The best overhead gates. Features of the choice of sectional garage doors. The main types of garage door designs

The topic of today's article is garage doors. We will deal with the types of garage doors, with their technical characteristics, dimensions, what materials they are made of and what additional functions they provide. The main task of the information offered is to evaluate the designs offered by the market.

Types of garage doors

Let's start with the fact that literally 20 years ago no one even thought about the diversity of modern proposals. In those days, one model reigned - swing. Massive gates, always creaking, covered with oil paint, which peeled off over time. Although it should be noted that made of thick metal, such a design could boast of high security and burglary resistance.

Such gates served for decades, but were inconvenient in terms of comfortable use. In addition, in winter, it was always necessary to rake snow even of a small thickness in front of them, because the structure doors simply did not open.

Times have changed, and so has the range of garage doors. There are a lot of offers on the market and the problem, most likely, is the choice of a suitable model.

But swing gates are still on the market. And they confidently occupy their niche, because they have a low price due to simple manufacturing, plus, as mentioned above, high resistance to hacking. Such structures usually consist of two wings. There are also single-leaf models, but they are not so in demand. Purely constructively, each leaf is a rectangular frame made of a metal profile sheathed with sheet iron.

Now let's look at other garage door offers.

Sectional

These gates got their name because they consist of sections arranged horizontally and interconnected by hinges. The number of sections varies from 4 to 6, the width of each is within 35-61 cm, the length is up to 7 m. Sections can be insulated or not insulated. In the first case, a slab insulation is used, sheathed on both sides with a finish, so the thickness of the sections becomes large - up to 42 mm. Be sure to lay an elastic seal along the contour of the sections.

The requirement for the heat-insulating layer is the minimum water absorption. Therefore, polyurethane foam is most often used as a heater, rarely polystyrene foam. As a material for the manufacture of sections, galvanized steel sheet up to 1 mm thick, aluminum alloys or wood (expensive option) are used.

Purely structurally, sectional garage doors are sections connected by hinges. Rollers are fixed on the sides, which contribute to the movement of the gate structure when opening and closing. Guide elements are installed under the rollers, consisting of two parts: vertical and horizontal. The parts are interconnected by an arcuate element.

On our website you can find the most . In the filters, you can set the desired direction, the presence of gas, water, electricity and other communications.

That is, when the gate is opened, it rises up, where it is located under the ceiling in a horizontal position. This modification is automatic, therefore, a special type of electric motor is mounted under the ceiling for it. He pulls the entire structure towards himself with a cable or chain. But it also provides a manual way of opening. This is in case the garage is de-energized.

The design of sectional garage doors allows them to be installed in openings of any size. They harmonize well with roofs of various shapes. Experts assure that this variety is the most versatile in terms of architectural content.

As for the exterior finish, manufacturers today offer painted gates covered with plastic or heat-resistant glass, aluminum plates or wood. On the market you can find models with a gate. Expensive, but functional enough.

Benefits of sectional garage doors include:

    space saving both inside the garage and outside it;

    insulated model has good heat and sound insulation characteristics;

    size versatility, the dimensions of the gate are selected for significant openings - width up to 7 m, height up to 6.

And a few drawbacks:

    low burglary resistance;

    high price;

    complex structure- Difficult repair.

We add that sectional doors can be installed not only vertically. There are models that open along the walls. They are installed inside the garage, where two guides are mounted: one on the floor, the second on the wall of the room. The photo below shows this sectional model.

lifting and turning

From the name itself, it becomes clear that the gate makes two movements when opening: lifting and turning. And they do them at the same time. In the end, the entire structure is under the ceiling in a horizontal arrangement.

Purely constructively, these gates are one solid canvas that completely covers the opening. In order for the closure to be airtight, a sill with a height of 3 cm is constructed from below, against which the lower frame of the canvas rests. An external frame is installed from the sides, into which the canvas drives.

The movement itself is lifting and turning, provided by a hinged-lever mechanism. At the same time, the gate can be opened and closed both manually and with the help of an electric motor. But the scheme of movement of the structure itself causes some inconvenience. For example, the lower part of the canvas necessarily goes beyond the garage, by about 1 m. That is, it will not work to put the car close to the gate.

Source mirvorotrnd.ru

As for the sizes, there is a rather meager range compared to the previous model. The maximum possible canvas size is 6 m wide, 2.2 m high. But in terms of finishing, there are more possibilities. For example, you can install windows or a gate in the door leaf.

So, the advantages of up-and-over doors:

    simplicity of design;

    low price;

    compactness;

    no need to clean the snow in front of the garage;

    easy to equip with automation.

And disadvantages:

    they can only close rectangular opening;

    if repair is required, then it can't be partially done., only the entire structure;

    not the highest burglary resistance;

    no car can drive right next to the garage.

Rolled

This type of garage door got its name due to the fact that purely structurally this is a canvas consisting of lamellas 1.5-2.0 cm wide, which, when opened, roll up onto a shaft. The latter is located in the upper part of the structure and is closed with a protective box.

The lamellas are connected to each other by hinges. Usually, manufacturers produce these elements immediately insulated. But their thickness is not very large - up to 2.5 cm. It is impossible to make lamellas thicker. They will simply increase the diameter of the roll, which will complicate the opening process.

But such gates rise vertically, so they do not interfere with anything or anyone. You can open and close them manually or with the help of a motor, which is located on the shaft and is directly attached to it. As for the size range, the width of the opening should not exceed 3 m, height 3.5 m.

Video description

The video shows how roll-up garage doors work:

About the benefits:

    comfortable construction in operation;

    small the weight;

    diversity decorative design;

    does not take places neither inside the garage nor outside it;

    can automate.

About the disadvantages:

    quite high price;

    low heat and sound insulation characteristics;

    low burglar protection.

It should be noted that it is possible to install roller shutters on the inner wall of the room, on the outer wall or directly into the opening. In the latter case, the height of the opening is reduced by the size of the shaft with lamellas wound on it. This must be taken into account when installing garage doors.

Rollback

Sliding garage doors are a single leaf made of a metal frame sheathed with sheet or slab material. There are three installation methods:

    on the lower support;

    on the top;

    hung up to the console.

In any case, there are rollers and guides in the design of the gate. The first move the entire structure along the second. In this case, the opening of the gate occurs by moving them along the wall of the garage. It can be opened manually or with a motor.

Benefits of the rollback model:

    do not occupy places in the garage;

    easy to give in automation;

    are cheaper sectional, roll and lift-and-turn;

    high burglary resistance;

    not necessary shovel snow in front of them.

Disadvantages:

    concreting of guides and the installation location of the drive, which increases the cost of the product;

    required space along the wall;

    unable to install gate.

folding

This type of garage door is not very popular among our compatriots. In fact, this is a design of two sections connected pivotally. The gates open by folding the sections like books and slide outward, gathering horizontally.

Video description

Watch the video where the owner of this gate talks about its design, details, and how it works:

There is a variety in this category in which sections are folded horizontally. In this case, the number of sections can be quite large, it all depends on the width of the opening. The design contains two pairs of guides: upper and lower, along which the section rollers move. At the same time, the sections assembled in a book are located along the wall when the gate is opened, without taking up much space.

Conclusion on the topic

So, we have dismantled all the garage doors that manufacturers offer today. As you can see, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. But the main requirement for all structures is high burglary resistance. Unfortunately, neither rolled nor sectional models can boast of this. Although they are the most convenient to use. Therefore, putting them on garages that are not guarded is not worth it.

Optimally in such cases, swing structures. They have passed the test of time, they have proven themselves only on the positive side. In addition, installing a gate in them is not a problem, it does not take much money and time.

The choice of sectional doors is a very responsible and serious issue. The safety of the premises, as well as the convenience, comfort and durability of their operation depend on the choice of their variety.

To choose the right option, you need to know the features of their device, the types of sandwich panels (sections are made of them) and the types of lifting mechanisms.

Before proceeding with the choice, consider the types of sectional doors, in accordance with various classification features.

Types of gates from sections

Depending on the type of control, sectional doors are:

  • with manual control;
  • with remote control;
  • with automatic control.

Sectional doors, controlled automatically, are remotely controlled and permanently controlled.

Depending on the thermal insulation properties of the canvas, there are cold and warm type gates. Cold web types are used in industrial garages, car parks and car washes. "Warm" canvas has become more widespread in household garages.

So which sectional door is best?

We study the design features

When developing the idea of sectional doors, the designers pursued the goal of achieving the maximum possible maneuverability of the leaf, while maintaining burglary resistance and good thermal insulation of the room. Other types of lifting structures, unfortunately, are not without these shortcomings.

  • Vertical roller shutter doors are very space-saving, extremely maneuverable, but lose in terms of thermal insulation due to the numerous gaps between the slats.
  • Lift-and-turn gates - well protect the premises from burglary, ideal in terms of thermal insulation, but for their normal operation they need a fairly large space inside the premises.

Sectional vertical doors do not have these shortcomings: when opened, they are placed under the ceiling of the garage, without requiring additional space. At the same time, they provide excellent thermal insulation of the room.

Good thermal insulation properties are explained by the structure of the canvas (it is formed by sandwich panels interconnected by means of loops). The movement of the door leaf is carried out by a torsion system.

It is balanced by a spring. On both sides of the gate are fixed guides. On the side of the panel there are rollers that ensure free movement of the canvas along the vertical and a smooth transition to the horizontal plane.

During opening, the door leaf is refracted several times and, ultimately, is located in a plane parallel to the plane of the ceiling. The load of the gate due to its mass is partially compensated by the spring, which makes it possible to open them not only with the help of an electric drive, but also manually.

Ratchet couplings are designed to ensure the safety of the structure (they block the gate when the cables break, preventing them from falling). Such a security measure is not at all superfluous, given that the leaf of such a gate weighs from 100 to 300 kg.

Therefore, in order to choose the right sectional door, you need to pay attention to how it is arranged and from what materials the lifting mechanism is made.

Automatic drive: study, choose

The presence of an electric drive allows you to control the system without leaving the car (this is especially valuable in bad weather). If the gate has standard dimensions (2m x 4m), an electric drive with a power of 0.2 - 0.5 kW is quite enough.

The transmission mechanism allows you to securely lock the garage. The presence of built-in sensors - at first glance, a minor, but very important detail. If necessary, these sensors stop the movement of the door leaf, avoiding damage to it.

If there is no electric drive, sectional doors can also be opened manually (in this case, unlocking is done using a special key).

Based on all of the above, the following conclusions can be drawn:

  • The key to unlock the gate must be available.
  • Automation should be selected from well-known manufacturers, and its resource should be approximately 25 thousand opening and closing gates.

Features of the choice of sandwich panels

As a rule, sandwich panels consist of two galvanized sheets, between which a polyester or polyurethane foam insulation is placed. In addition, a decorative coating is applied to the surface of the sandwich panels.

In order to prevent the penetration of cold air between the sections, special plugs are used. Thanks to this, the panels of the sectional doors adjoin each other quite tightly.

When choosing sectional doors, you need to pay special attention to the presence of a special elastic seal on the bottom panel. Due to its features, such a sealant is not afraid of temperature changes and does not allow the canvas to freeze to the floor at low temperatures.

If desired, a wicket door can be provided in the construction of sectional doors.

If you care about the insulation of the garage, you should consider the thickness of the sandwich panels.

  • "Warm" panels have a thickness of 35 to 45 mm.
  • The thickness of the "cold" canvas is 20 mm. Such an "economical" option is acceptable for a garage room that is not heated.

A special variety is panoramic sectional doors, which provide a good view of the room from the outside. This property is used in auto repair shops, car dealerships.

The panels of such gates are represented by aluminum structures with double-glazed windows inserted into them. Such gates use high-strength plexiglass, honeycomb glass, polycarbonate, resistant to mechanical damage.

Panoramic sectional doors are equipped with a coating that protects them from the accumulation of condensate.

There are such types of them:

  • with continuous glazing;
  • with partial glazing;
  • with combined use of sandwich panels and glazing.

Selection of sectional doors according to the "cost" factor

In fact, sectional doors are not the cheapest pleasure. In pricing, an important role is played by the brand of the manufacturer, the features and properties of materials, the types of decor used.

High-class sections are quite expensive, because valuable wood, forged parts, author's design elements are used for their decorative finishing. The gate leaf, more affordable, is made in various colors.

This allows you to harmoniously fit the gate into the landscape design. The canvas can be decorated with a pattern or relief decor.

Is it possible to save on the cost of the gate without sacrificing quality? If you have a certain amount of technical knowledge, this is quite possible.

It is only important to choose high-quality parts from companies engaged in the production of components for assembling sectional doors with your own hands.

The best garage doors are those that serve as reliable protection for the premises and are easy to use. Another important factor is their production.

After all, if you do it yourself, then the price will be much lower. Today we will consider which garage doors are better.

After all, the design of the garage will play a significant role here. But in any case, if there is automatic equipment on the gates, then they will be simply convenient.

How to install automatic gates: useful tips

Automatic gates are especially popular in the modern world, because they are not only reliable, practical, but also luxurious, and many owners dream of such a design. But making the right choice of automatic gates is not as easy as it seems, because it is necessary to observe some subtleties and nuances.

So:

  • Linear automation, as a rule, works on the principle of rod movement, today such a design is in demand and popular.
  • The lever drive resembles a human arm bent at the elbow, which is connected by a movable hinge.
  • If these options do not suit you, then you can use the underground drive, it is famous for the fact that you can hide the automation, thereby maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the gate as a whole. Of course, this option is the most common, but you must be aware that they are not cheap.
  • If you have never had the opportunity to observe the operation of such mechanisms, then you can do this by watching video clips on sites, then you can understand that they are really unique.
  • Today, a huge number of organizations have been created that sell consumables, gates from the best manufacturers, so you can always purchase a design that will be of high quality and durability.

Attention: When automating swing gates, as a rule, it is customary to use either linear or lever drives. Speaking about the first option, then know that they are cheaper, but they are able to withstand heavy gate structures, which cannot be said about lever options.

  • Today, many people want to purchase, for the simple reason that they are famous for their simple design, moreover, they are ideal for implementing the idea associated with their installation. After all, you can do the work with your own hands, if you follow only some stages of work.
  • At the very beginning, you need to make a mounting frame, frame, gate trim, after which you need to manufacture hinges, locks and locks (see). The surface of the gate is painted, this is done in order to prevent the formation of corrosion and various damage.

Types of automatic gates

Which garage door will be better in your particular case, we will now consider in detail. After all, every product has its pros and cons.

Therefore, before choosing, it is worth studying the design in detail, watching photos and videos, and collecting as much information as possible.

Sliding automatic gates - safe and practical

Such gates are a solid sheet, which is completely retracted in one direction or another, they are often called sliding.

Attention: But remember that such gates are not able to provide complete and effective sealing of the interior, moreover, it creates serious problems associated with keeping warm in winter.

  • You do not need space outside the garage to open. But there is a drawback here, you must have free space for the length of the canvas away from the room. When choosing, you need to pay special attention to this.
  • This design is quite stable in wind gusts. No need to worry now that the car will be scratched by the door leaf.
  • Automation for such gates will be much cheaper than swing gates.
  • , and it is not so difficult, compared to other automatic gates.

Automatic lifting gates

Such gates are considered the most efficient, they are able to permanently solve the problem associated with saving space, so you can safely purchase them, knowing for sure that this is the case. Important advantages of such designs are thoughtfulness and functionality.

In general, lifting structures have many varieties, which means that if you wish, you can choose the design of this type that is perfect for you. Or make them yourself (see).

roller shutters

Roller shutters are distinguished by the fact that they are considered the most compact designs. The door leaf is a roll, it can be wound on the shaft in a matter of time.

So:

  • If you decide to purchase roller shutters, then know that they will serve for many years, because indeed durability is considered their important advantage. As you yourself understood, such designs are able to save space, but this is important.
  • But many people are reluctant to purchase them, as they create a large number of gaps, so decide what you should do.
  • As soon as the first frosts come, the owner of such structures immediately faces some serious problems, this concerns icing of the doors, freezing of the canvas to the floor, etc.

Lift-and-turn gates

It is customary to make such gates from a single piece of fabric, the basis of such structures is sandwich panels, it can also be a thin layer of corrugated board. They are able to provide a snug fit to the door frame, as a result, you can enjoy the excellent sealing of the garage.

  • As soon as such gates are raised, the canvas is hidden inside the garage under the ceiling, which, of course, is convenient. This is achieved thanks to the hinged lever mechanism.
  • You will definitely appreciate the silent movement of the shield, which makes this design popular and widespread, it is also burglary resistance, as well as a snug fit to the frame, so when you purchase this design, you will appreciate these advantages as you should.

Attention: Rapid wear of the springs is considered a disadvantage of such designs, it is also not cheap, which means that not everyone can afford to buy it.

Garage automatic sectional doors

Of course, if we talk about the common types of lifting doors in general, then such gates deservedly occupy one of the leading positions today. If you wish to purchase such gates, you can see for yourself that this is the case.

  • Such gates are distinguished by reliability, durability and practicality, moreover, they have a chic appearance, which means that in any case they will please you, so the decision is up to you.
  • The door leaf can be easily lifted, and as for the shield, it is customary to make it from panels that are hinged to each other.
  • Doors should exceed the width of the doorway by approximately 30-50 mm. After all, this is the most important condition, which means that it must be taken into account.
  • As soon as the structure rises, the canvas begins to refract, after which it is neatly folded under the ceiling, this is done either vertically or horizontally, possibly at an angle.
  • If the need arises, you can always make a door in the gate, but be sure to keep in mind that this will lead to a serious increase in the cost of the product, but if this does not scare you, then, of course, there should be no problems.
  • designed for the garage are famous for their versatility, compactness, durability and practicality, which means you will appreciate them in any case.

Attention: The "capriciousness" of the mechanism, as well as rapid wear and tear, are considered disadvantages of this design, so you should know about this in advance.

Now you yourself must choose for your garage those gates that are ideal for this room and will serve for many years. After all, you can do this without any problems, so decide.

And how best to make a garage door you decide according to your design. Instructions for installing any type of gate are on our website.

Seven varieties of such structures are produced: swing, retractable, folding, roll, lifting and rolling, lifting and turning and sectional. Lift-and-turn and sectional are still in the greatest demand. Swing and retractable were well known to us before, they are still produced mainly by domestic companies. For some reason, the practical Western consumer did not accept these models.

Swing

They require a rigid frame and dual drive, as well as a large free space, carefully cleared of snow and debris. Equipped with two wings that swing forward or inward. Attached to the hinges to the pillars or to the built-in frame. Sheathed with any suitable material. It is allowed to embed an additional small one. It is convenient to use it when there is no need to take the car out.

Rollback

The metal plate covering the entrance rolls away. Therefore, they need additional room width to accommodate the canvas outside the opening. Whereas free space in front of them is not required to open the door. They can be equipped with automation, used as entry gates in the fence. They have a large margin of safety, are stable.

folding

Consist of several sections, can open to the side or up. The angle of inclination, depending on the number of elements, varies from 90 to 180°. The room for them should be slightly larger in volume. We need a margin of length and width so that the vertical sashes can freely fold like an accordion. In addition, to accommodate the plate drive mechanism, a margin of width or height is also required.

Rolled

Relatively new development. It consists of narrow (up to 150 mm) profiled horizontal strips (lamellas) pivotally connected to each other into a flexible strip. It is wound on a shaft fixed above the entrance. The panel rises vertically, so snow drifts are not terrible. The car can drive up to the garage almost close.

The thickness of double-walled lamellas with heat-insulating filler in the inner cavity cannot exceed 25 mm. Otherwise, the roll into which the lamellas are folded becomes too large in diameter. It bends and gets stuck in the side vertical rails. In roll devices are used for low openings, often equipped with a manual drive.

Lifting and rolling

Similar to rolls. Only the blade rolls over the drive sprocket, as in a chain drive. It is placed under the ceiling in the open position. To do this, guide rails are installed along the opening and under the ceiling on the sides, and each lamella is provided with two support rollers.

The narrower the lamellas, the better the panel bends, which means that the height of the lintel may be less. On the other hand, the number of joints between plates and rollers increases, thermal and waterproofing deteriorates, and access for a burglar is simplified.

lifting and turning

Successfully combines strength and ease of opening in manual and automatic modes with relative cheapness. This is a solid flat canvas for the entire opening area (no more than 62.2 m2). It rises, fits under the ceiling with the help of a hinged lever mechanism. The weight of the device is balanced by springs installed on the sides in protective covers.

The panel is made of galvanized painted steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm. Due to the lack of guides, there are a number of additional advantages. They open almost silently. The plate can be pressed tightly against the frame, which improves the tightness. The height of the lintel (from the top of the opening to the ceiling) can be reduced to 60 mm. However, the used scheme of movement (kinematics) creates a number of inconveniences for the owner.

At the entrance, the car cannot drive up to the garage closer than 1 m, otherwise the rising plane may hit the car. From the side of the entrance, it is necessary to make a threshold so that it is possible to press the gate plate against it closely when closing. The threshold is low (up to 30 mm), but the car still experiences a slight push on it. During the repair, the entire panel is changed, partial replacement is impossible.

Sectional

So far, they are the most common. The panel is made up of horizontal sections. Therefore, when opening, it moves vertically upwards and retracts under the ceiling, as in the case of lifting and rolling. At the same time, sections can be wide (up to 500 mm), so only 4-6 pieces are required. This reduces the number of joints between sections, increases rigidity, and improves thermal insulation properties.

Systems are available in just two sections. For strength, they are connected with hinged hinges, and so that the plate cannot be forcibly lifted when hacked, separate side guides are made for the top. Sections are made of galvanized and primed sheet steel with a thickness of 0.8-1 mm and are single-walled, for cold garages, and double-walled insulated, 42 mm thick.

In the recommendations on how to choose sectional doors, it is emphasized that the insulation must have low water absorption. Otherwise, the condensate that forms at the interface between the heat and cold flows inside it can disrupt the operation of the equipment in winter. Polyurethane foam is considered a good, if not the best, insulation.

2. Assess the climatic conditions in your area

A warm room is a guarantee that the car will not need to warm up for a long time in winter, and also worry that parts will rust and fail prematurely. is able to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room day after day, protect property from frost, high humidity and wind.

So, assembled from sandwich panels with a thickness of 40 or 45 mm, in terms of thermal conductivity it is comparable to a brick wall of 55 or 60 cm, respectively. Additional thermal insulation is provided by a special seal around the perimeter of the panel. Moreover, due to the impressive thickness of the sandwich panels, the structures withstand wind gusts up to 120 km/h.

At the same time, they are reliably protected from rust and minor mechanical damage due to the application of zinc coating, polyurethane primer, as well as a decorative layer with polyamide particles (PUR-PA) to the surface of steel sheets of sandwich panels. The use of galvanized or stainless steel fittings also helps to extend the life.

3. Make sure you are safe

When deciding which garage door to choose, it's important to make sure it's secure. Especially if there are children and pets in the house. For example, the minimum gap between sandwich panels or lamellas should exclude the possibility of pinching fingers or clothing. The absence of sharp edges on the elements provides protection against cuts. Another important element for safe operation is the traction cables, which can withstand a load of 6 times the weight of the plate.

A serious question about the resistance of equipment to hacking. Unfortunately, attempts to find a gate that is beautiful, elegant and strong like armor are unsuccessful. Nothing will save you from a serious thief (and safes are opened, after all). But the system must resist the opening attempt as long as possible. At least 10 minutes for the police to arrive at the alarm signal. should be included in the general security alarm system of the house. It is useful to install several locks, latches and bolts in different places.

4. Select the type of control

Garage doors have to work every day and in any weather. Automation helps to make the process of their operation as convenient as possible. It allows you to open and close the structure without leaving the car. The electric drive can be turned on manually, from a stationary push-button station or using a radio signal from a remote control from a distance of up to 30-50 m.

Electric drives of different companies are structurally different, but all are characterized by low power (from 150 to 450 W). When working “to open”, the locks open automatically, the panel is pulled under the ceiling or the doors swing open. When closing, everything happens the other way around. The use of traction belts relieves you of the worries about their lubrication, which tends to drip on the roof of the car.

The design and composition of the drive devices and automatic control systems significantly affect the total cost. Usually they quote the price of a basic kit, which includes a frame, a canvas, a manual drive and constipation. Be prepared for the fact that for each additional element you need to pay extra separately.

5. Pick the right color

The harmonious combination of garage doors with the facade of the building and other protective structures is very important. You don't want the exterior of your home to look sloppy, do you?

Manufacturers offer a wide range of equipment design options: various canvas patterns, textures, a rich palette of colors according to RAL and Deutsche Bahn catalogs. In addition, a list of options is offered: built-in gates, windows, panoramic windows and ventilation grilles.

6. Select size

Standard Equipment Dimensions

Installation of equipment

Installation is possible at any time of the year, in any condition of the interior decoration. In this case, only the preparedness of the opening and the accuracy of its dimensions are important, which should be 20-25 mm larger than the outer dimensions of the frame. When installing flaps behind the inlet, its width is usually made 30-50 mm less than the width of the panel.

To accommodate the drive mechanism, the typical height of the lintel is 400-500 mm, but if necessary, you can find a model that requires a lintel with a height of 60-100 mm. Fragile openings can be additionally reinforced with welded structures. The lower edge is usually set at the level of the finished floor (with the exception of lifting and turning devices).

The installation technology includes six stages: installation of rails or frames; checking the position of the canvas; drive installation; connecting it with the canvas; installation of the automation system and general control with adjustment. The main difficulty is to set the frame and guides, while avoiding skewing the plate. To do this, you have to adjust the position of the support anchors. These brackets are attached to building structures with dowels or concreted in them.

Installation instructions using the example of a lift-and-swivel model:

  1. Having previously bolted the mounting bracket in the middle of the left post, install the sash with the frame in the opening at the required distance at the level of the finished floor mark. For the safety of work, support them from the outside with boards.
  2. Drill a hole in the wall with a diameter of 12 mm and a depth of 120 mm under the dowel, locally through the hole in the anchor.
  3. After rechecking the position of the frame, fix the middle anchor with a dowel (diameter 8 mm, length 80 mm).
  4. Fasten the upper left anchor to the frame, align it vertically and attach this anchor to the wall with a dowel permanently.
  5. Align the frame horizontally in level, then install the right post at the same distance from the front plane of the opening as the left post and fix it in the upper right corner in the same way.
  6. Slightly tilting the sash, check the tightness of its fit to the base by the size of the light gap between it and the threshold. If necessary, moving the frame at the bottom, achieve a uniform fit, attach it to the floor at the bottom corners.
  7. Having fixed the base on the anchors located in the middle of its uprights, fully open the sash and adjust the tension of the springs, hooking them to different suspension holes.
  8. Using pencil "serifs" from the corners of the structure on the ceiling, draw a perpendicular to its middle.
  9. Place the drive boom along the constructed line and attach it first to the wall and then to the ceiling using hangers and dowels.
  10. Having fixed the rods on the upper part of the canvas with bolts, connect them with cables to the mechanisms for automatic opening of locks and emergency opening.
  11. Adjust the position of the actuator limit switches in the "open" and "closed" positions using the adjusting screws on the actuator housing.
  12. Check the operation of the system first in manual mode, then do the same operations using the remote control.
  13. Pour concrete under the threshold. After it hardens, builders can begin to fine-tune the slopes, threshold, floor and gap above the sash.

We offer you to watch a video with an installation example.

We figured out how to choose automatic for the garage. It remains to determine the manufacturer. Of the products of Western manufacturers, equipment from Normstahl (Switzerland, Germany), Hormann (Germany), Clopay (USA), Meswac (Finland) and others is in steady demand on the market. Western technologies are successfully mastered by such companies as Aries, Roll, Style, "Elvina+", Simplex. Domestic products are produced by Vesta, Lepta, Erin, Rolclassic and others.

Choosing a gate is a very long and responsible process, so it should be approached wisely. Some people, when buying this element for a garage, first of all think not about quality or convenience, but about the fact that it has the lowest possible cost.

During operation, the owners of garages on which cheap models are installed begin to complain that their garage has been opened or the gates do not close at all.

Any system can jam, but in the case of cheap ones, this happens almost every time it is used. Therefore, do not be fooled by the low cost, because you yourself probably understand that free cheese can only be in a mousetrap.

  • When choosing a garage door for your garage, decide whether you need a gate that opens automatically or manually. Automatically more comfortable in the winter season, you do not have to leave the warm car interior to open them. I think you raise the hand ones yourself in what way they open. We recommend buying automatic gates only from the German concern Hormann, they are of the highest quality and, moreover, absolutely silent;

  • I think every man dreams that he would be warm and comfortable in his garage, even despite the fact that it is 30 degrees below zero outside. Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at those models that are well insulated and have a thickness of 30 or more centimeters. Also, when choosing, see if the model you like has rubber gaskets, it is important that the gate closes tightly;

  • It is also important to pay attention to the material from which this element is made. The best and highest quality models are made of aluminum and covered with a protective layer.
Some people claim that cheap models can also be of high quality, but in reality this is not true, aluminum is expensive and besides, automation is also not cheap equipment. As a result, it is not possible to make a good product for a penny, try to understand this and do not buy very cheap models.
