How to glue a ceiling baguette: a guide to independent work. How to glue baguettes on a stretch ceiling. Joint finishing features. Installation technology Glue baguettes

I have a friend, an excellent scientist and economist, but he cannot drive a nail into the wall. Therefore, I was surprised when, in a telephone conversation, he asked how to glue the baguettes on the ceiling. Vadik is building a country house and periodically helps me and the team to do unskilled work. In the evening, I went to see the state of the interior finishes and to find out the reason for the interest in ceiling moldings.

Preparing walls and ceilings for wallpapering

The workers hired for interior decoration decided to cheat. A kind and somewhat absent-minded customer should not understand the intricacies of their profession. They were wrong. Vadik has an iron character. He loves smooth ceilings and walls, the right angles.

After examining the uneven surfaces without stripping and coating with a primer, I unloaded a tool for gluing baguettes from the car:

  • miter box for cutting skirting boards at an angle;
  • spatulas 7 and 20 centimeters;
  • cord and tracer for beating lines;
  • gun with a bottle of glue for connecting the ends;
  • mounting adhesive for polystyrene products.

It was necessary to start leveling and priming the walls. Otherwise, it will not work to glue the baguette correctly. I putty. Vadik primed and cleaned. In rooms where there is a stretch ceiling, it was first mounted. Tiled in the bathroom and kitchen.

Attention : Baguettes are glued to perfectly flat walls and ceilings, cleaned and coated with a primer.

We glue ceiling plinths for painting with an assistant

With a piece of ceiling plinth, I marked the size on the ceiling and walls. Then, with the help of a friend and a cord, he beat off the lines along which the baguette should lie. We used a simple foam plinth with longitudinal protrusions. It is easy to stick, no need to customize the pattern. We started from the corner. With the help of a miter box, the end was cut off at an angle of 45 O on one strip, then on the other, turning the plinth upside down with the bottom plane. Since the length was not enough for the entire wall, I immediately cut off the second end. The joint is better preserved and does not crack over time if cut obliquely. The bonding plane and deformation resistance increase.

The ceiling baguette is glued on two planes. You can lubricate them with putty, sealant. I prefer mounting adhesive. Styrofoam holds the composition for polystyrene foam products best.

I checked the correctness of the cut on the skirting boards in the corner, putting them dry in place. I applied glue with a spatula on both planes of the baguette. After that, I carefully attached it, focusing on the lines, in order to glue it correctly, and pressed it along the entire length. Then the second. The excess glue that came out was collected with a spatula. I entrusted the assistant to wipe the skirting boards with warm water in order to wash off everything superfluous with a sponge. If it dries out, it will be difficult to clean. On the next strips of the baguette, the ends were smeared with docking glue. The cylinder is loaded into a mounting gun. I applied a little on the foam and immediately removed the excess that came out. A friend with warm water followed me.

The work on sealing the joints is done with a rubber spatula so as not to harm the baseboard.

On the semi-column, I prepared pieces of a baguette with convex corners in advance. Marked the bottom edge. The ceiling plinth turned over, laying on the miter box. I checked that the direction of the cut was correct, the outer side is larger. Then he did everything the same.

The next day, when the baguette stuck and dried, I walked with putty around the corners and joints. I used to do this with a small rubber spatula without a handle. Then he repeated, and completed the processing with acrylic putty. At the outer corners, the foam was more difficult to fit. Every time the solution dried up, Vadik sanded it. A few days later, I instructed a friend to prime everything and started painting.

As a result, the “student” wrote down the order of work in his summary:

  1. Make markings on the walls and ceiling.
  2. Cut the baguette and check the correct angle.
  3. Spread with glue.
  4. Attach along the line and glue.
  5. Wipe with water.
  6. Putty joints and clean.

The bathroom walls are tiled. In order not to smear it, I painted over the ceiling baguette on the front side. Styrofoam cut out, laid on the floor and walked with a brush a few days before gluing. A little paint from this can left no tinting of joints and corners after stripping.

The tile has a hard glossy surface. The plane adjacent to the ceiling and the ends were smeared with mounting glue. On the bottom I applied a thin strip of sealant in the upper part. He did it with a pistol. It is very important that the sealant does not protrude beyond the edge of the baguette. From experience I know that the paint does not stick to it, it is impossible to clean it. To create a smooth transition, I pasted masking tape on the tile, under the very foam. Then I sealed the gap with acrylic white putty and removed the excess with a tile spatula, a corner with a radius of 2 mm.

Wall moldings are glued under stretch ceilings

Do-it-yourself wallpaper with a ceiling plinth

When it came to a room with a stretch ceiling, Vadik was afraid that we would not be able to glue the baguette correctly and not damage the thin film. I explained to him that flat wall moldings are used for this. They are glued only on a vertical plane. You can also mount a ceiling plinth. Then its upper part is tightly pressed against the dry ceiling. Glue is applied only to the bottom plane.

In order not to cut the stretch ceiling film with a knife, I carefully checked the cutting. Styrofoam is lightweight, it can be glued to wallpaper. Polyurethane is denser, has a higher specific gravity. It's not worth the risk. It is necessary to cut off the upper part of the wallpaper along the line marking the edge of the baguette. Then clean the wall and primer. We prepared the rooms ourselves. I decided to glue, first the baseboard, and then the wallpaper. So it is more convenient to putty and clean the ends. The wall covering will not be affected.

We cut the baguettes, checked their joining seven times. Only after that I began to smear the baseboard and glue it to the wall. When marking, I tightly pressed the upper part to the stretch ceiling. Now I laid the trim strips along the line and double-checked the pressure on the film. Removed excess glue immediately. A friend confidently followed me with a sponge and wiped the ceiling baguette.

Before sealing the joints, I asked Vadik to bring newspapers. I put the sheets between the stretch ceiling and the upper plane of the plinth. Secured with pieces of adhesive tape to the film. Remove sticky tape residues properly with window cleaner.

Non-standard options for finishing stretch ceilings with skirting boards

My friend learned quickly and was creative in the process, he was fascinated by gluing a baguette. When we got to the living room, we bought LEDs and a massive ceiling plinth. We needed a wide baguette top. Having marked the line on the wall, we drew another one below. We decided to glue a baguette with a gap under the stretch ceiling. The LEDs were installed in a gap around the entire perimeter. The backlight visually raised the vault.

It is a pity that the rooms in the house are over. We had so many ideas, especially from a friend.

5 ways to perfectly paint the ceiling plinth

Repair is a serious thing, but simple, if the algorithm of actions is clear, the necessary tools are taken and high-quality components are used. Let's try to consider one of the components in the interior decoration - baguettes.

Definition

Baguettes are decorative skirting boards or borders made of polymeric materials, which in the end look like molding, complementing the neatness and aesthetics of the finish. They are usually sold in cuts of 2.5-3 meters, are easily cut with a construction knife and can be applied using:

  • silicone glue;
  • liquid nails;
  • other polymeric adhesive composition.

First, let's look at how to properly glue baguettes on the ceiling and on the walls, and then take a look at why the majority does this procedure differently.

How right?

There are two conflicting opinions. Some believe that baguettes are glued to the ceiling as the final finishing touch, that is, it happens on wallpaper or on walls with other decorative coatings. Others argue that it is right to glue the baguettes first, and then finish the walls. Where is the truth? In fact, both are right, but in different cases.

If the walls are even, prepared, and the angle between the walls, ceiling and walls is 90 degrees, of course, baguettes are glued first, which eventually allow you to evenly adjust the wallpaper or plaster. But if the walls are uneven, the corners are walking and there is no way to fully level them, then, of course, the baguettes are already glued to the wallpaper or decorative finishes.

Therefore, if a categorical opinion is heard about the need to choose one or another method, one should evaluate the specific situation and the ability to prepare the walls. Only then can you take decisive action. A lot also depends on the glue. If there is no alternative, then baguettes can be glued to paper wallpaper with ordinary PVA. However, in other cases, if the wallpaper, for example, is vinyl or non-woven, it is not advisable to glue the baguette on PVA, it simply will not hold.

Materials and tools

Now let's see what equipment is needed in order to glue the baguette with high quality. Let's take a look at which adhesive materials will be the most convenient and practical. So, for work you will need:

  • construction or clerical knife with a replaceable blade;
  • simple pencil;
  • polymer glue or liquid nails;
  • hacksaw;
  • level for determining angles;
  • brush for applying glue;
  • miter box for corners;
  • soap solution;
  • a hard and soft piece of cloth (hard - for degreasing the surface, soft - for wiping the glue).

As for the adhesive, silicone glue, liquid nails or an adhesive like Titanium, Moment would be ideal. In the case of using liquid nails, a construction syringe is required. When applying any adhesive, it is very important to degrease the surface; a soap solution will help in this. If this is not done, after some time the baguette will simply fall behind the walls.

Count

It is also important to correctly calculate the amount of material needed. For example, the length of the baguette is 2.5 m, and the length of the walls is 4 and 3 m. In this case, 3 baguettes will be needed, even taking into account cutting corners. It is considered this way: on a wall of 4 m, you need 1 solid plank and a piece of 1.5 meters. On a wall of 3 meters - 1 solid and a piece of 0.5 m. However, in order to achieve greater symmetry, you can join equal cuts of baguettes in one place. But in this case, the material consumption will be much higher. For example, 2 pieces of 2 meters will go to a wall of 4 meters. This means - 2 baguettes in the same way as on a wall of 3 meters.

Action algorithm

After the tools and materials are prepared, it is necessary to prepare the surface and the baguettes themselves. If liquid nails are used, the application will be done with a syringe, dotted, depending on the width of the baguette.

First you need to decide whether the baguettes will be glued after the walls are finished or before. If before finishing the walls - they must be leveled. Most likely, even the most even walls at first glance will have discrepancies. And if the corners are not processed, sticking will be difficult. Moreover, most likely, one or both edges will lag behind. If you carefully press them down, the material will simply go in waves due to elasticity, which, of course, will affect the accuracy of the finish. If it is not possible to fully align the walls, you must at least align the corners. To do this, you can use special metal corners and putty.

For the convenience of aligning the corners, you must use the level. Be sure to clean and prime the surface before further work.

After everything is prepared, it is necessary to make markup. To do this, the baguette is applied to the wall and marks are made along the outer lines with a simple pencil.

It is desirable to cut the material using a miter box - a tool that allows you to cut at any angle. As a result, this will allow you to cut corners evenly.

It is necessary to apply glue along the edges on both sides. Excess is removed with a soft cloth dipped in soapy water.

You can start gluing from any angle. Usually, as with wallpaper, pasting starts from the window.

It is necessary to pay attention to the joints, especially if there are protruding parts of the wall, columns, etc.

It is enough to hold the baguette after applying to the wall for 10-15 seconds. This time is sufficient for the initial setting of the adhesive.

After the baguettes are glued, you can continue finishing or do other work if the baguettes are glued to the finished walls.

Summary Information

In conclusion, it remains to add that no matter what kind of wallpaper or decoration on the walls, the selection of a baguette depends on the height of the ceilings. If they are at least 2.4 m, and the room is at least 7 "squares", you need to use a baguette at least 5 cm wide. With high ceilings and a large room, over 15 "squares", it is better to use a wide baguette - from 10 cm.

And one more piece of advice. Rush is not allowed in the selection, preparation and use of building materials. It is important to do everything consistently and carefully, then the result will meet the requirements and desires.

Ceiling plinth is an important building element. It serves to design the joint between the wall and the ceiling. With it, you can hide minor flaws in the repair, create a feeling of completeness and integrity of the interior. To properly make repairs with your own hands, it is important to know how to properly glue baguettes on the ceiling.

What are baguettes

Frieze, fillets, baguette - these are all the names of the ceiling plinth. It is used in interior decoration, perfectly combined with various types of wallpaper, polyurethane tiles, paint. When choosing such an element of decor, they are guided by the size of the room. The larger the parameters, the more massive the plinth on the ceiling should be.

In deciding how to glue baguettes on the ceiling, in addition to the shape and size of the products, the material from which they are made matters. The decoration uses wooden, polyurethane, gypsum baguettes, which are attached to the wall or ceiling. Friezes are chosen in accordance with the texture of the ceiling. Skirting boards of the same material are mounted in a corner under a wooden surface. Plastic friezes are attached to the stretch ceiling.

When decorating joints with friezes, it is important to know how to glue baguettes to the ceiling. The choice of liquid composition also depends on the material from which the ceiling plinth is made. When buying friezes, they immediately acquire glue that is suitable for the component composition.

The process of gluing skirting boards to the ceiling

Preparation of tools and surfaces

Manufacturers promise that the baguettes will hide the defects of the walls and ceiling. In practice, a large curvature cannot be hidden. Before gluing the ceiling baguette, it is important to level both surfaces as much as possible. Stretch ceilings are used to mask the main surface with its significant defects. But even in this case, it is necessary to make the walls perfectly even.

Plastered, smoothed surfaces are coated with a primer. This will provide better adhesion of finishing materials to the base. Before gluing the baguettes to the ceiling, the junction and a narrow strip in the upper part are also primed. So the adhesive composition will not be able to quickly absorb and reliably connect the material to the base.

To work with ceiling plinths, tools are stocked:

  • with a sharp knife or saw for trimming extra centimeters, forming corners;
  • putty knife;
  • glue gun;
  • drawing machine.

Sticking a ceiling plinth from the floor will not work. Therefore, you will need a stepladder or any convenient stand. Experienced craftsmen know that you should first mark the surface, beat off the reference line along which the baguette will have to be glued.

Gluing a polyurethane baguette to the ceiling

  • start work from the corners. Take two short pieces of frieze and cut off their edges at 45 degrees. Combine 2 parts with each other. You should get a perfectly even joint. Glue is applied to the edges of both elements and pressed into the corners of the ceiling. It is necessary to lightly press the parts and hold for a few seconds so that the composition adheres to the base;
  • when the work in the corners is completed, you can glue baguettes along the walls of solid products;
  • glue can get on the frieze glued to the ceiling. It is best to remove it immediately with a wet cloth. When it dries, it will become more difficult to do;
  • after the glue has completely dried, the joints and the resulting recesses are puttied with a rubber spatula, lightly cleaned, primed and painted (if necessary).

Attention! Gluing baguettes to the ceiling is a simple task. One person can handle it. However, working together is more reliable and more fun.

Gluing baguettes on a stretch ceiling

Modern apartment renovation involves the use of the latest construction developments and technologies. These include stretch fabrics made of PVC or fabric. When mounted on rails, narrow gaps are formed near the wall. They are masked, covered with plastic friezes. People who make repairs on their own have a problem of how to glue a baguette to a stretch ceiling and not damage the canvas.

To hide the joint between the surfaces and not to spoil the PVC film (fabric), the baguette is mounted on the wall. Glue is applied to the edge, which will be adjacent to the vertical surface. The other is to stay dry and clean. It is pressed as much as possible to the guide holding the PVC film or fabric.

Watch the video to better understand:

When the wall is painted, glue is applied to the baseboard. If it is covered with decorative canvases, the question arises of what to apply the bonding composition to: on a baguette or wallpaper. Masters lean in favor of the first object. There is a reason for this:

  • glue can come out over the edge of the baguette and yellow spots will become noticeable on the wallpaper over time;
  • it is very difficult to paint the baseboard on the wallpaper and not stain them;
  • when cutting wallpaper along the edge of the guide, you can inadvertently damage the stretch fabric.

Sticking baguettes on stretch ceilings has its own characteristics. If you take them into account, you can easily cope with this work.

Installation of baguettes for wallpaper

Now in many apartments you can see the ceilings covered with wallpaper. These are special canvases, usually white with embossed embossing. To frame such surfaces, polyurethane friezes of different widths and thicknesses are used, simple and with an ornamental image. Masters know how to properly glue baguettes on a ceiling covered with wallpaper:

  • friezes are first fixed in the corners. From the ends of each, the edge is cut at an angle of 45 degrees. Combine both edges;
  • glue is applied in a thin layer on both ribs;
  • the plinth is applied to the wall exactly along the line of the ceiling and gently pressed;
  • the glue that has come out of the edge is removed with a cloth;
  • the formed joints are filled with a transparent hermetic composition;
  • after mounting the baguette, the ceiling is painted together with the plinth in one color.

Before gluing the baguettes on the wallpaper, the excess parts of the canvases are cut off. If the edges are crooked, uneven, do not worry. The ceiling plinth will hide all the flaws at the joints of the surfaces.

From the video you will understand even better:

Attention! The masters have a rule: light, flexible friezes are glued on the wallpaper, heavy ones on the wall.

Gluing a baguette is possible before finishing the surfaces with wallpaper. Professionals prefer this particular decoration option. It consists of the following steps:

  • walls and ceiling are carefully leveled, smoothed, primed. If they are covered with drywall, the task is simplified;
  • the ends of the friezes are cut along the miter box;
  • putty or liquid glue is applied to both edges of baguettes;
  • the product is pressed immediately to two surfaces and held for several seconds until the plinth is fixed on them;
  • excess bonding composition is removed with a spatula and a dry cloth;
  • after the glue dries, the gaps and joints between the elements are sealed and the glued baguette is primed along with the wall and ceiling.

If the walls and ceiling are then covered with wallpaper, their edges are cut exactly along the frieze line. In this case, a wide spatula is used, which is inserted into the joint between the surface and the plinth and carried out with a sharp knife exactly along its blade. Then the cut is perfect.

Properly glued ceiling plinth creates a feeling of completeness. The interior takes on a neat presentable appearance.

With the help of a baguette, geometry is emphasized, which can be very diverse.

If earlier the joints between the walls and the ceiling were covered with a panel or a strip of embossed paper, now the curvature smooths out the baguette or baseboard better. It gives the room a unique look, hides some mistakes during repair work. This article will tell you how to glue baguettes, how to cut them and mount them in corners.

Features of use

Sticker. How to attach a baguette

When installing ceiling plinths, there are several of their advantages:

  • Ceiling baguette hides visible defects:
  1. small irregularities;
  2. some roughness;
  3. grade fluctuations.
  • Decorates.
  • Simple and easy to install, no special skills required.
  • The material is lightweight and sometimes flexible.
  • Wide design choice.
  • Affordable price.

Tip: Before gluing, you need to know that different materials are used to make them. Products come in different textures, widths, smooth or patterned. This affects the cost, purpose and application features for different interiors.

For the manufacture of molding, ceiling plinth or frieze, the following are used:

  • Styrofoam.
  • Gypsum.

The most popular products are made of foam and polyurethane. As for plastic products, they are used only for stretch and PVC panel ceilings. Wooden baguettes - with a wooden structure device.

What glue is used for mounting

Before gluing ceiling moldings, you need to think about the adhesive composition. For each master, during installation, there is a glue that has been tested in the work.

He can be:

  • Polymeric. Such a composition has a weak adhesion. In order to glue a foam baguette with polymer glue, it will need to be held in the required position for a sufficiently long time, which is not very convenient for a two-meter product.
  • Acrylic.
  • Based on silicone.

Acrylic and silicone adhesives allow you to quickly and conveniently mount the ceiling plinth. They go on sale in tubes for a pistol. The composition is applied quite easily, and the diameter of the outlet nozzle controls its consumption.

How to glue a ceiling baguette with one or another composition, the detailed instructions attached to the material will tell you. The disadvantage of such adhesives is the high cost, this is especially noticeable when performing work in a large apartment or house.

Note: The cheapest do-it-yourself gluing option is regular finishing putty or drywall adhesive if used during repairs. Such a composition is more reliable, hardens faster, which allows you to paint the ceiling and baguettes in half an hour, without fear of damaging them with a roller.

The disadvantage of using putty as an adhesive is the lack of convenience when working with it. It is not very convenient to apply such building mixtures with a spatula in a thin layer on a baguette.

After gluing, the remaining putty or drywall adhesive will need to be carefully removed with a wet brush. Otherwise, clots of dry mixtures will become visible from under the paint.

How to glue the skirting board on the ceiling

Tip: Installation of the plinth should be started from any corner of the room.

Ceiling baguette can be attached in two ways:

  1. over wallpaper.
  2. Before wallpapering the walls.

Tip: Baguettes are usually white in color, so be sure to wash your hands well with soap and water before handling to prevent product contamination. Or, you need to work in clean gloves.

The gluing process is quite simple, but problems arise with trimming corners.

The subtleties of the technology of work:

  • Particular attention should be paid to cleaning the ceiling and walls from the presence of traces of glue. Acrylic and silicone compounds are removed with a rubber spatula and a damp cloth. When sticking a baguette on putty, the excess is removed with a small brush, well moistened with water.
  • All gaps between the baguette, ceiling and walls must be carefully filled with glue. The same should be done with the connections in the corners of the ceiling plinth.

Tip: You can’t expect that such cracks can be masked with paint or gluing wallpaper on the ceiling, this will not work. The glue smeared on the ceiling and walls must be carefully removed, as shown in the photo.

  • When joining straight sections, often when the glue dries, the edge of the baguette floats down and a step is formed. To avoid this, the joint of two adjacent skirting boards must be chipped in the desired position with needles, or fixed with masking tape.
  • After the glue dries, the needles are removed, and the resulting small holes and dents are carefully covered with the same glue or putty.
  • Baguettes are painted several times. The first layer - primer, allows you to hide all putty joints, and all other decorative layers are performed simultaneously with painting the ceiling. Finally, the excess glue on the baguette is cut off.

How to glue baguettes on wallpaper

Work procedure:

  • On the surface of the baguette, which are adjacent to the ceiling and wall, a thin layer of glue is applied.
  • The plank is applied to the wall and held according to the instructions for the adhesive.
  • Excess glue is removed with a clean rag or sponge.
  • All joints are carefully sealed with white sealant.
  • If necessary, the entire surface is painted with acrylic or water-based paint.

Tip: Painting the ceiling cornices should be carried out very carefully so as not to damage the glued wallpaper. It is best to do this before installation.

The main advantage of this method is that there is no need to adjust the wallpaper to fit the baguette. Framing will hide all existing burrs, distortions in the upper part of the wallpaper.

How a baguette is attached before wallpapering

This option can be found quite often. It is preferred by many professionals.

The order of work is as follows:

  • The walls and ceiling are carefully prepared, the surfaces are leveled with putty.
  • With the help of a miter box, the ends are cut.
  • A baguette is attached to the putty or drywall adhesive.
  • All the gaps formed between the baguettes, the ceiling and the walls are rubbed with putty.
  • Excess material is removed with a clean rag.
  • Subsequent work is stopped until the putty dries.
  • All surfaces are primed.
  • Painted in selected color.
  • Wallpaper is glued. At the same time, the overlap in the upper part is removed by applying a spatula and cutting off the excess with a clerical knife.

Tip: Painting a baguette with the same color as the ceiling gives the visual effect of a monolithic structure.

The main advantage of this method is that all defects are easy to fix, the frieze is painted at the installation site, and there is no fear of damaging the wallpaper.

How to glue a baguette in the corners

Preparing corners and joints is the most difficult and painstaking job of installing a frieze on the ceiling.

For work you will need:

  • Small spatula.
  • Sealant or putty in a suitable container.
  • Miter box.
  • Stationery knife or hacksaw.

Tip: Fitting the last plank should be done by cutting out the corner to avoid damage to the material when an error occurs.

For the correct trimming of the ceiling plinth in the corners, you must follow some rules.

If in the room all the angles are even and make up 90˚, then:

  • Right angles should be all:
  1. between adjacent walls to each other;
  2. between walls and ceiling.

Only in this case it will be possible to carefully cut the corners with the help of a miter box.

  • With the help of a miter box, the ceiling plinths joined in the corner are first cut.
  • Their ends are brought to the desired size with an ordinary construction blade.
  • The gap is evenly distributed over the two lengths of friezes to prevent tooth defects.

Order of cutting corners:

  • In the absence of work experience, it is better to practice using small pieces of fillets.
  • The plank in the miter box is placed in such a way as it will be located on the wall.
  • The lower part of the baguette is tightly pressed against the wall of the miter box.

How baguettes are glued to the corners

The order of work is as follows:

  • The end is cut at the desired angle. For this, a knife or a saw is used; strong pressure on the surface of the baguette cannot be done, this can crumble the material. Typically the angle is 45°.
  • The cut edges are applied to each other.
  • The absence of gaps is controlled.
  • With a knife, if necessary, interfering parts are cut.
  • Fillets are applied to the installation site.
  • The final adjustment of the elements is in progress.
  • Parts are being installed.

The corners of the ceiling plinth are glued, as indicated on the product label, in the same way as the main profile. For those who are interested in gluing baguettes to the ceiling, the video presented in this article shows in detail the entire process from start to finish. After mounting the baguettes, you can give them an original decorative look using spray paint.

More recently, the joints formed between the wall and the ceiling surface were blocked with panels or this part was covered with a thin strip of embossed paper. To date, preference is given to ceiling moldings and skirting boards, which hide existing curvatures and gaps much better. As a result, the room acquires a unique appearance. With the help of the element, you can quite easily hide the existing flaws that were not removed during the repair work. As practice shows, gluing baguettes to the ceiling is not difficult if you follow the recommendations of experts and perform all the work in stages.

How to glue baguettes to the ceiling and wallpaper

As practice shows, there are several ways to mount a baguette on the ceiling surface:

  • directly on the wallpaper;
  • even before the moment when work on finishing the premises will begin.

The advantage of the first option is the fact that it is not required to adjust the length of the wallpaper to the line of the ceiling baguette. With the help of such a decorative element, it is possible to visually hide all the existing errors on the upper edge of the wallpaper.

In order to perform the installation work correctly, it is recommended to perform everything in stages, adhering to the following algorithm:

  1. Using a miter box, a hacksaw or any other device, it is necessary to cut the edges of the baguette at the required angle.
  2. On those surfaces to which the decorative element will later adjoin, it is required to apply the adhesive composition in a thin layer.

  3. After a layer of glue is applied, it is necessary to attach the product to the wall, lightly press down and hold in this position for several minutes. As practice shows, often the manufacturer gives recommendations on the installation work using specific adhesives.

  4. If there is excess glue, then it should be removed with a rag or spatula. The joints of the baguette will need to be covered with white sealant in the future.

After the baguette is glued, you can start applying the finishing coloring composition.

How to glue baguettes on the ceiling

Before proceeding with the installation work, it is recommended that you first think about how to glue the baguette to the ceiling surface. In this case, an excellent option is the choice of ready-made adhesive compositions. If we take into account the recommendations of experts, then there are several adhesive compositions, each of which is time-tested:

  • polymeric;
  • acrylic;
  • silicone based adhesive.

Comment! When choosing a polymer option, it should be borne in mind that the level of stickiness is rather weak. To glue a baguette made of foam plastic to the ceiling surface, it will take a long time to hold it in one position, which is very difficult, especially when the product reaches a length of 2 m.

Using acrylic and silicone glue, you can quickly install a ceiling baguette. On sale you can find tubes that are designed for a pistol. It is easy to apply the composition, and thanks to the presence of an outlet spout, you can control the consumption of glue.

The most budget option is finishing putty or glue designed for drywall. A distinctive feature of this composition is an acceptable price, a quick process of solidification and setting. Literally a couple of hours after the baguette was glued, you can start painting.

Attention! The disadvantage of putty is the difficulty of applying a thin layer of the composition to the baguette with a spatula.

Preparatory work

As a rule, they start gluing ceiling moldings after the walls have already been leveled, wallpaper has been glued, or the surface has been painted. If the walls are uneven, they must first be leveled using putty or plaster for this purpose. Particular care is taken in leveling the surface if it is planned to mount plaster and wood baguettes. Styrofoam products are enough to press and they will hide the existing irregularities.

It is also recommended to prepare the surface of the ceiling in advance, namely the part to which the decorative element will be glued. If the surface is leveled and painted, no additional work is required. If necessary, the ceiling where the baguette will fit can be additionally covered with a primer layer.

If you plan to mount the decorative element not butt to the ceiling, but there will be a small margin for mounting the LED strip, then for convenience it is recommended to mark the bottom gluing line. To do this, small nails are nailed along the perimeter of the entire room at a distance of 3 cm from the ceiling, after which the thread is pulled. Subsequently, this line is guided.

How to cut baguettes on the ceiling

A rather complicated process is the cut of a baguette.
