Processing and cutting material

Cedar facade boards of fiber cement type are extremely easy to saw, mill and drill. Fiber cement siding is a cladding material for the exterior of buildings. There are two manufacturing technologies for fiber cement cladding - autoclave curing and natural maturation.

Autoclave curing

The main composition of the raw materials is cement, quartz sand, natural fiber (cellulose fiber) and water. The mixture is formed in special drums, and excess moisture is removed under pressure. After that, the blanks are sent to the autoclave, where hardening occurs under the action of hot steam and high pressure. Also, the production cycle includes coloring, due to which the original gray range is diluted with a mass of different shades. Due to heat treatment, the production time of the material is significantly reduced.

This type of fiber cement differs from the first option not only in the method of manufacture, but also in its composition - it is made from a mixture of cement, synthetic fiber (polyvinyl fiber), lime and water. The technology does not imply temperature effects. After mixing, molding and pressing, the sheets gain grade strength within twenty-eight days, standard for cement mixtures.

Both methods endow the cladding with approximately the same technical parameters - strength, wear resistance, durability, low thermal conductivity and high decorative effect.

The difference is in the resulting texture: during autoclave processing, an imitation of almost any material is obtained, natural maturation gives a rough surface, on which fiber fibers are clearly visible.

Varieties of fiber cement cladding

Manufacturers offer two main types of cladding:

  • Fiber cement siding - long wide boards that look and feel identical to valuable woods. Dimensions depend on the specific manufacturer, there are two types of siding - a flat board, mounted with an overlap, and a board with a chamfer, this groove allows end-to-end installation and imitates a lining, while a flat one resembles a planken.
  • Fiber cement panels are rectangular slabs, most often imitating stone or brick surfaces, but there are also smooth collections that resemble a plastered wall.

According to the scope of application, wall and basement fiber cement cladding is produced. Plinth panels, due to increased operational loads, are thicker and heavier than the wall variety. Regardless of the type of cladding and its purpose, the most common name for this facade material is fiber cement siding.

If we compare metal, vinyl and fiber cement siding, the price of the latter per m2 will be higher due to the raw material component and technology features. Therefore, with all the advantages of a material such as fiber cement, vinyl siding is still more common.

However, fiber cement facade siding is gradually conquering the Russian market, as it surpasses other types of siding in terms of strength and durability. Although some are confused by the frost resistance of the material - an average of 200 cycles, there is no reason to worry. A galvanized steel facade subsystem is needed in order to define two facade planes. There is only one plane on the back wall, respectively, and there is no frame there. A bar 50x50 mm horizontally is screwed along the racks, for an additional layer of insulation, and on the bars - a crate - a board 25x100mm. You still cannot do without a crate - the pitch of the racks does not match the dimensions of the panels, and the air gap is not superfluous at all.

  • Fastening directly to the surface - smooth walls without the need for insulation allow mounting on fasteners directly to the wall. Most often, this type of assembly is used on walls finished with OSB (oriented strand board, aka OSB).
