How beautiful it is to lay paving slabs in the old city. Paving slab layout schemes Old Town - pattern options. Standard laying pattern

It is produced by the method of two-layer vibrocompression from concrete (concrete class for compressive strength B25) and has high performance properties - wear resistance, frost resistance, resistance to chemical attack and low water absorption.

The shape and dimensions of the tiles “Old Town”

The “Old Town” series includes paving stones of 3 standard sizes - 60x120x60mm, 120x120x60mm and 180x120x60mm - when laid combined with each other. The presence of characteristic rounded corners of the elements stylizes the paving under a medieval pavement.

Tile thickness - 60mm, designed for pedestrian paving(paths, sidewalks, pedestrian areas with low traffic intensity).

The “Old Town” series is an excellent option for arranging garden and park paths, terraces, and making a blind area around the house.

Specifications

Technical characteristics and quality standards of paving slabs must meet the necessary requirements, including the climatic conditions of the region - detailed technical documentation must be requested from the manufacturer.

Regardless of the operating conditions of paving slabs, the most effective method of protection is the usewater repellents .

Water repellents prevent the formation of efflorescence and give the surface water-repellent properties. After treatment, water and polluting liquids are not absorbed into the surface, but flow off it. On the paving surface treated with water repellents, frost forms less and is easily removed.

Tiles Old City is one of the most common and it is not surprising. Not only does this paving slab look very attractive, it has a large number of laying options. And if you use a combination of different colors, then the Old Town will look amazing. In this article, we will look at what the laying of paving slabs in the Old Town looks like, options for laying it and combining tiles.

The Old Town allows you to let your imagination run wild and create different patterns and combinations of tiles. One pack of this tile usually includes tiles in four sizes, but in some cases three sizes are possible - there is no smallest option. The maximum set includes a large tile, a square, a tile that is half the size of a large tile, and the smallest tile, the surface area of \u200b\u200bwhich is one third of the large tile or 1/2 of the square. As you can see, there are plenty of options for combining from the available sizes. You can also complicate things by adding a variety of color options.

If you want to see order in everything, then the regularity should be preserved in the laying of paving slabs in the Old Town. This applies not only to the selection of tiles by size, but also by color. The name paving slabs carries the very essence of laying - the old city. In those old days, roads were laid out of granite stone of various sizes and no one thought about any sequence, so the stones were laid out randomly - this gave the road no less beauty. That is, the laying of paving slabs of the Old Town will look just amazing if you make a little chaos in the masonry. The main thing is not to make “spots” from the frequent repetition of tiles of the same size or color.

As can be seen in the diagrams above, with any masonry options there is one pattern - this is the presence of transverse or longitudinal lines. These lines should be straight. It may seem that this is not so important, but it is not. Firstly, the finished version will be clearly more attractive with straight lines, even if there is chaos in the masonry pattern, and secondly, this can cause a problem over large areas. Which problem? The tile may not fit well and not pass in some places - trimming will be required, and this will not reflect very well on the overall picture.

But it is also possible to lay paving slabs without observing this line. Many errors can be hidden by this method, no lines need to be adhered to, but besides this it is time consuming.

Paving slabs are well rammed after laying with a vibrating plate. If it is made according to technology, then no chips and cracks will form. If you are worried that traces will remain, then simply attach a thin sheet of rubber to the tamper tile.

In another, the Old Town is no different from laying tiles of other sizes and patterns. The only thing you need is imagination and of course patience. Usually, for laying this tile, installers ask for a slightly higher price than usual.

Modern trends in the design of garden, country, street landscape are distinguished by a variety of technological methods and unique combinations of colors and shades. Thanks to the use of modern dyes, innovative raw materials, excellent quality fastening materials, manufacturers offer paving slabs that are unique in terms of operational and aesthetic qualities.

Such a variety allows the design ideas and imagination of the owner of the site to unfold, to ensure the beauty and safety of house and street paths, sidewalks, playgrounds and squares. In this context, certain stylistic directions that can be created thanks to one or another type of tile should also be considered. The Old Town tile is an example of how many different types of installation can be used. Equally important is the color scheme of this product line, which can be appreciated after a warm summer rain or melted snow. And the format and quality of the surface will allow you to get a completely unique effect. This is the pavement of a small medieval town, walking along which you can get to the streets of the most famous ancient historical places in Europe.

Description

The range of this stone blocks is one of the most widespread and demanded types of a paving covering. It is easy to understand, manufacturers offer various sizes and colors, this allows you to equip the interiors of the courtyard, the space near the porch or front door, a large area, a pedestrian street and other objects. Despite the fact that this is a modern and high-tech material, it also has certain priorities, which are very significant and have minor controversial qualities. The advantages of this wonderful material are:

  • A wide range of design solutions, which are carried out thanks to the variety of colors.
  • The technology makes it possible to obtain tiles with high resistance to low temperatures. With proper laying, moisture does not stagnate on the surface of the paving stones.
  • Non-polished surfaces provide an anti-slip effect, it is a safe sidewalk, public transport stops, gas station sites.
  • High rates of environmental cleanliness. On hot summer days, there is no release of harmful substances into the air.
  • The best option that allows you to combine affordable prices and excellent quality.
  • Ease of operation and repair of the damaged area.
  • A minimum of auxiliary materials.

In the photo - the option of laying paving slabs in the old city:

In addition to all these qualities, the Old Town tile has another priority - fragment parameters. Today, all manufacturers offer products with the following sizes. Three categories of thickness:

The technical indicators of this popular material are as follows:

  • Fragment length - 60/90/120/180 mm.
  • Width - 120 mm.
  • Height - 40,60,80 mm.
  • Weight -94-141-189 kg / sq. m.
  • Concrete class B20-30-35 frost resistance.
  • Water absorption cycle F200.
  • Abrasion level no more than 6%

Variants of drawings and patterns, laying scheme

To get started, prepare standard materials and tools. Calculating the amount of preparatory materials is simple. For 1 sq. a square meter, the best option would be to stock up on cement in the amount of 25 kg, three bags of sand and the same amount of sand. This is a classic ratio, it is more practical to make a reserve, taking into account the specific soil conditions, terrain, design loads and other conditions. The set of tools is quite simple. It consists of two spades, a marking lace or rope, here you need to include a trowel, a level, and a household soft broom.

On the video - do-it-yourself tile laying of the old city:

The technological foundations of laying are as follows:

  1. Leveling surface differences for laying, leveling the ground.
  2. Marking the outlines of the planned tracks, a tolerance for the width of the curb is required.
  3. Installation of border elements.
  4. Preparation of sand - cement mixture, in the proportion of 3/1. It strengthens the installed curb.
  5. In accordance with the sketches, paving stones are laid, the elements fit well together and are adjusted in height with a rubber mallet.
  6. Formation of slopes for water flow.
  7. After the laying of the pavers is completed, the entire path is covered with a primer, it is especially important to fill the gaps. The excess is removed with a broom.

The link describes in detail the technology of laying paving stones. When creating the main sketch of the pavement from the paving stones of the Old Town, one thing must be remembered. This is a strict geometry and the presence of lines of transverse or longitudinal directions. In addition, the selection of colors is important - a contrasting combination or a "chaos" scheme, when the designer simply improvises. It is applicable to use braided patterns, parquet, herringbone, various ornaments, reminiscent of the traditions of Italian and Arab masters. But these options are some deviation from the classical scheme. Here you can see the various options for laying paving slabs of paving stones. It is also necessary to take into account some subtleties in laying this type of paving stones, which should not be neglected. First of all, you need to work only in dry weather, for some time after laying the sidewalk it should not be washed, thoroughly clean its surface from cement residues, this tile quickly absorbs foreign substances and loses its appearance and color.

Prices for tiles and their laying

The price aspect of paving stones Old Town is quite democratic. Depending on the manufacturer and the popularity of colors, the price per square meter may be as follows:

The cost of laying usually fluctuates somewhat depending on the category of the company producing these works and other factors. Usually the base cost is 2.1 - 2.5 US dollars for laying one square meter of tiles. This includes the production of all works, from the zero cycle to commissioning.

In modern conditions, the range of Old Town tiles is one of the most popular for decorating objects of various purposes. It is bright, diverse, has excellent strength and safety indicators, which is very important for regions with a long cold period. The factor of democratic price and ease of installation is also important. The tile is not picky in maintenance and repair. This makes it the most successful solution for the design and organization of various sidewalk coverings.

Do-it-yourself laying of paving slabs "Old Town" + installation schemes

Paving slabs are the face of a residential building, public institution or street. No wonder Old Town tiles are so common and loved by so many customers. It differs from other types of tiles in originality, however, because of this, the laying of paving slabs in the Old Town has many variations that are even hard to imagine. And by adding colored Old Town tiles to the overall picture, you can create a more colorful look. It is worth considering in more detail the options for combining colors and styling.

Schemes for laying paving slabs "Old Town"

This type of scarf is unique in the set of concrete tiles included in it. It consists of the following sizes:

  • tiles size 118*178*60,
  • tiles size 118*118*60,
  • tiles size 88*118*60.

Because of this, tile laying patterns also turn out to be quite original. It’s not always easy to figure them out in your head, you need to sit down and draw on paper or look for options on the Internet. We offer you several popular and beautiful ideas to choose from:

In addition, this tile can be combined with the usual Brick or other types - this way you can reduce the cost of the project and make it even more interesting and original.

Surface preparation for laying

Consider how to make laying paving slabs Old Town with your own hands.

  1. Initially, it is worth making an objective assessment of the old surface.
  2. Next, you need to make an accurate marking of the area on which paving slabs will be laid, it is better to use construction fishing line - it is more reliable.
  3. A place for a curb is prepared along a stretched fishing line, do not forget about a gap of 2-3 centimeters, which will be used to accurately set the curb.
  4. The curb itself must be fixed with a cement-sand solution in a ratio of 1: 4 - this is the most common and reliable combination. You should not immediately proceed to the base for the tile, you need to wait for the adhesion of the mortar and the curb.
  5. The base should consist of screenings or sand, to which cement is added in a ratio of 1:6. The finished mixture should be covered with a six-centimeter layer and perfectly aligned. 6 centimeters of the mixture will perfectly cope with drainage.
  6. To avoid subsidence of tiles after laying, the surface must be moistened with plenty of water.
  7. For compacting sand, it is better to use a special vibropress, it can be rented. It is manual and mechanical, they have electric or gasoline engines. Specialists choose a vibropress (rammer) mechanical.

Stages of laying tiles

When a perfectly flat and compacted surface (layer 1) is obtained, it is already possible to prepare a second surface (layer 2). You won’t have to tamp it, but the composition should be made of cement and sand, a ratio of 1: 5, a thickness of not more than 2 cm. You can lay the second layer on beacons, but each specialist works with a tool that is convenient for him. After the work done, you can start laying the tiles.

The scheme of laying paving slabs in the old city will not create many troubles; when working with tiles, you only need to follow the pattern. There are several ways:

  1. Rubber or wooden mallet. The tile is laid in its place and compacted;
  2. Vibrotamper. The entire tile with a pattern is completely laid, then a sheet of rubber is laid under the rammer, and we go through all the tiles.

The final stage - grouting

For this stage, it is better to take dry river sand and brush everything thoroughly with a brush, but you can also use a regular broom. Then dampen everything with water.

Be sure in some places the sand will fail and the procedure should be repeated again after a while. After going through all the steps, the tile will not stagger underfoot.

In such a simple way, you can get an amazingly beautiful paving pattern, after which you can proudly tell all the guests that you did the laying of the Old Town tiles yourself!

Paving slabs "Old Town": laying options, technology, layout schemes

Street, country and garden landscapes are designed today according to modern trends. Design technologies are distinguished by different techniques and a unique combination of shades, as well as colors.

Today it has become possible to use dyes and innovative raw materials that are of high quality. The same can be said about reinforcing materials.

So, manufacturers offer for sale paving slabs with high performance and aesthetic characteristics. Such a variety allows the imagination of the owner of the site to unfold, ensuring the safety and beauty of street and house paths, playgrounds, sidewalks and squares.

The Old Town tile, the laying options of which will be discussed below, is an excellent example of how diverse installation schemes can be. A rather important factor is also the color scheme, which can be fully appreciated after melting snow or summer rain. A unique effect can be achieved thanks to the quality and format of the surface.

Characteristics

Paving slabs "Old Town" are presented in the most popular and common types of coverage. Manufacturers offer a variety of colors and sizes that allow you to equip the exteriors of the yard, the space near the front door or porch, as well as the area of the pedestrian street and various objects.

The described tile has various fragment parameters. Three categories of thickness can be distinguished. For example, 40 mm paving stones are laid on sidewalk paths. 60 mm tiles are suitable for areas with medium traffic, while 80 mm products will be able to provide strength in the parking lot and in traffic areas.

Paving slabs "Old Town" has a length ranging from 60 to 180 mm. The width is standard and equal to 120 mm. The mass of one square meter can vary from 94 to 189 kg. The class of concrete used for frost resistance can be represented by B20-30-35. The level of abrasion is 6%.

Laying technology: preparatory stage

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare standard tools and materials. It is important to determine the amount of materials. For one square meter of area, you should stock up on cement in the amount of 25 kg. For the same amount of work, three bags of sand should be purchased. Experts recommend purchasing materials with a certain margin, this will take into account the specific soil conditions, design loads, terrain and other conditions. The set of tools is not so diverse, it consists of:

  • marking cord;
  • shovels;
  • ropes;
  • trowel;
  • household broom;
  • level.

Work algorithm

The technology of laying paving slabs "Old Town" provides for the leveling of surface differences at the first stage. The master will have to level the ground well. At the second stage, the outlines of the tracks are marked. It is important to ensure a border width tolerance.

Next, the curb elements are installed. Now you can start compiling a mixture of cement and sand in a ratio of 1 to 3. The composition is laid to strengthen the curb. Given the features of the sketch, you can start laying paving stones. The elements should be joined together and adjusted in height using a rubber mallet.

Laying options: installation on a primer with a base

The "Old Town" tile, whose curly elements can be laid according to a certain pattern, is sometimes mounted on a primer with a base. The main difference from the technology, which does not provide for the presence of a foundation, is the need to create an additional foundation layer. It will be tough, but is a pillow of concrete or rubble. Such a layer eliminates the spreading of the track and its partial subsidence.

The primer layer during installation on a concrete base can be minimal. It will provide only fixation on the surface. The characteristics of the Old Town tile were mentioned above, but they are not all that the master should know. Before starting work, you need to ask what is the technology of laying the material. It is necessary to start manipulations in dry weather. It is not recommended to wash the coating for the first time after laying.

Layout schemes

If you chose the “Old Town” tile for finishing the path in the garden or in the country, you should study the options for laying this material. It should be remembered that all trapezoidal and rectangular elements have the same width. Therefore, the tiles can be laid across or along the tracks in separate strips.

The most difficult option for paving the territory in the courtyard of the house is the scheme of the chaotic arrangement of elements. In this case, transverse and longitudinal seams are excluded. If you have to lay the material in straight sections, then you can use the scheme with a transverse seam. In this case, elements with different sizes fit between the curbs. It is necessary to navigate in width, which is the same for all elements.

The laying scheme may provide for the formation of a longitudinal seam. This method can be compared with the above, however, the stripes in this case are formed along the track. Another option for laying tiles "Old Town" is a seamless pattern. It is the most complex and is usually designed in a graphical editor. In order to increase the artistic value of the composition, you should purchase colored elements that fit in an arbitrary position.

Trapezoidal FEM elements can be used to design radius and winding sections. They are specially designed for difficult areas. These components are of different sizes and allow you to maximize the design at intersections and corners. These zones, if necessary, can be decorated with rectangular stones. Lay tiles on the radius area should be, starting from the inside. The seams between the elements are moved apart by a wedge. Straight sections are usually laid with ordinary tiles, while concentrated circles and radius areas are formed with wedge-shaped paving stones.

Alternative schemes

Considering the options for laying tiles "Old Town", you should pay attention to radius ornaments. The configuration of the territory and the laying scheme can be any. However, the tiles can be laid taking into account the integration of any pattern or ornament. With color, you can highlight the space at the curb, laying tiles of a bright shade in several rows.

In large areas, you can lay out a geometric pattern using narrow stripes. Zoning looks very beneficial. At the same time, the width of the tape is comparable to the parameters of the sidewalk, and the pattern acts as the main design element, it is on it that attention is concentrated.

Considering the layout of paving slabs "Old Town", you can choose a herringbone pattern. In this case, two or more colors alternate, which will depend on the preference of the owner. The territory can be colorful, in this case several colors are required, the emphasis is shifted to the transverse and longitudinal seams, as well as to the original texture of the composition.

Paving slabs "Old Town" - preparation for work, methods of laying blocks

Rounded, small, different-sized paving slabs "Old Town" are made of composite material, the shapes of which resemble the stones laid on the pavements in medieval cities. Despite the fact that the tracks designed using the material acquire a unique uniqueness, the popularity of the material did not come immediately. For a long time it was believed that the use of paving stones is inconvenient, especially for lovers of high heels and stilettos. However, after adding other colors and shades to the standard gray and brick colors, Old Town paving slabs gained popularity and interest in it increased.

What does the finish look like?

Characteristics

Landscaping the territory of the site, paving stones called "Old Town" results in:

  • unique stone patterns that have been relevant for several years;
  • the possibility of waste-free use of the purchased material;
  • the use of different shades of paving slabs that are fully combined with each other;
  • so that the appearance and shape of the paved part of the site correspond to the overall design of the facade of the house.
Concrete gray slabs

Additional requirements for sidewalk finishing are put forward:

  • wear resistance;
  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • standardized level of moisture absorption.
Finishing a private house area City square decoration

The range, colors, shapes and sizes of paving slabs from different manufacturers have minor differences, but basically:

  • the width of the elements ranges from 6 to 12 cm;
  • length varies from 5 to 18 cm;
  • thickness, depending on the purpose of the part, from 4 to 8 cm.
patterned masonry

For the convenience of developers who want to do their own laying, many companies produce additional trapezoidal blocks, the use of which helps to reduce cutting waste during complex installation.

The cost of tiles depends on the parameters, so the choice of thickness allows you to reduce costs.

  • Details with a thickness of 4-5 cm are used on garden paths and sidewalks in private homes.
  • The technology of manufacturing blocks with a thickness of 6 cm allows you to withstand low-intensity traffic. Tiles can be laid in public places with high traffic.
  • Paving slabs 8 cm are designed for use on the roadway and urban parking lots.

The tile is made by vibropressing, and all kinds of dyes are added to it.

Laying work

The technology that involves laying decorative paving slabs "Old Town" with your own hands is so simple that a person with zero experience can lay it out. It is better to lay on a specially prepared base, removing the roots of plants and trees.

Chaotic masonry
  1. Mark the site, fencing with pegs and construction fishing line.
  2. Before laying out the tiles, install curbs that keep it from sprawling. The border can be taken stone or plastic.
  3. Fixation of the curb stone is carried out on a cement-sand mortar, diluted in a ratio of 1:4 or 1:3, depending on the brand of cement.
  4. After installing the curb, allow the mortar to set for 4-5 days.
  5. Under the slabs, a base is made of finely ground stone chips mixed with cement in a ratio of 1:6.
  6. The crumb is leveled and covered with sand 5 cm thick on top.
  7. Spill the sand pillow with water and tamp.
  8. A dry cement-sand mortar is poured onto the prepared base in a ratio of 1:5, 1:4. The height of the layer depends on the thickness of the tile.
  9. The layout of the decorative paving slabs "Old Town" has 2 ways:
  • hammer each part into place with a mallet, leveling the area according to the level;
  • having laid out the entire area, tamp with a vibrotamper.
The slab track can withstand the weight of cars Plate color variations

In both cases, the main thing is to make sure that the level of the tile is even, that there are no protruding and failed parts.

After finishing the laying, the tiles are covered with a cement-sand mixture. Sweep the composition into all the cracks between the tiles. Then spilled with water. The process is repeated until the cracks disappear.

Options for laying paving slabs old town

In the ranking of finishing materials, the paving slabs of the Old City confidently hold the top positions due to the original design. There are laying options with longitudinal, transverse seams, a chaotic arrangement of paving stones. The compositions are diluted with colored stones, patterns and drawings.

Figured paving elements of the Old Town collection

When landscaping the territory in the courtyard of a private house, the paving slabs of the Old Town provide the developer with the following advantages:

  • profitability - no cutting waste, budgetary cost of the material, no operating costs;
  • design - for the Old Town collection, there are ready-made layout schemes, drawings and ornaments that allow you to improve the exteriors of the facades of the building, as in the photo below.

Important! For some modifications of FEM (for example, "Clover", "Rhombus"), manufacturers produce additional "halves" elements that stand almost like a whole tile, increasing the construction budget. These rules do not apply to the Old City collection, as it consists of tiles of different formats by default.

The Old Town collection consists of several tiles of different sizes

Tile characteristics

Figured paving elements (FEM) have the following operational properties:

  • abrasion - 0.7 g / cm2;
  • water absorption - within 6%;
  • frost resistance - F200 - F300;
  • strength - bending 50 g/cm2, compression 500 g/cm2.

It is possible to lay paving slabs on the blind area, paving garden paths, recreation areas, parking lots and the courtyard of the house, as in the bottom photo.

Configuration and dimensions

The Old City collection is a medium format mosaic, usually consisting of 4 rectangular tiles:

  • 12 x 6 cm;
  • 12 x 9 cm;
  • 12 x 12 cm;
  • 12 x 18 cm.

For paving the roadway, tiles 8 cm thick are used, parking in the courtyard of a private house can be decorated with FEM elements 6 cm thick. Layout schemes on garden paths usually include tiles 4–5 cm thick.

In the assortment of some manufacturers there are options for trapezoid tiles Old Town with larger / smaller face sizes:

  • 5.3/6.3 cm;
  • 6.3/7.3 cm;
  • 7.3/8.3 cm;
  • 8.3/9.3 cm;
  • 9.3/10.3 cm.

The width of all elements is the same - 8.2 cm, the thickness varies between 4 - 8 cm.

Schemes and layout options

Any paving slab must meet the following requirements of an individual developer:

  • to improve the quality of track exteriors at minimal cost;
  • provide high performance laying in the yard of a private house.

The Old City collection fully satisfies these conditions:

  • there is no cutting waste, the tiles are cut only at the junction points to objects of complex shape;
  • it is suitable for paths, parking lots, porches, and other architectural elements.

The photo shows a complex junction finished with FEM elements from this collection.

Crossroad with two flower beds, lined with the Old Town.

General principles

When choosing paving slabs Old Town, the developer automatically expands the possibilities:

  • all rectangular and trapezoidal elements have the same width;
  • therefore, it is possible to lay tiles along or across the tracks in stripes, as in the photo below.

Important! The most difficult option for paving paths in the courtyard of the house is the scheme of the chaotic arrangement of tiles in the Old Town without longitudinal and transverse seams.

Decorating straight sections

For laying paving elements of the Old Town on straight sections, the following schemes are used:

To increase the artistic value of the composition, it is enough to buy colored stones, lay them at an arbitrary distance.

Adding colored tiles to enhance the exterior.

Colored FEM elements can be used to zone paths and playgrounds.

Making winding and radius sections

FEM elements of the trapezoidal shape of the Old City collection are specially designed for paving winding sections. The varying size of these elements maximizes the design on corners and junctions. However, if necessary, these same zones can be decorated with ordinary rectangular stones.

The main advantage of paving slabs Old Town is a rounded chamfer that imitates natural paving stone:

  • laying on the radius section begins from the inside;
  • the seams between the tiles are moved apart by a wedge, as in the photo below;
  • longitudinal seams are preserved, paving stones are oriented along the width of the path near the house.

Straight tile on a radius section.

Advice! Straight sections can be paved with ordinary Old Town tiles, and concentrated circles and radius sections can be decorated with wedge-shaped paving stones of the same collection.

Trapezoidal FEM on straight sections.

Drawing and ornament

Regardless of the laying scheme and the configuration of the paving area, the paving slabs of the Old Town model are suitable for integrating any ornament or pattern into it. There are several typical solutions, examples of which are in the photo below:

Advice! When using stripes, ornaments and geometric patterns, a preliminary virtual layout in a graphic editor is required. This will avoid trimming, buy the required number of FEM elements of different formats.

For the convenience of the home master, there are typical block diagrams into which the paving stones of the Old Town are formed.

Thus, the elements of figured paving of the Old Town are a universal finishing material for designing winding and straight sections for vehicle or pedestrian traffic near the house.

Paving slabs and paving stones provide ample opportunities to get a reliable, comfortable and beautiful covering for a garden path. In such a situation, it is very important to choose the right design option for paving slabs and choose the best option for its placement. To do this, let's get acquainted with the circumstances of paving, types of tiles and options for patterns of its laying.

Coordinating the features of tiles and paving zones

Of course, when choosing a coating for a track, we dream of getting a colorful and unusual performance. However, not every tile is well suited to specific conditions, and not every pattern is consistent with the existing landscape. The industry offers a number of collections of paving slabs, each of which has its own characteristics and its own name.

Paving stone size options

Among other characteristics, the thickness of the tile is decisive. So, for garden paths, a size of 30mm is suitable, on frequently used paths in the yard, paving stones with a thickness of 40mm will not break, for a reliable platform for a car, a coating with a height of 60mm is required.

To meet any need, manufacturers offer paving elements of various thicknesses for each of the forms. A coating with a thickness of 30 mm or less is called a tile, samples of a greater height are considered to be paving stones.

When choosing paving elements, one should strive for a minimum amount of pruning, as this significantly increases the cost of the material and the time spent on building the track.

It is obvious that smaller paving elements provide more opportunities to organize the required width of the paving without trimming.

Choosing a tile configuration

Undoubtedly, tiles of the correct geometric shape (rectangle, square, rhombus) are much easier to lay. Note that the amount of trimming is noticeably larger when using complex elements that will have to be cut near the curb. At the same time, the decorative value of paving elements of arbitrary shape is much higher.

Some manufacturers offer half tiles (for example, "Clover"), which partially compensate for the indicated disadvantage. Sometimes collections of paving stones consist of elements of different sizes, folding into finished figures.

Colored and gray paving stones - decorative value and material value

The decorative qualities and unusualness of the sidewalk are easiest to ensure by using a multi-colored coating. At the same time, the design can be chaotic, have a geometric shape, or consist of stripes directed at different angles with respect to the track. Note that colored paving elements are noticeably more expensive.

Turning to multi-colored decorations on the track, you should have a layout scheme, without which it is impossible to calculate the required number of elements of each color. It must be understood that the brightness and richness of the color of the real coating will be much inferior to the image on paper.

Laying paving stones and the shape of the paving area

The curvilinear sections of the paths are the most difficult in paving. In this situation, you have to perform a large amount of paving stone trimming. Thus, curvilinear, broken, radius shapes of paths and intersections with an acute angle should be chosen in the country in the following cases:

  • complex geometry is dictated by the features of the landscape;
  • in order to correct the outlines of the site;
  • intricate paving enhances landscape design.

That is, as in the case of the choice of colored or gray tiles, when planning the shape of the paths, the decorative qualities of the coating conflict with their cost. It should be taken into account that the larger the paving area, the less noticeable on it are the cut pieces of paving stones installed between the whole elements and the curb. At the same time, it follows from the laying technology that the perimeter of the path in the country house is framed by a curb stone that has the correct geometric shape.

To organize a fence in areas of complex shape, it is possible to use a vertically installed cylindrical curb, which will somewhat reduce the amount of trimming. However, such a fence costs more than usual and it is more difficult to mount it.

Popular tile laying techniques

For each tile collection there is a styling classic, which we will get acquainted with.

At the same time, in any case, it is very convenient and efficient to plan the layout of the tiles on the computer screen, which can be done independently even in a publicly available text editor.

This will allow you to quickly select the required type of coating design and easily calculate the required amount of all its components. To begin with, let's get acquainted with the general factors that determine the choice of the layout of paving elements in the country.

It is easiest to lay rectangular tiles in straight sections and along curbstones. Laying rectangular elements diagonally will require trimming each paving slab at the curb. Paving stones can be laid out with offset or coincidence of transverse seams, in pairs or at right angles. Tiles of the same size can be laid out in accordance with the pattern or in disorder.

If the tile has non-linear shapes, offset seams and various patterns of patterns are allowed. When paving paths with bends, the longitudinal joints for tiles with a length and a short side can be conveniently oriented in different directions.

The combination of paving stones with lawn grass allows you to harmoniously link paving slabs of any shape with a paving area. So that the elements of the drainage system (storm water inlets, hatches, trays) do not spoil the planned pattern, laying the coating should begin with them.

Large patterns are appropriate for large areas of coverage.

Colored paving elements with an axis of central or radial symmetry will help highlight the direction of movement on the track.

One of the options for laying paving slabs on curved sections is the implementation of wedge-shaped seams. In this case, the violation of the pattern is practically imperceptible.

Schemes of layout of paving stones "Brick"

Paving stone "Brick" usually has dimensions of 10x200mm and different thicknesses. Here are some examples of laying herringbone paving stones. In this case, the paving elements are located at right angles to each other, and the pattern is often oriented along the direction of movement.

A coating of this type can be laid with a dressing, that is, with a seam offset of 10 cm. If the masonry pattern consists of a half tile in the center, and there are 4 whole bricks around, you will get a "well" layout. Elements of two colors laid in pairs form a “chessboard” masonry. Paired placement of paving stones at right angles to each other is called blocks.

A few more types of paving stones layout "Brick" allow you to appreciate the wide possibilities for creativity and create your own ornament.

Paving stones "Brick" are very convenient at intersections, in corners and on steps. On garden paths with a thickness of 8 cm and laying on the mortar, such an element can serve as a border.

Laying "Rhombus"

Standard paving stone "Rhombus" has a diagonal size of 32x19cm. The special form of the paving element provides for only one layout scheme. However, the use of a coating of different colors provides several decorative varieties.

Laying a "rhombus" with a hexagon provides for the contact of three tiles with an obtuse angle at a common point. Laying "ornament" involves the design of figures in one color. When six tiles meet at an acute angle at one point, it is called a star. To organize a 3D pattern, you need three tiles of different colors, two of them must be a shade of the same color.

Good news: some manufacturers offer diamond halves along long and short diagonals for laying near curbs and walls. A few examples of rhombus layouts using different colors will help you choose the right way to lay paving stones.

Options for using the collection "Old Town"

The collection "Old Town" offers 4 options for paving stones depending on the length: 60, 90, 120 and 180mm with a width of 120mm. In addition, there are two elements in the form of trapezoids with different slopes of the sides. This makes it convenient to paving curved and complex surfaces, organizing a variety of patterns and ornaments.

The transverse layout provides for the location of the seams perpendicular to the direction of the track.

The multi-colored layout option suggests any way of laying with respect to the seams.

The elements of LED lighting built into the coating significantly enhance the aesthetics of paving in the dark.

Chaotic layout allows you to lay tiles of different colors in random order. Obviously, in this case, there is a wide field for fantasy and self-realization.

Several types of cover design using the Old Town collection will help you decide on the choice of the required option.

How does Clover bloom?

Currently, the most common modification of the "clover", consisting of one tile measuring 218x267mm. Some manufacturers offer parts of the elements of the collection, which excludes trimming at the curb. There are not too many clover layout schemes.

A few examples of this type of calculation will help you decide on the choice of paving stones.

Wave layouts

Paving stone "Wave" has dimensions 11x22cm. Elements of this type allow stacking offset relative to each other and at right angles. The slight unevenness of the sidewall of the tile does not interfere with its laying along the curb without trimming.

A variety of examples of wave laying methods allow us to evaluate its merits.

Coil layouts

Paving stone "Coil" has dimensions of 17x20cm. "Coil" involves laying with an offset relative to each other, along the track and across.

Several photos of the coil layout explain the features of its application. If it is not possible to purchase ready-made halves of the elements, then with longitudinal laying you will have to cut each tile, and with a transverse one through one.

Examples of layouts for less popular collections

The "Old City" is varied.

Having dreamed up, you can lay out different drawings (fan, butterfly, flower, wave ...) and color combinations from these tiles with your own hands. A pack consists of 4 tiles of different sizes, but sometimes 3 (there is no smallest one). In the standard set: a large tile, a tile for 1/2 of its size, a square, a small one - 1/3 of a large one or 1/2 of a square. There are enough options for combining and creating your own unique pattern. And in different colors, a path, a platform or a pavement look even more interesting.

Such curly paving elements are increasingly popular with developers. Paving slabs are cheaper than stone, they are stronger than bricks, and with annual repairs, replacement of damaged elements, you will operate for about 15 years. It is used when laying garden paths or making playgrounds near houses in private, or for paving streets, playgrounds for children, near buildings, etc. Roads are also paved with "Old Town" tiles, it can withstand a significant load created by the daily flow of cars . To do this, select a thickness of 80 mm.

The laying of the "Old Town" tiles by private traders is often chaotic, with a pattern that they came up with. But laid vertically or parallel, it looks more harmonious.

The choice of paving stones by thickness

Tiles "Old Town" are produced in different thicknesses: 40 mm - light load, 60 mm - medium, 80 mm - maximum. You decide what thickness of tiles you need. If you plan to create a pavement for sidewalks, garden paths and do not roll carts with weights on it, do not drive a lawn mower and other heavy equipment, then a thickness of 40 mm is sufficient. If the load is greater (riding cyclists, for example), then take a thickness of 60 mm. And the most durable 80mm thick is suitable for paving roads, car parking areas.

Laying methods

In order for your site, the path to look neat and orderly, follow a certain pattern when laying. Choose your tiles carefully, considering color and size. In the Middle Ages, pavements were laid out with granite stone, picking up stones of different sizes, and they attached little importance to the creation of some kind of pattern. But such roads looked colorful. Take this method into service and create some alternation chaos when laying it. Try not to make repeating spots that are the same in color and size.

Review the diagram. Note that there are clear lines: transverse and longitudinal. Make them even. The laid out area looks much better with such clear lines. There is still a problem that without even edges in large areas, you will have to fit the curb, cutting off a part - this is not very aesthetically pleasing. Use a brick as a curb in curly masonry. Cover it up later. Border options available.

You can not follow these lines when laying, then you will hide some errors. A lot of time is spent on laying the "Old Town", and it is not cheap.
