Rope ladder. All children love to climb on it. Option #3 - rope ladder without rungs

A rope ladder is a convenient and necessary device in the household. When folded, it takes up a minimum of space, but if necessary, when other marching structures cannot be used for any reason, it always comes to the rescue. A rope ladder is indispensable in the case of repairing hard-to-reach areas on the roof. You can’t do without it if there is a need to go down into a narrow well. In a house where there is a child, such a ladder will perform the function of sports equipment, while becoming a favorite toy for the baby. We propose to consider the three most simple in execution options for the manufacture of a rope ladder, which anyone can put into practice.

Rope ladders consist of two main elements - steps and a rope. Some craftsmen for arranging a homemade rope ladder adapt cuttings from a shovel, which they purchase in gardening or construction centers. Instead of wooden slats, it is also convenient to use tubes made of plastic or light metal alloys. Regardless of the material of manufacture, steps should not have sharp corners that can interfere with movement and injure a person.

In most cases, the steps of the stairs are made of wooden bars 4-7 mm thick, round or square.

Ropes for suspended stairs are made from both natural and synthetic materials. Natural fibers of flax, hemp and cotton are durable. They are great for arranging a "Swedish" wall and a sports corner. Synthetic materials such as kapron, polyester, nylon are considered more practical, as they are wear-resistant and have increased resistance to stretching. In addition, they are famous for their resistance to solvents, including turpentine, gasoline, and alcohol. Synthetic materials do not lose their qualities even when wet.

The optimal thickness of the ropes for a rope ladder is from 7 to 9 mm. Ropes of this thickness will not cut hands during operation and at the same time provide sufficient reliability of the structure.

The choice of rope ladder materials depends only on the purpose for which the product will be used: for outdoor work or in a closed dry or damp room

In any case, the hanging ladder is made no longer than 15 meters, keeping the distance between the steps within 25-35 cm. Since the rope ladder is one of the mobile structures, the weight of the finished structure should not exceed 20 kg. It is advisable to equip the suspended ladder with stops that will not allow the structure to touch the wall. The length of the stops can vary in the range of 11-22 cm.

  • Two pieces of strong rope 20 m long;
  • 7 wooden slats 35 cm long and 3-6 cm thick;
  • 1 roll of thick coarse thread;
  • Power tools (drill, jigsaw);
  • Fine-grained sandpaper;
  • and a construction knife.

All the cuttings, which will serve as the steps of the stairs, are interconnected using two ropes. The surface of the cut cuttings should be polished. This will avoid further troubles in the form of scratches and splinters in the palms. The length of the rope should be calculated taking into account that after tying knots in finished form, the ladder will be two times shorter than the original length of the rope.

It is quite simple to make a reliable and durable rope ladder that will easily support the weight of an adult.

To prevent the ropes from unraveling during the weaving process, their ends must be singeed. This can be done using a hot knife to cut the material. Wrapping the ends with a thick coarse thread will also help prevent the rope from unraveling.

Let's get to work. Before tying the first crossbar, at the end of each of the ropes we tie a loop with diameters of 6 cm, for which we will later hang the ladder. Now we take the first step and tie a rope on it. We fasten the rope using the knitting technique of a self-tightening “constrictor” knot, which ensures very good fixation of the crossbars.

A visual guide to knitting a constrictor knot:

But even fixing the steps with the help of a reliable “constrictor” knot, there is always the possibility that the steps can slip off. To prevent this, it is desirable to make grooves on both edges of each step. To extend the life of the crossbars, it is advisable to coat the cuttings with paint or treat with a special compound that will protect the wood, but at the same time will not make it slippery.

An overview of wood protection products will also be useful:

At a distance of one or two centimeters from the edge, using a knife, first we make cuts 1.5 cm wide and 3 cm deep. Then we form small grooves with rounded edges from them

Stepping back a distance of 25-30 cm from the first step, we tie the second crossbar. Using the same technology, we fix all the other steps until the ladder reaches the desired length.

Before tying tight knots around each of the rungs, you should make sure that the steps are parallel to each other. After all, it is extremely difficult to untie the “constrictor” in order to re-twist the knot.

A special device allows you to arrange the steps at the same distance parallel to each other: it is enough to fix the crossbars between the slats, and tie the edges sticking out from the outside with a rope

Alternately connecting all the steps, we also draw the ends of the ropes in the form of loops. The result should be a staircase about 11 meters long.

Option #2 - crossbars with through holes

A feature of the second method of manufacturing a suspended ladder is the need to make holes in the steps. Through them we will stretch the ropes, collecting all the crossbars into a single structure.

In the proposed version, we will use square wooden beams with a length of 40 cm and a synthetic nylon rope. In each handle, stepping back 3 cm from both edges, use a drill to make holes with a diameter of 1.5 cm. Having made a couple of holes, do not forget to make sure that their diameter corresponds to the thickness of the rope. After that, the crossbars are carefully sanded using sandpaper or a grinder, and treated with an antiseptic solution.

A nylon rope, the length of which is 10 meters, is cut into 2 equal parts. We process the edges with a harsh thread or hot metal.

We proceed to the assembly of the structure: at the ends of both ropes we make loops or tie knots. We stretch the free ends of the rope through the through holes of the first crossbar.

When assembling the structure, we use the same fixture, fixing the crossbars between wooden blocks nailed to the board.

We fold the long “tail” of the rope into a loop, lift it above the crossbar and wrap it around the rope knot. As a result, we get the first step, fixed between two nodes. Using the same technology, we assemble the remaining steps

Option #3 - rope ladder without rungs

In the event that it makes no sense or time to build a rope ladder with rungs, you can make a structure in which the rope tied with loops will play the role of steps.

Also interesting is the variant of the stairs with "burlak" hinges. This weaving technique is good because the result is not a knot, but a convenient loop. You can insert your legs and wrists into the loops to transfer weight to them and rest when you get tired.

It is not difficult to make a “burlak” loop: we twist the rope twice, forming something similar to a figure eight. We stretch the lower “tails” of the figure eight, and stretch the upper part of the twisted loop into the resulting circle. After use, the loop is easy to untie, using the rope for other purposes.

Step-by-step guide to making a "burlak loop":

Knowing the simple secrets of weaving a rope ladder, you can at any time build a convenient structure, sometimes so indispensable in the household.

The times of sailing ships and piracy are long gone, but one of the attributes of that era has remained and is still in use. This is a rope ladder. Such a device is useful in the household - with its help you can go down even into the deepest and narrowest places. The ladder will not take up much space in the garage or house. And children love to climb on it - it is not only interesting for them, but also very useful. If this is useful, then young parents should learn how to make a rope ladder with their own hands.

a brief description of

The design is a flexible ladder made of rope and wood blocks as steps. Instead of a wooden lath, you can also use tubes made of metal and plastic. Ropes for stairs are made mainly from synthetic materials, but there are also natural products.

The design differs from wooden or iron solutions in low weight - the product is almost weightless, and even a small child can easily lift it. Further, the compact staircase - when folded, it can be stored in utility rooms in the country, in an apartment it can easily fit on the mezzanine. You can even make a design with your own hands from improvised materials.

Stairs of such a plan also have other qualities - these are reliability, durability, high maintainability.

The product is based on a braided cord made of natural or synthetic materials. The diameter of the cord must be at least 15 mm. The tensile strength of the cord must be at least 300 kg for every 10 mm of section. If the ladder will be used to extinguish fires and to help in extreme situations and man-made disasters, then the cord is sprayed with non-combustible compounds to make the product fire resistant.

Abroad, in the manufacture of stairs, a metallized composition is used for spraying by the plasma-ion method. The cord must be made of special fibers. In domestic products, spraying is formal and does not give the stairs any special properties.

The length of the cord due to the peculiarities of production is twice the length of the finished ladder. There is a distance between the root cords - it can vary from 320 to 400 mm. Between the steps, the step is usually from 220 to 250 mm and it is better not to exceed this value.

The materials of the steps are different - they can be rope or wooden. Wood mainly choose hardwoods (beech, ash, oak).

To give the wood resistance to weathering, polyurethane varnish is applied to each of the steps. In a separate case, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, composite materials and plastic are used as steps.

Where are rope ladders used?

Since ancient times, these products have been an important and indispensable attribute of sailing ships. As the area for sailing equipment of ships grew, so did the number of rope ladders for servicing the ship. Two types of ladders were installed on sailboats - these are shrouds and storm ladders. Such rope ladders can be seen in old films.

The guys were stairs of a continuous set. They served not only to climb the masts and yards for maintenance. They were used both for fastening structures on the mast and for increasing the height of the masts. One of the varieties of guys were single ladders.

A storm ladder is a ladder, the function of which is to provide the possibility of boarding a vessel from the rowing compartment. A feature of these structures in wooden steps for greater stability.

With the end of the era of the sailing fleet, the rope ladder has not lost its relevance. At the time of the knights, these structures were used as compact and small means to overcome various vertical obstacles. They also used a rope ladder to court ladies - a man had to perform a lot of feats for his lady.

To get to his beloved in the dark, the knight used a pocket rope, or rather, a silk ladder to get into a house or castle. And then the rope ladder became popular in Russia - it was made and purchased for the needs of fire brigades.

Although certain functions have become a thing of the past, rope ladders are used for a variety of needs:

  • This is an indispensable device on ships, where there are necessarily storm ladders for emergency boarding of passengers in boats.

  • Not a single self-respecting climber will go to conquer Elbrus or Kazbek without such a ladder.

  • Products are also needed as rescue ones - they have long been adopted by the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the evacuation of people in the event of any disasters.

  • Where it is not possible to use a ladder, and this is a situation when you need to go down into a deep and cramped well, rope ladders come to the rescue.

  • If there are children in the family, then the children's suspended ladder will become an interesting toy and an excellent sports simulator.

  • Rope ladders remain indispensable for people with disabilities. Products help a person move from a lying position to a sitting position.

And although such stairs are not intended for use "for every day", since they are not able to replace mid-flight structures, they have a number of undoubted advantages, judging by the areas of use. It is light weight, compact, multifunctional, the possibility of making it yourself.

Finished stairs

In the modern market, the choice of finished products is small - these are mainly special rescue ladders, tourist and children's options. The industry has long mastered the production of a wide range of rope ladders to solve a variety of problems. And the stairs have different characteristics, one of the main ones is the length.

The most popular and running models are 4, 5, 6, 10, 12 meters long. These solutions cover the base height range. But there are also models with a length of 15, 18, 20, 30 meters. Thirty-meter ladders are used mainly for evacuation to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

We can distinguish the main types of products manufactured by modern industry:

  • LAN is a rope rescue ladder. It is completed with a bag for storage and transportation of a product. The length is from 6 to 30 m. Various manufacturers offer to purchase ready-made models with a length that is a multiple of a meter.

  • LVSC is also a rescue ladder, but equipped with a chain. The set also includes a bag. The length is from 6 to 30 m. At a length of 100-120 cm, the upper part of the structure is equipped with a high-strength chain with a small link. This type of stairs is very popular in industrial mountaineering.

What material is the ladder made of?

If you decide to make a staircase with your own hands, then you should be aware of the choice of materials. Most instructions say that a strong rope will suffice. However, experts recommend synthetic nylon, nylon, lavsan. These are strong and durable, as well as practical materials.

If you need to make a "Swedish" wall, then it is better to select ropes of cotton type. If the child's room is in a marine style, natural material is needed here - linen or hemp.

Depending on the scope of application and select materials. Rescue products for firefighters are made from non-combustible raw materials. Models for climbers should be durable and compact. A children's model can be made, depending on personal preference and what is available.

Steps can be made of wood, plastic metal. You can even use a stalk from a shovel. Sometimes the ladder does not have steps at all, but knots or loops are knitted instead.

Manufacturing methods [step by step instructions]

Let's try to build a universal design that will be useful for solving any problems. To assemble the product with your own hands, you will need two polypropylene or nylon ropes - 20 meters each piece. Polypropylene is durable, does not stretch, does not lose its properties when wet.

The rope in diameter should not be too thin, otherwise the product will cut the hands and strength will decrease. The optimal size is 8 mm or more. The length is selected, taking into account the method of fastening the steps. The length of the finished product will be half, and sometimes a quarter of the original length of the rope.

The crossbar can be made from cuttings from a shovel. They are sold in any stores and are very easy to buy. The diameter of the cuttings is about 3 cm, and the length is 140 cm. If it is a children's ladder, then they buy cuttings from a rake, they are made thinner. But it may be necessary to modify the handle - to make it round.

You will need the following set of tools: a hacksaw, a knife, fine-grained sandpaper, and a thick thread. The whole process looks like this:

1. First of all, cuttings are cut. The length of each cutting should be about 30 cm. About 25 pieces are cut. Further, after cutting, a segment 1 m long will remain. It will be needed to fix the structure on the wall or anywhere. Each piece of the cutting is ground with emery to a perfectly smooth surface.

2. To prevent knots from slipping, the edges of the steps should have slots. The depth is approximately 3-5 mm, and the width is 15 mm. To do this, mark each step - make ring cuts at a distance of 1.5 cm from each other. Then grooves are made with a knife. In order to increase the shelf life, the steps must be treated with various protective compounds. But the surface must not be slippery.

3. Next, prepare the rope. Pieces of the desired length are cut from the skein. To prevent the rope from unraveling, the ends are melted. For greater reliability, each end is wrapped with a thick thread. A loop is knitted on one side of each piece - its diameter should be about 6 cm. Such loops are needed to conveniently hang the product anywhere.

4. Next lay out the steps. If the ladder is intended for an adult, then the distance between the steps is no more than 45 cm. If this is a product for children, then the distance is reduced to 30 cm. The steps must be laid parallel to each other with the same distance between them.

5. Complete the assembly of the stairs in the same way as they started. To do this, at the ends of the rope we make similar loops as at the beginning. If the rope is too long, it needs to be adjusted.

Tie rope around stairs

To make the stairs comfortable and strong enough, and its steps were securely fixed, it is recommended to knit the Constrictor knot. It allows you to easily make your own ladder without having to drill holes in each step for the rope. The photo below shows in detail how to tie this knot, although it is quite simple.

Thus, all steps are connected. Loops are tied at the ends of each rope. If you knit the knots correctly, you get an 11-meter strong and reliable design that can easily withstand one person.

On the video: how to tie a constrictor knot.

Crossbars with through holes

This is a more complex solution to manufacture. It is difficult because the rope will pass through the holes made in the steps. You do not need to knit knots, but you will have to drill each crossbar. You will need rectangular bars. The rope can be replaced with nylon.

All work consists of the following steps:

1. Drill holes near the edge on the bars. The diameter of the drill should be slightly larger than the thickness of the rope. Sharp edges are processed with emery, like the whole timber. If necessary, the steps are painted with paint.

2. The rope is prepared according to the same technology as in the first version - first it is cut with a hot knife, then the ends are processed and wrapped with a thick thread. Next, figure-eight knots are made at the ends.

3. The assembly must be started from the last (lower) step. To do this, first pass the rope cord through the holes in the crossbar.

4. The rope is well tensioned so that the knot securely fixes the step and strengthens. It is important that the crossbar is in the correct position at both ends.

5. One node, which will act as an obstacle to the sliding of the step, is not enough. The crossbar still needs to be covered with the same cord. To do this, first take two loops as shown in the photo.

6. Now it remains to combine the two loops into one, pushing one through the other and stretching out the end of the cord. The result is a girth of the crossbar, so the step will be fixed more securely.

7. Finished with the first step. Now it remains to repeat the whole process with the rest of the bars. The main thing is not to forget to make a figure-eight knot before each crossbar to fix the steps.

Before you start operating such a ladder, it is better to check it first. It must withstand a lot of weight, reliably perform its function, and be safe for the child. Children in active play may be injured if the product does not meet the requirements.

When time is short, it makes no sense to build a structure from the first two options. Let's see how to make a rope ladder without wooden rungs. It is necessary to tie the rope with special knots. This product, with the skills of knitting knots, will be durable and reliable.

In this case, the photo shows two ropes of different colors. This will allow you to better understand exactly how to tie knots. The step by step guide looks like this:

1. Both ropes must be laid out on the surface. The second one (red in the photo) is in the form of the English letter S. It is important to leave free ends one meter long - this will be the top of the stairs.

2. Now pass the second rope through the resulting loops of the first cord as shown in the photo.

3. Now we begin to wrap the "improvised step". This must be done with tension so that the rope is fixed closely. After several turns, the end of the cord must be inserted through the loop formed.

4. Now we lay the rope with the letter S, which is blue, and repeat the same operation with red. Don't forget to pull the loose ends well.

5. In the same way, you need to do all the steps. The length of the ladder directly depends on the length of the ropes themselves and the number of turns obtained by tightening the knots.

Particularly popular are the so-called "burlak" loops. Their peculiarity and advantage is that the result is not nodes, but loops. They are very comfortable to put your foot in. Untying the loops is just as convenient as tying. The rope does not deteriorate.

It is easy to make a "burlatskaya" loop. First, the rope is twisted twice - you should get a figure of the type of eight. The second lower part is stretched, and the upper part of the figure eight is pulled inside the circle. Next, the knot is tightened.

Railing (equipped with rope)

This is a very unusual and interesting solution that requires a competent approach at the project development stage. This decor cannot be used for a ready-made flight of stairs. To create a rope railing, special balusters are needed - they are distinguished by the presence of holes for the rope. Tightly stretched ropes will not only be a good support, but will also become an original decoration of the interior.

A good way to decorate is to wrap a rope around each baluster. The special texture and similarity with the marine theme will help create an interesting unique atmosphere.

The traditional handrail can be replaced with a tight rope. For everything to work out successfully, you need to properly position the fasteners. It is enough to install several fastening elements so that the rope does not sag. In this case, the node will not carry any functional load, but will perform a decorative function.

With the help of this article, now everyone can learn how to make rope ladders with their own hands. This will help to occupy active children, attract them to sports and physical exercises, the stairs are indispensable in the household. It is possible both to completely copy the manufacturing methods, and to refine them - interesting projects can turn out.

The question of why a rope ladder is needed can be answered in different ways: for cleaning a well, for a children's treehouse, for use on a hike, or, for example, for a children's playground.

Steps made of branches

The knotted ladder consists of wooden steps, connected on both sides with ropes using knots. To make a rope ladder, you do not need to drill wood.

It is better to grind the cuttings for the steps so as not to get splinters later.

  • Prepare all the necessary material for work:
    • two coils of polypropylene rope (its length depends on the final length of the rope ladder, given that the ladder will be about two times shorter than the original length of the rope) - such a rope is not afraid of water and has good strength, wear resistance and low weight;
    • cuttings for steps - if you assemble a rope ladder “once”, you can use thick, durable branches sawn into segments of a certain length (about 30-35 centimeters each).
  • Stepping back from the edge of each step by 6-7 centimeters, make small indentations in them with a knife - they will prevent the rope from slipping.

Notches on the steps

  • Scorch the ends of the rope so that it does not subsequently begin to unravel.
  • Take the first step in your hand and tie a rope on it like this:

  • Step back on the rope 25-35 centimeters and tie the second step. Then proceed in the same way until your ladder reaches the desired length.
  • The second rope (on the other side of the step) is best tied after you finish collecting one side of the ladder.
  • Do not try to immediately tighten the knots tightly on the second rope - first make sure that the steps are parallel to each other.

Staircase with holes in the steps

Rope ladder steps

This version of the stairs will require a little more effort and therefore is most often used to make a product that will be used repeatedly. Such a rope ladder can, to the delight of the kids, be fixed on the playground - it is durable, comfortable and reliable enough to withstand not only the weight of a child, but also an adult.

  • Start assembling the ladder by making steps from wooden blocks with a section of 6 by 4 centimeters, 35 or 40 centimeters long (the size is indicated for a ladder designed for an adult; for a children's town, you can make a rope ladder a little narrower). Three to five centimeters from the edge of the bar, use an electric drill to make a hole in the center with a diameter of about 1 centimeter (the rope will be threaded into the hole twice, so after drilling one hole, make sure it fits).
  • All steps must be carefully sanded (you can do this manually or using a grinder).
  • If the rope ladder will be outdoors most of the time, then the steps must be treated with special protective compounds for wood - this way you will extend their service life. It is best to paint the steps in two or even three layers.
  • While the steps are drying, prepare two ropes of the required length. So that they do not begin to bloom, the ends should be slightly singed.
  • After the steps are completely dry, you can start assembling:
    • take a step and pass the rope through the hole from the bottom up (leave a “tail” 20-30 centimeters long from the bottom - it can then be tied in a knot to “insure” the lower step);
    • then throw the upper part of the rope down and again thread it into the same hole from the bottom up;
    • tighten the rope tightly.
  • Similarly, attach the remaining steps to the rope, each time stepping back 30 centimeters (this will be the distance between the steps).
  • Take the second rope and repeat the whole process on the other side of the steps. Don't forget to check if they are horizontal.

Staircase without steps

Stair knot

The simplest option is a staircase without steps, in which strong knots serve as footrests. How to tie them correctly is shown in this video:

Such a ladder is suitable for use on hikes, when, for example, you need to climb a tree, but you can’t do it in the usual way (by branches). However, only people who are physically well prepared and familiar with rope climbing, not only on TV or from school physical education classes, will be able to use such a ladder.

We often ask our readers to share their personal experiences, share their observations, and let us know if anything needs to be clarified or corrected. In this subheading, we will place a comment from our reader Alexei Merentsev, who shared his experience. We are pleased to present this material to your attention, slightly editing it:

“There is a special knot for this item, looks something like the photo below.

Rope-ladder

The knots on each stick are knitted symmetrically, with the top loop inward so that it does not fall off.

  • the rope is threaded from above into the hole,
  • after that it wraps around the stick “loop inside”,
  • then at the bottom it is threaded into the bottom loop and goes to the next stick.

These knots, unlike any others, do not slip, do not tighten tightly and are beautiful in their simplicity. They went to all Soviet DSKs.”

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands

Purpose of stairs

The main function is the need to periodically perform maintenance or repair of the building. It happens that if the head of the well is not sealed with anything (a lid or other decorative structure), then foreign objects can get into the shaft from time to time. To maintain the purity of the water, they need to be pulled out. To solve the problem, again, a ladder is used.

During operation, an open circuit may occur. To restore the structure, you will have to somehow organize the descent down. These are the main points when it is necessary to use ladders for wells. Considering that all the cases described do not require daily human participation, the most convenient is the removable version with compact dimensions and low weight, just such properties are characterized by rope execution.

Cleaning and repair of the well is carried out using a ladder

Existing types of ladders for wells

Depending on the user's requirements for the descender, one of the following options can be selected:

  • metal brackets that are mounted in the wall of the mine;
  • ladder made of wood or metal;
  • rope construction.

Staples are desirable to consider when other solutions are not suitable for various reasons. There are several significant drawbacks to the metal steps built into the wall of the well. First of all, it is the risk of rust formation.

Tip: To extend the life of this design, it is highly recommended to coat the staples with anti-corrosion paint.

In addition to this, damage to the surface of the staples over time can lead to violations of the tightness of the shaft. For this reason, this option cannot be used in drinking wells. And as a ladder for sewer wells - it is permissible.

Well ladder made of metal brackets

An attached wooden structure is much better than the solution just considered. It is stable, it is convenient to go down it thanks to the slope. However, there are also disadvantages: the attached version is not used in deep water wells, since in this case the ladder for cleaning the wells must be quite long, and this not only complicates the transportation and operation of the product, but also makes it difficult to store.

A similar metal version of the attached structure is slightly better than a wooden one, since it is even heavier, and it is very difficult to transport such a metal ladder for a well on its own, and even more so to install it in a mine. The main advantage of this solution is the presence of hooks in the upper part, which allows you to hook the structure on the head of the well.

Metal ladder in the well

Rope designs are much more convenient in operation, storage and transportation. This is due to the compactness of the design itself (a small width of the steps for the descent is enough), a relatively low weight due to the type of materials used. In addition, it can be made independently in a short time.

Rope ladder is lightweight and takes up minimal space

Overview of the advantages of rope structures

Comparing with analogues, a number of significant advantages can be distinguished, due to which the task of maintaining the well is simplified:

  1. Mobility, which is due to the low weight of the materials used in the manufacture. This allows you to transport the ladder to any distance without the need to involve assistants.
  2. Compact dimensions, which opens up ample opportunities for storage of the product.
  3. The ladder can be easily adjusted in length, so it can be used to service wells of any depth.
  4. The affordable cost of materials allows you to avoid large expenses.
  5. Ease of installation, as the manufactured one does not require special knowledge to implement such a solution.
  6. Possibility of use for absolutely any tasks on the organization of descent.

Such a design can be used even in situations where it would seem problematic to go down to a certain depth.

Operational safety requirements

Despite a fairly large number of advantages, such structures can be dangerous if they are made without relying on the basic safety requirements:

  1. In order to avoid restrictions on the use of the ladder in the future, it is necessary that the maximum supported weight of the product reach 360 kg. This will ensure the possibility of operation of the structure by adults of a large weight category.
  2. If the task is to make a mobile ladder for descending into the well, then its total weight should not exceed 20 kg, which will be determined by the dimensions (width and length) of the product, as well as the materials used.
  3. To avoid direct contact of the steps with the shaft wall, the design is equipped with special stops, the length of which can vary between 11-22 cm.
  4. Steps can have a round or rectangular section. In the first case, the minimum allowable value of the parameter corresponds to 2.6 cm.
  5. Steps should be located at a distance sufficient for a step (no more than 35 cm).
  6. The rope ladder for maintenance of the well should not be narrower than 25 cm. The recommended length for trouble-free operation is 15 m.
  7. Steps should have smooth corners, as sharp edges can injure a person.

As you can see, it is quite realistic to create a simple and lightweight design that does not take up much storage space and will be operated without unnecessary difficulties.

What materials can be used

In order to be able to withstand a fairly large weight (for example, one or even several adults), it is recommended to choose a material from several recommended options.

To create the basis of the design, apply:

  • polyester;
  • cotton fiber;
  • rope made of flax or hemp;
  • nylon materials.

Each of the options is distinguished by a high degree of strength, ease of use (fold the rope structure and unfold it), not to mention ease of transportation.

Considering natural and synthetic fibers, the choice is often made in favor of the last of these materials due to the fact that it is characterized by greater moisture resistance, long service life, and increased resistance to aggressive substances, in particular solvents.

When a ladder is made to the well with your own hands, it is also necessary to select the materials from which the steps will be made.

Suitable options are:

  • metal (usually these are light alloys, so as not to burden the structure);
  • wood is the most common solution;
  • plastic;
  • all the same rope from which the base of the structure was made.

Metal steps are the strongest, however, if the edges are poorly processed, the rope will be frayed, since the attachment points are in very close contact with the steps. Wood and other materials are lighter, but, accordingly, less reliable, with the exception of the rope, but it is not an ideal solution either, since in this case it is not very convenient to use the stairs due to the lack of structural rigidity.

Manufacturing instructions

Method 1

When the question is how to make a rope ladder with your own hands, you need to prepare a reliable option for fastening steps. This is the "Constrictor" node.

Node Constrictor

Knitting with the “Constrictor” knot does not involve drilling holes, but for structural strength, grooves must be made, stepping back from the edge of the handle 1 cm on each side. Recommended slot dimensions: depth 0.3 cm, width 1.5 cm.

Tip: To simplify the task, you should mark the location of the grooves, make cuts, and only then, using a sharply sharpened knife, make grooves of sufficient size.

After the completion of these works, the surface of the step is processed with sandpaper until the chips and roughness are completely smoothed out.

Having prepared the tree, it is necessary to process the ends of the rope. This can be done by singeing the material along the edge, or during cutting, use a very hot knife, which performs two functions at once: cutting the rope and processing edges. Further, observing the step, loops are made on each of the ropes with a diameter slightly larger than the steps, and the cuttings are fixed with them. This is done based on the fact that the distance between the steps will be 35 cm.

Shanks, acting as steps of a ladder, are tightened with a knot

The loops at both ends of the ropes remain empty, which ensures the fixation of the structure. Their diameter should be about 6 cm.

Method 2

Making a rope ladder with drilled rungs

The process described above is shown in the video.

Thus, simple calculations in practice confirm the possibility of manufacturing a rope structure. This will be inexpensive, given the cost of basic materials, and the work is carried out quite quickly, since the main difficulty lies in the preparation of the crossbars (marking holes at a certain distance). In terms of efficiency in use, this option is the most preferable among others. And although the price of ready-made ladders for wells is not so high, it can be much more pleasant and interesting to make such a thing yourself.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands - 3 ways to make

A rope ladder is a very useful device that is widely used in many areas of human activity.

Where are they used

Although some functions are a thing of the past, but still:

  • ships are equipped with ladders designed for emergency boarding of people in boats;
  • obligatory attribute of equipment of climbers;
  • used as rescue ladders , adopted by firefighters and emergency services, for the evacuation of victims;
  • irreplaceable in everyday life and economy. When conventional structures do not help, for example, if necessary, go down into the well. And of course, if there is a child in the family, the children's hanging ladder is at the same time the most interesting toy and a wonderful sports simulator;
  • devices for the disabled remain in demand , which help a person move from a lying position to a sitting position and vice versa. Ladder for bedridden patients is made of a dense non-stretching rope and can withstand a weight of 130 kg or more. As a rule, it has 4 or 5 wooden beams.

Photo gallery: application of rope ladders

Of course, rope ladders are not intended for everyday use, as they are not very convenient and will not replace conventional mid-flight structures. But still they have a number of undoubted advantages: light weight, compactness, versatility, ease of production - the ability to make a rope ladder without the help of professionals.

Safety requirements

Rope products are subject to certain requirements aimed at ensuring safety.

  • steps should not have sharp corners that can injure a person or interfere with his movement;
  • the hanging ladder must have a length of no more than 15 meters, and the width cannot be less than 25 cm;
  • the distance between the steps should not exceed 35 cm;
  • the rope product must have steps, the configuration and size of which ensure safe and convenient movement. If the steps are round in cross section, then their diameter cannot be less than 2.6 cm;
  • a portable ladder must be mobile and weigh no more than 20 kg;
  • the product that will be used by adults must withstand a weight of 360 kg;
  • must be equipped with stops that will not allow touching the wall. The length of the stops can vary from 11 to 22 cm;

What materials to choose

To make a ladder, you need, first of all, a strong rope. Most often, models made of synthetic materials are used: nylon, nylon, lavsan and others, as they are the most practical and durable. For a sports corner or a "Swedish" wall, it is better to choose a cotton rope. If you are going to design a room in a marine style, then you can not do without a ladder made of linen or hemp.

Steps are most often made of wood, metal or plastic is also used. Sometimes products do not have steps, but loops or knots are imposed instead.

Depending on what the ladder is for, the materials for its manufacture will be selected. So, the rescue ladder used by firefighters is made of non-combustible materials. For climbers, the main requirement is strength and frost resistance, and for tourists and climbers - lightness and compactness. If the product will be used exclusively in the household, as a children's ladder or decorative element , then the choice of materials will depend on your preferences, rather than on urgent need.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands - manufacturing and assembly methods

Universal

We will make a universal staircase that will come in handy in any household. For this we need:

  1. Two polypropylene ropes of the same size, 20 meters each. Polypropylene is good because it is durable, does not stretch and does not lose its qualities when wet. The diameter of the rope should not be too small, otherwise it will cut the hands, and the strength of the structure will also suffer. The optimal size is considered to be a diameter of 8 mm or more. When choosing a length, keep in mind that depending on the method of fastening the steps, the length of the finished ladder is half, and sometimes 1/4 of the original length of the rope.
  2. For the manufacture of steps, cuttings from a shovel, which can be bought at any hardware store, are perfect. Usually they have a diameter of 3 cm and a length of 140 cm. If a children's ladder is being designed, then thinner rake cuttings can be used.
  3. From the tools, prepare a hacksaw with fine teeth, fine-grained sandpaper and a thick thread.

Let's take a step-by-step look at the process of making stairs, everything is very simple, and now you will see for yourself.

  1. The cuttings are cut into segments of 30 cm each. You should get 25 pieces. In this case, there will still be a meter segment, which is useful for attaching the structure. Steps are processed with sandpaper. Be sure to make sure that the surface is perfectly smooth;
  2. To prevent the nodes from slipping, it is necessary to make cuts at the edges of the steps 3-5 mm deep and 15 mm wide. To do this, mark the steps, make two circular cuts on each edge at a distance of one and a half centimeters from each other, and then make grooves with a knife. To increase the service life of the product, the steps are treated with special compounds or coated with paint. At the same time, remember that the surface should not be slippery.

It is a self-tightening knot that provides a very good hold. But it is necessary to apply it only on objects without sharp corners, best of all round, like our steps. If the ends of the rope, after the knot is tightened, go strictly perpendicular to the axis of the steps, then the knot is tied correctly. It must be remembered that it is extremely difficult to untie the constrictor, so do not tighten it until you are sure that the steps are located correctly.

Video: how to knit a Constrictor knot

Thus, we methodically connect all the steps. We also tie loops with a diameter of 6 cm at the ends of the ropes. If everything is done correctly, then you should get a solid ladder of 11 meters in length.

With rectangular steps

The second method is more laborious and differs in that the rope will pass through the holes in the steps, and not wrap them in a knot, as in the first case. This time, we will use rectangular steps 40 mm long for manufacturing, and replace the polypropylene rope with nylon.

  1. The rope is prepared in the same way as in the first case: it is cut to the desired length with a red-hot knife, the ends are processed with fire and a harsh thread. Loops are tied at will.
  2. Next, we connect all the steps using the method outlined in the pictures. To fix the bars at the same distance, we still use the device described above.

Before use, be sure to check the ladder for strength and pay special attention to the installation method. For example, a children's ladder can be attached to a Swedish wall or another option when a suspended ladder is held with two anchors mounted in the ceiling.

without steps

When there is not enough time to make a rope ladder, it makes no sense to build the first two options, but the design, in which ropes tied with special knots play the role of steps, is just right. Such a product, with certain skills and a strong long rope, is easy to make on your own.

Especially popular are the stairs on the "burlak" loops. The advantage of the burlak loop is that it is a loop, and not a knot, that is obtained. It is comfortable to put your foot in and easy to hold with your hands. After use, the loop is easy to untie without damaging the rope itself.

The burlak loop is knitted quite easily: first, the rope is twisted twice, resulting in a figure resembling a figure eight. The lower part of the "eight" is stretched, as shown by the horizontal arrows in the figure. Inside the formed circle, the upper part of the "eight" is stretched, in the direction of the arcuate arrow.

There is an easier way that will allow you to make a ladder in a couple of minutes.

Rope railings in the interior

Rope railings are an unusual solution that should be considered when designing a staircase. Unlike subsequent options, this decor method cannot be applied to the finished product, since specially prepared balusters with holes for ropes are required. Several tightly stretched ropes will become not only a reliable support that will secure the movement up the stairs, but also an original element of the interior.

How to issue

Wrapping a railing with rope is a great way to decorate a staircase. Pleasant to the touch texture and associations with the marine theme will create a unique atmosphere. The manufacturing process is as follows: cut the rope to the desired length and fasten it to the railing so that it holds well. To do this, use a special water-based adhesive, which can then be easily washed off.

rope handrail

How do you like the idea of replacing traditional handrails with a tension rope? The success of this venture largely depends on the correct location of the fasteners that will support the entire structure.

Install several brackets so that the rope between them does not sag. Such nodes carry not only a functional load, but also play the role of a decorative object.

DIY rope ladder

A rope ladder is a useful thing. It can be useful on the farm, it can be equipped with a children's sports center. Making a rope ladder is not at all difficult even in field conditions.

Where are rope ladders used?

Despite the fact that this device is not universally popular and in demand, in some cases it is impossible to do without a rope ladder.

Children's hanging house or sports center. The rope ladder in these structures helps to develop flexibility, dexterity and endurance in a child. It also serves as additional entertainment.

Special bedside ladders for people with various motor pathologies. These devices help a lying person to take a sitting position without assistance.

Special bedside stairs

Rope ladders are actively used by the rescue services of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and fire departments to save people.

For business needs. Rope ladders can be used for cleaning wells, for repair work in hard-to-reach places, such as the facade of a house or roof.

Rope ladders are included in the equipment of climbers, ships should also be equipped with light and durable structures. Ladders are intended for boarding boats in emergency situations.

Sometimes rope ladders can be made for decorative purposes, if, for example, the children's room or living room is decorated in a marine style.

Rope ladder as decor

The material from which the structure is made

Crossbars. These elements of the stairs can be made of various materials: metal, plastic, wood, rope. The main thing is that they fully fulfill the function assigned to them: without deformation and kinks, they can withstand the weight of a person.

Sidewalls or bowstring. These items are made from rope. The material is selected depending on the application of the product: for children's sports corners, it is better to use natural rope. For household needs, it is recommended to use synthetic options: lavsan, nylon, nylon. These materials are designed for high loads, they are not afraid of humidity and temperature changes.

It is worth knowing that there are special types of ropes that have certain characteristics. So, stairs for the Ministry of Emergency Situations and firefighters are made of high-strength and non-combustible material. Climbing ropes can withstand low temperatures, and thin, strong and light ropes have been developed for climbers. In the manufacture of a rope ladder, you can use special models of ropes, this will help make the structure strong and durable.

rope construction requirements

The standard width of the structure should not exceed 40 cm, and the length should not exceed 14 meters.

Steps should be smooth, without sharp protrusions and corners. When lifting and descending from the structure, a person should not be injured or caught on the elements.

The crossbars must be at least 3 cm thick in diameter.

The entire structure of the ladder should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Rope ladder with wooden rungs

Bars with holes

For the manufacture of the structure, wooden rectangular bars are needed, 2.5 cm thick, 3.5 cm wide. It is not recommended to use glued or studded blanks for the crossbars. When loaded, they can fall apart into fragments. It is best to use solid wood without knots. The width of the blanks should not exceed 40 cm. The number of crossbars depends on the desired length of the structure. You also need to take into account the acceptable distance between the steps - no more than 36 cm.

Bars require preliminary preparation. Sharp edges need to be sanded to give the rungs a smooth finish. Then, using a drill, holes are drilled at the ends of the blanks. It is important that the holes are not located on the very edge of the wooden beams, it is best to drill 3-4 cm from the edge.

If the ladder is to be used outdoors, it is recommended to treat the wood with protective materials.

Ladder rope should not stretch, even when wet or under heavy loads. Therefore, it is best to use non-stretchy synthetic options, such as nylon rope 8-9 mm in diameter. The length of the rope is calculated very simply: the length of the entire structure of the ladder multiplied by two + 1-1.5 meters for knots on the rungs. It is best to leave more material on the joints, the remains will be easily cut off.

DIY rope ladder

Knot for secure step fixing

In the same way, the remaining crossbars are strung on the rope at the same distance and fixed with reliable knots.

When the ladder is ready, do not immediately test it at high altitude. It is better to conduct preliminary strength tests at 1.5-2 meters. To do this, the structure is hung on a horizontal bar or on a tree branch and its safety and reliability are checked.

For this design, it is desirable to use round wooden blanks. You can buy spade handles at the hardware store, their diameter is ideal for stair rungs, and the wood is already processed and sanded.

The cuttings are cut into fragments having a length of 40 cm. At a distance of 3-4 cm from the ends of the crossbars, it is necessary to cut recesses around the circumference with a knife or chisel. These grooves are needed to fix the rope on the wooden step. Thus, it is required to process each workpiece.

Staircase with wooden rungs

The rope for this ladder design needs a synthetic, non-stretch, diameter of at least 8 mm. The length depends on the design being made. It is also worth remembering that the knots also require about 2 meters of rope for fixing.

For the manufacture of stairs, you need to make a wooden template that will help you accurately position the rungs from each other. Also, the template is needed so that the steps are parallel to each other, without distortions.

The template is placed on a flat surface. The rope is cut into 2 pieces of even length. The ends are singeed and wrapped with a thick thread. Then the crossbars are laid between the wooden planks of the template. A rope is tied to the bottom step on both sides, securely fixed. Ropes are pulled to the second step and secured in the grooves with a knot called "Constrictor".

Video - How to tie a Constrictor knot correctly

In the same way, the remaining rungs of the stairs are connected. Loops are woven at the ends of the ropes, for which the ladder will be attached. It is important to observe the same distance between the steps, this will secure the use of the suspended structure.

A staircase with grooved rungs is the fastest and easiest way to make a suspended structure. Such a ladder can be made even on a hike if you have a strong rope, a knife and an ax with you.

In order to quickly make a ladder in the field, you need branches with a diameter of at least 4 cm. You can simply cut them down with an ax. It is important not to use dry and brittle blanks that may not support the weight of a person. It is better to look for strong and healthy wood.

The branches need to be cut into pieces, along the edges with a knife, cut recesses for attaching the ropes. It is not necessary to remove the bark from the rungs, under the bark the wood is slippery and smooth, it will be difficult and inconvenient to climb the stairs.

After making the crossbars, you can begin to attach the rope. There will be no template in the forest, so you need to carefully calculate the gap between the steps.

If desired, such a simple staircase can be easily done in an hour and a half.

Suspended ladder with plastic steps

The pipe must be cut into equal lengths

For a ladder, you need a strong, non-stretching synthetic rope with a diameter of at least 3-4 mm. To weave the sidewalls, you need 3 ropes, two of the same size but different colors, one half more: 10 m (blue) + 10 m (blue) + 15 m (black).

The bottom bar is attached first. Two ropes of 10 meters are passed through the tube, and the one that is 15 meters is put on top. At the edges of the crossbar, the ropes are connected and a pigtail is woven from them. In order not to get confused, you can use twine of different colors. Pigtails on both sides are woven to the beginning of the second crossbar.

We thread a strong rope (rope) into each piece of pipe

Then the second crossbar is attached. A loop is formed from a rope having a length of 15 m and pushed into the cavity of the tube. At the end of the loop, protruding from the second side, another segment of a long black rope is threaded. It turns out that the 2 ends of a long rope are fastened inside the tube. Then, from 3 ropes on both sides of the ladder, a pigtail is again woven, to the next crossbar. The third step is attached in the same way.

Now you need to arrange the rope and pipe sections as in the photo and thread the rope through the pipe sections to complete the staircase

It is important to observe the same distance between the rungs so that the stairs do not warp and the steps are not different in level.

When the ladder is ready, loops can be made at the end of the ropes or carabiners can be attached. This will simplify the use of the suspended structure.

For fixation, it is possible to tie knots at the entrance and exit of the rope from the tube, but this is not necessary, the rope ladder is ready for use

If only rope is available, you can make a simple and reliable ladder out of it, called a fire ladder.

Types of rope ladders: materials, designs and manufacturing methods

A large number of people in their work use a device such as a rope ladder. And although the townsfolk often see it on playgrounds, in the circus, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, economic divisions of housing and communal services, climbers and cavers in the arsenal always keep this device in their arsenal. She is presented with the main requirement - one hundred percent safety during operation. The article will consider various instances of rope ladders, their technical parameters and do-it-yourself manufacturing methods.

Characteristics of rope ladders

Turning to the topic of how to make a rope ladder, you need to break down what technical requirements are for this device. The main indicator is strength. This applies to all models without exception. Other requirements:

  1. Ropes for playgrounds are made from natural materials.
  2. Representatives of fire brigades and the Ministry of Emergency Situations use non-combustible materials.
  3. Climbers pay special attention to such an indicator as frost resistance.
  4. Climbers prefer ladders made of strong but thin rope.

With regards to technical characteristics and dimensional parameters.

  1. The width of the stairs is within 45 cm.
  2. Length - no more than 15 m.
  3. Weight - no more than 20 kg.
  4. The thickness of the rope is 7-10 mm. Thinner is impossible, it will cut hands, thicker - the mass of the device increases.
  5. Distance between steps: for children - 30 cm, adults - 45 cm.

Material for manufacturing

Rope ladder consists of 2 elements: rope (string), steps. For official use, they take a rope made of synthetic materials: nylon, nylon, polypropylene, and so on. Their strength is higher than that of natural materials, synthetics do not swell when in contact with water, do not rot.

Steps are made of wood, plastic, metal, rope. The main requirements are integrity, absence of deformations and flaws, withstand the loads required in different cases. The use of wooden beams requires a special approach to manufacturing. A mandatory procedure is grinding with sandpaper until a smooth surface is created.

Rope ladder options

Making a rope ladder with your own hands is not a problem. The main thing is to decide on the knot with which the steps will be tied. You just need to learn how to tie it.

Option number 1

This option, in which you do not have to tie the steps. You will need wooden bars of rectangular or circular cross-section: the first ones are 2.5x3 cm in size, the second ones are 3 cm in diameter. It is necessary to make through holes in them along the edges, located from the edges of the bars at a distance of 3.5-4 cm.

There is a similar option with drilling holes in the steps. The ends of the bar are additionally wrapped in it so that the latter does not move along the bowstrings. There is no need to tie the top knots, because the overall binding of the bar holds it in a certain position.

As steps in this design, it is recommended to use wooden bars reinforced with plastic pipes with an outer diameter of 26 mm. The tubes are strong but light.

Option number 2

This type of rope ladder is a structure with rungs without through holes. So that the rope does not move along the steps (beams), grooves 2 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep are made on the bars with a sharp knife. The distance from the edges of the bar to the grooves is 3-4 cm. Grooves can be made along the perimeter of the bar or 2 from opposite sides.

It remains to choose the knot that will have to tie the steps of the rope ladder. Simple, but reliable enough - "boa constrictor" or in other words "constrictor". The photo below shows the correct knitting.

One very important point must be taken into account. The running end of the rope, with a second turn around the crossbar, lies on top of the root end. This is clearly seen in Figure 3. To make it more clear how to tie a constrictor, watch the video:

Option number 3

For the construction of this rope ladder, plastic pipes with an internal diameter of 20 mm are used as steps. The rope is passed sequentially through the tubes, the latter are placed at the same distance. This distance should be equal to the distance between the future steps of the rope ladder.

The same is done on the opposite side of the structure, without breaking the rope. It turns out that the bowstrings will be laid inside the pipes twice. This will increase the length of the rope used, but increase the strength of the steps and ladder in general.

Option number 4

Consider an interesting option that does not use additional elements other than the rope. A do-it-yourself rope ladder made in this way is often used as a playground device.

You will need 2 ropes of the same length. They are laid out parallel to each other with a distance equal to the length of the step. One of them winds up behind the second and folds into a loop.

Please note that the end of the loop is laid at the level of the walking rope. The length of the loop is equal to the length of the step. The second rope is tied around the loop, wrapping it around many times. Important - the tighter you wrap and tighten, the better.

Do the same with the other rope. Ropes change places. The main thing to consider is the distance between the rope steps.

There is an important nuance in weaving a rope ladder of this type. After creating the last turn, the end of the rope is passed into the loop, fixing the running end.

In the end, you should get such a ladder structure, connected only from ropes without the use of rungs.

Railing equipped with rope

The main requirement for any type of stairs, regardless of what material they are made of: metal, wood, rope, is the safety of operation. Therefore, inclined structures connecting 2 floors of a building must be equipped with railings. As the latter, you can use an ordinary rope. The use of the latter is an additional peculiar, unusual solution to the decorative fullness of the room. Plus - the reliability of the supporting elements.

A simple option for using ropes in stair railings is to stretch them between balusters. In the latter, holes are made with the same vertical distance, where the ropes are inserted. Ropes can be pulled tight or laid with a little slack. There are no strict requirements here. The number of tensioned cables is selected according to individual wishes.

Attention! Balusters must be rigidly and firmly attached to the bowstring or stringer of the stair structure. Because rope fences are not load-bearing. They act as a protective element.

If the staircase is built in a narrow space enclosed by two walls (partitions), ropes as a railing can be installed on the surface of one of the walls. They will have to be attached to this surface by any means, devices. The photo below shows how the rope is passed through a special device in the form of a ring attached to the wall. To prevent the rope from moving relative to the fastener, a regular knot is tied on the latter.

Photo gallery

Considering the rope ladder and the possibilities of its use, it should be noted that this device is multifunctional. Therefore, a few photos where they can be used.

Conclusion

A do-it-yourself rope ladder made makes it possible to use it in the household. The main thing is to choose the right design, dimensions, material. You should not avoid spending money if the task is to make an inexpensive fixture. Opt for high quality materials.

A rope ladder is a great sporting attribute for a child. It can also be used in the country, if you need to climb the roof or, on the contrary, go down to the well. And to make such a thing yourself is not at all difficult. How to make a rope ladder - this article will tell you. The main thing is to follow the instructions exactly.

Almost everyone can make such a ladder. Even if you have never held a hammer in your hands, you can do it! Because you don't need a hammer.

The main advantages and advantages of a rope au pair

The advantages of this design over wood or iron are obvious:

  1. Ease of construction - it is almost weightless and even a child can lift it;
  2. Compactness - when folded, it can be stored in a barn (in the country) or on the mezzanine (at home). Takes up very little space;
  3. Making a rope ladder on your own is not a big deal at home.

For its manufacture, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Wooden block. The optimal size of the bar is 6 * 4 cm. But do not rush to purchase bars. Steps for a future rope structure can be made from cuttings for shovels. Also in the forest you can find dry and durable blanks.
    Important!

    Be sure to choose strong, non-rotten sticks that can withstand not only the weight of a child, but also an adult.

  • Rope - it must be strong, able to withstand the weight of an adult. Also, it should be quite soft so that it does not cut your hands. To do this, the diameter of the rope must be at least 1.5 cm.
    Note:

    It should be borne in mind that the final length of the rope structure will be 2 times less than the initial length of the rope.

  • If the ladder will be attached, for example, to the roof of the house, then you need to purchase mounting material.

Preparation of the necessary material for work

Before you make a rope ladder yourself, prepare the source material. To do this, simply saw the bar or stalk to the length that is supposed to be made as a step. The optimal step length is 35 cm.

Each workpiece must be cleaned with sandpaper. Be sure to clean thoroughly so that there is not a single "burr". Otherwise, splinters are possible.

It would not be superfluous to soak each blank with an antiseptic and drying oil. When the whole structure is ready, you can decorate each step with different colors, or you can entrust the children to color them.

Next, on each workpiece, we drill holes, which should be equal to the diameter of the rope. Drill holes at a distance of 3 - 5 cm from each edge of the step. If you prefer to make nautical knots for your rope ladder, then there is no need to drill holes.

Making the steps parallel causes some difficulty. Therefore, you can make the simplest adaptation. Two bars about 100 - 120 mm long should be nailed to a wide board. The distance between the bars will be the base size, and then the process of fixing the steps will be greatly simplified.

The prepared rope must be cut into two parts of the same length. Tie a tight knot at one end of both halves.

You can also take a look at the light and airy-looking ladders on the rails.

Let's start making a rope stepladder

Having prepared all the necessary materials, sanded the steps and cut the rope (rope), you can proceed directly to its assembly.

The optimal step size for an adult is 30 cm, for a child - 25 cm.

It is at this distance that steps must be made. Therefore, every 25-30 cm, we thread a rope into the drilled holes and fasten it with a knot to the bar.

You can fasten them to the rope with sea knots or Kostrikter knots. These knots are pretty strong. Perfectly hold even adult weight. To do this, you do not need to drill holes, you can simply make notches that are equal to the diameter of the rope. And notches are easily made with a file or knife.

Watch a short video of the Constrictor knot in action.

We attach special fasteners (carbine) to one of the ends, which is necessary in order for the whole structure to hold firmly. It can be attached to the ridge of the roof of the house, if you intend to use the stairs in the country. You can - to the Swedish wall or horizontal bar, if you use the stairs at home. The necessary fastening materials are purchased at the store.

Here is another reliable knot for fastening steps.

In this article, we described in detail how to tie a rope ladder with our own hands. Even if it is not planned to use such a thing for household purposes, then for children to play, this is an indispensable option for home and summer cottages.

You can make such an assistant on the farm with your children. Children will be very interested in participating in the manufacture of toys for themselves. That is why you need to try to make a ladder with your children.

A rope ladder is an item with a fairly wide scope. It is successfully used in high-altitude work, in the field of navigation, in the field of mountaineering and speleology. Rope ladders are used by firefighters and rescuers. Also, it can often be found on playgrounds for children and attractions. A rope ladder can be presented in the form of a variety of modifications, but first of all, it must be reliable and safe.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands, we will tell in our article.

Important technical specifications

A reliable and comfortable rope ladder must meet several parameters:

  • Width - 0.45m.
  • Length - no more than 15m.
  • It must be no heavier than 20kg and be capable of withstanding loads of at least 300kg.
  • Rope diameter 7-10mm.
  • If the ladder is an adult, then the distance between the horizontal rungs should be about 45 cm, for a children's ladder this parameter is reduced to 30 cm.

Material

In the manufacture of bowstrings, a strong synthetic rope is usually used, made of nylon, nylon, polypropylene, etc. They are much stronger than any other natural material, and also do not rot or swell when exposed to water.

For steps, they usually take metal, plastic, wood or rope. The main thing is that these parts are integral, not deformed and can take on a large load. If wood is used to make the crossbeams, it must be carefully sanded.

Staircase with wooden rungs and support knots

In this case, you will need round or rectangular wood bars. In each of them from the edges you need to drill a hole. Then start putting the crossbars on the ropes in sequence, leaving a distance of about 35 cm between them. Remember to tie simple knots above and below the holes.

It is so easy to make a rope ladder for children.

Rope ladders with boa knot

In this embodiment, wooden crossbars are usually used. Through holes are not required here. The rope is tied along the edges of the crossbars, and so that it does not move, grooves are cut out on them, the depth of which is 5 mm and the width is 2 cm. You need to retreat from the edges about 3 cm. Tie the steps with a rope as shown in the picture.

This option is also perfect for making a rope ladder for a Swedish wall.

Ladders made of rope and plastic pipes

Here, plastic pipes (diameter - 2 cm) will play the role of steps. Sequentially pass the rope inside the pipes, placing them 30cm apart. Next, without cutting the rope, repeat this procedure on the other side. As a result, the rope will pass inside the plastic pipes twice. You will get a fairly strong and reliable design, which may well play the role of a children's rope ladder.

rope ladder

In this model, except for the rope, no other materials are used. To create it, you need two ropes. Lay them parallel to each other at a distance of about 40cm. Lead one rope after another, folding it into a loop, the length of which should be equal to the length of the steps. Wrap the other rope tightly around this loop. Then repeat this procedure using another rope. Take a final puff at the end of each step.
