Original and functional: how to make a wooden table with your own hands. How to make a practical table from ordinary boards without being a "wooden craftsman" Do-it-yourself country table made of wood

There is not a single home craftsman who would not want to assemble a wooden table with his own hands, and this desire does not depend on gender and age. It is important to observe many aspects in order for the result of the work to be of really high quality.

Figure 1. Scheme of a wooden table with legs in the form of crosses.

In the beginning there was a tree

Initially, the type of table is selected, and then the material with which the work will be carried out. Tables are different (Fig. 1,2 and 3), and in each case different materials are used.

Chipboard among all the cheapest and easiest to work, therefore enjoys the highest popularity. The thickness usually borders 1.5-3 cm, the color scheme is limited only by fantasy, and the density depends on preferences. But chipboard also has its drawbacks: low strength characteristics, all colors of artificial origin (even if desired, you cannot style it as original wood), as well as harmful chemical emissions from non-laminated places.

The array, in turn, is the least popular because of the high cost. In this case, the work is quick and easy, because. the cut just needs to be shaped to get a countertop, after which it can be mounted, and shapes can be from simple to the most intricate.

Figure 2. Diagram of a coffee table.

Edged board and timber are the main elements that are present in most cases as a supporting structure, but sometimes they are used as the main material, which makes the work much more difficult, but the result is much more interesting.

It is a table made of boards and timber that will be considered as an example, because. Starting with the complex, you can easily learn to do the simple.

Working activity

Tools and materials:

  • jigsaw;
  • grinder;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • beam;
  • bar;
  • edged board;
  • rail;
  • steel corners;
  • furniture plugs;
  • stain and varnish;
  • the brush is flat.

Initially, you need to decide on the dimensions of the future table, and only after that proceed with sawing. Let the table have the standard 110 cm height, 90 cm width and 150 cm length, although any of the given data can be changed depending on desire. And after an accurate definition, you can start cutting:

  • timber 75 * 75 mm - 4 pcs. 105 cm;
  • bar 45 * 80 mm - 2 pcs. 75 cm and 2 pcs. 135 cm;
  • edged board 50 * 150 mm - 6 pcs. 135 cm and 1 pc. 90 cm;
  • wooden lath 10 * 40 mm - 5 pcs. 145 and 2 pcs. 85 cm.

After the cut is completed, you need to carefully grind each work item with a grinder or sandpaper, and collect all the remaining dust with a barely damp sponge. From above, the wood is covered with an antiseptic solution from moisture and insects, and only after complete drying can work be continued.

Figure 3. Scheme of the assembly of the round table.

To begin with, a supporting structure is formed from bars and bars. To connect them, the bars will have to be rounded at the ends by 2.5 cm, and at the very top of the bar, make round holes with the corresponding diameter to a depth of 2.5 cm. a few drops).

The tabletop is made much more difficult, because. first you need to cut a 90 cm board in half lengthwise exactly. Between the resulting 2 cuts, all the rest are laid in turn. The result is a formed tabletop, but not yet linked.

6 wide holes are made in the front and back boards to a depth of 2.5-3 cm, and all holes should be located exactly in the center of those boards that are on the other side. After that, full-fledged holes are made with a thin drill to the depth of the screw, and if this is not done, then with a high probability it will be possible to split the wood.

Galvanized screws are used for coupling, because they are not subject to rust, and for wood this is very important. A rail is screwed from below to all joints, and the fixation is carried out in a checkerboard pattern with a step of 20 cm for the longitudinal ones, and in pairs on each board for the transverse ones. Thanks to this tabletop, nothing is scary anymore.

At the very end, it remains only to combine the legs and the tabletop into 1 design, for which dowels and steel furniture corners are used. At the junction on the dowels, you will again have to use glue, after which for 5-6 hours press down the table with a load of 20-30 kg, so that everything is fixed in this position. The corners, in turn, will play the role of a control fixation.

At the very end, caps of the color of interest are put on the heads of all visible screws.

Completion and additional aspects

After you managed to assemble the table with your own hands, it must be completely varnished and stained. What is especially important in this case is the ability to give the appearance of any breed. The varnish dries for 30-36 hours, so after coating, you need to leave the finished work for this time. Often misleading is the fact that after 4-5 hours there is no smell anymore, and the fingers completely stop sticking, but at the same time, harmful chemical compounds still continue to be released into the environment.

To form holes of large diameter, special drill bits and drill bits are used, and they allow not only to form an internal contour, but also to cut out an external one.

Before you make a wooden table, you need to set aside 1-2 free days for the whole process, because. interruption would be very inopportune. Sometimes errors and shortcomings occur during work, but this is within the normal range, so you need to have a stock of all materials of 10-15%.

In total, with a stuffed hand, the table is made in 1 day, after which it dries, and you can start using it.

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the table, both in terms of domestic comfort and any interior design of an apartment or cottage. Moreover, a kitchen without a table loses its functionality, so the table is deservedly considered a necessary piece of furniture for this room. A huge selection of different models of tables that can be purchased in furniture stores does not detract from the desire of some of us to make a table from the boards with our own hands - according to our own project, with the personality and charm of a valuable handmade item.

The fact that you can choose any model, the shape of the tabletop and dimensions, as long as they are comfortable and suitable for the room in which the table will be installed, gives a special charm to the prospect of making a table with your own hands from the boards.

A few examples below will help you make your choice and help in the manufacture of the model that suits you. In addition, drawings on how to make a simple table from boards will help to more clearly present the future design and assembly processes.

Table 1. Sturdy and stable dining table for home

To make this table, we need tools such as a jigsaw, an electric drill, a screwdriver, a grinder. You can, of course, do without some of the above "helpers" by using a screwdriver and a bar with sandpaper fixed on it - just such a replacement will cause an increase in time and effort spent on making the table.

The material for the manufacture of the countertop is a grooved board, at least 30 mm thick. The tongue provides a tight connection of the boards, increasing the life of the table, since with this method of docking, the likelihood of food residues getting into the gaps between the boards is practically eliminated.

For the manufacture of the remaining elements of the table, an ordinary 50 mm board is taken.

  1. Boards, if they are not processed, must be thoroughly sanded - in addition to aesthetic considerations, this is required by elementary safety and practicality: a sanded board is easier to paint, and much less paint is required for such a surface;
  2. Cut out the details of the table:
  • Tongue-and-groove boards for countertops, 230 cm long - 6 pcs.;
  • Spacer board about 170 cm long;
  • Bars for fastening the tabletop (their length must match the width of the tabletop, or be slightly less) - 4 pcs.;
  • Bars for legs - 4 pcs., 2 pieces of board for their base.
  • Coat all parts with a layer of varnish and allow them to dry;
  • Tightly connect the tabletop boards to each other (Fig. 1);
  • Across the boards, attach 4 bars with self-tapping screws, placing them evenly along the entire length of the countertop and stepping back from its end by 20-30 cm (Fig. 2);
  • To improve the appearance of the product, saw the ends of the fastening bars at an angle of 45 degrees, carefully cut the tongues of the outer boards, and slightly round the corners of the table top with a jigsaw.

  • Using a template and a jigsaw, give the legs the same configuration as shown in the figure below;
  • Reliable fastening of the legs is carried out in three stages: first, we attach the legs to the extreme transverse bars connecting the boards of the tabletop; then we connect the legs with the spacer beam (Fig. 3). We finally fix the legs from above, through the countertop;
  • We impose the base boards on the lower parts of the legs and securely fasten them (Fig. 4);
  • It remains to cover all parts of the table with another layer of varnish and let it dry thoroughly.
  • Table 2. The simplest table for a summer house or gazebo

    Perhaps there is nothing easier than making this version of the table from the boards with your own hands, shown in photo 5. Table dimensions: 1200x740 mm, height - 750 mm.

    For its manufacture you will need:

    • Edged board, smoothly planed 40x140 mm;
    • 2 bars 40x60x740 mm;
    • 8 confirmations 70-75 mm long; self-tapping screws of various lengths;
    • Chisel and planer;
    • Electric jigsaw, drill with a special drill for konfipmatov, furniture key, grinder.

    The first step is to assemble the countertop by fastening the boards with two transverse bars, placing them at a distance of 120 mm from both ends of the future countertop and using self-tapping screws, up to 80-85 mm long (so as not to reach the outer surface of the countertop). If ordinary boards are used, in the manufacture of countertops it is better to leave small, only 10 mm, gaps of the same width between them: through slots will prevent contamination of the countertop with food debris, without interfering with cleaning and without reducing its aesthetic appeal.

    To achieve the same width gaps in the countertop, it is necessary during its assembly to lay a centimeter standard made of lath or other solid material between the boards.

    Second step: assembling the table legs. On a sheet of chipboard or plywood, we draw a template - a rectangle with sides of 600mm (width) and 690mm (length). First, we make one pair of legs, then the second one in the same way: we lay 2 boards on the template in an X-shape, mark the lines of the upper and lower cuts of the legs, as well as the lines of their intersection - in this place the boards will be fastened together. We saw off the ends of the boards along the marked lines, and at the intersections with a chisel we select recesses 20 mm deep to connect "in half a tree". We fasten the legs with 35 mm self-tapping screws;

    Third step- final assembly of the table. The drawing shows in detail how to make this simple table from the boards: thanks to him, the assembly process will not cause difficulties (Figure 6).

    A do-it-yourself kitchen table is both an opportunity to save money and a way to provide the kitchen with unique furniture that fits perfectly into the available space. However, it is important to correctly determine the dimensions and shape of the future structure.

    How to make a wooden dining table

    A table made of solid wood is beautiful, natural and, as a rule, expensive. But buying such a table is not necessary, because you can make it yourself with no less quality and for much less money.

    So, to make a dining table with your own hands, you will need:

    1. 4 things. baluster legs for the table, 73 cm high and not too thin;
    2. For the tabletop: 4 dry edged wooden boards 1 m long (for a table 60 cm wide);

    1. For the frame: 2 boards 80 cm long and 2 boards 40 cm long.

    Prepare tools: planer, grinder or grinder, jigsaw for cutting boards, circular saw, drill (with 8 mm drill), screwdriver, sandpaper, self-tapping screws (30 mm), wood glue, dowels, clamps (preferably). And, of course, a pencil, tape measure, gloves and goggles will come in handy.

    To finish the table, you will need varnish, stain or paint along with a primer. Let's make the table first. To do this, you need to fit all 4 boards as accurately as possible to the same length - 100 cm. If your boards were not sawn at the sawmill, then they also need to be trimmed in width and thickness. Then they need to be carefully polished with a planer. The better you sand the wood, the smoother the countertop will be. Work the edges well so that the boards fit as tightly as possible to each other.

    We will connect the boards not with screws and nails, but with glue and dowels (chops). To do this, we make the same marks on the edges of all boards in increments of 10-15 cm and drill holes for the dowels with an 8 mm drill. Then we sand the edges and apply wood glue to them and into the holes made. Now we drive the chopsticks processed with the same glue into the holes and connect all 4 bars in turn. We remove excess glue on the surface with sandpaper and grind it, as well as all edges with a planer. At this stage, you can go over the countertop with a metal sponge to give the wood texture.

    So, the tabletop is ready. Now you need to fasten the legs and make a base for it.

    To do this, you need to evenly fasten the balusters with short transverse boards with glue and screws. The glue dries for at least 12 hours.

    We fasten the legs to the long crossbars and drill holes in them in order to install the countertop later.

    After the glue in the frame dries, you can proceed to install the countertop on it (frame).

    If you want to make the table longer and wider, then you need to strengthen the table with two additional cross bars, as shown in the photo.

    So, the table is almost ready, it remains only to treat it with varnish or stain or paint it, having previously primed it.

    What color to paint the table? Start from personal preferences and the color of the rest of the furniture. Below is the most versatile option - the table top and legs are stained.

    You can see the main mistakes of staining a tree with your own hands in this video.

    If you like gloss, then the surface of the table can be stained, and varnished on top (example in the photo below), or simply varnished.

    You can paint the legs white, and stain the countertop to get a design like in the next photo.

    How to make a kitchen table from chipboard

    A do-it-yourself kitchen table made of laminated chipboard is a practical and budget solution. Such countertops are covered with decorative plastic, which is resistant to abrasion. In a typical version, the dimensions of the tabletop canvas are 3000x600x36 (26) mm, but today it will not be difficult to purchase a chipboard sheet sawn to the desired dimensions or negotiate in a furniture workshop to sell a suitable trim.

    You will also need:

    • Connecting and end strips;
    • end edges;
    • Ties.

    Even if you get a countertop of the right size, you will need to additionally process the ends - this will make the result more attractive, as well as ensure that the base is protected from moisture. For these purposes, you can use a special furniture edging based on polyvinyl chloride or glue an edge tape. The edging option is considered more practical for a dining table and suitable for home craftsmen.

    For the kitchen table, you will also need appropriate supports - you can buy the legs separately or give preference to the finished base. It all depends on which option your drawings provide. The most common option is round legs D = 60 mm and 71 cm high. They can be collapsible, adjustable in height, and also differ in design - matte, painted, shiny.

    In our case, these will be shiny chrome-plated legs-rods with a diameter of 60 mm, as well as a tabletop made of white chipboard 36 mm thick and a white plastic mortise T-shaped edging with girths is matched to it.

    So, how to make a dining table with a chipboard top:

    1. The marking is applied to the material according to the drawing. Rounding corners must have a radius of 60 mm or more.

    1. The tabletop is shaped with a jigsaw.

    A saw with reversible teeth should be used, otherwise the plastic coating may be chipped. First, the corner of the chipboard is cut with a jigsaw with a margin of 2 mm, and then it is finally rounded off with a grinder.

    1. A groove for furniture edging is milled.

    1. The edging is stuffed. Before this, the ends of the product must be covered with silicone sealant. The sealant is laid both in the edging and on the top side of the countertop. A rubber mallet is used to stuff the piping. Then the excess sealant is removed.

    1. The legs are attached. To do this, markings are made with a pencil on the back of the tabletop. In most cases, the legs are placed 100 mm from the edge.

    To fasten the holders, self-tapping screws with a countersunk head about 20 mm long are used. After that, the legs are put on the holders and fixed with a hex key - that's it, your new table is ready.

    How to correctly determine the dimensions

    According to the principles described above, tables can be made larger or smaller in length and width. How to choose the best size for your family?

    If we are talking about a standard kitchen with dimensions from 6 to 8 squares, then the drawings will show a typical design with a height of 750 mm and a perimeter of 800 * 500 ... 1200 * 600 mm.

    A do-it-yourself dining table should be calculated for a certain number of people. Usually it corresponds to the number of residents - 3-9, but a couple of free places are still added for guests. For large companies, a good solution will be.

    Calculations are carried out as follows: the number of persons is multiplied by 60 (“working” perimeter per person). As for the width of the countertop, here we follow the recommendations of experts - its optimal values are from 800 to 1100 mm. Narrow tables are difficult to serve, and wide tables are uncomfortable for those sitting.

    If you decide to make the kitchen table oval (round) with your own hands, then you will have to calculate the circumference - diameter * 3.14.

    Form Selection Rules

    The shape of the kitchen table plays a significant role in the perception of space. Universal design - a rectangle or square with right angles. It is balanced and can be installed close to the wall or in the center of the room, saving space.

    Oval models are also quite comfortable and beautiful, but they do not differ in large capacity - the most dimensional product will accommodate no more than 8 people. In addition, they require large areas - more than 8 square meters. meters, because you can’t put them against the wall.

    It can also be called a universal and traditional option, suitable for both very and large kitchens. But it has less capacity than a rectangular table.

    The best option is a rectangular table with rounded corners. How to make such a table from chipboard with your own hands, we have already described above.

    Furniture care rules

    After the dining table is made, you will need to take care of the long service life of the product.

    So, furniture made of wood, polished and lacquered, needs careful care, as it can be easily scratched. In addition, traces of contact with hot are possible here. A universal polishing composition is selected as a basic wood care.

    If we are talking about a countertop made of MDF or chipboard with a plastic coating, then caring for it is not difficult and consists in regular washing with detergents.

    Do not forget that kitchen furniture must be moved away from heaters and from walls bordering the street. Direct sunlight will also be harmful to wooden furniture.

    The interior of any home will be decorated with crafts made with your own hands. Not the most difficult option for individual creativity is a home table made of wood. Designing your own is easy. Here the flight of fancy is unlimited, but you need to start with the choice of design, purpose and design features that you plan to implement. At the very beginning, you need to create drawings and drawings, according to which it will be possible to assemble the finished table.

    Drawings and diagrams

    Initially, work out each element in detail, especially decorative additions if they are planned. This is just the case when embellishment will not be superfluous. It is best to draw a drawing according to actual dimensions, choosing the appropriate scale on paper.

    The type of the table can be the most diverse, from the usual written to the children's massage. It is also possible to make a table with your own hands for a bath. One of the easiest to make is a corner table.

    It is not so difficult to create a small transformer or a table-book. It takes up little space in the room and is functional in many situations. The sliding design will help save some space. For home construction, a carpentry table is very suitable. And, of course, a table on the veranda, where you can gather with the whole family for an evening tea party.

    Decor

    Decorating will greatly improve the appearance. Almost any table design will be decorated with carved legs, especially if you decide to implement a project in a rustic style. The addition of the countertop decor with LED lighting will look elegant. A luminous table in the corner of the living room will add warmth on a cold winter night. There can be an infinite number of options, but the main thing is not to overdo it and not go too far with decorations.

    Style and design

    There are no restrictions and strict limits for your own creativity. The easiest way to make an original thing is to perform it in an "antique" style. This is the most common and not too difficult craft to perform. Imitation of antiquity will decorate almost any interior.

    The design of a homemade table, ideally, should organically fit into the interior of the room in which it is planned to be used. Various forms and artistic solutions are possible. Wood products allow you to experiment with geometry.

    How to make an unusual table, see the following video.

    The form

    Such a table can have different angles and will not lose functionality at all. For each side of this design, you can assign permanent places for family members. The smaller sides are for children. The larger sides are for adults.

    Material

    The tree is convenient to use in any condition. The secondary use of wooden structures is also quite suitable. It is very good to use old boards. Many breeds only get better with time.

    It is no secret that a floor made of valuable species that has served a century is sometimes used to make musical instruments. When reusing, be sure to remove the top layer, which will give the final product a neater look. Products made from such material, without exaggeration, will last forever.

    Combination of dissimilar materials

    Combinations of wood and metal look original. The massive plane of the table will be decorated with iron, and ideally, cast-iron legs. The combination of oak and cast iron will achieve an excellent result. Heavy cast iron pairs perfectly with oak or ash.

    The combination of solid African rocks and metal structures will be unique. The result will amaze anyone, even the most demanding connoisseur.

    Glass and wood are the perfect match

    An elegant wooden stand will be the best decoration for a glass table. Modern fastening devices will ensure a reliable articulation of these materials. The round shape of the final product with this combination is the most optimal solution.

    You can combine different materials

    It is quite possible to install a wooden or glass coffee table top on a lightweight concrete base. Quite a modern solution that will add a light industrial touch to the interior design. The combination of glass and concrete, as well as pine additions, will look great.

    How can natural stone be used?

    Quite an elegant combination, if everything is done in moderation. Do not overload the table structure with too heavy elements. Try to find a suitable base made of natural stone. The design of the wooden top will be prompted by the stone itself. Put a massive wooden surface on it and you will get a table that no one else has.

    Beautiful examples and options

    With your own hands it is quite possible to make very beautiful, original things that will look no worse than those of famous masters. Homemade items will always be your pride and topic of discussion among friends.

    What can you make yourself?

    Almost any table is within the power of each of us. This simple household item does not require special knowledge and special professional skills. We start making wood products at school, at labor lessons. Therefore, the simple wooden design of the laptop table will be quite on the shoulder. Both chairs and a bench for a country house can also be made independently.

    You can come up with your own design of home crafts. The folding table will not constantly occupy living space. It can combine several functions. From baby changing station to work surface for home crafts.

    A wide field for creativity will give a combination of wood and other materials. Don't be afraid to experiment. Combine dissimilar objects together, and you will achieve amazing results. Even if you decide to combine rarely combined elements, do not be afraid to try. Any ideas can be realized.

    How to make a table?

    Home design should start with a small coffee table. The design can be quite simple. The work surface can be purchased at the hardware supermarket.

    Glued pine is best. The glued array is less prone to deformation with changes in humidity and temperature changes. It is most convenient to pick up legs for your crafts in the same place.

    Desk

    It is better to assemble it from ready-made wooden panels - it is quite a reasonable start to home needlework. Ready-made elements or entire blocks are easiest to order with delivery on a site that sells components for such work. Here you can find all the necessary accessories. It remains only to spend a little time on the assembly. Additional processing and fitting will not become too complicated, the main thing is that you will get the necessary experience for further creativity.

    Table for the kitchen

    It's not that hard to make your own kitchen utensils. You can start with a small pine kitchen table. Legs are easiest to buy ready-made, pine is the most budget option. The working surface is easier to choose according to the planned dimensions. It remains only, in the literal sense, to put the table on its feet.

    Kitchen set

    Everyone can assemble a set of kitchen furniture according to their own drawings. You need some skills to install opening doors, but this simple science can be comprehended by watching a few videos on the Internet.

    Required Tools

    You can start with a small set. A hammer, planer, chisel, wood saw, nails and screws can be found in every home. You will also need a ruler and a pencil. If it is possible to purchase an additional power tool, be sure to do so.

    An electric planer in the house or a jigsaw will come in handy for the following crafts. Such a tool must be of good quality. It will last for many years, even if you do not use it every day.

    Special tool

    To achieve high quality, it is better to use special equipment with an electric drive. Acquisition costs will not be significant, and you will have the opportunity to move on to more complex projects in the future.

    What can be purchased in addition to an existing electric drill:

      electric jigsaw - will allow you to make a high-quality cut of any materials;

      electric planer - will make the surface of the tree perfectly flat;

      circular saw - will provide a longitudinal or transverse cut of industrial quality;

      a mechanical device for milling work - will process the edges of your craft with an intricate pattern and help you cut decorative elements on a wooden surface;

      sanding machine - makes finishing a wooden surface a simple and pleasant experience that does not require much effort.

    It is best to purchase a combined power tool that combines several different functions in one device. This will reduce costs and allow many design ideas to be realized. By the way, a home electric drill can be supplemented with various attachments, which will expand its capabilities.

    Accessories

    If you decide to make a trip to the needlework store, stock up on everything you need right away. For your craft, you will need additional components to securely fasten the wooden parts. The simplest steel corners will make the design more reliable in operation. Do not skimp on additional decorative elements. They will not be superfluous, but only decorate the appearance.

    Ready-made kits that can be purchased at the store will add more elegance to wooden crafts. A homemade desk for a child will look very nice if you use metal legs from any ready-made furniture set. It is easy to make a bedside table for him from the same standard kits. Handles and accessories can be picked up in the same store.

    Fastening of wooden structures

    The ancient technology of wood joining without iron nails and glue is almost lost. But it won't hurt to try. Adjust all wooden joints with minimal gaps, drill holes in the joints with a diameter of six to eight millimeters and hammer a dried wooden spike into it.

    If all wooden parts are excessively dried before assembly, then over time they will gain the required amount of moisture and increase their size. The connection will become strong enough, and the swollen wooden spike will give additional strength.

    Traditional mounting options

    The easiest and most reliable option is to drive a screw into a tree. Now they make special self-tapping screws for wood joints, which, unlike a conventional screw, do not require an exact hole for screwing in. If the thickness of the connection is not very large, then additional holes can be dispensed with. The wood screw will do everything by itself, especially if you use an electric screwdriver. Such a connection will last a long time without glue.

    Why is glue needed?

    To give a wooden structure additional strength, it is best to glue the articulating surfaces. A little glue is needed, but the result will be excellent when combined with self-tapping screws or nails, the glued wooden joint will remain strong for many years. Glue is best used on a water basis. There are many varieties of reliable wood glue.

    How to make an original home table?

    It is not so difficult to create crafts of your own design. The material is found in any forest.

    A unique craft will come out of an array of wood. But this will take a little effort. The ideal option is the base of a large tree, the diameter of which is more than eighty centimeters in circumference. If you manage to use part of the root system, then a reliable base for the table will come out and additional legs will not be needed.

    You need to understand that it will not be easy to deliver such a blank from the forest, but the result will pay off all the work, such a table cannot be compared with anything.

    Table for summer cottage

    A street table for a suburban area certainly needs to be done by yourself. The ideal material is the same log brought from the forest. The base is conveniently made from birch logs of small diameter. They need to be dug into the ground about fifty centimeters.

    Then align their upper parts by sawing off the excess wood. The working surface can be made from a log of large transverse diameter by sawing it longitudinally. The flat part will just be the surface of the street table.

    All outdoor additional buildings are best made of wood. This natural natural material perfectly tolerates moisture, heat, and frost. It is also better to make a bench for a summer cottage yourself from the same wooden components. A homemade bench will look organically near your handmade table.

    Why is it better to use an array tree?

    The structure of the tree is such that its durability directly depends on how intact its integrity is. Therefore, since ancient times, solid logs have been used to build houses. With minimal processing, when the whole structure is preserved as much as possible, wooden structures can last for hundreds of years without collapsing or changing their shape.

    What can be made from solid wood?

    For starters, you need to be patient. Cutting down a tree and delivering it to the house is not the most difficult task. It is important to properly prepare the material for subsequent processing.

    Preparation of a wooden blank

    Be sure to rid the tree of excess moisture. If it is not possible to agree to do this at a woodworking enterprise where there is special drying equipment, then it is quite possible to do the drying at home.

    Logging is usually done in the spring, when the trunk has not begun to absorb moisture from the soil, that is, before the thaw. Usually it is March. Drying naturally lasts from several months to a year, depending on the type of wood.

    Why is it important to use only dry material?

    Raw wood will definitely crack as soon as the bark is removed, unless, of course, this is planned by your design idea. Some breeds greatly change shape when dried improperly.

    Dry wood should be well cleaned and sanded, a light layer of texture varnish or stain will not interfere to give more texture to the product. If the diameter of the circle is large enough, and part of the root system has become a reliable support, then the table is almost ready. The upper part must be well sanded and varnished. Here is the perfect design for a laptop.

    Dimensions

    If you want to make a large dining table from a solid log, you will have to work a little and make a longitudinal cut in the middle of the trunk with a chainsaw. You will get two almost identical halves. If the width of one part is a meter or more, and the length is at least one and a half meters, then there is already a base for the dining table. You can leave the bottom semi-circular or even out by cutting off the semi-circular bottom.

    It remains to build reliable legs and process the surface of the table in any convenient way. It is not necessary to make the table absolutely even, especially if precious woods were used. Moderate irregularities will give the craft an additional charm.

    How to use the second half of the log?

    A little extra effort, and - a strong bench for the table is ready. If the width of the log is of sufficient size, then two strong benches can be obtained on both sides of the table. It is best to rigidly connect them into a common structure, or make two separate strong seats for several people. The bench, of course, will have to be leveled and all irregularities removed. Ideally, sand well and varnish or stain.

    Colors

    Do not be too zealous in painting wooden products. If you decide to enhance the natural color, then coffee tones are best suited for any breed. It is best to use water-based varnishes and paints. They are less toxic and interact well with wood.

    It is perfectly acceptable to use undyed materials with natural colors. Cast iron without additional coating and wood of natural color will become an original decorative solution that does not require additional color shades.

    Very well combined raw aluminum and dark woods. Natural silver color and dark oak texture look very original. Elements with natural colors are well suited for additional decoration.

    But iron components, unless, of course, it is stainless steel, in any case, you need to paint. Even if your table with iron legs will always be indoors, the metal must be coated with any coloring compound. Iron corrodes even in dry and warm rooms and requires painting work.

    Wood coloring

    When using planed wood products outdoors, painting is required, not only for decorative purposes. A good coating will protect the wood and prolong its life. In this case, special compositions for outdoor work are used. The color scheme can be any. The most acceptable are all the same dark coffee shades.

    Useful little things

    • The wisest thing is not to rush. Any work requires thoughtfulness and accuracy of execution. Don't set any deadlines for yourself. Do work when you feel like it.
    • If something does not work out, put the craft aside and return to it after a while. Such work will only be a joy, and you will achieve a good result.
    • Do not take on a complex project right away, start with simple work. You need to gain some experience for subsequent more complex crafts. Using power tools will make your job easier. Be sure to follow all safety precautions when working with any tool used for woodworking.

    • Even a small splinter can become a problem if you do not pay attention to it at the time. Follow the safety regulations. Always wear goggles when working with wood products, especially if machining is involved.
    • If you have little experience, but there is a desire to make at least a wooden table in your own house with your own hands, start by going to a building materials supermarket. There you will find everything you need for individual creativity. Design decisions will be prompted by the materials themselves.
    • To begin with, use wooden blanks that require minimal post-processing.
    • Carry out all work in a spacious room. A small workshop in the country is ideal. Painting should be carried out in a well ventilated area, even if low toxicity products are used. Observe all necessary drying times for glued and painted parts.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Handmade crafts do not always look perfect. But don't get upset about it. Minor flaws will be compensated by absolute satisfaction from the work done by oneself. Such disadvantages can be attributed rather to advantages. An industrial product will not keep your hands warm.

    Wood is the most traditional material from which a table can be made. Moreover, both high-quality raw materials and various boards, trimmings, cuts, even stumps are suitable for work. A little imagination, work, and with your own hands turn flaws into virtues. After all, tables can be very different: for home, summer cottage, garden, magazine, large dining, very tiny - for the gazebo, others. Drawings, diagrams, photos, detailed descriptions will make it easy to handle.

    Place for family lunch

    It is not necessary to spend a lot of money to do something necessary, useful. If there are boards, slats of different sizes from previous works, you can try to make a decent dining table or a small decorative table out of them with your own hands. They will find a place in the country, in a city apartment.

    Materials and tools for making a dining table

    • 9 boards or bars made of poplar wood 0.35x0.35x90 cm;
    • a piece of plywood 20 mm thick with parameters 140x260 cm;
    • 2 poplar boards 1.8x3.5x250 cm;
    • 4 beams of 70 cm (table legs);
    • 3 beams of 90 cm (fractional parts of the frame);
    • 4 beams of 45 cm each (transverse frame parts);
    • cuttings of 20 mm boards of different parameters and plywood of the same density;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • nails;
    • glue;
    • stain (optional), furniture varnish.

    This list can be adjusted depending on what you have.

    You should also prepare:

    • table circular saw;
    • miter saw;
    • electric drill;
    • device for countersunk screwing;
    • machine for grinding wooden surfaces;
    • roulette, square;
    • pencil.

    The drawings simply and clearly show how the parts are connected. Please review the image carefully.

    In the country house or in the garden you can not do without special furniture. It should be simple, reliable, sustainable. When making a table of boards with your own hands, do not forget to leave free space between the parts that form the table top. This will allow outdoor furniture to serve you longer - water during rain will not collect and stagnate on the surface, but will quickly drain.

    Get ready for work

    You should prepare materials and tools:

    • 2 boards of 85x10x2.5 cm;
    • 4 boards of 168x10x2.5 cm;
    • 17 boards of 95x10x2.5 cm;
    • 2 boards of 1530x10x2.5 cm;
    • 4 boards of 75x10x2.5 cm;
    • screws, bolts, nails;
    • glue for wood;
    • level, tape measure;
    • screwdriver or drill;
    • saw;
    • protective gloves, goggles;
    • pencil;
    • stain, paint.

    Consider the proposed drawings, the manufacturing sequence, the methods of fastening the elements of a wooden table.

    1. The table will be assembled by hand after you screw the legs to it. This can be done with self-tapping screws.
    2. Finishing is done at the discretion of the master. Processing the finished product with stain, varnish, paint will make the wood more resistant to destructive external factors: sun, rain, wind, etc.

    A small but very original table will not leave indifferent either the owners or their guests. During the day it will become a place for a cozy feast, and in the evening it will amaze with a bizarre glow. To make it, you will not need complex drawings, but only an original idea and desire.

    What do you need?

    • 3 boards with cracks of swamp cypress (or any other wood similar in texture);
    • finished metal legs for the table;
    • epoxy resin;
    • photoluminescent paint or dry powder;
    • polyurethane paint;
    • adhesive tape;
    • wood glue;
    • grinding machine;
    • glazing beads;
    • clamps;
    • wood glue.

    A new, hand-made table will delight you with its exotic beauty.
