Stages of painting on glass with paints

Transforming glass into a magical picture is carried out in several stages:

The surface is degreased using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Some craftsmen limit themselves only to wet baby wipes, but in this case the paint may peel off after a while.
The outline is drawn. Be careful not to smear the already applied design. The contour takes at least 2 hours to dry, so after applying the contour you need to leave the work to dry. Errors can be corrected with cotton wool soaked in alcohol or a regular damp cloth. It is customary to start work in dot painting from the center, and not from the contours of the drawing - in this case, the work will be more accurate, and it will be possible to make changes to the drawing as necessary.

To decorate the most ordinary objects, for example, vases, dishes or simple bottles, you can make drawings on glass. Every person can do this, since even an absolute inability to draw will not prevent the creation of small masterpieces.

How to draw on glass - preparing the surface

First you need to prepare the surface on which the drawing will be applied. If this is a bottle, then you need to carefully remove all labels from it. Then the item to be prepared must be washed in warm water and soapy water and dried thoroughly.

If you have the ability to draw, of course, you can apply a drawing on glass yourself. Or you can resort to a trick: for this you will need a suitable drawing, copy paper (preferably lilac, black, as a rule, does not print well) and a pencil or toothpicks. The carbon copy is applied to the surface and secured with tape for convenience. The design is placed on top and pressed with a pencil (toothpick) throughout the office. After this, everything unnecessary is removed and a printed design remains on the glass.

To prevent the colors from bleeding later, the resulting lines are outlined with contour paint, not forgetting to close the lines tightly. It can be anything - black, golden, or the same color as the future design. When applying the contour, the tube should not come into contact with the glass, but should be held at a slight angle. If the strip of contour paint lies slightly unevenly, it can be easily corrected with a cotton swab.

If the design is made on a transparent glass or vase, you need to place a white paper napkin inside - this will simplify the application of the design.

If you plan to paint on a flat glass, then in this case the situation is even simpler. The paper with the prepared design is placed on the table, and glass is placed on top. After this, you can trace the outline with a glass pencil or, if you have some skills, immediately do it with an outline. After the contour paint has dried, you need to remove traces of carbon paper from the glass - do this with regular alcohol. They also need to wipe the entire surface of the glass to degrease and prepare it for applying paint.

How to draw on glass

Most often used to create drawings stained glass paints. They differ from ordinary ones in that after drying they do not become completely opaque, while maintaining their color. To apply paint you will need several brushes of different sizes with natural bristles. The smaller the fragment being painted, the thinner the brush should be.

A few drops of paint are applied to the center of the desired fragment using a brush (if the element is small, only one drop is needed) and distributed towards the outline. The layer should be uniform and thick enough. Unevenness should be immediately eliminated using a cotton swab, and air bubbles should be pierced with a toothpick. All fragments of the same color are painted at one time, after which the brushes are washed and dried. Then you can move on to the next shade of paint. After painting, the glass should be left until completely dry - that is, for about a day. The resulting stained glass window can be secured with a special varnish. You can also paint on glass with acrylic paints - in this case the drawing will turn out opaque and matte. In this case, it is not necessary to make an outline, since this paint is thicker, but you need to draw each subsequent fragment only after the previous one has dried. You can lighten the shade slightly by adding a little special solvent to the paint tube. The acrylic-based composition is not washed off with water, so there is no need to fix it with anything.

In addition, a matte pattern can also be applied to the glass - this is done with a colored or colorless composition for. You need to work with this composition carefully, as it is very caustic.

How else can you make drawings on glass?

You can also make a drawing on glass using the technique decoupage. To do this, special decoupage glue is applied to the glass, on which a top layer of paper napkin with a pattern is placed. Well, while working on the article, I discovered many interesting points that I did not know before. I hope they will be useful to me in the near future! In the meantime, I want to demonstrate how to easily transform a wine bottle into a cute vase using acrylic paints. I want to warn you right away: I don’t particularly know how to draw (or rather, I haven’t developed this skill much yet), so don’t expect anything original here. Decoupage is my strong point, because you don’t have to draw from scratch, but paint on it. But that's another story.

Taking the path of least resistance, I chose a glass wine bottle that already had raised flowers on it. Or rather, I chose wine for my birthday, in addition to taking a closer look at the successful packaging.

For the work I needed: a bottle, acrylic paints (I don’t have special stained glass paints yet, I only have “sticks”, but they wouldn’t quite fit here, so I made do with ordinary acrylic art paints), an outline for glass and ceramics, brushes, liquid for nail polish remover with cotton pads, toothpicks, cotton swabs, palette, glitter and water-based acrylic varnish. First I took some sandpaper in case the labels were difficult to come off, but I didn't need it.

I soaked my vessel in hot water, adding liquid cleaning agent to it for good measure.

Having forgotten about the bottle for an hour and a half, I easily cleared it of all the labels. Then I degreased it with nail polish remover.

I started working with the contour. As I described above, it is first useful to try to guide them along a piece of paper. I outlined some of my flowers. I only have a silver one in my arsenal, so you need to look closely to see it in the photo.

If my hand trembled somewhere, I corrected it with the help of cotton swabs and toothpicks. After waiting until the outline was dry, I started painting.

After mixing the paints, I painted the flowers in cheerful shades.

Now the most important thing: you need to go for a walk with the dog. Kidding. In general, you wait until the paints are completely dry. At that time I went into the forest to walk the dog. When I returned, the simple drawings could already be varnished. During this, I also made some flowers with glitter: I sprinkled a little glitter, added a drop of varnish, and it turned out to be several transparent shiny flowers.

Actually, that's all! The vase for one flower is ready.

I admit, for me it will perform a slightly different role. In company with other bottles of interesting shapes, she will playfully train the breathing of the children who come to visit me. When we blow into one bottle we hear one sound, when we blow into another the sound changes, etc. Both interesting and useful!
