Drawing of a bunk crib. Detailed instructions on how to make a bunk bed. Do-it-yourself bunk bed for giving - video

Today, people quite often make furniture with their own hands. If there are two children in the family, then in order to save space in the children's room, you can make or purchase a children's bunk bed.

A bunk bed for children can be designed in the form of a pirate ship. To do this, you can add elements such as a strong rope, slide and steering wheel.

DIY bunk bed: manufacturing technology

If you plan to purchase a high-quality bunk bed for children, then you should know that it is quite expensive. Budget designs are not always of high quality. The two-story structure must be able to support both children and parents. The stability of the product is also important.

In some cases, three-tier beds are also made, but builders do not recommend doing this.

Necessary materials

A bunk bed, decorated in the same style as other furniture elements, perfectly complements the interior.

To independently make a crib for children, which will have two floors, you need the following tools:

  1. Pliers.
  2. A hammer.
  3. Screwdriver.
  4. Electric drill or screwdriver.
  5. Building level.
  6. Roulette.
  7. Square.
  8. Hacksaw.
  9. Clamps.
  10. Electric jigsaw.

In order for the bed to fit perfectly into the interior of the children's room, you will need to think in advance about where it is best to place it. You will need to take into account the size of the beds, so that it is possible to understand how much material will need to be purchased. For work you will need the following materials:

  1. Wooden bars 2.5 m long - 4 pcs.
  2. Bars made of wood 3 m long - 4 pcs.
  3. Three-meter boards - 4 pcs.
  4. 2 plywood sheets, chipboard or slats 12 mm thick.
  5. Screws 75 mm long.
  6. Screws with a diameter of 6 mm, which have a hexagonal head - 8 pcs.
  7. Bolts with a diameter of 6 mm and a length of 75 mm - 10 pcs.
  8. Nuts and washers.
  9. Putty, which is intended for working with wood.
  10. Self-tapping screws.
  11. Bolts 150 mm long - 2 pcs.
  12. Polyurethane.
  13. sanding paper.

Wood can be replaced with laminated chipboard. If you still plan to use boards, then before doing all the work, they will need to be kept in the room for about 1 week so that the temperature and humidity are approximately the same as in the room where the structure will be made. This will need to be done so that the material does not warp.

Do-it-yourself assembly of the crib must be done carefully, because the design will be an important component of the children's room.

Work order

The bunk bed, decorated in a classic style, is in good harmony with the interior.

The manufacturing process is as follows:

  1. First of all, you will need to determine on the supporting structure of the bed the location of the fixing points for wooden boxes that are intended for mattresses.
  2. It is necessary to make a hole on both sides of the longitudinal bars for each of the screws.
  3. Next, the lower longitudinal beam is pressed against the first wall, after which it is fastened with a screw. Do the same with the second wall.
  4. In the same way, the upper longitudinal bars are installed, which are intended for mattresses. At this stage, the supporting structure of the baby bed will be made.
  5. It is necessary to fix the cross bars under the children's bed. This should be done with both the lower and the upper tier. They must be firmly fixed with screws to the bars at a distance of 30 cm from each other.
  6. Next, the frame of the box is sheathed with boards in the side part. For sheathing it is recommended to use screws with invisible heads.
  7. Next, the sides-shields are attached, which can prevent the accidental fall of children who will sleep.
  8. The stairs to the upper tier are rigidly fixed with screws.

Nuances to take into account

Scheme of a bunk bed with a built-in table and shelves.

Be sure to be sure what dimensions should have a place to sleep and on which side it is best to install a vertical ladder. The size of the baby bed should be approximately 8 cm longer than the sleeping area and 10 cm wide. The ladder will increase the size of the bed by approximately 4.5 cm.

In order to determine the appropriate height of the bed, it is necessary to take into account the height of the ceiling in the room. The distance between the lower and upper floors should also be taken into account. You will need to leave such an amount of space that it is possible for the mother to sit down with the child if necessary.

For stairs and racks, you need bars and a board made of solid wood. The panels at the ends are the same for the entire structure, this moment will simplify their preparation. The side panels are the same width as the end panels. If you connect them differently to each other, then you can make an original design.

Based on the size of the mattresses that will need to be placed on the bed, then it is necessary to increase the size of the structure by 2 cm on each side. This is necessary so that it is possible to easily fill the linen for the bed. The most important guideline in this work is the convenience of the bed, which is made.

The lower position of the first tier can be determined if we take the height that the child can easily overcome as the basis for calculations. In most cases, the height is 35 cm for a child under the age of 3 years. The frame for placing the mattress should be lower by its thickness. For the second tier, the upper position must be set so that an adult child who sleeps upstairs can sit down on the first floor at any time without touching the upper floor with his head.

How to make a strong frame?

bunk bed drawing

A children's bunk bed should be reliable, while the aesthetic side is secondary. The bars must be firmly connected with screws. The result is 2 frames that are almost the same size. Aesthetically, they are able to complement each other well.

To one of the sides and the end, you will need to fix the board with screws, the importance of this fastener should be taken into account. Self-tapping screws are recommended to be screwed in from the inside, you will need to make sure that they do not pass through the board. For screws of small length, large holes can be drilled. To do this, it is recommended to use a depth gauge on an electric drill.

The side is installed on another frame. Holes for fasteners are recommended to be hidden with putty. After it dries, the putty should be treated with sanding paper. The length of the leg must match the height of the fence. Make sure that the leg can withstand the load that will fall on it.

In the leg, you will need to make a hole at the attachment point of the upper tier. The same hole is made in the frame with the board. In the leg, it will be necessary to make recesses that will help to easily hide the hex screw head and washer. The hole must be made of such a depth that the screw, having passed through the side and the leg, can be securely fixed in the bar.

A children's bunk bed has one advantage: a small box can be placed under the first tier, in which you can store a bed or a small amount of necessary things. For example, a child can place his toys in such a box. The front panel of the drawer should not be made as long as that of the crib. The height should match the ground floor panel, which can complement the design of the children's room.

Bed installation technology

The lower tier of the bed can be equipped for a child to play by equipping the structure with additional elements.

The base of a bunk crib should be made of wood. The high-quality preparation of this material requires some effort: you will need to level it with a planer, sand it with sandpaper, and at the end you will need to varnish the product so that it can extend its service life.

If the walls are made of drywall, then determining the location of the racks is quite simple. It is very important to make holes in the right places. For this purpose, it is recommended to find an assistant who can support the frame at the bottom, pressing it firmly against the wall.

Guide holes will need to be made by drilling the rack profile, drywall sheet and frame bar. It is necessary to prepare places for screwing in screws that have hex heads. For this operation, a large drill should be used. The screws will need to be screwed in so that they connect all the elements and are fixed in the racks. In the same way, you need to install the first tier, that is, a frame with a side.

Particular attention must be paid to the installation of the fence, because it can create some guarantees for the safety of children. The fence can be made of strong boards, which will be fixed on racks placed in a vertical position. In this case, the screws are screwed in from the inside. It should be borne in mind that there should be a hole in the fence for the stairs that lead to the upper tier.

A vertical staircase is made quite simply, it will take up less space when compared with a staircase that is located at an angle. First of all, two beams are fixed, which can guide the movement of children in the process of ascent or descent. The steps must be securely fixed with bolts that are 6 mm long. Long bolts are used to secure the top step and at the same time fix the ladder to the bed.

Time passes, children grow up, beds become too small for them. It's time to think about sleeping places with full dimensions, because children will very soon turn into lanky teenagers. Putting two large beds is not an option, they will take up almost the entire space of the children's room. However, there is always a way out. For those who know how to hold a hammer and a screwdriver in their hands, we offer detailed instructions on how to make a bunk bed on your own.

General view of the bunk bed

Preparatory stage

First, we select the mattresses of the desired dimensions. Their standard sizes are 180x70 cm. The mattress should be comfortable, best of all orthopedic, spring. But if you wish, you can make it yourself. You will need foam rubber and a dense fabric for the cover (teak, calico). It is better to take two layers of foam rubber, the first 10 cm thick, the second 15 cm. The density coefficient of the lower layer should not exceed 35 kg / m3 so that the mattress is softer.

We will make a do-it-yourself bunk bed simple and comfortable. The product will consist of the following parts:

  • four racks,
  • Two shelves with edging and railings,
  • Vertical ladder.

Now you need to decide where to put the bed. At the same time, keep in mind that the width of the bed will be 5 cm more when adding a ladder. So, the estimated dimensions of the finished product will be:

  • Length - 1904 mm,
  • Width - 744 mm,
  • The total height of the bed is 1800 mm,
  • Height to the lower tier - 200 mm,
  • Height from the floor to the second tier - 1220 mm. Before you make a bunk bed, check in practice whether you can get up without hitting the second tier with your head.

We carry out a drawing with full detailing and indication of dimensions. Now you can go to the construction base for lumber.

Tools and materials

To make a do-it-yourself bunk bed, we need light and durable softwood. The board and timber should be even and well dried. If it is possible to cut the material at home, then it is better to do so. Otherwise, wood cutting can be ordered at the base. Here are the dimensions of the required parts:

Material Dimensions, mm Qty

For work, we need the following tools:

  • Hacksaw, simple or electric.
  • Drill with bits.
  • Electroplaner.
  • Clamps.
  • Chisel, screwdriver.
  • A hammer.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Level, tape measure, ruler, pencil.
  • Lots of sandpaper.

Part preparation

Racks

The bed post consists of two boards fastened with four screws at a right angle. To do this, we tighten both boards with a clamp. We drill the marked holes with a drill, screw in the screws, remove the clamp. In the same way, we prepare three more racks, and those that go to the head should be longer. Thinking about how to make your own bunk bed with modern shapes, we round off the top of the racks. To do this, we cut them along the radius with an electric jigsaw, remove the chamfer from the corners of the radius, and grind the surface with sandpaper.

bed shelves

We cut them out of 8 mm plywood. To make the material less deformed, we make two blanks for each bed. One sheet should have dimensions of 124x70 cm, the other - 62x70 cm, so that their joint falls on the transverse beam.

Stairs

For the crossbars, you can take 3 ready-made gymnastic sticks and cut each into 2 parts of 50 cm each. We make the racks of the stairs from a beam of 70x40 mm. The top of the uprights is rounded in the same way as the uprights of the bed.

Beam for installing shelves

We cut the timber to install the lower shelf:

  • Longitudinal parts 1860x50x40 mm - 6 pcs. (3 per shelf)
  • Cross parts 700x50x40 mm - 8 pcs. (4 beams per shelf).

Boards for edging and fencing are sawn after the fact, when the base of the bed is assembled. In the manufacture of bunk beds, it is not always possible to follow the exact dimensions, so it is better to fit the decorative details to the finished frame.

Bed assembly

Step 1. Assemble the frame of the bed shelves. To do this, we select nests in the bar, about half the thickness of the tree, to connect the longitudinal and transverse bars. We assemble the frame and check its perpendicularity. We fasten plywood shields to the frame, smearing them with carpentry glue. We strengthen the connection with screws with a pitch of 200 mm. Finished shelves should be dried, then the front surface should be sanded.

Step 2. We collect the stairs. We mark the racks and drill holes for the crossbars using a feather drill. Hole diameter 30 mm, depth 15 mm. We insert halves of gymnastic sticks into the holes and fix them with screws. You can pre-lubricate the walls of the recesses with wood glue.

Stairs

Step 3. Connecting the bedposts to the shelves. How to make a bunk bed with sturdy sunbeds? Safety first. Our solution is simple and reliable. First, mark the height of the fastening of both shelves. This is done from the inside of the racks at the level of the lower surfaces of the frame of the shelves. We tighten the shelves with racks with clamps, check the perpendicularity and make marks for fasteners. We drill holes for the screws in both rack boards. We fix the shelves by tightening the screws.

Fastening shelves with racks

Step 4. Hanging a decorative edging. We measure the distance between the uprights, saw off and adjust the longitudinal and transverse edging boards. We install them 5 cm below the frames to hide the bar structure. We fasten the edging to the shelves with screws.

Fastening edging to shelves

Step 5. Installing the stairs. The left leg of the ladder is attached to the bed post with three screws. The right post is screwed to the upper edging with two screws, to the lower edging - with one. The screws are screwed in from the inside of the bed.

Fastening stairs and edging

Step 6. Installing the fence. A do-it-yourself bunk bed should be not only durable, but also aesthetic. Therefore, we will make a beautiful fence. We cut longitudinal and transverse boards with dimensions of 70x22 mm into the bed posts, having previously selected nests in the wood with a chisel. No railing is required on the bottom bunk of the front side of the bed. We fix the rails with screws, screwing them to the racks. We sew the openings between the edging and the fence with a beautiful fabric. The assembled product can be painted or varnished.

Step 7. Installing the bed. To make the bed stable, it should be attached to the wall with brackets.

Bed setting

Having finished the work, we will free up a lot of space in our living space. Made to exacting measurements, this neatly assembled bunk bed will be a real gem in your bedroom.

A bunk bed differs little from a regular one: a frame, but of great height, and two bottoms instead of one. Making it yourself is almost as easy as putting it together. The only difference is the need to independently determine the dimensions of the structure and purchase materials.

How to make a bunk bed for children with your own hands? Judging by the range of products in the store, then wood-fiber material - MDF, fiberboard, OSB is also quite suitable for a children's bed. But, firstly, it is not necessary to use any fiberboard, but only the one in whose passport a low emission class is indicated. And secondly, making a bed from wooden boards is no more difficult, and this material is much safer and more reliable.

Bunk bed made of solid pine (photo)

The most affordable option is an array of pine. The wood is cheap, so picking up the right amount of the first grade is not difficult. Much more expensive oak or beech. It is harder, it is harder to work with it, but an oak product also lasts for decades.

In any case, the wood must be well dried - no more than 18% moisture, and treated with antiseptic agents. It is recommended to purchase planed boards.

For a bunk bed you will need:

  • wooden beam for racks - 10 * 5 mm;
  • timber for stairs - 4 * 6 cm;
  • board for spacers and sides - 10 * 2 cm, 15 * 2 cm, 20 * 2 cm;
  • plywood for the bottom or a set of rails with batten holders - the latter option is preferable.

Fasteners - screws, self-tapping screws, screws, metal corners, glue.

To clean the edges and edges, you need sandpaper, and to seal - a plastic edge or thermal tape.

Of the tools you will need the following:

  • screwdriver or drill with an appropriate nozzle;
  • jigsaw,
  • hammer, screwdrivers, pliers;
  • square, tape measure and building level.

Schemes and drawings

Making any design of a bunk children's bed with your own hands begins with a drawing. Moreover, this drawing must be done independently. Ready-made diagrams and drawings of do-it-yourself bunk beds are not always suitable, and here's why.

  • The determining parameter for the size of a do-it-yourself bunk bed is not so much the width and length as the height. If it is assumed that children will sleep on it for several years, then the sizes are selected with a large margin. Most often, these are standard ones - 90 * 190 cm. Alternatively, you can measure the mattress to be used and determine the parameters of the lounger by its width and length. In this case, the length of the bed should exceed the length of the mattress by 8 cm, and the width by 10 cm.
  • The height is determined by the height of the ceiling in the room. The child on the second tier should not only sit freely, but also move. In addition, the ceiling hanging directly above the face is very unpleasant. At a minimum, a seated child should not reach the ceiling with his raised hand.
  • Between the first and second tiers, the distance is selected based on the same principles. The easiest way to do this is for an adult: sitting on the second tier, dad does not touch the bottom of the top bed with his head.
  • The distance between the bottom of the lower bed and the floor is at least 30 cm.
  • When calculating the ratio, you need to take into account the thickness of both mattresses.

Drawing is required. Moreover, schemes of two sun loungers, the facade of the structure and the end face are required. It is necessary to draw a diagram, given the scale, and in as much detail as possible. According to such a drawing, it is much easier to calculate the required amount of materials.

If you use a ready-made do-it-yourself bunk bed scheme found on the pages of the site, you need to make sure that the dimensions indicated on it are suitable for the nursery. They can only be changed proportionally: you cannot simply increase the height of the bunk bed by 30 cm and place the lower sunbed higher. Any change affects the stability of the structure. This requires compensation both by adjusting other parameters and the overall strengthening of the framework.

Manufacturing and assembly process

We make a bunk bed with our own hands. Before assembling the product, the timber and boards must be kept indoors for several days so that the tree acclimatizes. In this simple way warping and drying of the material is prevented.

You can cut the boards yourself, or you can order a cut to size at the place of purchase.

  1. The first step is to make frames for the beds. To do this, a bar with a section of 5 * 10 mm is fastened in the form of a rectangle according to the size of the lounger. The best fastening is by the tongue-and-groove method with wood glue, but this option is only possible if there is a milling tool. If this is not possible, the connection is made on metal corners.
  2. A spacer is installed in the frame from the same beam or board 10 * 2 cm, after cutting it in width. Depending on the expected load, the spacers can be from 1 to 4.
  3. The sides are screwed to the frame: from a board with a section of 15 * 2 cm for the lower bed and 20 * 2 cm for the upper one. Self-tapping screws are screwed in from the inside and make sure that they do not go through the side.
  4. Make 4 racks for the frame. To do this, 2 bars with a cross section of 5 * 10 mm and a length equal to the height of the bed, together with the fence of the second tier, are fastened two by two so that they form an L-shaped profile. At the same time, the self-tapping screw is sunk into the tree, and the recesses are puttied and sanded with sandpaper.
  5. At the height of the first and second levels, holes are made in the finished supports for the mounting screw. The same holes are made in the frames of sun loungers.
  6. It is recommended to fix the structure to the wall. To do this, the upper level is fixed to the vertical risers with screws. Then the product is applied to the wall to mark the fixation points. At this stage, you can not do without an assistant, since the mount must be rigid. Holes are drilled in the wall at the level of the second tier, then the corresponding holes are made in the bed itself so that it passes through the beam of the frame and racks. The structure is pressed tightly against the wall and fixed with screws.

If the bed is installed differently, then the fastening to the walls is not performed.

  1. The first level is mounted - metal corners are used for reliability.
  2. At the second level, bumpers are made: boards measuring 20 * 2 cm are fixed on racks. Self-tapping screws are screwed in from the inside, the holes are closed in the manner described above. On the site where they plan to install the stairs, the sides are not fixed.
  3. For stairs, two 4 * 6 cm beams are fixed on the bed frame - both upper and lower. Install the crossbars, fixing them with self-tapping screws.
  4. A plywood sheet is laid on the frame - the bottom, or the slats are fixed on the lato-holders.

If necessary, the structure is sanded, opened with a matte or shiny varnish. The edges are closed with thermal tape or plastic edge.

DIY metal bunk bed

The construction of a metal bunk bed for children with their own hands is even simpler than a wooden one. But it is much more difficult to assemble it: it requires a welding machine and some experience in handling it.

  1. For the frame of the lounger, a metal corner 45 * 50 mm is used. The product is cut to size - with a hacksaw for metal or a grinder. At the ends of the corners, sections are cut out for a tighter joint and connected to the sides - a channel 65 * 32 mm. Parts are welded, checking the parallelism of the elements and the magnitude of the right angle.
  2. There are no sides in the metal structure.
  3. Vertical racks are cut from a thin-walled pipe with a diameter of 25 mm. The sunbed frame is welded to the racks. All welds light up
  4. Sides for the upper tier, headboard and footboard are more often ordered in the workshop: forging, hot or cold, allows you to get not only durable, but also a beautiful product. However, they can also be assembled independently from a pipe of the same diameter and rods. In any case, the sides on the second tier in the form of a single curved railing are not suitable. The sides should be made according to the type of railing with transom filling.

Manufacturing video

  • Most of the do-it-yourself videos on making bunk beds show only some moments of assembly. The lion's share of them is removed only for the purpose of familiarization.
  • Amateur videos are more often shot by experienced home craftsmen: here you can learn a lot of useful things. But only interesting or important moments from the point of view of the performer are shown here. Processes that he considers trivial or well-known are little covered.
  • The most informative source for a beginner is the instructions for assembling a finished wooden bed. Here, the material includes not only the installation sequence, but also a description of all the required parts, an indication of dimensions and illustrations for fasteners.

Using the instructions and more detailed video material, it is quite possible to make a bunk bed.

A homemade do-it-yourself bunk bed is a practical and attractive solution for a nursery. Its design is quite simple, so it can be made even by a novice master. And it’s even easier to arrange to the taste of the child.

Choosing a design and construction

There are a lot of varieties of bunk models - as far as imagination is enough. Consider the most popular.

  1. Traditional

Such a bed does not contain elements of other furniture and significantly saves space.

  1. With sofa

The sofa on the first tier diversifies both aesthetically and functionally. This model will save more space in room because you don't need an extra sofa. It can be used as a bed or just as a place to relax. Good for placement in the living room.

For the manufacture of this model, you will additionally need a sofa. It will be built into the design.

  1. With drawers

In this model, drawers or shelves are attached to the stairs leading to the second floor, used instead of lockers. In this case, it will take up a little more space in room than the traditional one.

You can save space with linen cabinets or toy cabinets.

  1. "Attic"

This option saves a lot of space room. Sleeping place located on the second tier, the lower one is for the working area. Usually there is a table for work, various shelves and racks. This design is usually chosen for older children (teenagers, students). Basically, such a bed is a single bed, but if desired, two will be accommodated on the second tier. You can build it in a corner with two sleeping places On the second floor. An important condition in the design of this model is strength.

The height of the ceilings should be taken into account, since the lower tier should be quite high.

  1. Three bedroom bunk

There are various suggestions to make a bunk bed a triple bed. If a child still small, besides the apartment one-room , you can do it with double bed on the first tier. If this product is for child - you can place both places at the top.

The bed option will depend on the drawing you choose.

  1. Transformer

Such models are very popular, as they save a lot of space. It consists of a table, cabinets and bed . A retractable table or mattress can be.

If you do not have enough free space in the room, and the child is already going to school, you should think about this type of product.

Training

We have figured out which models are the most “traveling” and comfortable, now we will decide what is needed in order to start building a bunk bed.

First of all necessary draw a drawing. The most convenient option would be to take ready-made schemes on the Internet, and, focusing on them, create your own project.

You will need to take measurements of the part of the room where the product will be located, and determine the size of the structure.

The drawing uses the following data:

  • Product height;
  • Length;
  • Width;
  • Distance from the upper and lower tier;
  • The length and width of the stairs;
  • The space between the stairs;
  • The height of the upper tier;
  • Width of bearing beams;
  • Cabinet sizes.

If you are planning lockers, be careful with the calculation of the distance for their placement.

Photos of ready-made options will help you visually determine how to make a drawing correctly.

materials

When choosing materials, consider your skills and the set of available tools. Chipboard or solid pine is great for work. We will prepare the tools that we will need for work.

You can use sheets of plywood for the base under the mattress.

Depending on whether you will cut the material yourself or entrust it to professionals, we select a set of necessary tools. The best option would be to cut the boards according to measurements with professional fixtures in the furniture workshop. Then you just have to connect all the parts.

We need instruments and devices for measuring, fixing. You can not do the work without a simple pencil.

To do this, you will need: a screwdriver, screws, glue, a level, a drill, a hammer, a grinder for processing the finished product, a blank material sawn according to measurements.

Making bunk furniture is not difficult if you prepare all the necessary tools and remember your existing building skills.

Getting Started

So, all preparations are completed, you can start making a bunk bed with your own hands.

Now let's move on to creating the back.

Make the second tier in the same way.

Using self-tapping screws and the flush method, attach the ladder to one of the uprights.

If necessary, railings can be attached to the top bunk.

If the design involves the presence of boxes, then the ladder should be attached to the outside of the carrier rack . Now attach the drawers to the stairs according to the drawing.

It is worth thinking about decor before starting production, as it can affect the project. For experienced craftsmen, it is possible to make furniture in the form of a house, car, or boat. You can attach "branches" instead of stairs, along which "young Mowgli" will climb to the second floor.

For an experienced craftsman, the bed turns out to be as if descended from the pages of a book with fairy tales.

A common option is to add a Swiss wall, athletic rings or a rope. Sliding beds have become very popular.

You can embody any design, depending on the imagination and skill of the master.

If you built a classic model of a bunk bed, and only thought about the design later, then use any textile for decoration: pillows, hanging decorations. attach rope.

There are plenty of options that creative people will find without difficulty.

In general, making a bunk bed with your own hands is not so difficult, besides, it is profitable and beautiful.

We wish you success in your work!

50 do-it-yourself double bed photo ideas:

Quite simply: the bunk bed, the drawing of which you have to make, will require concentration. The dimensions of any product depend on the size of the room, the height of the ceilings, the availability of free space, blank walls. Yes, and the stairs to the second tier also require space, so you have to add 5-7 centimeters in width to the place where the stairs adjoin.

However, look at the drawings: there are several of them, it is possible that some option will be ideal. Otherwise, resize.

Do-it-yourself bunk bed: drawings in the studio!

For children, there are certain furniture standards: a bed - one and a half meters plus 8 cm, width - 70 cm plus 10 cm, the width of the place under the stairs adds an additional 5 centimeters.

I just want to shout: “Drawings to the studio!” But here just with height it is necessary to understand. The higher - the warmer: the law of physics, so the second bed or the upper tier of the loft bed should not be done right under the ceiling. Children love to play at heights, so make sure they don't get life-threatening injuries if they fall to the floor. And even better, so that only bruises and a couple of bumps remain or without them at all: here the railing will come to the rescue.

It is forbidden to make a low bed!

But you shouldn’t make a low bed either: the height of the child is such that his head is not at all obliged to touch the upper bed, besides, adults also like to sit down on the lower floor with their child. So the drawing must also meet such requirements, so measure the height of the child with the condition that he will still grow. And do not forget about the ceiling: in Khrushchev it is 2500 cm. Immediately take away the thickness of the mattress? This is about 20 centimeters, and only now begin competent calculations. The standard version is 180x80 cm.

Choosing a material

Pine is quite acceptable for one's own hands, besides it is soft and cheap. To build the frame, you will need a bar: 140x18 and 140x30. Plywood is thick - on the bed, and it is better to buy a metal ladder. If there is no plywood, then you can buy chipboard, only laminated. It is harder to work with it, but it is also possible if a power tool is at hand.

DIY bunk bed + drawings and wallet

The base for a children's mattress is 185 by 90 cm, but these dimensions do not have to be taken into account: it depends on how much your child weighs and how tall he is. It is better to buy risers: the market offers steel pipes coated with plastic. Buy fasteners in the same place as plugs so that curious children do not try to unscrew the washers and not ruin the structure.

If a second child has appeared in the family, then in order to save space in the bedroom and money in the wallet, a do-it-yourself children's bunk bed is perfect. The process itself implies the presence of the necessary tools:

  • Pliers, hammer and screwdriver
  • Electric drill or screwdriver
  • Level, tape measure, square
  • Saws, a hacksaw will do
  • Clamps
  • Electric jigsaw

Making a bunk bed with your own hands is not difficult if you have certain skills in such work. It is also important to have a good idea of the end result, which is a significant incentive. Knowing where the bed will be located, you can make sure that it fits perfectly into the interior of the children's room. It is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the bed and correlate them with the prepared materials. During the work you will need:

  • Four wooden beams two and a half meters long
  • Four wooden beams three meters long
  • Four boards three meters long
  • Reiki or two plywood sheets about twelve millimeters thick (you can use chipboard instead of plywood)
  • Screws seventy-five millimeters long
  • Eight 6mm hex head screws
  • Ten bolts 6mm, seventy-five millimeters long with washers and nuts
  • Wood putty
  • self-tapping screws
  • Two bolts one hundred and fifty millimeters long with washers and nuts
  • Sandpaper
  • Polyurethane

Manufacturing Process Algorithm

You need to carefully assemble a children's bunk bed with your own hands: it will serve the children well, it will become for them, in a certain sense, another home.

Here it is better to cut off once, but you need to measure it seven times, so that the product matches the interior, is reliable in all respects. The process is simple, but everything requires precision and accuracy.

  1. You must first mark on the supporting structures of a simple product a location for fixing wooden boxes for laying mattresses
  2. Then you need to drill through holes for fixing screws, which are needed for rigid fastening of wooden boxes, which are intended for mattresses
  3. Similarly, it is necessary to make a hole for each screw on both sides of the longitudinal bars
  4. Then it is necessary, pressing the lower longitudinal bar to the first wall, fasten them with a screw, and do the same with the second wall of the support
  5. Similarly, install the upper longitudinal bars, which serve as the basis for the mattresses - as a result, the supporting structure of the product will be obtained.
  6. It is necessary to fix the transverse bars under the future bed for the child.

This operation applies to both the lower and upper tiers. We fix them rigidly with screws to the bars at a distance of thirty centimeters from each other.

  7. Now it's time to sheathe the frame of the box with boards on the side. Countersunk head screws work best for this sheathing.
  8. It is necessary to attach the sides-shields, which will prevent the child from falling asleep accidentally
  9. Rigidly fasten the stairs to the upper floor with screws

Things to Consider Before Getting Started

You need a firm confidence in what the size of the sleeping place will be and on which side to install the vertical ladder. The size of the bed is about eight centimeters longer than the sleeping place, and ten centimeters in width. The ladder increases the size of the product by about 4.5 centimeters.

To choose the optimal bed height, you need to take into account the height of the ceiling in the children's room. Of great importance is the distance between the second and first tiers. There should be enough space for the mother to sit down with the child if necessary.

For racks and stairs, you need bars and a board made of solid wood. The end panels are the same for the entire product, which simplifies their preparation. The side panels are equal in width to the end panels, which gives the bed an aesthetic completeness. The unevenness of their connection with each other ensures the originality of the composition.

Based on the size of the mattresses that will need to be laid on the bed, then you need to increase the size on each side by two centimeters. This will make it easier to fill the linen for the bed. The convenience of the product is the most important guideline in this work.

As for the first tier, its lowest position as a new sleeping place can be set by taking the height overcome by the baby almost without effort on his part as the foundation for calculations. Usually it is up to thirty-five centimeters for a child who is not yet three years old. Accordingly, the frame for laying the mattress will be lower by its thickness. But for the second tier, its maximum upper position is set taking into account the fact that an older child, whose bedroom is upstairs, can, if desired, sit down on the lower floor and at the same time not touch the second floor with his head.

How to build a solid framework

At the frame of a children's bunk bed, its reliability comes first, and the aesthetic side remains in the background. The bars must be firmly connected with screws. As a result, two approximately identical frames come out. They complement each other aesthetically.

A board must be screwed to the end and one side, while taking into account the importance of this fastening. It is better to screw in the screws from the inside and make sure that they do not go through the board. For short self-tapping screws, it is permissible to drill large holes using a depth gauge on the drill.

Also, the side is placed on the second frame. Mounting holes are best hidden with putty, after it dries, process it with sandpaper. The length of the leg should be in harmony with the height of the fence. The main thing is that the leg can withstand the expected load.

In the leg, you need to make a hole where the second tier will be attached, and about the same hole in the frame with a side. In the leg, such recesses are still needed that would make it possible to easily hide both the hex head of the screw and the washer. The hole should be of such depth that the screw, having pierced the side and leg, is securely fixed in the timber.

The children's bunk bed has another discreet specificity. Under the first floor, you can arrange a small but rather cozy bed box and put many necessary things there, including sheets and pillowcases for the bed. In this drawer, the child can store his favorite toys. The front panel of the drawer is not as long as that of the bed. Height - fully corresponds to the front panel of the first floor, which aesthetically looks very good, complementing the design of the children's room.

Mounting technology

Whenever we deal with construction, even if it is a miniature construction, the choice of manufacturing technology and material comes first.

The basis of the design is best to put a wooden board. Of course, its quality preparation requires some effort. It is necessary to align using a planer, sand with sandpaper, and then also pull with varnish to extend the life of the product.

It costs nothing to set the location of the racks in the event that the walls are made of drywall. It is important to accurately determine the place where the hole is needed. Here you will need an assistant in order to support the frame from below, firmly pressing it against the walls.

Guide holes must be made by drilling a rack profile, drywall, and also a frame bar. It is necessary to prepare places for screwing in screws with hex heads. Here you can not do without a long drill. The screws must be screwed in so that they connect the necessary elements and fix in the racks. The lower tier is also installed in a similar manner, that is, a frame with a side.
The fence is of great importance in the overall design, since it creates certain safety guarantees for children.

DIY bunk bed

The fence can be made of durable boards that are fixed on vertical posts. Self-tapping screws and here we must try to screw in from the inside. Moreover, it must be borne in mind that there should be an opening in the fence for the stairs leading to the second tier.

A vertical ladder is easier to make and takes up less space than an inclined ladder. First of all, it is necessary to properly fix two beams that will guide the movement of the child during the ascent and descent. The steps for it are securely fixed with 6 mm bolts. Bolts, which have a longer length, must be used when attaching the upper step with synchronous fixation of the ladder to the bed.

Option with laminated chipboard

Of course, the tree needs a lot of pre-treatment. If, instead of wood, in the manufacture of a children's bunk bed, laminated chipboard is used, then in this case, part of the technological operations will remain on the sidelines of the process. Instead, you will only need to process and stick the edge on the chipboard cuts. In practice, you will get a gain in time, the appearance will also win a little.

Laminated chipboard has a good characteristic in terms of wear resistance and strength.

It is necessary to saw laminated chipboard on the street, but the final work, with minimal dust and smell, can be comfortably carried out in an apartment. It is necessary to take into account the difference in the quality and specifics of the material and make some refinements in the manufacturing technology. In fact, they are not very significant. A children's bed from a laminated board will come out several times heavier than from a board, but the product will acquire additional stability.

When using chipboard, you will need completely different tools than in the case of wood:

  • Portable hand circular
  • For gluing the safety edge - iron
  • Screwdriver with bits and drills
  • Work gloves and knife
  • Ruler, tape measure, pencil

In order to make a children's bunk bed with good quality, you will need not only laminated chipboard as a material, but also an edge, glue, sandpaper, wood is needed only for a ladder leading to the second tier.

A big plus in this case is the limited number of technological operations in the process. They should only include

  • Having a good project with the subsequent transfer of data to a laminated board
  • Edge bonding on chipboard
  • Careful and even cutting
  • Fixing chipboard with self-tapping screws

Fixture and finishing of the bed
Connecting the parts of a baby bunk bed is crucial. It is best to properly connect the racks and side panels at the beginning of the process, then firmly fix the end panels with the side panels. Get a strong and reliable support structure. The frame designed for the mattress just rests on the bars attached from the inside to the side panels.

The upper tier has two boxes as a result: with narrow panels and wide end ones. Meanwhile, at the lower tier, narrow panels from the end will already be outside the box. This is not in vain, because they have a special role. They are fixed with spikes and bolts in the lower part to the bed posts, blocking the junction of two levels, being a spacer, which completely eliminates the displacement of the posts of the lower tier in relation to the upper one. As for the displacement in the direction of the longitudinal axis, plug-in spikes protect against it in the joint area.

In addition, all panels have additional fasteners, they are fixed to each other with plug-in spikes with glue. They can be fixed to the racks using special furniture bolts with decorative heads. Similarly, you need to consider the fasteners of the stairs leading up. The stability of the entire product also depends on it.

Finishing a children's bunk bed has both aesthetic and practical significance. Meticulously polishing the blanks before they are assembled into a kind of two-story complex helps the new furniture fit into the existing design and increases the service life. The same can be said about painting with enamel with several layers applied. Beautiful, but also useful for wood, which makes the product look even more attractive.

Making a bed from chipboard with your own hands is very simple.

Beds are used in very different ways and every adult understands this. Hedonists prefer to recline on eight-seater negadromes in the company of beautiful odalisques, while a Red Army private dreams of a trestle bed closer to the stove. The middle option is a bed without frills, but multi-purpose. A do-it-yourself chipboard bed can satisfy the needs of people of different classes and inclinations, if you think about its design.

We will make such a bed from chipboard

Chipboard bed design

Nature teaches us: The best solution is always the simplest. Minimum parts - maximum efficiency and durability. An example of this is amoeba, ciliates and other small rubbish. They are able to survive anyone, and did not care about changes in the situation. The base of our bed must be durable and indifferent, so we choose a box-like structure without legs.

If we take an average model with the dimensions of parts adjusted to a standard chipboard sheet, then we will make it for a spring mattress 2000x1400x200 millimeters. Such a bed can be considered a double bed if your belly does not prevent you from tying your shoelaces, and your wife's dress fits into her cosmetic bag.

The bottom of the bed in the photo is plywood - but this option is for mass production. In a single case, it is easier to purchase one sheet of laminated chipboard and one sheet of cheaper - polished. The bottom will turn out to be one-piece, not composite, which is structurally much more profitable.

Chipboard bed details

If you make a bed from laminated chipboard with your own hands, you will have to order sawing from companies equipped with a professional cutting machine. It makes no sense to spoil the materials yourself at home, when there is an opportunity to shift the blame for the failure to specialists and force them to redo the defective fragments.

List of parts made of laminated chipboard 16 mm thick:

  • 1432x700 mm - blank headboard. You can give it roundness with an electric jigsaw, or immediately puzzle the sawmillers with this question and overpay for a curly cut.
  • 1432x350 mm - footboard.
  • 2000x350 mm - 2 pcs. Sidewalls.

From the chipboard sheet, you will still have a bunch of scraps on which it makes sense to practice in subsequent operations, such as gluing edges and drilling.

Details from polished chipboard (no one will see them):

  • 2000x1400 - the bottom of the bed.
  • 1400x300 - 2 pcs. Partitions, one of which can be ordered in laminate if the sanding is smaller than the standard size (it happens).

Do-it-yourself children's bunk bed: drawings, diagrams, photos

Draw to scale the location of the parts on each sheet and give the drawing to the sawmill - it will be more reliable.

Fasteners and accessories for the bed

Before you make a bed from chipboard, you need to clearly understand its design and determine the degree of reliability of the fasteners. The second picture shows the bed "in section" with partitions. All ties are carried out by means of confirmations and are additionally duplicated with metal corners 30x30 millimeters. The corners must be “sharpened” for 4x16 mm self-tapping screws.

Bed Assembly Diagram

Exactly such corners will serve as an additional support for the bottom of the bed. As you can see in the drawing, they need to be screwed around the entire perimeter of the box - that is, to the backs and sides. Naturally, the level of the upper "shoulder" of the corners must match the height of the partitions = 300 mm.

From below, to the backs and sidewalls, you can (but not necessarily) attach the so-called "hooves" - plastic legs that protect the floor from scratches when moving the bed. They will also allow you to adjust the level of the structure, standing on an uneven floor.

Important! This bed must be placed in such a way that none of its corners "hangs in the air." Under the weight of the spring mattress and the people themselves, of course, it will stand on all supports, but at the same time, the stress in the material will create a threat of destruction.

An insufficiently even or bumpy floor is the main enemy of all chipboard products.

Bed assembly

Our regular friends have already read about the method of edging parts at home. The rest we voice additionally.

An ordinary 16 mm thick melamine edge with an adhesive base is perfectly glued to the end of the parts using an iron heated to three-quarters of the power. Gently iron it a few times and wipe the top with a dry cloth so that the edges stick better.

The edge is somewhat wider than the chipboard and the edges of the glued parts must be sanded with fine-grained sandpaper, after cutting off the excess plastic with a blunt knife. Sharp you can easily damage the laminate, which will not add beauty to the bed.

Confirmates do not fundamentally differ from standard self-tapping screws - the difference is only in size. We drill the plane through, with a diameter of 8 mm, and the end of the fastened part with a 5 mm drill and to a depth of about 60 mm.

The dimensions are indicated for confirmations 5x70 mm, which are easy to buy in furniture fittings stores.

At what distance from each other to fix the partitions - it does not matter. The main thing is that they are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the sidewalls. About a third of the length from the backs - and without a micrometer.

Separately, neither the confirmation screed nor the corners will give you the desired structural strength, so duplicate and do not be lazy. The bottom can simply be put on top, but it is better to put the bed “on the butt” and fix it with self-tapping screws, screwing it to the corners.

Actually, by this moment it is already clear how to make a bed from chipboard with your own hands ... It remains only to put a mattress on the bottom, and something attractive on top of the mattress, like a beloved wife or a teddy bear. But it's up to your taste.

Here we have tried to illustrate the simplicity of making any furniture from laminated chipboard for a person who is not afraid of a drill and a hammer. There is no need to overpay exorbitant amounts when shopping in stores: having understood the basic principle, you can build even the most exotic furniture options with your own hands.

Good luck to you.

Bunk bed for children: types and instructions on how to do it yourself

DIY children's bunk bed

A bunk bed is not just a rest and sleep area for a child, this is the place where children will play, grow and develop. Because of her, children will not rarely have disputes about who sleeps on the lower, who sleeps on the upper bunk of the bed. For parents, such a bed is also very beneficial. It takes up little space in the room, compared to two beds facing each other.

Children's bunk bed made by hand

There are a lot of different models of beds. You can always choose an option that you and your baby will like. But such a purchase has one significant drawback - it will punch a serious hole in the family budget. Therefore, it is worth thinking about the possibility of making such a bed yourself at home.

How to make a bunk bed. Bunk bed drawings, detailing, assembly order

This method also has a lot of advantages: the furniture will be made according to individual sizes and sketches, and you can also save a lot on components and the work of the master. And who does not dream of earning the glory of a folk craftsman and craftsman?

Beginning of work

Children's bunk bed

So, before you start making a children's bunk bed with your own hands, you will need to determine the place in the room where it will be installed, as well as purchase a ready-made mattress and measure all the necessary dimensions of the future piece of furniture. But it is worth remembering that the bed is not made for one year, and therefore it is worth buying a mattress and making the bed itself for growth.

After the mattress is purchased, you can begin to draw a plan for the future bed, indicating all the parameters. And do not think that you can do without a drawing and do everything by eye. Such a complicated thing as a do-it-yourself children's bunk bed in autumn is difficult to do without drawings.

Start preparing lumber for the bed should be based on the following dimensions:

  • the height of the bed will be approximately 1500 mm;
  • optimal width - 900 mm;
  • standard length - 2100 mm;
  • height from the floor to the lower tier - 230 mm.
