Connecting the drain hose of the washing machine. How to connect a washing machine to the sewer. Preparing to buy fittings

It is important! The non-return valve prevents the appearance of unpleasant odors from the sewerage, which cannot be neutralized by any flavors.

When connecting the machine in the kitchen choose a similar option if it is located next to the sink. In this case, the siphon is installed closer to the sink, at least 45 cm high, and the drain hose is fixed with a special adapter, like an inverted Latin letter U, at a height of 70 cm above the floor. The hose from the machine goes up, and then goes down and connects to the sewer through a siphon.

How to make the connection correctly is shown in the photo: the pipe is inserted into the drain hose and secured with a special clamp. This is a simple and cost effective way to drain your washing machine down the drain.

Draining through a siphon

We connect directly

When the entrance to the sewer is at some distance from household appliances, then you need to do sidebar, and install a branch to the installation site of the machine, and this already requires special skills in plumbing work. However, many home craftsmen have already mastered the intricacies of the hot connection of metal-plastic pipes of the water supply system, so they will be able to connect the pipes of the sewer system.

Remember! When connecting the machine directly to the sewer, violation of the established connection rules as a result of independent actions entails repair of the equipment at your expense, the manufacturer's warranty obligations will be invalid.

If the pipe is cast iron, then you can’t do without a specialist. Watch the video carefully to find out how difficult it is to organize a drain for such a connection of the washing machine to the sewer system:

Some specialists insert into the riser tee, and through it the drain hose is already connected through the o-ring. The scheme that we offer is very simple: it shows how to properly connect to the sewerage of a city apartment, while observing the required height so that an unpleasant odor does not enter the machine's system. The drain hose is inserted at a height of no more than 80 cm - it should not touch the water inside the pipe.

Important! It must be remembered that the height of the drain hose affects the operation of the pump: the higher, the greater the load. Follow the recommendations of experts.

After completing all work, check the machine in idle to make sure that your choice of drain organization does not imply any leakage and that all connections remain tight. By the way, the Aquastop system will also protect you from leaks, which can be in the washing machine by default or purchased and installed separately.

The owners of individual cottages have favorable circumstances for connecting: they can make all the necessary taps and water and electricity supply systems in advance, so as not to guess later how to make this or that connection, what costs will be required.

Horizontal drain

A few words about the horizontal drain into the sewer under the bathroom, which many homeowners do wrong. It is easy to disguise it with overhead panels, which makes the design of the entire room only benefit, but there is a huge minus: the drain hose will be filled with drains from the bath. Unpleasant odors will inevitably be constantly present in the system of the washing unit, not to mention constant dampness. In order to avoid such negative consequences, the input of the drain from the machine must be done from top to bottom and with a mandatory water seal.

Air gap conditions

Materials and tools

To properly organize the process of removing waste water from the machine, you will need:

  1. drain hose- with a good location of the sewerage system, you can use the one that comes with the kit, in others you will have to purchase separately. In this case, it is necessary to take into account all the bends, because its extension is unacceptable.
  2. All sealing means it is better to purchase based on silicone - it is durable and provides 100% sealing. The basis of organizing plumbing work of any kind is to pay special attention to the prevention of leakage.
  3. metal pipes, special siphon with an additional branch for connecting a washing unit, tees, adapters and various types of elbows, check valve. Calculate the diameter, as well as the length and type yourself, depending on the selected connection option.
  4. pipe cutter and other special tools if you plan to tie into the home sewer system. Adjustable wrench or set of open end wrenches.

If all the work is done correctly, the results of the idle wash did not reveal any leaks in the drain system, then you can hope that it will last as reliably for a long time as the washing machine itself.

Before buying a washing machine, many are wondering how to properly connect it to communications. There are two options for the development of events: call a professional master or do all the work yourself. Self-installation is a responsible matter, you will need to observe all the details, correctly connect the inlet hose to the water supply, and drain the drain into the sewer. It is also important to choose a place for installation and correctly conduct the power supply for the device. Instructions and useful tips will help you not to get confused in all stages of installation.

Selecting a location for installation

In a standard apartment there are several places where you can place a washing machine - a bath, a toilet or a kitchen. The toilet is usually placed narrow appliances with a horizontal load of laundry. In exceptional cases, the machine is installed in the corridor or pantry, if possible.

The washing machine must be installed strictly on the level of the floor

The main condition for choosing a place for a washing machine is a perfectly flat floor surface.

Advice. It is best to identify the machine on a concrete floor. In this way, vibrations during operation can be reduced. Retractable legs help keep the appliance in the correct position.

Unpacking the machine

Manufacturers take care of the transportation of their goods very carefully. The washing machine is carefully packed. This is done in order to avoid damage during transportation.

Attention! Before installation, read the instructions and follow all the necessary steps.

The machine must be released from the factory packaging and the transport bolts that fix the device tank must be removed. They are easily unscrewed, and plugs are attached instead.

Attention! Do not operate the washing machine with shipping bolts, otherwise damage may result. This failure is not covered by the warranty.

Required Tools

Connecting a washing machine will require you not only to study the instructions or your own knowledge, but also to have some tools. So get ready:

  • adjustable and gas key;
  • ball valve;
  • fitting, tee or compression coupling (depending on the type of pipes);
  • threaded adapter;
  • withdrawal - if necessary;
  • flexible hose.

Connecting the appliance to the plumbing system

You can connect the machine to the water supply in several ways:

  1. Connection without the use of plumbing. This option is more suitable for use in the country. After all, country life should also be comfortable. And the lack of running water should not be the reason for the rejection of the benefits of civilization. So, you will need a large tank, which must be installed at a height of at least 3 m. Connect the hose from the machine to it. Thus, the necessary pressure will be created. If you do not want to carry out high-altitude work with the tank, then you can purchase a pumping station, but this method will be very expensive.

    Connecting the washing machine through the tank

  2. Connection via a tee. An easy way to connect. To do this, use a flexible hose. It is connected to a water faucet or toilet tank. The hose to be connected must be of sufficient length and must be connected using a tee. Before each wash, the faucet hose will have to be unscrewed. This is not very convenient and this method can be used as a temporary option. Connecting the washing machine to the water supply of the toilet tank is a good idea, but only if they are located nearby.

    Tee connection

  3. Connection through metal-plastic pipes through a fitting. A great way for owners. A part is cut out in the cold pipe, and a fitting (connecting tee) is cut into the opening, to which the ball valve is fixed. The connecting sections must be sealed with rubber cuffs.

    Connection through metal-plastic pipes

  4. Connection by means of a compression sleeve. For this method, you will need a ¾ dm flexible hose. It must be connected to the machine and a special faucet that cuts into the water supply through a compression coupling. This is only done if the pipe is metal. The coupling includes several halves, which are put on the pipe and tightened with bolts. It also includes a threaded outlet, on which a crane is put on (preferably a ball valve). For water to enter the pipe, a hole is made through the coupling.

Features of mounting the machine to the sewerage system

When the work on connecting the washing machine to the plumbing is completed, it's time to think about where the dirty waste water will go. The device must be connected to the sewer system. This can be done in several ways.

  • Draining water into a bathtub or sink. A very simple option, but perhaps not the most reliable. Some manufacturers take into account in the configuration of the washing machine a “hook” hose, which is fixed on the wall of the bathtub or sink. Its advantage is that you do not need to bother installing the machine to the sewer. But there are many more disadvantages. Dirty water will stain the enamel of the bath, especially acrylic. A small blockage in the sink while draining the machine can cause flooding of the neighbors. Often, due to vibrations while draining the water, the “hook” falls to the floor, which can also cause a serious flood.

Draining water into a bathtub or sink

  • Siphon connection. To make the drain from the machine stationary, you will need to purchase. It has a branch for washing machines, which should be located above the elbow of the siphon. Otherwise, dirty water will be sucked into the washing machine. As a result, an undesirable foreign smell may appear in the device.
  • Connection to the sewer pipe. This is a way to connect the washing machine directly to the sewer pipe. It should have a thickness of 4 or 5 cm. For this, a sealant and an S-shaped drain hose are used. The hose is inserted into the pipe so that it does not come into contact with wastewater. The top of the hose is placed at a height of 55 cm from the floor.

Washing machine power supply

It would seem that the work on connecting the machine has been completed, but one important detail remains - the power supply.

Advice. Operate preferably a three-wire outlet. Protect yourself and ground the switchboard.

If you need an extension cord, use only one that has a ground connection.

A good option would be to connect the device with a separate wire from the electric meter. It has automatic protection. If such a wire has not been run, then a portable RCD can be used.

Connecting the washing machine to communications is a simple matter, but requires attention. Of course, it is better to leave it to professionals who will take care of all the moments in order to further secure the operation of the device. Do-it-yourself installation involves many risks, but if you are ready for them, then get to work.

How to connect a washing machine: photo

When connecting the washing machine to the sewer with your own hands, first of all, choose a site with a flat and hard floor near the discharge point. The distance from the installation site of the equipment to the intended point must be within the length of the drain hose.

You should pay attention to the back wall of the washing machine: if the device has just been purchased, it is imperative to remove the transport bolts - their presence is determined by the holes of the plugs. The drain is usually installed at the bottom of the housing and, to avoid accidental discharge, the hose is raised to a special catch on the rear panel. Laying the sleeve to the connection point should exclude twisting and pinching of the walls so that nothing prevents the free flow of water. There are several ways to connect.

Discharge of water without connection to a weir system

The method is the simplest - no intervention in the existing system of intra-apartment sewerage is required. A drain hose slung over the edge of a bathtub, toilet, or sink is used. The standard length is up to three meters, the pump is not designed for a large length, and therefore it is not recommended to increase it. To prevent leakage to the floor, the sleeve is fixed with a plastic device in the form of a bracket. This standard fastener is included with the washing machine.

This method has disadvantages:

  • dirty water with the remnants of washing powder and particles of debris flows over the white surface of the plumbing, bringing it into an unsightly state;
  • the bracket is not attached to the wall of the sink or bathtub, but simply flips over, which makes it possible to accidentally drop the hose onto the floor, for example, due to increased vibrations of the machine during the spin cycle;
  • when the processes of washing clothes are combined with washing, households will observe a dirty stream with an unpleasant odor in the sink;
  • it becomes impossible to use the bathroom (toilet) before the end of the operation of the device.

To avoid the indicated inconveniences, accidental spills of water on the floor and problems due to leaks, it is better to use other ways to connect the washing machine to the sewer. These schemes provide for a closed drain of the liquid into the drainage system, eliminating the entry of an unpleasant odor into the bathroom.

Drainage without connection to the sewer

Connection via siphon device

Siphon connection

A convenient and uncomplicated way to connect the device to a spillway is to use a plumbing structure installed under the sink with a hydraulic seal against the spread of odors from the sewer system. This product is called a siphon. It is produced in two versions: normal and with an additional outlet for connecting the washing machine hose. Depending on which model is installed, the connection is made:

  • with a pipe - you need to remove the plug from it, bring the drain sleeve and secure it with a metal clamp;
  • in the usual version - it is necessary to replace the siphon with a new one and connect the hose in the same way.

The pump that pumps out dirty water from the machine is located in the lower part of the body, and on the rear panel there is a grip at a height of 60 cm from the floor. A correctly laid hose from the device to the connection point should be at a height of 50 cm at the junction, and its route should depict the letter S.

All joints are sealed and checked for water leakage - for this, both taps must be fully opened. Some experts advise not to overdo it with the seal, but to leave small leaks to prevent the drained fluid from being sucked back into the tank. But this rarely happens. And most modern models of washing machines are equipped with a drain valve. It prevents sewage water from returning to the laundry drum and from spontaneous leakage.

Siphons are also made with a built-in check valve for connecting household appliances. The only drawback of connecting the washing machine to the sewer through a siphon is the sound (gurgling of water) from the neck of the sink when draining, which cannot be eliminated.

Direct connection to the drain pipe

Direct drain into the sewer pipe

Such a connection is made when the distance from the washing machine to the sink is more than 1.5 m. To connect to the sewer pipe, the material from which it is made is taken into account: a rubber adapter is installed on the cast iron, and plastic on the metal. You will also need:

  • U-shaped tee;
  • pipes for mounting a branch;
  • several cuffs and seals.

When connected without a siphon, the drain hose is led directly into the splitter or somewhat remotely from it, if you want to move the machine away from the sink. It is more convenient to install the tee directly on the horizontal sewer pipe under the sink.

When installing the drain directly into the drainage system, the joints are sealed with rubber seals. The end of the hose does not touch the water level in the sewer inlet.

The route of the sleeve represents the letter S, the outlet from the machine must be located lower than the connection point to the drain. When installing plastic pipes to a remote washing machine, on the way to it, it is necessary to make a vertical bend with a rise of 30–50 cm.

Compared to the two previous connection options, the direct drain into the sewer pipe requires a significant investment of time and labor. But a properly installed connection of the washing machine to the water supply and drainage system guarantees safe and reliable operation of the structure during the life of the appliance itself.

Correct installation of the drain hose of the washing machine is the key to its successful operation. It is necessary to do this so that the waste water flows freely into the sewer pipe. It is not difficult to perform this work, it is quite possible to do without inviting a specialist. How exactly to select components and assemble them into one system - we will tell in this article.

Connection methods

There are several methods for connecting the washer drain to the sewer. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Here are the ways:

  • Insertion into the sewer.
  • Descent of water through a nozzle with a tap, which is located above the siphon.
  • The direction of the waste of washing through a siphon with a branch.
  • Descent of waste water over the edge of the toilet bowl, tub or sink.

Important! The location of the washing unit plays a decisive role in choosing the method of arranging the drain. Most often it is in the bathroom or in the kitchen. In the kitchen, the drain is directed through a siphon or tie-in, no matter how far the communications are located. To equip the drain over the edge of the sink is unacceptable for sanitary reasons.

In the bathroom, there are much more options:

  • Next to the bath - over the edge of the bath.
  • Next to a toilet or sink. Options are available through a siphon or tie-in. The most inexpensive way is over the edge of the toilet bowl or sink.
  • Instead of a washbasin - through a tie-in or siphon.

In all the above cases, there is a possibility for an optimal connection of the drain.

Tool, consumables

The choice of tool largely depends on the material of manufacture of sewer pipes. The classic set of tools is as follows:

  • Wrenches, wrench.
  • Screwdriver, drill.
  • Pipe cutter - when working with a metal-plastic pipe.

The list of consumables depends on which drain method you have chosen. It usually includes:

  • Hose. Its length depends on how far the communications are from the washer.
  • Ball valve.
  • Seals.
  • To connect over the edge of the bath - self-tapping screws.
  • Tee.
  • The siphon equipped with a branch pipe.
  • Liquid rubber, silicone-based sealant.

In the sink, toilet or bath

When organizing a drain in this way, a curved drain hose is hung on the edge of a sink, toilet bowl or bathtub, and after washing is returned to its original place. The disadvantage of this method is that the drain can accidentally break, then the flood cannot be avoided.

Important! This method of organizing the drain is considered the most economical and simple. The set of tools and consumables here is the most minimal, since the washing unit is equipped with almost everything you need for work.

The procedure for organizing the drain is extremely simple:

  1. Drill a hole above the bath for the plug so that the end of the mounted hose is in the bath.
  2. Screw a self-tapping screw into the resulting hole.
  3. Disconnect the corrugated hose with a plastic bracket and a mounting hole from the rear wall of the washer.
  4. Hang the hose on the screw.

Important! This fastening allows the hose to hold well, without coming off or shifting from the vibration of the washer or from careless movements.

The method also has quite significant disadvantages:

  • Do not bathe in the bath while washing.
  • Waste water after washing contributes to the pollution of the bathtub or sink, and also destroys the coating.
  • Cleaning the tub after washing is required.

Through the tee

In this case, a special nozzle equipped with a tap is mounted under the sink. The procedure for this is as follows:

  1. Disconnect the drain pipe that comes from the sink.
  2. Install the tee as high as possible (well, if under the very opening of the sink). This is to prevent backflow of water.
  3. Return the equipment to its place.
  4. Connect the nozzle to the extension hose.

Important! In order to prevent an unpleasant smell from appearing in the tank of the washing unit, twist the hose near the connection point in the form of the letter S, while not obstructing the free movement of water. To prevent damage to the connections, position and secure the tubes so that they do not interfere with free movement.

Siphon with non-return valve

If you properly mount such a system and find out how it is produced, you can forget about such a problem as the appearance of an extraneous odor. And the built-in non-return valve creates an obstacle for the reverse penetration of waste water.

Connection nuances are as follows:

  • The tee is replaced with a new siphon. A hose is put on the outlet of the tee.
  • The connection to the pipe is fixed with a sealing sleeve - it can be included. If not, it is purchased separately.
  • The insertion site is treated with a sealing compound. This is an additional protection against sewer odors.

When buying a machine, we almost always know its future location. But it often happens that due to size or for other reasons, the place changes. The first difficulty that SM owners face is the long distance from communications. Therefore, today we will talk about whether it is possible to extend the drain hose of an automatic washing machine, and how to do it correctly.

Before extending the hose, you must understand its parameters. Remember: in no case should it be raised higher than 1 meter so that the drainage pump can normally pump out waste water from the tank. If you neglect this recommendation, the low power of the pump will not be enough to drain, the water will linger in the tank.

During connection, you must take care of the free tension of the tube, especially paying attention to the top point. It should be 60 cm higher than the lowest point. This is typical for all cars, regardless of brand and model. But still, if you have everything calculated up to a centimeter, you need additional information. To find out the exact value, look at the user manual - everything is written there. If nothing is indicated in the manual, look for other technical documentation for the CM.

Usually the maximum length of the hose does not exceed two meters, and more often it is only one and a half. If the tube is much shorter, or the standard size is not enough for you, you can go for a trick - instead of extending the drain hose, get a new one of sufficient length.

Attention! You can buy the part in a store specializing in the sale of plumbing, or in a service center. If you did not find what you were looking for, go to "online" - find the desired part on the Internet.

To replace the part, you have to disassemble the case. If you are not ready for such a radical action, there is a simpler solution - connecting 2 washing machine hoses. To build a drain hose, take:

  1. Another new detail.
  2. Quality clamps.
  3. Connector for drain hoses.

In principle, you can save on clamps if the connection is tight. But to make sure of this, you will have to visit the store repeatedly - first buy a connector, and then clamps, if there are doubts about the tightness. Also, clamps will come in handy without fail if you can’t pick up a connector.

If you bought a connector

  1. Fix the hoses in the connector on both sides.
  2. Secure with clamps.
  3. Install on the machine and sewer.
  4. Run a test wash, if everything is fine, the machine can be used.

Without connector

  1. Find a plastic or rubber tube. Its size should be such that it fits on both hoses.
  2. Buy clamps.
  3. The tube is put on the hoses so that they converge in the center. The tighter the tube sits, the better.
  4. Use clamps for a tighter fit.

If you do not have enough allowable length of 3.5 meters, then there are other ways out of the situation:

  • Install equipment closer to communications.
  • Zoom in on the drain.

Want to visually see how to extend the drain hose? We offer video:

Having figured out how to lengthen the drain of the washing machine, you have solved only part of the problem. But you still need to figure out what to do with the water inlet hose, if its length is also not enough. About all this - below.

Not sure how to extend the inlet hose? Everything is extremely simple: instead of building up a water supply hose, buy a more authentic part. It is sold in the same place as the parts for the drain system. To change the part, disassembly of the SMA is not needed. Proceed like this:

  1. Disconnect the SM from the water supply, if it was connected to it.
  2. Unscrew the fasteners (manually, without tools, so as not to damage the plastic fasteners).
  3. Installing a new item. When tightening the fasteners, do not use tools - do everything manually.
  4. Open the valve and check the tightness of all connections.
  5. If everything is fine, proceed to washing. At least for testing.

If you can’t find a hose of a suitable length, you can lengthen it. Usually the water supply hose is extended by the second of the same element, but you will need an adapter. Use a 3x4 inch brass nipple. To extend the hose for the water supply to the washing machine, simply screw the nipple on each hose, and that's it - the job has been done successfully.

If you had to add or change parts, do not forget to check if your typewriter has enough cord to connect to the mains. If the cord is too short, or vice versa - the outlet is far away, then you need to pay attention to this moment. It is better not to use extension cords to connect the washing machine to the mains. This is fraught with serious damage: such extension filters often provoke a fire.

Now you know how the drain and intake hose of the washing machine is extended. And wherever your washing machine is, you will always find a way to successfully connect it to all communications.
