Many often confuse these two concepts: a planter and a pot, because the main task of the pot is the high-quality growth of the plant, which is impossible without drainage, the correct volume and composition of the soil. Make a flower pot with your own hands

Our article today will be devoted to various ways to create a spectacular decor that could be applied in an apartment, but also let's see a few. In any case, it is important to understand that make a flower pot with your own hands everyone can, and there is nothing complicated about it, no matter what technique or material you choose for yourself.

First DIY flower pots, photo which you see above, is intended solely to decorate the appearance of an ordinary pot or even a flower vase. The principle of its assembly is quite simple - several dozens of identical elements are used, which must first be assembled into a single panel, and then the container itself with the ground should be wrapped around it. As elements for assembly, you can use wooden skewers, ice cream sticks, or, as in our example, colored pencils of the same length. The sequence of the planter is as follows: it is necessary to lay out the pencils on the table in one row, aligning them so that they form a straight line along the lower border, and the total length of the entire row is the circumference of the desired planter. After that, you take a piece of rope, glue it and attach it to the pencils one third of the length, after which you glue the second piece of rope in the same way, stepping back about five centimeters from the first. When the glue dries, the pencils will be firmly attached to the ropes and will be able to curl around the pot. This design is reminiscent of the bamboo mat that is often used for serving. A satin ribbon will complete the work, which wraps around the bottom of the craft.

Unusual containers for succulents and other unpretentious indoor plants have long been one of the ways for designers to show their creativity. After all, such green pets can survive in the conditions of vertical gardening, and in other extreme creative conditions. After all, for begonias, violets or azaleas, the conditions for their normal growth, moisture level and nutrition must first be observed. Whereas the cactus will grow well in a pot, which is decorated with an old book or its imitation. As evidence - examples that you can see in the top photo. A hole is made in the surface of the cover or inside the book, which is covered with gravel or chips. Inside, under a layer of pebbles, there is a pot of earth, in which the plant itself is located. Since you will still need to water, although not so often, your green pet, it is best to cover the cut-out paper pages from the ends with varnish or diluted PVA glue so that a waterproof film forms on the paper surface.

DIY pots for indoor flowers

Unusual textures or the use of non-standard forms are typical for fashion options. pots with their own hands for indoor flowers. They have recently become especially popular, and, as it turned out, you can knit not only a blanket or pillowcase on a pillow, but also covers for decorating flower pots.

For knitting, you can use both knitting needles and a hook, the fabric in this case will differ in appearance. If you make weaving with knitting needles, you can decorate the knitting with braids, cones, weaves, as if weaving a real sweater, only for plants. Well, crochet products can be decorated with appliqués and embroidery, which will look very organic. Knitting is done using a circular element, which is widely used for napkins, and then, when the desired diagonal of the craft is reached, you stop adding loops, knitting only rows of the same size. In this case, the canvas will naturally grow in height, without increasing in diameter. Only at the end, when there will be a slight increase in the diameter of the container, you can also add the required number of loops. The main thing in such crafts is to make them strong enough so that, if necessary, you can hang or form vertical landscaping elements, as is the case with do-it-yourself macrame flower pots, schemes which you can find on the web. It is also important that knitted covers can be easily removed if you need to wash or clean them.

If knitting and complex varieties of needlework are not yet given to you, then planter covers can be made in a simpler way, for this you will need several knitted pullovers with a classic pattern or ornament. Several pieces will be needed because it is desirable that such covers are not single, but represent a series, then the composition will look more harmonious. In the photo you see an example of a similar craft, which is performed using a finished base. It can be any ready-made vase, which you can significantly decorate in such a simple way.

As for do-it-yourself hanging planters for flowers, photo with an example of the creation of which you see, then they belong to a glorious family or apartment. The beauty of such works is that, in addition to the ease of creation and availability (read, free) of source materials, they will perfectly show themselves for decorating flower beds, balconies, open spaces, because they are not afraid of snow and rain, bright sun and strong wind. As you can see, one single bottle of dark plastic is enough for you to place one flower pot, however, the bottle in the process of work changes beyond recognition. The method of recycling old beach slippers, which is proposed above, is suitable for all lovers. In addition to the flip flops themselves, you will also need ceramic tea cups, preferably matched to the color of the shoes. Thanks to the design of the rubber bands on the flip flops, the cup will be securely fixed inside, provided that the plant, along with the soil, does not weigh too much. By the way, in this case, the cup can be turned from an integral part of the cache-pot into an independent container if, using a suitable drill, several drainage holes are made in its bottom.

can also be born on the basis of global design trends. If earlier you could simply knock down a box for seedlings with the help of boards, now a planter, which is a bar with a cut out middle, is already a fashionable designer pot for plants. Moreover, such a box is recommended to be artificially aged a little, for this it is impregnated with stain, rubbed with sandpaper or other similar materials, and then covered with protective azure, so that the decor can safely remain outside in all weather conditions.

Often in the country there is a fairly large number of old baskets, wicker coasters, which one by one have a completely unpresentable appearance. However, if you use them in combination with each other, making, for example, complex vertical gardening of the fence, then such a composition will immediately look not old, but vintage, adding a lot of advantages to the appearance of the site.

The following idea is based on exactly the same principle, only instead of boring pots and baskets, this composition uses pot-bellied ceramic teapots, some of which you can find in your household, and buy the other part at a flea market. Basically, the cache-pot performs a decorative function and is used as a pallet in which pots with plants are placed. Such flowers need to be watered every other day, as moisture evaporates from the soil slowly. Half an hour after watering, the pan is checked. If a lot of water has leaked into it from the pot, it should be poured out. But often the soil is poured directly into the pots. In such a situation, in order to exclude stagnation of moisture, drainage holes are provided in them.

    On hot days for ampelous plants provide irrigation with warm water. Dry shoots, leaves, flowers are regularly removed. To ensure the emergence of new shoots in order to form a lush crown, you need to cut the tops of the stems.

    Selection of ready-made planters for indoor and garden plants

    The range of ready-made planters in stores is incredibly large. In order not to get confused when choosing, experts advise paying attention to several aspects. Among them:

    • the price of the sample you like;
    • destination pots;
    • the size of the pot to be decorated;
    • compliance with the style of the interior or landscape design;
    • product practicality.

    Most often, flower growers prefer flower pots made of polymeric materials, fired ceramics or clay, glass.

    Plastic flower pot

    The most affordable samples are made of plastic. They are easy to clean and can be used indoors and out. Due to the presence of drainage holes and the ability to easily make new ones, the plants in the pots are protected from rotting of the root system. Another useful quality is lightness, which is important if the grower needs a hanging planter for ampelous plants or a spectacular garland of their flower pots. Despite the thin walls, the container located in the sun does not heat up to critical temperatures, does not cause overheating of the soil and the root system.

    If desired, plastic planters can be easily decorated with wood fragments, textiles, beads, or simply painted using safe and bright acrylic paints.

    Shop-bought plastic planters are easy to transform with a skein of rope and glue. The side surface treated by him is tightly wrapped with twine or cord.

    However, with a lot of advantages, plastic planters have a couple of disadvantages. They are not too resistant when used outside the home, and the products are by no means original.

    Ceramic planters

    Ceramics of various types have long been used to make flower pots and planters. Clay is incredibly malleable. It can take a variety of forms, natural material stores the warmth of the hands of the master, transferring it to the interior or summer cottage.

    When choosing a ceramic planter, you should pay attention to the presence of a drainage hole, as well as to the outer coating.

    Unglazed clay retains porosity, which improves the microclimate inside the pot, but reduces the durability of flower pots. When watering with tap water, sloppy stains may appear on the walls. Outside the house, the tank threatens with destruction:

    • increased air humidity;
    • sudden changes in temperature, especially freezing and thawing.

    Painted or glazed ceramics look very impressive and much stronger, but they warm up slowly and poorly remove excess moisture.

    Due to the heavy weight of ceramic products, especially when making hanging flower pots with your own hands, you need a reliable fastening. It is easy to make with strong twine and macrame techniques.

    Glass pot for flowers

    Transparent or colored glass is a fragile, but spectacular material that will help decorate the interior, make the house unique.

    At the same time, having shown imagination, making such a planter with your own hands for indoor flowers is not difficult at all.

    As a base, you can take glass jars of a suitable size, glasses, vases, or even a small, rounded aquarium. By connecting the vessels with a rope, fixing them on a wooden stand, you can build a garland for flowers, make a planter for several pots at once.

    How and from what to make a flower pot with your own hands

    The decoration of the window sill and the garden will be flower pots, not found in the store, but made by the florist with his own hands. These samples are usually:

    • many times cheaper than analogues from the store;
    • created taking into account the tastes and preferences of the master;
    • are unique.

    But, relying on his imagination, the grower needs to remember about the reliability of the future planters, safety and practicality. It is especially important to take into account the changeability of the weather and the influence of external factors if you have to assemble a planter for the garden with your own hands.

    The most popular materials suitable for such work:

    • wood, including planks, bamboo, dry branches collected in the garden;
    • cement mixtures that, after solidification, turn into durable, moisture-resistant structures;
    • durable types of twine and rope, from which wicker planters are made;
    • textiles treated with wear-resistant paint.

    It is not necessary to go to the store for the original planter or materials for its manufacture.

    One has only to look around to notice things that have gone out of use, but can turn into a unique interior or landscape object.

    Do-it-yourself hanging planter for flowers

    Man-made planters for the home are a great opportunity to show your imagination and demonstrate the ability to create practical and absolutely unique things.

    The simplest option is a hanging macrame planter. Woven to the size of the pot, it:

    • fits perfectly into the interior;
    • decorates any container in which an indoor flower grows;
    • can be used for ordinary and ampelous plants;
    • in combination with others, it forms a multi-tiered garland that saves space on the windowsill and gives the window a unique look.

    In addition, the planter allows you to significantly improve the lighting of plants and simplifies care with a large number of flowers in the house.

    When choosing a rope for weaving, it is better to give preference to samples made of wear-resistant fiber that does not stretch under load, does not fade in the sun and is not afraid of moisture. The same requirements apply to wicker planters for the street.

    Floor and table flower pots

    Large plants, such as indoor lemon, monstera, ficus or lush fern, are a great decoration for the house. To make them look even more spectacular, the pot can be placed in the original planter.

    It is not always possible to choose a variant of a suitable design and size, and everyone can make a high floor planter for flowers on their own.

    One option is cement pots. As a basis, a quickly solidifying mixture is taken, which is poured into the prepared form and after some time a strong casting-pot is obtained. Another way to use the material is to drink a textile flap with it and give it a suitable look, wait for the composition to dry. This planter can be used in the house and in the garden. For a greater decorative effect, the casting is painted and even covered with mosaics.

    A box of a suitable shape will serve as an excellent planter for a large flower. It is pre-sanded, treated with a moisture-proof varnish or painted. To protect the floor and other surfaces, for example, a table under a wooden flower pot, a tray is placed on the bottom to collect excess moisture. The free space between the pot and the planter can be filled with coconut fiber.

    To simplify the care of a large green pet, to protect the plant from moisture deficiency and drying out, a planter with a built-in watering system will help. You can buy it or make it yourself from auxiliary materials.

    In addition to the container for the pot, there is a cavity for water and a tube for filling it, as well as a system of holes that supply moisture to the roots and remove its excess. A similar design for flowers of any size can be assembled at home. It will be useful both on the windowsill and in the garden, especially when the plants are deprived of the grower's daily attention.

    The simplest self-watering planter can be made from an ordinary plastic pot. The main thing is that it should be the right size, and its bottom should have many large drainage holes. The shipping container in which the flowers arrive at the store is perfect. Under the drainage, a plastic mosquito net is laid at the bottom. It will not let the soil wash out. Several nylon cords are threaded through the holes so that their ends remain free to hang.

    By placing such pots with home or garden flowers on gravel in a tray filled with water, you can be sure that the plant will not suffer from drying out. The liquid will rise to the ground along the rope, but will not cause root rot.
