Under the influence of natural elements, they collapsed and eventually acquired their current bizarre form, reminiscent of fairy-tale characters.

Rest in Yaremche

Yaremche is a visiting card of the Carpathians. Here, family holidays are good all year round: coniferous forests, humid climate, mild winters and cool summers, the picturesque Prut River and much more will please the eye throughout your visit to the beautiful Carpathians.

There are a lot of interesting places, attractions and tourist routes. Also, in the city itself and the surrounding area there are 11 sanatoriums and 6 children's health camps, private holiday homes and small hotels that hospitably await their guests. In sanatoriums, first of all, they treat the organs of the respiratory system, because where, if not in the Carpathians, is the cleanest air and the absence of any heavy industry. Also, Yaremche resorts are suitable for people who suffer from diseases of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Below is a brief guide to tours, sights, cuisine and other facts of this beautiful city.

The cuisine of this region - what to try?

Hutsul cuisine is very tasty and original. In her arsenal there are a number of dishes that will be new to residents of big cities.

Brynza is a cheese made from sheep's milk. Since there are a lot of gently sloping meadows covered with lush greenery in the Carpathians, sheep breeding is a very popular and profitable business here. If you walk in the mountains, you will definitely see a large flock, which, under the supervision of dogs and shepherds, nibbles the grass measuredly.

The process of preparing cheese is very long, complex and painstaking. Sheep's milk is mixed with a special sourdough, vats are placed near the fire and stirred until cheese breasts appear. Further, large breasts are formed from them and hung in a warm place in gauze. After a week, the cheese is salted and butter is added, ground and a real traditional Hutsul cheese is obtained. It doesn't look like the one sold in the store.

Also, no one will be indifferent to the mushroom soup, which is prepared from local mushrooms collected in the vicinity.

Cromply is a traditional potato casserole with sausage that the locals love to eat and cook.

Bograch is a Hungarian dish that has successfully migrated across the border to Transcarpathia and further to Yaremche. This dish is excellent here. What is this - a rich man? A soup that is very similar to goulash. It is cooked in a cauldron over an open fire with plenty of meat and paprika. The dish turns out to be very rich, fatty, satisfying and spicy. Do not get involved in people with problems of the stomach and pancreas.

Vacation in summer

Summer is a great time to go to the mountains. If the forecast does not promise rain, you can safely go to the Carpathian region for a week. You can stop in the city, and every day explore the surroundings on your own or by car.

In the vicinity you can find different varieties of mushrooms and berries; in the middle of summer, whole fields of blueberries and raspberries ripen. Do not forget to take a basket for a walk or, at worst, a bag for berries, then you will have fragrant porridge with blueberries and raspberry tea for breakfast.

You can rent bicycles and lay a mountain scenic route; rent a fishing rod and fish for river trout; ride ATVs or sunbathe by the pool or lake.

The construction of hotels and private holiday homes is developing very actively in this region. Some of them are equipped with swimming pools, outdoor terraces and barbecue areas - the owners do everything to make their guests' stay pleasant and memorable.

In the summer, there are many children's health camps where you can safely send your child without fear for the success of his vacation.

Recently, the Artek children's health camp has been operating on the territory of the Bukovel resort, which traditionally consists of several: forest, mountain, lake. Here, professional counselors work with children, who teach them songs, games, go hiking in the mountains, swim in the lake, learn the basics of orienteering and much more. Children will not be bored!

Rest in winter

Arriving in Yaremche in winter, you will find a real winter fairy tale with snow-white snowdrifts, sleighs with horses, as well as skiing.

You can go skiing or snowboarding directly in the city - here in the Bagrovets tract there are two tracks for beginners. There is equipment rental, as well as a ski school with experienced instructors.

If you are already an experienced rider, go to the Yablunetsky pass, to Vorokhta or to Bukovel. After the Bukovel ski resort, well-known and very popular among Ukrainians and even foreigners, was built, there were much more guests in Yaremche. In winter, this city is chosen as a budget accommodation, as the ski resort cannot boast of its affordability in the high winter season. The journey by car will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Also, in Yaremche there are many hotels with their own saunas and restaurants, vats and steam rooms - in the evenings no one will be bored here.

For those who choose a relaxing holiday without extreme entertainment, we advise you to ride snowmobiles, ATVs or just sledding.

Attractions

In the city itself and its environs there are many attractions - from ancient cathedrals and churches to museums and waterfalls.

It is better to start walking routes with Dovbush's Stitches.

It originates from the Dribka tract, then to Mount Makovitsa through the juniper-fir forest. According to legend, rebels led by Oleksa Dovbush skillfully hid from enemy eyes here. Moreover, local residents claim that the opryshki hid a golden treasure somewhere near the trail, which no one has yet found.

On the ladder you will see stunning forests, dense thickets and huge boulders. According to legend, it was in one of the caves that the Hutsul Robin Hood hid his treasure.

The length of the trail is only 4 km, so this route is suitable for absolutely all family members. Along the entire route there are picturesque viewing platforms from which a beautiful view of the Carpathian valleys between the mountain ranges opens.

In addition to the Dovbush trail, there are also such popular walking routes:

  • Kamyanka (5 kilometers)
  • Mount Khomyak
  • Mount Makovitsa
  • Mount Goverla
  • Mountain Pop Ivan

Of all the routes, the most difficult is the ascent to Hoverla. You need to go there with a professional guide. You should not worry, organized tours are regularly led to Hoverla.

Waterfall Probiy

An extremely beautiful waterfall, which was formed naturally on the Prut River, is located in the very center of the city. You will walk along a narrow high bridge, and the most full-flowing cascading waterfall will make noise below.

Locals say that earlier the waterfall was much higher, but it prevented the forest from rafting down the river. Therefore, it was blown up, and now the height of the water fall is 8 meters (previously it was 25).

You can go down to the water itself near the fair, so you will have the whole cascade in full view. But do not stand on wet stones - there is a risk of slipping. The flow is so fast and strong that there were even traumatic cases.

If you want extreme sports, a rope crossing is stretched over the waterfall, so you can rush over the waterfall at high speed. Another form of entertainment is rafting. It is from the waterfall that the marked tourist route to the Yavornik ridge begins - rafting from Vorokhta to Yaremcha ends there.

Restaurant-museum "Hutsulshchyna"

Not far from the fair and the waterfall is a very interesting building. The peculiarity is that it was built without a single nail! The restaurant-museum "Hutsulshchyna" embodies the original Carpathian architecture: it is a wooden frame with filigree carvings on the facade, built taking into account all the traditions of the structure of the Carpathian houses of this region.

Inside, the life of a Carpathian family opens before the eyes of the guests: a wood-burning stove lined with rare antique tiles, woven tablecloths made of sheep's wool, wooden clocks with moving figures, dishes and much more.

souvenir market

If you are looking for souvenir gifts for loved ones from the Carpathians, do not pass by, probably, the largest souvenir market in the Hutsul region. From the restaurant-museum by the road, turn onto the suspension bridge, and right behind it you will see a real wooden town with tiled roofs.

It is here that you can buy a beautiful little thing that will remind you of a wonderful trip to the Carpathians: a hand-painted clay service, a carved wooden mug with Hutsul ornaments, beads or a product made of sheep wool that will warm you in winter.

If you have always dreamed of a real vyshyvanka or an embroidered dress, there is a huge selection of them here. But make sure that the embroidery is not machine-made, but handmade. It is easy to recognize by the symmetry and quality of the stitches.

Also, we advise you to take a closer look at the jewelry here: bright wooden beads, wicker bracelets, massive earrings - folk details can be skillfully combined with a jacket or jeans. Colleagues will not be able to resist the compliments!

Aviary farm - zoo in Yaremche

We advise absolutely everyone to look here, not only to look at a variety of animals, but also to get acquainted with representatives of the exclusively Carpathian fauna. Wild boars, roe deer, eagles, deer and many others live here.

There is no atmosphere of a zoo with cages and aviaries that depress and make you sad. Here all animals are housed in close to wild conditions, they are surrounded by green forest and fresh air.

Towers are equipped near most of the enclosures so that everyone, without exception, can see the animals, even if they are located in the depths of the enclosure. Also, some representatives of the captive economy can be fed. For example, deer love apples, and wild boars will be delighted with Jerusalem artichoke, pumpkin or corn.

How to get there?

It is easy to get to the farm on foot from the center of Yaremche. The path will take you no more than half an hour and will be 1.2 km.

By car, it is better to go from the railway station along the street. Svoboda, then right to the railway crossing. Then, move along Grushevsky and follow the signs that appear.

Carpathians in miniature

As many people know, there is a similar park in Kyiv - Kyiv in miniature. On it you can see a small funicular, churches, trams and houses. Moreover, there is also a miniature museum in Lviv - a park of castles and fortifications, where children as adults love to look at various fortifications, cannons with tiny shells, real fairy-tale castles and drawbridges. Also, in Alushta there is a park "Crimea in miniature".

The fourth park-museum was "Carpathians in miniature" in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, namely in Yaremche. It was organized on the initiative of the public organization "Center for Social and Business Initiatives" together with the leadership of the Carpathian National Park.

Some specimens are modern, but there are also those whose appearance was restored from rare archival photographs. For example, the observatory on Mount Pop Ivan, which is now an abandoned ruin.

Now, walking through the territory of the Carpathian National Natural Park, you can look at a cute and interesting composition of miniatures: mountains, observatories, rural houses, mountain stations and trains - all this was created with amazing accuracy. This is not only a tourist attraction, but also an educational location, because each miniature tells about the history, geography and geology of this unique mountainous region of our country.

The park-museum consists of about twenty copies, which are architectural monuments of this region. Some of them are little known, but with a huge ancient history:

  • Sculpture of Queen Jadwiga
  • Proboy Waterfall on the Prut River
  • Working railway in miniature
  • Authentic restaurant "Hutsulshchyna" in Yaremche
  • Railway station in Tatariv
  • Tunnels, aqueduct bridge
  • Many monasteries and churches

All the museum guides are highly educated residents of this area and lead tours in national costumes.

The park-museum plans to expand its list of specimens. The reduction scale of each exhibit is 25 times.

Working hours: from 10:00 to 20:00 all year round daily

Ticket price: 30 UAH for adults, 20 UAH for children. Beneficiaries upon presentation of the relevant document - admission is free.

Entertainment

Rafting is the visiting card of the region

For many years in a row, when the rivers become full-flowing, hundreds of tourist groups come here for rafting. For those who are new to this word, we hasten to explain. Rafting is rafting on a mountain river in inflatable boats, kayaks or catamarans.

The entertainment is quite extreme. All participants must wear helmets and life jackets. Also, in early spring, the water in the mountain rivers is cold - you will need a special wetsuit.

Alloys are different in duration and mileage. The most popular is 40 km. If you wish, you can stay in tent camps, cook food on fire and sing songs by the fire in the evenings with friends.

Horse rides

In Yaremche and the surrounding area, local residents keep horses for housework, but there are also specially equipped stables with horses designed for horseback riding and riding.

Start your day in the mountains with a 2-3 hour walk along the mountain trails on horseback. Emotions will remain in your heart for a long time!
