Jiayu g3 description. JiaYu G3C - Specifications. What features do you use occasionally?

08.01.2014

How long have you had this device?

It's been 10 days since I received it.

Do you use it until now? If not, why did you break up with him?

Not using. I gave it to my wife for temporary use. Let him get used to good things.

How did you get this device? By what criteria was it chosen? Where and how much was bought?

I ordered from Aliexpress. Long looked closely, read thematic forums. Selection criteria - reliability, long-lasting battery, camera with flash, Gorilla glass on the screen, viewing angles, behavior in sunlight, two SIM cards, Android 4.2, quad-core processor, at least 1 GB of RAM, screen size no more than 5 inches and resolution no more less HD. I bought it not for myself, but for my son - a second-year technical school student, and on his scholarship. But, as it always happens, although he participated in the choice, it was I who slipped him the options. So we chose "together" what I wanted for myself. I ordered it in the 20th of November, and already on the 21st of December I was holding it in my hands. The seller sent it by Singapore Post. The journey from China to Kazakhstan took about 3 weeks (including the preparation and verification of the phone by the seller), and the parcel went through Kazakhstan for a week.

The price of the phone at the time of purchase was 169.99 US MNT. Now she has grown a little. Included were a gift silicone case and a stylus. For some time now, the second battery has not been included in the package of phones sent by mail due to restrictions of postal services.

Unboxing video:

First turn on:

What do you like? Strengths, virtues.

The bar-like body of this phone does not look so monotonous. True, some still see it as similar to other brands, such as the iPhone for example. I don’t know, I don’t have such associations. But the Samsung shovels managed to pall. Moreover, they have become the favorite phones of the female part (its young part) of the population. Almost every second girl under 30 walks with a phone over 5 inches.

So, I repeat, the size of 4.5 inches at the present time is the lowest limit of the screen size of a phone that claims to be an HD screen. It is possible, of course, to fit the same number of pixels on a smaller size, however, there will be no sense. And the shape of the case, angular at first glance, evokes a feeling of reliability.

I want to explain right now. Why don't I call the phone by name? I certainly know how his name is pronounced. Jiayu G3S. I specifically launched Google Translator to listen to how it sounds in Chinese. It turned out something like Dzya-U-I. I can’t call such a good phone like that, I can’t turn my tongue. To call him, as they say about him on the forums, "zhuyka" or in general "Egg" - too, because I like him. In the future, I will simply call it a smartphone or phone. That's what I call home.

For those who did not watch the unpacking video, I will tell you what exactly came in the box. By the way, I apologize for the video, I shot it on a camera that does not have the function of shooting video in HD quality, and I still can’t buy a tripod for it.

So, in the box were:

  • the phone itself in a green silicone case and with a pasted shipping film;
  • a 1 A charger with a Chinese (well, at least not ours) plug;
  • charger adapter for our sockets;
  • USB-microUSB cable for connecting to a computer and for a charger;
  • film on the screen;
  • the stylus put by the seller (as well as the case) as a gift.

    Equipment:

    Phone types:

    To be honest, the green cover of a poisonous acid color caused a slight shock. The phone I ordered is black. It goes without saying to me that the cover should be black. But that's what I thought. Phone manufacturers don't seem to take into account wishes and put cases in boxes on a random basis. Well at least they didn't put pink. I expressed my "phi" to the seller, but by that time the green-black color combination had already become familiar and even native. I'm not offended by the seller's cover. By the way, a case for this phone is not a luxury, but a necessity. According to reviews, the black paint on the sides of the phone next to the screen begins to peel off over time, and the case protects against this. And, of course, some kind of protection in the event of a fall. Another plus of the cover is that the phone in the hands is held like a glove, it does not strive to slip out.

    Frame

    Heavy, metal. Of course, it's not all metal. I don't mean the screen - it's supposed to be glass. But the back cover of the battery compartment looks flimsy. This feeling appears when you take it off, it is thin, the latches come unfastened with a crunch, causing concern for their integrity. But in the assembled state, the phone feels like a monolithic (and it does not creak or play) black bar, pleasant to the touch. The surfaces are smooth, but do not slip out of the hands. Gets dirty with your fingers quickly, and also quickly wipes off. The screen does not have an oleophobic coating, fingers also remain. I put a film on the screen. I didn’t stick my native one - I went to the service, paid for their matte film, and they stuck it to me. Enough for a while, with a matte film, fingerprints on the screen are less noticeable.

    The case is made of silicone, sat on the body perfectly. It's much more comfortable to hold. A sort of replacement for softtouch. I can say one more thing about the cover. It has a rough surface and gets dirty quickly in the field. And since the surface is not smooth, it takes effort to wash.

    Screen

    The screen size is just right for one-handed operation. In most cases, a second hand is not needed. Well, except to press the screen lock button, it is not very conveniently located on top. But unlocking also works from the volume keys. The volume down key can be used as a shutter button in the camera app. I have not yet figured out how autofocus works.

    More about the screen. Viewing angles are excellent in my opinion. Specially took pictures from different angles. There are no comments.

    cameras

    The main camera of the phone. It is eight megapixel. In order to take pictures of bus timetables, a beautiful view, a child who is not averse to posing - all this is possible with good lighting. There is autofocus, and it even does its job. But not fast, in low light conditions, even at home, it slows down. However, an ordinary phone camera, not Karl Zeiss of course.

    In the camera settings, you can set "full screen". With this function, the phone takes pictures with an aspect ratio of 16:10 (maybe 16:9, I had no time to check). But at the same time, the maximum resolution is reduced to 6 megapixels. That is, in fact, 2 extra bands at the top and bottom of the photo are cropped. I do not presume to judge, but such a decision seemed strange to me. The functions include panoramic shooting (there is okay, the quality is disgusting, they did it for show), shooting a 3D image (this is when you shoot an object from different angles and you can also view it, but only on your phone), quality settings, etc. Didn't understand, didn't test them all.

    The front camera, although it is claimed to be 2 megapixels, is somehow not sure about that. She has a very poor quality. In order to capture a self-portrait for an avatar on a forum or in a Google account, it will do.

    Video filming. Both cameras support HD shooting. Frontal supports in quotation marks.

    See examples below.

    Video taken with the front camera:

    Video from the main camera:

    I hope you are not offended that I did not shoot a longer video? In my opinion, everything is so clear. Somehow I was hoping for the best. Maybe with good lighting everything will be different?

    Performance

    Well, I went to the place where this phone is on horseback.

    The MTK6589T processor with 4 cores at 1.5 GHz, paired with 1 GB of RAM gives sufficient performance for almost all tasks that may arise. Recently, people have complained about the brakes even in the Android interface. Now the time has finally come when we can forget about it. I had no reason to complain.

    Below are screenshots of benchmarks.

    Quadrant:

    AnTuTu 3DRating:

    Operating system

    The operating system Android 4.2.1 is installed, not naked. Pre-installed a number of unnecessary applications for non-Chinese.

    Your Lancer. It takes getting used to. But after a couple of days, the desire to put, for example, Apex - was gone.

    Ruth was out of the box. Therefore, I did not have to look for ways to rut. Titanium restored everything from another android device, demolished the Chinese, and that's it, the settings are over.

    About the built-in memory: out of 4 GB, part is occupied by the system. The remaining 2.8 GB is dedicated to installing applications. There is no space left for the built-in flash card at all. Therefore, without an additional flash card, it is impossible even to take a photo. Some may find the decision controversial. For such, there are always programs for repartitioning the phone's memory or simply downloading another firmware. Fortunately, there are a lot of them in the open spaces w3bsit3-dns.com and china-iphone. For example, the same LewaOS. I did not put it only because the phone was not intended for me personally. And the advantages of having all the available built-in memory dedicated to applications are obvious. No need to rack your brains where to look for the downloaded file, which of the sdcard, external or internal for example. Well, of course, everyone has their own preferences. And buying memory cards is not a problem now.

    Another plus that I almost forgot about is status LED. When charging, it lights red up to 90% of the charge. Then green, which can be confusing (the charge has not yet ended). When discharged up to 15%, it also signals in red the need to find an outlet. In fact, you don’t have to worry much, for a couple of hours or even more, this charge will be enough (if you don’t continue to play or download something big). It also signals green missed calls, SMS and other messages. Conveniently.

    Pro battery capacity I can say a little - Antutu tester knocked out 600 with a little points. These are parrots. During use (several days) charged every other day. For two days of not very active use was enough.

    Screenshots of battery consumption:

    Charger Pictures:

    I didn't use my original charger. I have several from other phones. The native cord is a bit short, so I use the charger with the longer one. I did not test for speed charging. During the night it charges and it's fine.

    Multitouch

    I describe simply because for the first time I encountered a multi-touch for 7 touches. As they say, "neither two nor one and a half". 5 touches, it seems to me, would be enough for the eyes. When I tested it, I could hardly fit these same 7 fingers on a seemingly rather large screen.

    Multi-touch test:

    Navigation

    Yes, I tested. Yes, I got results. Cold start in 111 seconds on the windowsill in the apartment (3rd floor, facing southwest into the courtyard of the same 6-storey buildings). Previously, using the header from the forum on china-iphone, I set it up. I did this test for the sake of testing. Navigation itself is needed like a mare's fifth leg.

    By the way, there are a lot of reviews about the incorrect operation of GPS in this phone, that sometimes it is necessary to solder something there. Perhaps this is so, but I passed by.

    behavior in the sun

    I bring photos of the phone in the sun. The photos, I must say right away, were taken at home, for the only reason: the frost hit at 20 degrees, and I didn’t smile at all to go out with a phone and a camera in my hands. Photos give a general idea of the screen brightness margin. You can see (yes, what can you see - see) and read the message written on the screen even in bright light, well, maybe you will have to cover your hand a little from glare. By the way, I didn’t check the auto-adjustment of brightness, and I don’t dare to say how it behaves.

    Photos of the phone screen in the sun at maximum brightness, at medium and at minimum:

    Telephone component

    Calls, dials, the interlocutor is heard, I can be heard. Everything is standard. When installing a new SIM card, it asks which one to use for voice calls, which one for video (and for 3G, respectively). You can set it to always ask which SIM card to call from, which message to send from. In the phone book, you can link a number to a SIM card. I met something else only with LewaOS. There, the dialer interface allows you to select a SIM card for calls by moving the slider under the dialer.

    About communication standards

    Both SIMs support 3G WCDMA2100 and no other. That is, if your favorite provider works in a different standard, then you will not see 3G as your ears. I encountered this, "mourned" and put the unsupported SIM card on the shelf for a while while I had the phone. With two other providers that are in our area, the phone works without comment. I had to manually enter the connection parameters, I didn’t pick it up myself. And the speed was 64 kbps. After 2 days of trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, I called support - they rebooted something there, I turned the phone off and on, and oops - the speed increased to 7 Mbps for reception. And I sinned on the body.

    HD video playback

    Especially for such cases, I have 2 test videos in FullHD quality (trailers of some films) on a flash drive. The stock player played both of them, but one of them was silent. The reason is that it is necessary to disable hardware decoding, but it does not have this in the settings. I used the standard MX player for such cases. Both are played, and with sound. A very controversial issue about the need to play such a video on a small screen. Movies never weigh that little. There are also 7 GB and more. Maybe it's better to use a TV? Well, or a computer with a good screen?

    Games

    For the test, I installed Real Racing 3. My son played. What can be said? Brakes appear, but only with a large number of cars. There is an image in the rear-view mirrors. The son did not experience discomfort during the game. He will pass the session, get the phone back (if he passes it well) and test it again.

    What's not to like? Weaknesses, shortcomings.

    It has a weak front camera.

    What do you miss in it?

    WCDMA900 for tele2.

    What features do you use often?

    Skype. Viber installed. Reader. Internet. gmail. Camera.

    What features do you use occasionally?

    Mail.ru agent.

    What features do you not use at all?

    I didn't even check bluetooth. Now I don’t have a headset (I gave it away as unnecessary in good hands until it died of old age), and I was too lazy to connect to phones.

    Has the device been repaired?

    No, and I hope not.

    What troubles happened with the device? What glitches were noticed?

    There are no such.

    Try to compare this device with other models that you have used.

    An extremely good Chinese smartphone. Maybe, because of the economy, I had to deal with devices that require some additional steps for setting up, finishing, flashing, etc. But this device does not need it. All operations to fit the smartphone for themselves took 2-3 hours, including restoring applications from backup and photographing the process of unpacking and first switching on.

    What else can you say?

    This is a work phone. Not for entertainment, show-off, toys. Although it is also suitable for all these purposes, the processor and memory allow you to do almost everything on it. But again, this is a solid phone for work. I lost interest in it a little when I realized that there was no need to set it up especially, to mess around with it. The quality of Chinese smarts (and not only smarts) is growing and very noticeable. Let's wait for the opportunity to test something 8-core.

    9 out of 10. Subtracted one point for not having WCDMA900. I recommend to everyone to buy.

    Budget communicator from the Middle Kingdom, which could become a hit

    The current hero of the review has long attracted the attention of the public with its characteristics and price. He became one of the first, if not the first, communicators that made the dream of many buyers come true: to purchase a smartphone with a dual-core processor, a large display with a resolution of 720 × 1280 pixels and support for two SIM cards - for a symbolic money for a device with such characteristics.

    There was a “squiggle” in the chain of events, and Jiayu G3, namely, it is about him, ended up in the editorial office after his alter ego in some way - iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X, a communicator of a domestic company, but with a distinct Chinese ancestry, having a twin brother in the form of UMI X1. But that's okay: the more interesting it will be to compare both devices, because the price tag on them differs by almost two times.

    Before proceeding to describe the impressions of the novelty, it is necessary to make a reservation that Jiayu G3 can currently only be purchased in China, it is not officially delivered to Russia.

    Delivery set and specifications

    The Jiayu G3 has perhaps one of the most unusual packaging, at least among those that we have seen: a thin white cardboard cover is put on a transparent plastic box, most reminiscent of a food container, which, in turn, contains a smartphone and accessories. It is impossible not to note the strength of this design, which is undoubtedly important when sending a purchase by mail. However, in order to open this plastic "ark", you need to work hard and suffer a little, especially if you do it for the first time.

    There is no particularly useful information on the packaging of the communicator, for a compatriot only the name of the device, the name of the manufacturer and the address of its website will be understandable. The rest of the few information is presented exclusively in hieroglyphs.

    The set of Jiayu G3 accessories is standard: rechargeable battery, charger, Micro-USB cable, wired stereo headset and documentation. As a nice bonus, there is a protective film for the communicator's screen. All available accompanying documentation contains Chinese text only.

    The characteristics of the Jiayu G3 communicator are as follows:

    • MediaTek MTK6577 processor (two ARM Cortex-A9 cores, 1 GHz) with PowerVR SGX 531 video core;
    • Operating system Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich);

    The characteristics of Jiayu G3 and iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X are the same in almost all respects. Of course, the two communicators differ in size and weight, but this is largely due to the difference in size and battery capacity of these two devices. In general, the parameters of the Jiayu G3 hardware filling seem very tempting, given the price of the communicator. The main positive point is a capacious battery, negative and mysterious are somewhat outdated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules.

    We must immediately make a reservation that the described capabilities of the Jiayu G3 are typical for the firmware with which the device went on sale, and screen shots were taken with it. It, in particular, is based on the version of Android 4.0.4. Meanwhile, at the time of the announcement of the article, a new firmware based on Android 4.1.2 was already available, and at one point, which we will discuss later, the functionality of the device may change significantly compared to the out-of-the-box version.

    Design and appearance

    In the era of the struggle for the title of "the thinnest smartphone" Jiayu G3 looks very extraordinary - a kind of heavy and thick black plastic "brick". Inadvertently, there is a feeling that it can be used not only for its intended purpose, but also, for example, for driving nails or as a weapon of self-defense.

    Despite the classic body shape and small weight for its dimensions, Jiayu G3 is definitely a male smartphone. It is in the male hand that this “bar” looks the most organic and impressive. It is hard to imagine that the hero of the review will be of interest to the fair sex and, moreover, will fit in a woman's hand.

    Thick side edges allow you to confidently hold the communicator with one hand, despite the generally slippery plastic case. But, unfortunately, the dimensions of the smartphone also limit the possibility of placing it in various pockets. A comfortable grip, moreover, does not mean the convenience of controlling the communicator with the fingers of one hand: in order to reach all the corners of the elongated display, the smartphone body must be intercepted in the middle, sacrificing the reliability of the grip.

    Outwardly, the hero of the review resembles several families of devices at once: there is something from Sony smartphones in which the lower part of the case is highlighted, there is something elusive from the iPhone 4 (probably the design of the upper part of the front panel and a cutout for a telephone speaker), but most of all in it from the appearance of the good old communicators with Windows Mobile now deceased in Bose - for example, E-ten models, which differed most of all in case thickness, Chinese plastic and, in general, “plain” design. The main impression from the design of the communicator is exactly what a smartphone with Windows Mobile would have looked like in 2006, if someone in the Celestial Empire at that time decided to release a communicator without hardware keys, with only a touch screen on the front panel.

    The material of the Jiayu G3 case was plastic and metal, the first of two types: matte black for most of the case, glossy black for the front panel and ends. The metal is presented exclusively in the form of two inserts on both sides of the protective glass of the display. They do not look very organic, it seems that the developers tried to make the communicator more "representative" with their help, but achieved only the opposite effect. All panels - both plastic and metal - perfectly collect fingerprints.

    In general, the build quality and design of the communicator are not satisfactory. There are no creaks and backlashes between the parts, nothing rings or dangles. The battery cover is held on by several latches and detaches with some effort and diligence. A few keys have a relief shape and a distinct stroke.

    On the front panel of the Jiayu G3, in addition to the display, there are three touch keys (all backlit), a phone speaker, an additional camera lens, two sensors and an LED status indicator of the communicator. For the presence of the latest smartphone developers should be praised separately. The entire front panel, with the exception of metal inserts, is covered with protective glass, similar in properties to the well-known Gorilla Glass.

    The name of the manufacturer and its logo are applied only to the battery cover, which is the back panel of the smartphone. Holes are provided for the main speaker, camera lens and LED flash. After detaching the cover, you can see a huge battery, slots for SIM-cards and memory cards (you cannot replace them without pulling out the battery).

    You can remove the rear plastic panel only by picking it up with your fingernail in the lower right corner of the communicator housing - that is where the special recess is located. On the right side of the smartphone is a dual key for controlling the volume of the sound system of the device. The left side of the Jiayu G3 is empty.

    At the bottom of the hero of the review are a microphone and a Micro-USB-compatible connector. On top is the power button and 3.5mm headphone jack.

    The location of all controls in the Jiayu G3 is standard, but, however, there are several questions about the layout and design of the communicator. First, the large amount of free front panel area, which is not occupied by anything, is surprising - the smartphone could simply be made smaller. Secondly, the lower part of the bezel seems completely redundant, as does the plastic rim around the display. Thirdly, instead of touch keys, mechanical keys would be painlessly placed, but the developers followed the fashion lead. Of course, all this can be considered nit-picking; The communicator turned out the way it is. Moreover, the dimensions of the case may have been dictated by the size of the large battery that had to fit inside. As a result, the answer to the question of whether the device is liked is different for everyone, but for me personally it is negative - I really want to quickly hide the Jiayu G3 in some kind of case. It remains only to note that there are also gray and silver variants of the smartphone on sale.

    Software

    The communicator is running Android 4.0.4 operating system (firmware 4.1.2 has recently appeared). The system is presented almost in its original form, there are no additional shells. Initially, the Chinese language is set as the main language in the system, so to switch the interface to Russian, you will have to work a little and stray through the settings menu.

    From the system lock screen, you can access the camera control program or the main screen. There are no non-standard icons or widgets on its five tabs.

    However, there are several additional applications in the Jiayu G3 firmware. They can be divided into two categories: useful programs and not so - at least for Russian-speaking users. The first group includes Flashlight, File Manager and Launched Applications Manager - all of them do not need special introductions and explanations of their work.

    The principle of operation of the program for managing two cellular communication channels is the same for all communicators based on the MediaTek platform that have been tested. The smartphone owner has the opportunity to choose which of the two GSM channels will be used in different situations: when making calls, sending SMS and MMS messages, and for data transmission. One of the two SIM-cards can be assigned as the preferred one, and it will be used to perform the mentioned operations. Or you can opt out of this setting and make a choice each time the need arises.

    Display and sound

    Like a couple of iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X / UIM X1, the review hero attracts the attention of the public with his display: for a budget smartphone, its characteristics can only be called remarkable. The diagonal of the IPS matrix is 4.5″, the resolution is 720 × 1280 pixels, and as a result, the density of dots per inch (one of the most popular parameters for comparing smartphones recently) is 326 ppi. It will not be superfluous to point out again that the pixel density of such a display is greater than that of the Samsung Galaxy S 3 screen, less than that of the iPhone 4 display, and exactly the same as the dot density of the Retina matrix in the iPhone 5.

    The screen is covered with protective glass, up to 7 simultaneous touches are recognized, the viewing angles are very comfortable, the backlight brightness is adjusted automatically, but in bright sunlight the picture on the display becomes difficult to see.

    Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the Monitors and Projectors and TV sections, will tell you more about the Jiayu G3 screen.

    The front surface of the screen is covered with a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of bright light sources, there is a very effective anti-glare filter that reduces the brightness of reflected objects. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen, so fingerprints do not appear as quickly as in the case of ordinary glass, but are removed more easily. Note that the effectiveness of the oleophobic coating on this screen is quite high.

    With manual brightness control, its maximum value was 350 cd/m², and the minimum was 22 cd/m². The maximum value is not outstanding, but in principle sufficient - even in bright daylight, you can see something on the screen. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. There is an automatic brightness control based on the light sensor, which in complete darkness and in an office lit by artificial light reduces the brightness to about 50 cd / m² (acceptable), and in a very bright environment the brightness increases to the maximum. At low brightness, there is no backlight modulation at all, so there is no backlight flicker.

    The Jiayu G3 uses an IPS-type matrix, so the screen has very good viewing angles without hue inversion and without significant color shift even when looking at large deviations from the perpendicular to the screen. True, the black field becomes brighter when deflected diagonally and, depending on the direction of the deflection, acquires a red-violet or greenish-gray tint. However, in this smartphone, this increase in the brightness of the black field is very weakly expressed. When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of black and white fields is good. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 23 ms (11 ms on + 12 ms off), the transition between halftones 25% and 75% (by the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 27 ms. There is some brightness correction depending on the overall lightness of the image (brightness decreases for light images and increases for dark ones), but it only works when outputting halftone images, and there is no adjustment when displaying a black or white field (or primary colors) in full screen. Why such a function is needed remains a mystery, but in the end, the gamma curve constructed from 32 points, although it did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows, however, had a very strange shape, not at all resembling a standard power function with an exponent of 2.2:

    Contrast is high - 960:1. The color gamut is very close to sRGB:

    The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components to each other:

    The color temperature is slightly higher than the standard 6500 K, and the ΔE index is quite high, about 12. However, both parameters change little over the entire part of the gray scale that matters, so there are no special claims to the subjective view of color reproduction. (The dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

    As a result, in terms of the totality of characteristics, the screen of this smartphone reasonably deserves a high rating.

    Both Jiayu G3 speakers are, frankly, unimportant. First of all, this refers to the sound quality: if the telephone speaker adds a “cold effect” to the voices of all interlocutors (during a conversation, it seems that they have a stuffy nose), then the main speaker simply starts to make a rattle and creak along with low frequencies at full power . Speaking of sound power, both speakers have it average. The interlocutors also complained about not very high-quality voice transmission by the built-in microphone. Thus, the conclusion is the following: the quality of the sound subsystem significantly spoils the impression of the hero of the review.

    The sound quality of the bundled stereo headset, on the contrary, turned out to be at a good level, and its white color and comfortable ear cushions evoked only positive emotions. However, in any barrel of honey there is a significant fly in the ointment, in this case it turned out to be a large resistance of the headset speakers. As a result, even at maximum power, the sound from them is not as loud as we would like - sufficient for most cases, but fans of listening to music in transport will have to purchase other headphones.

    The control unit of the headset with a microphone and a call answer key is not detachable; a clip is provided for attaching it to clothing.

    The communicator is equipped with an FM radio that only works when headphones are connected. The signal reception quality is average, the control program has the functions of automatically searching for stations, compiling a list of channels, recording audio and recognizing RDS signals.

    Wireless interfaces and communication

    Jiayu G3 is equipped with all the wireless modules necessary for modern life. It can be immediately noted that there were no serious problems with their work during the testing of the communicator.

    The characteristics of the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules look somewhat strange for a 2012 smartphone based on the MediaTek platform: for example, only the outdated version of the Bluetooth 2.0 stack is supported, and the Wi-Fi module, judging by its description, is not capable of working in 802.11n networks - only in "slow" networks 802.11b / g. Most likely, this is a firmware limitation of this particular smartphone model, since the same iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X, built on an absolutely identical platform, has both Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.

    Since the hero of the review has one communication module, it is impossible to simultaneously make calls or transfer data over two networks (or one, but in two-channel mode), despite the fact that there are two slots for SIM cards.

    Unfortunately, nothing positive can be said about the operation of the GPS receiver in the Jiayu G3 - they simply could not be used normally. For almost 10 minutes, the satellite navigation receiver could not catch a single signal from the satellites! And this is with A-GPS and EPO turned on - technologies that can significantly speed up the process of determining coordinates. As a result, the communicator was able to only approximately determine its location based on data from base stations of the cellular network and Wi-Fi access points. The problematic GPS receiver significantly "tarnished" the reputation of the Jiayu G3. It is possible to restore it to working capacity, at least there is a description of the necessary actions on the network, but this requires root access and a certain level of skills from the owner of the smartphone. Fortunately, there is information that on the new official firmware, which we did not have time to check, the problem with GPS operation has already been fixed - well, or it has become less pronounced.

    Cameras

    The cameras in Jiayu G3 and iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X are completely the same. The matrix of the main one has a resolution of 8 megapixels, it is complemented by an autofocus system and an LED flash. An additional camera on the front side of the smartphone has a photosensitive matrix with a resolution of 2 megapixels.

    The shooting management program is built into the operating system, so we are already familiar with its interface. In general, it is convenient, but in order to get to the desired setting, you often have to aim at small icons and make your way through long menus.

    There are a lot of settings for the camera, it makes no sense to describe all of them here. It is worth mentioning, however, that the list of camera modes contains 4 items: photo shooting, video shooting, panoramic shooting and panoramic macro shooting.

    The speed of the camera and the launch of the application itself are high, however, the principle of the autofocus system of the hero of the review, as well as that of the iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X, requires getting used to and does not seem very convenient. Instead of setting the focus every time you take a picture, the system continuously calculates it, constantly focusing on one or another object in the frame. And in the end, the picture may not turn out the way it was intended: either the system will focus in the wrong place, or the communicator itself will move, and the settings will “move out”. Of course, the focus area can be specified manually by simply touching the screen in the right place, but, firstly, this is not always convenient, especially when shooting with one hand, and secondly, this operation eliminates all the advantages in shooting speed, for which, judging by apparently, the developers of the program and the autofocus system have installed such a strange algorithm for their work.

    Be that as it may, Jiayu G3 is able to shoot the surrounding reality, and does it quite well for such an inexpensive communicator (although by and large the quality of the pictures, of course, does not stand up to criticism). The resolution of pictures can reach 3264×2448 pixels. Video recording is carried out with a resolution of 720p and a frequency of 30 frames per second, the recording format is MPEG-4, H.263/AAC-LC. Only the amount of free memory on the card limits the maximum length of movies.

    Offline work

    Jiayu G3 stock battery capacity is an impressive 2750 mAh. Frankly, few smartphones on the market can boast such a "thrifty" battery.

    The presence of a capacious battery, coupled with a very economical platform, should, in theory, ensure a very long battery life of a Chinese smartphone. Only a large and bright display can spoil the statistics here, but only tests will show whether this is so.

    So, in the mode of reading an e-book with automatic adjustment of the brightness of the backlight, the communicator worked for 17 hours. Listening to music with the screen turned off drained the battery by 20% in 15 hours: unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time for a longer test, but even this indicator can be used to judge that in this mode the smartphone is able to work for several days. The last test is playing 1080p video, its result is 4.5 hours of continuous operation of the Jiayu G3.

    Video viewing 4.5 h 2.5 h

    The conclusions are unequivocal: a capacious battery and MediaTek platform allowed Jiayu G3 to become one of the most “long-lived” devices of this class on the market. It lost only a little to the record holder - the Philips Xenium W732 communicator.

    Performance and speed

    The capabilities of the MediaTek MTK6577 processor are already well known to us; together with their younger "brother" - MTK6575 - they firmly established themselves in the SoC segment for budget smartphones, which began to appear on the market in large quantities, and some of them managed to visit our editorial office. The combination of the MTK6577 chip, 1 GB RAM and a display with a resolution of 720 × 1280 pixels in terms of performance, we examined in the iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X review, so we should not expect any revelations in this regard from Jiayu G3, and its capabilities are easy to predict . However, it is possible and necessary to check the smartphone in performance tests from our traditional set in order to verify the forecasts.

    Quadrant Standard:

    The assumptions turned out to be correct, the results of the iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X and Jiayu G3 tests are on the same level. Both communicators demonstrated good performance for budget devices, at the level of top-end smartphones two years ago. Of course, they cannot compete with the flagships of the past, 2012, but, given the HD resolution of the display, one can only be glad that inexpensive communicators are able to satisfy the needs of most users in most tasks. The sluggishness of the interface of the operating system is still found here and there, but in general there are no annoying moments, and rare “brakes” are easily explained by the peculiarities of the Android OS itself.

    It remains to look at the results of two more performance tests and check the ability to play HD-video.

    Support for hardware playback of HD video, as such, in Jiayu G3, as well as in iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X, is missing. The capabilities of one processor are not enough for trouble-free playback of "massive" videos.

    Along with the update of the operating system to Android 4.1, iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X has support for hardware video decoding in H.264 format. With a high degree of probability, this happened in the new Jiayu G3 firmware. How smooth and high-quality playback hardware decoding is able to provide can now be seen if you follow the links in the table presented earlier. All videos were opened by a regular player.

    findings

    With regret, but I have to admit: Jiayu G3 disappointed. The initial positive impressions gradually changed to negative ones. The desire to purchase a communicator with similar characteristics, which arose once, finally disappeared after a problem with the GPS receiver was discovered. But even before that, the opinion about the communicator was spoiled by the average quality of the speakers and microphone, as well as the clumsy design.

    Of course, there is a possibility that the mentioned problems are the features of a particular instance, but playing the lottery when ordering a smartphone from China seems redundant. Especially when you consider the presence on the Russian market of an almost complete clone of the hero of the review - iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X, in the event of the purchase of which at least there is someone to make claims and return the purchase.

    By and large, the Jiayu G3 has only one advantage over the iconBIT NetTAB Mercury X and its Chinese twin UMI X1 - a 2750 mAh battery and, as a result, longer battery life.

    The appearance of the communicator is a matter of taste, but subjectively, the combination of different case materials and the abundance of empty, unoccupied space do not color the smartphone. A small plus is the presence of an LED indicator.

    When asked what will outweigh: the shortcomings of a smartphone, albeit potential ones, or its attractive price, features and an abundance of various “bonuses” from Chinese sellers (you can get a cover, a bumper and a second battery for free) - everyone can answer on their own. In the end, you can order the same UMI X1 if you really want to save money.

    Good day to all! I've been sitting on the muska for three months now, so it's my time to write my first review. Just the reason - the arrival of the new Jiayu G3S.

    The phone was bought on a promotion at , plus an additional battery was ordered for $ 5, here's the total price of $ 180.99. About an interesting confusion with add. battery - a little later :)

    This is not my first purchase on Aliexpress. Before that, Jiayu G3 was purchased and a cover for it. I already sold the G3 and didn’t think about the review, but I use the case with the current phone, I’ll do a review on it a little later.

    The first thing is tracking. 23 days from receiving the correct track (25 from receiving the wrong one). Well, against the backdrop of 36 days of tedious waiting for the first G3 - a pretty good result. There were also problems with receiving - the stubborn "workers" of the Russian Post in a rather rude and mocking manner announced to me that they would not look for anything without notification. I had no time to wait for a notice, so after the threat of writing a complaint against them, they immediately had a desire to find me a package.

    Now I suggest you look at the characteristics of the phone indicated at the time of purchase (now they are selling the G3T in full and have changed the characteristics to new ones).

    Now let's start the review itself. Package. It is a phone box wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap.

    Now the box itself. It is made of thick cardboard, looks quite presentable, but the edges are wrinkled - i.e. no longer suitable for a gift. Although…

    We take out the very bed of the phone and accessories from the cardboard box. What do we see there?

    In sachets.

    Without them.

    Here we have:
    -telephone;
    - battery Li-Ion 2750mAh;
    - battery Li-Pol 3000mAh;
    -USB cable for charging and connecting to other devices (by the way, there is no OTG support, he said, until he forgot);
    - Z / U and an adapter for a euro socket;
    -headphones;
    - a sheet of stickers with information about the device;
    - protective film on the screen.

    What surprised me was the absence of any hints of instructions. Later I understood why - they sewed up an electronic manual in Chinese directly into the phone. The move is quite controversial. I'm sorry, I don't have screenshots (whoever has - share, add to the review, I didn't think about them right away).

    Close-up of a sticker with information about the device and IMEI.

    Outwardly, the G3S differs from the G3 in the designation of slots for SIM cards: in the G3 they are marked with "G" and "W" like; G3S has SIM1 and SIM2.

    Now batteries. Let's start with the fact that two original Li-Ion 2750mAh batteries were supposed to arrive. And the original Li-Pol 3000mAh arrived (these come with 1.5-GHz G3T) and the fake Li-Ion 2750mAh (weighs 44 grams instead of 54). The seller rested and by hook or by crook proves that this plant supplies fake batteries. Requested a moneyback for this - zero response. If tomorrow does not answer, I will open a dispute. In the meantime, here's a photo of the batteries.

    We charge a 3000mAh battery into the phone, insert an MTS SIM card and a 16GB flash drive. Everything goes off the rails. By the way, about the battery - supposedly 2750mAh started right away; at 3000mAh only with the help of charging, although it was approximately 55% charged.

    And let's immediately move on to reviewing the appearance of the phone, although it seems to me that everyone has already seen it. The left end is empty; on the right - the volume rocker, which can still unlock the phone (and the "+" on it allows you to take a picture in camera mode); the top edge is a 3.5mm jack connector and an on/off button; on the bottom end - an inverted micro-USB connector and a hole for a microphone.

    The back panel is VERY easily soiled, as many have already said, and on a silver phone (I had a silver G3) it is not so noticeable. And that's why there's such a beautiful back surface...

    … in the blink of an eye turns into something terrible.

    By the way, about the complete film. It took me a couple of days. Now I know that I need to be more careful. Already ripped off. You need to look for high-quality and matte.

    Now the bumper. Looks pretty decent.

    However, it was worth putting it on the phone, as some problems got out. It seems that this bumper is one of those that are made anyhow and cost less than a dollar. From below, he did not sit down at first at all, but after a couple of days of use, he seemed to have taken shape and now the situation is better.

    Now a charger and an adapter for an euro plug. Honestly - I still don’t understand what current the charger is designed for - probably stupid. 3000mAh battery charged in ~3 hours. It seems like they found out that the charger is 1A. Picking up an adapter for our plug, at first I thought that it would fall apart - it feels completely unreliable. But it seems like it has already withstood a couple of charges, so it's not so bad.

    Separately, I would like to say about the headphones. This is exactly the case when there is no desire to throw out the complete headphones as soon as possible. With small external differences (no Jiayu identification marks), these ears have already been described by a friend.

    Well, I suggest you compare the sizes of cardboard boxes from Jiayu G3 and Jiayu G3S. Unfortunately, I did not have a plastic case from the G3.

    It's time to start the phone. And the first thing we see is an excellent 4.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, covered with Gorilla Glass (and I have no reason to doubt this). I don’t know how much I managed to convey his steepness in the photo - probably not by much. But the display is excellent.

    Now let's move on to the camera tests. The front one is declared as 2.0, and in principle it looks like the truth. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures with it. Therefore, I will show you pictures with the rear 8-megapixel camera (which I shrunk to 40% of the original size; this did not affect the quality in any way, in general, you can get an idea of the quality. 4mb).

    Panoramas are quite good for the phone. I was convinced that the panoramas are terrible. But there is.

    The phone is preinstalled with not the cleanest Android version 4.2.1 with root, a bunch of Chinese programs and a launcher from Jiayu (which, as far as I understand, is taken from LeWa OS and remade). It even has interchangeable themes.

    AnTuTu results that I got on this firmware.

    Then I, one might say, freaked out and sewed MIUI OS based on Android 4.2.1 into my phone. The TWRP recovery was installed in a minute, in another 3 - MIUI itself from the recovery. It started up for 2 minutes, after which the phone was ready to go. Personally, I liked this firmware much more than my own.

    However, AnTuTu Tester showed about 600 fewer parrots.

    Wi-Fi test, 2 meters and 15 meters through 2 brick walls from the router, respectively.

    Honest multi-touch for 5 touches.

    35FPS in NenaMark2.

    I won’t show you the GPS Test - the phone saw 11 satellites, but neither after 3, nor after 5, nor after 10 minutes did he want to connect to them (In use - 0).

    In addition, I came across a problem known among G3S owners - the vibration motor overheats and refuses to work for a while. The solution is to replace it. But that doesn't bother me.

    In general, what do we have?
    + Excellent display;
    + Excellent performance for reasonable money;
    + Glass Gorilla Glass 2 (no matter what anyone says, I personally tend to think that it is there);
    + Solid appearance (not like remnants of Gnusmas, IMHO);

    Unexpected actions of the seller;
    - Terribly easily soiled plastic case.

    EDIT: Adding info.

    First, about the sound. The speaker is good, the interlocutor can be heard even in crowded places. The external speaker sounds very good and loud, and even at the maximum it does not break into a wheeze and continues to play at a good level.
    Of the not the worst headphones, I have Explay MPH335 earplugs (honestly, nothing else). The phone “pumps” them to the fullest, the sound is loud and clear, the bass is there, and very juicy, I like it.

    Now about GPS. The method described by a friend in the comments helped, namely:

    With GPS The solution is very simple - give him the Internet (and not take it away), turn on all sorts of EPO and AGPS, let him find satellites and forget about problems. On G3 - determined in 30 seconds after finding it in 4-10 seconds.
    Well on par with galaxy note n7000
    I tried to do as he described, and - oh, a miracle! Cold start about 2-3 minutes, sees 8 satellites, uses 6.

    We turn off the Internet, restart the GPS, what we see.

    Everything really worked really well.

    Now about the time of work. So far, I don’t risk pulling a fake 2750mAh, although the day went just with it, and quite successfully. Now 3000mAh is installed, with very intensive use, by the evening there are 20 percent left. If only for calls, an hour and a half of the Internet and the same number of games, then it’s enough for two days calmly. During the night he eats 1-2% in the usual (non-air) mode.

    Please note that this is my first review and I tried to make it as good as I can. I will be glad to hear criticism or requests to add any information that interests you.
