How to fix vertical blinds from fabric slats with your own hands. How horizontal blinds are attached How to fix blinds on horizontal plastic windows

Large windows in an apartment or house are, of course, good. A lot of daylight enters the room, especially if the windows are new from a profile or wood, allowing you to maximize the glass area. However, often there is too much sunlight, especially if the windows face south or east. There are several ways to save yourself from the scorching sun, and the simplest and most optimal of them can be installing blinds on windows with your own hands. Other options include replacing the double-glazed window with tinted glass or using window tint. Only this option is much more expensive and not as effective if you want to block the access of sunlight to the room as completely as possible.

Types of blinds and fastening features

At the moment, window manufacturers provide a wide range of blinds of various configurations and the possibility of making them for specific window sizes. Among the possible variations, there are several main types of blinds:

  • vertical;
  • horizontal;
  • rolled (fabric, internal roller shutters).

The option of installing vertical blinds in a residential apartment or your home is rather doubtful. Still, they are too strongly associated with office space. However, they are also suitable for some interior design solutions. They are mounted above the window, in fact, instead of curtains, which further limits their usefulness.

A more extensive number of mounting options is provided by the use of horizontal blinds. They can be installed both over the window opening and along the outer edge on the upper slope of the window and directly on the window structure, while installing individual blinds for each sash. The last two options will go well with any curtains and curtains, and choosing the last type of installation on the window itself will not take up any space on the windowsill. Roller shutters are also mounted directly on each glass.

Everyone should choose the appropriate option on their own, based on their preferences and requirements.

Common ways to attach blinds

Having decided on the type of blinds to be installed, you can go to order them from a good window manufacturer. It is better, of course, to turn to the same one that made your windows. When ordering, you will need to give the detailed dimensions of the window or the dimensions you require when it comes to blinds installed over the window opening. Blinds are made quickly enough, the technologies have been worked out as well as the production of the windows themselves, especially since the design is quite simple.

Along with the blinds themselves, as a rule, an instruction is also attached, which tells in sufficient detail how to install the blinds. The whole process is quite simple, and everything can be done by hand. If you have some skills in working with a screwdriver, you have the necessary drills, screwdrivers and a ruler with a pencil, then you can start the installation process and do not need the help of a master installer.

It is worth considering in detail the option of installing horizontal blinds directly on the frame of each section of the window and sash. This process is the most complex and visual. Note that the installation of roller shutters occurs in a similar way.

So, in the packaging from the manufacturer there is everything you need to install the blinds. The main part is wound with fishing line and control chain. All additional parts and screws are packed in bags. Everything is carefully unwound, and all trim is removed from the eaves of the blinds. There are several ways to fix the blinds on the window sash:

  1. fasten with screws;
  2. use mounting brackets;
  3. the old fashioned way, by drilling holes in the wall;

In the version with screws, holes will inevitably be made in the window profile. This is a reliable and durable method of fastening, especially since the tightness of the entire window and the profile in particular will not be affected. However, for some, this may not be suitable, if only because the blinds may have to be removed, and then the holes will already be a significant drawback. In order to avoid such consequences, you can use the option of fixing the blinds on brackets that are attached to the frame in various ways that do not require holes to be created.

Installation of blinds with drilling plastic or using a screwdriver

In the first option with the use of screws, it is necessary to place and mark the position of the top bar of the blinds as accurately as possible, which will be directly attached to the window. The most common and simplest option is the design, which is located along the upper edge of the double-glazed window and only enters the window frame with its groove wings. Strict binding to the upper part of the sash allows you to independently install blinds even without special accuracy and measurements.

If you have a plastic window, then you can not think about drilling at all. Most manufacturers have models of blinds, for reliable fastening of which there will be enough screws screwed directly into the profile.

example of horizontal blinds

Attach the carrier to the double-glazed window under the very top of the sash frame. Due to the different depth between the plane of the double-glazed window and the frame, the fixing plates may not fit snugly against the window profile. To eliminate this gap and securely attach the platinum to the window, special U-shaped linings are used. They are placed from one to several pieces until the gap is completely closed. Mark the position of the carrier along the lower edges of the mounting plates, so that later you can navigate to them and hang the blinds on the window evenly.

Blinds can be fastened to plastic windows with screws directly into the profile using a screwdriver. They will easily go into the plastic, and will hold securely. You can pre-mark the position of the screws and make holes in these places with a drill of about 1.5 mm. This, firstly, will eliminate the possibility that the carrier will slightly shift when the screw is tightened and, secondly, it will eliminate the risk of cracking in the profile. The latter case is practically unrealistic for new windows, but it is possible if the windows have stood for several years or are made not of plastic, but of wood.

As soon as the last fastening screw is tightened, you can begin to fix the fishing line, which will hold the blinds in the plane of the sash when opened. To do this, two holes are made at the edges in the lower glazing bead of the sash. They must be located strictly under the corresponding outlets of the fishing line on the carrier system of the blinds. A 2.5 mm drill is used for this. The fishing line, threaded into the blinds system and lowered by the ends to the lower bead, is threaded into special plugs that are attached, and tied with knots. It remains only to thread the plugs into the holes and pull the entire line from above. The tension of the fishing line should not be strong, but it should not sag either.

All that is left is to put the trims on the blind carrier, check their operation and glue them in suitable places for the control chain and the flexible arm.

Blind installation without drilling

The use of brackets can help in fixing blinds to windows without drilling. They are attached to the frame in various ways, and the carrier of the blinds themselves is snapped or screwed onto them. This system is good because later the blinds can be easily detached for major cleaning, or the blinds can be completely removed from the window and used without them, if necessary. At the same time, there will be no extra holes left in sight, and the tightness of the window profile will not be violated.

Brackets can be fixed, as in the first case, with screws or in one of the following ways:

  1. hook for the upper part of the sash profile (installed only on opening sashes);
  2. using double sided tape.

Using the first option allows you to remove everything even the brackets from the window in one fell swoop and does not require any additional actions with screwdrivers and holes at all. The second option is similar in installation to the described option when using screws, only gluing is performed, not screwing.

Instead of holes for the holding line, special fasteners can be used, which are also glued to the bottom of the frame with double-sided tape.

Installation of ready-made blinds on the windows does not require any special skills. Moreover, for this, in general, simple work, professional installers sometimes have to pay quite a lot of money.

Therefore, it would be most advisable to mount the blinds to the ceiling with your own hands. To do this, it will be possible to get by with improvised tools that are in the arsenal of any home master.

Aesthetics and practicality

More recently, blinds were perceived only as a kind of foreign exoticism. But rather quickly, our fellow citizens, accustomed to traditional curtains and curtains, were able to appreciate the practicality of use and the aesthetic beauty of these structures.

Since then, the "triumphal procession" of these light-shielding devices, invented back in the 18th century in the United States, began in the apartments and offices of our country. Today they are no longer perceived by us as something unusual - more and more owners of residential and office premises prefer these easy-to-use lattice structures.

The only negative that can be pointed out is the higher price of blinds compared to classic fabric curtains. However, the total cost of the structure can be reduced if you install it on the windows on your own.

Design features of blinds

Vertical blinds

Today in our market there are several types of blinds, differing from each other in the features of their design. Depending on their variety, the methods of attaching blinds also differ:

  1. Horizontal blinds. Reiki (or the so-called "lamellas") in this design are located one above the other. The access of light to the room is regulated here by turning the lamellas around their axis, as a result of which they either press tightly against each other or form a gap. It is necessary to install such structures, as a rule, directly on the window frames.
  2. Vertical blinds. They differ from the first option in the arrangement of lamellas hanging from top to bottom. Adjustment of light access in this case can be carried out both by turning the slats, and by moving them to the side, as with conventional fabric curtains. In this case, fasteners for blinds are located directly above the window - on the wall above the window opening or on the ceiling.
  3. "Roman curtain". It is one of the varieties of horizontal devices. Only the access of light here is regulated not by turning the rails, but by lifting the entire structure: the curtain goes up, rolling up into a roll. Fasteners for blinds of this type are also located either on the wall, above the window, or on the ceiling.

The material from which the devices can be made is very different - aluminum, wood, fabric. But this in no way affects the features of the installation of fasteners for blinds. As a result, we have two main types of fastening:

  • directly on the window frame (for horizontal type devices);
  • on the wall or ceiling (mounts for vertical blinds).

If during the work some damage is caused to the blinds, then it will not be possible to exchange them for others. Damage caused by self-assembly is not covered by the warranty.

Installing blinds on a wall or ceiling

Blinds mounting scheme

The main device with which vertical blinds are attached is the cornice. Swivel and sliding mechanisms are installed in it, and lamellas hanging down are attached to it.

Preparatory work

To attach the eaves of a vertical device to a wall or ceiling, you will need the following tools:

  • impact drill or hammer drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • building level;
  • pencil.

Before proceeding with the installation of the eaves, you should make all the necessary measurements. In terms of height, the cornice should be installed in such a way that the lamellas hang down at least 5-10 cm below the window or window sill.

At the desired height, we mark a point on the wall and, using a level with a pencil, draw a strip along which the cornice will be attached. On this line, mark a point exactly coinciding with the middle of the window.

Cornice installation

Next, we will need to determine the points for installing fasteners - dowel-nails. To do this, we apply a cornice from a set of blinds to the line in such a way that its center corresponds to the mark of the center of the window.

If the part already has holes for fasteners, then we put points in these places on the wall or ceiling, depending on where you intend to attach the cornice. If there are no ready-made technical holes, then they will have to be done by yourself with a drill, stepping back a few centimeters from the edge of the eaves.

Then, using a puncher or impact drill, we drill a wall (ceiling) and hammer a plastic dowel into the hole.

We again apply the cornice in place so that the mounting holes in the cornice coincide with the dowels installed in the wall or ceiling, and with the help of self-tapping screws we fix it in the desired position.

In the case of a significant width of the cornice or the overall massiveness of the structure, it is recommended to additionally fix the cornice in the center in one or two places.

Installing blinds on window frames

This installation method is mainly used for horizontal devices. Unlike attaching a cornice to a wall or ceiling, this method is difficult for many home craftsmen.

Many do not quite understand how to attach the structure to the frame of plastic windows. Meanwhile, all the same self-tapping screws or screws are used for this.

In this case, when drilling an aluminum or PVC frame with a self-tapping screw, the tightness of the window does not suffer at all.

To do this, as in the first case, we make markings in such a way that the blinds evenly protrude beyond the edges of the glazing both on the right and on the left. In this case, we take into account that all preliminary measurements were made even before the purchase of the blinds, and they exactly match the dimensions of your window. We install the blind holders directly on the window frame, using metal screws (for aluminum frames) or ordinary screws (for PVC frames) for fastening. For more information on installing blinds, see this video:

We snap onto the holders or fasten the bearing cornice - depending on the design features of the device. On the cornice we sequentially install rotary mechanisms with control cords. It is also possible to install blinds of this kind in the inter-frame space if you have double wooden frames installed in your house.

The light protection device is mounted on the inner frame from the side facing the outer frame. To control the blinds, in this case, a hole is drilled in the upper part of the frame, through which the cords of the rotary system are threaded. For information on how to install blinds without screws, see this video:

As you can see, the installation of any type of blinds on the windows can be easily done by hand. This will allow you to significantly save on calling a team of professional installers. To carry out the work, it is enough to have only a standard set of home construction tools and the necessary fasteners.

Twice a year in spring and autumn, washing and dusting curtains pleases the few, and many have already abandoned them, preferring blinds: it is convenient to open or close a window at any time of the year from annoying sunlight or the curious glances of random passers-by. Are there any differences in them, and what types of blinds exist?

Types of blinds

A huge variety of species and types is amazing, but despite this they are divided:

  • For vertical: are made of a wide variety of materials with lamellas of different widths, which are attached to the top and bottom of the structure with a strong thread. Easy to use, allow you to adjust the flow of light of different intensities, move completely or leave half open. Cornices can also be very different, but the most durable ones are made of aluminum. Installation is possible both in city apartments and in office premises;
  • Vertical fixing solution- it was from this type that the tradition of installing blinds instead of dusty curtains, or as an additional device for adjusting the luminous flux in home or industrial premises, was born. Convenient for those who use the window sill as a mini-greenhouse: moisture does not get on the fasteners and the lamellas themselves;
  • Pleated- a new word in interior design: an accordion is visible on the window from the main material, a very original and unusual look, impregnated with anti-dust agents that do not allow it to settle. Even washing is possible, the accordion will not change its configuration, and many have already liked this type of window accessory;
  • roll view- with multifunctional functions and anti-dust properties, suitable for any type of interior. Especially good for an oriental solution: the bamboo design is original and looks unusual on the windows. Installation is convenient, they can be installed even on the ceiling;
  • Interframe view- they are usually made according to the horizontal type, but they are designed for windows with wooden frames: there is more space between them, and in order not to clutter up the window, they are installed in a new way. Management is displayed outside, and this is very convenient for users;
  • For owners with arched windows similar blinds are produced in various colors of various materials;
  • Automatic structures- with the arrangement of an electric motor. They are justified in those rooms where manual adjustment causes difficulties due to the height of the opening, and the control panel itself must be set in the desired position of the lamella of the structure;
  • The so-called "Roman blinds". They have recently become widespread, since they are made exclusively from durable material that can not fade from sunlight for a long time;
  • Photo solution- they are usually made to order according to the customer's layout: your favorite photo will be the basis for applying the selected pattern;
  • For lofts, i.e. corner structures.

According to the material of manufacture, they can be very diverse, and the listing may take several pages of text.

How to choose blinds

Vertical structures are considered the most convenient and reliable: the slats simply turn in one direction or another, or slide onto one side of the window, letting in light or shading the room. The choice of designs is simply huge: different materials and a lot of colors.

In vertical blinds, the slats do not rotate, but simply rise to the top of the window frame, sometimes this helps to protect against moisture from watering home flowers.

The roll type is rarely used at home, since they do not have a lifting mechanism and they can only close the entire window or a certain opening. They are good for bedrooms, that is, where it is necessary to completely get rid of light.

Mounting methods

Installation can be carried out inside, on top of the window frame, to the load-bearing wall or along the upper slope, as well as the ceiling. The choice should correspond to the type of blinds themselves.

All types necessarily have a cornice - the basis for which they can be fixed, this is the main element of the fastener. And it is the installation of this bearing part that is an important point of installation.

First you need to determine the location of the brackets on which the cornice will be installed.

Horizontal structures are usually mounted in a window frame if they have a small specific weight and a small length designed for only one window.

If they are heavy and will be installed immediately on the entire opening, then the fasteners are carried out along the slope of the window, wall or ceiling.

If a double-glazed window is installed, then it is necessary to carry out work with great care: first mark the location, verify the dimensions, and only then you can start drilling holes for the brackets. If you make a mistake and drill in the wrong place, then it will be very difficult to close the holes, and excessive cold air will flow through them. Even sealing with construction foam will not help: traces will still remain.

If it is intended to be mounted on the upper wall, then you must first find out the material from which it is made. It must be load-bearing, and not made of wood-shaving material, in the latter case, the cornice may fall from its own weight.

The final appearance of the structure will also be important: it must be in harmony with the rest of the situation, and not stand out against the general background.

Marking is best done by level: the slightest discrepancy in height or width can lead to failure of the regulatory mechanism.

The main methods include:

  1. Directly into the opening of the window frame;
  2. on the frame;
  3. On a load-bearing wall;
  4. To the ceiling.

Required Tools

To carry out the necessary work, the zealous owner always has the necessary tools, and you don’t need to buy something special at all:

  • Soft meter for measuring distances and heights;
  • Power drill and thin drill about 2 mm;
  • Screwdriver with a straight or Phillips tip;
  • Pencil with graphite center:
  • Level;
  • In other cases, you may need polyurethane foam to level the wall or ceiling.

How to install blinds - step by step instructions

Consider a few specific installation methods:

Installation on a window frame or a specific sash

Please note that the package already includes everything you need to work. You need to unpack everything and prepare a convenient place for their placement:

  • Remove the packaging material from the eaves;
  • It is allowed to strengthen the cornice in different ways: with screws, on pre-installed special brackets of their kit, or do it in an old-fashioned way by drilling the required hole diameter:
  • If fasteners on screws directly into the window frame or sash are chosen, then this method will be the most reliable and durable, and there will be no leakage. Such fasteners are not suitable for vertical blinds: the holes made will be noticeable and the view will be unattractive.
  • Fasteners on brackets are suitable for any type and type of structures, and there is no need to drill holes.

Horizontal

Usually fasteners are carried out along the upper part of the window opening, and only a few edges of the lamellas go beyond the sash. This is due to the convenience of manual control. In the delivery set, take a set of screws, and fix the structure at the marked points:

  • For alignment, you can use plastic gaskets that are installed on the profile, and a cornice is already attached to them;
  • You can adjust the tension of the fishing line: twist it in one direction or another so that the lamellas go freely, but at the same time do not sag.

Vertical:

  • Determine the exact location. If the fasteners are supposed to be on the wall or ceiling, then the lamellas themselves should go beyond the opening parameters by about 10 cm;
  • In the delivery set there are special latches, we fix them on the eaves;
  • We install all the lamellas to the holder bar and runners;
  • We fasten the control element (usually in the form of a chain) to the plumb lines;
  • Distribute evenly over the opening and check the performance.

Rolled

  • Align to the size of the window, cut off the excess, remove the canvas from the roller. We mark the sizes;
  • We adjust the lower part to the size of the window opening. Now you should install a part with a plug and a small protrusion on the shaft;
  • Stir the width of the curtains, cut off the excess;
  • We fasten the canvas on the upper roller so that about 5 cm remains - we wrap it in the upper roller;
  • You can proceed with the installation of the structure according to the above methods.

Installation cost

If you do the installation yourself, you will only have to pay for a set of curtains, and the craftsmen can ask for work from 1 to 3 thousand rubles.

Plastic and aluminum blinds protect the room well from the effects of bright sunlight, which is very important in rooms that are on the sunny side: in offices and living rooms, where sun glare can interfere with watching TV or working on a computer. It is also convenient that the installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows with your own hands is simple and does not require special skills.

Installation Features

The standard kit usually includes brackets, all consumables (bolts and dowels or adhesive tape), as well as instructions on how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows. There is nothing complicated in it: first, brackets are mounted on the window, sash or opening, and then a cornice is inserted into them.

There is no need to worry about how to properly install the lamellar system on the cornice: the manufacturer has already done this for you. Therefore, the entire installation process is reduced only to mounting the side brackets and takes a minimum of time.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows can be carried out with drilling, without drilling (on double-sided adhesive tape) and on cap brackets. The choice of method largely depends on where exactly it is planned to fix them.

Where to fix blinds

Before hanging the blinds, please note: manufacturers give a guarantee for blocks with a width of 22 cm to 220 cm and a height of up to 250 cm. A smaller width does not make sense, and for a larger one it is recommended to use two independent blocks. Blinds for plastic windows of large sizes are also found on sale, but they are fixed without a guarantee for the performance of the structure.

How to make dimensions

Before you install the blinds correctly, you need to take measurements. All subsequent installation and performance of the block system will directly depend on how accurately they are carried out. Dimensioning instructions for each installation site are different:

  • Inside window openings (suitable for cases where the window is located in the recess of the wall). It is important here that the lamellas do not touch the slopes when lifting and lowering. Based on this, we select the width of the block in such a way that it is 4-5 cm (2-2.5 cm from each side) narrower than the window opening. The height of the entire curtain must be respectively set 2-2.5 cm shorter than the length of the opening. So that each sash can open freely when the slats are raised, a distance must be left between the upper edge of the window and the blinds.
  • Outside window openings (also suitable for cases where the window unit is placed in a wall recess). This arrangement makes it possible to cover the entire opening area with one wide curtain and, if necessary, more effectively darken the room. To do this, it is necessary that the width of the lamellas be 5-5.5 cm on each side (only 10-11 cm) wider than the window opening, and the height of the entire curtain should fall 10 cm below the window sill.
  • On window sashes (curtains open together with the sashes, suitable for the mini model). This method saves space as much as possible and leaves the window sill completely free. Blinds to plastic windows in this case must be fixed so that they do not interfere with the rotation of the handles on the sashes and do not touch the window sill, but completely cover the glass. To do this, their width should be 1.5 cm from each side edge (only 3 cm) wider than the glass part of the window, and the height should be 1.5 cm more than its length.
  • Outside the window opening (carried out when the window is located on the same plane with the wall). Since the handles on the sashes protrude into the interior of the room, in this case you will need a special bracket that will make it possible to install the fixed blinds at a small distance from the wall. In order for them to completely shade the room when closed, their width should be 20 cm wider than the window opening (10 cm on each side), and the length should be equal to or 10 cm more than the height of the window.

How to make markup

In order to prevent distortions during installation, before installing horizontal blinds on the wall above the plastic window with drilling, it is necessary to make markings. Do not forget to leave enough space above the window, otherwise, when assembled, the lamellas will interfere with the opening of the sashes.

We will need:

  1. Blind block.
  2. Bolts and dowels to match the bracket.
  3. Roulette.
  4. Level.
  5. Construction pencil.
  6. Drill.
  7. A hammer.
  8. Screwdriver.

Operating procedure:

  1. Use a level and ruler to mark each side.
  2. Lay the bottom of the mount on the reference line, then mark the drilling points with a pencil.
  3. Highlight the cross markings to better indicate the drilling points.
  4. Drill the places where the dowels are inserted, holding the tool perpendicular.
  5. Insert the dowels by hand and hammer them in with a hammer.

How to hang

The hardest work is behind you. It remains only to hang the horizontal blinds in place.

Procedure:

  1. We install universal brackets.
  2. By turning the latch counterclockwise, we fix the upper cornice on the bracket at a distance of 20 cm from the edge.
  3. Turn the latch clockwise until it stops.
  4. We insert the hook of the rotary mechanism located on the upper cornice into the control handle (relevant for models with a cord and a handle).

We check the performance of the system: raise and lower the slats, rotate them at different angles, changing the lighting, check if they interfere with the opening of the wings. If all these manipulations were successful for you without any extra effort, the blinds are installed correctly.
As opposed to blackout curtains, the lightweight lamella construction in colored plastic or multi-coloured aluminum ensures good air circulation while guaranteeing even illumination. With its help, you can easily protect your home from direct sunlight, and if the color and texture of the lamellas are correctly chosen for the design of the apartment, they will favorably emphasize its merits.

How to do the installation of horizontal blinds with your own hands on the video:

[Rated: 5 Average rating: 3]

After choosing a model, color and size, installation of vertical blinds, with proper skill, takes no more than 1 hour. All operations described in the instructions attached to the product are able to independently perform 1 person without special professional training and skills. When implementing this measure, it is important to take into account the features of the product and correctly assemble all structural details.

Training

Before installing blinds, you need to prepare a minimum of tools:

  • construction pencil;
  • level (the longer the better);
  • roulette;
  • perforator;
  • screwdriver (screwdriver).

Dowels Ø 6.8 mm are required if they are not included with the vertical blind brackets.

In order to imagine step by step how to hang, in what order the parts and tools are required, it is necessary to open the packaging of the blinds, lay out all the parts clearly, check the completeness with the passport, determine the need for additional materials (according to the chosen method of fastening).

Accommodation options

The advantage of vertical blinds is that they can be hung on openings of various shapes: oblique, arched, round, curved. The eaves along which the lamellas move may not be straight. However, the basic installation principles are the same:

If the curtain has a rectangular shape, before drilling holes, carefully check the coincidence of the marked points of the horizontal axis with a level.

Roller shutter suspension with electrical drive is mounted asymmetrically. The description shows the mounting dimensions on the motor side (right or left).

Installation subtleties

The practical process of how to assemble vertical blinds step by step consists of the following operations:

Thus, the assembled mechanism is checked for smooth running, uniform operation of all elements of the actuator. See this video for installation details of vertical blinds:
