Artificial grass on concrete. Artificial turf: types and laying rules. Before purchasing an artificial turf, any person has a question: how is the laying of artificial grass

Most often, artificial turf is used on tennis courts, volleyball courts, children's sports, but also as a landscape design element, artificial turf will perform special functions and look great.

Despite the fact that synthetic turf has long been used on sports fields, and is likely to be used even more in the future, artificial turf near a country house is perceived by many as something inappropriate. However, in some areas there are places where it is impossible to plant natural grass, for example, on the floor in the greenhouse, near the pool, on the terrace. Often in such places they manage with stone or concrete slabs, however, artificial turf looks lighter and more attractive, plants in flowerpots look more natural on it. The coating is made of synthetic material, which means that it does not fade, it can be swept and washed.

Regardless of the purpose of artificial turf, both decorative and special turf should harmoniously fit into the environment and have a beneficial effect on a person.

Advantages and disadvantages of artificial turf

Artificial grass is the best alternative for natural turf playgrounds.

  1. There is no "plastic" shine, which is achieved by a combination of two colors of synthetic fiber, the field is provided with a natural look. And at the same time, artificial turf is allowed to be used around the clock without interruption - while it will not be knocked out or trampled, that is, the playing season can be played throughout the year. Secondly, artificial turf has high wear and frost resistance, it does not fade, it is not afraid of ultraviolet radiation. Elastic blades of grass always maintain a vertical shape. Such grass does not need watering, trimming, or fertilizers.
  2. Excellent playing characteristics - there is no risk of injury to players in the form of scratches and burns, excellent grip of the feet with the surface, natural rolling of the ball and its rebound are provided. Shoes for the game can be used ordinary sports shoes, including those with any kind of spikes. In addition, it is possible to select the characteristics of the lawn to the requirements of players and coaches, the height and density of the pile for various sports is selected in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturers.
  3. It is impossible not to note such a quality as the ability of artificial turf to pass water. Some types of coatings can pass water in the range of 50-60 liters per minute per square meter.

Pile height, stiffness and glide performance of artificial turf may vary depending on the intended use.

The color scheme of artificial turf is not limited to green only, for more effective use in sports, white and yellow are used to mark the playing field, and the markup cuts into the main field, and is not painted. Manufacturers can also offer a red coating option, for example, for tennis.

In winter, a sports field with artificial turf can be filled with water and used as a skating rink, synthetic grass will not change the structure from this.

How to properly install artificial turf

Proper and efficient use of the material will provide a sketch of the future lawn and measurements. Artificial grass needs to be unrolled so that the villi can straighten out during the preparation of the base. You need to make sure that the villi are turned in one direction.

Next, cut the production seam with a sharp construction knife from each side of the roll and position the artificial turf in place so that adjacent strips are as close to each other as possible. The seam can be reinforced with a special tape attached to the base with nails, each time making sure that blades of grass do not stick to the adhesive tape. Roll the seam with a needle roller after the grass strips have adhered to the joint tape. The edges of the artificial turf can be fixed with wooden slats, using glue. For better adhesion of artificial turf to the ground, it must be watered immediately after laying.

Artificial turf care

In order for artificial turf to deliver as little inconvenience as possible during operation, it must be properly laid. Before laying the coating, the soil is carefully smoothed, the surface is cleaned of debris, pebbles, and other objects. If this is not done, then the coating will have an untidy appearance, and even its integrity will be damaged. The base for a permeable coating must be adapted to drain water, so it is always equipped with slopes and drainage channels.

On football fields, to protect athletes from burns when falling, sand and rubber granulate filling is used, on such a surface you can play in boots. On private tennis courts and other playgrounds, only sand filler can be used, but it is not recommended to play on such a surface in shoes with spikes. For landscape design, artificial turf can be used without fillers, since the main thing here is the appearance.

Maintenance of artificial turf requires minimal labor and financial costs, but this does not mean at all that you need to wait for some problems to arise in order to carry out maintenance activities. Scheduled maintenance of synthetic turf will be much more efficient and more economical.

Artificial turf needs to be cleaned periodically, and cleaning can be different, sometimes a simple brush can not cope with all the functions. More aggressive cleaning is used for rubber turf filler. Ideally, cleaning should be performed if the fill material is dislodged in high stress areas such as football pitches, goal posts, or the center. A lower level of fill material will affect ball bounce, etc. Therefore, you need to monitor a uniform level after 10-15 hours of play.

Features of the operation of artificial turf

During heavy rain, puddles can form at the compaction points of both sand and rubber fill, especially this situation can be aggravated if the fill material is contaminated with other organic substances. If the artificial turf is constantly wet, moss may appear on it, the surface will become slippery and dangerous. To prevent this state of the synthetic surface, the surface should be subjected to aggressive cleaning approximately every eight weeks, or more often if light scheduled cleaning was carried out infrequently.

It is important to regularly remove small debris, organic residues, dangerous objects so that the coating is not damaged. The frequency of cleaning should be determined depending on the time of year. Invisible debris is easily removed from the surface with a sweeper.

How often to top up infill on artificial turf will depend on exposure to high winds and snow removal from the pavement during the winter.

To prevent weeds from penetrating into the sandy filling of the field, it is better to treat the adjacent territory with special preparations (herbicides).

In addition to the above maintenance measures for artificial turf, do not forget about the periodic treatment with antibacterial agents, as players can get injured during a fall, and as a result, an infection will get into an open wound.

Artificial turf is beautiful and practical. And if laying decorative grass in the interior usually does not cause problems, then the use of outdoor coverage requires a careful approach at the stage of selection and flooring.

For the street, artificial grass is landscaped, as well as sports. You can choose one or another option based on the intended purpose of the coating. If this is a personal plot and the task of an artificial lawn is to ennoble the territory, then landscape coverage is quite enough. If we are talking about the improvement of sports grounds - football stadiums, tennis courts, golf courses and rugby and other places with heavy traffic, then it is better to give preference to a specialized sports lawn.

How to fix artificial grass

After we have selected the coating according to the technical characteristics, you need to take care of its correct installation. There are several ways to lay and fix the coating. How to fix artificial grass so that it is reliable and safe:

  • Connecting tape 30 cm wide.
  • Profile two-component glue.
  • Staples.

How to attach artificial grass to concrete

Laying on concrete is used on open terraces, balconies or individual areas for landscaping. When laying the coating on a concrete base, a substrate must be used. It will not only make use comfortable, but also protect the lawn from rapid wear when rubbing against the base. This is a special geotextile or a thin layer of porous rubber that can be used together or separately.

The laying technology is quite simple:
  • The concrete base is cleared of debris.
  • Artificial grass is rolled out with an overlap of 15 mm and left for at least a few hours, and ideally for a day for complete straightening.
  • The sheets of the coating are cut end-to-end and glued together with tape and glue.
  • For maximum rigid fixation, the seams are additionally reinforced with staples.
  • The edges of the site are decorated with decorative borders.

How to attach artificial grass to the ground

Laying on the ground most often does not require the use of a substrate, but in some cases it is indispensable. This applies to sports spaces. Since comfort and protection against accidental injury are very important here, it is still better to put on a bed to provide cushioning and maximum protection during falls. Laying the flooring directly on the ground is not a good idea. It is better to fill the site with a mixture of sand and gravel and carefully tamp.

Before fixing the edges of artificial grass, make sure that they fit snugly together and have no gaps. It is best to glue immediately after trimming, so that the coating does not have time to deform under the influence of external temperature.

Part of the game markup can be laid during the production of the coating. But, as a rule, sports stadiums require gluing additional markings in a contrasting color. To do this, at the designated places with the help of a construction knife, a strip of coating of the desired size is cut out. In its place, a connecting tape is laid, which is covered with glue. The marking is fixed with glue and rolled with a roller. It is necessary to ensure that the pile does not get into the joint.

After the glue has dried, the artificial turf should be covered with a layer of quartz sand with a fraction of 0.4-0.6 mm. In order for the layer to be uniform, a special technique is used. Then the lawn is combed and covered with a finishing filler - rubber crumb.

Not every owner of a personal plot has enough time and energy to sow grass and grow a lawn in his yard, and then regularly care for it. But even under such conditions, you can boast of an ideal lawn that will give you maximum aesthetic pleasure and comfort and a minimum of worries. We are talking about the use of artificial grass.

And although the initial cost of buying rolled artificial grass will be higher than buying seeds, in 2-3 years your investment will pay off (after all, natural grass requires expenses for watering, cutting, fertilizing and pesticide treatment). In addition, high-quality artificial turf can last you a long time - about 15 years, and cheaper examples - 3-5 years. You can also save money if you do the laying of artificial turf with your own hands without the help of specialists. It is quite simple and does not require special skills.

  1. Landscaping of a personal plot: artificial grass can be alternated with natural plants - it all depends on the design project and your preferences. You can spread artificial turf around trees, a pool or a gazebo. Also, there will be no difficulty with landscaping steep slopes - fixed with nails, the lawn will hold securely. In the country, artificial turf will be a real salvation in shady areas where it is almost impossible to grow natural grass.
  2. Children's playgrounds: soft and safe surface will create a comfortable environment for kids to play and relax.
  3. Sports grounds for both amateur and professional games.
  4. Decoration of balconies, verandas, summer terraces of houses, cafes, restaurants and studios.
  5. Residential design. You can think over the interior of your house so that there is room for a small green lawn in it, for sure, it will become a favorite resting place for the household.
  6. Design of exhibition stands, interiors of cafes, shops, shopping centers.

Benefits of artificial turf

  1. Artificial turf spreads much faster than natural turf. This does not require special skills or equipment - you will only need to process the joints.
  2. High-quality artificial grass is so similar to the real one that your guests will not recognize the synthetic material either by sight or by touch.
  3. Artificial turf does not need regular mowing, watering and fertilizing. In fact, he almost does not need care at all.
  4. You can use it both outdoors and on the veranda and even indoors.
  5. The composition of the material does not contain harmful chemical components - your lawn will be completely environmentally friendly.
  6. The grass will always look good and will not lose its shape even over time: you can safely walk on it, play sports games or place trestle beds on the lawn for relaxation.
  7. Artificial grass is not attractive to different types of insects, so your lawn will not need to be treated with special chemicals.
  8. The lawn will retain its rich color for many years.
  9. If necessary, the artificial turf can be moved to another place, as you can do with a regular carpet.
  10. Artificial grass is designed in such a way that rainwater (provided that it is properly installed outdoors) easily penetrates into the ground and does not stagnate.
  11. You can choose the height, density and shade of your lawn at your discretion at the time of purchase.
  12. Artificial turf meets all fire safety standards. A smoldering charcoal or a cigarette may damage it, but the fire will not ignite.
  13. Some types of artificial turf (for example, made of polyethylene) can withstand temperatures from +50 to -50 degrees.

Types of artificial grass by purpose

An artificial lawn is created from polymers or plastics. The layer consists of an elastic backing, filler and grass stalks directly, which are sewn into the base.

Before choosing an artificial turf, decide on the function of the site that will be covered with it. On sale you can find artificial turf of several types. They differ, first of all, in their strength, as well as in the density, long and soft pile.

  1. Irresistible lawn. It is an artificial grass designed for landscape decoration. It has improved aesthetic and tactile characteristics: it cannot be distinguished from natural lawn even by touch. However, the material performs only a decorative function: if you walk on it, it will quickly lose its qualities.
  2. Semi-filled lawn. The grass is made of special elastic polyethylene. This type of coating is ideal for a country lawn, playground and interior design. The grass is very beautiful, soft and very functional - it can withstand constant walking on it. On such a lawn it will be nice to relax on a warm summer day or play ball with a child. During the installation of such a coating, it is possible to refuse the use of crushed stone, which greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of creating a lawn on a personal plot, and also allows it to be used indoors.
  3. Backfill lawn. Artificial turf for sports games is made of polypropylene. It may not be as beautiful as a lawn for decorating landscapes and indoors, but it meets the requirements for strength and increased wear resistance. The pile of artificial turf for sports is denser, and most importantly, more rigid. When installing such a coating, an additional lower layer of rubber crumb is used, as well as crushed stone. The strength of the coating will allow you to constantly hold any sports meetings on it: golf, football, rugby, field hockey. Another advantage of artificial grass equipped sports fields is that they do not slip, even if you decide to play the game right after the rain.

The most popular color for artificial turf is, of course, green. Manufacturers offer grass of different shades to the market, but the most natural look is the coating, painted at the same time in several shades of green. Especially for installation on tennis courts, there is a lawn of red or brown color. For football fields, a white and yellow lawn is produced - it is used to create the markings of a sports ground.

How to lay artificial turf: detailed instructions

  1. First of all, plan the site, calculate the required number of square meters of lawn and draw up a drawing of its laying.
  2. Grass can be mounted both on a solid base (concrete or asphalt), and on soil covered with sand and gravel.
  3. Ground preparation:
  • evenly remove the top layer of soil (about 5-8 cm);
  • so that the edges of the site do not crumble, they should be strengthened with a wooden lath;
  • lay geotextiles 0.8-1 cm thick on the soil surface (this is a permeable material that will prevent subsidence of the base);
  • pour fine gravel, evenly distribute it with a rake and compact (this layer can be omitted if you are making a lawn on a personal plot intended for your family to relax);
  • pour a layer of coarse sand and compact it;
  • level the entire surface of the base (for this you can use a hand roller);
  • mount the second layer of geotextile, fixing it with nails (150 mm).
  1. Roll out the artificial turf rolls according to your drawing and allow the material to rest for 3 to 10 hours. This is necessary so that the lawn straightens out after being rolled up.
  2. While the lawn is laying down, trim the edges of the material that are free of lint.
  3. If you need to join several rolls of artificial turf, first lay the rolls with a 15 mm overlap and then trim them slightly so that the joints match up.
  4. Before you start gluing, make sure that the material is laid evenly and all parts of the lawn fit snugly together.
  5. Glue the artificial grass fragments together with a connecting sheet (width 250 - 300 mm) and a special two-component adhesive. To calculate the required amount of glue, keep in mind that about 500 g of glue is needed per 1 linear meter of the canvas.
  • unscrew the edges of the lawn so that it is possible to evenly spread out the connecting (seam) tape;
  • the junction of the two parts of the lawn should be in the middle of the tape;
  • apply glue to the tape (usually this is done with a spatula);
  • do not make the adhesive layer too thick so that it does not subsequently soak out;
  • avoid getting glue on the pile of grass;
  • lower the edges of the canvases and press them to the tape;
  • for better bonding, it is preferable to process the joints with a hand roller.

  1. If you are installing a coating for a sports ground, then after gluing the main seams, proceed to gluing the markings (for this, artificial turf inserts of a different color are used).
  • cut strips 10 cm wide in the lawn;
  • remove trim;
  • cut the lawn cloth of a different color into even strips 10 cm wide;
  • lay the connecting tape and apply glue, as you did when gluing the joints of the lawn sheets;
  • lay out the marking line and press it to the tape;
  • make sure that glue does not get on the pile of grass;
  • Treat the gluing points with a hand roller.
  1. If you are laying artificial grass in your backyard, trim the lawn to fit the shape of the lawn, create cuts if necessary for future flower beds and more.
  2. Secure the lawn around the perimeter with nails (150mm). Drive nails at a distance of 20 - 30 cm from each other. To do this, push the pile so that the nail head is pressed against the substrate. And then straighten the pile to hide the nail heads.
  3. The edges of the lawn, if necessary, can be decorated with skirting boards or a border.

  1. After your lawn is laid, proceed to the final stage of installation - backfilling with sand. To do this, use coarse quartz sand (fraction 0.3 - 0.6 mm). The amount of material needed will depend on the area and type of artificial grass.
  • backfilling with sand is carried out only in dry weather;
  • spread the sand evenly over the surface of the artificial turf;
  • comb the lawn so that the sand sinks inside.

How to care for artificial turf

Proper maintenance of artificial grass will extend its lifespan by years. You don't need any special tools for this. Actually, it doesn't take much time either.

  1. Remove fallen leaves from the cover with a light rake. In the fall, try to clean regularly to maintain the quality of the lawn.
  2. Weeds rarely break through artificial turf: geotextiles prevent their growth. However, if the weed does grow, simply remove it as you would on a regular lawn.
  3. Brush the lawn once every 1-2 weeks to evenly distribute the infill and raise the artificial turf pile.
  4. Once every six months - a year, replenish the backfill cover - this will avoid wear and tear on the lawn.
  5. Do not walk on artificial turf in dirty shoes with the remnants of damp earth or natural grass.
  6. If there are dirt on the lawn, they can be removed manually or with the help of water pressure.
  7. There are special vacuum cleaners for cleaning leaves from the lawn. If the budget allows you to purchase such a device, it will greatly facilitate the process of caring for artificial turf.
  8. Be aware that smoldering charcoal or a cigarette can damage the coating.
  9. Do not walk on the lawn in sneakers with spikes.
  10. Avoid chewing gum on artificial grass as it will be difficult to remove.
  11. Do not remove snow and ice from the lawn: on frosty days, the grass pile hardens and is easily damaged. Wait for the positive temperature for cleaning.

If, however, there was damage to the coating - do not despair. The damaged fragment can be cut out and replaced with a new one. In doing so, follow all the necessary instructions for laying artificial turf.

Lawn cover is considered the basis for creating landscape design. But, growing and, importantly, providing excellent care for natural types of lawn is not easy (as you can see here - how to care for a lawn). Therefore, most summer residents today opt for artificial turf.

Laying artificial turf

Artificial turf is a surface consisting of a polypropylene base, to which green-colored synthetic fibers with a silicone coating are attached only vertically.

The easiest way to get a beautiful front lawn

Of course, you have seen the perfect lawn in the movies, on the alley, and perhaps on the neighbor's lawn. Those who have ever tried to grow a green area in their area will no doubt say that this is a huge job. The lawn requires careful planting, care, fertilization, watering. However, only inexperienced gardeners think so, professionals have long known about the innovative tool - liquid turf AquaGrazz.

There are the following types of artificial surfaces:

  • backfill- this type is used when it is necessary to obtain the maximum performance of the base and minimize injuries during falls;
  • sleepless- it is mainly used for decorating landscape design;

Completed front lawn

  • semi-filled- is considered the golden mean between the above types of coatings. It is used for both sports and children's playing field. (Here you can see other types of lawns).

Advantages and scope

Compared with a natural lawn, the artificial type has the following advantages:

  1. high strength and long service life, so it is not afraid of constant loads. The artificial type does not trample down moisture and always has an excellent appearance;
  2. ease of care - no need to fertilize or water this type of lawn;
  3. turf can be used throughout the year. At the same time, you can be convinced by looking here - how to lay a rolled lawn, that this is a fairly easy process;
  4. base water permeability;
  5. huge selection of color palette and so on.

Now consider the scope of its application. Such grass is in most cases used for landscaping a summer cottage. Some summer residents alternate it with natural plants - the result is an elegant design project that you can experiment with. You can lay it near plants or garden buildings - a pool or gazebos. You can also see how we decorate the lawn in front of the house with the help of such an artificial lawn.

They are also used for arranging children's playgrounds. The result is a soft and at the same time very safe surface where kids can play comfortably. For decoration of a balcony, veranda, summer terrace of a building or in a cemetery.

Installed rolls of artificial grass

Its scope does not end there. Today, designers of an artificial type of grass are using it in the design of a living space. Create a corner in your apartment with a small graceful lawn. Design of exhibition stands, interiors of cafes, shops, shopping centers.

Stages of laying artificial turf on the street

Artificial grass laying technology:

  • Leveling the ground. We lay any roll on leveled soil. But it has to be slanted.
  • Soil compaction. Then we compact the base with a roller.
  • Formation of a drainage ditch. The coating is not afraid of precipitation, however, the soil under it can rot if a drainage base is not installed. On vast territories, we dig trenches along the edges, where the liquid will begin to drain.
  • Placement of the substrate with the lawn. The entire area must be covered with a substrate, and a roll is rolled on top. We overlap any of the rows with the previous one by 1.5 cm.
  • aging. We leave the base to rest for about 11 hours. During this period of time, it will straighten out, irregularities will disappear and the blades of grass will become vertical.
  • Attaching one roll to another. We glue the rolls after we cut the edges, so you will be able to maintain the linear dimensions of the sheets, which usually occur due to daily changes in air temperature. We glue one canvas to another with a connecting tape with a two-component adhesive. The tape should have a width of 280 mm. And the glue is applied with a width of 250 mm. As a result, approximately 350–550 g/r.m. of glue is consumed.

Artificial option for arranging football fields

We glue the rolls like this:

  1. turn off the edges of the rolls, lay the ribbons so that the joints of the canvases are in the middle of the ribbons;
  2. apply glue to the tape with a spatula or special tools, raise any fibers of artificial grass that have fallen into the seam until the period when the glue seizes;
  3. lower the edges of the rolls and firmly press them to the connecting tapes;
  4. at the end, we roll any seams with a roller.

When laying an artificial lawn for a football field, care should be taken to apply markings. If you have not stuck all the marking lines on the field, you need to sew in the marking line on it. These works are carried out only after the complete gluing of the artificial turf has taken place.

In order to sew in the marking line, we need to cut out the strips, the width of which is about 10 cm, inside the field with a special device that has a double blade, in order to prepare the area for sewing in the markings, put the connecting tape inside, apply glue to the connecting tapes with a spatula or a special tool, carefully way you need to lay out the marking lines. Care must be taken to ensure that there is no glue on the fibers of the marking line, so you can avoid dyeing the colored fibers of the marking.

  • Forming a curb. We glue the curb to the edges of the lawn.
  • Backfilling with sand and granulate. The amount and fraction of sand is determined depending on the type of artificial grass. We fill the lawn only when the weather is dry. Then we comb the top with a rake and pour rubber granulate. We remove all the garbage and our field is ready.

Bonding one roll to another

But keep in mind the following important point: we unload a roll with a synthetic type of coating for a football field very carefully (here you can see the types of lawns for a football field). The best device for unloading the roll is a forklift, which has an attachment like a pin. The pin must have a length of at least three meters and a diameter of not more than 10 centimeters. The use of a device with a pitchfork can damage the lawn.

grass care

In areas with low loads, artificial grass will require almost no maintenance. A couple of times during the week it will be necessary to clean it from accumulated dust with plastic brushes. In particular, such a fact is interesting that the more and more actively the coating is applied, the longer it will retain a beautiful appearance. It turns out that with maximum use, the possibility of clogging holes between the villi with debris decreases, and the possibility of weed germination decreases.

The final stage - seam processing

Artificial grass of the highest quality with small loads can please for 15 years, while retaining its original appearance. More affordable types of grass cannot compete with excellent quality types, and you can use them to the maximum - about 4 years.

Green grass is popular in landscape design. It creates an original area full of freshness and beauty. However, green spaces are not always justified: they require attention, favorable climatic conditions, good black soil. Laying artificial turf helps to solve a complex issue.

Areas of application of artificial turf

The coating has the same aesthetic appearance as natural landscaping. But the owners will require minimal effort to care and ensure comfort. Artificial turf looks well-groomed for a long time, regardless of the season or daylight hours.

  • in miniature areas of the greenhouse, greenhouse, in the botanical garden;
  • as a finishing finish for building structures: loggias, balconies, terraces;
  • near the outdoor swimming pool;
  • near the local area to hide the defect of the site;
  • on children's playgrounds to ensure safety;
  • on football fields;
  • with a decorative purpose in commercial structures: shops, summer cafes, exhibitions, shopping centers, offices.

Key Benefits of Using Artificial Grass

Artificial grass has many positive properties:

  • Retains performance in any weather: frost-resistant, does not fade in the sun, fresh in the shade.
  • Does not require watering, mowing, does not need top dressing.
  • Lawn grass withstands heavy loads and does not deform: it is not easy to crush or trample it.
  • The product is waterproof. It is suitable for decorating natural plants and shrubs.
  • The springy layer creates safety during falls.
  • Synthetic fiber is environmentally friendly. It does not emit harmful substances and is easy to clean.
  • Provides speed of change of appearance and simplicity of installation. You can lay artificial turf in a matter of hours.
  • Does not adversely affect the soil.
  • A wide range of colors allows you to diversify landscape design, make markings on sports fields.
  • The ability to choose the right coverage depending on the height, density, density of the grass.
  • Artificial turf is suitable for a winter skating rink: it only needs to be filled with water at sub-zero temperatures.
  • The durability of the product allows it to be used for a long time without loss of quality.
  • The coating is not destroyed by insects and pests.

A variety of artificial grass

Depending on the purpose of use, artificial turf can be landscape and special. It decorates the site or serves as a cover in places of active recreation. Modern production technologies make it possible to make it an exact copy of natural greenery. Despite the identical appearance, polymer products differ from each other in properties. There are several types of material.

Non-filling canvas

This species has a high fidelity imitation of real grass. Sometimes it is even difficult to see significant differences. The product has aesthetic qualities. It serves only for decoration. Walking on it is not recommended, as skillfully made blades of grass, between which there is an empty space, can be crushed and lose their beauty.

The prototype of the bulk structure is an English lawn with emerald, evenly cut natural greenery. This is a classic, ceremonial version, which at first was used only behind the high walls of English castles. It still continues to fulfill its aesthetic functions. For the cultivation of velvety grass, the canons of agricultural craftsmanship are used with high requirements for the selection of plants and their care.

Floral canvas

This type of artificial turf is a kind of bulk canvas. It can be used as a separate version of the decorative coating. It harmoniously combines grass and flowers, industrially attached to the material. The effect of a real lawn is created, near which it is appropriate to have picnics.

Semi-filled lawn

The artificial turf is made of polyethylene threads on a rubber backing. Between the villi is quartz sand - a material that makes the structure durable and stable. The carpet is soft, so it is ideal for sports and children's playgrounds with active activities, tennis courts.

backfill view

The cover is made of polypropylene, which is sprinkled with sand and special rubber granulate. The carpet has maximum performance characteristics, special strength and rigidity. It minimizes bruises during falls, eliminates slipping, therefore it is used in places with high physical exertion.

Rules for choosing an artificial turf

A wide range of products makes it difficult to choose the right flooring option. It is produced in the form of rolls and plates, which determines the method of laying. Each manufacturer is trying to attract buyers with a variety of models that differ from each other in shades and properties of blades of grass.

Experts advise you to familiarize yourself with the samples presented in the store and their technical characteristics before buying and laying the lawn. First of all, you need to pay attention to several parameters.

The color of the grass that affects the emotional mood of a person.

Appearance, material quality. A hard shiny pile indicates that the product is of increased strength, and may be from an inexpensive budget line. It is better to decorate personal plots with such a coating.

deck height and thickness. Long villi qualitatively imitate the original, mask defects better than low grass, therefore they are more suitable for jewelry. It is more practical to equip the area intended for walking with a low pile carpet.

In addition to the flooring, a filler is purchased - rubber crumb and quartz sand. Materials are needed for additional fixation of the product and additional protection in dangerous situations.

Laying technology

When laying an artificial lawn, special knowledge, skills, and abilities are not needed. Installing carpet is pretty easy. It can be done independently by laying the flooring on the ground, asphalt or concrete base. The main thing is to accurately correlate the area with the dimensions of the roll when planning. All work is divided into stages.

Stage #1

Site preparation for installation. It should be clean and smooth, without cavities:

  • First, weeds and debris are removed.
  • The horizontal position is checked by a level or a stretched string.
  • If necessary, soil is poured, which is compacted with a rammer, vibrating plate, roller or heavy log.
  • If the deck is laid on a concrete base, the platform should be slightly sloped to catch storm water.
  • It is not recommended to lay the lawn on sand, as it is loose and unstable.

Stage #2

Before laying the lawn, it is important to create drainage ditches. They allow you to avoid the accumulation of rain and melt water under the coating, which must be quickly discharged to a certain distance and depth. To do this, trenches or a multi-layer crushed stone substrate are made along the edges of the site.

Stage 3

Laying regulations require a special substrate for asphalt pavement. This is an elastic material up to 1 cm thick. It is undesirable to use too thin bedding, as it can create bumps.

Stage 4

The main goal of preparing for installation is that artificial grass should fit snugly to the ground:

  • To do this, the rolls are rolled out so that the blades of grass lean in one direction.
  • The canvas should lie down for two days. This will help eliminate the existing deformation of the villi.
  • Before gluing rows of lawn, it is necessary to check the surface for wrinkles, swellings, irregularities.

Stage number 5

An important technological stage is the installation of a grass cloth. It is best done immediately after trimming the edges:

  1. The laying of artificial turf is carried out end-to-end or overlap by 15 mm if the surface is uneven.
  2. The edges of the material are trimmed with a clerical knife or scissors.
  3. The distance between the lawn cloths should be no more than 1 mm.
  4. The edges are fastened with a connecting tape 25–30 cm wide and a two-component adhesive, according to the instructions for the product.
  5. The adhesive composition is applied with a notched trowel onto a flexible latex base, which is placed under the edges of adjacent rolls with the mounting side up and covered with a coating.
  6. It is unacceptable for the adhesive to get on the fibers of the artificial turf.
  7. The resulting seams are pressed with a roller or some heavy object.
  8. Large-sized lawn cloths are additionally fastened with special staples.

Stage #6

At the end, the lawn is sprinkled with quartz sand and rubber granules using a backfill or semi-backfill coating option. The amount of fraction depends on the type of grass. The recommended thickness is up to 0.6 mm. Such work must be done in dry weather, evenly distributing bulk material over the surface. This can be done manually or with equipped machines. In order for the sand to settle deeper into the grass, it is leveled with a rake, seeders or brooms.

Artificial turf does not require special care:

  • Once every six months, it is enough to add granules.
  • Remove debris from time to time with nylon brushes or garden vacuums.
  • Immediately collect leaves and branches that have fallen from trees so that they do not get tangled with grass.
  • Eliminate sprouted weeds.
  • Humidify the lawn abundantly during the hot period.
  • Once every two weeks, water the grass with water to achieve good adhesion of the lawn to the soil.
  • Periodically pierce the coating to create aeration.
  • In areas where children and animals walk, it is advisable to clean using disinfectants.
  • Carry out timely repair work in case of violation of the seam fastenings of the lawn.

Proper maintenance of artificial grass extends its lifespan.
