Frame decor: do-it-yourself secrets of magical transformation (50 photos). How to make a frame for a picture with your own hands? Picture frames - photo Homemade photo frames made of wood

Various frames are used to frame paintings, favorite photographs, children's crafts. You can buy them in the store, but they differ in standard sizes and appearance, and designer products have a high cost, which is not always justified. How to get out of this situation? It will take a little patience, the ability to work with simple carpentry tools. You can make a wooden frame with your own hands. If you have experience, you can create a real work of art on your own by decorating products with original carvings.

For a photo of a custom size, you can make a wooden frame yourself.

How to make such a frame with your own hands? There is nothing complicated about this, wooden slats or plywood are used as the main material, patterns can be cut with a jigsaw. Before work, you should take measurements, think over design options.

To make a frame with your own hands from wood, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

Sawing wooden blocks at an angle of 45 ° occurs with the help of a special tool.

  • wooden slats of the required length and thickness (if a carved frame is to be made, then a plywood sheet can be used for this);
  • a sheet of thick cardboard;
  • acrylic paints, topcoat varnish;
  • a set of brushes for decoration;
  • jigsaw with a set of files;
  • nails;
  • hook or metal loop;
  • Sander;
  • sandpaper.

Wooden frame with passe-partout

Any tree is used for a frame with a passe-partout. The product is made in the following sequence:

With the help of cutters, you can make different patterns.

  1. First, the dimensions are measured with a ruler. If the edges of a photo or painting are a little worn, it is best to trim them slightly.
  2. On thick cardboard, the position of the photograph is marked with a pencil. After marking, the resulting rectangle is carefully cut out. It is allowed to use scissors, a special clerical knife with replaceable blades. A special cutter designed to work with a passe-partout is best suited.
  3. With a jigsaw, 4 elements are cut out for the future frame. End internal corners are made at an inclination of 45 degrees. It is necessary to provide that the edges are even and smooth, otherwise, when gluing, a high-quality connection will not work.
  4. A small amount of wood glue is carefully applied to the ends, the elements are connected together, clamped with clamps.
  5. For the frame, you can use glass, which will protect the photo or picture from damage. Glass can be cut independently, for convenience, a glass cutter is used. You can order from a specialist not just smooth glass, but already decorated glass. This frame will become even more attractive and stylish.
  6. To install glass, special grooves are made on the reverse side of the profile. The grooves are marked to a depth equal to the thickness of the glass.
  7. On the front side of the product, you can provide original decoration. There are many options, if you wish, you can dream up. The frame can be painted, gilded or varnished. The easiest option is to varnish the wood. To do this, first polish the surface, remove all dust. After that, the wood is carefully varnished with a brush. You can use both transparent mixtures and those with any shade.
  8. When everything is ready, you can start assembling the frame. If the product is dry, it must be carefully laid face down. After that, glass is laid on top, a passe-partout (it should fit snugly against the tree). A photograph or a picture is attached to the back of the passe-partout, a second piece of thick cardboard, thin plywood, a piece of fiberboard are used to fasten the wrong side. The back is attached to the product with small galvanized nails. It is necessary to ensure that the carnations do not break through the frame. From the top you need to fasten a loop or hook. If the frame will be used for a shelf or table, then instead of an eyelet, it is best to provide a special stand.

Varieties of baguettes for paintings

After all the details are ready, they are glued with PVA glue.

Today you can make baguettes for photographs and paintings with your own hands. The most popular material for the implementation of ideas is wood, you can make frames from plastic, metal. Wood is the most expensive material, but at the same time the highest quality, durable and beautiful. A real baguette of the classic type is made only from wood. It can be done in a modern minimalist style or more artsy with intricate carvings that are great for an old renaissance painting.

The wooden frame is a universal option, it can be used in any interior.. It is best to take hardwood, tropical, coniferous wood. The ideal option is pine, ramin, exotic ayos. The wood must be dense, not form cracks and chips during processing.

Wood must be selected such that it does not absorb moisture, is not subjected to temperature effects, and is durable.

From wood, you can make a profile of the usual classic, reverse, flat, office. The surface of the frame can be varnished or painted, you can use special oils, silver, gold plating.

After the frame is ready, it needs to be decorated, this can be done by painting it with acrylic, or sticking beads or shells on it, gilding or aging it.

Aluminum is a cheaper option for making frames, but there are certain limitations. Such metal products are not decorated as richly as wooden ones, design options are limited. Stucco molding and other decorative types of ornaments for metal frames are not used. Usually they are simply painted or varnished, pasted over with special films. Aluminum baguettes are not always suitable for home use, they are usually used in office premises.

An aluminum baguette is great if you need to decorate posters, large photographs, diplomas, posters, graphic images. The advantages of aluminum frames are as follows:

  • high quality and strength of the frame;
  • low profile weight;
  • the possibility of using special paints that literally impregnate the material.

Plastic baguette for the interior

Plastic baguettes are sold by the meter, they only need to be cut and glued.

Plastic frames are not only of high quality, but also cheap. From such material, you can create an imitation of a wooden frame, but the cost and weight will be much less.

You can use plastic baguettes (most often made of PVC) for mirrors, photographs, modern painting, and children's crafts.

The assembly process is simple, in many specialized stores you can buy ready-made plastic profiles for making beautiful and durable frames.

Is a wooden, plastic or metal frame better? It is unequivocally difficult to answer this question, since they all differ in their advantages. But working with a tree is much easier, and the result is more attractive. The manufacturing process is not difficult, you just need to be careful and patient - the result will be amazing.

Nowadays, hand-made interior items are in great demand. There are many shops selling goods of this category. Handmade products look original, the authors invest not only imagination and skills, but also a piece of their soul. Yes, and it's nice to have in the house not standard products from consumer goods, but an individual product, which is in a single copy. However, for such products you will have to pay a tidy sum, since authorship is valued dearly. It will be much cheaper if you show creativity, imagination and realize your vision of a household item, for example: photo frames, paintings, wooden mirrors.

creative plans

Before you start any work, you always need to draw up an approximate plan of action, prepare materials and an object that you want to frame. The finished product should organically fit into the interior of the room, whether it is an office or a residential apartment. The frame cannot but correspond to the style of the general interior. Also, the materials from which the frames are made vary greatly in texture, quality, and color. The wooden frame itself can be in a simple style, or maybe with a beautiful openwork carving.

Even a simple, even frame made of wood is complemented by design elements that will give it a special style and originality. You also need to decide what exactly to focus on in the work. If the main thing in the project is the design of an already finished frame, then it can be purchased at the store, and at home transformed into a masterpiece. If the frame itself becomes the object of creativity, then it is better to make it yourself.

Material selection

In order to make a frame with your own hands from wood, the necessary wood is selected. Basically, you need to look at the pattern and structure of the tree, since, in principle, any breed is suitable for this. If the frame is then painted, then the simplest one is chosen - pine or spruce. If the structure of the tree is visible and the product is subsequently varnished or stained, then you need to take wood with the original pattern. Walnut, ash, cherry, linden look very nice.

Beautiful do-it-yourself picture frames made of wood are created when they are carved (floral, plot or simple ornament). For carving, softer wood is taken, especially if the carver is a beginner. A professional, of course, will make a pattern on an oak board, but for a beginner it will be difficult, since oak is considered a very hard wood. You will also have to buy a set of cutters of different sizes.

Another option for making a frame with your own hands from wood is a simple wooden product, which is decorated on top with improvised materials. Picture frames decorated with something unusual are now fashionable. These can be pieces of bark, pencils, shells, buttons and other junk material.

Making a frame with your own hands from wood

Before you make a picture frame out of wood, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • plywood or fiberboard;
  • wooden slats, plinth or baguette;
  • hand saw or jigsaw;
  • miter box;
  • construction stapler;

  • PVA glue;
  • acrylic varnish or paint, brushes;
  • stain (if necessary);
  • a plastic or metal loop;
  • nails or screws;
  • hammer or screwdriver (in extreme cases - a screwdriver);
  • corner clamps;
  • sandpaper.

When planning to glue a picture frame with something (it’s easy to make it out of wood with your own hands), prepare the material that is needed for this. You can lay out the necessary pattern on the table in advance in order to understand how it will look.

Step-by-step instruction

The first step is to measure the size of the picture and cut out a square or rectangle from plywood or fiberboard. Its size should be larger than the picture by the width of the wooden lath. After attaching a picture or photograph to plywood, outline it with a pencil so as not to stain the object during work. After that, the picture can be put aside until the end of the work.

The second step in making a frame with your own hands from wood will be cutting the rails at an angle of 45 degrees. To do this, you need a saw and a miter box. A rail or block of wood is inserted into the miter box and sawn off along the line. Then we repeat the procedure with another bar. We combine the corners of two pieces of wood, you should get a right angle of 90 degrees. We apply this corner to the plywood and mark the length of the other sides. After that, according to the marked marks, we make cuts of the other two corners. We attach the assembled frame to plywood and check its size. If everything is clearly aligned, you can proceed to the next step.

The ends of the rails, cut at 45 degrees, are smeared with PVA glue and tightly pulled together, left alone until completely glued (approximately 2 hours). After that, for better bonding, connect the corners of the rails with staples using a construction stapler.

Wooden frame assembly

The last step in the manufacture of the frame will be the fastening of the parts together. There is a small nuance here. If you attach a picture or photograph forever, then it can be glued to plywood. Then everything is much easier. The finished frame just needs to be nailed to the plywood or screwed with small screws. If the photo is inserted, then you will have to work harder.

In order for the photo to be freely inserted into the frame, it is necessary to leave a gap between the frame and the photo. In a purchased frame, wooden slats are processed on a milling machine and a step is made for insertion. At home, not everyone has a router, so you need to do it differently. Between the frame and plywood, make an additional layer, for example, from thick cardboard. Strips are cut to size, corresponding to the width of the frame, and glued around the perimeter of the plywood on three sides. You don't need to do it from above. A picture or photograph will be inserted into that slot.

Then clean the surface with sandpaper and cover with a layer of varnish or paint. After drying, repeat the cleaning procedure and cover with another layer. Let dry. Acrylic varnish dries quickly and almost does not emit unpleasant odors.

A do-it-yourself frame for a picture is made of wood for a short time. It remains only to attach a loop and hang it on the wall. The only thing that can be advised is to laminate the photo so that you can periodically wipe the dust without damaging the photo itself.

Variety of materials

You can create frames with your own hands from wood and metal, baguettes and plastic, polyurethane baseboards and simple branches. Now there is such a free approach to the choice of materials that you can realize any flight of fancy. Frames are roughly knocked down with large nails, tied together from randomly sized branches, burned with a blowtorch, peeled off with a stiff brush. Everyone has their own approach. Whoever thinks, then embodies in his work. Nowadays, there are so many different materials and examples of other designers that you can choose the one that suits you by looking at the photos.

Designer mirror frame

You can make frames not only from slats or bars. Consider several options for unusual frames. For example, how to make a wooden mirror frame with your own hands using small twigs? We take plywood for this and cut out a figure several centimeters larger in diameter than a mirror.

If, for example, it is round, then a larger circle is drawn, etc. Then the mirror itself is glued onto liquid nails in the center of the plywood circle. A strip of plywood remains along the edges, which we will decorate. To do this, take glue for the tree and, in turn, smear each branch with glue and put it in a circle with the end in the middle. The work is meticulous and long, but it will turn out to be a completely original thing.

Twig frame

Consider another example of an originally made photo frame. Everyone can make it with their own hands from wood. A photograph is glued onto a sheet of plywood and a few centimeters of margin are left to the edges to decorate the frame. Branches of the same or different lengths are collected, thoroughly dried and treated with an antiseptic.

After that, you can cover them with acrylic varnish, or you can leave them intact. A beautiful twine is taken, four bunches are made from an equal number of branches. The bundles are tightly connected to each other. It turns out a frame of twigs, which is then glued to the free part of the plywood sheet.

Come up with your own version, create, search, try, and everything will work out! Good luck!

A universal selection of gift ideas for every occasion and occasion. Surprise your friends and loved ones! ;)

Greetings to all gathered on the blog! Many of us love to give gifts (I think you, too). But ordinary gifts quickly get bored and you want something warmer, sincere, attractive. One of these gifts are do-it-yourself photo frames, which we will make in large quantities today.

I decided to write this post because I made my first soft photo frame a long time ago, and just recently I repeated the experiment and I was more than pleased with the result. Today I will share with you the secrets of creating it, and also show you what other types of photo frames you can make yourself using improvised materials.

How to make photo frames with your own hands: master classes

Children's photo frame "Totoro" ("Photo Frame")

Let's start with a cute children's photo frame inspired by the wonderful anime "My Neighbor Totoro" (if you haven't watched it, be sure to check it out, you won't regret it).

You will need:

  • soft stretchy fabric (fleece (example - green fabric in the photo), minky fleece, velsoft, tight knitwear, etc.)
  • thin fabric for the heel (cotton, fleece, etc.)
  • synthetic winterizer (cloth)
  • plastic base (from under equipment, sweets, etc.)
  • threads, needles, scissors, accessories for decoration.

There should be enough plastic base to make three parts the size of the desired photo frame.

First of all, you will need to cut out the plastic base (round, square, triangular - whichever you like best) similarly to that shown in the photo. In this case, it's a flat donut. Cut out several details from the synthetic winterizer of the same shape. I will show a master class on the example of a circle.

You will also need 1 more piece of soft, stretchy fabric, but with large seam allowances.

Attention! Do not save fabric on allowances, they should be about 2/3 from the width of the ring so that the fabric is evenly distributed at the back.

We immediately proceed to the most important part - stitching the front. To do this, make small cuts on the inside of the circle (near the allowances) and sew the edges, pulling them with threads to each other as close as possible. (Specially chose a contrasting thread color to make it noticeable).

Advice. If you have chosen a rectangular shape, then you are unlikely to need incisions, you can try to make them without them.

This is what the ring looks like from the front. If desired, you can hide the seams at the back with a thin fabric overlay (I'll show you how to do this a little further).

Set the ring aside. Cut out two circles from thin fabric and plastic (one is not needed yet). Make fabric circles a millimeter or two larger than plastic ones.

Sew the fabric circles, leaving room to turn inside out and insert the plastic base.

After sewing, turn the fabric part inside out, insert a plastic circle there and sew the remaining hole.

We received the back of the photo frame.

If desired, sew a loop of thread or ribbon into it so that you can hang the photo frame on the wall.

This is how I camouflaged the back of the fluffy bagel. To do this, I cut out the same element from a thin fabric as from a stretch one, but now I made the seam allowance smaller and hid it inside, sewing the masking with a blind seam. Sew the back with the same seam.

Sew the back so that in the future you can insert the last circle of plastic and a photo from above.

Try to make small stitches so that they are not noticeable after stitching the parts.

Now insert the plastic circle into the photo frame.

Ready! It remains only to insert a beautiful photo and add decor)

In my case, this is a themed nigella made of wool, with felt leaves sewn on. Photo corresponding You can see the work in more detail in this section (in the "Souvenirs" tab).

Great minky fleece you can buy in this store. In our woven stores, I have not seen this, and if you want to make a thing no worse than a purchased one, then this particular material will be very useful to you (the seller is verified, I ordered from him more than once).

DIY photo frames made of cardboard and paper

The method described above is far from the easiest of the possible methods for creating a photo frame. Now you will be convinced of this

Photo frame made of... box lids

In fact, regular cardboard can also be used if it is folded into the shape of such a lid. As you can see, the creation process is simple: just take the lid and cover it with pretty scrapbooking paper.

It is convenient to fasten such frames together, as a result of which a whole set is formed. They can be glued together to get a panel. It turns out a great option for both children and adults.

Cardboard and clothespins

It is these two elements that will be needed for the next type of photo frame. Cut out a circle similar to what we did in the first master class and glue clothespins around it. We get a simple frame for several photos.

Using fabric and thread

In continuation of the first master class. Here I have included all those frames that can be knitted or sewn (in a pinch, use ideas for decoration).

knitted

A cute idea for a photo frame in the form of a flower, and it’s convenient to make such frames for several photos at once. The photo can simply be glued on the back, covering it with some dense material.

From threads

Everything is simpler here: take a frame, threads and glue and wrap the first one, fixing it along the way. Thus, it is easy to turn even very large frames into a work of art.

Shabby chic style

It is very similar in the way of creation to the very first one, with the exception of a couple of differences: here pressed cardboard is taken as the basis (I think you can also take a ready-made frame of a simple shape) and this souvenir has a leg, not a loop mount.

Felt

Take a simple wooden frame as a base and decorate it with felt flowers. By the way, about creating flowers (including from ribbons and paper), you can read other articles on my blog.

From improvised materials or how to decorate a photo frame

walnut

An interesting idea is to use a pecan (if I call it correctly) for finishing. In our area, it is quite possible to replace ordinary walnuts.

Traffic jam!

For the next two types, you will need a lot of wine bottle caps. In the first case, it is proposed to prime a simple wooden photo frame, and then cut floral patterns from corks.

But in the torus, everything is much simpler - you just need to glue the corks along the edge. A great option for a present, say, to dad on February 23.

Polymer clay and little things

Are you good at sculpting with polymer clay? Or just a lot of beads, buttons, etc. accumulated at home? Then feel free to use them - stick to a frame of a simple shape.

The same applies to stones, shells, etc.

nature style

Roughly speaking, to make this beautiful frame, you will need one long log. It is quite possible to build one at home if you dry the piece of wood properly beforehand.

Ice cream sticks

The hardest part is keeping them together. You can do this with glue, thread, or a dense base.

Gypsum castings

Find a suitable mold and plaster. Somehow, my brother experimented with a plaster panel - it turned out quite well, but it stood for a long time.

From thermobeads

I don’t know exactly their scientific name, but if you put them on a special surface and then iron them, you get a dense canvas. You can see an example of a funny frame made in this way below.

On this, dear friends, I finish this great review of various kinds of photo frames. I think you found what you were looking for, if not, write in the comments. And share with your friends not only cool handmade gifts, but also useful information using the social network buttons. Goodbye!

Sincerely, Anastasia Skoreva
