Do-it-yourself ottoman - a simple instruction for creating stylish and high-quality furniture (110 photos)

The pouffe is a small and very functional piece of furniture. Its popularity has not diminished over the past few years. Now this useful piece of furniture is popular, as before. Its manufacture can be the first step towards the start of independent production of upholstered furniture. This will allow, first of all, to try your hand and work out the technology.

This short review will describe how to make an ottoman with your own hands. The assembled product will be a great addition to the interior of the living room or hallway.

Choice of design and construction

This item is the easiest to manufacture, so any, even the most novice craftsman, can handle it. Before starting work, first of all, it is necessary to decide on the design of the future product. The study of photos of various ottomans will help in this.

The ottoman can have a rigid frame or do without it at all. Various materials can be used as a frame. The most commonly used classic carpentry materials such as boards, plywood, chipboard.

Ottoman frame

The assembly of this item is not difficult. Let's figure out what and with what materials you can make a pouffe with your own hands. Depending on the design, different tools and materials are used.

Frameless pouffe

The simplest soft ottoman without a rigid frame is made using a minimum set of tools. To do this, it is necessary to sew a lined bag and fill it with granular expanded polystyrene, specially produced in the form of balls for stuffing furniture. Therefore, it is easy to purchase at a hardware store or on the market.

Tire pouffe

A new and quite popular model now is ottomans from an old car tire. Making them is also very easy. This will require an old tire, preferably fixed on a metal disk for rigidity.

If the tire is without a disk, then wooden partitions installed inside the tire can give structural rigidity.

note

In order to make such an ottoman, it is necessary to cut two circles from plywood 3-5 millimeters thick and attach them with screws to the tire from above and below to create horizontal planes. Then, using a quick-drying glue, glue the rope to the surface from the center to the edges with a spiral.

Perhaps such a piece of furniture will not fit into the living room or bedroom, but it may be suitable for a home workshop or office. At the same time, you can try not to finish its surface with a rope, but only stick a soft seat on the upper surface, leaving the rubber intact.

Pouffe from plastic bottles

You can make such furniture from a variety of materials. For example, even plastic bottles, old buckets can be used as a frame, but it is better to use more durable materials. They are not so expensive in price and their consumption is very small.

With their help, you can create an ottoman of any size and shape and add additional structural elements to it: assemble an ottoman with a hinged lid, a drawer for various small things, legs or rollers.

Pouffe made of plywood, chipboard

Quite simply, puffs are made with a frame made of chipboard, wood or plywood. Such products can be heavily loaded and can be used as an ordinary stool.

To create it, sheet material is first cut in accordance with the drawing. It is fastened with screws and wooden bars fixed along the edges of the sheets. Small irregularities will be hidden by soft upholstery and finishing fabric.

The pouffe may have a hinged lid that can be lifted. It will be possible to store small things in it, but for this you need to make a bottom. The lid, depending on the base, can have a different shape: round, square.

Lining

The next step is to attach the soft lining. For these purposes, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is used, which is fastened with building brackets and glue. A decorative covering made of fabric or leather is attached in the same way over soft upholstery.

The color and type of coating determines the design of the product as much as its frame. The finish of the product determines its overall design, so it depends on how the product fits into the interior. Since the product turns out to be quite small, it is quite possible to use the most daring color schemes, which will almost always be appropriate.

In the production of any furniture, the main thing is to patiently complete all the work, carefully following each step. You can make an ottoman with your own hands from almost anything, you can use a wide variety of materials and ideas.

The most important thing is that for this you will be rewarded with a new piece of furniture that will serve you for many years, delighting you with a pleasant appearance.

Everyone can make an ottoman with their own hands, regardless of skill level.

  • Pouffe from plastic bottles.
  • Everyone can make it, for this, take:

    • plastic bottles, 1.5-2 liters;
    • thick cardboard (packaging from under the equipment is suitable);
    • foam rubber;
    • upholstery fabric;
    • scissors;
    • thread, needle;
    • scotch;
    • glue.

    When the ottoman is ready, the hole can be sewn up tightly or a zipper can be sewn in its place.

    Next, start finishing the product - cut out two round and one rectangular parts from foam rubber, be sure to leave a margin for seam allowances. Connect them together with strong stitches. Instead of foam rubber, you can use a synthetic winterizer, insulation or a dense fabric folded in several layers.

    Anyone can make an ottoman with their own hands - both an experienced craftsman and a beginner in this field.

    Some of the available models will be made from plastic bottles or tires.

  • Do-it-yourself ottoman from an old bucket.
  • To create it, you will need the following materials and tools:

    • jute rope;
    • construction glue gun;
    • cardboard;
    • upholstery fabric;
    • microfiber;
    • stapler;
    • large button.

    Remove the handle from the bucket, put it upside down and wind the rope tightly in a circle. In order for it to hold well, each stitch must be planted on glue.

    Instead of foam rubber, you can use a synthetic winterizer, insulation or a dense fabric folded in several layers.

    When the entire bucket is wrapped with rope, proceed to the manufacture of the pouffe seat. From thick cardboard, make a circle corresponding to the diameter of the bucket. From the fabric, also prepare a circle, but 10 centimeters larger. Connect the fabric and cardboard with a button in the center.

    Shape the microfiber into a tube, wind it around the button between the fabric and cardboard, fixing it with a glue gun. Fill the cardboard base with tubes to the brim. The top fabric should be stapled to the back of the cardboard.

    Now glue the part to the base and the work on the ottoman is completed.

    First you need to cut out two equal round parts (or squares if you want to get a square ottoman) of a suitable size - this will be the top and bottom of the ottoman.

  • A tire pouffe is a great idea for a summer house or a living room.
  • Prepare the following materials and tools:

    • old tire;
    • twine (at least 20 meters long);
    • self-tapping screws;
    • glue gun;
    • a sheet of plywood 3-5 millimeters thick;
    • jigsaw;
    • electric drill.

    First you need to measure the inner diameter of the tire until it thickens, divide this value in half and add one and a half centimeters to the result - you get the radius of the desired circle.

    You can also add a strap, thanks to which it will be possible to easily move the product.

    Draw it on a sheet of plywood, cut it out with a jigsaw. You should make two circles - on the seat and the bottom of the ottoman. Then drill holes in the tire and plywood, fasten the parts together with self-tapping screws.

    note

    Now you can glue the rope to the tire. To give the product an unusual pattern, start from the center of the seat, laying the twine with a snail.

    The top fabric should be stapled to the back of the cardboard.

    Use a clear, fast drying, high strength adhesive.

    When the top of the pouf is completely pasted over, proceed to the sides of the tire. To make it easier to attach the twine, turn the product upside down. After the first circle, let the glue dry well to avoid the rope moving.

    Make a case for an ottoman according to the above scheme.

    When the glue dries well, cover the finished pouffe with clear varnish.

    You can decorate the product with legs or wheels.

    Attach buttons, rhinestones or a border to the seams as a decoration.

  • How to make an ottoman quickly without patterns.
  • Prepare for work:

    • the cloth;
    • stuffing material;
    • scissors;
    • needle, thread;
    • measuring tape.

    From the fabric, prepare two identical round elements, the parameters of which are equal to the top and bottom of the product. Set aside a few extra centimeters for the seams.

    First you need to measure the inner diameter of the tire to its thickening.

    Then cut out two equal rectangles - their width is the height of the ottoman, their length is half the circumference of the upper and lower zones.

    Seams can be decorated with ribbons, border.

    On the resulting rectangular elements, sew the seams from one edge so that they form a long ribbon.

    Then you need to sweep the first circle to it, stitch along the seam. Then do the same with the next circle. Seams can be decorated with ribbons, border.

    You should not rush, apply a lot of glue, process the future pouf circle by circle.

    So, without wasting time on patterns, you can make a cover for a pouffe. The filler can be a variety of materials. Place the stuffing opening at the bottom of the product so that the stuffing opening is not conspicuous. When the ottoman is ready, the hole can be sewn up tightly or a zipper can be sewn in its place.

    Following this description, you can build an ottoman cube.

    Following this description, you can build an ottoman cube. The only difference is that all parts should be made square, and there are four of them in the side parts. In order for the product to keep its shape better, use dense fabrics, and choose synthetic winterizer or foam rubber as a filler.

    Do-it-yourself ottoman: step-by-step instructions from a photo for creating original ottomans

    In order to have a new comfortable and original piece of furniture in your home, it is not at all necessary to go to the store and spend a lot of money.

    Of course, it’s better to buy a sofa or a bed, but it’s not difficult to make such an interior detail as an ottoman with your own hands.

    In addition, if you decide to start making an ottoman, you can make it the one that best suits your design.

    You can choose the desired shape, material and color. However, this is not the only advantage of homemade ottomans, since its manufacture may cost nothing at all.

    Soft puffs

    The easiest way is to sew a frameless soft ottoman yourself. To make it, you only need a piece of fabric, stuffing material and a sewing machine.

    Although if there is none, then it is quite possible to do without it by sewing all the details by hand. In order for your ottoman to be even and look beautiful, you need to make a pattern out of paper. It should be a square, at the ends of which triangles will be located.

    According to this template, it is necessary to cut out 8 identical parts from the fabric, not forgetting to leave allowances for the seam. Moreover, you can use both one piece of fabric, and materials of different colors and textures for each of the parts cut out according to the pattern.

    After all the details are ready, you need to stitch them together to form a figure similar to a ball. And in order for the ottoman to be stuffed, bend the top on the triangle of each of its parts inward.

    Filler

    In order for the pouf to keep its shape, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is well suited. But other materials can also be used. As such, even scraps of fabric are suitable.

    To give the ottoman a finished look, you need to close the remaining hole by sewing a circle of material with finished edges. If the edges of a round part are difficult for you to process, then it can be cut in the shape of an octahedron.

    You can simplify the task and sew a pouffe from two round parts that will be the top and bottom of the product, and two rectangular parts that are the sides of the pouffe.

    The height of the ottoman can be adjusted by the width of the rectangle. But the length should always be equal to half the length of the cut circle.

    By sewing rectangular parts, stitching a circle to them and filling them with filler, you can get a round ottoman that will be soft and light. It will become not only a practical piece of furniture, but also a wonderful toy for children, which is impossible to get hurt.

    A cube-shaped ottoman is made in the same way. In this case, instead of two rectangular parts and two circles, you will need 6 squares. Making a cube out of them is not difficult. And if a hidden zipper is sewn into one of the faces, then it will be possible to change the filler and wash the cover.

    Pouffe from plastic bottles

    An ottoman can be made with your own hands and from plastic bottles. They, of course, must have the same volume.

    To do this, the upper part of the bottle, where it begins to narrow, must be cut off and put on the part left without a lid on another bottle of the same type. Repeating this procedure with other bottles, we form a round design of them.

    In order for the bottles not to deform and the pouffe not to lose its shape, we fasten them with adhesive tape.

    note

    In order to close the upper and lower areas, it is necessary to cut a circle from cardboard or chipboard according to the diameter of the connected bottles. We glue foam rubber to these circles, and wrap the pouffe outside with it.

    It remains only to sew a cover for the finished ottoman. On the circle of its upper part, you can sew a zipper.

    Such furniture will save filler. And if the cover is made of raincoat or water-repellent fabric, then such furniture can even be placed on the street.

    In addition, as you can see in the photo, round ottomans, made without a frame and containing plastic bottles inside, practically do not differ in appearance.

    Pouffe with cover

    In order to make a pouffe similar to those sold in stores, carpentry skills and some tools are needed. To begin with, it is worth cutting out 4 rectangular parts from chipboard 33 wide and 40 cm long.

    Use wooden blocks to fasten them together. A square with a side of 40 cm is attached below. As a result, you should get a kind of box.

    This blank from the inside with the help of a construction stapler can be sheathed with material. The square, which will act as a cover, is also sheathed with material from below. And the top, before being covered with upholstery fabric, is pasted over with foam rubber in order to give the ottoman softness.

    Along the entire outer perimeter, the pouf, like the lid, is wrapped with foam rubber. And only then upholstered with material. Loops are used to attach the lid to the cube. To give this piece of furniture mobility, you can attach furniture wheels to the bottom.

    The main thing is that, like a pouf, they have a removable or opening lid. Then you just need to wrap the workpiece with foam rubber or other soft material and put a cover on it.

    All homemade ottomans can perfectly fit not only into the interior of the apartment, but it is also a great option for giving or outdoor recreation. After all, ottomans are light, mobile due to their size and comfortable pieces of furniture.

    They are very suitable for children's rooms, giving the kids the opportunity to comfortably sit on them, or even build castles using pouffes as blocks.

    It is much more convenient to use such a piece of furniture to sit down at a low coffee table, because a homemade pouffe can be made of any height.

    Do-it-yourself ottoman: step-by-step instructions on how to make original and comfortable furniture

    A pouf is a soft low stool. But in the lexicon, a diminutive form of this word has taken root - an ottoman. Who decided to try to make upholstered furniture on their own, an ottoman is the easiest option. In this article, you will receive step by step instructions on how to make an ottoman.

    Options

    Ottomans are made in various shapes and materials of exterior decoration. For a small hallway, you can make a pouffe with a built-in cupboard for storing shoes, for a nursery - a soft ottoman.

    The pouffe looks very respectable as part of a furniture set made of leather. Photos of various ottomans, including handmade ones, are presented on this page.

    Frameless ottoman

    The idea of how to make an ottoman without spending a lot of money can be realized by making it from improvised materials. For example, a soft frameless fabric ottoman.

    For manufacturing you will need:

    • thick fabric
    • Zipper for fastening
    • Sewing machine
    • Whatman for patterns
    • Stuffing material

    First, we make a pattern for the top and bottom of the pouffe. We draw a circle with a diameter of 35-40 cm on whatman paper. Do not forget about seam allowances. We transfer to the fabric, cut.

    We sew a rectangular pattern first to one circle, then to the second. We sew a zipper. We stuff it tightly - the ottoman is ready.

    The sizes given in the description are not dogma, choose them according to your taste. If there are no solid cuts of matter, sew the necessary parts from various pieces of fabric. The best version of a do-it-yourself patchwork ottoman will collect a lot of likes on social networks.

    Ottoman "Pear"

    "Pear" is another version of a frameless pouffe. It uses polystyrene as a filler. Basically, it's a bag with styrofoam inside. It is very comfortable to sit on such a chair because it takes the shape of the body. Our site will tell you how to sew an ottoman bag from improvised materials with your own hands and what you need for this.

    Unlike the previous version, the pear ottoman is made from two bags. They are inserted into each other, and the filler is poured. If necessary, the top cover can be removed and washed.

    The filler bag is made of dense fabric, such as jacquard. The outer cover is made from a variety of fabrics - fantasize about it.

    For each cover you will need a fabric 1.5 m wide and 2.2-2.5 m long. You will need two zippers. For the inner bag - from 40 cm, for the outer one - 1 m.

    The filler is polystyrene. It is a harmless, hypoallergenic filler. Polystyrene is sold in stores for frameless furniture.

    If you make an ottoman-pear according to the most budgetary option, then you can use packaging foam as a filler. Pieces of foam crumble into small balls, but this is a troublesome task.

    We make blanks of parts according to a paper pattern, we sew bags. Then, pour the filler into the inner case. We put on the top cover, we fasten it. Ready.

    Padding

    Another way to make a new piece of upholstered furniture is to reupholster an old one. The choice of fabrics in stores selling furniture components is large. You will find information on how to beautifully sheathe an ottoman with your own hands on our website.

    You will need the following materials and tools for bracing:

    • upholstery fabric
    • Foam rubber - may be needed if the old one began to collapse
    • stapler, staples
    • Sewing machine
    • Scissors, knife, measuring tape

    We disassemble the old ottoman, remove the staples securing the fabric. We carefully unpick the old upholstery, it will serve as a template for a new pattern. In addition, according to the old upholstery, you can calculate the required amount of new fabric. Assess the condition of the foam.

    Foam rubber replacement

    If the old foam began to collapse, then it is easy to replace it. This requires foam rubber of appropriate thickness. Foam rubber with a density of 25-30 kg / m3 is better suited.

    We draw the outline of the ottoman seat on the foam rubber and cut it out with a sharp knife. In the production of furniture, foam rubber is glued to a specialized glue. At home, you can use any glue that does not contain toluene.

    Pouffe with lid

    A pouffe with a lid is very convenient for storing things. For its independent production, you will need simple tools that are available in the arsenal of any home craftsman: a jigsaw, a drill, a stapler. You can find diagrams and drawings of how to make an ottoman with a lid on our website.

    Conclusion

    Making a soft ottoman at home is very simple. This does not require production facilities and expensive equipment. And the master classes of our site will help you with this.

    Do-it-yourself ottoman: how to make an original interior element at home

    Everyone from time to time has a feeling that the interior of their room is outdated or just tired. In both cases, a new piece of furniture does a good job of quickly refreshing the look. For this, something small is best suited, for example, a do-it-yourself ottoman.

    This is not a difficult thing, but in some places the process can turn out to be very interesting and entertaining. There are a lot of areas of application for ottomans, and therefore they can come in handy very often in the house.

    It can be used as an object to eat on, put your feet on, or some things. Depending on the design, objects can also be placed inside the ottoman. But I'm getting ahead of myself a little.

    Why do it yourself?

    If you are going, but still in doubt, to make an ottoman yourself, fearing the complexity of the process - calm down, there is nothing difficult about it. Moreover, there are a number of advantages to this approach.

    First of all, this is because you are not limited to what the market offers you, but start from your own desires. There are a huge number of original DIY ottoman ideas that are freely available on the Internet. I'm not even talking about thematic magazines, which often have detailed instructions for creating.

    Design

    To create this interesting piece of furniture, you do not need any special skills or abilities. This can be done by both a man and a woman, both an adult and a teenager, but what really - even a child of elementary grades can do this.

    It's more about desire and desire. With a little internet searching, you can see models made from a wide variety of materials, such as baskets, tires, and even bottles.

    For example, it is very easy to make a pouffe out of a small box. As a result, you can get an ottoman with a drawer and a lid, while making less effort than it takes to create a stool.

    All that will need to be done is the cover, which it is desirable to attach the attachment mechanism. Further, the matter will stand only for the exterior trim of the pouffe.

    Do not forget that it can also be a basket, to which it is enough to add a frame for strength, and again close it all behind a fabric or other decorative material.

    To do this, you just need to pick up the right bag and go to the building supermarket, where you need to buy polystyrene foam. Basically, that's all you need to do. It really is as simple as it seems at first glance.

    This is exactly what I meant when I said that even a child can make a pouf. In any case, patience is required, but at the end you can get an item that can be useful for a long time.

    Workflow example

    It was not in vain that I spoke earlier about ottomans from bottles. It sounds strange, but we will consider fairly detailed instructions for making this type of ottoman. There is nothing complicated, but the result can pleasantly surprise you.

    I will tell based on personal experience. It wasn't that long ago, so I remember it quite clearly. My nephew's parents were away on business, and I volunteered to take him over for the weekend. He is six years old, he is already old enough, and we decided to do something together.

    I did not consider watching TV, because I wanted to spend time interestingly and actively. The IKEA catalog came to the rescue, which accidentally ended up in the hands of a nephew.

    There he found small stools and pouffes, and said that he would like one for himself, but his parents do not want to buy it yet. After digging a bit on the net, I found that you can make an ottoman from simple plastic bottles.

    We liked the idea, and we took up the materials.

    To tell the truth, I was pleasantly surprised to learn how to make an ottoman with your own hands in the modern world. Bottles weren't a problem - I had a dozen other plastic containers from mineral water in my garage, so that was not a problem. I can only say that it is worth taking bottles of the same height and the same volume.

    Now we have a framework, but no foundations. Plain high density cardboard could have been used, but I decided it was better to use plywood sheets. A little tighter, a little more reliable, in a word, a good option. In addition, you need a lot of foam rubber. It already depends more on whether you want the pouf to be soft or not.

    The furniture was made for the child, so we decided not to save on this. For plywood and foam rubber, we went to a construction supermarket, after which we went to a fabric store, where we picked up the fabric we liked for the outer upholstery.

    Having cut the plywood in the shape of a circle, 2 sheets, we got our bases. We also glued them with adhesive tape to the existing structure. Then they took the foam rubber and glued it around and on top of the structure with glue.

    Then I had to work a little with a needle and sew a cover for the pouffe. As you can see, nothing difficult needed to be done, but at the end we got a beautiful, light and interesting ottoman, which still pleases the owner.

    Soft ottoman in the shape of a cylinder

    First of all, we bring to your attention a master class for making a cylindrical ottoman with your own hands. A pouffe of this classic shape can be placed in the hallway, living room or bedroom.

    For its production we need:

    • chipboard sheet with a thickness of at least 16 mm;
    • wooden blocks 30x20 mm - 8 pcs.;
    • furniture stapler;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • screwdriver;
    • sheets of foam rubber and synthetic winterizer;
    • glue for foam rubber;
    • furniture fabric (tapestry, velor, capitonné, etc.);
    • legs or rollers.

    Having decided on the required size of the future pouf, cut out two circles from sheet chipboard and one of the same from foam rubber.

    We cut out chipboard circles of the required sizes and lumber parts

    Connect the bars and circles, fixing them tightly with screws - the frame for the pouffe is ready.

    We connect circles and beams with self-tapping screws into a frame

    Then, a rectangle should be cut out of the chipboard sheet with a width equal to the height of the frame and fixed around the perimeter, making a wall.

    We fix a sheet of chipboard around the perimeterFully fixed wall

    A circle of foam rubber is glued on the seat, and a synthetic winterizer around the structure.

    Fastening of foam rubber and synthetic winterizer

    A cover is sewn from the selected upholstery fabric according to a scheme similar to the one we used to make blanks for the frame.

    Ready-made cover - the upholstery is put on a wooden structure and fixed at the base of the pouffe with a stapler or nails.

    We put on a cover and fix it from below with a stapler or nails

    It remains to attach the legs and the homemade pouffe is ready!

    Following our step-by-step instructions, you can easily sew a comfortable, original pouffe with your own hands. In the same way, a square pouffe is made, photos and video examples of which can be found in Runet in large numbers.

    Fashionable and modern: pear ottoman

    Next, we will talk about how to sew an ottoman bag with your own hands - a very fashionable piece of furniture in modern interior decor. You think, is it not easier to buy such a corner ottoman in a store? Certainly easier, but much more expensive! And it is for those who value their money and at least a little versed in the field of cutting and sewing, this step-by-step instruction is dedicated.

    To make a soft ottoman pear you will need:

    • dense upholstery fabric - 320x150 mm;
    • fabric for the inner cover - 300x150 mm;
    • expanded polystyrene filler with the addition of holofiber - 0.5-1 cu. meter.;
    • pattern paper;
    • dense threads;
    • lightning - 60 cm.

    The sizes of ottomans are determined mainly by the height of the people who will use them. It is better to equal the tallest member of the family, since people with a smaller stature will in any case be very comfortable on a large bag.

    The inner cover of the pouffe should be made of smooth, sliding, synthetic fabric. Thanks to this choice, the filler will freely move around the bag, taking the form of a person sitting in it.

    Tailoring

    The pouffe pattern consists of six wedges of the bag itself and one lower part for its base.

    First, you need to draw the required details on paper, and then transfer them to the fabric for the inside and outside of the pouffe.

    The parts of the upholstery bag should be slightly larger than those intended for the filler - this will make it much easier for you to put the outer cover on the filler bag.

    The second stage of work will be stitching all the fabric elements of the bag. First, sew the wedges together, and then proceed to the base.

    Don't forget to leave room for the zipper on the outer cover - the zipper will make it easier to care for the bean bag chair and allow you to update the cover at any time.

    When both bags are ready, fill the inner bag with filler to 2/3 of its volume and carefully sew the remaining sections. Put on a decorative cover from above and fasten the zipper. The pouf is ready!

    Despite the fact that such soft ottomans with a back are made at home, they will look great in any of the rooms of your house, adding coziness and comfort to them. In a similar way, you can equip a soft spot for a dog with your own hands, only much smaller.

    A practical piece of furniture - a pouffe with a storage box

    We bring to your attention a brief description of the manufacture of a do-it-yourself ottoman, which will combine several practical functions:

    • pouffe transformer with one movement of the hand is able to turn from a soft seat into a storage place for many different items;
    • an ottoman with a drawer is perfect for dressing tables, because you can not only sit comfortably on it, but also put a lot of hairdressing accessories inside, such as irons, curlers, hair stylers and other items;
    • you can not only sit down on a homemade ottoman, undressing in the hallway, but also use it at the same time as a cabinet for shoes or for storing shoe care products.

    Materials for work:

    • chipboard sheet;
    • wooden beam with a section of 4x4 cm;
    • wood glue;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • hacksaw;
    • construction stapler for furniture;
    • screwdriver or screwdriver;
    • foam rubber;
    • synthetic winterizer;
    • upholstery fabric (velor, eco-leather, suede, capitonné, etc.);
    • butt loops;
    • furniture rollers.

    Stages of work

    From a chipboard sheet, it is necessary to cut blanks of the following sizes:

    • 37x40 cm - 2 pcs;
    • 37x37 cm - 2 pcs;
    • 40x40 cm - 2 pcs.

    Cut out four pieces of 37 cm from a wooden beam - this will be the height of the ottoman. Next, you should assemble the box - all the side fragments are joined together, after which the bars are glued in the inner corners.

    From the outside, all parts of the structure are fixed with self-tapping screws. Glue is applied to the bottom of the timber and the bottom of the box is glued. Then you need to let the glue dry well, after which, for reliability, screw in the screws.

    Small bars-stoppers for the cover of the ottoman

    The box is pasted over with synthetic winterizer, and then, using a furniture stapler, it is sheathed with upholstery fabric. For mobility of the product, rollers can be attached to its underside.

    The manufacture of the cover, which acts as a soft and comfortable seat, is carried out as follows: we glue a synthetic winterizer, and then foam rubber, to one of the surfaces of a chipboard sheet measuring 40x40 cm.

    Thus, the pillow will be soft, but at the same time keep its shape.

    On this do-it-yourself wooden ottoman is ready!

    Ideas for ottomans from improvised means

    Consider options for ottomans with original design. As a filler and frame, ordinary objects, tire bottles and rags serve here.

    bottles

    An unusual creation do-it-yourself ottoman from plastic bottles. Bottles need to be fastened in a round shape and fixed with tape. The bottom and top of the product are made of cardboard.

    The bases are made of foam. They are fixed with tape. The cover is made of beautiful fabric. You can see the design of the bottles on a photo. A similar item is suitable for decorating a living room.

    Tires

    Interesting models can be made from tires. How to make an ottoman depends on the availability of improvised materials and skill. Tires need to be fastened together. Inside is placed a material similar to foam rubber. Then the holes are closed with thin boards. A soft base is mounted on top and a cover is put on. To design the design, you need to use dense fabrics.

    Ottomans for children

    To make an ottoman with your own hands, you can use the drawings and diagrams. For the manufacture of products used bright and colorful fabrics. Try these options:

  • It looks interesting model, made of two pieces of material of different colors. Solid color fabric can be used at the bottom.
  • A wonderful solution - square-shaped designs.
  • The original composition will be obtained by using fabrics of different colors.
  • Kids will love the cone shaped ottoman.
  • You can even sleep on a long ottoman. To make it, you will need flat pillows and a long blanket. Pillows are placed in a fabric cover and are fixed in place.
  • Ottoman in the interior with different designs

    The choice of ottoman option largely depends on the type of room. For the hallway, you should choose frame models with a rigid base. Cylindrical designs allow you to smooth out the angularity of the room. For a comfortable stay in the living room, models with soft upholstery are suitable. To create an accent, you should choose a product from a material with a bright color palette.

    Round pouffes are ideal for small spaces. Rectangular is recommended to be placed near armchairs and sofas. The product for the kitchen should be made of moisture resistant fabrics. For a child, you need to choose safe, comfortable and soft models.

    We hope that our master classes will help you find out in detail how to make an ottoman yourself from simple materials. Homemade products will add comfort and coziness to any room. Original seats are suitable for different interiors.

    The pouffe has long been a sought-after piece of furniture. Due to its geometrically simple shape, the ottoman takes up a minimum of usable space and at the same time accepts any decor and decoration, organically fitting into any interior. As an interior detail, a pouffe is appropriate both in spacious apartments and in a cramped budget apartment. As an auxiliary (utilitarian) element of furniture, the pouffe is also convenient because it can serve as a storage for small items that need to be kept at hand, and the material for this can be found in almost any trash at hand, see below.

    This article tells you how to make an ottoman with your own hands. Prices for simple economy class pouffes are generally not frightening, but the satisfaction from productive independent work cannot be expressed in money. As well as the knowledge that you can still make the right thing yourself, not inferior to the factory one, and now you can try to take on more difficult work. If it is furniture or other carpentry and / or sewing products, then the ottoman is the most suitable initial step in this case. As for the representative interior poufs in the living room or bedroom, the difference in the price of the purchased and the cost of materials for an equivalent home-made one can reach 6 or even 15 times, see for example. video:

    Puff or what?

    Let us first define the scope of the topic of today's article. Any products belong to one or another type in their class not for the sake of formality and not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of manufacturing technology; we set ourselves the goal of making our ottoman as simple and inexpensive as possible.

    The weakest points of cabinet furniture are the joints of the legs with the supporting base, therefore, interior pouffes are made either without legs at all (pos. 1 in the figure), or with invisible furniture legs-buttons. The utilitarian pouffe for rooms with not always perfectly clean floors is raised on legs, but so that they do not protrude beyond its contour in terms of and are not conspicuous when viewed from a height of human growth, pos. 2. If the legs go beyond the contour of the seat itself, then this is no longer a pouffe, but a bench, pos. 3. If the supporting structure of a product of this kind is also visible, then a soft stool is obtained, pos. four.

    Note: The furniture leg-button is a 1x15 nail with a plastic cap concave at the top with a diameter of 20 mm and a height of 5 mm. Legs-buttons are completed with budget / economy cabinet furniture or, by default, custom-made for self-assembly.

    Round or square?

    The seat of the ottoman is always soft, or it is all soft frameless, hence the name. A round ottoman is most often a classic interior design, so as not to cling to corners with your feet and while sitting you can turn in all directions. Utility puffs are often made square - so it is much easier to attach both a hinged and a removable cover to the base box.

    Note: rectangular ottomans are not made elongated in length, because. from this one of the main advantages of the pouf is lost - compactness. With a seat side length ratio of approx. up to 1:2, the usable area taken away is still equal to the square of the larger side. With further “stretching” of the seat, it increases more slowly, but this again turns out to be a banquette or bench.

    Dimensions

    Since the pouf is most needed in a cramped room, where you need to spin on it without getting up, its dimensions are smaller than typical for other types of seats. The typical dimensions of an adult pouffe are 350 mm high and the seat diameter or side of its square is 300 mm. The child on the pouffe not only spins, but also fidgets, so the children's ottoman is made with the seat in the same plan. Possibly reduced to D(220...250) or (220...250)x(220...250); the sides are equal in length. However, the child needs less height of the pouf, 180 ... 250 mm, depending on his height, but in a different proportion. If the height of an adult pouffe is approx. 1/5 of the average height of a person, then the children's pouf should be made a little higher, approx. 1/4 - 1/3.5 of the child's height. So it is necessary "for growth", otherwise it will be necessary either to make a new ottoman about once every six months, or anomalies in the formation of the child's musculoskeletal system are possible.

    Soft

    Soft interior puffs without legs are also called boudoir, although it would be more correct to call them harem - the first puffs were brought to Europe by crusader knights. Well-groomed harem sirens walked around their prisons, inaccessible to outsiders, in the lightest negligee or even in what mother gave birth to. In a hot climate without air conditioning, the touch of the most delicate parts of the body on hard surfaces and the edges of cabinet furniture irritated them extremely, and the call of the owner and ruler was supposed to go in a cloudless mood.

    The classic boudoir pouffe is a small bag made of selected jute burlap with a wooden circle tightly inserted into it to the bottom, reinforced from the inside with hoops and vertical stripes of whalebone. Then, carefully cleaned and combed horse hair was placed in spiral strands in the base container, also kneading it tightly. After that, the neck of the bag was sewn up and a camel hair pillow was sewn to it. Then a silk, brocade or muslin decorative cover with decorations was pulled over the blank. They didn’t do cotton padding, it quickly soaked with sweat and rotted. Pouffes of this design did not last long, then the then (and present) eastern rulers did not care at all.

    Real boudoir

    A round soft ottoman, which is better in terms of convenience and much more durable than a classic boudoir, can be made from modern materials according to the scheme in fig. on right. Unfortunately, it is unsuitable for a square pouffe - both the cover and the upholstery will crawl around the corners. The foot base is assembled on PVA: it gives an adhesive layer that retains elasticity for many years. At present, book dealers everywhere use PVA for the restoration of books, and they are the public for what really picky and meticulous.

    The technical fabric for the gaskets between the layers of foam rubber must be natural: jute matting or hemp burlap is best; linen canvas is glued and held in place rather poorly, slippery. Synthetics, eg. propylene matting is not suitable - PVA does not hold it well, and silicone and adhesives on organic solvents corrode foam rubber. At the end of gluing the base, it is covered with the same technical fabric; you can simply tightly pull the cylindrical sleeve with a sewn-in bottom. A decorative cape is put on or thrown over the rough cover - you're done.

    The main thing in the manufacture of such a pouffe is to choose the right foam rubber (the numbers of the brands in the figure indicate its density in g / cubic dm). A sample of the material in the store is squeezed with fingers until it stops. If they are sharply unclenched, good furniture foam rubber "shoots" instantly, literally without breaking away from their pads. If the foam rubber straightens quickly, without a residual dent, not noticeable to the eye, it is suitable for frame furniture fillers, but not in our case. And the technical foam straightens out quite slowly, and a cavity remains on it for quite a long time (several seconds and even minutes).

    Note: furniture foam rubber with a density of up to 60 and even 85 is sometimes found on sale. It will fit even better on the lower layers of the base of a round soft pouffe; the upper ones remain the same, with a density of 25 and 35.

    "Semi-soft"

    Still, it is not recommended for strong men or portly matrons to sit on a “real boudar” ottoman in a modern version. In fact, eastern fairies in the old days were valued for their pomp of physique (literally, in slave markets), but a whalebone to strengthen the structure is currently not available due to the complete ban on whaling, and big chemistry does not yet offer a full-fledged substitute for it. Therefore, it is better to make an interior pouffe for corpulent heavy riders also frameless, but “semi-soft” from a foot of tires of the required height (see above). A single padded stool from a tire from a small car or scooter is more suitable for a child, see below.

    The technology for manufacturing an “adult” ottoman from tires is simple:

    Hardy from a single tire

    The previous model of the pouffe will not last long if you roll it on its side and roll it, get mad at it, poke toys at it - well, those who have acquired miracle heirs know what they are capable of. If so, it is better to make a children's ottoman from one tire with a rough sheathing of increased wear resistance. It is desirable to put it on plastic screw legs for kitchen furniture, see fig. on right.

    They are cheap, but terribly strong, and turning them out is beyond the power of any other adult - they are attached at 4 points. An additional advantage in this quality is a large height adjustment limit, which solves the problem of the ergonomics of the ottoman "for growth". The disadvantage is that they miss the best linoleum with a protective layer thinner than 0.6 mm, but literate parents do not lay linoleum on the nursery floor.

    A master class in pictures on making a children's ottoman from a tire with a strong hardy rough sheathing with a rope twist is shown in the figure:

    The features of the work are as follows:

    • Wrapping only on high-quality hot glue.
    • Sizing during wrapping is carried out in sections of 10-20 cm.
    • Each subsequent section of the rope is laid only after the glue has completely cured under the previous one.
    • The free (running) end of the rope (especially when wrapping the sidewalls) is kept slightly taut, at the bottom left in fig.
    • After squeezing out the next portion of the glue, the rope is pressed tightly, without pressing down with your fingers, otherwise the winding will turn out to be uneven.
    • Having laid the next piece of rope on the glue "sausage", its running end is held without moving until the glue hardens.
    • The finished winding on the workpiece is impregnated with acrylic varnish (bottom right in the figure), regardless of whether a decorative cover will be put on it, because. only on glue the winding will not last long - it will go to be soaked and come off.

    Note: for a “real adult” puff of several tires, the described technology, contrary to the assertion of many sources, is of little use - in the gaps between the tiers of the foot of the tires, it is difficult to lay the turns of the rope evenly and close to each other.

    "Hard" puffs

    An ottoman on a rigid basis is somewhat more difficult to make, and more materials will be needed for it. But “hard” poufs have a decisive advantage for small, cramped and utility rooms - the internal volume of the ottoman can be useful.

    The simplest

    Still, nothing can be stored in the simplest versions of a utilitarian pouffe - an extremely simple and cheap technology does not allow organizing a receptacle for anything in an ottoman. But such a seat can do for nothing, except for the material of the cape; however, it can also be sewn from cash balances.

    The most accessible base material in this case is empty PET bottles with a capacity of 2-2.5 liters, they are just the right height. How to make an ottoman from plastic bottles is shown in the figure:

    Base 2-tier; 14 bottles are required for each tier. Holes are cut in the bottoms of the containers of the upper tier, into which the necks of the lower bottles tightly fit. Then the base is turned over, because. the corks of the initially upper, and now the lower bottles will be the legs of the pouffe. The whole package is pulled together with adhesive tape, then foam rubber or synthetic winterizer with a thickness of 30 mm or more is placed on the bottoms of the bottles (20 mm is not enough, the protrusions of the bottoms will be felt as a “fifth point”. The rough lining is made of packaging cardboard also on adhesive tape. There is no point in using more expensive materials on the base - the bottles will wash out from the sides pretty soon, but in the meantime you can make the ottoman more impressive.The only detail that requires more or less high-quality workmanship is a decorative cover (bottom right in the figure), because it will serve on several ottomans.

    A more durable simple ottoman is obtained from cardboard tubes - cores from soft roll materials, see next. rice. They are very durable and resistant, so it would be better to make the bottom and the base of the seat out of plywood, and wrap the base of the fiberboard (pos. 6, you can use an inexpensive draft, not painted and not laminated); in this embodiment, rough trim for decorative is not needed.

    Note: if the simplest ottoman on a rigid base is needed “forever”, its base is made of 15 mm plywood (see the drawings in the figure on the right). The seat padding is the same as before. options. Rough trim is needed only on the seat; decorative cape freely falling.

    Non-traditional option

    An excellent basis for a durable simple pouffe is also cable drums and wire reels. They are produced with a core diameter from 1 cm to 2-3 m or more. It is difficult to adapt the core cavity for storage, but you can arrange a hiding place there, which, as a rule, falls out of the attention of burglars; if it comes to a search by the secret services, they, of course, will probe everything with their devices.

    However, it makes little sense to search for the base of the seat and the bottom of the ottoman for the cheeks of cable drums of large numbers (on the left in the figure). And not only because making a pouf out of them is quite a serious job for a skilled craftsman. Large cable drums are returnable containers, and the return is usually specified by the manufacturer in the supply contract. Therefore, finding a “new, good” large used cable drum is a matter of chance, and those that have reached their technical wear and tear are likely to be unusable.

    It is much easier to buy cheap, firstly, reels for computer cables and electrical wires with cardboard cores (in the center of the figure). In order for the ottoman from such a coil to serve for a long time, a little trick is needed: its plywood cheeks must be cut so that their protrusion beyond the core is 1.5-2 cm. the smaller shoulder of the conditional lever, and the core will quickly begin to wrinkle. If the cheeks are cut off, the focus of pressure from the person sitting will shift to the center of the seat, the core will be pressed by a larger arm of the lever, the force from which will drop at times.

    Plastic coils from thin electrical and winding wires (on the right in the figure) do not need modifications to the base for the ottoman - they are already very durable. The disadvantage is that foam rubber and synthetic winterizer do not stick to them, but a round pillow can be used for a soft seat pad; pressing into the stiffening ribs of the cheeks, it will lock quite securely in place.

    Note: poufs on a rigid frame (see fig.) are durable, but have all the disadvantages of a pouffe made from the cheeks of cable drums - not cheap high-quality material is required, technologically complex, heavy, the internal cavity is not a usable volume. It is advisable to make an ottoman in this way only if it is complex in terms of shape and forms part of the headset, on the right in Fig.

    Ottoman-chest

    The ability to adapt the inner cavity of the pouffe for storage in fairly simple ways is its important advantage. An ottoman in the hallway of a small apartment, for a workshop on the balcony; perhaps to the country house or to the garage, consider that it must be made with a pouf-chest - otherwise there may simply not be a suitable place for things that are always necessary on demand (for example, accessories for shoe care).

    There are two “critical points” in the design of an ottoman with a receptacle for the necessary little things: the supporting structure and the cover. Let's try to figure out how to make them simpler, from available materials and / or more convenient.

    The traditional design of an ottoman-chest is shown on the left in fig. This is essentially a real chest with soft lining. “Chests like chests” are large, so the ottoman-chest can be simplified by making only its supporting frame, bottom and seat base rigid (drawings in the center in the figure). In this design, with the indicated dimensions (an enlarged ottoman for the workshop, in which a power tool is placed - a drill, grinder, electric jigsaw), plywood from 12 mm is needed only under the seat, and the bottom can be made from 3-4 mm plywood.

    A hinged lid on a piano hinge, as on the left in the figure, is also generally not needed for an ottoman-chest - anyway, you need to get up to open it. A removable seat cover is enough; dimensions on the right in fig. Cover skirt made of slats 30x30; base made of 12 mm plywood; the rest is furniture foam rubber 45 and upholstery. If the ottoman-chest is interior and will be used by the fair sex, then for their convenience it is worth trying and making a hinged lid with a balancing mechanism, see for example. video clip:

    We hope that our master classes will help you find out in detail how to make an ottoman yourself from simple materials. Homemade products will add comfort and coziness to any room. Original seats are suitable for different interiors.

    Quite often, our favorite items that we use for a relatively long time lose their original appearance or simply get bored. Sometimes it happens that there is a desire to make repairs and update the interior of the room, but at the same time not to part with your favorite piece of furniture, which, in its style or color, does not fit into the new design. And if we are talking about such items as soft pouffes, it is enough to change their lining, and they will be able to please you for many years to come, making life more comfortable and cozy. Covering the pouffe with new fabric and soft lining, you will get a completely new piece of furniture that will fully match its style and your taste. If you still do not know how to sheathe a pouffe yourself, then this article is for you.

    Our story will also be useful for those home craftsmen who are going to sew an ottoman from burlap, leather, old jeans with their own hands or make it from plywood and cover it with upholstery fabric. After reading the article, you will be convinced that these processes do not require special knowledge and experience in furniture upholstery. Possessing elementary cutting skills and knowing how to sew fabric parts together, you can easily cope with the task.

    To perform finishing work, you will need the following tools and materials:

    • decorative fabric for upholstery;
    • cut of synthetic winterizer or foam rubber;
    • furniture stapler;
    • glue gun;
    • sewing machine.

    Upholstery fabric selection

    To begin with, you need to choose what stylistic solution your new easy chair will have. Depending on the style, I cover the ottomans with various fabrics of dense texture - tapestry, suede, velor, velvet, eco leather, eco fur and other materials.

    Furniture velor

    So, for example, a pouffe covered with satin or brocade fabric is perfect for a classic design.

    Satin for padded poufs

    If you are planning to decorate a room in ethnic style, then a matting pouffe will look very good in it.

    Modern interior styles are perfectly complemented by original pieces of furniture made in the patchwork style.

    Patchwork furniture

    To make such a cover, you will need several patches of dense fabric in contrasting colors, from which identical wedges should be cut and sewn together. It will turn out a very bright and stylish seat for an ottoman. The sides of the chair cover can be cut out of a plain fabric that matches the color tone of one of the patches.

    Stages of work

    Take your old ottoman or make a pouffe frame from chipboard or plywood sheets. In accordance with its size, make patterns from the prepared fabric.

    We make patterns

    According to the size of the seat, we cut out a blank from foam rubber.

    Fitting the lid

    Next, you need to measure and sum up the width of all the sides of the pouffe. According to the measurements obtained, taking into account the height of the product, we cut out a piece of synthetic winterizer and sheathe the side parts with it. We fix the synthetic winterizer with a furniture stapler.

    We fit the sides

    For the convenience of performing these works, you can first apply special glue to the walls of the pouffe frame. In the same way, fix the foam blank on the seat of the chair. Attach the patterns cut out of the upholstery fabric with a stapler to a soft base, tucking the edges.

    We apply a decorative pattern

    At the joints of the parts, glue a suitable decorative cord or apply a decorative pattern on the sides.

    The pouf is ready

    Another way to update the ottoman with your own hands is to sew a cover from the selected material. This option will be more practical, since if necessary, it can be removed, washed and pulled over the pouffe again.

    Case update

    To do this, fabric patterns must be tacked together and stitched on a sewing machine.

    We make patterns

    We sew all the details

    After we sew all the details together, it is necessary to cut off the excess fabric and smooth out the seams with an iron.

    Trim excess seam allowances for a snug fit

    The bottom edge must be hemmed on a typewriter or manually and also ironed. We turn the cover inside out and put it on the pouffe, straightening the folds.

    We put on a cover

    On this, work on the updated pouffe is not completely finished - if desired, it can be decorated. For example, a large button can be sewn into the middle of the patchwork seat, having previously covered it with decorative material in the color of the sides.

    An ottoman trimmed with ruffles or lace is perfect for a bedroom or a nursery for a girl.

    Pouffe decor option for the bedroom

    The fringe sewn on the bottom will look good on a product designed for a baroque or classic interior.

    Baroque fringed pouffe

    Upholstery replacement for pear chair

    Pouf pear

    If your favorite bag chair has lost its former beauty due to the wear of the fabric on the outer shell, then you will have to restore the ottoman. Of course, you can throw it away and buy a new one, but believe me, repairing it will be more enjoyable and less expensive than buying a new bag.

    If the inner burlap is in good condition, and the filler has not shrunk and still holds the shape of the chair, then you will be able to quickly update the product.

    The simplest option is to remove the old cover from the bag and, in accordance with the shapes and sizes of its wedges, cut out new blanks from the fabric. To do this, we select a dense and strong material for the new outer shell of the bag, make a pattern and sew all the details together from the wrong side. Then we cut off all the excess fabric, steam the seams with an iron and turn the product inside out. We sew in a zipper and update our old pear ottoman by putting a new and beautiful outer cover on it.

    By the same principle, you can sew a stylish and fashionable ottoman from old jeans. It will look pretty good in a children's room or a youth apartment. To do this, you will need several pairs of unnecessary jeans and a great desire to sew an ottoman out of them.

    We cut the legs lengthwise, cutting off the seams We sort the patches by color We sew the whole fabric The finished jeans chair

    If you already have filled burlap, you just have to make a pattern on paper, examples of which can be easily found on the net, and transfer it to pieces of jeans that were previously ripped at the seams.

    When choosing a pattern, keep in mind that the width of the wedges for the bag chair should be no more than the width of the legs.

    Now you know how to sheathe an ottoman at home with your own hands and you can easily give new life to your old, but very beloved, soft and cozy pieces of furniture.

    Having made a stylish ottoman with your own hands, you can refresh the interior of the bedroom, make it more cozy and comfortable. This compact piece of furniture is not only a beautiful decorative accessory, but also very functional. It can be used as a table, upholstered seat, footrest, as well as for storing various small items.

    In this article, we will consider various options for self-manufacturing a pouffe for a bedroom. You are waiting for step-by-step instructions, photos and videos with master classes.

    Making your own ottoman is not so difficult. This is within the power of both experienced craftsmen and needlewomen, and beginners. For its manufacture, a variety of materials at hand are suitable, which do not require large financial investments. You can make puffs of any shape, size and filling: round, square, cylindrical, pear-shaped, with or without a solid frame. The ability to decorate hand-made products to your liking, in accordance with the style of the room, will harmoniously fit them into the interior.

    Ottomans for the bedroom: options and common models

    Modern bedroom ottomans vary in design, shape, size and design. Their main feature is the absence of a back. They can be on wheels, on small legs or without them at all. As a rule, their height is slightly less than that of standard chairs, but there are also very low models. By design, poufs come with a solid frame and frameless.

    Frame puffs are made of durable materials: wood, chipboard and plywood. Inside the models it is convenient to store linen and other trifles. On such a bedside ottoman, you can fold a bedspread and decorative pillows for bedtime. They can be fully upholstered with soft padding, which is covered with fabric, leather or fur. Sometimes only the seats are made soft, and the rest of the surfaces are covered only with upholstery materials. Most often, this design has an ottoman for a dressing table, replacing a bulky chair.

    Frameless models are bags of various shapes filled with soft materials, such as synthetic winterizer, foam rubber, holofiber or expanded polystyrene. They can be in the form of a ball, cube, cylinder, pear, flower, etc. Covers for this type of ottomans are sewn from dense fabrics or leather, knitted from yarn, woven from various durable ribbons.

    By appointment, poufs in the interior are divided into several categories. Poufs-banquettes are used for sitting and storing things.

    Bedside pouffes, as a rule, are part of the bedroom set, and are made in the same style as the bed.

    Transforming poufs can easily turn into a compact armchair with a back, into a fairly spacious box for storing children's toys, and even into a table.

    How to make an ottoman with your own hands

    It will not be difficult to make an original and high-quality ottoman if you choose the right materials and tools, and strictly follow the sequence of stages of the creative process.

    For the manufacture of models with a frame, wooden boards, chipboard, rattan and thick plywood are suitable. Depending on the model chosen, you will need furniture legs or wheels.

    A variant of the manufacture of a round ottoman made of wood.

    Holofiber, synthetic winterizer, polyurethane foam and foam rubber can be used as upholstery for frames and filling soft ottomans.

    Durable fabrics, natural and artificial leather, fur and decorative cords are suitable for covers and outer covering of frame products. It is better to choose the fabric depending on the design and style of the puffs. It can be cotton, linen, nylon, microfiber, tapestry, jacquard, chenille or thick satin.

    It will help to make a do-it-yourself ottoman with a master class, the video of which is shown below.

    We decide on the design and construction of the product

    When choosing the design of the pouffe, which is planned to be made with your own hands, you should take into account the level of skill of the author. For those who have carpentry skills, it will not be difficult to make wooden ottomans with lids and drawers.

    Drawing of an ottoman with a lid

    It is better for beginner needlewomen to give preference to frameless pouffes, products made from unusual materials, for example, from plastic bottles, buckets, tires or ready-made wooden boxes.

    Here is such a wonderful ottoman for the bedroom can be made from an unnecessary car tire.

    Experienced seamstresses can easily create unique soft ottomans of any shape, with covers from a variety of materials.

    The design of the handicraft should be chosen according to the style of the room. For apartments in a classic style, poufs of strict shape on elegant wooden and metal legs or on wheels are perfect. It is better to use expensive and luxurious fabrics as upholstery, and fringe, decorative cords and beautiful handles for decoration.

    For the interior of rooms in more modern styles, you can choose models upholstered in leather, fur, fabrics with beautiful and original patterns. Soft puffs-bags of various shapes with covers made of various fabrics or knitted from yarn are also perfect.

    How to make an ottoman from a stool

    From an old stool that has lost its visual appeal, but still strong, you can make a beautiful and spectacular ottoman in the bedroom, which will add fresh notes to its interior. To do this, you will need upholstery fabric, foam rubber, glue and any decorative elements, such as cords, ribbons, fringe, large beads. The choice of decor depends on the style of the bedroom, taste preferences and the flight of fancy of the author of the man-made accessory.

    First, we suggest watching a short video on the topic:

    Having prepared all the necessary materials, you can start making a pouffe by following the step-by-step instructions below.

    1. Cut out a circle with a diameter of 50 cm from the foam rubber and glue it on the seat of the stool.
    2. Make a blank for the sides with a size of 35 * 120 cm and a round blank with a diameter of 50 cm from the upholstery fabric.
    3. Make a basting line along the edge of the round blank and pull it off slightly.
    4. Sew adhesive tape onto the narrow edges of the blank for the sidewalls and hem the bottom edge.
    5. Sew the top edge of the rectangular blank to the circle and overlay the edge.
    6. Decorate the seams on the front side of the resulting cover with a ribbon or cord. Decorate with other decorative elements as desired.

    The finished cover is put on a stool, and it turns into a comfortable home-made ottoman with a soft seat.

    How to sheathe an ottoman

    Fitting an ottoman is an important stage in its creation, requiring patience and accuracy. To upholster an ottoman with your own hands, you will need foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, selected material, furniture stapler and glue.

    First you need to make a blank for the seat from foam rubber and glue it. Then cut out a rectangle from the synthetic winterizer, corresponding in size to the height of the sidewalls and the sum of the widths of all four sides. Next, a layer of glue is applied to the frame and a synthetic winterizer blank is glued. For greater strength, it is better to fix it with a furniture stapler.

    The final stage of work is fitting the ottoman with a cloth or other selected material. First you need to cut blanks for the seat, sidewalls and bottom, not forgetting to make allowances for the gates. Then attach these parts with a stapler. It is better to decorate the finished ottoman with various decorative elements.

    In this way, you can transform an old wooden ottoman, the upholstery of which has lost its former attractiveness.

    For sheathing the ottoman, you can use leather, which is attached with a furniture stapler.

    Knitted ottoman with your own hands

    Like all frameless models, a knitted ottoman consists of a bag with filler and a removable cover. Such an accessory is best suited for interiors in a modern style, as well as minimalism, art deco, hi-tech. It can be given any shape: ball, hemisphere, cube, cylinder, flower, etc.

    By the way! Knitted puffs of bright saturated colors will look great in a children's room.

    Covers knitted from yarn can also be worn on frame models. Such pouffes will perfectly complement the interior of a bedroom in Provence, Scandinavian, eco- and ethnic styles.
    You can crochet or knit a pouffe. The choice of knitting technique and pattern depends on the skill of the needlewoman.

    To make a round model with your own hands, you must first sew a bag out of dense fabric and fill it with foam rubber, padding polyester or other material that is at hand. Then you should start making a cover from yarn or coarse threads. Most often they are knitted with a pearl pattern, i.e. alternate front and back loops in each row.

    Knitted ottoman with knitting needles

    To knit an ottoman with knitting needles, you will need to make two circles, the diameter of which should correspond to the size of the filler bag. Then you need to sew the edges of the blanks to the middle, and sew a zipper on the rest. The finished cover is put on the inner bag, the zipper is fastened and the original ottoman is ready.

    By the same principle, you can make a product of any other shape and crochet an ottoman from yarn or ribbons.

    Do-it-yourself ottoman cover

    You can make a removable cover for an ottoman of any shape with your own hands. To do this, it is not necessary to make a pattern, it is enough to measure its dimensions and you can get to work.

    So, to sew a cover for a square ottoman you will need:

    • the cloth;
    • threads;
    • sticky tape or zipper;
    • decorative elements for decoration.

    Stages of work:

    1. Measure the size of the pouffe cover, cut out the workpiece, making allowances for the seams of 3 cm.
    2. Cut a blank for the sidewalls, the width of which is equal to the height of the pouf, and the length is equal to the sum of the widths of all its sides. At the same time, do not forget about seam allowances: 3 cm along the top and side edges, 5 cm along the bottom.
    3. Sew adhesive tape or a zipper onto the narrow part of the blank for the sidewalls.
    4. Sew both blanks, wrap the edges, and hem the bottom edge with a seam in the hem.
    5. Turn product right side out. Sew on a decorative cord, ribbon or fringe along the seam line. Decorate with decorative embellishments to your liking.

    In this way, you can sew a cover on an ottoman of a cylindrical, rectangular and any other shape.

    Ottomans, like all handmade things, will fill the room with positive energy and become its exclusive and stylish decoration. Due to their versatility, they will become an indispensable piece of furniture in any home. Making these practical and beautiful decorative accessories will bring real pleasure to their author, and his hand-made masterpieces will delight households for many years.
