How to sheathe the ceiling in your house. Ceiling device in a wooden house: options for insulation and decoration. Pros of wood finishes

We bring to your attention 20 illustrative examples of the use of wooden ceilings in interiors (implemented and design projects), which were published on the pages of the Ideas for Your Home magazine.

1. Wooden decorative panels

Architect Alexander Gusev. Photo: Alexander Ivasenko (IVD 2/2017)

In this room, the decoration of the space above the head is made using various materials. Ceiling beams are combined with cladding in the form of wooden decorative panels with built-in lights, between which a metal mesh is stretched.

2. Floor going into the ceiling

Designer: Anna Demushkina. Photo: Eugene Kulibaba (IVD 6/2015)

The original version: the oak parquet board passes from the floor to the wall and then partially fills. At the same time, all ceiling lighting was built into drywall on both sides of the wooden plane.

3. Contrast parquet ceiling

Architect: Olga Simagina. Photo: Konstantin Smilga (IVD2/2017)

Not only the floor, but also part of the ceiling and walls of the living-dining room, located in a small St. Petersburg apartment, was finished with a parquet board with wide and contrasting longitudinal stripes. At the same time, light "inclusions" are associated with rays of light emanating from the window.

4. Volumetric ceiling

Designers: Anastasia Mezenova, Larisa Gracheva. Photo: Vladimir Burtsev / Fazenda TV program (IVD 4/2017)

The option of using natural wood in the design. At the heart of the three-dimensional structure with oak panel cladding, which occupies part of the ceiling and wall, is a complex frame made of a metal profile and chipboard. The symmetry of the pattern of diamond-shaped modules, reminiscent of a beehive, is broken in order to give dynamics to the composition.

5. Thermal board ceiling

Architects: Tatyana Levina, Mikhail Levin. Photo: Denis Vasiliev (IVD 5/2015)

The decoration of the ceiling and wall in the area near the window is made of a dark brown thermal board, which gives the room in a Moscow apartment a feeling of warmth and comfort, like in a country house.

6. Wooden ceiling in the bathroom

Architect-designer: Tatyana Zhivolupova. Visualization — Anastasia Yashchenko (IVD 1/2016)

In a damp room, the space above your head can also be trimmed with wood. For example, in this case, the ceiling lining continues on one of the walls and is repeated in the finish of the washbasin countertop. The rest of the surfaces are white with a glossy effect or mirrored, while the black washbasins act as contrasting accents.

7. Ceiling made of artificially aged boards

Designers: Pavel and Svetlana Alekseev. Visualization by Pavel Alekseev (IVD 4/2016)

Artificially aged boards served as the material for the ceiling, which were laid according to a scheme resembling a playing chess field. Hidden in the space above the ceiling is a ventilation duct running from the kitchen hood to the ventilation duct.

8. Illuminated ceiling

Designer: Olga Podolskaya. Photo: Ivan Sorokin (IVD 1/2016)

Above the working area of the kitchen, the ledge of the ceiling beam was lined with panels veneered with tinted oak. A ventilation duct was hidden inside this “box”, and a backlight was mounted in the lower plane.

9. Ceiling, partially finished with laminate

Architect: Maria Elmanova. Photo: Andrey Avdeenko (IVD 8/2015)

The design of the ceiling in this Kyiv apartment has become a stylish accent in the restrained appearance of the living room. The ceiling is partially finished with a pleasant warm shade of laminate, and is lowered along the perimeter for embedding several paired light sources. The center of the wooden square was marked with a chandelier with a translucent, visually almost weightless lampshade.

10. Ceiling as a means of zoning

Architect: Marina Izmailova. Visualization of the author of the project (IVD 2/2014)

In this example, different ceiling finishes mark the border between the dining and working halves of the kitchen. The ceiling in the cooking area is lined with the same MDF panels as the furniture facades.

11. Ceiling niche

Designer: Egle Prunskaite. Photo: Darius Gumbrevicius (IVD 8/2015)

Another example of successful zoning: lining the ceiling niche with veneered panels visually separates the place to relax and watch TV from the kitchen and dining room.

12. Wooden ceiling and minimalist style

Designers: Alexey Strelyuk, Nasima Boymatova. Photo: Sergey Tomenko (IVD 5/2015)

In a minimalist, functionalist interior, the wood texture of the ceiling contrasts with glossy self-leveling floors and white walls.

13. Surface-mounted veneer ceiling light

Architect-designer: Ilona Boleyshits, architect Igor Orlov. Visualization: Arseniy Lavrukhin (IVD 11/2015)

The children's half of the bedroom is lit with a wood veneer ceiling light with leaf-shaped slots, the same as the radiator screen.

14. Wooden slats as an element of decor

Designer: Nina Romanyuk. Visualization: Design Studio Ideas (IVD 5/2016)

The composition of wooden slats on the ceiling gives the interior dynamics and visually emphasizes the sleeping area.

15. Wooden lattice with overhead lights

Designer: Olga Alexandrova. Visualization: Archivizer (IVD 5/2016)

In the design of the ceiling, a wooden lattice with overhead linear light sources is used, which, reflected in the glossy kitchen facades, gives additional depth to the room.

16. Black wood ceiling

Architect-designer: Tatyana Zhivolupova. Visualization: Anastasia Yashchenko (IVD 1/2016)

The ceiling and one of the walls of the living room are sheathed with black decorative panels. A rather voluminous dark surface was effectively diluted with linear lamps with a compositionally verified rhythmic pattern.

17. Ceiling that visually enlarges the space

Design studio: Zi-Design Interiors. Visualization: Created in Space (IVD 11/2016)

Another illustration of the use of wooden slats and linear fixtures under the ceiling, but this time. Thanks to this solution, as well as built-in wardrobes with mirrored facades, a small space is doubled.

18. Wood paneled ceiling

An unusual idea: the ceiling in the kitchen area, hallway and bathroom is sheathed with FSF wooden panels, in the seams between which RGB LEDs are installed with the ability to adjust color and brightness. Thus, the ceiling resembles a geometric puzzle with a luminous web between its elements.

19. Ceiling false beams

Designers: Natalia Grishchenko, Anna Kashutina. Visualization of the authors of the project (IVD 9/2015)

In this example, false ceiling beams visually level the overall height of the ceiling in the studio, and also serve as the basis for mounting fixtures.

20. Wooden beams and drywall

Chief architect of the project: Rodion Prazdnikov. Photo: Ilya Ivanov (IVD 7/2016)

The ceilings in the Moscow studio apartment were uneven, so wooden beams were also used to create a decoration with hidden electrical wiring imitating box vaults.

The correct one allows you to minimize heat leakage from the premises and prevent the penetration of cold air from the attic. No less important is the interior decoration of the ceiling surface, since the interior of the room will depend on it.

The main advantage of a homeownership built on a suburban area is the ability to independently choose everything necessary for its construction and interior decoration. With a huge range of modern building materials, many property owners prefer wood buildings.

There are several reasons for this:

  • in recent years, country houses made of natural wood have gained popularity;
  • wood as a building material has numerous advantages, the main of which are environmental friendliness and attractive appearance.

The owner of a house under construction will have to choose not only the material for building walls, but also decide what to make ceilings in a wooden house from.

ceiling finish requirements

A number of requirements are imposed on the ceiling in wooden buildings, which are not difficult and difficult to fulfill:

  1. Security. This is one of the main conditions, since it must turn out to be reliable and strong, fireproof. The material used for arranging the ceiling cannot release dangerous and harmful components into the surrounding space, both under normal conditions and in the case of high temperatures.
  2. Durability. The owners have been building a suburban building for many years. The longer it lasts without repair and replacement of the ceiling in a wooden house, the better.
  3. Attractive look. The materials used to decorate the ceiling surface should be in harmony with the walls made of natural wood and, as a result, create a single interior, making the atmosphere in the house even more cozy and comfortable.
  4. Reliable thermal insulation. For private households, the solution to the problem of saving heat is very relevant. According to physical laws, a lot of thermal energy rises with heated air. For this reason, the ceiling in a wooden house made of timber requires high-quality and efficient insulation.

Preparing the ceiling surface for finishing

Before proceeding with the design of the ceiling, it is necessary to properly prepare its surface. First, the ceiling is treated with an antiseptic that will protect it from the appearance of mold, fungus and decay. The fact is that treated wood will last much longer. When the antiseptic has already been applied during the construction of the house, then this procedure can be omitted.

Then the wooden ceiling structure should be impregnated with flame retardant. Such processing will protect the rough base from the influence of high temperatures and ignition. You cannot skip this step, because you should not ignore the security rules.

During the final stage of the preparation, a layer of heat insulator is laid, which minimizes the leakage of warm air from the house through the ceiling and roof. How effective the insulation of the ceiling surface will turn out depends mainly on the chosen material.

Each heater has features, advantages and disadvantages:

  1. Mineral wool. Depending on the application, it has a density of 75-200 kg/m3 and a thermal conductivity of 0.03 to 0.12 W/(mK). At high temperatures, the insulation only melts and is easy to install. Of the shortcomings, the ability to absorb moisture should be noted.
  2. Styrofoam. With a density of 45-150 kg / m3, its thermal conductivity is 0.041 W / (mK). This insulation has good thermal insulation characteristics at a low cost. The downside of polystyrene is that rodents can settle in it and, in the process of burning, it releases components harmful to people.
  3. Ecowool. The material has a density of 45-75 kg/m3 and a thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/(mK). At sufficiently high temperatures, it only melts, is characterized by environmental friendliness and sufficient thermal insulation properties. For the installation of ecowool, a special device is required.
  4. Expanded clay. Its density is 800-1200 kg/m3, and its thermal conductivity is 0.18 W/(mK). Of the advantages of the material, incombustibility, environmental safety and ease of installation should be noted. The disadvantage of expanded clay is its large weight and the fact that its thermal insulation performance is worse than that of other heaters.
  5. Sawdust. Their density is 200-450 kg/m3 with a thermal conductivity of 0.08 W/(mK). The cheapest heat insulator. But rodents can start in woodworking waste. Sawdust is unstable to the appearance of fungus and decay.

When buying a heater, you need to remember that the lower the thermal conductivity coefficient, the better its thermal insulation properties. Before you make a ceiling in a wooden house, you need to insulate it, for example, using mineral wool rolls.

The sequence of actions during its installation will be as follows:

  1. First level and clean the surface of the rough base.
  2. A waterproofing film is laid on it and fixed. Her canvases are overlapped and glued on top of adhesive tape.
  3. A crate is nailed to the base, which acts as a frame for mounting insulation. For its assembly, a metal profile or a wooden beam is used. The distance between the elements of the crate must be made 1-2 centimeters less than the width of the mineral wool roll in order to achieve a reliable “adhesion” of the heat insulator with the frame.
  4. Insulation sheets are placed between profiles or beams. The minimum thickness of thermal insulation should be 50 millimeters. When laying several layers of this insulation, it is necessary to cover the joints of the rolls of the lower layer with the upper layer.
  5. The crate and heat insulator, before making a ceiling in a log house, are covered with a vapor barrier film on top.

If the crate for insulation was assembled from a wooden beam, it should be treated with antiseptic compounds. Only after the completion of the preparatory work, they begin to arrange the ceiling in a wooden building.

clapboard

Very often, when deciding what to make a ceiling in a house from a bar with their own hands, the owners of suburban real estate choose a lining, which is a planed board. On one end they have a tongue, which is also called a ridge or ledge, and on the other, a groove.

The board for the ceiling in a wooden house is inserted with a tongue into the groove of the previous product. So the ceiling boards are attached to each other. The lining differs in the length and width of the boards, the material of manufacture, color and texture. On sale there are products stylized as a log cabin.

The main advantage of lining lies in a wide range of these products, from which you can always choose boards that are most suitable for interior decoration.

The advantages of this finishing material do not end there:

  1. High soundproof qualities. In rooms lined with clapboard, the sounds of movement and conversation on the floor above will not be heard, especially if, before closing the ceiling in a wooden house, a heat-insulating layer is laid.
  2. Durability. Planks treated with antiseptic compounds, varnishes or other coatings can last for many years without replacement.
  3. The perfect combination of lining with wooden walls.
  4. Vapor permeability. Since this finishing material "breathes", moisture and condensate will not collect between the finish from it and the rough base, which can reduce the life of the ceiling and reduce the effect of laying the heat-insulating layer.

There is a nuance in how to make the right ceiling in a wooden house using lining. The fact is that the finish of this material is not suitable for all rooms. For example, ceiling surfaces made of such wooden planks in large rooms look boring and unattractive.

You can solve this problem if you use the finish of the boards of different colors. This technique allows you to divide the space of the room into several functional zones - it is especially relevant when decorating a hall or living room. You can diversify the ceiling finish with the help of patterns, paintings or carvings applied to the lining before starting its installation.

There is another original way to decorate the ceiling in a wooden house. It lies in the fact that the slats on the outside need to be artificially aged. As a result, the interior of the room resembles the atmosphere of an old mansion.

On sale there are boards for finishing, called eurolining. They are manufactured according to DIN 68-126. This material is distinguished by a higher quality of surfaces and the execution of tongues and grooves.

Installation of the ceiling in a wooden house using lining is performed in stages:

  1. Measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling in all corners of the room. Then choose an angle with a lower height and measure 50 millimeters down from it.
  2. Using a laser level or a marking thread, a frame installation line is drawn from the point selected in the previous step. As a result, the ceiling is perfectly flat relative to the floor surface.
  3. To assemble the frame, a wooden beam of small section is used. The installation lines of the battens are perpendicular to the future finish. The gap between them should be from 40 to 50 centimeters. It is necessary to observe the distance between the timber and the walls of the room from 10 to 15 centimeters. Before mounting the frame elements, they must be treated with an antiseptic and fire retardant.
  4. In the case when we make a ceiling in a wooden house from a lining, and the boards are not previously painted or varnished, then an appropriate coating is applied to them.
  5. Wooden planks are cut in accordance with the width of the room, but at the same time, a gap of 10-20 millimeters must be observed between them and the walls on each side, so that swelling and deformation do not occur if the material expands under the influence of moisture.
  6. The first board is attached to the frame using clamps, nails or screws.
  7. Mount the next plank by inserting the tongue into the groove of the previous board. The lining must be carefully adjusted one to the other with a rubber mallet.
  8. Repeat the previous step for all installed strips.
  9. The last of the boards, if necessary, is cut. As a rule, it is attached to the crate with nails, which are forgotten "along the oblique".
  10. The compensation gaps between the walls and the lining are covered with ceiling plinths.

wood veneer

An alternative solution when choosing how to make a ceiling in a house from a bar is to use veneered panels, which are strips with locks for fixing and installation. On the outside, they are covered with veneer - this is the name of a thin wooden sheet only a few millimeters thick.

Typically, valuable tree species are used for the production of such panels. Due to the fact that the veneer has a slight thickness, it can be used to create a beautiful ceiling finish and at the same time at an affordable price.

The installation technology of veneered panels has a lot in common with lining laying:

  • first mark the ceiling base;
  • then collect the crate;
  • the first panel is attached to the frame with nails or self-tapping screws;
  • the following finishing trims are connected to the previous elements using tongue and groove locks.

plywood sheets

There is an opinion that plywood is not only a cheap material, but also not very outwardly attractive to use it for ceiling decoration.

But now manufacturers produce such high-quality varieties of plywood that they are the material from which ceilings are made in a wooden house. Externally, this finish looks aesthetically pleasing, no worse than the surface of the lining or veneered panels.

The advantages of this material:

  • low cost;
  • resistance to high humidity in the case when the plywood sheets have been subjected to appropriate processing and are laminated on the outside. See also: "How to make a ceiling in the house - finishing options".

The sequence of actions in this case is as follows:

  1. Mark the base of the ceiling as previously described in the article on the installation of the lining, and assemble the frame from the timber. The distance between the elements of the crate is made such that it is several centimeters less than the width of the sheet. This is necessary in order to attach the plywood directly to the frame.
  2. A solid sheet of material is applied to the crate so that its edges are located in the middle of the beam, from which the base of the ceiling structure is assembled. Plywood is first fixed with screws or nails in the corners, and only then around the entire perimeter with an interval of 20 to 25 centimeters.
  3. The remaining sheets are mounted in series in the same way.
  4. Finish the job by laying plywood sheets along the edges near the walls.
  5. The joints between the individual elements are sealed with decorative overlays, such as baguettes or false beams.

Since the dimensions of the plywood sheets are large, it is advisable to stack them together with assistants.

natural wood

The flooring, made from planed boards made from precious woods, is perfect for most interiors. This is one of the options for how to make a ceiling on wooden beams. To create the atmosphere of a village house, the finish of this material is complemented by a surface of slab or obapol - lumber obtained from the side of the logs.

The technology for decorating a ceiling from planed boards is similar to the method of arranging a hemmed ceiling. First of all, beams are mounted using a beam of large section.

Then boards are hemmed to them from below, which are fixed with self-tapping screws and carefully adjusted to each other, trying to make the gaps as small as possible. Before installation, both the boards and the crate are treated with protective agents, and at the end of the work they are varnished.

Another original addition to the design of a house made of natural wood is the ceiling beams. This method of finishing is sometimes used when equipping a wooden house without a ceiling, or rather without an attic. Cutouts in the walls for the installation of ceiling beams must be provided at the stage of construction of the building.

These wooden elements should be treated with special compounds that protect the wood from decay processes, they are varnished and, if necessary, aged.

If you don’t want to make cutouts in the wall and mount beams that are heavy in weight, but you want to see them under the roof, then you can use false beams made of wood or plastic, but hollow inside. They are much lighter and therefore easier to mount than solid timber elements.

Drywall

For the manufacture of gypsum boards, two layers of thick cardboard are used, between which there is a core of gypsum dough with different fillers. This finishing material is easy to use. It is used in the construction of multi-level ceiling structures suitable for decorating spacious rooms for various purposes.

Using plasterboard for decoration is one of the options for making a ceiling in a village house. It is convenient to cut holes in this material for installing spotlights that can emphasize the interior feature and illuminate certain areas in the room.

The plasterboard ceiling in a wooden house is mounted in the following sequence:

  1. A frame made of metal UD and CD profiles is laid on the crate for insulation. Its elements are placed perpendicular to the wooden crate. A compensation gap of 10-15 millimeters is left between the wall and the profile so that the drywall does not sag when the ceiling structure shrinks.
  2. GKL is fixed on the frame with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver.
  3. The joints of the sheets are puttied.
  4. Drywall is finished with embossed plaster, wallpaper, paint or other materials.

When installing spotlights, they pre-mark their locations, make electrical wiring, and before installing the GKL, they make cutouts for appliances in them.

How to make stretch ceilings in a wooden house

For stretch ceiling structures, a PVC or polymer fabric sheet is used, which is fixed on an aluminum or plastic profile frame.

This type of finish is suitable for newly built log houses, where over several years shrinkage of the floors will occur, and this circumstance makes it impossible to plaster or paint. The disadvantage of stretch ceilings is that they significantly reduce the height of the premises.

Finishing the ceiling in a wooden house can be done in different ways. A large number of options that are not available for an apartment will look very appropriate and harmonious in a private house. And this is due to the fact that here the ceilings are often higher than in apartments, and also because of the configuration of the roofs, they can have original shapes, which allows you to develop an unusual design of your own.

Independent work on ceiling sheathing in a wooden house requires certain knowledge and skills. The specifics of the work will depend on the type of ceiling. So, a hemmed beam ceiling consists of boards hemmed between the beams, between which insulation is laid, and covered with boards or plywood on top. The ceiling is made of solid logs. This design requires the preliminary manufacture of the crate.

wood finish

The best option for a wooden house, as this material is environmentally friendly, which allows you to maintain a favorable microclimate in the room. Wooden cladding between the beams can be made of several types - from budget lining to a noble expensive array. Alternatively, you can use a combination of materials, then the ceiling will be original and unique.

The ceilings in a wooden house are also finished with plywood. But no less popular is the finish of lumber - beech, oak, cherry, beech, ash, maple, birch, alder. Of the conifers, these are spruce, cedar, pine, larch, cedar, fir. They differ in texture, shade, pattern. When choosing lumber, it is important to take into account the level of humidity, no more than 16% is allowed.

clapboard

Lining is a board processed in a special way with a tongue and groove to simplify installation. The euro lining, unlike the usual one, has a higher quality and design of the lock. The peculiarity of lining is durability, strength, good sound insulation. Due to its naturalness, the surface of the ceiling always “breathes”, and the attractive price of such material makes it affordable for everyone.

Design options are as follows:

  • clapboard lining in one direction is best used for small rooms, in a large room it will look boring and monotonous;
  • if the lining is laid between the beams, its shade and direction of the lining can be changed, thus dividing the space into zones;

  • the continuous surface of the ceiling from the lining can be decorated with carvings or paintings. This solution looks very elegant and resembles colorful old houses.

Plywood

Although plywood is not often used for ceiling decoration, it can be used to create an interesting design, decorating a house effectively at no extra cost. Plywood is distinguished by the number of glued layers and by such indicators as:

  • grade - construction plywood of one of 5 grades is used for cladding;
  • moisture resistance - the parameter is especially important during the period when the house is not heated. Coating plywood with laminate increases moisture resistance;
  • type of wood - maple, birch, alder are most often used for the top layer of plywood, and the middle layers are most often made from coniferous species;
  • processing method - raw plywood is quite suitable for a country house, for a cottage it is better to use plywood sanded on one side. Double sided sanding is not required;
  • appearance - the decorative component of plywood can be made of asbestos paper, plastic, decorated with a pattern or imitation of wood.

To cover the ceiling with plywood, you must immediately construct a crate from wooden beams or an aluminum profile. You can fix the plywood to the beams using self-tapping screws or nails, and then seal the joints with a decorative rail or putty.

Plywood is a practical and inexpensive material that is perfect for lining the ceiling in a private house. With the help of plywood, you can create an individual design for any room or attic.

Veneered panels

Veneered panels - the same wood planks, only covered with veneer to create a decorative effect. After all, veneer quite successfully copes with imitation of any type of wood, and here it's all a matter of your taste. The price of the panels is slightly higher than the cost of lining, but the plating options are much more diverse.

A significant plus of the material is ease of installation. Each owner can install veneered panels, even without the appropriate skills and experience. Uncomplicated installation is carried out due to the locking connection of the panels. Thus, to make a ceiling, you will need a minimum of tools and time.

wood mass

Perhaps the most prestigious type of finish with wood is natural wood in the form of practical panels. The main properties of the material:

  • strength and durability;
  • high quality - depends directly on the type of wood itself;
  • luxurious appearance;
  • easy and quick installation, which you can do yourself, thanks to special built-in locks.

Such panels are made from hardwoods that meet certain characteristics.

Plaster

Finishing the ceiling of a wooden house with plaster was previously very relevant. Although today it is often found in modern cottages, it is still slowly becoming a thing of the past, because the range of materials has become much wider.

The plaster is applied to a mesh of shingles, previously stuffed between the crossbars. The durability and strength of the coating is ensured by the reliable adhesion of the mortar to shingles and relief mesh. It is impossible to plaster the ceiling on your own without certain skills and knowledge. This is a rather time-consuming and complex process that requires the hand of a professional.

Advantages of plaster:

  • attractiveness, rich colors and the ability to create a variety of relief on the surface;
  • practicality and durability;
  • affordable price of both the material itself and plastering services. Do-it-yourself work also does not require large cash costs.

The only inconvenience of such a finish in a wooden house is the need for thermal insulation of the walls, which is carried out from the inside of the room. Thermal insulation boards are a good basis for further installation of reinforcing mesh. However, this technology hides a valuable area, which is very undesirable if it is already not very large.

Drywall

Drywall panels are a versatile material for finishing any surface. With the help of drywall, you can create an individual project with a stunning design. A variant of a two-level ceiling and other intricate designs is possible.

Drywall is mounted on a wooden or metal frame, later they can be painted, pasted over with ceiling tiles or wallpaper. You can also install false beams on the slabs and mount spotlights. Gypsum stucco looks spectacular, which goes well with a plasterboard surface.

Stretch ceiling

It is quite suitable for installation in wooden houses. The only thing to take into account here is one nuance - the stretch fabric is not mounted immediately after the construction of the house, but at least after a couple of years, since each house shrinks. Stretch the canvas under the beams, due to which the height of the room may decrease. Stretch ceilings go well with drywall in multi-level designs, and a true professional can create a really great design, and your interior will become unique.

Plastic panels

Facing the ceiling with plastic panels in a wooden house is quite simple. The smooth surface of the draft ceiling allows you to mount plastic panels without additional crates. Otherwise, a crate will be required, for example, from a wooden beam or a metal profile.

Important! The disadvantage of all artificial materials is that they do not allow air to pass through, which can cause mold to appear under the panels. Therefore, it is best to use natural materials for a wooden house.

When the construction of a country house is completed, the most interesting and exciting begins - interior decoration. And here, of course, it all starts with the ceilings. Before choosing certain types of materials and design options, you need to think through the entire design of the room, since the ceiling must be combined with walls and floors, and the choice of materials and styles today is very large.

Finishes

Much depends on the budget that you plan to spend on ceilings. You can choose cheap options, but do everything so that it looks quite decent and stylish. If it is possible to spend money on expensive materials, then it is better to design, focusing on current trends. But then you need to study well all the properties of materials and the technology of their application, if the repair is done by hand. Only after studying all the nuances, you can finally decide how to finish the ceiling.

The most common options today are:

  • whitewash;
  • painting;
  • plaster and stucco;
  • stucco mosaic;
  • suspended and stretch ceilings;

  • wood structures:
  • drywall;
  • paper or vinyl wallpaper;
  • ceramic tile;
  • foam tiles.

Finishing work in a private house is different from what is done in an apartment. Here you need to take care not only about the beauty of the ceiling, but also about thermal insulation. Only when all this is done, you can proceed directly to the design of the ceiling, otherwise in the winter and the period of prolonged rains, the beautiful ceiling will deteriorate from moisture and frost and become unusable.

The rough surface does not require additional alignment if it is decided to make suspended ceilings. All wiring can be closed with a tension structure.

Required Tools

Before starting work, you should pay attention to the fact that all the necessary tools are at hand. If something is not in the house, you need to buy it in advance, so as not to interrupt work later and not be distracted by trifles.

You will need the following tools:

  • spatulas of various sizes and thicknesses;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • level;
  • trowels;
  • Bulgarian;
  • simple pencils;
  • rulers;
  • screwdrivers.

When preparing for repair work, it is better to have a few rulers, pencils and screwdrivers in stock, as these small items are constantly lost during the repair process, and it takes time to find them. Whitewashing or painting is the simplest and most well-known option that does not require special skills and high costs. After the ceiling is well aligned, you can start whitewashing it. In this case, all objects should be covered with oilcloth or paper - lime usually causes a lot of dirt.

When choosing a painting, you need to carefully consider the choice of shade. White color is the best option, because it can not get bored over time, and it is easy to match the design of walls and floors to it. In addition, light colors always increase the space.

If preference is given to deeper and more saturated shades, then you need to focus on your own taste and other design components. It is also worth considering that with low ceilings, dark paint will visually lower them even more. But if this does not matter, then you can experiment with color.

Gypsum or plaster

Without any difficulty, you can install gypsum panels yourself. Most often they are white, but thanks to a special paint after installation, they can be painted in the shade that is more to your liking.

Looks good on surfaces in a country house decorative plaster with a smooth and textured finish on the ceiling surface. The only point worth paying attention to in the absence of experience in working with this type of coating is the study of methods for applying plaster and their practical application. It is worth trying to apply plaster somewhere in an inconspicuous place and see what the result will be.

Textured plaster should be applied in a layer one centimeter thick. Then several more layers are applied alternately. As a result, the color should be rich and deep.

There is an option to make the ceiling even more original, using a mosaic, which is sold in building stores in the form of kits. It consists of fragments from which you can add both an abstract drawing and a whole picture. This mosaic is attached to the ceiling with tile adhesive. The materials from which the sets are made can be very different: ceramics, glass, small stones.

If you want to decorate the ceiling in the form of a mosaic in the bathroom or in the kitchen, then it should be noted that during work you will need a special waterproof glue that can withstand any humidity. At the same time, he must ensure that the tile does not fall off after a while.

Suspended and stretch ceilings

Floor structures in a private house complicate the task, and you have to decide how and how to close electrical wiring, ventilation and other communication elements. In this case, plasterboard suspended structures or stretch ceilings help to solve this issue.

Plasterboard construction is attached to the frame base, which is made of a metal profile. Then the frame is sheathed with plasterboard sheets and at the final stage a decorative coating is applied to these sheets - painting or wallpaper. You can additionally place lamps that will become a good decoration for the interior of the room.

As for the stretch ceiling, there is room for design solutions here, as it is possible to play with lighting by placing spotlights above a particular area of the room. In this case, you can choose materials of different shades and textures. Glossy ceilings in good light just shine, while matte ones look more casual. But when using beautiful decorative elements, both finishes will look beneficial.

Many are now leaning towards choosing matte ceilings, if only for the reason that they are much easier to care for. If the height of the premises allows, then you can try to make multi-level options for the ceiling surface.

With low ceilings, you should not overload the surface: you should not use bulky chandeliers and large lamps, as this will create an atmosphere of discomfort and pressure.

Wallpaper

Such a traditional type of ceiling decoration, like wallpaper, also belongs to one of the simple types of decoration. The main thing is a flat surface and good glue. It is not recommended to choose too heavy wallpaper with a complex pattern - it is better to use plain colors or with an abstract print. It is worth trying different types to highlight certain areas. Wall murals will also look good, especially for a children's room.

Applying liquid wallpaper to the ceiling has become relevant- it looks nice. The main thing is to properly prepare for the application process. To do this, you first need to prime the surface well, and after that it will be necessary to dry the ceiling.

wooden structures

If the house is located in a village and is made of timber, then it would be quite appropriate to sheathe the ceiling with wood. For this purpose, plywood, lining or a panel of slats is suitable. It is quite possible that the idea will arise to build a designer hinged structure, especially if there is an intention to decorate the house in a rustic style.

The easiest way is to use lining. It is a wooden plank, which can be narrow or wide, and also vary in thickness. They are usually made from hornbeam, aspen or oak. Lining is convenient in that it is able to hide defects in the ceiling, while special surface preparation is not required, and such a structure can be mounted very quickly.

For floors in the attic and between floors, beams and shields are used, which serves as the basis. With a shield ceiling, plaster and other types of decoration are usually used.

If the ceiling will consist of battens, then you will need to sand their front side, and then varnish them. You can use block-house slats that do not require any special preparation, retain heat well and give room for various interior solutions. The only disadvantage of such rails is the high price.

An original solution may be a combination of materials - the use of inserts from stretch fabrics or plasterboard structures.

Painting will help to make a wooden ceiling truly exclusive. You can create a real artistic canvas over your head or simply decorate small areas in the form of decoration. Both will radically transform the home and surprise guests.

What to insulate?

Before choosing the material for the ceiling in a private house, you need to consider the issue of insulation, which is very important, because it depends on how comfortable it will be in the house in winter, and how long the ceiling will retain its original appearance.

There are two options for laying layers for insulation - lath and using a stapler. The materials used for these purposes are expanded clay, polystyrene foam, fiberglass and mineral wool. The latter option is considered the best material, since it retains heat better than others. Glassine is laid on top of the insulation, and then sheathing is performed.

It is worth paying attention to the ventilation of the room. To avoid high humidity, it must work very well. Otherwise, it will become a direct threat to the ceilings, because mold may appear on them, which will have to be dealt with with the help of special tools. If this problem already exists, then you need to dry the room well, and then treat the affected area with a special solution and dry it again. After all this, you should think about installing additional ventilation.

If a wooden coating is chosen for the ceilings, then from time to time it must be treated with special means to prevent the appearance of moisture.

Which ones to choose?

If in doubt about which material to choose, you should pay attention to where this ceiling will be installed. For example, wood flooring in the bathroom or kitchen is not a good idea, as the likelihood of mold growth is greatly increased. In this case, it is better to choose stretch fabrics.

When choosing ceilings for a private house, you need to focus not only on their beauty, but also on practicality. If, for example, a country house is used only in summer, and in winter it is not heated, then wooden and plasterboard ceilings should not be installed, because dampness and cold will contribute to the rapid destruction of materials. For such premises, plastic panels or PVC structures are more suitable.

Temperature changes are not terrible for vinyl film - a stretch fabric made of this material will not lose its appearance either from heat or from cold.

Provided that the house is used all year round and heated in the winter, you can choose wood finishes. Its advantages are durability, safety and environmental friendliness. With proper care, such a ceiling will last a long time.

In this case, drywall is also suitable - it will hide all the flaws. And after installing it, you can decorate the ceiling in different ways: use plaster, paint or wallpaper. Stretch ceilings are resistant to moisture, which is why they are suitable for any room. If you can choose, for example, glossy or matte options for the kitchen or bathroom, then fabric coverings will look more comfortable in the bedroom or office.

When choosing a material, you need to take into account the nuance of how often you have to wash the ceilings, what color and texture is suitable - this is already individual for each family.

In the boiler room, switchboard and other utility rooms, special beauty is not required to be created. There must be cleanliness and order, and in the first place - compliance with all security measures. In the boiler room, all kinds of pipes usually run along the ceiling. You can not close them, but simply plaster and whitewash the ceiling. But if it is really necessary to hide all communications from the eyes, then fire-resistant drywall should be used.

It is also necessary to think over the moment that access to all pipes should be at any moment. Therefore, holes should be left in the required places and provided with gratings, which, if necessary, can be easily opened and the required work carried out.

There are a lot of materials for decorating the ceiling, as well as options for combining different textures. It remains only to think over the design of the room and decide which ceiling is suitable for a particular house, taking into account all the above factors.

If the ceiling from the outside is a roof, then instead of the flooring, the roofing material will be the last layer of the structure.

The most suitable material for the ceiling in a wooden house

For the inside of the ceiling, a large number of materials are suitable. But there are also limitations. For example, it is not recommended to cover the ceiling inside with plastic material. Firstly, the natural atmosphere of the log house is lost, and secondly, plastic can burn.

Conditional scheme of thermal insulation:

  • Suitable insulation;
  • Vapor barrier film;
