When funds do not allow to start a large-scale repair, and the soul asks for changes, do-it-yourself door decoration can be an elegant solution. Craquelure, patchwork, decoupage doors can be more than just beautiful words: an experiment in decorating doors, multiplied by a creative impulse and a moderate risk of an unexpected result, can give them a second life. And perhaps this second life will be better than the first.

Painting

One way to get an original door with your own hands is to simply paint it.

Choose a paint to taste, a fixing varnish, arm yourself with a spatula, brushes or - and you can update the door. The sequence of actions is simple:

  • remove the door leaf from the hinges and lay it horizontally;
  • remove old paint with a spatula;
  • sand with sandpaper;
  • putty bumps and cracks;
  • clean and degrease;
  • color;
  • apply fixing varnish.

Important! It would seem that everything ingenious is simple. But if you skip or unfinish at least one of the stages, only simplicity, no genius, will remain from the idea.

The nuances that matter, the observance of which will give an excellent result:

  1. The best choice is acrylic paints.
  2. To avoid streaks, you need to paint by laying the door leaf horizontally.
  3. As tools for painting, it is better to choose a roller or spray gun if the process takes place in an open space.
  4. Paint should be applied in two or three layers, each of which should dry well.
  5. Fixing the final layer of paint with varnish is a prerequisite for high-quality work.

Interesting. If you cover a painted door with a special varnish that imitates a cracked old surface, you get a craquelure door decoration.

Painting with selection of moldings

If the door leaf is decorated with moldings, they can be painted in a contrasting color. Such decoration using basic color combinations will give the door a fresh look. If there are no moldings, they can be made with your own hands from special strips.

Art painting

A hand-painted door will definitely take the first position in terms of originality. If you have at least minimal artistic inclinations, a sense of harmony and style, the door has every chance of becoming exquisite. Landscape, ornate ornament, the plot of a famous painting - you choose.

screen painting

If the makings of an artist are lame or completely absent, and you really want to have your own “door to art”, you can resort to the help of ready-made stencils. They are sold in assortment in specialized stores and are easy to use.

First, the door leaf is painted in the background color and dried completely. After the stencil is firmly fixed on the surface, and the pattern is painted over with a roller. Decorating the front door in this way will undoubtedly make it clear that an esthete and an original live behind it.

Wallpapering

An express option for the impatient is wallpapering the door leaf. There may be “design experts” who will assure that the wallpaper on the doors is a grandmother's version that has become obsolete. Do not listen to anyone: you do not encroach on someone else's door, but you will deal with your own without advisers. And if you are an adherent of any of the directions, you have every right to glue wallpaper on the door in absolute accordance with the style.

In order to qualitatively paste over the old door with wallpaper, you need to clean it, level the surface, sand it and degrease it. Using PVA glue, stick the wallpaper, pressing it tightly and driving away air bubbles.

Wall mural

Wall murals designed for doors are an even faster option than pasting with ordinary wallpaper. No measurements and cuts, just the choice of the desired theme and size. The result is a complete transformation of the door.

The gluing procedure is the same as with ordinary wallpaper.

After a while, having parted with a certain amount of money, the bored wallpaper can be changed to a new plot.

Patchwork

One of the ways to decorate a door is to glue patches of fabric using the patchwork technique. Such decoration of the door surface implies the following points:

  • you need to choose a fabric taking into account shrinkage and stretching;
  • glue should not leave traces on the fabric;
  • the edges of the fabric must be processed;
  • fabric trim is not suitable for the bathroom door, as well as the entrance and kitchen;
  • in the area of door handles, you should not stick light branded fabric.

With the help of a furniture stapler, glazing beads and PVA glue, you can decorate with a fabric both the entire canvas and its separate part in the form of an image composed of patches.

Decoupage

Decorating the door leaf with your own hands using decoupage allows you to achieve the effect of painting or even inlay. This popular technique today is good because it is suitable even for people who do not know how to draw at all. Postcards, napkins, magazine clippings can be used. The best option would be to purchase special decoupage cards or ordinary three-layer paper napkins with a suitable pattern.

In addition to napkins or drawings on a different basis, for work you will need:

  • sharp scissors;
  • PVA glue;
  • brushes, sponge, roller for applying paint and glue;
  • acrylic paint and protective varnish.

Decoupage of the door is performed as follows:

  • The surface is sanded, primed with acrylic paint or PVA glue and dried.
  • The pattern depicted on the napkin is carefully cut out along the contour. Two extra layers of paper without an image are removed, leaving only one thin layer.
  • The cut out pattern is carefully applied to the door surface, a layer of glue is applied to it with a brush.
  • The decoration is fixed with wood varnish.

stained glass

The door can acquire individual features if it is decorated with stained-glass windows. You can simply buy these glass inserts, or you can make your own, which is much more interesting.

For example, you can use the stained glass painting technique with paints. The sequence is:

  1. Clean and degrease glass.
  2. With stained glass paint, transfer the outlines of the pattern onto horizontally reinforced glass. It is more convenient to do this if the drawing itself is fixed on the back of the glass.
  3. Complete drying will take three days. Then you can paint the remaining fragments and let them dry again.
  4. Apply another contour that will give clarity to the drawing and hide minor flaws.
  5. After another three days, apply a protective varnish and allow to dry for about a week.
  6. Insert the finished stained glass window into the door leaf.

Interroom doors act not only as functional elements of the environment, separating and isolating rooms from each other, but are also an important decorative component of the interior. One of the ways to diversify the atmosphere without resorting to expensive repairs is the original design and decor of the door.

Thanks to such a simple solution, the interior will acquire individuality, which is quite difficult to achieve with ready-made store solutions.

Often, the reason for decorating doors is negative changes in their appearance due to operation, when the door leaf is covered with scratches, cracks, chips and other defects. At the same time, the door itself works as it should: it closes and opens perfectly, does not jam or creak. It is a pity to change it, and it is not necessary. There are many simple and effective tricks that allow you to quickly and inexpensively reanimate old doors, giving them a second life. We'll talk about this.

In various styles

Doors are an important style-forming element of the interior. Most likely, one of the criteria for choosing when buying was their style. For the same reason, when planning to decorate doors, decide immediately on the style component of the future design. Consider popular styles:

  • Classic style. The well-balanced proportions of doors, inherent in ancient Roman and Greek classicism, and the luxurious artsy decor of paintings, characteristic of palace styles, and the simplest design in neoclassical trends are considered classics. Authentic classic doors, due to their massiveness, are usually associated with the interiors of country houses. In reality, they often decorate a variety of apartments, corresponding to the idea of \u200b\u200bthe owners about comfort. You can update their appearance in many ways.

Thus, the design of paneled interior doors is distinguished by the presence of a visible wooden frame, which performs a load-bearing function, and curly inserts - panels. They can be glass or sheet materials - MDF / chipboard or plywood. Relief elements can be interestingly beaten with a mirror mosaic, and glass surfaces can be painted with acrylic.

  • Minimalism and high-tech. Among the most sought-after styles, leadership belongs to high-tech and minimalist designs. They are characterized by impersonality, inconspicuousness, versatility, thoughtfulness and convenience. They are combined with furnishings in any modern design and do not make claims to the most daring artistic experiments of the owners.

With a penchant for frequent space changes, but without drastic changes, you can simply limit yourself to changing the color of the doors.

  • Provence. Decorated in the style of a gentle pastoral French country, as well as Scandi design, they gravitate towards a light palette of shades. Therefore, white doors are often found in such houses and apartments. You can transform their appearance by finishing with a patinated effect. There are various ways to create a fashionable antique touch from simple patination to the use of gold, silver and bronze and complex surface treatment technology with two effects - patination + craquelure. The last two coating methods are quite difficult to reproduce at home, but the first option can be mastered by anyone.

  • Vintage. The vintage direction echoes the French country. However, vintage interiors are distinguished not by cozy lightness, but by well-groomed old-fashionedness or even artificial “aging”. The versatility of vintage doors allows them to fit into living spaces of any size, including open-plan spaces.

Decoupage technique is a great way to update door designs.

  • Loft. The popular brutal design in the attic style allows the use of door structures in any design, but sliding door structures remain the ideal solution for such interiors. With their help, you can divide large spaces of studios by performing zoning. In this case, it is worthwhile to design the doorways in an original way.

The main thing here is to decide on the shape of the opening: in the form of a rectangle, an arch - round, ellipsoidal, trapezoidal, asymmetric or an imitation of an arch with openwork corners.

The most popular materials include PVC panels, polyurethane moldings, artificial decorative stone and clinker - these are brick tiles. The design of the opening looks most spectacular, where the bricks are laid out by analogy with masonry. Since it is not necessary to clearly draw lines, then everyone can accomplish this task without involving specialists.

Purpose of premises

It is wrong to assume that the decor of doors is suitable exclusively for interior designs. It is no less interesting to decorate the door of the pantry, utility rooms and the entrance to the hallway. When choosing a design, they are repelled by the style orientation of the interior. It is important that the doors in the room are in harmony with the existing environment, and the entrance metal door does not contradict the interior design of the corridor. In addition, the dimensions of the room are taken into account, since some types of finishing materials can visually change the proportions of the space, and not always for the better. We'll talk about this a little later.

DIY patterns

The most uncomplicated and simple in execution option for decorative door trim is painting. You can make them plain or decorate them in different colors, if you wish, you can also create interesting patterns.

To emphasize the volume of protrusions and the originality of the design of decorative overlays on embossed door leaves, paints with interesting effects for metal, leather or marble will help.

Nuances of coloring

Regardless of the method chosen, the doors are removed and placed in a horizontal position - it is more convenient to work with the paint and it will lie more evenly, without forming ugly smudges. Preparation involves cleaning the surface of old paint, sanding and priming. Glass inserts are glued with masking tape. With a simple painting of the canvas in one tone, everything is clear.

But when several colors are used, they first paint the background areas, letting them dry, after which they start decorating decorative elements and moldings with contrasting shades. To create a simple geometric pattern - striped, diamond-shaped, combined with masking tape, delimit the desired areas, and then paint over them.

Decorating doors with more complex floral or fantasy patterns involves the use of stencils.

Acrylic painting features

Glass painting is done with acrylic paints. Since a stained-glass window is being created, it is impossible to do without stencils and decorative mastic to form a contour with an imitation of a metal frame. To decorate the glass surface with stained glass paints, the canvas must be given a horizontal position. You can use ready-made stencils or your own.

How to decorate?

The following few methods are suitable for updating old doors in cases where you have to deal not with a couple of scratches that are easily masked by butterfly stickers, but with an orderly worn canvas. That is, it already requires global transformations.

Decoupage

Decoupage technique allows you to create unique stylish vintage products. Various household items are decorated with original plots using cut-out paper pictures, napkins, decoupage cards, and fabric. Although you can decorate any surface: glass, leather, plastic, plywood, however, it is on wood that the decoupage finish looks most spectacular.

To decorate a door:

  • The surface is prepared - cleaned, sanded and primed with a white / transparent emulsion
  • They make blanks from napkins and stick them according to a planned scheme.
  • Allow the composition to dry and varnish in several layers. Before applying each layer of varnish, the door leaf is passed over with an emery cloth to make it smoother.

Such doors will organically complement any interior, making it unique and memorable.

Decorative rock

The decor of openings with artificial stone looks most attractive in spacious rooms. With all the advantages of a decorative stone, it "eats" the space. For a country house, this option is ideal, while in an apartment, the implementation of such door framing will be successful only if the interior is designed in minimalist trends. That is, the furniture ensemble is formed from the minimum number of furnishings.

Such a decision is also justified when it is necessary to hide the errors of the finish. They can be easily hidden if you put a stone around the door block, capturing problem areas.

In terms of aesthetics, this option is one of the most advantageous, because the texture of the stone looks very beautiful. A variety of color schemes allows you to choose an option for any interior.

Wallpaper

If the wallpaper decor option is definitely not suitable for the entrance doors, then it’s quite enough to decorate the elements of the interior space. The advantage of this method is efficiency, and the minus is fragility due to the rapid wear of the material itself, which leads to the inevitable loss of the original appearance. Even if you glue the door leaf with washable wallpaper that is designed for a certain number of wet treatments, you still won’t be able to admire the results of your work for a long time.

So, you can use:

  1. Wall wallpaper. If you want the doors to turn out to be monophonic - use wallpaper of the same type, and to make a complex composition - several. The main thing is to keep the color balance, then the design will be harmonious.
  2. Wall murals. Modern types of photo wallpaper please with high quality images, accurate and trouble-free docking of canvases with each other. Thanks to special photo wallpapers, the size of which is equal to the standard size of the door structure, and its design does not involve glass inserts and moldings, finishing takes a minimum of time.
  3. Liquid wallpaper. With their help, you can interestingly decorate the doors, creating beautiful, unique patterns. The advantages of this method are the originality of the design and the ease of pasting the doors with standard roll wallpaper, and the disadvantage is that it is absolutely unacceptable for rooms with high humidity - kitchens and bathrooms.

Regardless of the type of wallpaper used, it will be necessary to prepare the surface of the doors before pasting, which involves cleaning old paint, filling cracks, sanding and degreasing the door leaf.

stencils

With the help of this convenient and extremely effective way, even those who are far from fine art can become the owners of exclusive interior doors. And all thanks to the stencil - a truly ingenious invention that allows you to realize yourself as a painter, without being one.

You can get hold of suitable stencils both in an ordinary building hypermarket and in a specialized store, which offers a variety of patterns on floral and animalistic themes, drawings of hieroglyphs, geometric shapes, abstract ornaments and much, much more. The process of decorating comes down to applying a stencil to the prepared canvas, followed by applying paint.

The advantages are obvious - speed, simplicity and accessibility to everyone.

Tile

You can stylishly decorate the entrance or interior door with bright mosaic compositions made of ceramic tiles. An alternative to ceramics can be wood, veneer or finished glass mosaics. These materials are lighter, which eliminates the heavy load on the door unit, as can be the case with tiles, which still weigh a lot.

This option is great for door designs with a mirror.

Moreover, in addition to the door itself, you can also trim the slopes, highlighting them with an original pattern. You can decorate the door leaf both completely and partially, placing the patterns symmetrically or vice versa, asymmetrically, which always looks very stylish.

moldings

Another interesting option is the finishing of paneled doors with polyurethane or foam plastic moldings in the form of overhead volumetric strips. Their use allows you to imitate stucco. Decorative elements are fixed to the canvas with liquid nails. Contrasting color moldings are a popular design technique that is universally suitable for decorating bohemian boudoirs and strict classic living rooms. The black and white duet, although considered an interior classic, is already rather boring.

The new favorites of designers are pairs of green with white, yellow with blue, blue with red.

Refining an old canvas

It is never too late to get rid of an old or damaged door, although sometimes it is much more profitable to repair it than to buy a new one. In the same "Stalinka" there are real handmade rarities with a unique decor or specimens from a valuable array. If you ennoble such a door, then the interior will only benefit from this.

And replacing doors in Khrushchev is generally a costly task, since dismantling the door block entails many hidden problems. You will have to build up walls, make soundproofing, and often transfer communications. Therefore, it is worth considering once again whether you are ready for such a turn of events. Much cheaper and easier to decorate doors.

Work order:

  • The doors are removed from the hinges and laid on a flat base.
  • Treat the surface with sandpaper - first fine-grained, then coarse-grained or grinder, until the door leaf is perfectly smooth.

Then choose a decoration method. It is still better to entrust the decor of antique doors to craftsmen who are familiar with the intricacies of working with wood of different species.

Design Options

Doors are the face of the house, and their design largely reflects the character of the owners. Therefore, it is so important that the design of the doors is interesting and creates a welcoming atmosphere. Boring, faceless door designs deprive the interior of the main thing - individuality.

Ideas for decorating doors and openings in the interior of different rooms:

  • Artistic painting turns the most ordinary doors into real works of art. Light door leaves with fine hand-painted look amazing, however, and cost accordingly. If you can draw well, you can easily reproduce such scenes or create your own unique pattern.

If you decide to update the interior of your home, but do not plan to spend huge amounts of money, you can decorate the doors with your own hands, this will noticeably refresh the room with minimal costs. A wide variety of materials are used for this: wallpaper, fabric, paint, moldings, stickers, decoupage, mosaics, stained glass, decorations, etc. Let's take a closer look at how to work with them and what design ideas are best suited.

The decor allows you to give the door an individual unique design.

Wallpaper

The easiest way is to decorate interior doors with your own hands using wallpaper. This is a versatile material, as it is widely used not only for walls, but also for ceilings, furniture elements and, of course, doors. For this purpose, you can use the following samples:

  • remnants of wall wallpaper;
  • plain contrasting;
  • with a pattern or pattern;
  • wallpaper.

Finishing is carried out as follows: first you need to prepare the surface, if there are cracks, it is best to rub them with a special wood putty. The old paint needs to be cleaned off, and the door itself needs to be processed with fine sandpaper. In order for the glue to adhere well to the surface, it should be thoroughly cleaned of dust and degreased.

Decorating with wallpaper can be done in various ways. If you decide to make a completely plain door, the canvas is closed with one type of wallpaper from all sides. You can try to create a complex composition from individual pieces of material.

Wall mural on the door

Textile

The second way to decorate an old door with your own hands involves the use of fabric. It should be borne in mind here that not every matter is suitable for such a purpose. Much depends on the purpose of the room. It is highly not recommended to use the fabric at the entrance to the bathroom or kitchen, as it will quickly get dirty, saturated with odors and moisture.

If you want to decorate the door to the living room in this way, this is ideal, especially for the nursery. With the help of fabric, you can create a colorful pattern, give the canvas an interesting texture or lay out a soft drapery, such a finish will create a fabulous atmosphere in the room.

To decorate the canvas with a fabric, you can use several approaches:

  • glue;
  • glazing beads;
  • furniture stapler or nails.

Make sure that the fabric does not crumble or become stained. Matter with a lace structure can be additionally painted over in one tone or strokes of a contrasting color can be added using, for example, a sponge.

Fabric door trim options

Dye

You can also decorate an old interior door with your own hands using paint. This method is one of the most popular to this day, a huge plus is the ability to create any design, up to a complex pattern.

Before you perform the final decoration, you need to prepare the canvas. This is done according to the same principle as before wallpapering, however, in this case it is necessary to bring the surface of the old door to the ideal, since it is unlikely that it will be possible to hide minor defects. If necessary, replace the glazing beads holding the glass. The tree can be additionally treated with antiseptic impregnation.

Finishing is done gradually. To begin with, divide the door into several sections with squares of approximately 50x50 cm. If you are dealing with a smooth solid surface, you need to work with a brush from top to bottom and from left to right, evenly painting over conditional squares. are worked out first at the insertion points, and then along the central slats and lastly on the sides.

If you decide to create a drawing, you first need to prime the product, and then level the background. Only after such preparation can one begin to create a decorative composition.

painted doors

stickers

Another simple method is to decorate the doors with vinyl stickers. This method is great if the canvas as a whole is in good condition and you just want to add more colors to the interior or link the product with some piece of decor or furniture.

Ready-made stickers can be purchased at almost any store. If the existing assortment does not suit you and you want to bring a piece of your own personality, you can create a unique door design with your own hands. To do this, you only need a self-adhesive PVC film. Templates are best made from cardboard. Transfer the contours to the back of the film, cut out the element and carefully stick it on the door.

You can decorate the canvas with a roll of self-adhesive. This is a great alternative to painting and wallpaper. Just choose the right option and transfer the film to the product in a matter of minutes. Such a decorative finish takes a minimum of time, but it looks simply amazing.

Finished door stickers

A popular way to create unique vintage pieces is with decoupage. Using this method, you can decorate old wooden doors with your own hands. In principle, any surface can be decorated in this way, but it is in combination with wood that decoupage looks incredibly stylish and organic.

Decoupage of doors

In order to apply a pattern to the surface, it is necessary to clean and prime the base. Next, finishing is done with special paper, napkins or a printed pattern. Place it on the surface and cover with a layer of a mixture of water and PVA glue. With a flat brush, gently spread it over the paper, pressing it against the wood.

After drying, be sure to cover the decoupage with varnish to protect the pattern from wear and damage.

A rather original method of decorating doors with your own hands is the use of moldings. With their help, you can create some kind of imitation of stucco. This option is great for a classic interior, as well as for rooms with hints of antiquity or modern combinations, such as art deco.

Moldings on the doors

Decorating with moldings involves the use of special elements made of foam or polyurethane. To fix them on the door, use glue like liquid nails. Almost any composition can be created, but due to the limited forms, it is best to focus on straight lines and geometric angular shapes. However, keep in mind that decorating sliding doors in this way will not work.

Mosaic

A rarer and more unusual way to decorate old doors with your own hands is to decorate with tiles or mosaics. The slight popularity of this method is primarily due to the fact that ceramics are quite heavy, and therefore not every door can withstand such a load. In addition, the thickness of the web increases, which can also affect the quality of the product.

Options for decorating the door leaf with mosaics

If you want to decorate an interior door in this way, it is best to use the mosaic in fragments. This will give the canvas a bright original look, but at the same time, the finish will not greatly affect the thickness and weight of the structure. For glass products, you need to use a special white tile adhesive. It is even better to use epoxy mastic or other transparent resin, including liquid glass.

Another way to decorate an old door is to use glass inserts. You can buy ready-made glass with a film, pattern or metal inserts, but it is much more interesting to decorate the canvas yourself. The most popular methods are painting glass with acrylic paints or creating a stained glass window.

For the latter option, you will additionally need a decorative contour mastic that imitates a metal frame. You can only work in a horizontal position so that the paint is evenly distributed over the surface. After drying, insert it into the panel and secure with glazing beads.

Any finish can change the aesthetic perception of the door leaf and turn it into a real masterpiece of home decor.

Having completed repairs in the room, the owners may be faced with the fact that the old interior door does not match the new interior, although in terms of its functional abilities it can still last for some time. In this case, you should think about how to update the interior door with your own hands. There are several decorative techniques that differ in the complexity of execution and the cost of materials. You just have to choose the most suitable one.

Preparatory work

Before decorating interior doors, they are prepared. For this, the following tools are used:

  • building glue;
  • tracing paper;
  • press.

The door needs to be removed. Then examine the canvas for defects. If the old box has scratches, they need to be repaired with wood putty. You can decorate the canvas with photo wallpaper. If in some places the doors are peeling, then an adhesive mixture is applied, tracing paper is applied, and pressed. An adhesive mixture is also used to seal cracks and micro-crevices. If the defects are large, chips with fine dispersion are added to the adhesive composition.

Door Upgrade Methods

Simple ways to update the canvas include:

  • applying varnish;
  • staining;
  • the use of stain and veneer;
  • stained glass

Staining, varnishing and staining

Old wooden doors can be renewed by staining, varnishing and staining.

For water, synthetic and organic dyes are used. After that, the door acquires a neat appearance.

The door leaf is possible. Wood varnish is well absorbed into the wood, evenly covering the entire surface of the structure. The main plus of the protective and decorative composition is the presence of a tinting base.
To apply varnish, a sprayer or brushes are used. Experts advise to ennoble the tree with a brush that easily repeats the structure of the structure, well impregnating hard-to-reach areas. To increase the protective properties, it is recommended to paint the door in 2 layers.

If you have to refresh the box again, a stain is used. Then the coating is varnished. Stain can be used to update the color scheme of the canvas. It prevents the mixing of tones, and due to the subsequent varnishing, the brightness of the color is enhanced. Sanding results in a matte finish.

If there is no need to create a matte surface, polishing and drying is carried out after grinding. This technology gives the door a crystal shine.

Veneering

To decorate the door, veneer is used. This method of decorating wooden canvases is used if they are made from cheap sawdust. Due to veneering, the door acquires an aesthetic appearance. The veneer must be glued transversely relative to the wood fiber.

The veneer gives the door a noble look of a real solid wood

Self-adhesive film

You can decorate the box with self-adhesive vinyl imitating wood. With this technique, coating defects are easily hidden. Before pasting a wooden door, you will need to prepare a hair dryer, cloth, scissors.

At the first stage, the coating is cleaned of various defects. This stage is considered the most difficult. Next, markup is performed using a tape measure. These canvases are transferred to millimeter markings made by the manufacturer on the reverse side of the film. For cutting the product, a knife is used.

The film hides all minor defects and gives the surface the look of natural wood.

The cut pieces of self-adhesive are applied to the desired section of the door. On the wrong side of the film there is a protective layer, under which there is glue. Carefully separate a few centimeters of the layer to stick the product on the door.

The overlay, completely applied to the door, is smoothed out with a rubber spatula or a soft material. Self-adhesive is wrapped on all ends of the coating. Immediately cut the corners of the PVC product, install a lock with a handle.

Wall mural

With the help of modern photo printing, an image of the desired size is transferred to paper. Photo wallpapers on wooden doors look beautiful. The image is printed any. To do this, you can use the services of an advertising agency or a printing house. The image can be selected at home or with the help of specialists.

One of the options for updating interior doors are photo wallpapers.

On plain wallpaper, you can stick polyurethane or foam moldings. In this case, the style in which the doors were decorated will change. The resulting design is suitable for a room decorated in a classic style. If you use a colored background or rounded moldings, then the doors will be decorated in the Provence style.

Before applying the pattern, the surface is leveled, treated with glue. If the paint lags behind the door, it is removed. Wallpaper is also treated with glue.

A rubber roller is used to level the canvas. If bubbles remain, they are removed with a plastic spatula. Then the remaining air is removed from the center of the structure to the edges. With the help of this spatula, the joints of the wallpaper (if any) are ironed. If the technology is performed correctly, then the joints are not visible.

Wallpapers with moldings are suitable for interiors in a classic style

The edges of the wallpaper must be cut with a knife. This is done until the wallpaper softens from the glue. Otherwise, they will tear and stretch easily. Leave to dry for several hours. The process of decorating fiberboard or solid wood continues after 12-24 hours. It depends on the temperature and humidity level.

A simple pencil is used for marking. After the drawing has been applied, you will need to measure the length of the constituent elements of the molding with a tape measure. Then they are cut off, and the edges are cut down at an angle of 45 degrees. Using PVA glue, the back surface of the pieces is smeared. They need to be glued according to the markings. When the canvas has dried, it can be installed back. According to this principle, at home, you can update the doors of the bedroom, nursery, kitchen.

Drawings and paintings

The advantages of this decor include:

  • beautiful and original appearance;
  • simple execution;
  • the ability to use ready-made stencils;
  • wide choice of materials;
  • implementation of different ideas.

The disadvantage of the method can be considered that its application requires the presence of an artistic skill..
At the first stage, the coating is degreased with alcohol, treated with a primer. The last composition is applied twice. Acrylic paint is used in the same way. Each subsequent layer of paint is applied after the first layer has dried.

When zoning, the shape of the paneled part of the coating and the geometry of the ornament are taken into account. To give the surface a vintage look, the contours of the zones are covered with a different color. The paint can be applied with a sponge. The stripes that protrude from the door can be painted golden. Then the ornament is transferred to the surface and signed in suitable colors.

Decoration using decoupage technique

Decoupage does not require dismantling the door structure. You just need to wash and dry the cover. The opening is pre-pasted with mounting tape. The tree is well and qualitatively primed. The surface is rubbed with a simple paraffin candle, and then painted. The next step is gluing a decoupage card. Pre-soak it in water for 12 minutes. The remaining drops of water are wiped off with a rag. The back of the strips and the surface of the door are treated with PVA glue.

For decoupage doors, special decoupage cards are used.

Each piece is glued tightly. In this case, you need to ensure that wrinkles and bubbles do not appear. If such defects are not eliminated immediately after their appearance, the coating will turn out to be uneven.. If the coating is dry, putty is applied to the edge of the constituent elements. Excess composition will need to be removed with a wet rag or emery. A lacquered box will require a longer preparation for painting. Lacquer is pre-removed, defects are eliminated.

If necessary, the edges of the canvas are processed, scuffs are left. This technology will give the coating a vintage style. If the step-by-step instructions are followed, then the finished decorated doors will look original with details of different shapes. They can be cut from napkins. The color of the future canvas is selected taking into account the shade of the interior of the entire room. Sticking of the material is carried out according to the above method. The finished coating is varnished with an acrylic base.

Antique decoration

Antique wooden door can be seen not only in apartments, but also in houses and offices. At the same time, decor that imitates antiques is rare. It gives the door leaf individuality. By craquelure is meant a two-layer application of varnish on the door. Particular attention is paid to the process of selecting varnish - each layer should have a different composition and different drying times. Preliminary cleaning, degreasing and drying of the coating is carried out.

Craquelure gives the door the look of old wood

To age the door, you will need some materials:

  • special varnish for craquelure;
  • bituminous varnish, which gives the effect of antiquity;
  • acrylic paint.

A craquelure varnish is applied to the prepared coating. If the 1st layer is dry, the 2nd layer is applied - bituminous varnish. It is needed to enhance the contrast when a white background is used. If a dark tone is applied, acrylic paint is applied. This technology is considered the best. If necessary, craquelure varnish is replaced with simple PVA glue, vinegar, egg white or gelatin. This method of updating doors is suitable for people who like antique style.

Decor with stencils

If you have skill in processing wooden products, you can use a more complex update of the canvas. To apply decor with a stencil, you will need:

  • leather;
  • glass or mirror tiles;
  • stained glass;
  • mat;
  • bamboo curtains;
  • bars;
  • veneer.

To carry out such a decor requires perseverance and a good imagination. As a result, it will be possible to make an original door that will fit perfectly into any interior.

Using stencils, you can change the design of the door

The door, the canvas of which is replaced by a stained-glass window, gives the room an unusual look. To implement this idea, water-based paint is used. Previously, the desired pattern is thrown onto the surface. Paint is used to transfer the design to the glass coating. This procedure is performed in a certain sequence:

  • preparation of a sketch of a drawing on paper;
  • glass processing by cleaning and degreasing;
  • substituting the picture to the glass, followed by its stroke on the back side with a thin brush;
  • drawing the contours of the drawing with different colors of paints.

After the process is completed, the paints must dry for 22 hours. Then a piece of glass is mounted in the door, well fixed.

Renovation of the opening and slopes

In addition to the door itself, the doorway is also updated. If this is not done, then the canvas will have an unfinished look. To successfully complete the above work, it is recommended to gradually consider the finish.

The finishing of the slopes and the opening must match the interior of the door and the room

At the first stage, the reference guides are processed. Then they are repainted in the same color as the door leaf. In case of severe wear, plasterboard sheathing is mounted on the guides. In the presence of roughness, perforated corners are used for sheathing. Then the opening is repainted.

Subsequently, it will be required correctly. For their installation, special clamps are used that hold the platbands well. In the absence of clamps, glue or self-tapping screws are used.

If the door is updated only with an opening, and the slopes remain the same, then the decor process is considered incomplete. Various methods are used to finish slopes. More often, special MDF strips are used to update the slopes. You can also install drywall slopes that are fixed to perforated corners or glue.

Another method of finishing the slope is plastering. This process is the most time-consuming and requires experience and qualifications in this case. Experts believe that the best solution is plastering followed by the installation of perlite slopes, which are not cheap. But in the end, you can get strong and durable slopes. They don't get mold.
