Most often, the windows in houses of this style are rectangular and do not have shutters. Framing around them is present in almost every such building, it is made with thick boards or a concrete strip. Also, in warm countries, panoramic windows can be used on several sides of the building.

Wright does not accept the Historicism style of architecture that prevailed at that time, with its elements of elaborate luxurious decoration. He preferred minimalism in everything. Often, natural stone, or “wild stone”, as well as “stone-like” facing tiles are used in facade decoration. It is possible to use red facing bricks, marble.

The form

The first thing that catches your eye when you find yourself in such a house is the integrity of the space of the room with furniture.

Interior items are chosen to emphasize the elongated squatness of this style - there are fewer vertical lines and they are shorter. However, this does not mean at all that there will be little space in such a house!

On the contrary, the prairie style is high ceilings, panoramic windows, large spaces and a lot of light. In its pursuit of functional space, the prairie style is somewhat reminiscent of a loft. But if the loft was a historical necessity, then Wright's interiors are a historical innovation.

The interior design also adopted the angularity and segmentation of the exterior architecture. Square (or simply angular) lamps can create a special entourage - they simultaneously evoke associations with paper lanterns from the everyday life of Asian cultures and emphasize the strict geometry of the style.

A frequent design decision is the most simple monochromatic cabinets, a different color from the walls - every detail plays to create a sense of integrity from many angular segments. By the way, it is for this reason that in the prairie style, instead of the standard division into rooms with the help of walls, you can meet the borders of the finish: the kitchen with painted walls, and the dining room is finished with masonry.

In terms of color schemes, the prairie style relies on minimalism - neutral, calm and restrained. Of course, a few bright spots will not spoil and even enliven the picture, but the main "filler" will be calm and natural shades: white, gray, sand, brown.

What is interesting - despite all the emphasized naturalness, Wright's interiors are rarely painted green. Also, you are unlikely to find elaborate patterns or random colors.

Prairie style favors combinations, but only those that are neutrally perceived by the eye, and at the same time emphasize the characteristic features: angularity, segmentation, naturalness, simplicity.
