Colored and green garden arches. We decorate the landscape with climbing plants. We decorate the summer cottage - with garden arches made by our own hands Street arches for flowers with our own hands

Regardless of the style in which your summer cottage is decorated, the garden arch will become one of the main decorations. The air structure, entwined with greenery and flowers, is impossible not to notice. In addition to its main task - to support climbing vines, this element is extremely decorative. The arch brings a touch of romance and lightness to landscape design, smooth shapes soften the overall outline of the garden. Therefore, more and more gardeners prefer this type of decoration of their site.

Green gate to a beautiful garden

Inscribed in the design of the dacha, garden arches beckon with their mystery. It seems that some special fairy-tale world is hiding behind the green passage. It is possible to create any design of a country arch with your own hands, which will emphasize the features of your site.

It is convenient to designate the functional areas of the garden with decorative arches. For example, a recreation area, the passage to which is entwined with lush greenery, will become even more comfortable. The entrance to the summer cottage, decorated with an arch, looks very advantageous. In this case, the design should be as solid and thoughtful as possible, because, in fact, it is the face of the entire courtyard.

Arch at the entrance

An interesting design move is several arches installed along the garden droshky. Over time, overgrown plants will create a real green tunnel, which is a pleasure to walk along.

When choosing options for garden arches, it must be borne in mind that their dimensions should allow the tallest members of the family to pass, and also leave freedom of maneuver for utility wheelbarrows and other garden equipment. It is permissible to build small narrow arches only for decorative purposes, away from gates and paths.

An important role is played by the design of the arch itself, excluding plants. If in the summer, behind the lush greenery, a flaw in the design is not visible, then in the winter an unattractively made arch can ruin the whole landscape. Therefore, it is necessary to try to make the support as aesthetic as possible.

Variants of garden arches

When studying photos of garden arches, it is easy to see that they are made of a wide variety of materials. Most often you can find wooden and iron structures, but the fantasy of gardeners knows no bounds.

Air structures made of metal

One of the most common materials for building an arch in a summer cottage is metal reinforcement. Arches welded from metal are strong and durable, but for all their solidity, they look almost weightless.

The simplest version of an iron arch for a summer residence is arcuately curved pieces of reinforcement fixed directly in the ground or on support posts. However, this design is not very aesthetic and rather unstable. More often, supports are used, from two metal arcs interconnected by short pieces of reinforcement or thick wire.

The most sophisticated option is forged structures. It is unlikely that it will be possible to make such a garden arch with your own hands; the photo shows that only craftsmen can do such complex designs. If you decide to order a forged arch in the workshop, you will get a unique decoration of the site.

flower tunnel

The only drawback of metal supports for flowers is their susceptibility to corrosion. To keep iron from rusting for as long as possible, it is coated with special anti-corrosion compounds or painted every year.

Available in wood

It is easiest to make an arch in the country with your own hands from wood. In every household there are unnecessary bars and planks. With the help of skillful hands, they can turn into a beautiful flower prop.

The main difficulty in building a wooden arch is that it is very difficult to create a domed top from the boards. Therefore, wooden structures often have the shape of the letter P or a triangle.

The simplest wooden arch consists of two vertical supports and an upper horizontal crossbar. More complex options include a bunch of two or more basic structures. The arch with an additional crossbar at the bottom, which acts as a bench, looks very unusual.

wooden arch

Despite the fact that all stages of the construction of a wooden garden arch are not difficult, this design has certain disadvantages. Chief among them is shortevity. The tree quickly rots and cracks under the influence of the external environment. To slow down the process of destruction, the boards are impregnated with anti-rotting compounds, stained, varnished or painted.

Modern support made of plastic pipes

With the advent of modern building materials, it is increasingly possible to find garden arches made of plastic water pipes. Such supports are strong, not subject to corrosion, durable. If you have experience working with this material, making a plastic arch in the country is not difficult at all.

They make it according to the principle of an iron arch, using plastic pipes of small diameter instead of fittings. Plastic is very malleable, so bending a semicircle is not difficult. Pipe sections are connected using plastic spurs and a special welding machine for plastic. It is also easy to find ready-made plastic arches on sale - inexpensive, light and practical.

Unusual arches from unexpected materials

Look at the photos of unusual garden arches, perhaps you can create something similar with your own hands. The material used is brick, stones, intricately curved roots. A lantern, garden sculpture, tree trunks can serve as a support for a non-standard arch.

You can play with the shape of the structure. Round or twisted arches look fresh and unusual. Supports with a figured dome look interesting. To make your garden stand out from the rest, let your imagination run wild with photographs of a variety of custom arches created by landscape artists.

Step by Step Guide to Building a Plant Support

To make the structure last as long as possible, use the step-by-step instructions for creating it when building a garden arch. The algorithm of work for different types of arches is somewhat different, so we will consider several options in detail.

Instructions for creating an iron arch

A simple iron arch structure consists of two arcuately curved pieces of reinforcement connected by pieces of thick wire.

Stages of construction of a garden arch from reinforcement:

  1. Based on the desired dimensions of the arch, calculate the length of the reinforcement. For a support 2 m high and 1.8 m wide, you will need two pieces of reinforcement about 6 m each. With a distance between the arcs of 30–40 cm, prepare the required number of transverse connecting pieces of thick wire of the appropriate length.
  2. Bend armature. To do this, an arc template is drawn on the ground using a peg and a rope, the length of which is 90 cm. Using the template, two arches are bent.
  3. Connect the arcs to each other, welding short segments between them. The easiest option is to weld them in the shape of a ladder, but you can do it with rhombuses or other shapes. For convenience, the elements are first connected along the edges and in the middle, and then the rest of the space is filled with crossbars.
  4. At the site of the future arch, the points where the supports touch the ground are marked on the site. They dig a hole at these points, install segments of metal pipes there, commensurate with the diameter of the reinforcement, and then fill the holes with concrete. The tubes should rise above the ground and exactly match the arched supports.
  5. After the concrete has hardened, the ends of the arched structure are inserted into the holes of the tubes. If the arch is not supposed to be removed for the winter, the reinforcement is welded to the tubes. To make a collapsible arch, the connection is not welded, but fixed with wooden wedges. The finished building is being painted.

DIY wooden arch

Making a wooden arch in a summer cottage is much easier than a metal one. Even a cursory glance at the photo of garden arches is enough to understand the principle of operation.

Step-by-step instructions for building a simple wooden arch in the country with your own hands:

  1. Prepare three bars with a square section. The thickness of the bars depends on the size of the structure, as well as on the plants that will curl along it. For annuals, a thickness of 5–6 cm is sufficient, while for thick perennial vines, bars with a cross section of 8–10 cm are required.
  2. For a two-meter arch, two support beams 2.4 m high and one transverse beam are taken, equal in length to the width of the structure.
  3. All three beams are connected with self-tapping screws in the shape of the letter P. To increase the strength at the corners, additional oblique crossbars can be made from thinner strips.
  4. They mark the location of the arched supports on the ground and dig a hole 40 cm deep in these places.
  5. That part of the beams that will be underground is impregnated with machine oil or special anti-rotting solutions. Additionally, you can wrap the wood with roofing felt or film.
  6. Install the arch in place. Large pieces of broken bricks or stones are placed in the holes and poured with concrete. Fix the structure with spacers until the concrete hardens. The finished arch is painted or varnished.

How to make an arch:

1. The main wooden elements of the arch are made: from a bar 10 x 10 cm - support pillars (you will need 4 pieces of 200 cm each); from a bar 5 x 4 cm - transverse beams with curly edges (2 pcs. 180 cm each); from the board - longitudinal crossbars (2 pcs. 80 cm each), perpendicular crossbars (8 pcs. 120 cm each).

2. Prepare pieces of wooden slats for the arch lattice: short - 20 pcs. 80 cm, long - 8 pcs. 150 cm, side - 4 pcs. 150 cm.

3. Try on metal supports to the bottom of the arch pillars. If necessary, the timber is adjusted in size by sawing with a jigsaw.

4. All parts are ground, treated with moisture-resistant and antifungal impregnation, and dried. Cover with two layers of yacht varnish or waterproof paint and completely dry again. If desired, the arch can be painted after installation.

5. In the ground, using a drill or an ordinary shovel, dig 4 holes - 20 cm in diameter, about 35 cm deep. They should form a rectangle 1.5 x 0.5 m. which is loosely packed.

6 Install sections of asbestos-cement pipe into prepared pits. Fill the recesses of the pipes to the top with cement mortar. The surface is leveled. Work is continued after two days, after the cement has completely solidified.

7. Anchor screws (you can also use ordinary screws with dowels) to the pipes protruding above the ground are attached to the metal supports for the arch pillars.

8. Wooden poles are fixed in the supports, also with the help of screws (with nuts). Check periodically the quality of the installation by level. If there are no special metal supports for the arch columns, you can strengthen them directly in the ground, after wrapping them with roofing material. In this case, the bars for the pillars are made 15-20 cm longer.

9. Two upper transverse beams with curly edges are attached to the posts with self-tapping screws. For strength, the arch pillars are fixed with diagonal and horizontal struts. Then eight upper longitudinal bars are installed.

10. A decorative square lattice for climbing plants is made from wooden slats on the sides of the finished arch.

Metal garden arch with round vault

What to prepare for work:

  • metal profile (25 x 25 or 30 x 30 mm);
  • steel rods (section ≈ 30 x 30 mm, length 30 cm);
  • mechanical or automatic pipe bender;
  • circular saw for metal or grinder;
  • welding machine;
  • fine gravel;
  • river sand;
  • cement M400-500;
  • fine sandpaper.

How to make a metal garden arch:

1. The metal profile is cleaned of dirt, polished with sandpaper, degreased.

2. The following are made from the processed profile: 8-12 segments 45 cm long (arch beams), 2 segments 6.3 m long (arcs of the arch).

3. On each side, on both arcs, measure 1 meter. Make marks. With the help of a pipe bender, without affecting the marked sections of the edges of the profile, two semicircular arch frames are made.

4. All side rails are welded perpendicularly to one of the metal arcs at regular intervals. Then this frame of the arch with the crossbars is turned over, after which they are joined to the second and also carefully welded. As an additional decor, you can use ready-made forged elements.

5. Upon completion of work, steel rods are securely welded to the ends of both arcs of the finished arch.

6. Measure the distance between the support rods. Four holes are made in the ground for their installation, 45 cm deep, about 10-15 cm wide. They are filled with 15 cm of sand and gravel, moistened, tamped. Install the arch, after wrapping the rods with roofing material. Fill holes in the ground with cement mortar. Check the quality of the installation of the arch by level. Fix the supports until the cement hardens with spacers.

Light country arch made of plastic pipes

What to prepare for work:

  • plastic pipe, section 20 mm;
  • construction knife or hacksaw;
  • plastic fittings;
  • soldering iron with a nozzle "iron".

How to make a plastic garden arch:

1. From plastic pipes (polypropylene are the most convenient to use and durable), arch elements are cut. For the simplest single structure, you need: 2 segments for supports of 1.6 m each and 1 segment for a horizontal lintel, 1.5 m long. For an arch with an arched vault, you will need a lintel 2.4 m long.

2. Prepared plastic parts, alternately heating on the “iron”, are tightly connected with fittings. You can additionally fix the joints of the arch with any quick-setting glue.

3. The finished arch made of plastic pipes is buried in the ground, well rammed. If desired, you can strengthen the supports with cement, but given the ease of construction, this is not necessary.

Video: light garden arches for flowers

Decoratively decorated flower beds or installed where necessary, arches for flowers in the country can significantly change the overall appearance of the site, to place accents. Everyone can make their garden beautiful, cozy. We always strive to equip the territory of our stay with comfort, not forgetting the aesthetic side. For many of us, a dacha is not only a source of organic vegetables and fruits, but a place where the soul and body rest.

What is an arch for flowers

The arch is the oldest architectural element, relevant at all times, successfully used today by landscape designers. With its help, you can harmoniously zone the space, create an atmosphere of relaxation, comfort, give a touch of romance to the local area. Arches are installed at the entrance to the garden, they make out paths with them, they are combined with gazebos, placing tables and benches for rest inside.

The general perception of this decorative element largely depends on the type of construction, the material from which it is made. Strength, stability, along with an attractive appearance at any time of the year are the main requirements for the construction of arches. For their manufacture, wood, stone, plastic, brick, forged fragments, metal are used.

Do-it-yourself flower arches, photo:

The country arch can be of any shape: voluminous (pergola), trellis, consisting of many vaults, trellis - it all depends on your imagination. Forged structures look impressive, sometimes weaving plants should be thinned out so that the beauty of the work itself, the elegance of lines, can be seen.

When erecting this structure, it must be borne in mind that its height must be higher than human height, and its width must be more than 1 meter. In terms of size, modifications of the arch should look harmoniously against the background of the house and other buildings. A country arch for flowers can be easily erected with your own hands, we will look at some examples here.

General requirements:

  1. The material for manufacturing must be reliable, withstand the pressure of winds, snow, and other weather conditions.
  2. It should always look beautiful: in spring, summer, autumn, winter - it should look equally aesthetically pleasing with or without plants.
  3. Its size should correspond to the growth of all family members. The nuance that it will subsequently be braided with plants should also be taken into account when determining the dimensions.

Arches can be conditionally divided by shape, by material of manufacture, by purpose. They are rectangular, semicircular, triangular, in the form of canopies, etc.

We make an arch with our own hands

Arches made of brick or stone are the most durable. If anyone can fold a brick structure, then professionals will have to be involved in decorative masonry.

The simplest option could be a curved iron rod - a frame that will braid climbing plants. Any metal parts are best degreased first, and then coated with paint.

A wooden arch is more preferable for perennials, since in frost it does not become as cold as metal. If the arch consists of wooden fragments, then it is better to fasten them with galvanized materials. The tree harmoniously fits into any style, if desired, you can create a whole ensemble, including a gazebo, decorative fences, lattices.

A simple example of a wooden arch can be a structure consisting of stairs located opposite each other (elements resembling ordinary stairs), fastened at the top with a wooden jumper.

Flexible varieties of flowers or shrubs will look great on it. Over time, the stems of plants coarsen, woody, take the form that the arch sets.

A metal flower arch can be made from metal rods or rebar.

For load-bearing arcs, you can use reinforcement with a 10 mm cross section, for transverse fragments a little thinner - 6 mm. Two main arcs are made, and between them, to give rigidity and stability, crossbars are installed. These connections can be of various shapes: curved rings, snakes, cross-welded straight pieces of an iron rod. These fittings can be welded to the carrier using a welding machine or securely screwed with a flexible metal wire. They are located one after another - the distance between them is about 20-30 cm.

The depth of immersion in the ground is 40-60 cm. In the same way, a series of arches can be made, which will be located one after another. Subsequently, they will look like a flower tunnel.

For work you will need construction tools:

  • pipe bender;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • pliers;
  • wire cutters;
  • wire;
  • roulette;
  • a hammer;
  • level;
  • in some cases, a welding machine.

Sometimes it is quite difficult to achieve the same symmetry of the arcs, but this is not a big problem. Subsequently, this structure will be braided with plants, flowers, which will hide minor flaws.

How to make an arch for flowers with your own hands from plastic pipes? To achieve this goal, it is not necessary to be a specialist, it is enough to know the features of working with the material, to follow simple recommendations.

Take the correct measurements, calculate the plan for the future structure, first draw the arch on paper. The main structure consists of fragments of a plastic water pipe, which are connected using fittings. For reliable welding of parts, you will also need a special soldering iron with nozzles.

The process of creating such an arch:

  1. In accordance with the agreed dimensions, the pipe is cut into fragments.
  2. Adapters suitable in size (diameter) are selected.
  3. Docking points are degreased.
  4. The required parts are put on the nozzle of the soldering iron, heated to a certain temperature, and then connected to the adapters. Docking points can only be touched after the final cooling.
  5. If there is no "ironing", you can use a suitable glue. The outer surface of one part, as well as the inner surface of the adapter, are covered with glue. It is held for a certain time, after which the parts are connected and rotated a little.
  6. When all parts are securely fastened together, you can install the structure. In order for your arch to withstand gusts of wind, other natural “attacks”, depressions in the soil for it must be at least 40-50 cm.
  7. We put the arch, fill the installation sites with soil, carefully tamp.

It is better to clean plastic arches in a barn with the onset of winter, as frost has a devastating effect on the material. They are moisture resistant, more practical than wood or metal, which eventually rot or corrode.

The guarantee for the use of plastic pipes is calculated for approximately 50 years; such an arch can be made and installed relatively quickly. The low cost is also an added plus.

Flowers, plants for the arch

When thinking about what flowers to plant for an arch, the first thing that comes to mind is climbing roses. This garden design is very convenient for growing these flowers: it sets the desired shape for the shoots, in the best way demonstrates the beauty and features of the variety. When choosing flowers, it is important to take into account the climatic features of the region, plant varieties, so that at any time of the year the arched structure looks attractive.

Annual and perennial plants are suitable for this, which should be planted as close as possible to the base of the arch. Since perennials fully reveal their decorative qualities 1-2 years after planting, climbing annuals can be planted next to them - morning glory, sweet pea, kobe, nasturtium. You can hang a flower pot with ampelous petunias, begonias. Decoration with annual plants will help brighten up the waiting time, when either a climbing rose gains strength and grows in its permanent place.

Curly roses are considered classics of garden decoration, they are voluminous, have a rich color palette, have a magical aroma, they do not need troublesome care. The bush is planted at the base of the arch, and then the shoots are tied to the structure as they grow. Before winter, roses are covered with appropriate covering materials so that they do not freeze.

Before you make an arch with your own hands for flowers, think about the material for its manufacture. Roses, for example, are very sensitive to cold. So that the stems do not suffer from contact with cold metal, a plastic or wooden arch will be more appropriate for them.

Evergreen ivy is attractive with its lush emerald foliage, it is hardy, does not require special care, and will decorate your arch even in winter. It grows slowly, so before you wait for the result, you will have to be patient.

Lush-leaved girlish grapes are also frost-resistant, unpretentious in care, grows in the sun or in the shade. It is enough sometimes to cut it with scissors to always have a beautiful arch. You can simply plant him near the structure, and then he himself, clinging to his antennae, will braid it.

Clematis is not inferior to roses in its beauty, it is distinguished by dense long flowering until late autumn. Requires care, loves fertile soil, regular watering, top dressing. However, the end justifies the means. Clematis with rich colors are very beautiful. Some varieties have an amazing aroma. They need to be planted at a distance of 20-30 cm from the arch, not close.

Kampsis is a tree-like liana, characterized by an unpretentious character, fast growth.

In July, among the lush foliage, large bright orange and yellow "gramophones" appear, which delight the eye with their beauty until the first frost. In case of frosts above -20 ° C, it is necessary to cover with spruce branches, film or covering material - for reliability.

Honeysuckle - curly flowers for the arch, having a variety of colors, sweet aroma.

It blooms throughout the summer, grows on any soil, in partial shade or in the sun, has dense lush foliage. Some varieties, such as Henry's honeysuckle, remain green even in winter. You should know that the fruits of some species of this plant are poisonous.

Hops practically do not need care. It grows well in warm weather, stretching up to 10 meters, braiding the arched structure in just a year. This plant is attractive for its small yellow bumps, which are used to treat nervous disorders (infusions, decoctions). A decoction of hop cones has long been used to strengthen, hair growth, and also as a diuretic. Thus, hops planted near the arch will not only decorate your summer cottage, but also benefit health.

Actinidia kolomikta is a winter-hardy vine that produces flowers by the end of May. The white flowers of this plant have an incredible aroma, somewhat reminiscent of lilies of the valley and lemon. The foliage is also noteworthy - young leaves are bronzed at first, then they turn green, begin to turn white at the tip, and then turn to crimson. With free pollination, actinidia can have fruits (probability 50-70%) that can be eaten. The green berries of actinidia are somewhat reminiscent of olives in appearance, they have a rich vitamin composition.

According to gardeners, bougainvillea is considered the best plant for shady areas. He likes a warm climate, abundant watering, fertile drained soil. Creeping shoots of this plant can reach 10 meters in length. It blooms profusely with white, purple, orange, crimson flowers, which can have a different shape. From April to September, it needs phosphorus top dressing, which must be applied 3 times a month.

Arches for flowers in the country house allow you to present all the advantages of the site, give it a romantic touch, an atmosphere of mystery. Despite the simplicity of design, the aesthetics of the arches is undeniable and in demand both today and centuries ago. Depending on the purpose of the installation, the arch can be the main or additional design element, serve as a support for climbing plants. With the help of this decorative structure, you can make your site individual, not like the rest.

Ipomoea Kvamoklit pinnate or Ruby stars

You always want to make the territory of the personal plot not only practical, but also beautiful. Spending time outdoors is doubly pleasant, admiring the beauty made by one's own hands.

The arch will give a special atmosphere and comfort to any site. However, this design is not only a decorative element, but may well serve as a means of zoning.

An arch can highlight a recreation area, creating secluded corners, or separate a garden from a vegetable garden. In addition, it is one of the most convenient ways to grow climbing plants.

Arch designs

Arches for flowers in the country can be used singly, for example, to highlight the entrance to the site, or you can build a tunnel from several separate structures. By placing two or three arches together, you can create a gazebo with living walls.

For the manufacture of arched structures, different materials are used. On sale, you can most often find arches that are made of hollow plastic tubes. For their reliable installation inside the tube adjacent to the ground, it is necessary to insert fittings of approximately one and a half meters in length.

With this fixing, your arch will not be damaged either by strong winds or by situations where you can inadvertently touch it.

Forged metal arches look very nice in the garden. Often they are real works of art and look spectacular, even when not braided with plants. On such arches, you can hang planters on special holders.

Lettuces and other edible herbs look beautiful in the pots located on them, which can later be sown.

Looking at the photo of wooden arches for flowers that have a trellis shape (includes a couple of lattices at once), you can see how convenient they are for zoning the interior space of a summer cottage. With their help, you can also easily hide from the eyes of neighbors.

In creating cozy resting places, arches of these forms are also often used.

Trellised and vaulted arches are often used to support flowers at weddings. Ceremonies with the use of such designs as decorations are becoming increasingly popular. They look especially impressive against the backdrop of a beautiful back wall.

Self-made wooden arch

A wooden arch is not only easy to perform, but also more environmentally friendly than similar structures made from other materials.

In addition, if you plant perennials near the arch, then in winter such plants feel more comfortable on a tree, since it is warmer than, for example, metal.

Before you make an arch of flowers, you need to decide on its shape. The simplest in execution is a rectangular design. Then you need to purchase all the necessary materials.

These include wooden poles or beams about two meters high. The depth to which the supports will be buried is determined for each type of soil.

One thing remains unchanged - that part of the beam that will be in the ground must be treated with bitumen and wrapped with waterproofing. In order to fix the arch, its base is covered with rubble or concreted.

For the crossbars, you can take wooden slats of small width. They are nailed at an angle of 45 degrees, forming a grid, which subsequently will be a support for the flowers.

Another option would be to stretch the twine between the supports to create a single structure and in the future symmetrical placement of flowers on the arch.

Even a girl can create an elementary vaulted arch from hazel branches without outside help. To do this, it is enough to take its long flexible but strong shoots, bend them in the shape of an arch and dig into the ground.

Branches cut to the same length, tied to the frame with twine or wire, can also serve as crossbars.

The right selection of plants for arches

Decorating an arch with flowers is not an easy task. Perennial plants grow quite slowly.

It's not even bad if your arch has an attractive look. But surely everyone wants to see the structure completely wrapped in greenery already in the first year.

To correct the situation and correctly place the flowers for the arch in the garden, you can plant annual plants such as ornamental beans or sweet peas next to perennials.

In the first couple of years, this combination will help you quickly and fully green the arch.

In combination with young perennial flowers, houseplants that do well outdoors in the summer will look good on the arch.

The main thing is that there are drainage holes in the pots with such plants. Otherwise, you will have to make sure that a good layer of expanded clay is present at the bottom of the pots.

Photo arches for flowers

The territory of a summer cottage or garden plot can be used not only for growing various plants and decorative flowers. Thanks to modern decorative structures, it can also serve as a place of relaxation and simply be an aesthetically perfect area of your home. We are talking about garden arches for climbing plants, and other flowers. These are quite simple structures, which, nevertheless, perform a lot of functions. We will not only tell you which ones, but also teach you how to make arches for a summer house and a garden with your own hands according to our detailed instructions with a photo.

Garden arch: main types, construction features and functions performed

Garden arch is a decorative structure for garden plots. Most often, it is a simple structure of two vertical beams without a foundation and a horizontal crossbar of an arched or straight shape.

By itself, the arched structure is a fairly stable structure, which does not have a reinforced frame. Yes, this is not required, since the main function of the garden arch is to support a plant, flowers, or vine.

Although the construction of the arch does not require any complex technologies, nevertheless, some features must be taken into account:

  1. The design must be suitable for growing plants.
  2. The height of the arch should be from 2 meters, so that a person of average height can easily fit under it.
  3. The width of the arch should reach at least 1.2 m. This is necessary in case it is used as a support for the growth of climbing plants. If this parameter is not observed, then in the future the effect of neglect of the structure may be created.
  4. The frame must not only be durable, but also have an aesthetic appearance, so that in the absence of plants (in the cold season) it is also “pleasing to the eye”.
  5. Compliance of the selected type of construction with the general color of the garden plot.

Arched structures can be classified according to several criteria:

  • According to the material used for the manufacture of the structure: arches made of wood, plastic, metal, stone, combined.
  • According to the shape of the frame: arches; pergolas (three-dimensional structure consisting of similar elements fastened together); tapestries (vertically arranged lattices); complex structures.
  • By location: isolated structure; several arches; tapestry "wall"; gazebo-shaped structure.

A garden structure is not only a separate decorative element for a site, but also a way to complement an existing composition. In addition, the garden arch performs a number of important functions:

  1. Serves as a reliable support for plants.
  2. Helps to create an appropriate architectural style.
  3. Supports load-bearing poles.
  4. Effectively zones the garden plot.
  5. Serves as an excellent basis for a children's swing.
  6. Performs the function of lampposts or is a place for relaxation.

Creating a garden arch with your own hands

The construction of a garden arch is a fairly simple job, but, like any other, it requires careful preparation and high-quality execution.

Dimensioning the structure and choosing the right material

There are no strict restrictions and no standards other than those described above (the arch should be about 2 meters high and about 1.2 meters wide). The maximum allowable width, which does not violate the general proportions of the structure, can be about one and a half meters. This will be enough. As for the height: the higher the design, the less graceful it becomes. Most often, garden arches are made no more than 3 meters high.

After the dimensions of the structure are determined, you can proceed to the choice of material. So, metallic the garden arch is a durable construction, it is very easy to install and quite durable. But it has one significant drawback - susceptibility to corrosion.

As a material for wooden arches are suitable for both timber and raw wood. Such structures are less reliable than arches made of metal.

plastic the arch has a very attractive price, easy to assemble. She is not afraid of corrosion, moisture, deformation. And to model the structure, you only need a soldering iron.

Choosing and preparing a place for the arch

Now you should think about where to place the structure so that it decorates the site and at the same time does not violate the overall integrity of the existing picture. It can be a great entrance to the site or to the territory of the house. Try setting the arch over so that it becomes a kind of tunnel on the way from one part of the site to another (a pergola is perfect for this).

Advice. For a garden plot of a small area, bulky structures are not suitable, since they can simply visually reduce the territory. The way out in this situation will be a trellis, it will perfectly decorate the territory of the garden and at the same time it can be used as a gazebo by adding a small bench with soft pillows to the arch.

An existing one (for example, a concrete or tiled platform) can serve as a foundation for an arch; ordinary soil will not be the worst option. The most important thing is to prepare the basis for installing the arched structure. The working platform must be carefully removed, leveled (if we are talking about earthen cover), transfer the dimensions of the structure to the site and apply markings.

We mount a wooden arch

The wooden arch is mounted very simply. To do this, we need: a wooden beam about 4 cm thick (at least), glued wood about 10 cm, nails, gravel, glue.

Schematically, the order of work is as follows:

  1. We dig in the bars-racks in a pre-selected and prepared place.
  2. Crushed stone is poured into the base of wooden racks, and the wood remaining above the soil surface should preferably be treated with resin or burned.
  3. We fasten the upper parts of the racks with a crossbar in the shape of the letter P, we connect the sides with jumpers like ladders using screws.
  4. On top of the resulting structure, we mount an arcuate crossbar, which we fasten in the same way as the previous one.
  5. We cover the finished structure with a primer and paint with a special composition for wooden surfaces.
  6. The final touch remains - we decorate the arch with plants, flowers, etc.

We mount a metal arch

Consider, as an example, the process of creating a garden arch of a simple model: from two arc reinforcing bars interconnected by metal rings. We will need the following materials: reinforcing bars (at least 10 cm in diameter), primer, flexible wire, rope. So, schematically, the order of work is as follows:

  • To begin with, we will make an arched blank of reinforcement. You can use a simple template of metal pins a quarter of a meter long, driven into the ground along the desired contour.
  • Now let's start creating connecting rings for the already prepared reinforcement racks. We cut 9 pieces of reinforcement 90 cm long and bend them into rings using a pipe bender.

Advice. If you do not have a special tool for bending metal at hand, simplify your task: use straight pieces of reinforcing bars as fasteners for racks. This option looks somewhat simpler, but it is no less attractive and practical.

  • We deepen metal racks into the ground to a depth of at least 40 cm.
  • We fix the reinforcing rings-fasteners for the racks with the help of a flexible wire, having risen from the ground level by at least half a meter. We observe the distance between the rings within 20 cm. The structure thus obtained will be sufficiently strong and stable.
  • In order to protect the finished garden arch from corrosion, be sure to cover it with a primer and then a layer of oil paint. This completes the process of creating an arched structure.

In the process of reading this material, you could be convinced that the creation of a garden arch is a simple process that even non-professionals can do. Use the information received wisely and you can create a high-quality decorative structure for your garden with your own hands. Good luck!
