Pigs are leaders among domestic animals in terms of productivity and unpretentiousness. From one individual, you can get more than a hundred kilograms of good meat, and proper fattening guarantees a sebaceous layer with high palatability. Also, sows are considered very prolific among artiodactyls. To get the maximum amount of the final product, the animal must be properly fattened. If the farm is large, then automatic feed supply should be provided. Feeders for pigs can be built with your own hands. However, for a good result, you should use high-quality materials and drawings.

Feeding container requirements

Before you make a pig feeder with your own hands, you should master the carpentry skill and calculate the drawing of the future design. There are several basic requirements for any feeders:

  • availability of food for animals;
  • tightness;
  • absence of toxic components;
  • compliance with the materials and consistency of the feed.

The closed structure must have a ventilation system. If air circulation is disturbed inside the container, this can cause spoilage of grain feed. High humidity in the absence of ventilation leads to the appearance of mold and mildew.

Artiodactyls have well-developed muscle mass and rarely eat food neatly. The container must stand firmly on the ground. In addition, a do-it-yourself feeder for piglets must be equipped with special thresholds so that food does not spill out onto the ground. When the young growth eats a forage from a stall, he begins to pick up the scattered rests. Also, drinkers are often installed near the feeders, so dirt can get into the water.

Types of feeders depending on the products

Do-it-yourself pig feeder scheme should take into account the characteristics of the feed. If food takes up a lot of space, then the container should have a large volume. Also, the materials and shape of the container depend on the consistency of the food:

  1. For dry cereal crops, medium-sized feeders are suitable. The tightness of the hopper is not a priority, but the grain should not wake up. The best material for such containers is wood. This raw material is environmentally friendly and has the ability to draw out excess moisture, which will not allow cereals to become damp.
  2. For hay and grass, it is better to use iron grates and nets. Green food takes up a lot of space and is too light to automatically fill the tray under the pressure of its own weight.
  3. Wet mixers and liquid substances are best poured into a trough. Due to the viscosity, food can get stuck in the hopper system. The best material for these containers is plastic or metal, as this will keep the feeder from leaking.

Separation of feed supply for animals of different ages

In a large farm, young and adults should be fed separately. Feeding pigs of all ages together can have the following consequences:

  • adults can trample piglets;
  • bacteria and harmful insects from older pigs can cause diseases in young animals;
  • piglets will not receive the right amount of feed and will lag behind in growth.

In order for the young to eat well, a separate structure is made for it. Separation between animals occurs by adjusting the sills and sides: in this way, adults will not be able to get to the feed of piglets, and young animals will not eat from a common high trough.

The best option would be a do-it-yourself feeder for pigs, the sides of which are at chest level of small piglets. This will allow animals to eat without tilting their heads, which will have a good effect on the development of bone and muscle tissue.

The feed tray should be made at an angle so that the food is collected in one place. To achieve this effect, you need to make the rear pillars a few centimeters higher than the front ones. This design not only simplifies eating, but also facilitates the process of cleaning the container.

To make the feeder last longer, you can make a nut height adjuster using hinges. To do this, grooves are made in the side walls of the feeder, and the front plywood sheet should fall to the floor in front of the racks. Self-tapping screws can be used to fix the adjustable board at the desired height.

To prevent young animals from climbing into the trough of older pigs, you need to install a floor from the boards. For adults, this will not become an obstacle, and piglets will not be able to scatter food. To properly cover the pig feeder with boards, you should watch a video or photo from master classes.

Norms of the length of feeders for piglets of different ages

There are norms for calculating the length of the structure and they depend on the age and number of artiodactyls:

  1. For one piglet at the age of two months, you need 15 cm of free space.
  2. Five-month-old young animals require 30 cm of length per individual.
  3. An adult female requires 40 cm of free space, and a male - 60 cm.

The depth of an ordinary trough should be at least 30 cm for any age of the pigs.

Varieties of feeders depending on the method of filling

There are several types of construction depending on the content:

  1. Manual filling. This type includes open trays and troughs. These feeders are suitable for wet mash and liquid. Feeding is done manually by a human. Similar designs are easy to make at home.
  2. Automatic filling. This method of feeding is used on large farms because it saves the owner's physical costs. Automatic feeders for pigs include in their design the presence of a hopper into which products are poured. Under its own weight, the food independently regulates the filling of the tray.

The silo pig feeder is used by farmers to provide their herd with crops or vegetables. The body of the product can be metal or made of wood. People who are well versed in carpentry can build bunker feeders for pigs at home, since the container should be made airtight.

Automatic feeders for farm pigs can be bought at the factory or in the store. The company guarantees the quality of the product, but the design itself may not meet the individual requirements of animals.

How to make feeders at home

The advantage of such structures is an individual drawing, which is calculated for a specific barn. Thanks to this, you can adjust the length and height of the container. There are several types of simple homemade hand-fed feeders.

The advantage of such designs over store-bought ones is their relative cheapness. For the construction using improvised materials and simple tools.

Plastic bottle feeders

Such feeders are often used to feed young animals during the period of active growth. Plastic compares favorably with wood or metal because it does not leak or corrode. The downside is the short lifespan.

To make such a container, use bottles of 10 liters. The manufacturing process looks like this:

  • the bottle is cut in half;
  • the throat part is cut off;
  • halves are fixed with construction adhesive.

This container is suitable for dry products and wet mash. The absence of material costs allows for each generation of piglets to make a new feeder. In a similar way, you can make a drinking bowl for an animal by cutting the bottle across, and not along.

Feeders from technical pipes

PVC pipes are often used on farms with a large number of pigs. The elongated shape of the raw material allows you to make a container with which you can feed a large number of animals.

The pipe must have a diameter of at least 60 cm, otherwise the container will turn out to be too small. The manufacturing process has the following features:

  • the pipe is cut in half;
  • plugs are installed along the edges of the structure;
  • the feeder is attached to the wall.

This design requires fastening to a vertical surface, otherwise the pigs can turn it over. In such a feeder, liquids and wet mixers can be given, since the material does not allow water to pass through. To avoid leakage, the plugs should be reinforced with construction adhesive. In this way, you can make feeders and drinkers for farm pigs.

Cylinder feeders

A good feeder for pigs can be made from a gas cylinder. Such designs are distinguished by longevity, thanks to the source materials. In addition, metal feeders are easier to clean and disinfect, and are less likely to absorb chemicals and toxins.

It should be noted that a gas cylinder feeder requires skill in cutting metal. Before work, the cylinder should be left open overnight on the street. If the container is not ventilated, gas residues may ignite while working on metal. The next morning, the valve should be lubricated with soapy water. The absence of bubbles indicates that the gas has escaped. The cylinder is fixed on the ground, after which you can start cutting the container with a grinder.

Before starting work, you need to mark up so that the cut is even. You can get several feeders from one cylinder, so do not neglect the calculations.

The structure is cut along the vertical axis. Each half should be burned to get rid of the heavy smell, after which it can be installed in the barn. Such a feeder weighs a lot, so you need to decide in advance where to place it.

Before making a balloon feeder for pigs, beginners are advised to watch training videos and photos.

However, breeders often use automatic feeding for piglets. The manufacturing process is simple:

  • for the feeder you will need 2 buckets per 10 liters;
  • the bottom is cut off in the containers;
  • buckets are fixed with slices to each other with the help of building glue;
  • in the lower bucket, holes are cut in the side walls in a circle.

Such a product should be fixed near a vertical surface. The holes should be 30 cm wide. So that the young do not scatter food, a small threshold should be left. Wet food and vegetables fall asleep in such feeders. Before you make such a piglet feeder, you should consider the age of the animals. This method of serving food is suitable for individuals that are under 5 months old.

Properly selected feeders for pigs are not only a guarantee of satiety of animals. The design and size of this equipment determines how clean and high-quality the feed will be, as well as its economical use. No less important are the drinkers installed on the farm.

What are the requirements for feeders and drinkers for pigs? What constructive solutions are the most effective and affordable in a personal farmstead?

Varieties and arrangement of feeders for pigs

The simplest feeders used in fattening any type of livestock and poultry are open containers of suitable size and depth. An example would be a plastic or metal trough for pigs.

The advantage of such feeders is their cheapness and simplicity, but the feed mixtures in them are easily contaminated, and it is impossible to dose them.

A different principle of action for pigs. The structures intended for the distribution of dry food consist of:

  • from the bunker where the feed mixture is initially poured;
  • from the tray, into which food then falls;
  • from restrictive strips that do not allow excess feed from the bunker to immediately fall onto the pallet;
  • from the pallet, from where the feed is eaten by pigs;
  • from side barriers that prevent the mixture from spilling out onto the limits of the feeder.

From the top-filled hopper, the feed for the pigs enters the tray through the gap below, where the animals eat it with pleasure. As soon as the pig trough is empty and the slot in the hopper opens, a new portion of food is poured down and the feeder is filled again. As a result:

  • food stays clean and fresh longer;
  • even the weakest and late pets do not starve;
  • food does not scatter on the floor, which allows you to save money and not be afraid of infecting animals with helminths or other infections;
  • the breeder spends less time on livestock maintenance and feeding.

Nipple drinkers for pigs

Similarly, nipple drinkers for pigs, although more expensive than ordinary troughs, are more reliable, more convenient and safer.

Unlike open drinkers, where water is always available to pigs, nipple designs work only when the animal presses on the nipple and this opens the supply of moisture. As a result, the liquid does not get dirty for a long time, does not get on the litter and is spent much more economically.

Such drinkers can be bought or made with your own hands. In the latter case, it must be remembered that the water pressure must be less than 2 atmospheres for piglets and 4 if the equipment is installed in a pigsty for adult animals.

Whatever design of the pig feeder or drinker the livestock breeder chooses, its dimensions should be such that it is convenient for all the inhabitants of the pigsty to approach the trough.

Requirements for feeders and drinkers for pigs

The sizes of containers for feeding and watering animals depend on the age and sex of the pigs, as well as on their number. The smaller, the smaller and narrower troughs are offered to them, the more animals can simultaneously fit next to a bunker feeder for pigs or a regular trough.

The same criteria are used when arranging long open drinkers, as well as when calculating the number of places if nipple drinkers for pigs are to be installed in the pigsty.

The height at which it is better to mount drinkers also depends on the parameters of the herd. It is convenient to determine it based on the weight of the animals. Long troughs are often divided by bridges to force the animals to eat from a strictly designated area of the pallet. In addition to size and depth requirements, feeders and drinkers for pigs must:

  • easy to clean and wash;
  • have a structure that is protected from the ingress of urine, droppings, bedding fragments or other debris;
  • be capacious and stable enough so that the food does not spill out and the water does not splash;
  • located in an accessible area.

Feeders for pigs intended for liquid feed and drinkers must not leak.

Do-it-yourself pig feeder

Buying ready-made drinkers and feeders is not a problem. But in order to save money, you can make convenient and inexpensive equipment for a pigsty with your own hands.

For the manufacture of a simple design, plastic or metal barrels, large-diameter asbestos-cement and plastic pipes, and even obsolete gas cylinders are suitable.

Depending on the diameter of the existing barrel, the vessel along the long side is cut into two or three parts. The resulting gutters are thoroughly washed, dried and mounted on heavy stable supports or bars. Sharp cuts must be treated with sandpaper or bent so as not to get hurt.

Similarly, pig feeders are made from old cylinders:

  1. Previously, the remaining gas is bled from the equipment, checking the emptiness of the container with soap suds.
  2. Then, the valve is very carefully cut off from the lying balloon, regularly moistening the incision site.
  3. When the valve is removed, the container is thoroughly washed, and the used water is poured away from residential buildings.
  4. A longitudinal cut of the cylinder will turn it into two troughs for pigs.
  5. The containers are burned.
  6. From above, a metal grate can be attached to the feeders, lowering which is easy to prevent the piglets from getting inside the trough.

A similar technology is also used when a pipe made of asbestos cement or plastic is chosen for the manufacture of a feeder or drinker. Do-it-yourself feeders for pigs made from these materials are not subject to corrosion, they are quite easy to maintain and can be transported, for example, to be installed on a paddock.

Bunker feeders TURBOFEEDER for fattening pigs - video

Most farmers are not afraid of hard physical labor, preferring to do everything with their own hands. Everyone knows that it is not enough to build a pigsty, it must also be properly equipped for animals in order to provide them with everything they need. Feeders for pigs are important elements of the internal arrangement of a pig farm.

Feeders for pigs must meet certain requirements. Since such a device will be used daily, the health of pets will depend on it. If the farmer does not monitor the cleanliness of the container, then with each new feeding, the likelihood of disease in pigs increases. Even for a short time, bacteria can develop in the remnants of food that was given to piglets, worms and their eggs, and other pathogens can get there. In this regard, it is necessary to always monitor the cleanliness of the feeder from which the pigs eat, especially if they are young animals. They should be cleaned regularly and treated with hot water and detergents.

Since the feeder needs constant access not only to animals, but also to the farmer, their design should be comfortable and not heavy.

The next mandatory point when installing the feeder is to take into account that it is often clogged with food. If the vessel has deep corners, then it will be very difficult to clean out the remains. Bacteria and fungi will develop in these areas if not cleaned completely.

It should also be borne in mind that animals do not eat food neatly. In this case, the design of the feeder must be stable so that it does not turn over. Be sure to put a feeder that will have sides so that the food does not spill out. When the piglets eat everything from it, they will start eating from the ground what was spilled.

For each type of feed, depending on the volume, you should select the appropriate type of feeder.

If you decide to make a feeder with your own hands, then a very important factor in choosing a design for feeding pigs is the height and sides of the vessel. Since different breeds of piglets are bred on farms, they have different physical parameters, respectively. Some species may be taller and larger, others will be shorter, but eat less. Feeders for pigs should be such that it is convenient for animals to eat from them. If the pigs have thick necks, they are high, then the feeder itself needs to be raised an order of magnitude higher than for younger piglets.

For small piglets, you can make a separate feeder, which will be more convenient for them. It is desirable that it be at the level of the chest of the animals. In this case, they do not have to bend over, and they will stand straight. For young animals, this is useful, as it affects the development of the musculoskeletal system.

The best option for installing sides are beveled or rounded edges. Then, at the same time, it will be convenient for the animals to get to the products that are poured into the container. Also, if you will make the feeders with your own hands, then it is advisable to take into account the possibility of the structure to be located at a slight slope. When the container is at an angle, then all the feed will be collected in one of the deepest places. This is convenient for animals, and if they have not finished eating part of the food, then it is much easier to collect them again in a separate bowl and reuse them.

When pig feeders are made by hand, then special drawings with design dimensions are usually used. Always remember that sizes will change depending on the age of the animal itself, as piglets grow quite quickly.

It is best if the owners have the opportunity to equip the pigsty with two types of feeders at once. You can install a separate container for young animals, and separate dishes for older individuals. However, they will not interfere with each other. If you feed them from the same feeder, then adult animals will repel babies, they can step on or crush them, causing damage. As a result, separation of animals during feeding is considered appropriate.

In a pigsty, where there are many individuals of the same age, you can install long deep troughs with your own hands. This way the animals can eat together without pushing each other out. And so that the piglets could not climb inside the trough (this happens), then it can be conditionally divided into sectors of the same size by placing floors from the boards. If necessary, they can be easily removed to free up space.

Depending on the number of pigs that will be fed from the tank, you need to calculate the length of the structure. So for piglets at 2 months you need places of 10-20 centimeters, for individuals up to 5 months about 30. For a sow, an average width of 40 centimeters is needed, and for a large boar 10-15 centimeters more, since they are wider at the withers. The depth is usually up to 30 cm.

What are the varieties

Based on the above parameters, the farmer can make a feeder with his own hands, as this is not a difficult task. The structures themselves are of two types.

The first type, a simple vessel, without additional devices, is an ordinary basin, a trough.

The second type is automatic, they can also be called bunker. Feed bins for pigs can automatically calculate the amount of feed consumed by animals, dispensing it in portions. It is problematic to make them with your own hands, since the drawings are much more complicated than usual ones. They are comfortable, and are in great demand on farms. They can be purchased in specialized stores.

Video “Bunker feeders for pig farms”

From the manufacturer's story, you will learn how the bunker feeder functions and what its advantage is.

How to do it yourself

Regarding the installation method of the structure that you do with your own hands, you can decide on your own. This is just for convenience. You can make a fixed shape or mobile, tilted or evenly standing - there is no fundamental difference.

For work, it will be necessary to prepare the material itself, and which will be used to make a container and a special tool.

Consider several ways to make a do-it-yourself pig feeder from improvised material.

From plastic bottles

The advantage of plastic bottles from a conventional wooden feeder is that this material does not swell, it does not rot, and it is also very light. Unlike metal, it does not corrode. Using plastic bottles, you can make a separate vessel for feeding one animal.

You will need to use large bottles - 10 liters. The bottle is cut into two parts. The part with the neck is completely removed. Both parts are connected by opposite sides, and fixed with glue. It turns out a small plastic trough. It is convenient to set it at the right height for little piglets while they are growing. An easy way without extra costs.

PVC pipes

PVC pipes are often used because they already have an elongated shape. This facilitates the process of preparing a feeder for a large number of individuals.

It is important to use pipes with a large diameter so that the container is large enough for the feed.

The PVC pipe must be cut lengthwise, and then the plugs must be fixed at the ends of the structure. This will prevent liquid products from escaping. You can use PVC barrels of large displacement.

From old bottles

A feeding container can be made from old gas cylinders. If you no longer need the balloon, then it can be used for other purposes. The feeder will be durable, having served the animals for 20-25 years.

It should be borne in mind that metal processing will take longer, and you will also need an electric cutting tool. Before cutting, you need to leave the cylinder on the street for a day, after opening the valve so that the rest of the gas comes out. If it remains in a liquid state, it may ignite during cutting. Be sure to follow safety precautions here.

Lubricate the valve with soapy water before cutting. If bubbles do not appear, then you can get to work.

It is necessary to fix the cylinder on the ground, and cut it along the structure. You can apply markings so as not to get lost during work.

Based on the needs, you can mark the balloon accordingly, and cut it into a suitable shape. For example, you can make a large part of the balloon for adult animals, and a smaller one for young animals. For sawing, you need to take a grinder with a disc for cutting metal.

After cutting, fire the metal so that there is no smell, and then install it in the right place. This design is quite heavy, so it is better to immediately think through the whole process of work.

In agriculture, every detail is important, even such as pig feeders. Therefore, the breeder tries to organize everything so that it is convenient, comfortable, but inexpensive. Running your own business requires many different tools. Many of them are expensive, so people have learned to look for a way out of this situation with the help of improvised items. It's amazing how many interesting and useful things can be created from old things that are simply sent to a landfill.

In agriculture, every detail is important, even such as pig feeders.

If a person is engaged in breeding and raising pigs, then he often has to lay out considerable sums. Feeding alone in our time makes this business far from the most profitable. Nevertheless, some try to raise pigs for themselves in order to get really high-quality meat. You can save a farmer if he turns on his imagination and uses improvised materials to equip a pigsty. For example, a do-it-yourself feeder for pigs will reduce costs somewhat. What’s more, there are plenty of options. From some old and unnecessary things, you can make excellent containers for feeding pigs. Sometimes they turn out even better than store-bought ones. And most importantly - it will not take a single extra penny, and it will not take much time.

Experts recommend paying special attention to the animal feeder.

Experts recommend paying special attention to the animal feeder. The fact is that such a simple detail can significantly affect productivity. If it is inconvenient for a pig or a boar to eat, then the weight growth will be low. But if you make a feeder according to all the rules, then there should be no problems.

Design requirements

If a farmer is engaged in pig breeding, then he must learn all the nuances of this work in order to get the maximum profit, but at the same time be able to reduce costs. Some believe that the main thing is to give the pig food so that it grows and gains weight.

However, expectations are often not met. And a very simple nuance can play a role in this, namely the wrong design scheme for feeding. Moreover, if the feeders for piglets are chosen unsuccessfully, then the farmer will have to spend a lot of time cleaning the tank. This sometimes takes a very long time, but you have to clean the feeder anyway, as it must comply with hygiene standards.

Among the sanitary requirements that are mandatory for feeders for pigs and wild boars, one can note first of all the cleanliness of these containers. They need to be washed and disinfected frequently to prevent the development of pathogenic microorganisms and rotting. Therefore, the feeder should be comfortable so that hygiene procedures can be carried out easily and simply.

In addition, it is important that the waste products of pigs do not get into the container. These animals are not particularly picky about food, but they cannot eat everything in a row. Therefore, the feeder should be such that feces cannot get into it.

Special containers should be provided for each type of feed. Wet food should be kept separate from dry food. In this case, you need to ensure that the container with liquid products does not leak. Otherwise, you will have to clean the entire pigsty. Moreover, it creates increased humidity, which is very dangerous for animals, as it can be a favorable environment for the development of many microorganisms.

Pigs should have a free approach to each feeder. It is not necessary that you can eat from different sides of the container. It is enough to make it possible to approach the feeder from one side. Experts recommend using the scheme when the container is made at a slight slope. This is more convenient for animals, since all the food accumulates in one place and it is easier to get it.

An important requirement for feeders for boars and pigs is the size. They directly depend on the dimensions of the animals themselves. For each age it is better to use a certain size. But it is also necessary to take into account the number of individuals that will eat from one feeder.

If only small piglets live in the pigsty so far, then the containers should be small. Otherwise, the animals simply will not be able to reach food and die of hunger. As they grow older, the feeder can also increase. For large boars and sows, it is better to use several large containers so that everyone has enough food.

Norms will change depending on the age group. For adults, a feeder 50 cm wide for dry food and 40 cm for wet food is recommended. For a reared piglet, dry food can be poured into a container of 30 cm, and for liquid food, 25 cm is enough. For the smallest individuals, low feeders are needed. It is desirable that they be no more than 15 cm wide and 10 in height. Otherwise, it will be difficult for babies to reach for food.

If the farmer is engaged in pig breeding, then he must study all the nuances of this work.

Types of feed devices

There is a huge variety of containers that can be convenient for a particular occasion. Depending on the situation, the farmer may choose one or more options. Sometimes different types of feeders are used for different types of feed.

For example, containers can be stationary or mobile. In the first case, the feeder will resemble a whole installation that cannot be moved by the animal. This is handy as it ensures that the pigs don't tip over the container and everything doesn't have to be removed from the floor. But this option has one significant drawback: it is quite difficult to wash a stationary feeder.

Mobiles are distinguished by their mobility. If desired, they can be moved from the pigsty itself to fresh air in order to clean and ventilate everything. Often, mobile containers are separated by partitions, which allows you to immediately use both liquid and dry food.

In addition, the feeders differ in volume. They can be individual, that is, designed to feed one or two individuals. But still, group feeders are more common. They are large and divided into sections.

The most convenient type of device are pig feeders. They are also called automatic, since in this case there is no need to constantly add food. The advantage of bunker feeders is that, as the animals eat out what is already in the tank, a new portion will be added from a special compartment. This is very convenient, as it allows you to provide animals with food or water for a long time and not run to the pigsty every time. Everything will happen automatically.

The automatic pig feeder is very popular. It can be found for any animals and birds. It costs not much more than usual. But if you make a bunker feeder with your own hands, then it will cost a penny. Automatic feeders for pigs make it possible to load feed for several days in advance. But they are only suitable for dry food or water. It is better not to load liquid food for several days so that it does not deteriorate.

Any automatic silo feeder for pigs can be easily made by hand. This does not require special knowledge and expensive components. Most often, farmers make do with what was found in the barn or was even planned for disposal. This allows you to significantly reduce the cost of a pig farm.

DIY manufacturing

The variety of containers and equipment for feeding pigs is simply amazing. If you look into a specialized store, you can find any option for every taste, color and wallet. And yet, if the farm is small or a person has just started breeding and raising pigs, it will be much better for him to make a piglet feeder with his own hands. Moreover, it is simple and cheap. In any business, a very important role is played not only by increasing profits, but also by reducing costs.

Before starting work, it is necessary to make drawings and prepare all equipment and components. There are many options for making pig feeders. Depending on this, additional elements will be selected.

If the farmer has an old plastic barrel that has not been used for a long time and is just lying around idle, then this is a great option for making a pig feeder. It is convenient to work with plastic, and after that it will be possible not to worry that the feeder will begin to rust, etc. The main thing is to make sure that this container has not previously been used to store poisons and chemical liquids, such as gasoline. It will not be possible to completely wash out harmful substances from plastic, so over time they will begin to penetrate food, especially liquid food.

If nothing like this happened to the barrel, it can be safely used to make a feeder. To work, you need a jigsaw, which you need to divide the container into two parts along. You will get two identical troughs, the edges of which must be carefully cleaned with sandpaper so that the animals do not cut themselves on them while eating. Further, the feeders can be fixed near the wall so that they become stationary, or you can attach legs or even wheels to it. Get a mobile container for feeding pigs and wild boars.

You can also make a bunker feeder from a plastic barrel. After the auto-feeder is ready at the bottom, it must be placed so that one side is slightly higher than the other. Next, you will need another barrel or a large bottle of 20 liters. The bottom is cut off from this container, and then the bottle must be fixed near the high edge of the feeder so that it does not reach 5-10 centimeters to the bottom, depending on the height of the feeding container itself. As a result, when the dry food is eaten by the pigs, a new batch of food will begin to appear from the bottle, which will be installed in the form of a funnel.

Gas bottle container

In order to make a trough for pigs with your own hands, you can use not only plastic containers. For example, if a farmer has old gas cylinders that can no longer be used for their intended purpose, or there is simply no need for this, you can make containers for feeding pets, including pigs, from them. It is worth noting that experts consider the use of old gas cylinders to be a very good option, since they can last up to 20 years.

During the performance of such work, you need to be as careful as possible. It must be remembered that even the oldest cylinders may contain gas. If there is a lot of it, then an explosion will happen. Therefore, precautions must be taken here.

All work is done outside. First you need to open the cylinder valve and release all the gas to the very end. After the hissing sound disappears, you can proceed to further work. The master needs to saw off the upper part of the cylinder, which, as a rule, is made of brass. It is a soft metal, so the work is not difficult. But help will be needed, since one person must necessarily water the place with a saw cut with water. This is necessary so that a spark does not appear and an explosion does not occur. When the valve is cut off, it is necessary to pour water into the resulting hole and rinse everything thoroughly. Many propane tanks retain the smell of propane for a long time, so you will have to leave them to ventilate for a while.

The prepared container must be cut into two equal parts. This will allow you to get two full-fledged feeders. The wall thickness of the gas cylinder is about 3 mm, so it can be easily sawn with a grinder.

Ready troughs must be thoroughly ventilated. Burning on a fire helps well, but a gas burner can also be used. Then the containers will have to be left for a while so that all unpleasant odors are gone. Lastly, the master must weld several pieces of reinforcement to the feeder to make the legs. On this, work on the manufacture of containers for feeding pigs from a gas cylinder will be completed.

Some farmers use ceramic pipes to create feeders. But they are quite expensive, and not everyone wants to mess around with plugs, which in any case will have to be invented so that the food does not fall out of the container. Yet the easiest and most convenient way is a plastic feeder for pigs. Even a person who does not have special manual labor skills will cope with this work. There is no need for welding, or the ability to work with a grinder, or the use of concrete, as for ceramic feeders. Everything is simple, fast and hassle-free.

Do not know how to make do-it-yourself feeders for domestic pigs? And so you are forced to buy them. But in fact, there is nothing complicated in creating containers for food. If you master this technique, you can easily create almost any number of such inventory. In this article, with the help of photos and videos, as well as using drawings, we will analyze several basic types of feeders and how to make them.

Bunker feeders for pigs are used when keeping a sufficiently large number of animals. Making them may seem difficult, but with experience, the whole process will take you very little time. These automatic pig feeders are ideal for feeding compound feed and crushed grain. The following describes a technique for manufacturing the simplest version of this design.

Materials and tools

To make bunker tanks for pigs and piglets with your own hands, you will need two main tools:

  • Bulgarian;
  • electric welding machine.

You need to have good skills in working with these tools. If you do not have them, it is better to hire a professional or buy ready-made options.

From materials you will need steel or aluminum sheets. The optimal thickness is 2-3 mm.

Step-by-step instruction

  • At the first stage, a metal box is made. A bunker will be installed inside it. The box is made from sheets. In the drawing below you can see its optimal parameters.
  • Make a bunker from metal sheets by welding them.
  • The walls of the bunker should be inclined inward, then the food will go down under its own weight. This can also be seen in the drawing below.
  • When the box is made, and the hopper is placed in it, make double-sided trays at the bottom. Of these, several animals can feed at once. That's it, your feeder is ready.

Plastic barrel feeder

Surprisingly, even an old and, in principle, unnecessary plastic barrel can be converted into an excellent container for feeding pigs. But you can not use for this container in which some toxic substances were stored. Even if you make sure you clean the barrel thoroughly, it can still poison your animals. Therefore, when making such a feeder, you need to be careful. But such a feeder is not the best option, it is better to give preference to more durable materials.

Materials and tools

To make a pig feeder with your own hands, you will need the following tools or materials:

  • plastic barrel, large size;
  • wooden bars;
  • screws;
  • any marker or well-defined pencil;
  • jigsaw;
  • sandpaper.

Step-by-step instruction

Further instructions on how to make a pig feeder from a plastic barrel are quite simple. It will require from you only minimal skills in working with a jigsaw and other tools.

  • Using a marker, divide the barrel into 2-3 sectors. The number of parts depends on the size of the barrel. It makes sense to divide the big one into three parts at once.
  • Using a jigsaw, cut the barrel along the outlined lines.
  • Then remove all sharp corners and carefully clean the surface, especially the cut points, with sandpaper.
  • The legs are made of bars, which are horizontally attached to the container from below with screws. The feed container is ready, both the pig and the piglet can eat from it.

From a gas bottle

Everything is useful on the farm, and your own old gas cylinder made of durable metal will not be an exception. Instead of selling it for scrap, it is better to turn it into a container for food. Its main advantage will be amazing durability, up to 20 years and even more.

Materials and tools

You will need certain tools and materials for manufacturing:

  • gas cylinder, naturally empty;
  • soap solution and a brush for its application, with their help the surface of the cylinder is checked for gas residues;
  • a large amount of water;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • Bulgarian;
  • reinforcement bars;
  • metal corners;
  • gas welding machine;
  • gas-burner.

Step-by-step instruction

When working with gas cylinders, you must be completely careful and carefully follow the following instructions.

  • First, fully open the valve and wait until the gas comes out. To make sure no more is left, brush the solution around the outlet. If it does not bubble, then you can safely start work.
  • Next, saw off the brass valve. The help of a second person will come in handy, who will have to water the saw cut during work to avoid sparks.
  • Fill the bottle with water through the hole, shaking it occasionally. So you collect all the condensate from all the walls. Pour out the water somewhere away from the house and your field, garden.
  • Determine what size container you need. From the balloon you can get as many as two. If adult pigs are fed from one, and feeders for piglets are also required, then it makes sense to make the first one larger and the second smaller. If you need the same feeders, just mark the tank in half.
  • Saw with a grinder.
  • Weld reinforcement on top of the container, so the pigs will not climb inside for food.
  • Burn the inside of the can with a gas burner to completely eliminate the smell of gas from the feeder.
  • Weld the legs. Make them from ordinary fittings.
