Why is it more practical to do it yourself

It is always easier for a non-professional to buy a shoe locker than to make it. However, there are a number of nuances:

  1. First, the range of inexpensive shelves is often scarce.
  2. Secondly, the sizes of shelves in stores do not correspond to a rational calculation. The foot of the average resident of the CIS is still much larger than the Chinese, who supply most of the inexpensive furniture, suggest.
  3. In addition, the height of the shelves is almost always the same. This is not entirely logical, since in winter people wear boots with high tops.

It is better to have one shelf with a higher height or hooks on the sides of the shelf to adjust the height yourself depending on the season.

What to consider when choosing materials and components

Is it difficult to make a standard shoe cabinet? The obvious answer is no, it's not difficult. It is necessary to take into account a number of nuances before completing the drawings, purchasing material and starting assembly.

Let's look at the most important details of your future shoe locker:

Note: buying one standard sheet of chipboard and sawing it as a result is more expensive than ordering in a furniture store / production exactly the number of parts and the dimensions that you provide in the drawings.

  • shelves do not have to be made of wood. Take a closer look at the type of shelves on the dish dryer. Lattice metal shelves - this is the best option;
  • chipboard - a material that combines cheapness and functionality. Laminated sheets are sold in many furniture stores and small industries;
  • the back wall of the cabinet can be made of hardboard - pressed cardboard, which is often used in furniture production.

Designer's Notes

In order for the design of the locker to be practical, you need to take into account the features of storing shoes and correctly calculate the dimensions of the shelves:

  • the bottom of the cabinet should not be covered by anything, otherwise water will collect inside;
  • shoes need ventilation. This may be several holes in the sidewalls, if the cabinet is planned to be closed (with doors);
  • the depth of the shelves should correspond to the length of the box from the largest pair of shoes in the house.

How to calculate cabinet dimensions

Shoe cabinet sketch

Provided that the largest pair of shoes in the house is 42 sizes, i.e. 27 cm long, the shelf should have a “depth” with a margin - say, 28 cm.

Depending on the size of the shoes, the size must be varied. The large side of the shelf depends on the number of pairs of shoes that need to be put:

  • collect all the shoes that you plan to put in the locker and measure how much space it takes in a row;
  • consider the designed number of shelves (3 or 4);
  • put a small margin in the width of the shelf.

Chipboard thickness - 16 mm. Accordingly, the outer width of the cabinet will be 32 mm larger than the width of the shelf.

What will you need

It is worth noting that the sizes below are calculated based on the fact that the maximum shoe size is 42nd.

External dimensions of the cabinet: height - 1200 mm, length (depth) - 320 mm, and width - 900 mm. It is necessary to choose sizes so that they are close to the dimensions of standard parts that are in every furniture store.

In this case, the set of necessary parts is as follows:

    • 4 lattice or chipboard (to your taste) shelves 864 mm wide and 280 mm deep;
    • top cover standard size 900 by 320 mm;
    • side walls with a height of 1184 (taking into account the thickness of the top cover of 16 mm, the height of the cabinet will be) and a length (“depth”) of 320 mm;
      frames (small parts made of chipboard) with a height of 100 mm and a width of 868 mm for fastening the structure at the back and front, called drawers;

Helpful advice: a rope can be pulled over the last shelf in order to fasten the tops of the boots with the help of small clothespins: this way they will not break.

  • figured facades (improvised doors) made of MDF with a height of 1195 mm and a width of 447 mm (2 doors plus a margin of 4 mm for easy opening);
  • fiberboard sheet with a height of 1195 mm and a width of 895 mm for the manufacture of the rear wall;
  • 4 hinges for furniture;
  • 2 door handles;
  • 8 confirmations (5 by 70 mm). Confirmat - a special furniture screw for fastening cabinet elements;
  • self-tapping screws 16 by 4 mm - it is better to take with a margin, a few dozen;
  • adjustable shelf holders: 4 for each shelf.

Connection technology

The shoe cabinet is assembled in the following order:

  1. Holes in the side walls for inserting confirmations must be made with a diameter of about 8 mm, and at the ends of the tsarg frames - with a diameter of 5 mm. Drilling depth - half the length of the furniture screw.
  2. The rigidity of the locker will give metal corners. They will also be needed if you will attach the finished structure to the wall.
  3. Hinges for facades, corners, the back wall must be fixed with self-tapping screws.
  4. Attach shelf holders, handles for facades and hang shelves.
  5. You can put the locker on the floor so you can sit on it when you put on your shoes, but it's better to hang it up and find another use for the countertop.

Helpful advice: if everything is in order with ventilation, then it will be dry enough in the locker and you can also hide the Internet connection in it. Then a Wi-Fi router will stand on top of the tabletop.

If you spend some time designing and creating drawings, then your locker will turn out to be much more practical and cheaper than the products of Chinese craftsmen.

Shoe rack, she is also a shelf for storing shoes, should be in every home, otherwise the hallway will reign chaos. Putting the shoes on a special shelf or putting them in a drawer, you maintain order and cleanliness in the house, protect the shoes from the encroachments of pets. Furniture stores offer a wide range of similar designs, but it is not always possible to choose the right option for the interior, or the cost of production is prohibitive. In this article, we will look at several options for creating a stylish and functional shoe rack with your own hands.

The most important requirement for a shoe rack is the ability to accommodate the daily shoes of each family member. That is, a modest small locker is suitable for a bachelor, and for a family of 3-4 people, the size of the shoe rack should be appropriate. The main problem of shop models is that most of them were made in China, where, as you know, they have a weakness for everything miniature and compact. In this case, compactness is not synonymous with ergonomics, so you have to pick up a hammer, boards and learn how to make a shoe rack with your own hands.

Another drawback of almost all shoe cabinets offered by stores is the complete lack of ventilation. Imagine this situation - you returned home on a rainy autumn Friday evening, took off your shoes, put your wet shoes on the shelf and set out to spend the whole weekend at home. By Monday, when you have to go to work again, wet leather shoes will look very deplorable. Ventilation is essential to keep shoes in good condition and extend their lifespan.

So, what qualities should an ideal shoe rack have:

  1. Ergonomics - a shoe cabinet should not occupy half of the hallway.
  2. Functionality - this includes the concept of spaciousness and use for other purposes. For example, you can sit down on a locker (the role of a stool), put things (the role of a bedside table), and a shoe rack with a mirror will become a kind of dressing table.
  3. The presence of good ventilation - we do not hint that fans should be installed inside the cabinet and pipes should be laid, it is enough just to ensure the flow of fresh air in a natural way.
  4. Aesthetics - the appearance and design of the shoe should be in harmony with the interior.

All the schemes of shoe racks described below fully comply with these requirements.

Shoe dryer

This shoe rack will appeal to lovers of simple and practical solutions. The classic hanging dish rack was taken as the basis. Why not? The design does not stand on the floor, so you can easily clean up under it. The shelves are not solid, but in the form of stainless steel gratings, which means that water or melted snow will flow calmly through the bars of such a metal shoe rack, they can be quickly washed by wiping with a rag. Such furniture looks quite original and minimalist - no extra bulky doors, legs and decorative elements. This option is perfect for a high-tech apartment and loft.

Helpful Hint: If pets live in the house, it is still better to make light doors to protect shoes. To do this, use glass or plastic.

The best thing about doing it yourself is that you can set any size. So, when drawing up a shoe rack, consider which shoes you use most often. For example, if a fisherman with a size 45 lives at home, who uses high rubber boots every other day, then the dimensions of the shelf should be appropriate. The upper part of such a “dryer” can be taken away for slippers or light shoes. Dirty or wet shoes should not be placed there so that the shoes on the floor below do not suffer.

To make such a cabinet, you don’t need to buy a whole sheet of chipboard at all - ordinary furniture panels are enough. They can be found in any building supermarket, while the shields are already completely ready for assembly - they are glued with an edge and sawn into equal parts. We will specifically not write the exact height and width of the shoebox so that you create an individual drawing for your home.

The second thing to take care of is metal meshes. They are also sold in hardware stores. The standard mesh widths are 46.4 cm, 56.4 cm, 76.4 cm and 86.4 cm, but custom nets can be ordered (it will cost a little more). If you choose shelves with a maximum width of 86.4 cm, then the external dimensions of the cabinet for 4 shelves will be as follows (HxWxD): 120x 90x 34 cm. A depth of 34 cm is enough to fit size 45 boots there.

An important point: To increase the functionality and compactness of the shelves, place them at an angle inside the cabinet. So the water will drain in a given direction, and the cabinet will take up a minimum of space.

What parts are needed to assemble a shoe rack:

  • sidewalls 118.4x 32 cm - 2 PCS(standard furniture board for the manufacture of wardrobes);
  • facades 119.5x 44.7 cm - 2 PCS(you can buy straight boards made of laminated chipboard or figured MDF facades);
  • top cabinet cover 90x32 cm - 1 PCS;
  • tsargi 86.8x 10 cm - 2 PCS(also sold in furniture stores);
  • back wall 119.5x 89.5 cm - 1 PCS(it is better to make it from thin and cheap hardboard).

It remains only to buy the necessary fasteners and assemble a shoe cabinet. You don't even have to cut anything - all the finished parts are already on sale!

Fittings and fasteners required for shoe dryers:

  • confirmat 5x 70 mm - 8 PCS;
  • metal furniture corner - 8 PCS;
  • self-tapping screws 4x16;
  • furniture hinges 4-hinged – 4 PCS;
  • dowels and front handles - at your discretion.

To work, you will need ordinary toolsthat can be found in the house of every owner - a drill, a screwdriver, a hammer.

How to assemble a shoebox:

  1. With help confirmations pull the sides to the sides of the future shoe rack. In the sidewalls for the confirmations, drill through holes 8 mm in diameter, in the end parts of the tsarg, also make holes with a diameter of 5 mm and a depth of 55 - 60 mm. Drill so that the holes line up exactly.
  2. Screw half of the number of corners to the top roof, and use the remaining 4 instead of wall fasteners, attaching them to the back of the sidewalls.
  3. Screw all parts with self-tapping screws. Before fixing the hardboard, check the evenness of the geometry of the box - its diagonals must be equal.
  4. Measure on the vertical sides of the facades 15 cm above and below and 2.2 cm deep. At the marked points, make holes for furniture hinges with a diameter of 3.5 cm.
  5. Install the doors and screw on the handles.
  6. Hang the locker 12-15 cm from the floor so that you can tidy up under it. The distance between the bottom and second shelf must be at least 35 cm to fit boots.

Helpful Hint: In rainy or snowy weather, place a drip tray under your shoe rack to keep water from dripping onto the floor.

compact shoe rack

In this chapter, we will describe the step-by-step process of creating a very original, miniature and elementary shoebox. It will suit any interior design, and even children can be involved in the decoration process. Shoes on such a shelf look very neat, and it is simply impossible to create a heap there.

Even those who have never held carpentry tools in their hands will cope with the creation of such a narrow shoebox. You don't even have to ask your neighbor for a hacksaw - just draw up a drawing with the right dimensions and ask to cut the boards in the same building store where you bought them! The only thing you can't do without when assembling is a drill.

To build a compact shoe rack, you will need the following tools and materials (we provide dimensions for a design that will suit a bachelor or a young couple):

  • the simplest long shoe brushes with stiff bristles 160 x 40 mm - 3 - 5 PCS(depending on the length of the future shoe rack);
  • moisture resistant plywood 12 mm thick: 1020x 370 mm - 1 PCS(BUT ); 1020х 90 mm - 1 PCS(AT ); 1020x130 mm - 1 PCS (With) ; 90x 118 mm - 1 PCS(D); 1020x 60 mm - 1 PCS(E);
  • spikes 6 mm - 6 PCS;
  • wood screws;
  • building glue for wood;
  • acrylic paint;
  • moisture resistant transparent varnish;
  • brush;
  • dowels.

You can decorate the shelf not only with acrylic paints, even the usual one will do. gouache if it is then immediately opened with a transparent varnish. If you want to do without varnish, use enamel. And if you like a beautiful wood texture, you can simply cover the shoe rack with clear varnish, lightly tinted with stain.

How to make a shoebox:

  1. Assembly should begin with an element containing brushes. Drill 6 through holes in the edge of the plywood B.

  2. Insert six spikes smeared with glue into the holes obtained.

  3. in plywood With make exactly the same holes, coat it with glue and connect it to plywood B. It would be best to compress these elements with clamps until the glue is completely cured, or simply place some kind of load on them.

  4. Glue the sides of element D in the same way to the resulting structure. After each glue application, firmly squeeze the parts to be glued.

  5. With a hacksaw, saw off the handles of the brushes, if any (it is better to immediately buy the cheapest brushes without handles).

  6. Drill 2 through holes in each brush and screw them 1 cm from the edge of the structure with short self-tapping screws so that the caps are on the inside of the brushes.

  7. Make through holes with a drill in the unused parts of elements A and E, as shown in the image below.

  8. Using self-tapping screws, connect all parts of the shelf to the end.

  9. Paint the shoe in the desired color or paint with different paints. In our case, we got a solid bright green design, but you can ask the younger family members to participate in the process or paint the plywood yourself. If there are no abilities for fine arts, you can do decoupage or assemble a mosaic.
  10. It remains only to drill holes in the wall for dowels and hang the shoe rack.

Shoe rack made of PVC pipes

Finally, we have prepared for you the most unusual and exciting master class on creating (let's not be afraid of this word) creative shoe rack in the hallway. With such a design, you can always keep your house clean and tidy, and even children will be happy to put their shoes “in the house”.

What is this wonderful shoe rack made of? You will be surprised, but these are the most common PVC sewer pipes that are available in any modern city apartment. They cost much less than high-quality wood or moisture-resistant plywood, while they are distinguished by an almost eternal life and ease of installation.

For one such shoe rack, you will need one sewer pipe 300 mm in diameter. The standard length of such a product is 3 m. To make a roomy and deep enough compartment for an adult’s shoes, 30 cm is enough. This means that as many as 10 shelves will be obtained from one pipe.

Cutting a PVC pipe is not difficult. To do this, you can use a regular hacksaw with a fine tooth. Mark the surface with a marker and divide into 10 equal parts. Each piece of pipe one side abrade with sandpaper to smooth out sharp edges. The second end will adjoin the wall, so grind it not necessarily.

Since such round posts very much resemble stumps or logs, we decided to decorate them accordingly - by making an imitation of birch bark. Of course, it was possible to draw it, but it is much easier and faster to paste over the pipes with wallpaper with a suitable pattern. You can decorate the shoe however you like. For a monochromatic "gray" hallway, shelves of bright saturated colors are suitable; for a modest square, it is better to slightly shade the shoebox by painting it black or dark brown Colour. Before painting, it is advisable to degrease PVC so that acrylic or gouache lays evenly.

It remains only to glue all the pieces with epoxy glue. First, glue 4 pieces horizontally, laying them on a flat surface. For a more secure fixation, press them together with clothespins or clips, which can be removed after the glue has set.

Glue the next 3 blanks onto 4 pipes, and then the rest like a pyramid. In fact, the sequence of gluing and the number of pipes in the rows may vary at your discretion. Epoxy glue is very durable, and if you glue the pipe well with it, it will not fall off even at an angle or on weight. So this is a great opportunity to dream up.

An alternative way to create a shoe rack with your own hands from PVC pipes in video format:

Shoe rack: photo

There are a lot of options for shoe racks, but if you don’t know what to start from, go to the nearest furniture store and take one of the proposed models as a basis. You can turn an ordinary “boring” shelf into a functional shoe rack with a seat, a mirror, a hanger, or additional drawers for brushes and creams. But before going shopping, we suggest you be inspired by the following photo selection:

What a great variety of shoes in stores and markets! The female half cannot resist without buying another pair of shoes for a new dress. For men, there is a choice of practical shoes and there are plenty of them too. How much inconvenience does shoes bring in the hallway? Where is all this stored at home?

The solution can be found in a furniture store, namely, buy a shoe rack or make it yourself.

Someone has a small apartment and a narrow small hallway, while others have a spacious house. Some live with adult children and grandchildren, while others live alone. Hallways, like families, are different, so typical pieces of furniture do not always fit a particular room. A comfortable shoe rack, created with your own hands, will help solve the problem of choice.

With it, your hallway will be transformed into a stylish and comfortable business card at home.

How to choose the right one? To begin with, let's get acquainted with the types of furniture such as a shoe rack.

  1. Shoe wardrobe.

It is very convenient in small rooms, as the doors move apart and can be combined with the main wardrobe for clothes.

  1. Showcase rack with doors.

It can be placed along the entire wall, the size of the shelves is any, but the disadvantage of such a shoe rack is instability.

  1. Slim-format cabinet.

This cabinet has hinged doors at an angle of 45-90 degrees. And the name speaks for itself. This type of furniture is "thin", the shoes will be placed on a slope.

High boots such as over the knee boots can be deformed on such shelves.

  1. Kaloshnitsa.

More suitable for a balcony. Shoes on such shelves dry quickly, but storage is inconvenient.

  1. Rack.

It is the simplest design, but unstable and unaesthetic for the hallway.

  1. Wardrobe cabinet.

The most common and practical shoe.

Advantages:

  • With tenacity;
  • M leg functionality;
  • K compactness;
  • E aesthetic.

Closed shoes are suitable for people with pets. It will help protect shoes from all sorts of damage from pets.

For cabinets, you can make folding, sliding and regular doors. So it will take up little space. A shoe rack made of laminated chipboard will be durable and will not fail for a long time.

Wooden models are easy to make with your own hands, which saves the family budget.

Shelves and drawers in the closet can be made for any type and size of shoes. And from above it is possible to make a table or upholster it with a cloth, a shoe rack with a seat in the hallway will come out.

The seat replaces an ottoman or stool for easy dressing.

Types of materials that can be used for shoe racks:

Metal and wood make the cabinet heavier, shoes will not breathe in plastic. MDF is a good choice, but not cheap. The most suitable shoe storage material- Chipboard. Does not weigh down the shoe rack and is easy to assemble.

Today it is the most demanded material in the segment of furniture for shoes.

And so, let's stop at the cabinet cabinet made of chipboard.Of the tools we need:

Procurement of parts

Instructions for assembling a shoe rack with your own hands

Chipboard thickness + Planned shelf width + Half chipboard thickness.

For example, the detail is 12mm, the width of the shelf is 300. It turns out: 12+300+6=318mm.

We do this from the right and left edges. Transfer the drawing directly to the inside of the chipboard and sign each detail where it will be located. Then, when assembling, you will not confuse anything.

When marking the holes for the height and width of the shelves, you need to take into account the back part, since from this side the entire view of the cabinet is located in the same plane.

  1. Inside the shelves will be held on shelf supports. They need to drill holes. To calculate the correct location of these holes, it is necessary to subtract each thickness of the partition from the height of the rack and divide by the number of shelves.

To the result obtained, add the thickness of the shelf and half the diameter of the shelf support.

For example, the column height is 600 mm. There are two shelves planned. Shelf thickness 12 mm. Shelf support diameter 5mm.

The calculation procedure will be as follows:

600-12=588

588/2=294

294+12+2=308

Therefore, from the top you will need to measure 308 mm.

After the holes are drilled, you can put the shelf supports, filling them with glue and nailing them with a hammer.

Do-it-yourself shoe assembly according to the drawing

When all the holes are made, you can start assembling for confirmation. We attach the middle racks to the lower part, then the extreme ones. Make sure that there are no protrusions at the junctions of the corners.We attach the covers to the corners, put the shelves on the holders and install the finished boxes on the rails.

We attach furniture handles to the doors in any location. They can also be attached to awnings, or you can install sliding ones.

Decorating a handmade shoe rack can be varied.

Do-it-yourself furniture always distinguishes the interior from other apartments, where there are typical chests of drawers and wardrobes.

VIDEO: Do-it-yourself shoe cabinet.

A hanger, a nightstand for shoes, a mirror - acquaintance with the apartment begins with them. Home-made interior elements look especially interesting. Today we will tell you how to make a shoe rack.

Types of cabinets for shoes - signs of an ideal shoe rack

You can design an original shoe cabinet or use open sources. The second option will allow you to avoid mistakes and gain the necessary experience. A shoe rack in the hallway can be a simple two-row shelf or a carved chest with an advanced ventilation system. Today, on thematic sites, you can find a drawing of any furniture for shoes in the hallway.

Popular models include:

  • Open shoe rack;
  • Closed shelf - bedside table;
  • Tall narrow or elongated wardrobe - "slim";
  • Standard shoe box, combined with a mirror and a bedside table;
  • Dryer. There are models with natural ventilation and equipped with ultraviolet lamps;
  • Open or closed shoe rack (in demand among owners of large shoe collections);
  • Shoe cabinet.

You can make any shoe rack from this list. But how to do it right? Here are the signs of impeccable furniture for shoes:

  • Ergonomics. The closet should be comfortable;
  • Versatility. It is desirable that the shoe rack can be used as a stool or bedside table. If desired, you can install a mirror - you get a homemade dressing table;
  • Ventilation. Of course, it is not necessary to stretch the air duct system, mount the supply and exhaust units. Provide air circulation. This will be enough;
  • Design. Furniture should not "stand out" from the general style of the apartment. However, this nuance is decided at the design stage.

With due diligence and care, anyone familiar with electric and hand tools can create a shoe rack. The main thing is to believe in yourself.

Basic model - open rack for drying shoes

It is not our task to create another masterpiece for the Hermitage. This shoe rack will appeal to people who appreciate practical solutions without frills. This product is based on a classic dish dryer. Don't smile - it's comfortable and functional. You will see for yourself.

Such furniture fits well into the interior of the apartment, decorated in a minimalist style. By the way, it is very popular with apartment owners and professional designers.

In a house where pets live, you need to hang light glass or plastic doors on the rack. They won't stop the shoes from drying out, but they will save them from becoming a puppy's toy or a kitten's bed.

A beautiful comfortable shoe rack is a matter of legitimate pride for the master. However, several nuances must be taken into account. The characteristics of furniture depend on materials, fittings and tools. To a greater extent, the durability of the product is affected by the material.

A shoe dryer is made from furniture panels - they can be bought at hardware stores. Along with the materials, do not forget to purchase accessories:

  • Furniture metal corner - 8 pcs.;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Tsargi;
  • Hinges for doors - 4 pcs.;
  • Metal mesh shelf (quantity and size depend on your needs);
  • Handles (choose according to your preferences).

The set of tools for work includes: tape measure, marker, screwdriver (hand drill), screwdriver, grinder (sandpaper), hacksaw or electric jigsaw, hammer and pliers.

After preparation, the cabinet for shoes is assembled in a few hours:

  1. 1. Having drilled the sides of the future shoe rack, fix the sides, ends, which also need to be drilled, with confirmations on it. With a depth of 5.5–6 cm, the diameter of the holes should be 5 mm, in the sidewalls 8 mm, but they must match;
  2. 2. Screw half of the corners to the cover of the product, the rest of the shoe racks fixed on the back wall will act as wall fasteners;
  3. 3. All elements of the product are interconnected by self-tapping screws. When assembling, check the geometry of the furniture - the diagonals must be the same;
  4. 4. On the facade of the drying rack, make markings for furniture hinges and hang the doors.

The distance between the wire shelves should be at least 0.3 meters - you can put boots on the bottom. However, for do-it-yourself furniture, dimensions are not decisive: the dimensions of the product depend on your desire. Shelves for shoes made of metal mesh will be more convenient if they are installed at a slight angle.

Wooden shelf for shoes - convenient simplicity

Later, we will definitely impress friends and family with creativity, but for now we are learning. One of the simplest furniture options for storing shoes is wooden shelves. By the way, among the aesthetic inhabitants, such products are called the fashionable word "slim". But for us, this is an ordinary closet with shelves for shoes, elongated in height.

For work, we need a standard set of tools described above, a rail, furniture metal corners and several boards 15–20 mm thick. Two of them are the future sidewalls of the shoe rack, the rest will act as shelves. The height and width of the boards depends on the size of your hallway and the number of shoes. Products with a height of 90 cm and a width of 60-70 cm are considered standard.

Steps for making storage for shoes:

  1. 1. With the help of a tape measure and a marker, cut lines are outlined. We need two side racks and several shelves (the number depends on your desire);
  2. 2. After marking, we saw the boards into segments of the desired size. Rough edges can be corrected with sandpaper or a grinder;
  3. 3. We fasten the corners to the future shelves with self-tapping screws, after which we fasten them to the sidewalls;
  4. 4. A rail will be needed to ennoble the front of the wooden rack.

At the final stage, the product can be coated with a layer of varnish or acrylic paint. In fact, this furniture is the basis of most shoe racks. Let's prove it with an example. The next product is a two-section nightstand for shoes.

Shoe rack upgraded to a shoe rack

The master determines the dimensions and material of furniture based on his own needs. In the manufacture of MDF, chipboard, wood, plywood boards can be used. The latter option is durable, however, at the last stage it will have to be treated with varnish or paint.

Our future shoe rack will have the following dimensions: width - 1100 mm, height -700 mm, depth -250 mm. You can change them according to your needs. We will use plywood as the main material. To create furniture for shoes, we need the following parts:

  • Lid and bottom. Two identical boards 1100 long and 250 mm deep;
  • Sidewalls - 3 pcs. (two external, one central). Dimensions: height - 668 mm, depth - 250 mm;
  • Horizontal shelves - 2 pcs. (526x250 mm);
  • Frontal facades - 4 pcs. (311x518 mm);
  • The back wall (696x1096 mm), for its manufacture, you can use plywood or plastic a few millimeters thick.

The dimensions of the parts are indicated with the necessary indents and gaps for cutting and edging.

Accessories and consumables that cannot be made at home:

  • Plastic sandwiches (overshoes) for side racks - 4 sets;
  • Handles - 4 pcs. (by the number of sections), self-tapping screws, confirmations, corners, minifixes, adhesive tape or wood glue.

Add an awl, drills and confirmation bits to the standard tools and you can start assembling.

At the first stage, a box is assembled from the side racks, the lid and the bottom. Minifixes are used as fasteners. The next step is the installation of two internal shelves (fasteners - corners or minifixes).

In principle, there is nothing complicated in assembling such a product. By and large, this is a slightly modernized shoe rack. But with the installation of galoshes you will have to tinker. However, this process is described in the accompanying documentation. But just in case, here are the drawings:

Work is done in the following sequence:

  1. 1. Markup;
  2. 2. Fixing shoe cabinets on the side racks. Make sure that her movement is not hindered;
  3. 3. Installation of plywood parts. Plywood plates are inserted into the grooves of the shoe cabinet, after which they are fixed with self-tapping screws or spikes.
  4. 4. We fasten the back wall;
  5. 5. We hang the front doors and fasten the handles to them:
  6. 6. The final stage is the processing of furniture with paints and varnishes.

Important! The dimensions of the parts are indicated with the necessary indents and gaps for sawing and edging.

The greatest difficulty in the latter version is the installation of a shoe cabinet. However, the drawings and diagrams attached to it will make your work easier. By the way, if you just hang the doors, you get a regular closed shoe rack.

You can buy various pieces of furniture in the store, but it will be much cheaper to make them yourself. Such a solution will not only be profitable, but will also allow you to realize the design ideas of the home master. Do-it-yourself shoe rack can be made from improvised materials. It is not at all necessary to purchase a whole sheet of laminated chipboard for work, furniture panels will be enough. Such blanks can be bought at any building materials store. They are completely ready for assembly - they have edges and are cut into equal parts.

Preparation before starting work

If a shoe rack is made by hand, then metal mesh can be purchased for it. Their standard width can be equal to 46.4; 56.4; 76.4 and also 86.4 centimeters. If there is a need to make a structure of a non-standard size, then the grid can be ordered depending on your wishes, but this approach will cost a little more. If the shelves have the most impressive width that was mentioned above, then the outer dimensions of the shoe rack will be as follows: 120x90x34 cm. A depth of 34 cm will be enough to place medium-sized boots there.

If a shoe rack is made by hand, then the important point is functionality and compactness. To do this, it is recommended to place the shelves at a certain slope, which will be turned inward. In this case, the cabinet will take up a minimum amount of space.

Part preparation

When a shoe rack is made by hand, several elements are prepared. Among them, sidewalls, facades, top cover, back wall and drawers can be distinguished. The last three elements will be needed in a single copy, while the sidewalls and facades will be needed in the amount of 2 pieces. Sidewalls can be made of furniture panels, and facades will look great from MDF or chipboard. The back wall can be formed from hardboard.

If a shoe rack with a seat in the hallway will be made, then one should not forget about the presence of fasteners.

Preparation of fittings and fasteners

The master will have to purchase 8 confirmations, 4x16 self-tapping screws, facade handles and dowels, furniture steel corners, 4 hinges and a drill, as well as a hammer and a screwdriver.

Carrying out assembly

With the help of confirmations, you need to fix the sides on the sidewall. To do this, under the fasteners you need to make through holes, the diameter of which will be 8 millimeters. The drawers in the end parts should have small holes, the depth of which will be 60 millimeters. All holes must match as closely as possible. Half of the corners should be screwed to the top cover, while the remaining 4 are used instead of wall fasteners. They need to be installed on the sides.

If you will be making a shoe rack with a seat in the hallway, then all the elements are pulled together with self-tapping screws. Before fixing the hardboard, you need to check how even the box will be, its diagonals should be equal to each other. On the vertical sides of the facades, you need to measure 15 cm from the bottom and top. Whereas 2.2 cm should be retreated deep. At the marked points, holes with a diameter of 3.5 cm must be made. At the next stage, doors are installed and fastened, and the handle is also fixed.

Such a shoe rack, the drawings of which you can draw up yourself, is installed on the floor or suspended at a certain height from the surface. This will allow wet cleaning under the new piece of furniture. The distance between the second and lower shelves should be 35 cm, which will allow you to place boots there.

Making compact shoes

If your hallway does not have too much space, you can make a compact shoe rack model. Any master is able to cope with these works. First of all, prepare long shoe brushes, special plywood, self-tapping screws, spikes, wood glue, moisture-resistant varnish, acrylic paint and a brush.

Work technology

A shoe rack, the size of which you can choose depending on the number of family members, must be made according to a certain method. It involves the use of brushes at the first stage. 6 holes should be drilled in the edge of the plywood, into which the spikes, pre-treated with glue, are installed. Identical holes are made in plywood, which will subsequently allow the elements to be smeared and connected to each other. For reliability, the workpieces are tightened with clamps.

This design will also have side elements that are installed in the same way. With the help, you should saw off the handles of the brushes, if any. Drill two holes in each of them and screw the workpieces with short self-tapping screws to the base. Brushes will prevent damage to shoes during the operation of your homemade design. It is recommended to place the shoe rack with some slope in relation to the vertical surface. This will allow the shoes to stay on the shelves and not fall out.

Conclusion

A metal shoe rack is considered not very practical, since, for example, patent leather shoes in it can be accidentally damaged. However, it is still possible to make it, for this you should use new ones that are installed in several rows using metal corners or wooden slats. The last elements are recommended to be painted in the color of the dryer. A self-made shoe rack is not only a useful piece of furniture. It can be an excellent interior decor for your hallway - it all depends on the imagination of the master and the desire to create.
