Making barbecues and barbecue drawings. Do-it-yourself barbecue - a variety of designs and manufacturing costs. Video: what can be made from a metal barrel or gas cylinder

For many of us, cozy gatherings in nature are associated with a fire and a fragrant barbecue. The process of cooking meat on hot coals creates a spiritual, but at the same time solemn atmosphere. A high-quality brazier facilitates the process of preparing a delicious dish.

For the manufacture of this structure, several types of material are used. Basically it is: brick or metal. How to make a barbecue with your own hands? You will find the answer to this question in our article. Here are detailed diagrams and drawings of improvised structures.

Model project

Before you start making a brazier, you need to decide what material this product will be made of. Experienced craftsmen offer to make an additional system of protection against climatic conditions.

A cozy gazebo with a barbecue in the countryside adds a piece of warmth and comfort in the process of friendly gatherings. Here you can also hide from rain, wind and the scorching sun. A partially open veranda or terrace is ideal for solving this problem.

More experienced craftsmen prefer complex barbecue instructions. Here, in addition to barbecue, you can bake bread, cook food and much more. The standard parameters of such structures are:

  • height 1.5m;
  • width 1.6 m;
  • the depth of the furnace is from 0.6 to 0.8 m.

Before proceeding with the construction of such a structure, it is necessary to first make a strip foundation. There may be additional niches and a spacious storage system.

Making a brick brazier with your own hands is quite simple. The first step is to draw up a detailed project. Next, we proceed to the arrangement of the zero base. The size of the foundation must correspond to the dimensions of the structure.

If the fire zone will be located on the street, then it is not recommended to make complex structures here. The optimal solution would be parameters of 0.5 x 0.8 m. Here you can place from 5 to 10 skewers with meat.

There are hundreds of drawings of barbecues on the Internet, each of which has its own characteristics and appearance. Designs differ in sweat material type and dimensions.

Metal barbecue

Particularly popular are products made of iron. They are distinguished by their durability and aesthetic appearance.

As a rule, they represent a complex two-tiered composition. Hot coals are located in the upper part, and an ash cleaning system is located in the lower part.

A simpler option is a brazier from a balloon. The finished product is roomy and spacious. In addition to barbecue, here you can cook vegetables and a lot of all kinds of food. On one side of the cylinder, thin rods are welded using an electric welding machine. In the future, they will act as a grill.

For the construction of a metal barbecue, we need the following materials and equipment:

  • Bulgarian;
  • thin metal rods;
  • semi-automatic welding;
  • electrodes;
  • metal supports;
  • powder paint;
  • sprayer for pigment formulations.

The process of manufacturing an iron brazier is divided into several stages:

  • On the surface of the barrel or cylinder, we mark the future hole.
  • Next, along the contour, we begin to cut out the upper part of the metal base. On the sides we make shallow notches. Here, in the future, skewers with meat will be located.
  • To make a cover on the cut off part, we fasten the hinges. Next, we fix the other end of the mechanism on the side of the barbecue. This will help to freely open and close the structure at the time of operation.
  • At the bottom, we begin to mount the support legs. The height of the base is from 0.5 to 1 m.
  • When the product is almost assembled, you can proceed to the manufacture of the grill. To do this, we weld thin metal rods to one of the side parts of the cylinder.
  • We make a handle on the lid. The thicker the metal, the less it heats up.
  • The finished product is covered with black powder paint. During operation, it does not fade and does not emit harmful toxic compounds. The photo of the brazier captures the entire sequence of the workflow.

DIY barbecue photo

Everyone's favorite summer dish is barbecue. These juicy pieces with a crispy crust and an appetizing “smoke” flavor are prepared by stringing pre-marinated meat on sharp rods - skewers, frying on hot coals laid on the bottom of the grill. The design of the brazier itself is usually a metal box on legs with perforations for air circulation and small recesses on the walls for the convenience of laying skewers.

Types of metal barbecues

Based on the dimensions of the barbecue are divided into:

  • stationary;
  • portable.

Stationary barbecues equip in suburban areas. Often they are made with forging elements, trimmed with stone or installed on a brick base. This adds to the appearance of aesthetics and exclusivity. If the brazier is equipped with a canopy or installed in a gazebo, then it is possible to cook kebabs and other dishes on it in almost any weather.

Used in hiking, when going out into nature. They differ in small size and weight. Often such barbecues are folded into a metal suitcase.

The simplest model of a portable barbecue is two metal frames on which skewers are placed. The disadvantage of small portable barbecues is the inability to cook a large number of servings of barbecue at the same time.

More complex, but also heavier models can be supplemented with a small pull-out table, grates, and adjustable airflow. But such advanced options have an impressive weight, so it is much more comfortable to transport them in a private car than to carry them manually.

If we classify the braziers according to the thickness of the metal from which they are made, then the braziers are divided into:

  1. - thin-walled;
  2. - thick-walled.

thin-walled usually make portable barbecues. Steel of small thickness makes it possible to lighten the models, but the durability of the structure suffers. In thin-walled barbecues, only ready-made coals purchased in stores or prepared in advance on a fire can be used. If you cook coals directly in the metal box of the structure, the steel will quickly burn out and the brazier will become unusable.

thick-walled usually make stationary models. For this, steel with a thickness of more than four millimeters is used. Such options are significantly more expensive, but the service life is much longer than that of barbecues with thin walls.

A standard brazier has a rectangular cross section, however, you can make a device for frying barbecue with your own hands from a gas cylinder or an old barrel. But the use of a container for fuels and lubricants is not recommended. The main thing is that the thickness of the metal is sufficient for the possibility of long-term use of the structure.

In addition to the barrel itself, you will need: a welding machine, grinder, drill, metal corners.

1. We make markings and cut off the upper half of the barrel with a grinder, leaving the ends in place. We will subsequently make a cover from the cut off part.

2. We make legs for the barbecue from metal corners. We cut the corners into four identical parts and weld them to the end of the barrel.

3. We measure the length of the barrel and cut off two corners equal to this length. They will serve as a support for skewers. We make cuts on the corners every 4-6 centimeters (guides for skewers) and weld them onto the inside of the barrel.

4. Metal hinges and two handles must be welded to the lid. This will protect the brazier and coals in case of rain.

Do-it-yourself non-separable metal grill

A collapsible brazier consists of: four legs, the same number of rectangular walls with perforation and a bottom.

Before starting work, we carry out a drawing and prepare materials.

Necessary materials:

  1. steel sheet;
  2. metal corners or rods with nuts, from which we will make barbecue legs;
  3. welding machine and electrodes;
  4. drill;
  5. grinder with cutting wheels or a hacksaw.

It is more convenient to make a drawing of the future barbecue on sheets in a cage. Be sure to indicate the length of the legs, the dimensions of the brazier itself, indicate the distance between the perforations on the walls and the guide chamfers for the skewers. The optimal number of chamfers is 8 pieces. The distance between the holes for ventilation of the bottom should be chosen from 7 to 10 cm, it is better to place them at a height of 5-10 cm from the bottom of the barbecue. The length of the legs is chosen individually.

Work order:

  1. On sheet metal, we mark the walls and bottom of the barbecue. We take the thickness of the metal 1.5-2 mm, but it can be thicker, this will increase the service life and ensure optimal heating of coals and food.
  2. By marking, we cut the metal with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.
  3. We drill perforations on the walls.
  4. With a grinder or a hacksaw, we make cuts on the upper edges of the walls of the barbecue.
  5. By welding we connect the bottom and walls of the brazier.
  6. To make legs, metal corners are sharpened at one end, cutting off part of the metal at an angle. This is necessary so that the brazier enters the ground more easily.
  7. By welding we connect the corners and the metal box.

If the legs are made of metal rods, then 4 identical nuts are welded to the corners of the bottom of the barbecue, the rods are divided into four parts, each of which is threaded. Thus, a brazier with collapsible legs is obtained, which can be unscrewed if necessary.

Another option for collapsible legs is metal corners with holes for bolts, with which they can be screwed to the brazier box, and after use, unscrew and fold. But for this you have to wait for the metal to cool after cooking.

If the legs are long enough, it is advisable to connect them in pairs with metal jumpers to strengthen the structure.

Do-it-yourself collapsible metal grill

To make a fully collapsible metal brazier, a welding machine is not needed. But a drill, drills, a hacksaw or a grinder with cutting discs, bolts and nuts, a steel sheet 1.5-2 mm thick, metal corners for legs, and a tape measure will come in handy.

The first two points of work are the same as when performing a non-separable brazier - drawing and cutting out the details of the brazier from a steel sheet. But when performing a collapsible barbecue, you should add 3-4 centimeters to the joints.

Collapsible metal brazier - scheme

On the side and end walls of the brazier, we make small cuts and bend the sheets so that it becomes possible to join the corners and lay the bottom.

For a strong connection of parts during cooking, we drill holes for screws in the side edges.

We make the legs from pointed corners in a similar way, drilling holes in the walls to connect the walls of the barbecue and the legs with bolts.

The last point is the assembly of the finished structure.

Folding metal brazier

The design of a folding metal brazier is similar to the design of a non-separable brazier. The section is rectangular. The difference is that the walls of the brazier are not welded to each other, but are connected by movable furniture skirts, which allows you to fold the brazier after use. In order to prevent the walls from folding by themselves, we attach metal hooks to the upper part of the walls by welding.

This type of grill is very convenient for transportation.

Corrosion protection

It is desirable to protect any metal structure from corrosion, then it will last longer, and the appearance will be much more attractive.

Only special heat-resistant paints can be used to paint the brazier. They are sold in car dealerships in the form of an aerosol (such paints are applied to a car muffler).

Instead of painting, you can change the structure of the metal. Oxidation or bluing is a process in which a black heat-resistant film is formed on the surface of the metal. For bluing, the surface of metal parts is pre-cleaned and degreased, then the metal is kept at a temperature of 140 degrees in a solution of caustic soda (50 grams per liter of water) for one and a half to two hours.

Brazier - convenient culinary equipment, the basis for cooking in the heat. This functional invention will allow you to cook various foods using a natural coal ball. Although it was originally created as a universal cooking tool, now the brazier is the basis for cooking barbecue and meat. Around it, trips to nature and the dacha are held, marking the arrival of spring, meeting summer and seeing off autumn.

However, the acquisition of a brazier is expensive. A simple metal structure sometimes costs huge sums, not being justified by the appearance or quality. Therefore, it is much better to make a brazier yourself, using high-quality metal and your skills.

Brazier - a special tool for cooking in the heat. It has a fairly simple design, but all its features are contained in the nuances. They allow you to easily and quickly cook the same kebabs and other dishes, providing enough heat for cooking.

Among the main nuances of the brazier it is worth noting:

  • Depth
  • Air holes
  • Suitable sizes
  • Recesses for skewers

While some of these are obvious, they are all essential for quality cooking. The depth of the brazier will allow you to create a sufficient amount of heat and place the meat at a height where it will cook and not burn. It will also allow you to place enough wood at the same time.

Air holes are an important nuance of such structures. It is because of them that meat cooked on the grill is significantly different from other cooking in nature. A constant supply of air allows you to keep the heat and temperature of the coals, using their full potential.

Preliminary selection of dimensions is extremely important for the further use of the structure. After all, cooking is carried out on skewers or a grate, so you should be guided by their average dimensions. The brazier should give enough heat, be wide enough to cover the entire length of the skewer, while allowing the placement of more than eight servings of meat.

And the last nuance - notches for skewers. They allow you to place the meat in any position, frying it evenly from all sides. This approach is important for cooking juicy kebab without burnt sides.

However, these points may vary depending on the type of barbecue.

Decide on the type of barbecue

There are many varieties of these structures. After all, everyone is trying to find the best option, where it is best to cook meat and other products in the heat. Now there are several types of barbecue:

Normal

The usual brazier of a square design. Although it is heavy, it can be carried. Often the legs are removable.

collapsible

Small and lightweight collapsible option that can be carried in the car. Suitable for hiking in the forest, more convenient and simple.

Stationary

Massive brazier made of metal. The basis may be brick blocks for greater reliability. Often such barbecues are complemented by steel decorations.

The choice of type is an important nuance when building a brazier on your own. This will allow you to determine the tasks and choose the best option. But the usual type is still recommended as the most versatile choice for summer residents.

Drawings and dimensions

Before starting work, it is necessary to make the appropriate drawings and select the dimensions for the future barbecue. For the construction, we will choose the usual option, which is used most often. It is necessary to choose the appropriate height and width of the structure, as well as the appropriate length of the legs. A drawing of a simple brazier is presented as follows:

Dimensions are in millimeters. Here you can see that the total height of the brazier is 95 cm with a leg length of 70 cm. At the same time, the depth of the brazier will be 25 cm, which is the optimal distance from the heat to the skewers.

The width of the brazier is 28 cm, which is slightly lower than the average size of a skewer. Length - 54 cm, necessary for the uniform distribution of nine portions over the ball.

The upper part of the structure is equipped with gaps for skewers. They allow you to evenly distribute the meat so that it does not touch each other, as well as freely fix it when rotating for even frying. The distance between the gaps is 6 cm. It is necessary to leave a little space between the extreme gaps and the walls so that the meat does not touch them and does not burn.

Preparation of elements of the future design

The basis for the barbecue are metal sheets. It is not recommended to use other materials, because it is the metal that provides the structure with sufficient resistance to heat and compactness. The thickness of the metal is about 2-3 mm. For work you will need:

  1. 2 sheets of metal 280x250 mm
  2. 2 sheets of metal 240x250 mm
  3. 1 sheet of metal 540x280 mm
  4. 4 metal pipes or angles 700 mm long
  5. Drill
  6. Welding machine
  7. Roulette
  8. Bulgarian or saw for metal

Many prefer a different build option. Various sheets can be replaced with one large metal sheet. By making several cuts, you can connect the structure with a minimum number of welds. So it will be more reliable.

It is worth considering additional elements if your design differs from the above. It can be completed with carrying handles, tray, leg recesses and other details.

To begin with, there is a preliminary markup. Places of fastening and welding are marked, gaps for skewers are created. For this, a grinder or a saw is used. Air holes are also created in this step.

Do-it-yourself barbecue welding

Welding is the best option for barbecue. It tolerates large temperature changes and is much more effective than bolting. For this, a welding machine is used, the type of which is selected according to preference. After that, the structure is alternately fixed and welded at the corners.

At the end of the work, it is necessary to grind the seams and check the design for reliability.

Barbecues made of metal with a canopy

For cooking kebabs in bad weather, a special design of the barbecue with a canopy is used. This will hide the meat and heat from precipitation, but this design is not simple. There are two options here:

  • Installation of an additional canopy that is not related to the barbecue
  • Installation of a canopy on the barbecue itself

The first option is optimal, because it will allow you to hide both the barbecue and the barbecue itself. At the same time, its design and installation is much simpler. The second option requires additional calculations so that the base can withstand the weight of the canopy.

It is recommended to mount the structure on metal corners. This is the best option, because it greatly facilitates the assembly of the canopy. The canvas for the canopy itself is corrugated board. It is fireproof, does not react to temperature changes and has a low weight, which is important for such a lightweight design.

The assembly of the canopy is no different from the usual one, you only need fire protection and a convenient location for the base. This will allow you to cook food freely without clinging to the armature.

The variant of the brazier with a canopy in one design is more complicated and is performed by professional welders. This requires the creation of a reliable structure, the weight of which is evenly distributed on the base. For stationary barbecues, it is much easier to make a canopy, because you can make a supporting foundation for them.

The structure with a canopy can be additionally decorated with metal elements, as can be seen in the photo. This will not only improve the appearance, but also make the canopy more reliable and stable.

Coloring the end result

An important nuance in creating a brazier is painting. It is simply necessary, because the metal used in the construction is easily rusted, and soot and ash do not improve its appearance.

For painting, special compositions are used. They have the following requirements:

  • Temperature resistance
  • Heat resistance
  • No harmful fumes

The following coatings meet this requirement:

  • Silicone enamels
  • Powder thermal paints
  • Heat-resistant paints for various purposes

The second option for such tasks is best suited, but it is difficult to apply them with your own hands. They require special firing, after which they get their properties.

There is another option - oxidation. It is quite difficult to perform, but it is possible to do it with your own hands.

The color of paint is better to choose black. Since there will be a lot of soot and ash nearby, other coatings will quickly get dirty. On the same color, the plaque will be invisible.

Making a brazier on your own is quite simple. For this, a sheet of metal, welding and desire is enough. But it is worth adhering to the scheme and plan, because minor deviations can further affect the ease of use of the barbecue. This video will help with this, where the assembly of a more complex structure is demonstrated:

Brazier made of metal: the nuances of manufacturing technology

Barbecue craftsmen can cook this dish even in the middle of a dense forest without a single device for this. But still, it is much more pleasant and more convenient to use reliable, proven and durable devices for cooking in nature. But most often this process occurs with the participation of barbecues.

Peculiarities

The most common barbecue device is a metal grill.

Here are its main advantages.

  • Simplicity. Most often, the brazier is a box with legs, inside which firewood or coals are poured, a fire is made, and skewers with meat or a grill with vegetables are placed on top.
  • Mobility. Some metal models can be used anywhere: on the ground, on a concrete pad, on a terrace, and even on a sandy beach.
  • Functionality. Even the simplest inventions can be decorated with ornate forging, which can serve as additional hooks for hanging skewers or nets. You can build a structure with a roof or with additional shelves.

  • Security. The metal does not burn, does not melt and does not create fires. And this is a big plus.
  • Profitability. Even in the absence of the necessary material and the desire to make a barbecue out of metal yourself, you will spend a small amount of money on its purchase.

The disadvantages include not always aesthetic appearance and fragility of some models. However, all these nuances are eliminated and adjusted individually for each user and for each case.

The unique feature of metal braziers is that they can be easily made by yourself.

You do not need to have any special knowledge or skills to do this. You just need to decide on the model and materials, listen to the advice of professionals or just knowledgeable people, and also be sure that your plan is 100% realized.

Device and principle of operation

Starting to consider the device from the bottom up, be sure to pay attention to the legs. As a rule, these are four metal corners, pointed downwards so that they can be stuck into the ground. The height of this element is selected individually if the product is made to order. In construction and gardening stores, you will most likely come across standard universal models with a length of 80 to 120 cm. Metal reinforcing bars are sometimes chosen as this element, some craftsmen resort to a forged version of the brazier base.

There are also unique home-made designs installed on the lower iron part of sewing machines, tables unsuitable for use, and so on. Almost everything is used that is stable on any surface and is able to withstand the mass of a metal box and its contents in the process of cooking on fire.

The steel box, which consists of four sidewalls and a bottom, is the basis of the brazier structure. Often, the lower part of this box is made reinforced in order to increase the life of the entire structure. The side walls must be perforated so that the heat does not accumulate in one place and air circulation occurs. Thus, a kind of blower is created, as in stoves.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a metal grill with your own hands

The presence of a stationary hearth on the site or a mobile one at a country picnic dramatically improves the quality of recreation with your family or a large company. Since do-it-yourself braziers made of metal have different sizes, photos of various modifications in this manual will help you choose the best option for specific operating conditions.

Classification of barbecues with drawings and photos

The main operational features of the hearths for cooking a hot dish in a hurry are:

  • occasional use, prolonged inactivity;
  • location in the open air or in the gazebo;
  • the high temperature of the coals on which food is cooked.

The best option for a country house is a full-fledged brick barbecue oven. However, it takes up a lot of space, weighs more than 700 kg, requires a slab foundation and dramatically increases the construction budget.

The original metal brazier, the photo of which is given above, is not inferior to the quality of the design of a brick barbecue oven. They are classified according to:

  • mobility - portable (folding), mobile (only within the site) and stationary;
  • dimensions - large for large companies and small for families;
  • shape - pipe, barrel, rectangle, architectural modifications;
  • additions - a canopy, a chimney, a compartment for a fire.

It is important for the user to understand that during the burning of firewood, increased metal wear occurs. Therefore, it is better to cook coals in a fire or buy them ready-made, and keep the heat inside the brazier without an open fire. Then the equipment will last longer.

Standard sizes

To weld a brazier with your own hands from metal, you must have the appropriate equipment and the skill to work with it. The home master should take into account the following nuances:

  • a skewer 25 cm long is considered standard so that a portion of 6 pieces of medium-sized meat can be strung on it, therefore, the optimal width of the brazier is 30 cm;
  • for a family, a structure length of 70–100 cm is recommended; if the hearth is planned to be used for frequent reception of friends and relatives, this size is increased due to a special compartment for coals; there should be a distance of 8–10 cm between the skewers;
  • the depth of the steel box should provide a distance of 30 cm from the coals to the skewers, in this case the meat does not burn, and the coals do not flare up from drops of fat;
  • the upper side of the barbecue, on which the skewers are laid, should be at a distance of 50 - 70 cm from the ground, taking into account the height of the cook for collapsible types and 80 - 120 cm for stationary modifications.

Look at the options on the drawings:

Attention: In view of the foregoing, the design of barbecues from horizontally located 100 - 200 l barrels should be supplemented with a steel perforated sheet - a hearth. Otherwise, the thickness of the coals will be uneven, the meat in the middle part of the skewers may burn.

What are there?

Before you weld a brazier for a stationary installation, you should familiarize yourself with the original homemade crafts of home craftsmen. Dramatically improves the quality of service hearth chimney. However, more sheet metal is spent on it, when placed inside the gazebo, it will be necessary to make a node for passing through the roof, to break through the roof.

Free-standing metal barbecues are weather-dependent, so they are usually equipped with canopies made of galvanized steel, corrugated board, metal tiles. So that in the case of short rainfall, the meat can be roasted without problems.

On large plots with recreation areas, solid-sized barbecues, ponds and other elements of landscape design, mobile barbecues on wheels are being built. This facilitates table setting, allows you to move the smoky hearth away from the guests' resting place.

For country rest, small collapsible or transformable foci are often built. They have a small size to fit in the trunk of a car, a simple rectangular shape without decorative frills.

What are they made from?

Taking into account all the above nuances, the design of the brazier can consist of sheet metal blanks, forged elements, or it partially uses finished steel products of a suitable shape / size:

  1. metal barrels;
  2. sewing machines;
  3. cuttings of a steel pipe of large diameter;
  4. forged and cast shelves, countertops;
  5. propane tanks;
  6. washing machine tanks.

In any case, they will have to be finalized in order to link them with the standard dimensions of the hearth and fit into the existing landscape design.

Self-manufacturing of a stationary brazier made of metal

The most popular are two technologies on how to make a brazier out of metal with your own hands of a stationary type:

  1. from a barrel: the design is almost ready, you need to weld the legs, cut the workpiece and add internal elements;
  2. classic rectangular: you will need a sketch or drawing in a graphic editor for marking and cutting blanks, more electrodes and metal are consumed.

By default, a barrel product has a ready-made lid, which allows you to protect the steel structure from snow in winter and rain in summer. For the convenience of the home master, both options will be discussed below.

From the barrel with step by step instructions

Before you build a brazier from a stationary type metal barrel, you need to mark and cut it in the following order:

  • lid: the barrel is either cut in half along with both bottoms, or a hatch ¼ of the circumference is cut out in it, the bottoms remain intact, they must be retreated from them by at least 2 cm to ensure structural rigidity;
  • under: a steel rectangular sheet for coals with drilled holes through which ash will fall down to ensure periodic excavation of ash, to be attached removable;
  • supporting elements: they are made from a corner, skewers will lie on them, therefore, vertical slots are created in one shelf of the corner, the length of these elements is slightly less than the height of the barrel.

Under should be located 20 - 30 cm below the skewers, according to the standard dimensions of the metal grill. For ease of removal / laying in place, bracket handles are welded to the plate.

The supporting elements are welded in a single horizontal level, one near the cut-out hole-hatch, the second at the far wall opposite it. Instead of a corner, you can use a rectangular profile pipe.

To fix a round barrel in space and provide a convenient height for cooking kebabs of a metal barbecue, it is necessary to make a stand. There are several options, the most common of which are:

Then it remains only to weld the hinges to open the lid, clean the inner surface of the product that was stored in this container, remove the standard layer of coatings (paints and varnishes) from the outside and paint the case with a special heat-resistant paint that can withstand extreme operating temperatures.

Classic with drawing and video

Step-by-step instructions on how to properly weld a classic-type barbecue are as follows:

A couple of drawings for example:

Well, a couple of photos for example:

The metal container must be airtight, so the seams must be continuous. If the barbecue is planned to be moved around the site, one pair of legs is made shorter and equipped with wheels. How to weld it correctly and what sizes to take, see the following video:

Well, and another step-by-step video instruction on how well you can do without welding:

For more comfortable operation of the hearth, it is recommended to equip it with a shelf for storing firewood (attached to the legs at half their height), a lid (removable or hinged) and a canopy. Racks for a canopy are usually welded to the legs of the barbecue or to its body.

You can (and should) decorate the hearth with forged elements, overlays in the form of animal figures made of sheet steel. The aesthetic value of such a design depends entirely on the imagination of the home master or the creativity of the designer who developed the project. Here, for example, is an interesting idea using legs from a sewing machine:

Modifications from a washing machine tank or a large-diameter vertical pipe are unsuitable for a classic iron barbecue. They can fit a maximum of 3 skewers of standard length, so these foci are used for another cooking technology - barbecue. In principle, any brazier can be supplemented with a stainless steel wire grill and get a barbecue.

Making a portable barbecue

For suburban picnics, a stationary hearth is unsuitable, therefore, a collapsible or transformable metal barbecue is built with your own hands from sheet steel. The main nuances of the mobile hearth are:

  • the height and width of the bottom and side walls, all dimensions of the end walls remain unchanged;
  • the legs are made removable (less often they are hinged), the length depends on the size of the trunk of the car;
  • on the side and end walls, shelves are bent from below, on which the bottom is laid after assembly;
  • the walls are connected by slots oppositely directed relative to each other or are also hinged into the working / transport position.

Read more about the manufacture of this type of barbecue here.

Thus, knowing the dimensions for cooking barbecue, the approximate number of users, you can make a mobile iron barbecue. For the construction of a stationary one, additional welding equipment will be required (although you can do without it), but all the necessary information is above.

How to make a barbecue from metal with your own hands (photos, diagrams, drawings and videos)

Owners of country houses often spend time outdoors, especially during the warm season. Therefore, you can not do without a barbecue. If you do not yet have such a design, then you can make it yourself from metal. First you need to decide on the type of structure:

  • Stationary. Such a brazier is installed on a reliable base. The service life can reach several tens of years.
  • Portable. Such a structure can be disassembled and transported to another place at any time. However, the service life of such a structure is short.
  • Mobile. The brazier is equipped with small wheels, thanks to which it can be moved around your land.

After that, you need to develop a drawing and a diagram to facilitate work at all stages.

In this article, we will consider the main nuances of self-production of such a design.

The optimal size of the brazier

The dimensions of the barbecue structure should ensure comfortable cooking. Since the skewers need to be constantly turned over, you need to decide on the optimal height. To do this, you need to measure the distance from the palm with the arm bent at the elbow to the surface of the earth. The standard size is 1 m, however, the height of portable options often does not exceed 70 cm.

In order for the meat to be well fried, a distance of up to 10 cm must be made between the skewers. Therefore, the length of the structure depends on the number of guests. Shish kebab should be cooked in no more than 3 doses. Otherwise, you can spend half a day at the barbecue. On average, the length of the structure is 1 m. If it is longer, you will have to constantly run around the structure, as well as provide a sufficient amount of coal, as well as maintain optimal heat.

The standard length of the skewers is 40 cm, on which you can put up to 8 pieces. Therefore, the width of the brazier should correspond to 40 cm.

The depth of the barbecue should be no more than 20 cm. At the same time, from meat to coals it should be about 10 cm. Otherwise, the meat will be raw if the height is greater, or it will burn if it is small.

How to make a metal grill with a canopy (with a roof)

To protect the barbecue structure from natural precipitation, it is recommended to make a canopy. Before this, it is necessary to develop a drawing, indicating the main parameters and parts.

The roof can be made of slate, polycarbonate or metal tiles. Sidewalls are best assembled from a profile pipe with a section of 40X40. To improve the appearance of the frame, decorative elements are attached to it.

A compact structure with a canopy looks like this:

Side racks from a profile pipe can be made straight, but bent metal allows you to give a unique appearance. It is almost impossible to do this with your own hands, so you need to prepare a pipe up to 2.5 m long and take it to specialists, as well as show the diagram.

When the profile is ready, you will need to weld the frame. At the next stage, a brazier holder is made, as well as firewood grills.

To avoid distortions of the structure, you need to have welding experience, this will allow you to achieve a single construction of gratings and frames. Therefore, the side racks must be installed on a flat surface and parallel to each other. Therefore, it is recommended to use the help of another person.

Before welding the elements, they must be checked with a building level. After that, transverse pipes are attached to the roof. Roofing material is fixed with self-tapping screws.

At the last stage, a brazier is made. To do this, it is necessary to prepare metal with a thickness of 3 mm. During the development of the drawing, the brazier should be 3 mm smaller than the holder grate, as the metal will expand during heating.

If you need to make a roof for a large barbecue, then you need to purchase more profile pipes. To make such a canopy is not more difficult than the previous one, you only need to prepare a sketch.

  • Cut the profile to the required length.
  • Fasten the side frames with a welding machine.
  • Using transverse pipes, connect the sidewalls from below and from above.
  • Make a grill for the holder of the fire box and install on the structure.
  • A bent profile is fixed on top of the side racks for fastening the roof, which is fastened with self-tapping screws.
  • If necessary, the frame can be decorated with decorated elements.

We make a barbecue made of metal with a chimney and a cauldron with our own hands under the gazebo

If it is assumed that the structure will be located in the gazebo, then you need to make a chimney. To do this, you need to know some features of self-production.

To determine the height of the chimney and its cross section, you can use the formula, but it is so complicated that it is rarely used. It is easier to divide the channel area by the furnace area.

The graph indicates a pipe with a different cross section.

Since a small number of parameters are taken into account, there may be small errors.

Above a metal structure for cooking barbecue, most often a special smoke box with a chimney is installed. Dimensions are calculated individually. You need to understand that at a height of about 5 cm above the barbecue, smoke should be collected, which, under the influence of draft, will go into the chimney.

You can fix the smoke hood to the roof of the gazebo yourself. A brazier with a cauldron will act as a separate structure that can be moved if necessary.

There are many mounting options that differ in the mechanism for changing position. Consider one example with a long bolt. Thanks to this method, the cap can be lowered if necessary or raised.

First you need to make a base on the roof and fix the nut with a welding machine. And the cap itself needs to be welded on a ring, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the head of a long bolt.

A chimney must be connected to the cap, the height of which above the roof level must be at least 50 cm.

Under such a smoke box, you can install a brazier, with the possibility of using a cauldron. If you have welding experience, then this model is a good option.

If this is not possible, then you can make a simple brazier from car disks. I described this manufacturing option in one of the previous articles.

Summing up, we can say that for the manufacture of a metal barbecue, certain skills are needed to work with a welding machine. Otherwise, it is recommended to make the structure from other materials.

Types of metal barbecues and their optimal sizes

Metal brazier is the easiest to manufacture. Therefore, it is the most common, especially among those people who like to do something with their own hands and constantly relax in the country or in nature.

Braziers made of metal are:

Portable can be fully or partially collapsible.

Folding products

The first type is a single structure that can be folded into portable case. Such metal barbecues are designed for tourists. Therefore, their features are:

  • small sizes;
  • relatively low weight.

Another feature of the correct folding braziers is a special material. They are used for their manufacture thin fire-resistant stainless steel. At the same time, all loops are also made from it with their own hands. Thanks to this, the brazier turns out to be quite light in weight.

Stainless steel is very easy to clean from soot. It is enough to wipe with a cloth, and its mirror appearance returns. Therefore, a folding brazier can be put in a backpack and not worry that something inside will become dirty.

Folding braziers are also made of sheet metal. They may have the above dimensions, and may also be larger. The products are a little heavy and therefore suitable for short trips. Such designs are a good option in cases where there is very little space in the car.

Collapsible and stationary models

Portable fully collapsible barbecues can also be folded compactly. However, compactness will be worse than that of folding ones. After all, the scheme provides for large-sized parts. At the same time, the creators use racks with a height of 1 m. They are much larger than similar elements of a folding barbecue. Due to their large size and height, collapsible portable braziers create great comfort while cooking barbecue.

Stationary ones have a large mass, and they can only be carried around the courtyard. They are distinguished by a large number of decorating beautiful elements. Many of them are forged. Such braziers have almost the same brazier as in collapsible structures. All other elements are beautifully designed and depend on the imagination of the creator. Often such barbecues resemble characters from fairy tales, a train, cars and any other items. Many stationary braziers are built into a frame with a roof.

Forms of braziers

The brazier of a brazier can look like:

  1. Boxes without top.
  2. Vertical wide cylinder with a pillar in the center.
  3. A cylinder with a throat at the top.
  4. Gutters with rounded bottom.

The most commonly used brazier with the first type of brazier. Many make the latter type. Its name sounds a little strange, in practice it is a barrel or gas cylinder cut along.

Ideal Model

Its features depend on the shape of the brazier. Each form has its own optimal dimensions.

The drawing of an ideal classic rectangular metal brazier has the following features:

  1. Width - 250 mm. This is enough to accommodate 6-8 pieces of meat. With this value, all pieces, including those in the middle, receive heat from the longitudinal side walls. This heat is necessary for the formation of a golden crust. If you make the width larger, then the middle pieces will be without a crust.
  2. Length - about 1 m. This takes into account that one skewer should account for 8-12 cm. A margin of 5 cm on both sides is also taken into account. It turns out that 8 skewers can be placed in a meter barbecue. This is enough for an average company. You should not make a long length, because the cook will have to run from one end to the other. It is more convenient to stay in one place.
  3. Height - 200 mm. The optimal height is 150 mm. However, firewood is different and gives off its own amount of heat.
  4. Vertical cutouts in the longitudinal side walls. Their length should be 50 mm. This value will allow you to select the height of the skewers, depending on the type of firewood. The meat should be 30-70 mm from the coals.
  5. Holes in the bottom. There must be many. The diameter of each hole should be 10-15 mm. The distance between holes and rows of holes should be 20-30 mm. Drawings of an ideal brazier may include a mesh bottom. This option is better, since the air flow to the coals increases. The mesh should be made of wire with a diameter greater than 4 mm.
  6. Thickness metal walls - 2 mm and even better 4-6 mm. This will ensure a long service life and the creation of the necessary heat for cooking barbecue.
  7. The height of the entire structure depends on the height of the cook. In most cases - 1 m.

How to make the perfect model

First you need draw your own drawing. At the same time, the above rules are observed. The drawing will allow you to determine the dimensions of each side wall. During its drawing, they are determined with the implementation of the possibility of parsing the barbecue. If possible, then the length of the side walls should be increased by 2 cm. These additional centimeters will be curved edges. That is, 1 cm of each of the sides that will adjoin the racks will need to be bent at an angle of 90 °. 1 cm of the bottom edge of the sides of any brazier also needs to be bent. Do it inside the structure.

According to the drawn up drawing cut sheet metal and a profile pipe or corners. Holes are drilled in the bottom. Slots are made in the longitudinal side walls. In the case of a fully collapsible structure, two long openings are made in the racks. Their length should be equal to the height of the brazier. Imaginary lines that will pass through the openings should form a right angle.

If a non-separable brazier is created with your own hands, then the sidewalls are first welded. Next, racks are welded to them. You may or may not weld. This will improve the portability of the design. In this case, each pair of racks must be made in the form of the letter "H". In this case, the ends of the racks should be 1-2 cm higher than the horizontal partition. For reliable fixation, 4 protruding metal squares with dimensions of 2x2 cm can be welded to the sides of the brazier at the level of the top of the racks. These squares and racks will need to be fastened with hooks in the shape of the letter “P”.

Throat Model

Such a brazier resembles a large bottle. The design consists of three parts:

  1. wide cylinder. Its height is 180-200 mm.
  2. cut cone. Height - 100-150 mm.
  3. narrow cylinder. It has a height equal to 100-150 mm.

The bottom part has a lot of holes in it. They are not only in the bottom, but also in the side walls. The upper ones are made at a height of 130 mm. The presence of side holes is a very interesting feature. Proper braziers should not have such holes, since a lot of oxygen enters the meat through them. It changes the chemical processes in the meat, and the dish is not the way it should be.

However, in the case of cooking meat on this grill, this is not the case because so much firewood is burned in the brazier that the side holes are blocked by coals. With the gradual smoldering of coals, the holes will become free, but until this moment the process of cooking meat is completed. As a result, some of the wood is wasted.

This brazier is used for cooking shish kebab in kara style. The dish is a large piece of meat. Its thickness reaches 3-4 cm, and in size it resembles a small plate.

barrel construction

Brazier with round bottom does not work as well as the rectangular broiler sample. It's because:

  • rounded walls reflect heat back to the coals;
  • in the middle, the coals quickly settle, and at the edges they do not have time to burn out properly.

Therefore, just sawing a barrel in half or cutting a lid in it with your own hands is not enough to create the right barbecue. The problem with excessive sedimentation of coal can be solved thanks to the installation of an air duct. There are two options for creating it:

  1. Lattice for potbelly stove. They put it on the bottom. On it, the coals will lie in an even layer. In addition, under it there will be a space with air. For the influx of fresh air, you need to make holes in the center of the bottom.
  2. Corner with dimensions 85x85 mm. It needs to make several rows of holes. Then it is welded to the bottom. Holes can be made under it or in places where its ends are placed.

When creating a barbecue from a barrel, you need to follow the rule regarding the optimal width. The workpiece should not be cut in half, but by a third or a quarter. The width of the resulting cut should be 25 cm. In this case, the recommendation regarding the correct distance between the meat and the coals is not followed.

However, test sketches showed that the kebab is very good. This is explained by the fact that the infrared rays reflected from the walls create additional heating of the coals, and there is denser flow of hot air.

After making the brazier, the following steps are as follows:

  1. Creation of openings for skewers.
  2. Welding hinges and attaching the cover.
  3. Attaching the handle to the lid.
  4. Rack manufacturing.

Advantages of iron braziers

This kind of barbecues are very popular, and the reason lies in their undeniable advantages, such as:

  • low cost;
  • easy cleaning, transportation, assembly/dismantling;
  • even roasting of meat (iron retains heat perfectly);
  • security;
  • ease of use;
  • the possibility of making your own hands.

Usually home-made barbecues are welded, but in the absence of welding equipment, you can resort to bolting.

Mangal production

The work will require the following tools:

  • Sheet steel;
  • grinder, disks for it;
  • electric drill;
  • roulette;
  • (or tie-down bolts).

Consider the process of creating a traditional metal barbecue.

Stage 1. Plan

First, a plan is drawn up - a small diagram of the future product. In the diagram, you need to describe the barbecue in as much detail as possible, indicate the dimensions of each part. The most convenient is the brazier with a height of 85 cm and a brazier with a size of 40x80 cm.

In addition to drawing up a diagram, you should take care of consumables.

Note! It is undesirable to use too thick sheets of steel in work, otherwise the structure will be difficult to lift. Steel should be 0.4 cm to 1 cm thick.

Stage 2. Consumables

Below are the components for the manufacture of a barbecue grill with a height of 85 cm.

Supports:

  • 4 iron legs 65 cm long from a corner or pipe ø2.5 cm;
  • a pair of ø2 cm elbows or pipes for the horizontal connection of the legs (each such connection will be 76.5 cm long).

Brazier :

  • two walls measuring 77x20 cm, made of steel sheet;
  • a pair of transverse walls 39x20 cm;
  • metal mesh 39x77 cm;
  • a pair of transverse pipes for the bottom of the structure 39 cm long;
  • two iron handles for easy transportation;
  • several fireclay bricks.

Note! Instead of a grid with crossbars, you can use one single sheet 39x77 cm.

You will also need a cover of the appropriate size with longitudinal edges folded inward.

Stage 3. Welding work

Step 1. First, the body is welded from the walls and bottom (the use of bolts will be discussed below).

Step 2 The legs are welded to the body.

Step 3. The legs are strengthened with a longitudinal connection, preferably at a height of 15 cm - so there will be a margin for storing firewood between them.

Step 4. If a metal mesh was used for the bottom of the brazier, then fireclay bricks are laid. Small holes are made in the longitudinal walls (5 pieces on each side, step - 10 cm) to supply oxygen (so the firewood will be ignited faster).

Step 5. Handles made of steel wire ø1 cm are fixed on the transverse walls.

Welders

Stage 4. Painting the barbecue

First, let's figure out whether it is necessary to paint the barbecue at all. On the one hand, paint, as well as other chemicals, is undesirable to be applied to the grill, because the cooked meat will absorb harmful substances. On the other hand, the current products used to paint barbecue grills are absolutely safe.

Note! The problem can only be a high combustion temperature, which can lead to delamination or even combustion of the paint layer.

Among all refractory coatings for barbecue, it is recommended to choose the following:

  • organosilicon enamel, which can withstand temperatures up to 600ᵒС;
  • powdered paints - effective, but difficult to apply (need high-temperature firing);
  • oxidation technology.

The last option is the most suitable. First, the body is treated with 5% sulfuric acid, then boiled in a solution of laundry soap and boiled for 1.5 hours in an infusion of sodium hydroxide. As a result, a black non-stick layer is formed on the structure, protecting it from rust.

Barbecue stationary with a canopy

Stationary brazier with a canopy, drawings 1-Firebox. 2-table. 3-Stand. 4-Canopy. 7-Skewer

After making a stationary barbecue, it is advisable to build a canopy for it. There are many materials that can be used for this with minimal time and money. Unless the iron structure cannot be made without welding (if desired, it can be replaced with a coupler with bolts).

Shed supports are usually welded to the legs of the barbecue, but sometimes there are very large structures (4x4 m), for which four metal poles are concreted.

On top of the pillars around the perimeter of the canopy, corners of 5x5 cm are laid, and on top of them - a metal profile or any other roofing material. If desired, the canopy is decorated with forging.

It is easier to make a wooden canopy, but the surface should also be treated with a fire retardant.

Making a brazier from an iron barrel

If desired, you can design a more dimensional version - for example, a stationary structure from a barrel. The barrel itself can be any, the main thing is that its size is enough for cooking barbecue.

Note! When choosing a barrel, special attention should be paid to its “past”. If chemicals or fuels and lubricants were previously stored in it, then it is forbidden to use it to create a barbecue.

In addition to the barrel itself, you should prepare:

  • steel corner with a shelf at least 4.5 cm high;
  • four rubber wheels (preferably with a metal base);
  • two sets of door hinges;
  • door handle (iron);
  • metal mesh;
  • grinder, disks for it;
  • welding;
  • jigsaw.

Manufacturing instructions

Step 1. Sections of the corner of the required length are cut. The height of the structure should be approximately 1 m, and the width should correspond to the length of the barrel.

Step 2. The side elements will consist of two horizontal and two vertical posts each. The first ones will be installed from below, about 25 cm from the bottom edge of the uprights, and from above, at the level of the radius of the barrel. The racks are laid out on a flat surface and welded as shown in the image - at an angle of 90ᵒ.

Step 3. The second side part of the structure is welded in the same way, after which both elements are connected by means of two corners installed at the level of the lower horizontal racks.

Note! You need to connect with extreme care to avoid distortions.

Step 4 Wheels are attached to the sidewall.

Step 5. Next, a barrel is installed on the finished support. This must be done in such a way that the drain hole is located at the back and top at an angle of 30ᵒ, on the right side (in relation to the front). Such a hole during operation will serve as an exhaust hood.

Step 6. With the help of chalk, ¼ of the barrel is marked - the lid of the barbecue. The marked part is cut out with a jigsaw, the edges are carefully cleaned with a grinder with a grinding disc.

Step 7. Door hinges are attached to a quarter of the barrel, after which they are connected to the base - the lid is ready. For ease of use, a door handle is attached to the lid.

Step 8 A pipe of the appropriate diameter is inserted into the hood.

Step 9. It remains only to take care of the internal arrangement. Special holders are welded on the inner surface of the case (iron plates measuring 3x6 cm, although thin corners can also be taken). These holders are installed in the middle of each side, two pieces each.

Note! For convenient transportation, a handle can be attached to the barbecue frame. After that, the design is painted in the same way as described in the previous paragraph of the article.

Video - Brazier from a barrel

Learn how to make, and also consider collapsible and stationary structures, from our new article.

If the goal is to create not only a functional, but also an attractive barbecue grill from a design point of view, then we advise you to pay attention to artistic forging. Of course, it is impossible to do it yourself without special equipment and appropriate skills.

Or another option: if it is possible to get the front of an old car, then it can also be used in the manufacture of barbecue facilities. The brazier in this design is placed in the hood. Moreover, the brazier already has wheels, so you can take it with you to nature (as a trailer, of course).

It is unlikely that in a city apartment there is a place for a full-fledged barbecue, but this does not mean that you should deny yourself a good picnic. For such cases, there is a miniature balcony barbecue, attached to the railing like flower pots. The length of such structures is slightly more than half a meter, so they are suitable for even the smallest terraces and balconies.

If desired, the balcony grill can be screwed to the wall or installed in any other convenient place. In a word, now you can enjoy a real barbecue without even leaving your apartment.

In order for the barbecue to serve as long as possible, it is necessary to follow all fire safety rules. The distance from the fire to the wooden structural elements (if any - for example, a nozzle on the transport handle) should be at least 20 cm. Moreover, all these elements must be treated with an antiseptic and fire retardant.

Earlier, when the assortment of spices was very scarce, a burning tree was used to add flavor to dishes. Below are the types of trees and the meat for which they are best used:

  • oak - seafood, poultry;
  • apple tree - lamb, beef, pork;
  • grape vine - snails, seafood;
  • alder - salmon, turkey;
  • maple - seafood, poultry, pork;
  • birch - beef, chicken;
  • cherry - bird, lamb.

There is another option - to buy ready-made coal briquettes in the store. Briquettes give a permanent heat, but at the same time there is no aroma. There is also loose coal, but it burns unevenly due to the different sizes of the pieces.

Before frying, the grate should be greased so that food does not stick to it. And the last thing: the place for installing the barbecue should be cleared of dry grass, branches, debris in advance, it is also desirable that there is always a bucket of sand nearby.

The welding quality of the device is at its best, and it can work even with a sagging voltage in the network. Unlike many unified models, the Overman inverter semiautomatic device is “sharpened” to work exclusively with wire. The input voltage threshold was only 140 V, and the idle performance was reduced to 42 V. The current strength here is regulated within 40-200 A, which allows you to perform most standard work at the household level.

  • protected case (ip 21);
  • works with all types of welding wire;
  • separate adjustment of current and inductance;
  • removable torch sleeve with euro connector;
  • stable operation at low voltage.
  • no smooth adjustment of the wire feed speed;
  • PV only 40%;
  • bulky design and weight more than 15 kg.

Svarog ProMIG is a worthy hybrid that gives equally good results in any type of welding. An inexperienced welder will also cope with it, but the high cost of the device translates it into the category of professional equipment. One of the most popular new generation inverters provides 4 MAG / MIG operating modes with the possibility of argon arc welding.

  • wide current range 10-200 A;
  • automatic and manual settings of current and voltage parameters;

  • universality;
  • extended current setting range;
  • the ability to work in several welding modes;
  • the presence of displays to display the selected characteristics;
  • long torch sleeve 3 m.
  • short electrode holder and ground cables;
  • rather big weight (12 kg).

Brazier is a convenient and useful culinary equipment for cooking in the heat. This functional invention allows you to cook different foods using natural heat from coals. Despite the fact that it was originally made as a universal cooking tool, today the brazier is the basis for cooking meat and barbecue. Around it, trips to the country and nature are held, seeing off autumn, meeting the arrival of spring and celebrating summer. And below we will provide drawings of metal barbecues, their photos and videos on the technology of manufacturing barbecues of various designs.

Buying a brazier is an expensive purchase. A simple metal structure sometimes costs a lot of money, not justified by the quality or its appearance. Therefore, it is much better to make a brazier with your own hands, using drawings, high-quality metal, as well as your skills.

Barbecue base

The brazier is a convenient tool for cooking in the heat. It has a very solid construction, but all its features are in the nuances. They allow you to quickly and easily cook kebabs and other dishes, providing a sufficient amount of heat for cooking.

Among the main advantages of the brazier it is worth highlighting the following:

  • suitable sizes;
  • air holes;
  • depth;
  • notches for skewers.

Although some of them are obvious, they are all required for quality cooking. As for the depth of the barbecue, it allows you to gain enough heat and place the meat at a height where it will cook, but not burn. Thus, you can put the required amount of wood.

Air holes are a particularly important nuance of these designs. After all, it is precisely because of them that meat that is cooked on the grill is very different from another way of cooking in nature. Regular air supply allows you to keep the temperature and heat of the coals, making full use of the full potential.

Attention! Another nuance of the barbecue is a pallet. It prevents coal from falling through special ventilation holes to the bottom and contributes to partial air regulation.

For further use of the design, sizing is extremely important. After all, cooking takes place on a grill or skewers, so you need to build on its average size. The brazier should be wide, which allows you to place the entire length of the skewer and should give the required amount of heat, allowing the placement of more than eight servings of meat.

And the last nuance is the manufacture of recesses for skewers. They allow you to place the meat in any position, frying it evenly from different sides. This approach plays a big role in cooking fragrant and juicy kebab without burning.

But these points always vary depending on the type of barbecue.

We decide on the type of barbecue: drawings, photos

It should be said right away that there are numerous varieties of such structures. After all, everyone wants to find the best option where to cook meat and other products in the heat. Today, the following types of barbecue are distinguished:

  1. Normal.

The usual brazier has a square design. Although they are heavy, they can be carried. It often has removable legs.

  1. Collapsible.

Lightweight and small collapsible option that you can carry in your car. It is more comfortable and easier, and also suitable for hiking in the forest.

  1. Stationary.

Powerful brazier made of metal. It can be based on brick blocks, providing high reliability. Often, such barbecues can be supplemented with steel decorations.

The choice of the type of barbecue is very responsible for its self-construction. Thus, you can decide on the tasks and choose the best option. However, it is recommended to choose the regular type as the most versatile choice for summer residents.

Attention! Braziers can have a different shape. Round, rectangular, curved and other types are noted, the cooking on which may differ slightly.

Drawings of metal barbecues: photos of different types

Before you make the appropriate drawings and choose the dimensions for the future brazier, for the construction you need to choose the best option that is used most often. It is necessary to select the appropriate width and height of the structure, and the appropriate length of the legs. A drawing of a conventional barbecue is provided as follows:

Dimensions given in millimeters. It is clearly visible on it that the total height of the brazier with a leg length of 70 cm and a length of 95 cm. In this case, the depth of the brazier will be 25 cm, which is the optimal distance from the heat to the skewers.

The width of the brazier is 28 cm, which is slightly lower than the average size of a skewer. The length is 54 cm, you need to evenly distribute 9 servings over the heat.

The upper part of the structure is equipped with gaps for skewers. So, you can evenly distribute the meat and fix it freely during rotation, ensuring uniform frying. Moreover, the distance between the gaps should be 6 cm. It is necessary to leave space between the extreme walls and gaps so that the meat does not touch them, and also does not burn.

Excellent breathability is an important nuance. Here it is achieved as a result of holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm, located on the side walls. The holes are located at the bottom of the metal sheet in a checkerboard pattern. They are not needed on the front side walls.

Attention! The presented design does not imply the presence of a pallet and holes at the bottom of the brazier. You can easily fix this by welding small corners to the bottom or legs and selecting the appropriate sheet of metal.

How to prepare the elements of the future design?

Metal sheets act as the basis for the barbecue. We do not recommend using other materials, as the brazier provides sufficient structural resistance to compactness and heat. The thickness of the metal should be approximately 2-3 mm. For work you will need:

  • Two sheets of metal measuring 280x250 mm and 240x250 mm.
  • One sheet of metal 540x280 mm.
  • Corners 700 mm long and four metal pipes.
  • Welding machine.
  • Drill.
  • Roulette.
  • Saw for metal or grinder.

Most people prefer another build option. Different sheets can be replaced with a large metal sheet. By making cuts, you can connect the structure with a small number of welds. Thus, it will turn out to be more reliable.

It is important to consider additional elements if the design differs from the above. It can be completed with a tray, carrying handles, leg recesses and other details.

First of all, you need to perform preliminary markup. Places of welding and fasteners are marked, special gaps are created. For this, a saw or grinder is used. This step also creates air holes.

Attention! Often such a design is made on reinforcing legs. They are unreliable, as the structure will stagger even with minor loads. Therefore, it is better to replace them with corners.

How to weld a brazier with your own hands

Welding is the best solution for the barbecue. It is able to withstand high temperature changes and effective bolting. To do this, use a welding machine, regardless of its type. Then the structure is alternately fixed, and welding is performed at the corners.

Attention! For more convenient welding, it is worth using metal corners along the sides. They can also increase the reliability of the seams, as well as significantly weight the structure.

Then comes the welding of the arms and legs. They are fixed along the sides (corners) or to the bottom of the structure (pipes). It is necessary to weld them securely, since the brazier itself will be quite heavy.

Attention! To fix the legs, you can use not a welding machine, but collapsible elements. Removable legs will significantly reduce the dimensions of the brazier during its storage.

Upon completion of the work, it is necessary to grind the seams, and also check the entire structure for reliability.

Metal barbecues with a canopy: drawings

To cook kebabs in bad weather, you can use a special barbecue design. This allows you to hide the heat and meat from precipitation, but in itself this design is not simple. There are two options here:

  • installation of a canopy directly on the barbecue;
  • installation of an additional canopy, which does not apply to the barbecue.

The latter option will be more rational, as it allows you to hide not only kebabs, but also the person who monitors their preparation. The first option requires additional costs, since the base must withstand the load from the canopy.

In this case, we advise you to mount the structure on metal corners. This is the best option as it makes it easier to assemble. The canvas for the canopy is most often corrugated board. It is refractory, does not react in any way to temperature changes and has a low weight, which is important for a lightweight design.

The assembly of the canopy is not much different from the usual one, and only fire protection and proper placement of the base are required. Thus, you can safely cook food without worrying that you can catch on the armature.

It is worth noting that a metal grill with a canopy is a difficult option that experienced welders can do. Here it is important to create a reliable structure, the weight of which will be evenly distributed on the base. For stationary braziers, such a canopy is much easier to make, since a supporting foundation can be arranged for them.

The structure with a canopy can be decorated with metal elements, as you can see in the photo. This will not only improve the appearance, but also make the canopy more stable and reliable.

Attention! If the roof is low, equip it with a special air duct.

Finished product painting

An important issue in the manufacture of barbecue is painting. It cannot be dispensed with, since the metal used in the structure is subject to rust, and ash and soot do not improve its appearance.

For painting, special compositions are used, to which the following requirements are imposed:

  • heat resistance;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • no harmful fumes.

The following coatings meet these requirements:

  • silicon-organic enamels;
  • heat-resistant paints for various purposes.

It should be noted that painting the barbecue with your own hands is a rather complicated and responsible process. They need special firing, after which they get their properties. Another option is proposed - oxidation. It is quite expensive to execute, but it is possible to make it yourself.

It is better to choose black color for paint. Since there will be a lot of ash and soot nearby, the rest of the coatings will quickly get dirty. On this color, the plaque will be completely invisible.

Attention! Painting should only be done on the outside. Inside, the coating quickly peels off as a result of high heat, and there is no point in this.

Making a brazier with your own hands is quite simple. To do this, you will need a sheet of metal, a welding machine and desire. However, it is worth adhering to the plan and scheme, since in the future any deviations may be reflected in the convenience of its use. But the materials of our site "Remontik", among which drawings of metal barbecues and their photos, as well as videos on manufacturing, will be especially useful, will help to cope with this task.
