To make sure the doors close tightly. The door closes itself how to fix it. Unpredictable door behavior

There may be such a problem as spontaneous opening or closing of the door. Here you pass by the passage, and it opens. Leave the door ajar and the sash closes on its own. There are a number of reasons for such a problem, as well as a whole list of solutions to the issue.

Reasons for the independent life of the sash

Drafts from spontaneously opening doors

Spontaneous opening or closing of a door in a dwelling or in a structure of any type of purpose is a normal phenomenon that can occur both with a newly installed structure and with a ceiling that has already served faithfully for more than one year (or even a dozen years). The independent life of the leaf of a door product, for example, in a home environment, is an unpleasant phenomenon that causes a lot of inconvenience. This fact can not only be very annoying, but also lead to negative consequences. After all, we are counting on a certain degree of protection of the door ceiling.

Doors with a completely different service life need some care and periodic minor repairs, and if the door begins to close or open itself, then this is a signal for action.

But before it is rejected to take up the salvation of an important element of the home environment, it is worth studying the causes of such phenomena. After all, how else can we start repairing doors if the cause of such a misunderstanding has not been clarified.

The causes of door malfunctions are largely completely individual:

  • "Lumped" forward or backward door frame.

You can check this fact using the building level. The level should show the verticality of the hinged bar of the box.

Incorrect installation of the door frame relative to the vertical

Correct installation of the door frame relative to the vertical

  • Incorrectly installed door hinges relative to the axis.

This can be seen visually or verified by the applied level. Overhead or mortise hinges must be located on the same axis of the hinge beam. The shift of one of them can give involuntary closing / opening of the sash.

  • Poor installation of door hinges.

Groove for hinges at the end of the door

Poor behavior of the door leaf may be due to incorrectly installed hinges. Grooves could be incorrectly hollowed out under the loops, that is, a groove was made deeper under one loop, smaller under the second, or skewed.

This can be seen when one side of the hinge protrudes more than the plane of the bar post, or the whole part protrudes. The reason for the poor installation of the hinges may also concern unevenly made holes for fasteners with self-tapping screws. As a result, the self-tapping screws will be wrapped crookedly into the hinge bar, which pulls the element a little to the side.

  • Poor quality awnings.

If the box is checked by the level, and the hinges are planted evenly in the timber, then the reason for the spontaneous behavior of the sash may be the poor quality of the elements themselves. The hinges, after even a short time, could loosen up, which violates the verticality of the canvas. In this variant of circumstances, with a recent installation of the door, the hinges should be changed as defective.

The door frame and all the difficulties associated with it

The ideal verticality of the installed door frame is almost the main argument for the effective functioning of the opening overlap structure. If, when checking the level, as noted above, the inclination of the loop bar rack to one of the sides (forward or backward) is revealed, then this gives the canvas a spontaneous life relative to closing / opening.

Checking the installation level of the door frame

An exception may be if the building itself or the partition where the door is installed does not have a clear vertical. In this embodiment, you need to set the rack at an angle in the opposite direction.

In case of loss of the verticality of the rack, it turns out that the hinges are not correctly installed on the same axis, and give a slope to one of the sides. It is worth figuring out what to do in such a situation:

  • Opening outward (relative to the opening stroke) indicates that the slope of the leaf is directed in the opposite direction from the door frame.

The situation is corrected with a piece of material that needs to be laid under the upper canopy. Of course, it must first be dismantled, as well as before that, remove the sash itself from the hinges. If the situation has not succumbed to correction, and the door still opens, then it is worth taking other actions.

Door frame repair methods

It is necessary to re-install the door frame in order to align it vertically. For this you need:
remove all fasteners holding the rack;
remove the canvas itself from the hinged canopies;
clean the timber from foam and other building material with a construction knife or just a sharp knife;
level to measure the exact vertical location of the rack;

Hinge fastening and sash behavior in case of incorrect fastening

Drill holes in the beam for new fasteners using a long drill;
provide holes with dowels;
hang the beam in its original place, and using an electric drill, screw a couple of screws into the top and bottom hinges, which will help track the level of correct installation;
hang the canvas, and check its opening slope when open at 45 °;
after you make sure that the vertical installation is correct, the hinges can be screwed on completely.

The process of reinstallation is completed by knocking out the beam, new foaming of the gaps and installation of the platbands. The installation of the door frame, in this case, could not be correct initially, or over time it was somewhat led.

  • Closing the door leaf towards the door frame.

The door leaf must be raised or a stop placed under it.

Arbitrary closing of the doors will help to eliminate the same piece of material of suitable thickness, but installed in this embodiment under the lower hinge. To do this, the canvas should be slightly raised. If this does not help eliminate the defect, then it is worth doing all the same manipulations as described above. It is quite possible to fix each of these problems with your own hands, where you will need to re-install the door frame, that is, the hinge and opposite rack. Of course, when fitting the box, it may be necessary to re-insert the door hinges.

Loop problem solved

Spontaneous opening/closing of the door can be controlled by using a limiter for opening.

Decorative limiter for an interior door

This is effective, but, unfortunately, not comfortable with constant use at home. A door closer can correct the situation, but to install a hidden door closer, you will have to make a very laborious tie-in of the part into the canvas, and the overhead version is rough for use in a residential area.

So, if the opening limiter is not to your liking, and the box is installed vertically (measured with a building level), then the problem of arbitrary opening will be solved with the door hinges.

The markings for the loops should be done carefully

Even more so, if the door sagged, which is likely with a canvas made of natural solid wood, then the disorder is clearly with the hinges.

Door hinges are the main functional element in the door structure, and their failure disturbs the comfortable balance of the sash functioning. The problem with loops is common, but solvable. To do this, we will have to, if not repair the loops, then definitely delve into their life:

  • not completely, but by about a third, unscrew the screws from the upper or lower loop bar (depending on which way the canvas tends);
  • put a piece of cardboard under the plank, aligning the loop vertically;
  • tighten the screws, and check the installation.

Fasteners unscrewed for work

If self-closing began to occur, we recommend doing the same with the second loop.

Over time, the seat of the hinge fasteners may become loose. To do this, you also need to slightly unscrew the screws, about half, and insert a piece of cardboard or other sealant into the socket. Then screw the fasteners back and check the work.

If none of the above operations helps, then a new insert of the door hinges will be required. That is, move them from the previous mount. It is also permissible to simplify your activities by trying to drown them a little deeper into their own nests.

It so happened regionally that Belarus is rich in the most popular building materials for the production purposes of door blocks:

  • Pine;
  • Ash;
  • Alder.
  • Wood in this country grows everywhere, it is not in vain that Belarus is sung by dense groves and forests. Historically, doors from Belarus have always been the best, as the land also provided talented carpenters. So the availability of wood raw materials and the large number of craftsmen are reflected in the low cost of production in the consumer market.
    Interroom doors Belarus represents in the countries of the former Soviet Union directly from the manufacturer. A catalog with a range of quality doors will help you quickly and easily select any product with respect to the required standard sizes, in a variety of colors, a wide range of design and constructive solutions. Regardless of the stylistic interior design in the room, it will not be difficult to choose the ideal Belarusian product in terms of functionality and design. Belarusian doors: advantageous features in technological production

    On an industrial scale, in the manufacture of Belarusian doors, only environmentally friendly materials and modern technologies are used. So the end result of the fabricated product is in no way inferior in terms of aesthetic features and quality characteristics of the product of European manufacturing companies. Of particular note is the production technology of veneered interior structures.
    Technologically, Belarusian blocks are veneered in two types:

  • The veneer is ordinary;
  • Ecoveneer.
  • Veneer, as a thin cut of valuable species of natural wood, is known to many. The raw material has all the characteristics of a natural material, combining the magnificence of the wood structure and its beauty, environmental friendliness, as well as sound and heat insulation properties.
    Technologically, veneering is performed by pressing natural veneer on a chipboard or MDF base.
    The technology of exterior decoration of door panels with eco-veneer is based on the use of a slightly different kind of material. The frame is made of furniture boards, where tempered glass and Belarusian MDF canvases are used as inserts. The eco-veneer material itself is a heavy-duty raw material, the resistance of which to mechanical damage is comparable to hard plastic. At the same time, the surface of the texture is indistinguishable from natural wood, completely imitating the texture of wood. So the eco-veneer is quite pleasant and realistic to the touch.
    Veneered structures for interior purposes of Belarusian production are unique in their kind due to the peculiarities of technological manufacturing. Thus, the aesthetic naturalness of the product is preserved with the ergonomic use of raw materials with a pleasant quality, which is reflected in the retail value of the products presented at trade construction sites. The advantages of door products created by veneering on a frame made of MDF or chipboard, as well as the technology of veneering canvases with raw materials of valuable species made from solid wood, include the following indicators:

  • Lightness in weight compared to door panels made of solid wood. This indicator is positive, because it gives advantages in the transportation movement, and also during operation, the web will not sag under its own weight.
  • Veneered products retain all the characteristic properties of natural raw materials;
  • Veneer-finished products retain their external attractiveness for a long time: they are not affected by humidity, do not fade when exposed to direct sunlight, do not dry out at high temperatures and low humidity;
  • The price category of products varies in the average low cost of products presented in the range in the construction door market.
  • Belarusian production is simultaneously developing in various directions: design, technology, assortment. Marketing approaches are constantly evolving. In addition to high quality indicators and low prices, Belarusian manufacturers offer the consumer an individual approach and attentive attitude of specialists.
    Having picked up any of the options and design of the door, it is permissible to adjust the finish of the canvas, color, glazing, which ultimately makes the product exclusive. Such an attentive attitude of production specialists makes the products most in demand. It is worth paying attention to the leading Belarusian companies that produce demanded products:

  • The Postavy Furniture Center produces two of the most popular branded products: "Italian Legend", created from solid alder, and "Arsenal", a door structure made from pine wood. It is worth noting that the range of the price range reaches only $230.
  • The Doka company produces Belarusian oak door coverings for interior and entrance purposes. Regardless of the prestige of this brand and the valuable material of solid wood used, the cost of production is kept within a very democratic framework.
  • The commercial and industrial company "Vist" in Belarus is engaged in the production of various door structures in terms of style and price category, but the entire list of products is united in the reliability of fabrications. Doors made of solid pine, finished with precious oak veneer, are the most luxurious models presented in the range. The company also takes into account the availability of products that are in demand for cottages and other private buildings. These doors are finished with PVC film. Door prices start at $70.
  • Many large companies in Belarus use the latest materials processing technologies in their production, with the help of which the designs of fabricated products are prefabricated. This kind of approach to the manufacturability of processing is in the power of Belarusian manufacturers to ensure the quality of products with a long period of effective operation.

    The elegance of Belarusian products in pastel colors

    At present, the most popular are white interior ceilings of Belarusian production or a model range made in pastel colors of light shades. The attractiveness of interior door panels, created in pastel colors, is provided by decorative golden elements in the form of overlays on canvases, glazing, paneling and other decorative decors. The artistic design of the door panels in pastel colors completes the sophistication of the interior of any room and gives a certain elegance to the design.
    Belarusian typical doors look especially advantageous in the openings of bedrooms, living rooms, which are furnished in a classic style in ivory or white colors of the furniture solution. The pastel-colored door leafs complete the style and give harmony to the room, the design solution of which is reduced to a modern or semi-antique style. Fairly popular interior light doors, created from a type-setting array or solid, finished with natural light wood veneer with decorative glazing and other artistic elements. Among the assortment range of Belarusian production, there are such models in pastel colors as:

  • "Laguna" - color bleached oak;
  • "Standard" - gray oak color;
  • "Versailles" - patina. Door made of glued solid softwood and veneered with oak veneer. The surface is treated with a technology that imparts artificial aging to the cladding.
  • "Prestige" is a product with glazing, decorative overlays, fittings and golden edging.
  • Door products of Belarusian production have, in addition to all the advantages, an additional characteristic such as electrostaticity. This quality, inherent in the surface of products, does not allow dust to collect on the panels, which facilitates the care of fabricated products and external presentability.

    Interior doors in the process of their use quite often lose their appearance and receive minor damage. You can, of course, replace them with new ones over time, but why spend money if you can simply repair them. Provided, of course, that the canvas has not turned into trash. Most of the emerging defects can be eliminated with your own hands and extend the life of the door structure for a long time.

    Minor, minor damage to the door can be easily repaired on your own, without resorting to the services of specialists. For example, to get rid of small scratches or cracks, you must first putty the damaged area, and then sand it.

    The technology for doing this work is as follows:

    1. First you need to remove a layer of paint or other decorative coating, and then clean the surface from dirt and dust.
    2. After that, the gap is filled with a putty solution, which consists of sawdust and adhesive.
    3. After the putty dries, the place must be cleaned with sandpaper.

    If the damage is very small, for reliable adhesion of putty and wood, it is better to expand the problem area a little in size. But if there are very deep cracks on the door, sawdust, which fills the gap, and subsequent varnishing will help solve the problem.

    If the door is warped, the reasons for this phenomenon may be:

    1. Loss of any screw or screw - you need to carefully inspect all fasteners and, if necessary, install new ones.
    2. Incorrectly selected grooves for the loops - here you have to rehang the door.
    3. Too shallow recesses for canopies - in this case, they need to be made deeper.
    4. Too deep recesses for awnings - the situation will be corrected by some object placed under the hinges.

    The resulting gap between the box and the canvas can be caused by improper fixation of the box to the opening or unevenness on the door itself. In this case, you need to hang the door, and align the canvas with a file or planer, depending on how skewed the door is.

    The replacement of glass in the door must be performed in the following sequence:

    • Remove the door and place it on any flat surface.
    • Remove the glazing beads and remove the glass.
    • Take measurements for another glass surface.
    • Insert new glass, replace the glazing beads and hang the door in place.

    It should be noted that when measuring new glass, you need to make it 5 mm smaller than the old one. This is due to the fact that the tree tends to swell, collecting moisture, and the glass may not withstand the stress and burst.

    Tips: how to make the door not close itself

    Sometimes it seems that interior doors seem to live their own special life: they open or close themselves when they want. How to fix this and what to do in this case?

    If the door spontaneously closes, this indicates the presence of a skew in its lower part. Using the building level, you can find this place and adjust it.

    Perhaps the problem is in the uneven location of the rack - if it is even slightly shifted vertically, the door will “walk” constantly, and then it will start to get stuck altogether. The only way to save the situation is to reinstall the door frame.

    And you can try to fix the spontaneous movement of interior doors in another way, which is to create increased resistance in the hinges. Moreover, it is not necessary to adjust each of them. It is enough to bend one hinged "finger" in the loop. At the very least, two.

    What to do so that the door does not close itself:

    1. First you need to get the hinge. This requires a support, which should be placed under the door from the side of the handle (for example, these can be old magazines). This step is necessary in order to avoid dangerous pressure on the door hinges.
    2. Next, using a hammer and a screwdriver, you need to pull out the “finger” from the topmost loop.
    3. Then the pulled out part must be taken to some concrete or asphalt surface and hit in the middle with a hammer. This will give a nice twist. The main thing here is not to overdo it, otherwise it will not work to put the hinge in place.
    4. At the end, it remains to insert the removed part into place. The resulting bend will give the necessary resistance when the door is working. Thus, she will only be able to move if someone makes an effort.
    5. If this measure does not help, you will have to do the same for the other loop.

    This is how you can eliminate the spontaneous closing of room doors.

    Sagging and self-opening doors: how to fix the situation

    Sometimes it happens that the door, no matter how much you close it, tries to open itself and often causes inconvenience to others by such actions.

    The free movement of doors is a problem, although not catastrophic. A mortise lock can help temporarily “curb” the door structure, but anyway, sooner or later such a door will need repair.

    If the door often opens on its own, there is a warp in its upper part that needs to be corrected. It is likely that some of the bars are poorly secured. The angle between the bars should be 90 degrees - in this case, everything will be fine.

    If the problem is really in the distortion of the door leaf, you need to remove the box, connect the bars correctly and screw them well to the corners of the box with screws.

    By the way, sometimes it happens that self-opening doors are “born” due to a broken handle. It may simply not pressurize to the desired level. In this case, it is necessary to remove the handle and change its spring.

    One of the reasons for the self-opening of the structure may lie in the swelling of the tree due to its contact with a wet surface or high humidity in the room. To prevent the door from opening by itself, you can process the strapping with a simple planer, which will help eliminate this problem.

    But what to do if the door sagged? There are several solutions:

    1. One of the most common causes of a sagging door is the loosening of the hinges - in this case, they just need to be tightened.
    2. If the door sags due to small hinge grooves, they must be deepened. This can be done with an ordinary chisel, after removing the hinges and the door leaf from its place. Then everything needs to be put back in place.
    3. If the geometry of the door itself is broken, it must be returned to the correct shape using a planer.

    Here's what you need to know if there is a need to eliminate sagging or self-opening the door.

    The door broke or dried out: what to do in this case

    When the room is constantly low humidity or temperature fluctuations occur, wooden doors can dry out.

    The easiest way to restore a cracked door is to use metal corners. But it should be borne in mind that they can disrupt the appearance of the structure.

    How to repair a door if it is dry:

    1. You need to start by dismantling the structure: the door is removed from the hinges and disassembled.
    2. Further, all disassembled parts are lubricated with special glue.
    3. All existing cracks and places of drying out are carefully masked, after which the door is put on the clamps and dries.
    4. After the composition is absorbed, the structure is again hung in its place.

    Sometimes it happens that a breakdown is formed on the surface of the door due to physical impact. What to do in such a case? It is best to mask the hole.

    If the damaged area is at the bottom of the door, you can cut it out with a jigsaw and put a ventilation grill there, which should be selected taking into account the size of the hole and the color of the structure.

    If the hole is at the top or in the middle of the door, it is better to insert glass or a panel into the space that appears.

    Do-it-yourself modern interior door repair (video)

    Interior doors can work for a very long time without needing any restoration. But sooner or later, something can fail. No need to panic and try to urgently replace the doors. Everything can really be repaired with your own hands, without the presence of specialists. The main thing is to correctly determine the cause of a particular defect, and then eliminate it.

    More recently, magnetic latches were actively used in furniture doors. Theoretically, such latches can also be used for ordinary interior doors, but depending on the skew of the door or other factors, several magnetic latches may be required (why, is described below). However, special magnetic latches for interior doors are also being produced now. To install a magnetic latch, it is enough to have, at best, the latch itself, a few screws and a screwdriver, and in the worst case, you may additionally need a chisel, a hammer and a drill.

    3. Put a ball latch on the door

    Here you will need a ball latch, which you need to buy in advance, screws, a drill with a feather drill, a screwdriver, a hammer, a chisel and a pencil.

    4. Put handles with a latch-tongue on the door

    Here, depending on the model of the handle, wood crowns may be additionally needed.

    5. Align the door vertically

    why twist one of the hinges on the jamb or set the door frame vertically. However, this may not be enough and the door leaf or door frame will have to be planed additionally.

    For those to whom this answer seemed incomplete, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with a more detailed description of the problem and methods for eliminating it. So,

    The reasons for this strange behavior of the door can be only 2:

    1. The action of gravity due to the displacement of the center of gravity.

    When installers, when installing a door, periodically apply a level or a plumb line to the hinges to the door frame, they do this not in order to fill the price for installing the door, but in order to achieve the verticality of the axis of rotation of the door. If the door is set vertically, then the center of gravity of the door will fall on the axis of the hinges and the door will neither open nor close on its own:

    Picture 1. Center of gravity of a vertically hinged door.

    If we assume that the door is made of a homogeneous isotropic material having the same density, then the center of gravity of the door leaf will be at the intersection of the diagonals of the rectangle - the cross section of the door. If the door is hung vertically, then the centers of gravity of the cross sections at the level of the hinges coincide with the position of the common center of gravity of the door leaf, as shown in Figure 1. If the door is not hung vertically, but with a deviation along the axis X or along the axis z(Figure 2), this will cause the appearance of a horizontal component of the vertically acting gravity, and the greater the deviation from the vertical, the greater the horizontal component of gravity.

    Figure 2. The appearance of the horizontal component of gravity when the door is not vertically hung.

    The door leaf may shift relative to the vertical axis over the years due to subsidence of the foundation or other reasons. ;As can be seen from Figure 2, the greater the distance between the card hinges of the door, the smaller the value of the horizontal component, and the smaller the mass of the door, the smaller the force that demonically constantly opens the door. If the door is not hung vertically along the axis X , then the shift in the center of gravity of the door leaf will be quite insignificant when the door is closed, but it will have a good effect when the door is open 90 degrees. Additionally draw the displacement of the center of gravity of the door leaf when moving along the axis X , did not, I think it's clear. For the case shown in Figure 2, i.e. when the door height is about 2m, the hinges are screwed at a distance of about 20cm from the top and bottom of the door leaf, and the deviation from the vertical center of gravity of the door is 1cm, we can even calculate the value of the horizontal component of gravity. Figure 2 below shows the position of a vertical door leaf in yellow and a non-vertical door leaf in sand. In this case, the displacement of the center of gravity of the door leaf can be considered as the action of the horizontal component of gravity. In this case, it will be ~ 1/80 of gravity. Those. if the door leaf weighs 30 kg, then a force of 0.375 kg will act in the center of gravity of the door leaf, and on the edge of the door leaf, where we are going to stuff the skin, put a ball latch, etc. a force of ~ 0.19 kg will act. To eliminate the effect of this force, as we have already said, you can:

    1. By the force of friction, namely, this force we put into action when we fill a piece of leather on a door jamb or door leaf.

    2. Magnet attraction magnetic latch.

    3. Force of spring elasticity. In a ball latch, the ball is returned to its original position by a spring. The stronger the spring, the more secure the ball latch.

    4. Rehanging the door.

    However, the above methods may not always help, because there is another reason why the door is constantly opening.

    2. The action of the elastic force due to interference when closing the door.

    Old doors, and we mean old wooden doors, over time, for a number of reasons, change their geometry. The door leaf can be bent, skewed, etc. Fans of painting doors add fuel to the fire, and after all, each new layer of paint is a change in the geometry of the door leaf and the door jamb. When there are two or three layers of paint on the door, then you can ignore this, but when the number of layers of paint exceeds ten, then the likelihood that the paint will interfere with the normal closing of the door is very high. In such cases, only pulling the door leaf or door jamb, rehanging the door leaf, or installing handles with a latch tongue can help.

    6. In addition to the above methods, various kinds of springs and automatic closers are often used to close the door, and in such cases they can also be used.

    Sometimes the door opens on its own. What to do in such a situation? Spontaneous opening of the door is most often associated with poor installation of the door frame. This interior door starts to hit the wall, it can hit the stopper. The result is rapid wear. This may be a sign of sagging interior doors, and such a deficiency can be corrected.

    The main cause of breakage and misalignment of doors are broken or incorrectly installed hinges.

    First of all, hinges can be the reason for opening. Poor installation of the hinges causes distortions, the door begins to open with difficulty.

    One of the reasons may be the looseness of one half of the loop. If the box is level, the hinges were marked, and the canvas still deviates from the vertical, which means that defective hinges were installed. They need to be replaced.

    Another reason may be poorly made hinge grooves. For example, one edge is recessed more than the other. This shortcoming is easy to fix. It is necessary to remove all excess in the groove, put material of the required thickness under the cavities.

    Another reason could be screws that were twisted crookedly into a loop. They pull the loop in the opposite direction. To correct the situation, it is necessary to re-drill the holes.

    What may be required to carry out the work

    The hinges are fastened with self-tapping screws in each hole.

    • a hammer;
    • shaped screwdriver;
    • axe;
    • electric drill;
    • chisel;
    • rasp;
    • screws;
    • level.

    The door frame and its influence on the opening and closing of the interior door

    If the door leaf opens involuntarily, the post holding the door leaf is not perfectly vertical. What is the reason, how to fix this problem? Loss of verticality due to improperly installed door hinges is the main reason for self-opening. The hinges are installed with a slight inclination.

    If the opening is outward, then the slope of the door is not directed towards the door frame. To correct the situation, you need to put material of the appropriate thickness under the upper door hinge.

    If arbitrary closing occurs, the slope is directed towards the door frame. To eliminate the cause, you need to put material under the door hinge installed from below.

    Once the post is aligned exactly vertically, the door will work perfectly. If, nevertheless, by simply laying it was not possible to correct the situation, it is necessary to reinstall the door frame.

    To do this, remove all the screws that secure the box. There is only one left to hold the rack. The door panel is removed. A well-sharpened knife removes all mounting foam. It is not necessary to completely remove the foam, it will be a kind of substitute for wedges and will not allow the rack to touch the wall at an angle.

    Then, with the help of the level, the new location of the rack is marked. New holes are drilled through the rack. To work, you need a long drill. Dowels are driven into the holes.

    After that, hang the box and screw two screws into the lower and upper loops with an electric drill. This is necessary to verify the correct installation. If, when the door is opened 45°, it does not sag and remains in place, the frame can be fully secured. If defects occur, the vertical must be checked again. This work is completed by removing the old foam, knocking up the rack and re-foaming.

    You must always remember that other racks will have to be aligned in the same way. The amount of work associated with the repair of the box depends on the degree of damage.

    It may be possible to get by with a simple cosmetic repair. It will be quite enough to putty the dents and paint the door. But a more serious repair may be required when it is necessary to replace damaged parts of the door frame and door leaf.

    When repairing metal doors, work is performed:

    • plumbing;
    • welding;
    • finishing;
    • the door is reinforced.

    The squeak of the door is eliminated by lubricating the hinges.

    Sometimes the door starts to creak. This is due to friction in the canopies. You can fix this with ordinary machine oil by lubricating the hinges. You can use the oil that lubricates sewing machines. To get to the hinge axis, you need to put a wedge and pry it, for example, with a crowbar. It rises slightly, oil drips into the gap formed near the loop pins. The door can be gently lowered into place. The main thing is that she always remains put on loops. The creak will disappear.

    Instead of oil, you can use pieces of graphite by breaking any soft pencil.

    Pieces of graphite will be crushed by the mass of the door and become a fine powder. Graphite is an excellent lubricant and will last a very long time.

    If the metal door begins to open on its own, you will have to fix the incorrectly fixed hinges. The fastening of the hinges must be done strictly vertically, no tilt is allowed.

    How is loop repair done?

    Poorly made grooves are aligned with a chisel.

    If the opening occurs spontaneously, then there is an inclination relative to the door frame. To correct the position, you need to put a little cardboard on top of the loop half to set the loops in a level position. If arbitrary closing occurs, then the cardboard must be placed under the loop from below.

    When working, it is not necessary to completely unscrew the screws. They can only be unscrewed half way. You can put a piece of cardboard in the resulting gap. After work, the screws will easily be screwed back.

    If the door often wedges, in most cases this is due to the hinges, which are very loose. To fix it, you need to remove the screw, and instead screw in another, longer one. Thus, by changing all the screws holding the hinges, you can correct the situation.

    If such an operation did not help, it is necessary to transfer the loops to a new place by moving them to the side. You can try to make the nests of the loops deeper to drown them a little.

    In some cases, door jamming occurs due to the settlement of the building. The door frame was warped and tilted slightly. The only way out of the situation is to create an angle of inclination corresponding to the angle of the frame.

    Under the loop you need to put a gasket according to the technology described above. When the lower half of the door is jammed, the gasket is placed under the hinge located at the top, and when the upper half is jammed, everything is done the other way around.

    The cause of jamming is the resulting large gap when installing the hinge and the door frame. To fix the problem, it is necessary to make the nests of the loops much deeper and drown them slightly. If a skew has formed, it is necessary to drown only the loop that is the cause of the jamming.

    If the work done did not help eliminate the jamming, you need to remove the layer of wood opposite the jamming site. The same is done with the door, which is swollen with dampness. Often it is enough to process the butt with a rasp right on the hinges. To remove a thick layer, the door must be removed from the hinges.

    If the door touches the floor when opened

    Perhaps this is due to the shrinkage of the door leaf. Correction of the position is similar to the operation of lubricating the door.

    First, the steel door is propped up with a small wedge. In the open position, the canvas will begin to rise in the loops. Semi-rings of strong wire are inserted into the gap formed. When the half rings are inserted, they must be pressed with pliers until a ring is obtained. This must be done in such a way that the ring remains in place when the canvas closes or opens.

    When the door began to close poorly, it is necessary to put carbon paper under it, and then close it. After opening, you can see the main cause of the problem that has arisen. If the tongue of the lock is located below the hole, it is necessary to check the strength of the fastening of the loop screws. Perhaps the subsidence was due to the fact that they were weakened.

    If the actions taken did not lead to success, you need to remove the striker plate, and widen the holes with an ordinary file. After that, you can fix the bar in another place.

    Displacement of the hinges, if the door is firmly in place, is not allowed. Sometimes you need to limit the opening of the door. For this, a strap is taken, which must be fixed at the top of the door directly to the jamb. The length of the strap is equal to the required opening length. When the door is closed, the strap will just hang down. To make the door close itself, you can install a door closer.
