Flowerbed between trees in the country. Trunk circles of fruit trees: features of care and design options. Option #3 - solar paints

Connoisseurs of natural harmony strive to turn a place in the shade of a fragrant linden, mighty oak or compact chestnut tree into a cozy corner of relaxation and solitude.

For some summer residents, the best solution would be to put an ordinary bench under a tree, while others are looking for original ideas.

In any case, a lawn under a tree can not only perform an aesthetic function, but also carry a functional load, serving as a place for a family tea party, an evening conversation with friends, or lonely thought.

Create a flower bed under a tree

A flower bed around a tree looks spectacular, and for inexperienced inhabitants, such an idea seems simple and easy to implement. However, when creating it, it is necessary to take into account the compatibility of the type of tree and ornamental plants growing under it. There are species that do not tolerate any vegetation in the zone of the near-trunk circle. Such individual farmers include birch, willow, spruce, walnut, larch, maple, irga, thuja and pine.

These tree species have a shallow root system and will overwhelm any closely growing plant, competing for nutrients and moisture. It is better to arrange the trunk circles of this group of trees in some other way than to create a flower garden doomed to death. Lawn grass will grow well under such trees.

However, with a strong desire in such cases, it is possible to create some elevation from the soil mixture in the form of a podium, the design of such a flower garden will be discussed in more detail below. Hazel and chestnut produce substances that are toxic to other plants.

Apple, pear, mountain ash, linden, oak, poplar, ash and fir easily let grassy neighbors under their crown, allowing you to create luxurious compositions.

Regardless of the type of tree, when planning and arranging a flower garden, you will need to take into account some more features of such a design project. Flower plants are selected only shade-tolerant and resistant to uneven moisture. These plants include all types of hosta, most groundcovers, dwarf conifers, some perennials (bergenia, periwinkle, Volzhanka, lily of the valley, saxifrage, lungwort, snowdrop, ferns, foxglove, violet, raven, slipper, Goryanka, anemone) and bulbous.

As a rule, flowering of shade-loving plants occurs in early spring, when the crown still lets in enough sunlight. Although the main decoration of the shady flower bed is decorative foliage.

Before planting flowers around a tree, you need to properly prepare the place. First, the top layer of soil is removed. This is done very carefully so as not to damage the root system of the tree. In some cases, planting is carried out in "pockets" between thick root branches. The bottom of the dug hole should be lined with non-woven material to protect the root system and restrain its growth.

Next, be sure to lay out a drainage layer of pebbles, broken bricks or crushed stone 10 cm thick. The removed soil is replaced with a nutrient mixture of compost, soddy soil and peat with complex mineral fertilizers. In the presence of rhizomes of weeds, it is recommended to carefully select them. Seedlings are planted in moist soil. Free areas are mulched with sawdust or wood chips. Complex flower beds of plants with different habits are made according to the principle: the higher, the closer to the trunk.

The shape of the flower bed can be either round or asymmetrical. So that the soil does not spill out and does not wash out during irrigation, the border of the flower garden must be marked using decorative stones or a border made of wood or plastic. The arrangement of flowers in a flower bed does not have to follow any scheme; chaotic compositions look interesting and natural.

DIY raised flower bed under a tree

When creating a flower bed under unfavorable trees, difficulties can arise due to the many roots penetrating the top layer of soil in the near-stem circle. Perennials with deep-penetrating roots cannot be used for the composition; it is much more profitable to plant annuals (ageratum, begonia, amaranth, annual asters, succession, carnation, gazania, lobelia, verbena).

To increase the space for the growth of the roots of flower crops, you can design a raised or multi-tiered flower bed in the area under the tree. For the manufacture of the side of an asymmetric flower bed, you can use wooden slats and plastic bottles, and for a round one, bricks, old tires and a plastic border are suitable. It is easy and quick to make a square wooden box from planks. It is important that the height of the soil covering the tree trunk does not exceed 10 cm. If the root collar is somewhat raised above the soil level, then the soil can be covered even higher.

You can make a flower bed of logs in an original and low-cost way. To do this, thick branches or the trunk of an old tree are sawn into cylinders 20–30 cm long, which, in turn, are split into halves. In construction stores you can buy ready-made borders. Harvested logs are treated with an antiseptic and dried.

Then the geotextile tape is cut off, to which the logs are attached with staples or nails. Geotextiles will protect the tree from moisture and extend the life of the curb. At the next stage, the finished border is buried in the soil around the tree and fixed with steel rods. After laying out the non-woven material, draining and backfilling the soil, the flower bed is ready for planting.

Resting place under the tree: bench and table

The trunk circle zone can be not only beautiful, but also useful. A round, hexagonal or square bench around a tree trunk and a table will successfully complement a well-groomed garden without requiring a separate place. The bench and table can have a different design, differing in style and complexity of execution.

Most often, garden furniture is arranged under birch, chestnut, walnut and willow. The main rule: buildings should not fit snugly against the trunk, be sure to leave room for growth. Wood is more acceptable as a material, but metal and stone are also used.

Of the breeds, it is preferable to choose larch - the record holder for durability and resistance to external influences. Less expensive options: pine, acacia, spruce and cherry.

The most common garden bench design is hexagonal, backless or high backed.

To make a simple bench with your own hands, you will need to do the following work:

  • preparation of the material (wide boards for the seat, 12 bars about half a meter long for the legs, 6 planks for the back, small blanks for joining and self-tapping screws);
  • section size determination (largest side = trunk diameter + 15 cm, smallest inner side = longest side length / 1.75);
  • cutting the parts that make up each of the 6 sections, while the cut angle should be 30º;
  • processing of all parts and places of cuts with an antiseptic, followed by drying;
  • assembly of sections, consisting in fixing the seat slats to meter-long transverse boards;
  • assembling the legs, which consists in fixing the outer and inner legs to a common wide bar using self-tapping screws, as a result, 6 prefabricated elements should be obtained;
  • fastening adjacent sections to the legs, in this case two parts of 3 sections each should be obtained;
  • fastening parts around a tree;
  • installation of back parts;
  • the finished structure is coated with a wax-containing impregnation.

A table around a tree of the simplest design consists of a metal frame with bars fixed around the trunk, and a tabletop consisting of several sections. The connection of the frame and the tabletop is carried out by means of wooden planks.

How to arrange a gazebo around a tree?

If the creation of a flower bed and a bench seems too simple and unoriginal, you can think about building something larger, for example, a gazebo or a cozy seating area.

A plot under a tree can be a great place for an outdoor garden gazebo. At the same time, the crown of the tree will serve as a natural canopy from the scorching sun, and if the shade does not seem enough, then you can plant actinidia - a fruit-bearing vine weaving along the branches with large leaves that protect from the sun and light summer rain.

A garden gazebo around a tree serves as a comfortable place not only for outdoor activities and communication, but can also be a great corner for sleeping and reading. Its design can be very different, the design depends on the overall style of the garden. A simplified solution is a small wooden deck podium.

If you add a low fence to the raised flooring, you get a fairly simple open gazebo.

For those who want to create more monumental structures and, so to speak, rise above the ground, buildings on high wooden racks can be advised. They look quite impressive, and allow you to enjoy the picturesque view of the site.

All considered design ideas for decorating a plot in the area of the near-trunk circle can be actively applied to any garden plot, adding new details and modifying the proposed appearance of the building. In addition to the options presented, the area around the tree can be decorated with pebbles, sown with grass or mulched with wood chips. In some design styles, this minimalism is the best choice.

Apple trees are long-lived trees. Often they are kept in the garden as a good memory of the fathers and grandfathers who laid the garden. There is hardly a person who would not enjoy the contemplation of their brutal wrinkled trunks and magnificent winter crown graphics. If such trees are healthy, in no case do not remove them.

The flower garden is located under the apple tree against the backdrop of the lawn. It has an irregular shape with clear boundaries and looks good from all sides: this is the so-called island flower bed. The apple tree itself does not serve as an element of the composition: it remains a little on the sidelines.

The tallest plants under the apple tree are clumps of panicled phlox, such as ‘Rayonant’, whose grayish-lilac flowers with a large carmine eye are collected in large dense inflorescences. It grows well in partial shade and blooms from the second half of July. Three daylily bushes with lavender-pink flowers are planted around the phloxes. The island flower garden is well suited for demonstrating collections, in this case, these are Astilbe Chinese varieties blooming in August from the relatively new 'Visions' series, about 50 cm high. -green leaves. In front of the astilbes, a shoot-bearing sedum is planted - a rug that feels good in the shade, blooming from June to August with light pink star-shaped flowers. In the foreground, there is also heart-leaved tiarella, decorating the composition with curtains of dense beautiful greenery, over which a flower cloud soars in May - June. Another mini-collection of plants was planted in this mixborder, consisting of varietal hostas with golden and yellow-green leaves.

The peak of decorativeness of this composition is the second half of summer, when not only phloxes, but also astilbes, daylilies and hostas bloom, but it is also good at other times - large hosta leaves, elegant carved astilbe foliage, narrow daylily leaves contrasting with each other in color are beautiful , shape and texture. In spring, you can admire the lush flowering of the old apple tree. To enhance the “sound” of the spring picture, you can plant crocuses under the hosts, and daffodils in empty places between other perennials: the overgrown plants will then cover their yellowed “tops”. And in September, astilba still continues to bloom, the panicles of which are interesting even after flowering.

Growing Features

Perhaps the only demanding plant in the composition is phlox. In order to get lush flowering, it must be properly fed. The first time this is done in the spring - nitrogen fertilizers during the period of intensive growth. In summer, you need to do at least two top dressings of phloxes: during budding and flowering, complex fertilizer with a large dose of potassium and phosphorus, and after flowering, complex fertilizer with an increased amount of phosphorus to prepare plants for winter. After flowering, faded “caps” of phloxes, flower stalks of hostas and daylilies should be cut off. In autumn, after the first frosts, the host leaves are removed, and on the threshold of winter, phloxes, astilbes and daylilies are cut.

A bright and cheerful flower garden in a rustic style is located under an adult apple tree. Fragrant sweet peas are planted in the near-trunk circle, which winds along cords tied to a tree. It blooms from July to September, and although it feels best in open places, it also tolerates a little shading. Likes in partial shade and digitalis with large white, pink, cream or purple flowers on tall peduncles. Many flower growers are fascinated by the delphinium blooming in July. So that its stems do not fall, they must be tied up. At some distance from the tree, a climbing rose with yellow flowers is planted on a support, and under it are rose bushes of the floribunda garden group. In the village flower garden there is sure to be a place for lilies: after flowering, they are covered by a large hosta. The composition is decorative from spring to autumn. In May, obrieta and seaside armeria bloom. Since June, aquilegia, foxglove, delphiniums, hybrid carnations and roses have taken over, continuing to bloom until frost. Asiatic lilies and astilbes bloom in July.

Growing Features

At the end of May, seedlings of annuals are acquired and planted according to the scheme with a distance between plants of about 20 cm. At the same time, sweet pea seeds soaked for a day are sown in open ground in a permanent place. Aquilegia is a minor, and so that it does not disappear, it also needs to be periodically sown.

After flowering, the shaving should be cut off, then the bushes will be compact and the plant will bloom again in the fall. Sweet peas need to be fed two or three times a season with liquid organic fertilizers; in hot, dry weather, they need watering. Roses need to be fed several times a season. They should be carefully monitored, taking measures at the first sign of the appearance of pests and diseases. It is also important to feed and tie up the delphiniums.

In September, the climbing rose is removed from the support and laid on the ground, spreading spruce branches. After the first frost, annuals are sent to compost, and perennials are cut. On the threshold of winter, all roses cover, shaving and carnations are covered with a dry leaf.

The topsoil is permeated with tree roots, but even in such an unfavorable environment, you can set up a magnificent flower garden. Trunk circles of trees will become a flower bed if you plant suitable plants in them, which we will now talk about.

In order for the garden to literally be buried in greenery, it is not enough to allocate a plot of land for a small flower bed and plant your favorite flowers there. Successful implementation of the idea of creating a picturesque artistic appearance of the garden will require you to use every centimeter of free soil. A lush and elegant flower garden in the suburban "gallery" of an experienced gardener can be found not only in open areas, but also in tree trunks.

A creative approach will allow you to turn the circles around the trunks into beautiful islands of continuous flowering.

How to use trunk "flower beds"

A rare suburban area does without fruit trees. Spreading crowns of these country "giants" with branched root systems take up quite a lot of space. Is it possible to use the "dead" space under the trees, for example, for planting flowers?

A flower garden in the near-stem circle does not require much attention, except for periodic watering in very hot weather, when trees intensively take moisture from the soil

It should be noted that young seedlings need a lot of light and water, so it is impossible to arrange a flower bed in their near-stem area, otherwise the nutrients will not get to the roots. In some species of trees, the roots go to a depth of 40-50 cm from the surface and are located horizontally. This should also be taken into account so that closely spaced plants do not harm each other and do not "fight" for nutrients.

The rod-shaped root system is more characteristic of the apple tree, mountain ash and hawthorn. Therefore, flowers and ornamental grasses find shelter under them.

Otherwise, the general principles are similar to the rules for creating a flower garden in an open area. True, with a small caveat - you should choose those plants that can easily endure the inevitable lack of moisture and light. It should also be remembered that the tree trunks should be handled carefully before planting flowers so as not to damage the roots of the tree.

What to do before laying a flower garden

First of all, pay attention to the composition of the soil and select plants based on this. They must be resistant to temperature changes and lack of moisture.

Using a small chopper or spatula, clean the top layer of soil from small roots, stones and debris. Determine the depth of the roots by removing some soil from the surface. You also need to find out how dense and branched the root system of the tree is. If the shovel bayonet every time rests on the rhizome, no matter where you start digging, then it’s better to look for another place for the flower garden.

By planting different flowers, you can create a variety of flower arrangements

If there are no other trees nearby, you can try to push the roots apart, forming small "pockets" for future flowers. Sometimes partial root pruning is required, but remember that the root system cannot be pruned more than 10%. Pruning the roots will also entail pruning the crown - cut it off in proportion to how much the rhizome has shrunk.

Cover the bottom of the dug holes (planting holes) with non-woven material or a thin mesh. This will help keep them from penetrating the roots of the tree and will somewhat restrain their growth.

An important factor in arranging a flower garden is proper drainage. So that the water in the flower garden does not stagnate, fill the bottom of the planting pits with a mixture of fine gravel, pebbles and sand. Half fill the prepared holes with a fertile soil mixture recommended for planting flowers, and mix it a third with the soil removed from the holes. Plant flowers in such a way that the root neck rises 2-3 cm above the ground. Tamp the soil and water abundantly.

What plants to plant in near-trunk circles

Most perennials prefer open, sun-drenched clearings. In our case, they will have to be content with those rare rays of light that will break through the crown of the tree. Therefore, choose shade-loving and shade-tolerant plants: dwarf conifers, bulbous and annuals. In conditions of partial shading, they feel best:

  • digitalis,
  • lily of the valley,
  • hosta,
  • nasturtium,
  • marigold,
  • anemone,
  • ivy,
  • primrose and others.

When decorating near-trunk zones, slowly growing plants need to be planted more densely in order to achieve a beautiful carpet effect.

The design of tree trunks has one of two main goals: a decorative effect and additional protection of the tree from insects. For example, nasturtium protects cherries and apple trees from apple sucker and blood aphids. Chamomile and marigolds repel aphids and nematodes, and lily of the valley prevents the development of root rot in stone fruit crops.

Ready-made options for arranging flower beds

There are quite a few schemes according to which you can break a beautiful flower garden under a tree. It is quite possible to equip even multi-level, semicircular (in the form of a crescent) or asymmetric flower beds. Consider the simplest options.

Option 1. Bright kaleidoscope of spring

To arrange such a flower garden you need to prepare in the fall. Clear the trunk circle from small stones and weed roots. After that, apply compost and organic fertilizers.

In the spring, plant bulbs in small groups, soon they will be able to sparkle with multi-colored "lights". Daffodils, tulips and crocuses are placed at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other. Plant corydalis tubers in the foreground. Plant a free place with a periwinkle creeping along the ground. If a cold snap sets in, cover the near-stem circles with spruce branches or foliage.

Option 2. We play on the contrast

The flower garden does not have to be round. You can create a small and neat asymmetric flower bed framed with decorative tiles. Bulbs of daffodils and blueberries are planted in autumn, placing them around the trunk of a tree. When the daffodils fade, low bushes of elongated leaves will remain in their place, which look beautiful until mid-summer.

Option 3. A piece of sun on the site

Early spring erantis (spring) delight the eye with bright yellow flowers and play smartly only when illuminated by the rays of the sun. Just in early spring, while the crown of the trees has not yet thickened, you can admire the colorful flowering of spring springs for your pleasure.

When forming a flower garden according to this scheme, you should first consider the pattern of the composition. Plant crocus bulbs along the contours, which will look elegant against the background of winter spring. After the crocuses have finished blooming, do not remove the flowers, but allow the plants to propagate by seeds.

This is how, with the help of flowers, even empty and inhospitable areas under the trees can be turned into bright and picturesque corners. Spectacular flower arrangements will decorate the garden with delicate colors, give it charm and fill it with a light aroma.

decoration of tree trunks

Many gardeners try to keep fruit tree trunks under black fallow or under a layer of organic mulch. It's boring and not very aesthetically pleasing. And why not turn these "islands of the earth" into a real blooming oasis?

And there is nothing easier! And let the "experts" assure that nothing worthwhile will ever grow under a tree. We know that the main thing in gardening is to be able to choose the right material for the intended composition. The task of choosing plants for the near-stem circle is complicated by the shadow that constantly reigns under the crowns of trees, as well as the presence of powerful roots in this zone, which will pull nutrients from the ground. Thus, you should choose shade-tolerant and unpretentious plants that can exist on poor soils.

Are there any restrictions in choosing plants for planting under a tree? If you have planted a small annual or biennial tree, hold the near-stem circle (with a radius of about a meter) under black fallow, remembering to pull out weeds, until the seedling is five years old.

This applies to both fruit and ornamental plants. If we are talking about an adult tree, then how can plants with a root system a few centimeters in size damage it ?! Deciduous shrubs, creeping conifers and perennials are planted under the trees, real English mixborders are arranged under them.

Apple trees on the background of the lawn

There is hardly a person who would not be delighted with the lush spring flowering of old apple trees. Often we keep long-lived trees in the garden as a good memory of the fathers and grandfathers who laid the garden. If such trees are healthy, arrange under them lawn. Put in garden furniture and you get a cozy living room in the fresh air.

Don't cut your hair

We have recently joined the garden civilization and mowing our lawns with enthusiasm. The British, for centuries, got tired of mowing lawns, so they came up with the idea of cutting only those parts of them that they walk on, leaving uncut, for example, the space under the trees. It looks very nice, it turns out a kind of touching piece of meadow with herbs. At the same time, we save time on mowing the lawn.

Spring in the garden of continuous flowering

A properly designed continuous flowering garden is attractive throughout the year. This is a real work of garden art, where each plant solos in the time allotted to it by nature.

It is good to plant under old trees daffodils. After flowering, you need to be patient a little so that the leaves can give all their vitality to the bulbs, which will ensure abundant flowering next spring. And after the leaves turn yellow, the lawn under the old trees can be mowed

Darmer under the apple tree

Under a huge old apple tree can be planted in a trunk circle peltiphyllum thyroid, its second name Darmer. In partial shade, this unpretentious plant is able to grow on any soil without any care for many years.

Peltiphyllum thyroid prefers semi-shady places. If growing in open areas, it has pale leaves and needs abundant watering. Peltiphyllum thyroid is moisture-loving, but does not tolerate stagnant waters. It is winter-hardy, but preventive mulching is desirable. Darmer develops well on moist, loose, fairly fertile soils. The plant reproduces in early spring by cuttings of rhizomes. After division and transplantation in the second year, darmers reach large sizes and acquire a decorative appearance. The plant is planted under trees along with other perennials.

A little bit of everything

The shady mixborder under the trees can consist not only of low plants. Decorates it and is rarely found in gardens. philipendula kamchatka.

Looks interesting here black cohosh with their two-meter vertical white inflorescences. Black cohosh is decorative since early spring , when lush, frost-resistant foliage unfolds rapidly.

And at the beginning of summer, when the heart-shaped, intricately cut leaves are firmly held on high and strong petioles. By the end of the season, having gained strength and waiting for short days, the black cohosh shoots fireworks of inflorescences, which are interesting even at the budding stage: slender shoots are studded with a scattering of beads-buds. In full bloom, the inflorescences resemble long (up to 40 cm) fluffy brushes.

In the scattered shade, low perennials can also be located: hosts, astilbes, cuff, foxglove, eastern doronicum. Various ferns also feel very good in conditions of high humidity, the carved leaves of which will add variety to the plant composition.

Under the trees, many spring small-bulbous plants also grow remarkably - crocuses, muscari, tulips, blueberries, galanthus, chess hazel grouse. This is due to the fact that they bloom in early spring, when the leaves on the trees have not yet had time to blossom and create a dull shadow. In addition, these plants are not at all demanding on soil conditions.

Comfortable in light shade and buzulnik, and small standard tree with a spherical crown.

Instead of the usual flower bed under a tree, you can organize a raised flower bed in a "pot" of vines. This design repeats the trunk circle with its outlines and resembles a large donut with a tree in the center.

In order to build such beauty, you should drive pegs in two rows around the trunk. Two circles are obtained - a larger and a smaller diameter. A vine is woven between the pegs, as in the construction of a wattle fence. Please note that the "fences" should turn out to be dense, without gaps, since soil will subsequently be poured between them.

If it was not possible to maintain the required density and the walls are riddled with many cracks, it is recommended to line the “flowerpot” from the inside with a film so that the soil cannot spill out during the wind or be washed out by rain streams. Now the only thing left is to pour soil inside the impromptu container and plant the plants. If the tree creates an openwork shadow, then lawn grass can be used for landscaping.

Even on a hot summer afternoon, it is cool under the dense canopy of a tree, so why not use it and arrange a real recreation area here? Such a solution will be the best if the tree is large, with powerful roots and crown. For example, you can build a wide bench around the trunk, on which several people can rest at the same time. When implementing this project, be sure to leave some distance between the trunk and the back of the bench so that the tree has room to grow, this is especially true for young seedlings. Instead of a bench around the trunk, you can set a table and arrange chairs.

And here is another solution, perhaps even more convenient for summer holidays - wooden flooring. Several boards connected with beams and raised above the ground will become a place where you can not only sit, but also arrange a sunbed, having previously thrown soft pillows on it.

If you make such a flooring larger and provide it with several steps, then you get a real terrace. Place here comfortable garden furniture, a few flowerpots with plants and you will see that this place will become a favorite for your whole family.

Planting optional

From an agrotechnical point of view, the best design for tree circles, especially for young seedlings, is mulching with organic material. This helps to retain moisture in the root zone, and also provides better soil breathability. To decorate the near-trunk zone, it is best to pay attention not to the usual mulch, but to decorative - wood chips painted in different colors.

The easiest way to fall asleep near the trunk circle decorative chips, very neatly done. You can "pave" it stones. It will be more original if you make the near-trunk circle square and plant in the corners small sheared balls bushes. There is a hint of regularity, which certainly needs to be repeated in some other garden element. In an English garden, most likely to use boxwood.

According to the websites:

Often the area under the trees is left without proper clearance. But in fact, this place can be used for flowers and create interesting projects in tree trunks. Read more about plant selection and design.

Features of the selection of assortment

Creating flower arrangements under the trees is fundamentally different from the standards of flower beds located in open spaces. The lack of sunlight obliges to carefully select plants that will actively develop in such conditions.

In partial or full shading, hosta, foxglove, fern, anemone, daylily will grow well. As well as ivy, lily of the valley, periwinkle, primrose, violet, lysimachia, etc. Under a dense crown that does not let rain moisture through, you need to plant drought-resistant plants or ensure regular watering.

It is important to take into account the individual properties of the tree and soil conditions. Sometimes such a specific atmosphere (red oak, conifers) is formed in the near-trunk that a lawn grows with difficulty. Conifers create a kind of "aura" that almost all plants cannot stand, except for the orchid family and heather. Birch is very picky about its neighbors, but favorably perceives carnation, lungwort, dicentra, ferns and lilies of the valley. Due to the lack of summer cottage territory, few people allow to have ornamental trees; fruit trees predominate here, more concise to any neighborhood.

Many flowers are natural companions and protectors of trees. For example, calendula, nasturtium and marigolds prevent the reproduction of aphids and nematodes on apple trees, plums, and pears. Lilies of the valley protect cherries, cherries from fruit rot. When laying out a flower garden, you can use these facts.

In the garden area, the best option would be a near-stem decor from early flowering species. It looks amazing before the foliage blooms and harmonizes during the flowering period of fruit trees with the multi-colored hyacinths, tulips, blueberries, muscari, daffodils, scylla, etc. Such an organization favorably affects the flowers, since in spring there is still no crown density, and there is enough sun.

How to draw a trunk circle

The principles of organizing a flower bed under a tree are the correct selection of an assortment of plants. There is another important factor influencing the composition of compositions: the depth of the root system of colors. Usually, in the projection of the crown, the roots of the tree are located close to the surface, and one should not count on full digging. Focus on a shallow landing with little depth. In the future, care for the flower bed will be careful: mainly weeding and loosening, and minor top dressing.

Any options for compositions can be used. More often this is a classic arrangement of flowers in a circle, that is, a round flower bed is made. High species are located near the trunk, with a uniform decrease in the height of flowers towards the edges.

If the tree is located on the edge of the site, is close to the structure and is visible only from one side, the flower bed can be made one-sided. The shape is chosen arbitrary (semicircle, crescent, angular asymmetry).

A flowerbed under a tree looks spectacular from flowers of the same species, this option is called a "monoflower". Naturally, it will bloom at a certain time, although due to the selection of different varieties, it is possible to lengthen the budding period. For example, some varieties of asters bloom in July, and later ones will please in August-September.

A more complex flower garden, and for many desirable, will be a flower bed of continuous flowering. Here you need to use early bulbous primroses, summer and autumn blooming. The whole season under the cover of the crown will bloom zinnia, sage, cleoma, geranium. From August, Japanese anemones, chrysanthemums, asters, bell-shaped platycodon will open their buds.

There is an unconventional way to decorate trunks for a flower garden. A vertical support is mounted around the trunk, followed by the placement of plants (containers, planters, boxes, pots). If you prefer perennials, plant geyhera, ayuga, green-yellow cuff, yasnotka, iberis.

The desire for natural design is manifested in disordered, chaotic landings. The islets of daffodils, multi-colored spots of primroses, charming reflections of forget-me-nots and the brightness of tulips delight perfectly. The similarity of wild-growing, without limiters and edging of flowers, give a special charm to the landscape.

Stages of creating a flower bed under a tree

Having decided on the place and size of the site for flowers, you need to start with the preparation of the soil. The selected area is cleared of weeds. The soil is removed between the roots of the tree with a depth of 10 cm. It is convenient to do this with a small spatula or scoop.

The resulting inter-root voids are covered with a nutrient mixture, compost. Everything is abundantly spilled with water and left for a day to shrink. Then you can start sowing seeds. If seedlings are planted, then the free spaces between the flowers are immediately mulched with wood chips or crushed bark.
