What to hang curtains on and how to fix them? How to hang curtains - choosing a cornice, types of fasteners and the best curtain design options (101 photos) Hanging curtains

In order to successfully decorate the interior of a house or apartment, great attention should be paid not only to the choice of curtains, but also to the selection of a cornice. After all, the overall interior of the room depends on it.

There is a wide range of curtains on the market today. They are distinguished by texture, design, color and much more. And for everyone you need to choose a certain cornice, because this is exactly what curtains are hung on.

The material used to make

To know how to hang curtains correctly, you should determine exactly which curtain rods are suitable for each type of curtain and what material they are made of. For the production of cornices, materials such as natural wood, plastic, metal, bamboo are used.

wooden cornices

These cornices have qualities such as reliability and presentability. Due to their high mechanical strength, they can be used for heavy curtains. Their price is quite high, as it is a natural material.

Plastic as a material for cornices

Plastic curtain rods are quite popular among consumers due to their low price and a variety of colors. Installing them is pretty easy. These cornices have additional flexibility, which allows you to make the design of a variety of configurations. But due to their low mechanical strength, they cannot be used when using heavy curtains.

Metal for the manufacture of cornices

Metal cornices are perfect when using massive curtains of extremely heavy construction.

Forged metal structures are suitable for expensive curtains in a classic style interior. Their weight is quite large, so the fastening should be carried out by a specialist. The cost is quite high.

They are especially popular. Possessing a fixation function, they allow you to fix a variety of decors (lambrequins), curtains, tulles at the required height and set the required width.

bamboo cornices

This species is only gaining popularity. It is used in eco-style, where natural materials are used.

Varieties of cornices according to the method of manufacture

  • String cornices.
  • Baguette cornices.

In string cornices, a metal string is used, which is not recommended for use in rooms where humidity is high. This can be a little inconvenient when using them. To avoid various troubles, taking into account the moment where and what the curtains are hung on, the metal is coated with a special coating.

Baguette cornices are considered more popular and widely used. They are quite easy to install and more practical.

Eaves fasten both on a ceiling, and on a wall - depending on at what height to hang up curtains.

They can also be fixed regardless of the surface.

Forms of cornices

To choose the right cornice for the room, you need to take into account the shape of the cornice. They have a round shape, embossed and baguette. Cornices can be of a profile type, with a telescopic device, as well as cornices used when attaching blinds or Roman blinds.

When using single-row cornices, one row of window textiles is supposed to be placed. On two-row cornices, you can hang both a curtain and a curtain, or two other details for the window, as long as they are combined with each other. Three-row cornices can be used to accommodate several types of curtains, as well as curtains or other textiles.

If we consider for curtains, we can conclude that their installation is almost the same for all types of curtains. Only it is necessary to take into account the features of the installation of each eaves.

Curtain rods for roller blinds

Considering the question of how to hang roller blinds, you need to consider the principle of using this type of curtain. They have a variety of mounting options and a huge selection of colors. Using the instructions, you can independently install roller blinds.

For them, open and closed types of fastening are used. When choosing a mounting option, you should take into account some of the nuances. With the help of certain types of fixation, you can achieve a visual increase in space, create a certain atmosphere of the room. It is also protection from the sun and different weather conditions. You just need to know what type of fastening is suitable for a particular type of window.

With the help of an open type of fixation, curtains can be fixed both above the window and in the window opening itself. They are installed, as a rule, if there are plastic windows in the room.

After all, there is nothing easier than hanging. The presence of multi-purpose mechanisms allows you to use it in other elements. There are several types of open fixation cornices: mini, standard and attic. The first type of fastening (mini) is suitable if you need to close the sash or frame. The second is fixed above the window. If the window has a complex shape, the third type (attic) will do. The structure and operation of the mechanism are almost the same in all types of fastening: using 2 holders, the shaft is fixed and the curtain is wound around it. Roller curtains are controlled by a special chain or spring mechanism. For the spring mechanism, the holder must be installed on the bar below. To lower the curtain, you need to pull the holder down, fixing it at the desired level. To raise the curtains, you need to pull down to unlock the system, and then release.

The fastening system is usually fixed with double-sided mounting tape, the disadvantage of which is that it can melt in hot weather.

You can use a hanger mount, but it is not suitable for all types of frames. The easiest option is to mount with screws or self-tapping screws.

The size of the shaft diameter will depend on the width and dimensions of the curtains.

Closed systems vary in size. But this does not affect the functionality and its attractive appearance. This type of fastening is distinguished by the presence of a box - parts with side plugs. Thanks to this detail, the mount looks neat and elegant. A strong shaft and a large box are essential for using large roller blinds.

In the case of fastening an overall roll structure, the mechanism may not fit above the window. Then it can be attached to the ceiling of a room or opening. Only in this case it will not be possible to use guides.

To avoid deformation of the curtain fabric, to ensure the correct movement of the system, to prevent the curtain from moving, it is strongly recommended to install guides whenever possible.

Curtains on tape

One of the types of curtains is tape curtains. How to hang correctly so that they look original and neat on the ledge?

First, you need to pull the ends of the threads that are located along the line of the curtain tape from one edge and tie them into one knot. Since the tape is of different types, the number of threads on it can be from two to five pieces. We also tighten the second edge of the tape in the same way. If the curtains were sewn in the salon, the threads may already be tied. Then you need to pull the threads so that the curtain tape is equal to the length of the cornice, fixing the tightened threads with a knotted knot. Then smooth out the folds that formed on the tape. And the curtain can already be hung on the eaves by attaching hooks to it, at a uniform distance from each other, approximately 0.1 m.

Roman curtains

For complex window openings, if for some reason it is not possible to use ordinary curtains, a Roman blind can be used. How to hang and how to choose the right cornice for her so that there are no problems later?

Roman blinds have a beautiful appearance and are a piece of curtain fabric with evenly divided parts. With the help of rigid rods, the fabric rises, folding in even rows. To fix the canvas, a special bar is sewn from below. With the help of a special chain, you can raise and fix the curtain at the desired distance. This is the principle of operation of Roman blinds. Only for such curtains a special type of cornice is needed, which has features compared to other types of cornices. It is not difficult to use, even if the openings are irregularly shaped (arch or trapezoid). For Roman blinds, you need to use a cornice with manual or electric mechanisms. It consists of a metal profile, a plumb line for the web, a lifting mechanism, a chain, a pulling element, Velcro and hooks. For Roman blinds, fabrics can be used, both ultra-light and fairly dense, depending on what the curtains are hung on.

Today there is a huge selection of different options for Roman blinds, and choosing the right one will not be difficult. Cornices for this type of curtains have a fairly high price. Having decided to install them, you should not buy a more economical option. After all, the type of curtains themselves depends on how the lifting mechanism will work. When buying a cornice, it is good that it has a chain control, not a rope one.

When figuring out what curtains are hung on and choosing a suitable cornice, you need to consider some rules for interior design. For the classic style of the room, wood or wood-like cornices are suitable.

When decorating an interior in an oriental style, it is recommended to use bamboo cornices or Japanese curtains. The use of chrome and nickel-plated round cornices is suitable for a high-tech room.

Curtains are the main highlight in the design of any interior, so it is very important not only to skillfully choose the color, texture of the material and style, but also to hang them effectively. You don’t like bulky and pompous baguettes, or just a couple of centimeters are not enough to install them, or maybe you have an arched or non-standard window?

Whatever the reason, curtains need to be hung somehow to complete the design of the room. In this case, very original, sometimes even eccentric ways of attaching curtains without cornices will come to your aid.

Curtains are the main element of decor in our home, which can significantly affect both the interior itself and the impression of the owners. Everyone knows that any apartment or house can be visually transformed with a skillful color scheme and some decorative elements. And the curtains are no exception, because the overall picture of the perception of the interior depends on how you can design the places of its fastening in an original way.

A few ideas and tips on how to quickly and effectively hang curtains or curtains without cornices:

With hooks

Get the right size hooks or original holders, they must be reliable and in harmony with the chosen interior style.

Calculate the distance between them correctly so that the canvas does not sag, forming unplanned folds. Above the window opening, firmly fix the selected holders.

On the curtain itself, be sure to sew longitudinal tapes or make loops. This will allow you to hang it easily and securely.

Such a point mount is ideal for decorating non-standard and arched windows, this is the case when it is unrealistic to install a regular cornice.

There are also disadvantages to this method of window design - the curtain does not move. But it is easily solved with the help of side pickups, which will help not only let the sun's rays into the room, but also add zest to the interior. After all, they can be decorated in a very original way, giving a bizarre shape to the curtains themselves.

With the help of Velcro tape (in the common people - Velcro)

Get the correct length of tape. Attach one part of it to the wall or window frame in any of the following ways:

1. Fix part of the tape directly on the wall using a construction stapler, self-tapping screws or screws. If this is a metal-plastic window, then use double-sided tape.

The design looks very stylish if you make separate curtains for each sash of the window frame.

2. You can attach one piece of Velcro to the bar to be fixed on the wall with furniture staples, self-tapping screws or wood glue.

Attach the second half of the tape from the inside of the canvas. In this way it is very convenient to hang curtains, you do not have to hang under the ceiling for hours trying to get into the loop with a hook. With a slight movement of the hand, we connect both strips of Velcro and that's it - the curtain is in place.

This method is even suitable for fixing curtains to the ceiling.

This type of attachment also has weaknesses, it is impractical in two cases - you have very heavy and long curtains, or there are kids in the house who are just learning to walk, as well as cats. Because such a plan, the cornice is extremely unreliable under physical impact.

With a tree branch or thick rope

A very unusual and creative way to hang a curtain for lovers of naturalness in interior design.
When going out into nature, stock up on several strong, original-shaped branches of the desired length. Remove dust and dirt, sand too disheveled places and open with varnish or paint. Using any holders, fix the prepared branch on the wall.

Starting a renovation in a new apartment or simply changing the style in a room, special attention is paid to window framing. There are many options for blackout and decorations - curtains, curtains, blinds, and they all need to be attached to something, which is also an important element. What curtains are hung on is called a cornice. It can be made to order according to an individual design or purchased at any home improvement store.

Varieties

Cornices are designed to support curtains, embodying also decorative functions in the interior of any style. But before choosing the right cornice, you need to carefully measure everything, take into account the location and shape of the window, the weight and type of curtains, and the style of the interior. There are the following types of cornices.

According to the method of fastening

  • Ceiling. Fastened to the ceiling with screws, consists of a profile and guides, most often made of aluminum or plastic. A huge plus is that it can be attached no matter how much space from the ceiling to the window.

  • Wall. A classic look that is attached to the wall with special brackets. For the manufacture of such cornices, plastic, metal or natural wood is used. The advantage is the variety of designs.

By appearance

  • Barbell. A traditional wall cornice in the form of a rod with several guides, on which curtains, tulle and lambrequins can be placed simultaneously. The fabric is hung mainly on the fasteners-rings, which easily walk along the bar, without hindering their movement. The stem, tips and main holders are available in a variety of colours, shapes and designs, such as modern style.

  • Baguette. Flat cornice, which can be fixed both to the wall and to the ceiling. The hidden plastic rail makes the fasteners and the top of the curtain invisible, the folds are even. The edges of the base can be chosen with a rounding and placed on the entire wall, such a solution makes the frame seem to be one with the wall, it looks neat and stylish. Most often made of plastic, which makes it light and inexpensive, and is selected in accordance with the desired color, texture or ornament.

  • Eaves-string. It has a stretched metal cable between the holders, which are attached to the wall or ceiling. Used to accommodate light fabrics - tulle, organza, nylon. Do not hang heavy curtains on such a cornice, as over time the string may sag. Often used in the kitchen.

According to the guide system

  • Flexible. A narrow cornice, which is used both for standard windows and for non-standard shapes - arch, attic, bay windows and triangular windows, their base is polymer-metal.

  • Telescopic. It is spacer with a sliding bar. It is installed when it is not possible to attach to the ceiling or walls. When fixing it, drilling of the walls is not required, since there is a spacer mechanism with a spring inside the base. Often such cornices can be observed in bathtubs.

  • profile. It is universal, as it can have different lengths and widths. At the base there are guides for runners, they can be mounted both on the wall and on the ceiling. Well suited for a loft or Scandinavian style, because if you match the color of the walls, they will be almost invisible. They are very fashionable at the moment.

By material

  • Metal. Mostly aluminum is used.
  • Wooden. From birch, pine, walnut or beech.
  • Plastic.

Also, all guides or rods are single-level, two-level or three-level, depending on how many layers of curtains are used.

Other types

Unlike standard types of cornices, there are a number of variations that are either modernized or additionally equipped.

  • Auto. It is based on a profile cornice with a built-in mechanism, with the help of which the curtains move apart in different directions or in one direction. The mechanism can be controlled by pulling the handle or by pressing the button on the remote control, then an electric drive is still required here.

  • Lifting for Roman blinds. A lifting mechanism with a rotary-chain or cord control is built into the eaves. By pulling the handle, you can raise the curtains into a pleat.
  • For Japanese curtains. There are several guides in such a cornice, since Japanese curtains look like stretched canvas blocks that move apart on rollers, standing up for each other. Attached to the ceiling.

  • On furniture handles. A more decorated option, curtains on such a cornice are attached with loops or rings. The extension of the curtains is not provided.
  • Velcro. Another option for attaching curtains, usually from lightweight fabrics. The convenience is that the curtains are easy to unfasten for washing, but the minus is that the curtains cannot be moved apart. Ideal for slanted windows. One side of the Velcro is glued to the ceiling or wall, and the other side is sewn to the curtain.

Styles of cornices

Since the cornice with window framing is part of the style in the interior, then on sale you can find exactly the one that emphasizes the peculiarity of the room:

  • minimalism, hi-tech, loft - strings or metal rods are ideal;
  • classic style - wooden cornices-rods and baguettes with traditional patterns;
  • rustic style - rod cornices with forged tips and brackets (wooden or metal);
  • Japanese, Roman style - aluminum cornices;
  • modern - round cornices with large rings or eyelets.

How to choose the size?

The cornice can be positioned in size relative to the window or in the width of the entire wall. Sometimes there are several windows on one wall and one continuous cornice is installed on the entire wall. You should also consider where the mount will be installed and what type of cornice is chosen for the room. If the cornice is a rod, then one should not forget that they have decorative tips, which, if the calculation is incorrect, may not fit. If a profile cornice is chosen, then it should also be taken into account that if a cornice with roundings is chosen, then the main part must be shorter than the required length. The length of the brackets should also be taken into account if there is a water pipe on the wall.

How to install correctly?

To install a wall-mounted cornice-rod, you need to measure the length of the rod and guides and make parallel marks on the walls for drilling holes for attaching the bracket. Next, drill two holes at a right angle. We drive dowels with a diameter like the resulting hole and a length of 5-6 centimeters. We fasten with screws the fasteners for the brackets, after which we insert the brackets, and in them there is already a barbell with rings or clamps already put on.

To install a plastic ceiling cornice, you need to measure the location on the ceiling, assemble all the components, mark future holes on the ceiling. Drill holes, insert dowels of the required size. Attach the cornice, fasten with screws.

Types of curtain fasteners

When the base is already selected, you should choose the fasteners of the curtains, which are also diverse both in functionality and design.

  • Rings. They can be of different sizes, colors and materials. They are attached to the fabric with hooks that are tied with ribbons or sewn on. Used on a cornice bar. Easily slide, which makes the movement of the curtains easy.
  • Hooks. They are threaded into the guides of the cornice, and a curtain is attached to the lower part. There are hooks for rings.
  • Clamps. They are threaded into the guides, but can also come complete with rings. They come in different sizes and shapes and are very easy to use.
  • Eyelets. The rings that are located on the curtains themselves - in the upper part, where the cornice rod is threaded, the diameter of the rings must match the diameter of the rod.
  • Loops. They are used only for rod cornices, as they are tied to the base. They are sewn to the curtain, usually chosen in the color of the curtains or the same fabric.

Choosing curtains is not easy, as well as what to hang the selected curtains on.

When buying this element of the interior, it is necessary to take into account the situation, the interior in the room, flooring, textile design.

Curtains should connect all the elements in the room into a single whole.

Hanging curtains correctly is an art. The general appearance of the room depends on which curtain fastening element, method of fastening, fasteners to choose.

Modern production offers a wide selection of fasteners for paintings. They differ in the material from which they are made, design, method of fastening, shape.

The following types of cornices are presented:

  • Rod cornice. It is made from any material: metal, wood, plastic. You need to fix it with special brackets. Such a cornice can have several rows, which makes it possible to hang tulle, a heavy canvas, and a lambrequin at the same time. The height of the rows may vary;
  • Eaves-string. Such a cornice can be single-row, multi-row. Curtains sewn from tulle, organza, nylon, nylon, and other light fabrics are attached to it. On a special tape, hooks are attached to each other at an equal distance, after which the tulle is hooked onto a string;
    baguette cornices. Their design is such that the place of attachment of the canvas on the window is hidden. The covering of the cornice can be decorated in different colors, textures. Such fasteners must be selected after the repair in the room is completely done so that the baguette is in harmony with the interior of the room. Baguettes can be installed at different heights so that tulle and curtains make up a harmonious composition;
  • profile cornices. The design has grooves for runners. You can install such cornices on the ceiling, on the wall;
  • Flexible polymer-metal cornices. This type is best suited for installation on bay windows, corner niches;
  • Telescopic eaves. They are installed thanks to spacers - internal springs that are inside the bar. They are installed in places where it is undesirable to make holes in the wall: bath, doorways.

If the curtains consist of one or two sheets, you can use a regular cornice. But most often curtains are chosen for rooms, which include tulle or lambrequin.

Fixing them on one rod or string, it will be impossible to move and push them apart.

Depending on the type, number of curtains, the functional purpose of the room, the interior, one or another design is chosen for attaching curtains.

Today, many houses have plastic windows. In this regard, the question arises, what kind of fixing cornices on such windows to prefer.

All types of cornices can be installed on such a window. Before fixing them, you need to make sure that the surface above the window is strong and can withstand the weight of the curtain rods with curtains.

Cornice for curtains with lambrequin

Curtains with lambrequins look best in the bedroom, living room. It is they who will transform the room, make the interior complete, bring warmth, comfort.

In order for them to fulfill their function, the curtains must be hung correctly.

Cornices are part of the interior, so there is no need to hide them. The main requirement for the design is that it must be strong in order to hold heavy curtains, tulle, lambrequin.

Each layer of curtains must be attached to a separate guide, so that during operation it is convenient to move them away, it is easy to open windows.

Wooden or metal cornices are most suitable. You should not choose plastic structures or string cornices. They will not be able to withstand the heavy curtains.

Curtains and tulle can be attached to the cornice with hooks or rings, which are called eyelets.

You need to cling to the canvas at an equal distance between them, so that the folds form even.

Before you hang the curtains on the cornice, it must be securely fastened. It is desirable that it be under the very ceiling, but the width can be any.

If the cornice is short, then two brackets are enough. The long one must be fastened in the middle to prevent sagging and breakage of the structure.

The video shows how to install cornices so that they can withstand heavy curtains, tulle, lambrequin.

For a lambrequin, you need to choose special Velcro, with which it is attached to the eaves. Rings, clips are not suitable for this.

If the weight of the lambrequins is small, then instead of Velcro, you can take a braid. With a glue base, you need to attach the lambrequin to the cornice or hang it on small hooks.

A canvas with a lambrequin on a cornice attached to the ceiling will look unusual. Ceiling structures are often used in rooms with stretch ceilings.

It seems that the curtains descend from the ceiling itself.

How to hang rope curtains?

Rope curtains are woven threads that hang freely from the cornice. The threads are connected on a continuous tape or braid, which is attached to the ceiling or wall cornice.

This type of curtain is very original. He can decorate any room in the apartment. Filament curtains are easy to care for. After washing, they are hung on the window. They don't need ironing.

If the rope curtains do not fit in width or length, then this can be corrected - cut off.

But you should know that you can cut the threads only when the curtain hangs down, the threads straighten out and are strictly parallel to each other. To do this, rope curtains should decorate the window for several days.

Do not be afraid that the edges of the curtain will bloom over time - this will not happen.

Filament curtains can be braided into braids, various designs can be formed from them. When you get tired of the shape of the curtain, you can give it its original state at any time.

Rope curtains can be hung not only on the window of the living room. They look beautiful on the windows of public places.

In addition, they will decorate doorways, niches in the room, divide the room into functional zones.

Filament curtains can be hung on plastic windows in the kitchen. They will let a lot of light into the room, they are easy to remove when dirty and easy to hang after washing.

You can hang filament curtains in various ways:

  • Mounting on the cornice - rope curtains have a special pocket where the cornice pipe is inserted. Curtains can be folded, then the muslin will be thicker. It can be made transparent and light by stretching it tight on the eaves;
  • Mounting on hooks or using rings - you need to sew a special curtain tape on thread curtains, which has devices for hooks or rings. Depending on the number of fasteners, folds of different sizes can be made on the tape. Attach the rope curtains to the hooks to the cornice or to the string attached to the wall or ceiling. Instead of hooks, you can use decorative clothespins;
  • Thread curtains can be hung with Velcro tape. To do this, Velcro tape is sewn to the base of the curtain. Velcro mating must be attached to wall or ceiling structures. A cloth of threads is attached to it. Thus, you can easily decorate doorways, niches in the room.

How to hang roman blinds

Roman blinds have become very popular. Due to the variety of colors, they can be hung in a room of any style.

In order to properly hang roll structures, the issue of their location should be resolved. So, you can hang them inside the window opening, or outside it.

In the video you can see how to install roller blinds on windows.

The procedure for installing such curtains inside the window is as follows:

  • You need to make sure that the top of the window opening is flat. To do this, you can use the level. If the surface is far from ideal, it is worth correcting the situation with a small wooden block;
  • After removing the packaging, Roman blinds must be attached to the top of the opening. About 7-8 cm should be retreated from the edge and mark on the surface the place where the structures will be attached. If the roll structures are longer, then more brackets will be needed. In this case, marks must be placed at the same distance between the extreme points. Long Roman curtains do not have to be applied to the opening; you can make marks directly on them, and then transfer them to the base surface;
  • Brackets are usually included with this type of curtain. They need to be installed following the instructions;
  • The last step is fastening. After installing the brackets, the upper part of the curtain structure moves forward, after a click, the curtains will be securely installed. It remains only to adjust them with a cord.

To install Roman blinds outside the window opening, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  • Before installing roll structures, you need to make measurements. To do this, apply it so that it is flush with the opening. Before this, you should make sure that the opening is strong enough to withstand roller blinds;
  • With a pencil, you need to mark the places where the brackets will be attached;
  • Before installing the brackets, you need to attach them to the wall so that the protruding part is at the top, and then fix them with bolts. They usually come with brackets. Before installation, it is worth studying the instructions that the Roman blinds contain in the kit, as there are several options for installing brackets;
  • To install the structure on the window, the brackets located on the top of the curtains must be connected to the elements on the wall. The structure is bolted to the wall so that it holds securely.
  • Curtains are one of the finishing elements in interior design, which brings comfort and completeness to the room. To make the decor look beautiful and stylish, you need not only to choose the right fabric and shape of the curtains, but also immediately decide on accessories and fittings.

    What do curtains hang on most often? Should I be content with traditional methods or is it better to give preference to modern options? The design of the window and the entire room as a whole depends on the choice of a device for hanging curtains, the method of attaching fabric, and fasteners.

    Traditional curtain rods

    The modern range of curtain rods for curtains is so large that it allows the buyer to choose the right type for any room interior. Cornices differ in shape, design, method of attachment to the plane and the materials from which they are made.

    • Cornice rod - a classic type of cornice, which can be made of wood, metal, plastic and metal-plastic. The bar is attached with brackets to the wall or ceiling, it can have several rows for hanging different types of curtains at the same time: curtains, tulle, lambrequin. If the windows are too wide, then experts recommend installing another bracket in the middle of the rod so that it does not bend. Flairs are installed on both sides at the ends of the bar, which can be selected taking into account the design of the entire window. In most cases, the kit comes with rings for attaching curtains that slide perfectly along the rod. Metal-plastic cornices-rods are produced in a wide range of primary colors and under natural wood (walnut, oak, cherry, mahogany), which is most in demand in living rooms.
    • String cornice - the well-known design of the ceiling and wall cornice for a long time can be either single-row or multi-row. String cornices are used for curtains made of light fabrics: nylon, nylon, tulle, organza. Under heavy fabrics, the string begins to sag over time. Ideal for rooms with false ceilings, kitchen or nursery.
    • Baguette cornices look beautiful, stylish and hide the place where the curtains are attached. As a baguette, a wooden plank, a plastic ribbon, which is decorated to match the fabric or the decoration of the room in a classic style, can be used. Wooden baguette cornices are the most reliable and withstand heavy curtains and multi-tiered curtains. You only need to buy a baguette cornice after decorating the interior of the room, since its decor should be combined with the overall design of the room.

    Cornices for a children's room can be distinguished into a separate group - light and bright systems with reliable brackets made of environmentally friendly and safe materials. With children's cornices, you can buy curly tips, bright clips or "fun" magnets for fastening.

    Modern cornices and systems

    • Profile cornices are a system of guides with grooves for runners. The design of the cornices can be varied, allowing them to be installed on the wall and on the ceiling. Profile structures are often completed with a decorative hood for closing curtain fasteners or with swivel segments in the form of a semicircular profile. Aluminum profile cornices are always used when installing manual, automatic, remote lifting or sliding mechanisms.
    • Flexible polymer-metal cornices are one of the most suitable types for bay windows, corner niches or for a canopy above the bed, regardless of the architectural features of the wall or ceiling.
    • Telescopic cornices are fastened between two walls using spacers in the form of internal springs in the rod. Such models are used in bathrooms, in niches, in doorways, where it is undesirable to drill walls or it is not possible to install brackets.

    Cornice systems are modern multifunctional products that include, in addition to guides, special lifting and movement mechanisms and are used to hang certain types of curtains: French, Roman, Japanese.

    Elements for fastening curtains

    Each type of cornice has its own way of attaching curtains, which is carried out using various elements. There are functional fasteners that they try to hide behind decorative strips, baguettes, plastic strips, ruffles and frills. The second group includes fasteners, which are part of the decor of curtains or cornices.

    • Hooks. Depending on the model of the cornice, the hooks have a certain design and consist of an upper and lower part. The upper part is strung on the cornice guides, inserted into the grooves, put on the rings and made in the form of runners or hooks. And curtains are hung on the lower part by loops, allowing them to withstand fairly heavy fabrics.
    • Rings. They are mainly used on round cornices and rods, as they easily slide along the pipe. Curtains can be sewn tightly to the rings, then when washing, you need to remove all the curtains along with the fasteners. In the second case, hooks, clips or magnets cling to the rings, which hold the fabric.
    • Clips (crocodiles, crabs, clips). They allow you to lay folds on the fabric or adjust the length of the curtains to the desired level. Clips are used in tandem with rings, hooks or as an independent element on string cornices. Curtain magnets can serve as a modern replacement for clips, which do not require special preparation of the upper edge of the fabric. The front part of the double-sided magnet has a decorative design, which is selected in accordance with the design of the curtains, the window and the room as a whole.
    • Loops. They are sewn from the main or contrasting fabric in relation to the curtains. But definitely the loops can only be used with a rod cornice, along which they can easily move. Wide or narrow loops are sewn on both sides of the curtain and hold the fabric securely. But there is one drawback: in order to hang or remove the curtain on “deaf” hinges, you need to disassemble the cornice. Loops on buttons, buttons, Velcro or ties will help simplify the task.
    • Eyelets - special rings, consisting of two parts, they are used to make holes in fabrics. Eyelets are fixed on the sealed upper edge of the curtain at regular intervals, which results in uniform beautiful folds. This method is considered fashionable and modern for tubular cornices with a perfectly smooth surface. The cornice pipe or rod can be threaded through the eyelets or traditional hooks can be used.

    Making the top edge of the curtain

    The method of preparing the upper edge of the curtain depends entirely on the type of fasteners, on the type of cornice, on the design of the room and on the quality of the selected fabric.

    • Kuliska. The top of the curtain is wrapped and stitched, leaving room for stringing on the cornice (pipe, rod, string, rod). For greater decorativeness, the top of the drawstring can be decorated with lace, ruffles, and gathered in spectacular folds. Usually, a drawstring is used if frequent movement of the curtains along the cornice is not planned.
    • Curtain tape. A simple and practical way to prepare hook loops right away and decorate the top edge. Cords are laid along the entire length of the braid, with the help of which folds of the desired density and splendor are formed. Curtain tape saved housewives from having to sew on eyelets for hooks by hand. The upper edge of the canvas can be decorated with a single-row or double-row braid. If you hang on the loops located in the second row, the drapery will cover the attachment points to the eaves - this is very convenient in the absence of a baguette or decorative strip.

    It is undesirable to use curtain tape on dense and too heavy fabrics - the folds will puff up.

    • Ties. This is a type of fastening with loops, when the free ends are simply tied on a rod or pipe in the form of knots or bows. Curtains with ties are convenient to hang and take off, and if the length allows, then if necessary, you can adjust the height of the curtains. Tie fastenings look especially romantic, so they are appropriate in a girl's nursery, in a bedroom, in a kitchen or in a country-style room.
    • Velcro. It is used when it is not supposed to move the curtain along the eaves: lambrequins, Roman blinds, Japanese panels. Sometimes cornices are sold with ready-made Velcro on a plastic tire. If there is none, it is easy to attach Velcro to the cornice yourself using a construction stapler or glue.

    The design of the window opening requires preliminary preparation for the choice of cornice, fabric, all decorative elements, so that they harmoniously combine with each other and with the general style of the furniture and the room.
