Do-it-yourself sliding wardrobe on the balcony. Stages of making a wardrobe for a balcony with your own hands, everything is in detail. How beautiful to make your own corner cabinet

It is necessary to have a kind of storage “for any junk” in the apartment. This is not a debatable issue. But in the mezzanine, if there is one, because of its modest size, much will not fit. Yes, and in the garage, albeit located next to the house, you don’t run into every little thing. It is somehow customary for us to use a balcony as a mini-warehouse - it is convenient and not expensive. But in order not to turn it into a banal dump, installing a closet on it is a completely rational solution to the problem.

Buying is not a fact that it will be possible to find a suitable size. Order - will be quite expensive; In addition, the finished product may not be to your liking. For someone who knows how to hold a hacksaw, a hammer in his hand and use household tools, the best option is to make a closet on a balcony or loggia with your own hands. There is nothing difficult in this. And if everything is carefully thought out and "put your soul" into the work, it will turn out cheap and beautiful.

If the balcony is “open”, then it is hardly worth making a wardrobe on it without preliminary glazing. Someone may have a different opinion, but the author considers it necessary to express his own.

Firstly, the influence of the atmosphere (changes in temperature, humidity), direct contact with water (precipitation) and ultraviolet light will lead to structural changes in wood. Simply put - the cabinet will “lead” pretty soon. As a result - problems with drawers, skewed doors and a number of others.

Secondly, in such conditions, what will be in the closet will not last long. The fabric will rot, the metal will rust. Consequently, such storage loses its meaning - it is easier to immediately landfill.

Thirdly, on an unglazed balcony, the cabinet is unlikely to look spectacular from the outside, especially since its rear part (rear wall) cannot be constantly put in order without disassembling the structure.

Scheme

Before proceeding with the presentation of instructions for making a cabinet, you should figure out which options you can implement with your own hands. Given that the home master is not a professional in this matter, but the tool is only household. And already based on the chosen model, focusing on the dimensions of the balcony, it is easy to determine the dimensions of the "furniture".

Model sectional composite. How many compartments there will be depends on their desired capacity and dimensions of the future cabinet. This option makes it possible to combine with the cell sizes in each pencil case.

For example, if you don’t fill a long one with anything at all (leave it empty), then for the summer you can put children’s sleds, clubs and other sports equipment into it. And for the winter - a bicycle. A good solution, and you don’t have to constantly stumble over all this in a narrow apartment hallway.

Built-in model from several sections. It is advisable to mount such a cabinet even in the process of finishing the balcony. Many of its structural elements are common with the supporting frame for paneling.

For example, the same racks that are also battens of the crate. Well, how to divide it into compartments is easy to solve. Or as indicated above, or choose your own, more original version.

Pencil case. As a rule, it is this design that is most often chosen for typical balconies that do not differ in large sizes. The easiest cabinet option to manufacture, but from a practical point of view, no less convenient.

You can also experiment here. For example, divide the cabinet into levels, and install shelves in each compartment so that you get “cells” of different capacities - for overall things, jars of pickles / jams, some household (household) stuff and so on. The specific solution will prompt your own imagination.

Corner cabinet. This pantry option has its advantages. The main one is that its rear walls, by definition, already exist. It is only necessary to properly finish the masonry (or slab) and the fence between adjacent balconies.

As an option - a modification of the wardrobe, angular, in which the door leafs are easily moved apart. But making it is much more difficult.

There are enough models of cabinets on the balcony, besides, these are just tips. The main thing is that there is something to focus on, and coming up with your own scheme, determining the required dimensions of all structural elements is not so difficult. In principle, for storing property that is not constantly needed in the apartment, shelves, racks, and so on are also suitable. The fact that it will turn out cheap is undoubted, but whether it’s beautiful or not, opinions differ here.

Examples of drawings and sketches of cabinets that can be placed on a typical balcony will help in self-design.

It is worth dwelling on such a nuance as to what the cabinet should be - stationary or mobile (mobile). With your own hands, the first option is much easier to do. And there is not so much free space on the balcony to regularly rearrange the furniture on it. Therefore, it is advisable to mount a rigidly fixed structure.

Cabinet dimensions

Beam for racks

A section of 4 x 4 is enough. Recommendations for using a metal profile (although it is easier to work with it) are not entirely correct. A balcony, even a well-insulated one, is, first of all, dampness and temperature changes. Therefore, all materials must be selected according to the coefficient of expansion. The combination of wood + metal in a balcony is not the best solution. Such a design will definitely “lead”.

Material selection

The question is no less important. Firstly, not every wood or sample based on it (sheet, slab) is easy to cut and process with your own hands. Secondly, the durability of the cabinet is also important, since not every material has a long service life when used in such conditions. For a balcony, you will have to select the most suitable ones.

Unfortunately, all recommendations miss one point. It refers to the weight of the cabinet. Few people will argue with the fact that as soon as the structure is fully assembled and lined, it will be filled almost to the top in a matter of days (if not hours). For the loggia, this may not be so important. And in relation to the balcony, which differs in that its plate has only one "point" of support (along the line along the wall), it is more than relevant. Whether the balcony can withstand such a load (glazing + decoration + wardrobe with all contents) is a big question. Especially if the house has been standing for more than a dozen years.

In this regard, it is worth thinking about acceptable materials for the cabinet. If we focus on the maximum possible reduction in the weight of the structure, then it is advisable to dwell on the combined version. For example, supporting elements (racks) made of solid wood; shelves, canister doors - from. It's up to you, reader, but you should consider.

Plywood

Based on the fact that it turned out a lot, and the samples need to be taken in the “moisture resistant” category, the choice is small - FC or FSF. Since the closet will be on the balcony, there is no fundamental difference - this can already be considered outdoor work. For information, FK plywood is more “environmentally friendly”, since there are practically no toxic components in the glue used in the production. And if you purchase some of the sheets with lamination (more expensive, but not much), then you won’t have to deal with the exterior finish of the cabinet.

Plates

For sashes, it is not advisable to use them due to the mass of the products. But for shelves, drawer bottoms, cabinet walls, the option is not bad. From the point of view of service life on the balcony, the optimal solution is OSV boards. They are easy to cut with your own hands, and they are less susceptible to atmospheric factors.

Plastic

These panels have a significant limitation in use due to low strength. Only as an external finish for a closet on a balcony; for anything else (shelves and so on) they will not work.

Wood

Coniferous. It is preferable to hardwood for a balcony. There are enough pluses - the soft structure facilitates the independent processing of lumber, and the presence of resins protects against decay. And the price is lower, which means that it will come out cheaper with your own hands. But there is also a disadvantage that must be taken into account. When heated, conifers tar. Therefore, it is impossible to leave such a cabinet in a “clean” form - only finish it. Applying varnishes, impregnations, oils, and so on will not save the closet on the balcony from resin emissions.

Deciduous species. If the external design of the cabinet is supposed to be done only by coating it with stain and varnish, then it is better to choose this wood. But in most cases, such rocks are denser, and it is more difficult to handle them with your own hands. From the point of view of "cheap" you can focus on linden, aspen, alder. Such a tree is recommended to be used for cladding rooms in baths. Therefore, it will fit for a closet on the balcony.

When choosing bars, it is undesirable to save. It is better to purchase lumber at a higher price, but even. The use of a "slab" will eventually create so many problems (for example, when installing sashes, cladding) that its cheapness will result in additional costs and loss of time.

What not to buy. In principle, the list of materials that are not suitable for making a wardrobe on the balcony, although they are often used for furniture in an apartment, is relatively small.

  • GKL. Any kind of drywall is gradually saturated with moisture. Even for jumpers or sheathing - not an option.
  • Chipboard. Fasteners will not hold securely in such material. Consequently, after a short time the cabinet will warp, the doors will start to fall off and the like.

Selection of fasteners and accessories

The main question is how to fix the details. The fact that the structural elements will have to be reinforced with brackets (plates, corners) is one thing. But what hardware to use?

Nails - since the wood is mounted only dried, they can easily split the workpiece. In addition, the maintainability of the design is highly questionable. But the upside is that the nails won't interfere with the wood when it starts to "play" a little. And on the balcony, this is exactly what will happen - changes in humidity, temperature will have their effect. Self-tapping screws - only for wood. If necessary, it is easy to dismantle, replace a rotten part. In addition, fixation is provided "tightly". Here you should focus on the type of wood. If it is soft, then this solution is better. For dense wood - nails, with pre-drilling of the landing channels.

Everything else is at your own discretion (baskets, hangers, handles, decorative strips, etc.).

Wood processing issues are a separate issue. Read in detail the list of drugs to protect it from "enemies" and their approximate cost.

Instructions for making a cabinet

It is probably more correct to deal with some of the nuances, since the list of technological operations and their alternation largely depend on the chosen option for balcony furniture.

Site preparation

In the area where it is planned to place the cabinet, if the balcony has not yet been finished from the inside, it is necessary to clean all surfaces (wall, stove) with high quality and inspect. Pay special attention to mold and mildew. If there are any signs of them, you should start processing this segment. Otherwise, they will safely move to wood with all the consequences. Significant defects (cracks, crevices, chips) are eliminated immediately, using a mortar or putty composition.

markup

Having a hand-drawn drawing, or at least a sketch of a cabinet, this is easy to do. First of all, the places for attaching the racks are outlined. Everything else depends on how well the frame is located and assembled on the balcony.

It is advisable to immediately decide on the "pedestal". Installing a cabinet on a bare stove is undesirable. The reason is the same - dampness. A good option is to lay a piece of p / e film (or linoleum remaining after repair), and on top - a fragment of the OSV plate. It practically does not absorb moisture, and the strength is sufficient to withstand the weight of the cabinet along with the contents.

We should not forget about the ceiling. If a cabinet scheme is chosen for the entire height of the balcony, then it is desirable to fix the upper ends of the racks on the slab. On it, the crossbars of the frame are also “fastened”. In this case, the markup is from top to bottom. That is, first fixation points are determined on the slab above the balcony, and then they are projected onto its floor with the help of a plumb line.

What to consider:

  • After marking is completed, it is advisable to check all the same type lines on different surfaces for matches in size. Some deviations in the line drawing are inevitable, and therefore everything should be corrected. Otherwise, the correct cabinet geometry cannot be achieved.
  • If the rear wall as such is not provided (it will come out cheaper), then it is desirable to correlate the location of the frame rails with the shelves. Here on them the last and fasten. This is more convenient than later specifically stuffing additional bars.

Making cabinet racks

Here it is short - at first only one is needed. After checking it in place, it can serve as a model by which the rest are made. The argument is simple - it's better to ruin one if something is wrong than to redo everything later and spend lumber. After they are fully fitted, processed, they can be fixed in place.

Installation of horizontal rails

All the same. But how best to make connections, it's worth figuring out. In this case, the traditional "furniture" technology (thorn groove or notch) is hardly suitable. It is enough to fix the jumpers on the wall, and additionally fasten them to the racks with metal elements. The same corner. It is much easier to do it yourself.

Shelf manufacturing

From the point of view of expediency, it is desirable to make them removable. In this case, the cabinet on the balcony will be universal, since, if necessary, the dimensions of the compartments inside it can be easily changed. It is enough to either simply remove one of the shelves, or reinstall it. But for this, additional guides (supports) should immediately be provided.

Ways of fastening door leaves, external design of the cabinet - all this is determined independently. By the way, the order of its assembly on the balcony is the same. Having a drawing in hand, installation is not difficult. The main recommendations are outlined, examples of cabinets are given. Everything else is up to you, reader. Watch, think, evaluate and decide.

Good luck in arranging the balcony, home masters!

According to an old tradition, things that could not be found in the apartment are stored on the balcony and loggia. And so that these small-sized rooms do not turn into a dump, a good storage system is needed. The most practical option is a built-in wardrobe on a balcony or loggia. Often all that is required is to make construction sites on which shelves will be held and put doors. With such a task, you can easily cope with your own hands, even with a minimum of skills.

Materials and designs

The design of the built-in wardrobe can be divided into two parts: a frame and doors. Sometimes, if a side stand is needed, there is also a sheathing.

What is the frame made of

Racks for the cabinet are most often made of timber. Section approximately 40*40 mm or 50*50 mm. The option is not bad, but there can be high humidity on an unheated balcony. And wood is a material that changes size depending on humidity. There is one more point: timber is not cheap in all regions.

For the frame, mainly two materials are used: a wooden beam and a metal profile.

There is another option - to assemble a frame on a drywall profile. Any sheet material such as chipboard, plywood, etc. is perfectly attached to it. If you take galvanized, then no problems with humidity are terrible.

What to make shelves

The easiest way is to cut the shelves to size from sheet material. This is still the same chipboard - plain or laminated, thick plywood, sometimes OSB can be used, but shelves for weights should be desired on a wooden frame.

You can mount them on the places prepared on the frame - installed bars or on self-tapping screws. There is an option - corners directly to the wall. But it is good if the walls can be drilled with self-tapping screws right away, otherwise it will take too long to put each shelf on the dowels. Then it is easier to assemble the frame and attach it to it.

Attaching shelves to corners

There is an even easier way to make shelves on a balcony or loggia: use metal rails and brackets for them. These systems are used in stores, but for this case they are more than convenient: the height changes easily with a fairly small step. Just hang the brackets on other holes.

Convenient system for shelves on the balcony

With such an organization, all that is needed is to put doors. So the closet is ready on the loggia or balcony.

By the way, you can do something similar from wooden bars: recesses for shelves with a certain step. You can make cuts with a saw, and then remove with a chisel.

An example of shelves for a wardrobe on a balcony with adjustable height

Often shelves are made from cut pieces of boards. Since the width of the balcony is usually small, all sorts of trimmings come into play. Only in order for them not to lose their appearance for a long time and to be easily wiped off, they need to be covered with something. And although the glazed balcony and loggia are more related to interior spaces, take paint and varnish products for outdoor work, as well as protective impregnations. They contain substances that protect against ultraviolet radiation. Without them, in a couple of years, the wood will look miserable.

Shelves from boards on the balcony are most often done

So that when working in the apartment it doesn’t “smell” too much, you can take a water-based varnish. It does not create a film, but dirt is not absorbed into the surface.

What are the doors

Three types of doors are made in a closet on a loggia or balcony:

  • ordinary swing;
  • sliding - by the type of wardrobe;
  • roller shutters.

All these doors can be the entire height of the cabinet, but it is more convenient to divide it into two or three parts, and hang your own doors on each.

Doors can be hinged

The most inexpensive are swing doors. You need the doors and hinges themselves, and it’s easy to “put” them in place on your own. Sliding systems are more expensive. We need guides - top, bottom and side, as well as a system of rollers that is installed on the door leaf. But this option is attractive because it saves space.

Sliding doors and shutters

The most expensive are roller shutters. But they are attractive because they come as a ready-made kit, and the installation is basically "attached" to the purchase.

Watch the video on how to assemble sliding doors for a balcony cabinet. Much will become clear.

How to make a balcony cabinet on a wooden frame

First, cut 4 racks to the desired height of the cabinet. If you plan to make it to the very ceiling, measure each one separately, and do not cut the same ones. The height is often quite different. The cut racks are attached. The distance between them determines the depth of the cabinet, but most often depends on the available space. How much is, so much is used.

If there are three blank walls, there is no problem. The bars are attached to dowels. They put the bar against the wall, check its verticality, drill through holes for fasteners in the right places. The bar is removed, plastic plugs from dowels are inserted into the holes in the wall. After setting the bar in place, screw it to the wall with screws.

Rack mounting examples

If you make a closet on the balcony, one side is attached to the wall, and the second - to the frame elements or only at the top and bottom - to the ceiling and floor (we use reinforced metal corners).

Another option for such a case - if you need to close the window glass with something - put a wall near the window (for example, from chipboard), fix it at the bottom and top with corners to the floor and ceiling, and then attach it to the wall (and to the flow and floor) frame bars.

Place a chipboard sideboard near the glass, and attach shelves to it

Then transverse bars are nailed to the racks. They give the whole system a high degree of rigidity and the shelves will rest on them.

Option with the removal of shelves to the glass

Knot larger

In order not to “walk” a place near the glass, this part is also occupied by shelves. Since the width of the furniture is different, they often make two separate small cabinets: on the lower and on the upper halves. Often they also differ in depth: the bottom one can be made wider and more heavy and bulky things can be hidden there. The upper cabinet in this case can be made less deep. In this case, the top of the lower cabinet can be used as a countertop.

Can be made from two parts of different widths and depths

Corner wardrobe on the loggia: photo report

At first, the loggia was lined with clapboard. Immediately after that, a cabinet was made from the same lining. It was decided to want a corner, so as not to close the window so much. On the opposite side, the closet occupies almost the entire width, slightly short of the balcony door.

Racks were not attached. They nailed the bars on the ceiling and to the floor, to them the walls. They turned out to be short - three planks. Planks were nailed to the lining of the walls, on which the same lining, cut out according to the resulting cabinet shape, was laid.

Stages of construction of a corner cabinet from lining

At the top and bottom of the doorway, a clapboard was stuffed across the opening. We measured the remaining distance, subtracted 1.5 centimeters for inaccuracies, and cut the lining on the door of this length. They needed six. Shot down with the help of four cross bars shot down in the door. Hung using regular hinges.

The doors were hung, shelves were made at the bottom

In the free space between the cabinet wall and the balcony sheathing, two shelves are nailed. A little later, they added a little higher with rounded edges. At the last stage, they nailed the plinth under the ceiling and on the floor (to close the cracks), then they polished the lining with sandpaper and painted it with wood stain.

Drawings and diagrams

It is impossible to talk about any standards regarding wardrobes for balconies. And the size and configuration, and the glazing is different for everyone. Therefore, even with the size of the shelves, it is necessary to determine “in place”. But here are a few examples that you can change as you need.

Most often, a whole lot of items, necessary things are stored on the balcony. In order to make the most optimal use of space, it is worth installing a wardrobe on the balcony.

Such a solution will help to use the space in a practical way, free from unnecessary workload.

In order to figure out how to choose the right cabinet, read the selection criteria and recommendations.

Criterias of choice

They are essential when buying, because not every model is suitable in size, or service life. So, important selection criteria.

The size

With a small balcony, the wardrobe should be selected in accordance with this. Measure the height and width in advance so as not to miscalculate. Thanks to timely measurements, you will save yourself not only time, nerves, but also money.

Consider protruding window sills. This will help to competently approach the issue of installation and placement of the cabinet. Just a few millimeters can play a trick on you.

A corner cabinet for a balcony is a great option for placing a cabinet in the corner. Thus, it will take up part of the space, compactly fit all the necessary items.

Term of use

The temperature regime of the balcony is different than the apartment. Therefore, due to weather changes, furniture suffers. Therefore, it is so important to take this fact into account when choosing.

Depending on your location, the weather that is typical for the region, they choose such a built-in wardrobe on the balcony that will withstand temperature fluctuations and instability. The material must be well tolerated by moisture.

materials

For the manufacture of suitable wooden materials, MDF, chipboard. These are quite popular materials in the manufacture of furniture.

Before buying directly, pay attention to the properties of the material, its resistance to high moisture and low temperature conditions.

Note! A properly selected item, as seen in the photo of the wardrobe on the balcony, will not only become a place for compact and functional arrangement of things, but also decorate the space, become an interesting interior decoration.

DIY wardrobe

If you have ever thought about how to make a closet on the balcony, then you should familiarize yourself with the following points.

If you have the necessary amount of material and basic skills, you can easily do it yourself without the help of specialists.

It is also worth saying that buying separate materials for the manufacture of a beautiful wardrobe on the balcony, you will save a lot of money.

Think over a sketch of future furniture in advance. Consider the dimensions, weight that will fall on the cabinet.

Having selected all the necessary materials and tools, proceed with the assembly. For this process, you will need nails, or screws.

The first option is quite convenient when disassembling the structure, accessible to everyone. The second one is more aesthetically pleasing, but they require special tools to use.

If it's easy for you to create a blueprint and then do a good job, then you can certainly do it.

If you are doing this for the first time, it is better to ask for help, or still buy a ready-made wardrobe for the balcony.

The positive side of the choice

There are several positive aspects of choosing a cabinet:

  • you save space. After all, the design of the cabinet itself implies a compact room for many items for comfortable operation;
  • low price, it all depends on the model you choose, or the independent execution of the product;
  • suitable for absolutely everyone, because you can make a wardrobe on the balcony to order. This choice is suitable for those who want to add their own zest to the furniture, to complement it;
  • from the aesthetic side, the right combination of colors will decorate your interior.

Minuses

It is also worth talking about the disadvantages of choosing:

  • difficult location. It is necessary to calculate in advance the dimensions, height, width to be able to fit the cabinet on the balcony;
  • the ability of the material to withstand high or low temperatures, the presence of high moisture and resistance to heavy loads must be taken into account.

findings

To choose the right cabinet, it is worth considering its dimensions and criteria such as moisture resistance and resistance to temperature extremes. It is not necessary to buy, you can make a piece of furniture yourself.

A cabinet selected according to all criteria will serve you for a long time without creating unnecessary inconvenience.

Photo cabinets for the balcony

Furniture can only be installed on glazed balconies. No, even the most reliable, protection of wooden structures will not allow them to be used outdoors for a long time. For a maximum of several years, the furniture will have to be thrown away and new ones made. This is the first condition that everyone who wants to install corner cabinets on the balcony needs to know. The second important condition for the success of the business is that you must have at least minimal practical experience with wood and a set of tools. And the third condition is patience, attentiveness, accuracy and perseverance. If all three requirements are met, then you can begin to independently manufacture a corner cabinet for a balcony.

We will not consider the original options for the manufacture of cabinets made of aluminum, stainless steel and glass, such furniture is expensive and difficult to make. For self-manufacturing, you need to be proficient in several specialties and have a professional set of tools for working on glass and metal. And the balcony is not the place where it is advisable to install cabinets made of aluminum and glass. Consider cheaper and easier to process materials.

  1. . Excellent material in every way. As for the relatively high price, this is not a problem, only a few boards are required for a corner cabinet, any consumer can afford to buy them. To increase the service life and improve the appearance, the lumber is treated with special compounds and varnishes, it is possible to decorate the front surfaces with separate decorations.

  2. . The cabinet will be made quickly and at minimal cost. Plastic does not rot, is easy to clean, does not require periodic "refreshment" of the outer surface. The disadvantage is low strength indicators.

  3. . Excellent material, plywood does not warp as a result of changes in humidity. Material of universal use, has many different types and grades. In the implementation there are laminated sheets, they are used for the manufacture of furniture by specialized companies. A cabinet made of laminated sheets will look great. The cost of the material is above average.

  4. OSB and chipboard. In all quality indicators, the material is inferior to natural lining. Another problem is that a rather large weight greatly complicates the manufacturing process and requires durable fittings. External surfaces must be additionally finished to improve the design look. We do not recommend using fiberboard boards for the manufacture of cabinets, they are too short-lived.

  5. . There are recommendations to make corner cabinets from this material. We strongly advise you not to use drywall for the manufacture of any furniture. Even for the production of construction work, this material in all respects is in last place. Construction companies use it because of its low price and manufacturability. Drywall has no other advantages.

The article will give step-by-step instructions for making a corner cabinet from natural lining - the highest quality and most beautiful material.

Preparing to make a cabinet

Choose the principal model of the corner cabinet.

  1. The furniture is fixed, the frame is attached to the ceiling, floor and side surfaces, only doors need to be made. This option greatly simplifies the work, you do not have to separately make the frame and upholster it with clapboard from all sides. Doors can be made hinged or sliding. These cabinets must be made before the upholstery of the balcony; it is impossible to move to another place.
  2. Furniture is mobile, a full-fledged corner cabinet is being made. It is more difficult to do, but the possibilities are much expanded, the cabinet can be installed not only in different corners of the balcony, but also used for interior spaces.

We will focus on the second universal option. For work, you will need a bar 50 × 50 mm, lining, corners, self-tapping screws and accessories. Of the tools, you need to have a hand saw or a jigsaw, a planer, a chisel, a wood chisel, a hammer, a screwdriver, a tape measure and a pencil.

Step by step manufacturing instructions

Step 1. On a piece of paper, make a few sketches of bedside tables. Look for successful examples on the Internet, adapt them to your conditions. Do not rush to accept the final version, try to look not only for today, but also for the future. The more versatile the bedside table is, the more convenient it is to use, the more various items can be placed. It is recommended to take into account not only the height and width, but also the number of shelves and the distance between them. Another important point - for each element, make a margin of safety, do not count on storing only light items.

Step 2 After the final version is selected, it is possible to determine the range and quantity of fittings, hardware and assembly fixtures. It is recommended to fix the frame with corners, it is much easier than making a tenon / groove or half-tree connection. Although, of course, this is the work of the master, everyone must decide for himself how to act.

Step 3 Take measurements of the cabinet. Take measurements from the walls and ceiling, but when calculating the frame elements, these values \u200b\u200bmust be reduced by twice the thickness of the lining, plus another centimeter or two for the gap.

Practical advice. Be sure to draw sketches of all frame elements, check the dimensions again. Count the number of parts, some of them will have the same parameters in length.

Prepare a template for each element, cut out all the rest according to it. Pay attention to the corners, it is better to cut the bars at the corners with a special tool. If not, then use a square. The denser the bars of the frame will adjoin each other at the docking points, the stronger the frame will be. Do not hope that all mistakes can be corrected with corners, it is not. If the density of fixation is violated, the stability of the frame will decrease significantly.

Step 4 Start assembling the frame. First, the upper and lower parts are connected. Attach them to each other, they should be exactly the same. Make fixation with corners on self-tapping screws, tighten tightly. The length and diameter of the self-tapping screws is selected in such a way that they provide the required strength of the connection and at the same time do not split the bars.

Step 5 After the top and bottom are assembled, you can attach side vertical racks to them. Work is easier to do on a flat surface, it is advisable to have an assistant. Together, it is much easier to control the strength and accuracy of the frame assembly. After the vertical posts are fixed, put the frame in place and check the position and shape again. Do not forget about the gaps between it and the walls for lining. Problems have been discovered - it's not too late to fix everything.

Step 6 Screw the horizontal bars for the shelves to the frame. It is better to make the distance between them different, it will be possible to store objects of various sizes in the closet.

Step 7 Now you can start trimming the top, bottom and sides of the clapboard. If you did everything correctly, then the dimensions of the lining will be the same. In the lower part you need to make legs, the surface should be ventilated. The legs can be made from pieces of a bar or bought ready-made.

Practical advice. Work only with sharp and serviceable tools, otherwise the cut of the lining will be fleecy, you will have to grind it manually.

If, due to a lack of practical experience, the ends of the lining turned out to be ugly and uneven - no problem. Buy thin decorative wooden or plastic planks from the store and use them to frame the cabinet.

Below is a gallery of photographs of lining cabinets. Illustrative examples will help you choose the best option for your closet on the balcony.

Door manufacturing

Step 1. Take measurements and draw a sketch. You will need two identical doors, although the dimensions can be changed at your discretion.

Step 2. Cut the required amount of lining to size, use the template. Check the cut pieces for height. To do this, put them on a flat surface, if there is a difference in height, then correct the errors.

Step 3 For each door, two horizontal bars of the same length and one bar for the diagonal should be prepared. The frame will look like the letter Z, this configuration ensures the strength of the connection, the door will not break the geometric shape during lateral loads.

Step 4 Check the length of the horizontal bars, they cannot protrude beyond the perimeter of the door. Lay them on a flat surface, carefully fold the prepared lining blanks on top. Check the dimensions and angles again, if everything is fine, then you can start mounting.

Step 5 Fix the end boards first. If the structure has moved slightly during operation, set it to the correct position. After that, you can fix all the other segments of the lining.

Step 7 Try on a diagonal bar, mark the cuts with a pencil. Fit it as closely as possible to the horizontal elements. Everything is fine - screw each lining to a diagonal bar. The second door must be made identical to the first.

Step 8 Cut the boards for the shelves to size, set them in place. There is no need to screw, the main thing is that they lie tightly to each other.

Now you can start varnishing the nightstand. The operation is simple, but has its secrets.

Rules for varnishing

Buy only high-quality varnish; low-quality varnish raises the pile during drying. You will have to grind it, but on the lining it is long and difficult to do, it has an uneven surface. It is necessary to carefully grind each recess and ledge. Some profile turns have a small radius, which requires the manufacture of special tools for grinding. Before applying the varnish, the surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned of dust and, if necessary, dried. Varnish can be both on both sides, and only on the front.

Work with a brush, make sure that there are no streaks on vertical surfaces. If traces remain from the brush, then the varnish should be slightly diluted. You need to cover at least two times. If there is no practical experience in applying varnish compositions to wooden surfaces, then it will not be superfluous to cover in three layers. Each subsequent is applied only after the previous one has completely dried. If desired, the lining can be impregnated with stain before varnishing.

Before varnishing, it is recommended to put the doors on a horizontal surface, this will greatly simplify the work and make it possible to cover with a thicker layer of varnish. Just do not get too carried away, varnish can accumulate in the recesses of the lining. If the balcony is cold, then you should purchase a varnish for external work, it can withstand sub-zero temperatures and does not react to condensation.

Installation of hinges and fittings

Remember that hinged hinges are left and right, select the appropriate pair for each door. In order for the doors to close tightly, you need to drown the metal plates of the hinges. First you have to do the markup.

Practical advice. It is much easier to first install the hinges on the doors, and then make markings on the vertical racks.

Along the marked lines, cut the tree a little with a chisel, carefully remove the wood over the entire area with a chisel. The chisel must be held in such a position that the part sharpened at an angle is directed towards the removed wood. If this is not done, then the edges of the recess will be crumpled, and this is a cosmetic defect, indicating a low qualification of the master. The depth of the recess must correspond to the thickness of the loop. Constantly check the depth, do not go too deep, otherwise the opening / closing of the doors will be difficult.

Handles are attached according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you wish, you can install a lock, it should only be overhead, the mortise does not allow you to put the thickness of the lining. The fittings are already fixed on the installed doors. Today in the implementation there are many different decorative elements made of plastic and wood. You can use them to give the corner cabinet a completely exclusive look.

The idea to build a wardrobe on the balcony with your own hands arises quite often. Indeed, in such a cabinet it will be so convenient to store jars and various household trifles.

The only drawback of almost all balconies and loggias is their small width, so you need to carefully consider the choice of furniture. For example, a closet on the balcony should be narrow enough and its open door should not block the room.

Such requirements are fully consistent with the wardrobe, which can be made to order or assembled with your own hands. In addition to the closet, corner cabinets, of which there may be several, are well suited to the balcony. It is necessary to consider options with mezzanines, on which you can remove those things that are very rarely used in the family.

In this article you will receive step-by-step instructions on how to make a wardrobe on the balcony with your own hands. So let's get started...

Selection of tools and materials

In order to assemble a cabinet with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • wooden bars;
  • plywood, fiberboard or chipboard;
  • boards;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • aluminum profile;
  • drywall or plastic;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • stain, varnish and paint;
  • electric drill;
  • grinder and a small electric circular saw.

Having all these necessary materials and the skill of working with the listed tool available, it will not be difficult to make a closet on the balcony.

How to start making a wardrobe on the balcony

To assemble the cabinet, you can use metal or aluminum corners or wooden blocks. Plywood, fiberboard, chipboard or plastic will be attached to them. The cabinet, located along the wall of the balcony or loggia, is equipped with a door that slides to the side, and corner cabinets - opening "on itself".

Options for balcony cabinets are very diverse and depend on the imagination and skill of the master. When planning them, you need to remember a good Russian saying: "measure seven times - cut once." The widest cabinets are mounted on the ends of the balcony, and the narrowest - along the wall.

Fixing the frame and installing shelves

The manufacture of any cabinet begins with fixing the frame. As already noted, it can be wooden or metal. The frame is attached to the floor and ceiling of the balcony using metal corners and self-tapping screws or dowels. It is preferable to build high cabinets, up to the ceiling of the balcony. This allows more rational use of the usable area. Although, there may be other options.

It is necessary to ensure that the frame is held firmly. Then, cladding panels are attached to the finished frame. They need to be fixed with self-tapping screws with a recessed head.

Together with the cladding, the internal shelves of the cabinet are also constructed. It is best to make them removable. This will make it easier to keep clean.

Shelves must be strong, as heavy items such as pickles and jam jars are often placed on the balcony. The best option is to make them from a planed board 2-4 cm thick and 15-25 cm wide. If possible, such boards can also be used for cladding. Although this will cost more than cladding made of other material, the boards are easier to install and they are not afraid of dampness.

Cabinet door installation

After the cladding and internal shelves are fixed, you can proceed with the installation of cabinet doors. Installation of doors is the most difficult and time-consuming process, since it is necessary to strictly maintain all dimensions.

As already mentioned, swinging doors are mounted on corner cabinets, and sliding doors on cabinets located along the walls. Sliding doors, the so-called sliding doors, are mounted on aluminum profiles, on which they slide open. Such a profile can be easily bought at a store selling furniture fittings. It is necessary to use only high-quality fittings. This will help to eliminate profile breakage in the future or dimensional mismatch during installation.

The doors of the balcony closet can be hinged (as in this photo) or sliding.

The sliding door leaf itself can be made from any material. If you want it to be light, make it out of plastic. In this case, wooden bars are attached to the plastic, from below and reconciliation, with self-tapping screws, on which the fittings are fixed.

Opening doors on corner cabinets can also be made from any material and hinged. If the door is small, on a small cabinet, you can use simple piano hinges. If it is large - special hinges for attaching cabinet doors. In the second case, the hinges, after installing the door, will need to be adjusted. This is easily done with the screws located on them.

To prevent the doors from opening on their own, you can use magnetic latches. During installation, such latches are mounted on the door and on the cabinet itself and are adjusted so that when closing, the two halves coincide. The magnetic latches hold the door firmly and it opens easily with little effort. Properly installed doors on sliding wardrobes do not need clamps.

Cabinet painting

After the doors are installed and adjusted, you can proceed to painting new cabinets. If the lining is made of boards, they can be covered with stain and varnish. However, the same can be done with any other material except, of course, plastic.

You can also consider options for painting cabinets with oil or water-based paint.

The design option for a balcony cabinet depends on the overall design of the room.

After painting, handles are fixed on the doors.
