Types, principles of operation and purposes of indicating contact thermometers

A thermometer (from the Greek thermo... and... meter) is a device for measuring temperature through contact with the medium being studied (measured).

Thermometers (hereinafter referred to as T.), which have received various applications everywhere, exist:
household thermometers (room, for air and water, medical, etc.);
technical thermometers for monitoring technological processes;
There is also a whole class of high-precision thermometers for research (laboratory) and metrological work, and others.

The action of T. is based on such physical properties, as thermal expansion of liquids, gases and solids(bimetallic thermometers); on the temperature dependence of gas pressure or saturated vapors(manometric thermometers), electrical resistance, thermoelectromotive force (thermo-EMF), magnetic susceptibility of a paramagnetic material and other physical phenomena.
