boxes can be placed under drywall, but for them you will have to take care of embedding hatches opposite. Hatches are used to gain access to hidden wiring if necessary. Clamps or UW are used to fasten the lighting cables to the ceiling.

The best option: hidden electrical wiring is first hidden in pipes, and they are already mounted in the ceiling. Such a solution allows you to increase the fire safety of the plasterboard construction, installation is carried out with clips.

Installation of hidden electrical wiring under the floor covering is carried out in a similar way. The easiest way to install cables into the floor is if it is made of wood or gypsum fiber. In the case of a tree, holes are made in the logs, into which pipes are inserted, and a cable is laid along the nom. As an alternative, hidden wiring can also be arranged along the floor surface. First, the surface is leveled with expanded clay or a similar mixture, and a topcoat is applied on top.

Some equip hidden electrical wiring in the apartment, hiding the wires in pipes, and then pouring them with cement. This should not be done, especially if it is planned that the solution layer above the pipe will be small.

An important point: if you decide to hide the wiring under the floor or ceiling, connections can only be made in specially designed boxes. Only in this way, in case it fails, it will be possible to get to it relatively quickly.

Often, hidden wiring is installed behind drywall and in partitions.

As practice shows, often non-specialists make a common mistake, they forget about protective shells.

In an attempt to get by with minimal effort, holes are made in the metal profile itself. Also, do not run wires through drywall before sewing it on. In both cases, the risk of damage to the insulation is high. Pulling out the conductor for repair becomes very problematic. This problem is solved in an elementary way. Before you pull the conductors through the holes, you should first dress them in pipes.

Working with lighting is much easier. The voids in the slabs play a key role here. They remain from the stage of installation of the floor. This solution is also attractive because it does not require any chasing. However, this does not affect cable protection. It is enough to punch two holes: near the wall and at the location of the lamp. To pull the wire through the pipes, special probes made of hard wire are most often used.

It remains to note the case when the hidden wiring is mounted through the insulation in the walls. It is preferable to lay through mineral wool due to the individual characteristics of the material: it is light, excellently compressed and does not require any additional work. Many prefer foam, but it will have to cut additional channels for pipes.

Mounting box installation

There are some nuances here as well. It is worth starting with the fact that in rooms with concrete walls, it is recommended to use diamond-coated drill bits, since the more common models with a pobedit coating wear out quickly, and additional drills will have to be purchased. They can only be used in houses with finblock walls. Tellingly, when working with finblocks, it is forbidden to use diamond-coated crowns for the same reasons.

Before starting milling, a hole with a diameter equal to the drill is made in the center of the installation, due to which there will be much less difficulties during operation. Experts recommend choosing boxes with a diameter of 6-7 cm, this will be enough for 6 cores. If you plan to connect several outlets in a row, the place for them is leveled.

Wire quality

It is worth remembering that the reliability of hidden, and indeed any, wiring, not least depends on the quality of the wire. Today on the market you can find a considerable range of conductors. Their main parameters are as follows:

• the cross-sectional diameter of the core can be from 800 to 0.75 mm;
• core material (most often copper, aluminum or their alloy);
• the number of cores up to 37;
• wire sheath yarn, rubber, paper, plastic (more protected wires have two types of insulation at once).

For wiring at home, they use cables marked NUM and VVG, as well as wires ShVVP, PUNP and a number of others. It is worth briefly talking about the main features.

VVG is a cable without armor, the cores of which are copper, and the insulation is vinyl. There are several varieties on the market with additional markings: VVG NG is distinguished by increased fire safety, VVG Z has additional insulation, etc.

NUM - high-strength cable for organizing hidden wiring. Poorly suited for, as the outer shell has poor resistance to sunlight.

PVS - connecting wire for any type of work.

PBGPP and PBPP - wires for laying lighting lines. They differ in the presence of an additional flexible core.

ShVPP - copper wire of increased flexibility.

In general, making hidden wiring at home with your own hands is a difficult task, but quite accessible even to a non-specialist. The main thing here is to clearly observe the features of the technology and the nuances described above, and then high-quality wiring will be able to please for many years.

An extension cord with chargers constantly gets in the way on the table or under your feet, collects a lot of dust, and it looks unaesthetic. Dealing with this problem is very simple: take a nice box, make a few holes in it and hide all the wires and cables there.

There are also ready-made solutions, such as Plug Hub from Quirky. This is a box made of hard plastic with a rubberized bottom. There are three holes on the top for cables, and inside there are three fasteners, on which you can wrap extra long cords. Plug Hub can be placed on the floor or mounted on the wall.

2. Fix the wires under the tabletop

To fix the wires and extension cord under the table, you will need binders and screws (they must be at least a quarter less than the thickness of the tabletop in length, otherwise they will go through and the table will be damaged). First of all, fix the extension under the table top, preferably in the middle of the table or closer to the wall. Then fix the binders in the right places with screws. Connect everything you need to the extension cord and assemble the wires with clamps. Visually, the table has become much cleaner and neater.

There is a simpler option if you do not need to hide a large number of wires. This will require a construction stapler. To prevent the long wire from the lamp from dangling under your feet, carefully fasten it with paper clips at the table leg. A small extension can also be fixed with paper clips. For thicker wires, it is better to use special clamps (for example, these).

Do you like stapler staples? Regular zip ties will do. Secure the cable to the table leg with cable ties. The wires that run along the floor can be covered with plastic or a plank to match the color of the floor. The extension can be fastened under the tabletop using a wide Velcro: fix it with screws on the back of the tabletop, and then attach the extension. To keep the wires from dangling under the table, run them through cable ducts - these can be purchased at any hardware store. You can fix the channels themselves with electrical tape or a regular plaster.

3. Organize cable storage

Getting rid of the confusion in the wires will help their proper organization. To get started, collect cords from phones, a player, a game console, and tablets around the house. Then take the boxes (preferably prettier), place cardboard separators inside them, sign the place for each cable (so as not to get confused later) and lay everything out neatly. To avoid tangling the wires themselves, use ordinary ties.

If you don't feel like messing around with boxes, buy a basket and stock up on toilet paper rolls.

If the wires do not bother you, you can simply attach a label to each to make it easier to distinguish between them. For example, like this:

4. Keep all the necessary wires close at hand

Not all cables we can hide in a box: we need some of them almost constantly. The solution is simple: mount them on the edge of your desktop so that you can reach out and connect the device to the right wire if necessary. Sugru will help us with this - plasticine-rubber and one of the most indispensable things in the household. Don't believe? Then look.

Roll the Sugru into small balls and place on a table support. Then, with a clerical knife, remove some plasticine (carefully, try not to deform the balls much). Life hack: to prevent plasticine from sticking to the blade, pre-rinse it with soapy water. Then adjust the shape a little with a sushi stick or a toothpick to get neat hollows (they should be slightly wider than your wires). Everything is ready, you can fix the cables.

There is an option for those who know how to work with wood. A small block with holes will help organize all the wires on the desktop.

The simplest solution is to pass the wires through the binders attached to the tabletop.

5. Don't hide wires

Seriously, if you get creative, cables can be an interesting piece of decor.

It is important to understand that a TV is not only a screen. A huge number of different devices are connected to the TV device: speakers, subwoofer, laptop, receiver, etc. Add to this the power cord and antenna cable. It is not surprising that all users have a question, how to hide the wires from the TV on the wall, in the floor or decorate them?

Now let's look at 5 main ways to mask all the cords. Let's determine where it is better to hide the wires. Here are real examples with photographs that confirm that it is really possible to hide all communications.

into the wall

Hiding the cables is not difficult. Especially considering the fact that the disguise of various communications is a real trend in the world of interior design. Very often you have to pull the antenna cable through the entire apartment. This breaks the aesthetic picture. Therefore, new ideas on how to hide the wires from the TV will come in handy more than ever.

Remember that the antenna cable is not the only wire that connects to the TV device. Keep in mind that you also need to mask the power cord. Many owners of modern technology connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN connector. Add to this the HDMI cable used to connect additional devices.

To solve this problem, use floor skirting boards with cable channels. They allow you to hide the wires. What to do if the TV hangs on the wall? You will have to pull the cables out of the plinth to bring them to the TV. It is clear that such a solution can hardly be called optimal. Therefore, it is wiser to hide communications in the wall.

What is the easiest way out of this situation? Bundle the wires using nylon ties. Try to somehow disguise the cords. It is absolutely impossible to call this method ideal, but it has the right to life.

A fundamental, but very time-consuming solution is laying wires in strobes. You need to make special holes during the repair. Do not forget to equip the outlet for the TV on the wall. This is the most accurate and technological way. None of the guests will accidentally touch the wires. Also, the cords will be out of the reach of pets. All wires are displayed in a single console, which contains the necessary connectors.

To route wires along the strobes, it is not at all necessary to hammer the entire wall. Pull them up to the baseboard, and then hide them in it. The main disadvantage of this method is that it is suitable only for those owners of TV equipment who carry out repairs in their house or apartment.

How to hide wires in the wall under the TV if you have just finished finishing? The best solution is to decorate the cords, but we'll talk about this a little later. Now let's analyze how to hide communications for the TV on the wall.

To begin with, carefully consider where exactly the TV will be located. Mark the location of the device on the wall. The second stage is the choice of the bracket. This aspect is of great importance. Despite the global VESA standard, which includes the most popular mounting points, the brackets themselves come in different shapes and sizes.

Think carefully about which type of bracket is best to choose. If the mount is too massive, it will interfere with switching. An incorrectly selected bracket size will cause the wires to fall out from behind the TV screen.

To make accurate measurements, you must first buy a TV. When the device is in your home, measure the dimensions, and then buy a special bracket. Try on the mount to the TV, measure the distance left to the edges - at this distance you need to make sockets.

The measurements taken must be transferred to the wall, and then you can get to work. Using a grinder, 2 vertical stripes are cut in the wall. Their depth should be literally a few centimeters. The distance between the stripes is no more than three centimeters.

Using a perforator, the inside is hollowed out. This allows you to create full-fledged strobes. Make several holes using diamond core bits. They will have outlets. All the necessary outputs should be located here: power supply, cable for the antenna. Consider how many power outlets you will need. It depends on the amount of equipment connected to the TV.

This completes the hardest part. Lay all the cords in the strobes made. Previously, all wires are fastened with plastic brackets. If this is not done, then they will constantly fall out, interfering with the subsequent wall decoration.

The ends of the wires must be connected according to the appropriate scheme with a socket. Then it must be installed in a specially designated place. Strobes should be sealed with gypsum plaster. The last stage is finishing. Install the bracket and also fix the TV on it. Connect all wires to TV.

To the floor

The second way is to hide the cords under the floor. Today, in hardware stores, you can easily buy special skirting boards equipped with a niche for cable masking. You just need to remove the outer panel, and then remove the wires into this space. Then put the panel back.

The main advantage of this option is efficiency, cleanliness, simplicity. Work takes a minimum of free time. To close the cords under the plinth, you do not have to gouge anything. No dirt, etc. Antenna and Internet cables can be placed under the plinth. With their help, other communications are also masked.
