How and where to build a toilet in the country

The best rest from the polluted city air, of course, is in the country. However, some amenities are indispensable in rural areas.

The need for a toilet makes you think about the choice of type and location for such a building.

Toilet in the country, how to choose a place to build

Before building a country toilet with your own hands, you should decide on its location. There are many factors to consider here:

  • From the toilet to the house and the basement, the distance is at least 12 m.
  • To a summer shower or bath - at least 8 m.
  • In the presence of an aviary or barn for animals, the distance is at least 4 m.

  • From trees - 4 m, from bushes - 1 m.
  • From the fence of your site to the toilet at least 1 m.
  • Consider the wind rose when building a toilet so as not to suffer from an unpleasant odor.
  • The door of the building should not open in the direction of the neighboring plot.
  • In the case of groundwater flowing below 2.5 m, any type of toilet can be built. If it is higher than 2.5 m, then a country toilet without a cesspool is categorically contraindicated: sewage can get into the waters and not only pollute them, but also bring infections.
  • The toilet from any source of drinking water must be at least 25 m away. If your land plot is located on a slope, then the toilet must be built below the source.

Important! It is advisable to take into account not only your own source of water, but also the neighbor's.

Types of country toilets, what to choose

As already mentioned, the location of groundwater affects the choice of a place for the construction of a toilet. If the option with a cesspool does not suit you, then before building a country toilet, consider several more types of buildings.

Did you know? The first toilets were discovered by archaeologists in ancient Babylonian and Assyrian cities. Sewer outlets made of red stone, finished with bitumen on top, were found. Naturally, these were the toilets of wealthy residents, while commoners used more primitive latrines.

    Pit toilet

This design is a pit up to 2 m deep, above which there is a toilet.

Waste products accumulate over time and must be disposed of.

Previously, this problem was solved simply: the house was rented, moved, and the pit was dug in.

To date, you can use the services of a sewer machine.

    play closet

These toilets are usually located inside the house near the outer wall, and the pit is located at a slope, sewage enters it through a pipe. Such a toilet is cleaned using a cesspool machine. Convenient because in cold weather or in the rain you do not need to go anywhere.

    Powder closet

This is a convenient option for a site with a close location of a water source. There is no pit in it, some kind of container (for example, a bucket) is placed instead, after filling the contents are poured into the compost pit. After each visit to the powder closet, the contents of the bucket are powdered with dry peat - this removes the unpleasant odor and explains the name of the structure.

    dry closet

The most convenient option for a toilet is that you can buy a structure of any size, and you don’t need to build anything. This is a booth with a waste container filled with active microorganisms for their processing.

    chemical toilet

Almost the same as a dry closet. The difference is in the filler of the container: chemical reagents are used here, so the contents of the container cannot be used as fertilizer.

Did you know?In ancient Rome, public toilets were popular. It is interesting that the division in them was not by gender, but by class. In the toilets for wealthy citizens, the stoves were heated by slaves so that the nobility did not freeze the causal places. The catchphrase "money does not smell" has come from the time when, by decree of Emperor Vespassian, toilets became paid.

Scheme and drawings of the toilet

It is not difficult to build a toilet in the country with your own hands, the main thing is to draw up drawings and determine the dimensions. All components must be combined with each other. Determine the size of the booth, taking into account the height and build of users, so that it is convenient.

Toilet wooden country in a section, drawing.

Today, the market is saturated with various materials from which you can make a country toilet with your own hands according to your drawings. If we consider that wood is an environmentally friendly material, it breathes, it smells of freshness, then it is more comfortable to be in a wooden building.

The only thing to consider during construction is the impregnation of all parts from moisture and insects.

We dig the foundation, how to equip a cesspool

A heavy foundation for a country toilet is not required. For a wooden house, you can make a foundation in two ways: supports in the form of pillars dug into the ground; brickwork or concrete blocks around the perimeter.

A toilet with a cesspool should be located close to the entrance of the sewer truck. The depth of the pit can be up to 2 m. To make it airtight, it can be lined with bricks and smeared with clay or mortar. Consider how to make a country toilet with your own hands with a foundation based on poles:

Important! Follow the observance of the corners - the whole structure depends on this.

How to make a toilet frame

We will understand the construction of a country toilet with our own hands step by step, starting from the basics. The body of the toilet can be made of timber, determine the dimensions based on the size and severity of the building. You can also use a metal corner. The body has the following components:

Calculate the height of the toilet seat to make it comfortable, measure from it about 40 cm up and the screed at the top up to 25 cm.

    Wall cladding and roof installation

To sheathe the frame with wood, it is necessary to mark the places of the cut under the roof (at an angle). The boards are arranged vertically, tightly to each other. The thickness of the board is 2-2.5 cm.

If you do not want to simplify the work, use sheets of corrugated board or slate, but keep in mind that the structure of these materials will not be well ventilated. In any case, do not forget to make a door at the back through which you can get a container of waste. Attach it to the loops.

A hole must be made in the roof for natural ventilation. If the roof is wooden, cover it with roofing material, seal the ventilation window.
