Conventional boilers have a combustion chamber in which heat-resistant steel grates are installed. Fuel is placed on top of them. It burns, ashes and ashes fall into the lower compartment of the boiler. Before each kindling, the ash pan must be cleaned.

A container is located next to the combustion chamber, where water is heated for the water circuit of the heating system. Cooled water enters the lower part of the tank, which gradually rises, warming up.

Pyrolysis units

Important. Factory-made pyrolysis boilers are able to operate continuously (without additional fuel loading) for about a day. Home-made more than 10-15 hours will not pull.

Pyrolysis boilers require forced air supply. With a power of up to 15 kW, a fan is mounted on the lower door. It is impossible to load fuel during the operation of the unit.

How are heating elements assembled?

How to weld a heating boiler with your own hands based on a heating element with which you can heat a country house? You will need the following details:

  • A heating element that will heat water (with a capacity of 1 - 1.5 kW);
  • large diameter pipe;
  • flange for fixing the heating element;
  • flange fasteners;
  • two pieces of water pipe.

At the bottom of the steel pipe, which acts as a boiler, a heating element is mounted in a flanged manner. An expansion tank is built at the top, in which there should be a hole for filling water.


The boiler is connected using segments of water pipes with batteries (supply and return). After the system is filled with water, heating can be turned on.

  3. The third stage is the passage of hot gases through the heat exchanger.
  4. Removal of the products of combustion that gave the "lion's share" of thermal energy.

A home-made solid fuel boiler must be equipped with controls and automation that make it possible to simplify and secure its maintenance as much as possible. You can control the operation of the unit by changing the position of the blower door (ash pan) and the chimney damper. Preparation of materials and tools

Material selection

If you know the art of welding and the possibility of plasma cutting, then to create a wood-burning boiler you need to use sheet metal, 3-5 mm thick. Boiler blanks are cut out of metal, which are welded according to the scheme.

The simplest version of the body is a piece of thick-walled steel pipe, 4-6 mm thick; length 800 - 1000 mm; with a diameter of 300 mm. Grids and supports can be made from reinforcement, rolled metal or channel. You will also need metal to create the bottom of the boiler (thickness 50 mm), cover (thickness 3-5 mm), air distributor (thickness 10 mm), hinges and valves. In addition, it is necessary to stock up on a metal pipe with a diameter of 60 mm. The height of the pipe must be 50 mm greater than the height of the body. The chimney will require a steel pipe with a diameter of 100 mm.

To assemble the simplest wood-burning boiler, you will need a tool, namely:

  • Welding machine.
  • Powerful angle grinder ("Bulgarian").
  • Drill and drill bits for metal.

The assembly process can be divided into several stages:

  1. From metal 50 mm, a circle should be cut corresponding to the diameter of the case. After welding, it will be the bottom of the wood-burning boiler.
  2. A circle should be cut out of metal, which has a diameter 20 mm smaller than the body. After that, in the middle of the circle it is necessary to drill a hole with a diameter of 20 mm. A section of the air distribution pipe (d 60mm) should be welded to the hole. On the opposite side of the circle, impeller-shaped plates are welded.
  3. A circle is cut out of sheet metal, 3-5 mm thick, which will serve as the top cover of the boiler. In the middle of the circle, a hole should be made in which the air distribution pipe (d 60 mm) will move freely.
  4. A chimney is welded to the top of the body.

Important! For proper smoke removal, it is necessary that a 50 cm long section of the chimney pipe is strictly horizontal from the boiler.

Fuel is loaded into such a boiler through the top cover. It is necessary to load the space of the fuel chamber as tightly as possible so that there are no gaps. Ignition is done through the top. As soon as the fuel flares up, you should install the air distributor and the top cover in their original places. As it burns out, the air distributor disc will lower, building up pressure in the lower chamber. Due to this, the amount of oxygen in the fuel chamber will be reduced, the combustion process will turn into a slow smoldering. The whole structure of this wood-fired boiler is as follows

Tip: this scheme of a home-made boiler installation requires a chimney. If there is no possibility of arranging a smoke exhaust duct, and there is a need for a heating device, then you can create the simplest induction heating boiler with your own hands if you have a welding inverter at hand.

From a copper wire with a cross section of 2 mm, a winding of 50 -100 turns should be made, the core of which will be a steel pipe. Under the influence of magnetic induction, the pipe section (core) will be heated along which the coolant will move.

Principles of independent design

The design of a boiler can be conditionally divided into four parts: theoretical calculations, drawing up a diagram of a future boiler (or correcting an existing circuit), acquiring the necessary components and directly assembling and setting up.


The key point in self-design is the calculation of the parameters of the future boiler.
According to well-known formulas, the volume of heated space in cubic meters is calculated. The next step is to calculate the output power of the boiler, regardless of the type of fuel. When calculating the power, it is necessary to use a correction factor that takes into account the thermal insulation of the room.

Knowing the required power, it is possible to determine the type of fuel and, accordingly, the design of the boiler.
