What shape is the cabinet? How to choose an office cabinet (photo examples). Benefits of Freestanding Cabinets

When buying or making a wardrobe, you need to think in advance about how and with what you are going to fill it. After all, he gained his popularity thanks to a large selection of different combinations and ready-made modules that allow you to adapt to the requirements of the owners. Properly selected filling for sliding wardrobes is a guarantee of functionality.

First of all, decide for what purposes you will use the cabinet, what you will store in it. The filling of the wardrobe for the hallway and for the bedroom will vary greatly; let's look at everything in order.

It is conditionally possible to divide the classic wardrobes into three parts:

  1. lower - for storing shoes;
  2. middle - the main part, where hangers, shelves are located;
  3. upper (mezzanine) - for storing things that are rarely used.

The wardrobe in the bedroom should have a lot of space for storing everyday, work clothes and bed linen. The depth, as a rule, is about 60 cm, which means that about 50 cm is available for storage. Thus, inside you can place both standard hanger rods and retractable ones with a release mechanism.

Popular options for filling wardrobes include the following details.

  • Pantograph - a rod with a handle and a mechanism for descending to use the space above.
  • Mesh baskets and shelves for linen made of metal or plastic - you can store anything in them, from shirts to socks.
  • Hung the usual or end - for hangers.
  • Clothes hangers with hooks - this is how you store things that do not wrinkle.
  • Retractable trouser holders.
  • Hangers for ties, belts and cufflinks.
  • Multi-level pull-out baskets - for storing small things.
  • Iron mount, which is fixed on the wall. In addition, you can make a built-in ironing board.
  • Shelves and niches for storing shoes.

Filling built-in wardrobes: used modules

Features of the closet in the hallway

The peculiarity of the furniture in the hallway is a small width. For compact hallways in Khrushchev, the optimal depth is 40 cm, unlike the standard 60 cm. Also note that 10 cm of depth is occupied by a sliding mechanism, so standard coat hangers will not fit in such a narrow cabinet. Here, the use of a perpendicularly located hanger is suitable; it can be both retractable and stationary. Of course, you can’t hang a lot of hangers on it, but there is enough space for a small family. In a compartment 1 m long, you can place two pairs of such hangers parallel to each other, in total getting the length of one full-fledged one.

To store shoes, wire shelves are used, which are fixed at an angle. Each such shelf will fit 2-3 pairs of shoes, so the main part will have to be stored in boxes on ordinary shelves.

In the hallway and corridor, small drawers are indispensable for storing small things: brushes, shoe polish, keys. Part of the space should be occupied by shelves for outerwear for other seasons that you are not currently wearing. To do this, make pull-out baskets or regular shelves from chipboard.

Also popular are models from several sections, which are complemented by hangers, corner shelves, hat holders, and seats. Take care of the required number of hooks for bags, packages and umbrellas.

A good solution is to use a mirror for the cabinet doors. It will make the hallway visually wider, and you can look at yourself in full growth. In addition, you can install the backlight on the visor or inside the cabinet.

    • The layout of the closet inside should match the number of sliding doors. If you are making two doors, then it is advisable to install two vertical sections. If the doors are wide, you can make an exception by adding a few compartments, but it is undesirable to put sliding doors longer than 1 meter.
    • The length of the clothes rail should be sufficient, so it should be made larger than the compartment with shelves. The recommended length of the rod is 90 cm, and the shelves are 60 cm.
    • The filling of the closet should be at a convenient height for normal access inside. If you are making shelves for clothes, the opening should be 35-40 cm, and for books - 20-35 cm.
    • To store short clothes on hangers, the opening should be 80-100 cm, and for long coats - 150-160 cm. To calculate the opening for the bar more accurately, add 20 centimeters to the longest clothes.
    • The upper space (mezzanine) is usually used for unnecessary large things, so make the top shelf 45-60 cm high.
    • If you have a lot of clothes on hangers, it will be more convenient to increase the depth of the cabinet to 70 cm. Thus, minus the thickness of the doors, you will have the optimal 60 cm. But do not make the depth too large, otherwise it will be inconvenient to get things from the far edge of the shelves.

With an increase in the depth of the cabinet, access to things will be more difficult. The closet will be larger, but the clothes on ordinary shelves will have to be folded in several rows, and at the first attempt to get the right thing, everything will fall apart.
Pull-out mesh drawers provide more access to the second row of clothes and are great for storing smaller items.

    • Underwear and socks are best stored in a drawer.
    • Retractable fillers for wardrobes fasten so that the door frame does not interfere with their movement. Handles on drawers must be recessed inwards.

Sliding wardrobes: internal filling

When choosing drawers, pay attention to the quality and type of guide rails. They should allow the box to be completely rolled out so that it does not fall. Cheap roller guides allow you to extend them only halfway. The most progressive drawers have a closer mechanism that gently and quietly slides it into place.

  • For long shelves and rods, provide partitions that will support them.
  • To install lighting inside the cabinet, use a retractable visor, which will automatically turn on when the door is opened.

Corner wardrobes

Corner cabinet inside

Separately, it is worth talking about the filling of corner wardrobes, an example of which you see in the photo. They have different shapes: triangle, trapezium, diagonal models.
If you decide to make the wardrobe corner, the filling will be more difficult, because you need to provide easy access to things in the corner. A good way to make good use of corner space is to install several hanger rods in the center. An example of their fastening is shown in the photo.

Most often, the place in the corner is occupied by clothes hangers, but there are options with the location of the shelves.

In the corners you can make open shelves for souvenirs.

Features of filling built-in wardrobes

If you decide for yourself, the interior filling may be more practical. You make the most of the free space from floor to ceiling, fill in empty niches. For example, many people prefer to organize a place for a TV or computer. To do this, they either create an additional open module, or put it inside, hiding it with doors.

Filling examples

With the help of a visual diagram, where the filling of the closet is visible, you can see examples of combining different components. Of course, all of them are conditional, select the best ideas for yourself and create something of your own.

Cabinets are functional furniture designed to store things and small parts. With the help of such structures, you can save, expand and fill the space profitably, hiding the imperfections and irregularities of the walls, ceiling or floor.

Types of cabinets

Depending on the use of space different types of cabinets:

  1. Stand alone. They have a one-piece body, are installed anywhere in the room, and can be transported. This is finished furniture, which consists of side walls, bottom, doors and top cover.
  2. Embedded. Such furnishings are an integral part of the interior. The side walls of the structure are elements of the room space (floor, walls, niches, ceiling).
  3. Partially embedded. These are products tied to a point in internal space. It differs from the standard headset in the absence of one or two parts.

Type of door elements stand out:

  • wardrobes with frame and sliding doors;
  • cabinets with swing doors on door hinges;
  • cabinets with lifting doors;
  • cabinets with door curtains;
  • open cabinets.

Sliding wardrobes have two door opening mechanisms:

  • a mechanical frame inside which the door moves on a roller basis;
  • the rollers move along the monorail, which prevents foreign objects from entering the structure.

Types by way of assembly:

Disadvantages of freestanding cabinets:

  • take up a lot of space;
  • it is difficult to combine such models with other headsets;
  • capacity is less than in built-in furniture.
  • quickly break when the fittings are not firmly fastened or improperly used;
  • complex installation;
  • installation requires a flat floor.

Disadvantages of wardrobes with hinged doors:

  • limited height of the structure;
  • a small number of decorative inserts;
  • the stability of the structure depends on the errors of the floors or walls.

How to choose a cabinet

  • Pay attention to the dimensions of the structure. Estimate the depth, height and width of the model. The standard depth is 60-65 centimeters. In the hallways, headsets with a depth of 40 centimeters are used.

Remember that 10 centimeters of the depth of the product is occupied by doors. When choosing a wardrobe, consider the number of things that should fit in it. Choose functional and dimensional furniture. The more compartments and compartments will be in the design, the better.

If the ceiling is higher than three meters, then the cabinets are equipped with mezzanines. By special order, it is possible to make aluminum doors up to the ceiling, steel structures reach a height of 2.75 m.

  • When buying, you should take into account the features of the floor on which the structure will stand. If it is made of linoleum or parquet, you will need a special substrate. “Liquid nails” or silicone sealant are placed on the tile.
  • The cabinet should fit into the overall design of the room, match the color of the wallpaper and furniture. Light shades have a calming effect, suitable for bedrooms and children's rooms.

Yellows and greens are uplifting. Blue color causes negative emotions. To visually reduce the size of furniture, choose dark colors.

  • Most often, the structures are installed in the bedrooms. Such furniture should have hangers, sections for folding clothes. Practical models with a two-tier construction of rods.

See if there are pull-out lockers for storing underwear and small items. Open side panels and mirrored facades with built-in background lighting look good.

  • When choosing a closet in the hallway, provide compartments for storing clothes and shoes, several sections for small items, or gloves. The headset must have a mirror.

For hallways, furniture equipped with halogen lamps for main or background lighting would be a profitable option.

  • The wardrobe installed in the living room must have compartments for storing things, linen,. Provide a central section for or other equipment, family photos and various small things that decorate the interior.
  • Open corner shelves look good. There are models with built-in desks and open shelves for storing books that fit well into a spacious living room.
  • Hide uneven walls and save space with built-in wardrobes. When choosing such models, remember: the structures cannot be moved to another place.
  • Wardrobes for children's rooms should be bright and unusual. It is better to choose such furniture with a child, he will tell you which cartoon characters should be on the facades.

Do not forget about the functionality of the headset. When designing, consider the age, height of the child, the possibility of reworking furniture.

  • Pay attention to what the side panels and wardrobe covers are made of. For the manufacture of the case, chipboard, fiberboard, MDF are most often used. Do not buy drywall products, they are fragile and will not be able to withstand such a load.
  • The doors of wardrobes must be strong and not slip off the wheels. Pay attention to models in which the wheels of the chassis are made of Teflon-coated plastic, ordinary plastic will not last more than six months.
  • To determine how functional the door is, you need to understand whether it can give free access to drawers and hangers, whether there will be hard-to-reach areas in the closet.

  • Choose steel profiles for doors, they are stronger than aluminum and will last longer. The width of one door should be no more than 1 meter, it is difficult to move massive doors, this leads to breakage of the fittings.
  • To visually expand the hallway space, cabinets with mirrored doors are suitable. Pay attention to the presence of a special film, it adds strength to the structure, protects against mechanical damage and extends the service life.

Doors with handles will be more convenient to use. Such designs are not recommended for installation in bedrooms.

  • Pay attention to decorating elements: photo printing, films with landscapes or still lifes. They must match the design of the room.

Which is better

Best Wardrobe:

  • fits the room in size, does not weigh down the room;
  • visually expands and saves space;
  • looks favorably against the background of the overall design, suits the room in style and color;
  • equipped with the necessary number of offices, which are distinguished by a favorable location;
  • has a strong mount and fittings;
  • roomy, functional;
  • has a stylish finish.

How to properly use and care

  • Maintain the necessary microclimate in the room. The temperature in the room should not exceed 45 degrees and be below 5 degrees. Humidity is 55-75 percent.

An increased level of moisture leads to deformation of structures, the formation of cracks in wooden products.

  • When abrasive products get on the surface of the cabinet, the panel coating is damaged. Wipe with a well wrung out microfiber cloth.
  • Protect the structure from direct sunlight. Do not place the heater and other appliances near the cabinet. This will lead to breakage of fittings, fasteners, parts will have to be replaced with new ones.

Do not place hot objects on the surface of the furniture without a heat-insulating pad.

  • Make sure that there is no dust on the guide profile and wheels. Process and wipe the parts. These elements ensure the smooth running of the doors. Special care is needed for the lower profile of the structure.

Retractable mechanisms clean from dust and lubricate if necessary.

  • To remove stains from furniture, make a mildly diluted soap solution and apply it to the surface with a soft sponge in a circular motion. Then remove it with a damp cloth and wipe dry.

Do not use rough brushes or materials that may damage the surface of the headset.

  • It is not recommended to wipe mirror facades with window cleaners. In this case, clouding of the glasses will occur. Use mirror cleaners or ammonia solution: 1 ml. per 1 liter warm water.

Metal parts are best cleaned by dry cleaning.

  • Keep an even load on the shelves of the cabinet. Do not overload the clothes rails and upper shelves, as this threatens to compromise the stability of the structure. Place heavy items closer to the support, light items should be in the center.

Improper operation will lead to loosening of fasteners and deformation of fittings.

  • When rearranging, unload the headset, remove loose elements, if necessary, dismantle the doors.
  • It is forbidden to store chemically active substances in the sections of the cabinet, which can lead to the destruction of the surfaces of the product.
  • Protect furniture from mechanical damage of various kinds: scratches, dents, cracks, carefully use sharp objects.
  • Open doors and lockers should be perpendicular to the plane of these elements, applying minimal effort.

The warranty period ranges from 1 to 25 years, depending on the manufacturer. Free maintenance is provided only after presenting the passport for the furniture and the warranty card. It is carried out in the presence of a factory defect, about which the buyer was not warned.

Factory marriage is not considered:

  • features of the materials of the product that are associated with a stylistic idea;
  • slight differences in texture or shades of materials;
  • wrinkles on the front side of the product, which disappear after smoothing by hand;
  • light or dark knots up to 15 mm, pockets up to 20 mm long on the front side of the structure.

The warranty is not provided in such cases:

  • non-compliance with the conditions and requirements for the operation of the goods;
  • mechanical damage and defects are visible on the product, which indicate the use of the product;
  • causing damage, making changes to the design, getting foreign objects inside the furniture;
  • use of products for production purposes;
  • when assembling the structure by non-specialists;
  • damage that occurred during the self-delivery of the goods.

If it is not possible to determine exactly what caused the damage, an examination is carried out. It lasts 1-1.5 months. The consumer reimburses the costs of the procedure, if the presence of a manufacturing defect is not proven.

What can go wrong and how to fix it

Common faults include:

  • Breakage of frame elements under the influence of heavy loads, cabinet fall or factory defects. You will need to replace the old parts with new ones.

First, unscrew the upper and lower door frames and remove them from the rails, then disassemble the structure using a special key for furniture bolts.

Determine the dimensions of the broken part, order the production of a new one. When installing the element, follow the factory scheme.

  • Breakage of internal filling: shelves, stands, hooks. Remove damaged parts, take measurements, order the production of new elements and install them.

If they differ from the design in color or material, paint the parts in the desired shade, the texture of the material will not change.

  • Contamination of the guide grooves. Remove blockages with a screwdriver or other sharp object, remove dust or dirt with a vacuum cleaner with a spot nozzle.
  • Incorrect installation of guides. Remove them, select the desired position.

For fixing, make new holes in the body, the old ones can be covered with wood putty.

  • If the guides are deformed, it is necessary to replace the parts with new ones. It is not recommended to align the elements, because even small bends greatly affect the operation of the structure.
  • Roller breakage. If the door does not close tightly, tap the bottom track stopper with a screwdriver several times. The door will return to its original position.
  • To adjust the lower or upper rollers, tighten the adjusting bolts. Use a hex wrench. Lubricate the rollers by applying a small amount of oil to the axles if the doors squeak.

If the rollers are out of order, remove the door from the rails, peel off the dust brush on the bottom of the door, unscrew the fixing screws of the roller, then install a new element, glue the brush and mount the doors in the cabinet.

  • Serious chips and dents can be dealt with by priming the inside surface. Apply the product in several layers, each next put after the previous one has dried.
  • To deal with cracks and scratches, use furniture wax. Warm up the product and rub the mechanical damage. For painting, transparent wax is preferable. Minor defects are removed with an emery cloth.
  • To paint the cabinet, sand the puttied places with sandpaper, apply several layers of primer so that the aerosol lays flat on the surface.

In order for dresses, suits, skirts, trousers and other wardrobe items to be kept in order, a capacious wardrobe must be present in the house. Today, storage systems are not just the same type of bulky wardrobe, modern models combine stylish design, practicality and functionality. A diverse assortment allows you to choose a module for clothes that is ideally combined with other interior items.

Wardrobe - features

Wardrobes can be a free-standing piece of furniture or a modular system that consists of several elements.

Based on the design features, there are such types of wardrobes for clothes:

  • case;
  • semi-embedded;
  • built-in.

Case modules are a complete structure consisting of a frame on supports and a facade. The main advantages of cabinet models include mobility - the cabinet can be freely moved to any place in the room, modeling the space at your discretion, and affordable price.

The disadvantage of cabinet wardrobes is the irrational use of space between the frame of the product and the structural elements of the room. In addition, ready-made standard models do not always fit into a room with atypical architecture; sloping ceilings and ledges can serve as an obstacle to installing the module.

Partially and fully built-in cabinets are free from the disadvantages of cabinet structures. Semi-embedded models are a storage system that lacks one or two elements in its design. The role of the bottom and top cover is performed by the floor and ceiling of the room.

Not only the floor and ceiling, but also the walls of the room act as structural details of the built-in wardrobe. Built-in modules for storing clothes are installed in niches, openings, corners of the room.

The main advantages of embedded storage systems:

  • maximum use of vertical and linear space of niches and corners;
  • a wide range of design solutions;
  • versatility.

According to the number of doors, clothing storage modules are divided into one-, two- and three-leaf models.

wardrobe frame

Having decided to choose a wardrobe, the first thing to do is to decide on the type of design of the piece of furniture, its style design. The second no less important step in the selection is to check whether the module meets the basic requirements for this type of furniture. Particular attention should be paid to the main supporting structure - the frame.

Shapes and sizes of wardrobes

There are several typical forms of the frame of clothing modules:

  • classic rectangular;
  • angular;
  • trapezoidal.

The dimensions of the structural parts of the cabinet must correspond to the anthropometric data of a person, average indicators are taken as a basis. The geometric parameters of the storage system should ensure ease of use.

Typical frame dimensions:

  • height - from 2100 to 2400 mm;
  • depth - 600 mm;
  • width - 500 mm for single-door models, 1000 mm for double-leaf structures.

Cabinet materials

The quality and performance characteristics of wardrobe cabinets largely depend on the materials used in the manufacture of furniture. The frame of the module can be made of solid wood, MDF or chipboard.

In the production of wooden frames, hardwood is used. Wood structures have a number of significant advantages:

  • naturalness and ecological cleanliness;
  • strength;
  • long service life.

However, due to the high cost of natural wood, most consumers prefer chipboard and MDF frames. For the production of side walls, furniture makers mainly use plates with a thickness of 16-18 mm, in some models the thickness can be 22-25 mm.

The thicker the sidewalls, the more stable and durable the structure as a whole.

Cases made of MDF are characterized by not bad performance in terms of quality and durability. Chipboard boards contain a significant amount of formaldehyde resins, the fumes of which are harmful to the human body. Before choosing a cabinet made of chipboard, you need to pay attention to the class of material and the quality of the edges. Chipboards of class E0 and E1 are considered harmless to human health.

The edge is an important element of chipboard furniture, a structural detail prevents formaldehyde from evaporating. In high-quality furniture, all end parts of the cabinet should be covered with an edge. Edging allows you to increase the life of frames made of particle boards.

There are two types of edges:

  • melamine;
  • PVC edge.

Melamine coating is a budget edging option. However, low cost is the only advantage of melamine film over PVC edging.

For edging chipboard boards, PVC film with a thickness of 0.4 to 2 mm is used. The advantages of PVC edges include:

  • resistance to mechanical damage, chips;
  • ability to resist moisture;
  • wear resistance;
  • aesthetic qualities.

The back wall of the cabinet - materials and methods of fastening

The rear wall is not just a structural element of the cabinet, it is a detail that increases the rigidity and stability of the frame. For the manufacture of the back part, wood-fiber and chipboards are used.

The back walls of fiberboard are attached to the sidewalls in two ways:

  • by nailing to the ends of the side parts of the frame;
  • in the groove

Mounting the back wall on nails or screws is the cheapest mounting option, however, the reliability of such mounting is quite low. Installing the surface in special grooves provided in the side walls will prevent the back surface from falling out. In the resulting space between the back wall and the ends of the sidewalls, furniture manufacturers often install stiffeners, which significantly strengthen the structure.

The back of the cabinet, made of chipboard, is pulled together with the sides by means of fittings. This method of fastening is the most reliable and expensive.

The thickness of the rear surface of the cabinet must not be less than 5 mm. A thinner wall under the pressure of things stored in the closet will eventually move away. A defect in the rear wall will entail a decrease in the rigidity of the structure, and in some cases can lead to the complete destruction of the frame.

The back wall may consist of not one, but several parts. In this case, a plastic profile or reinforced tape acts as an element connecting one part to another. The use of reinforced tape is a more aesthetically pleasing option, the connecting strip is located on the outside of the rear surface and is not visible when the doors are opened.

legs

Support legs are no less important structural element than the walls of the frame. Wardrobe cabinets can be equipped with fixed or adjustable legs. Adjustable supports are characterized by increased functionality, legs allow you to compensate for uneven floors. By means of the adjusting mechanism, it is possible to choose the optimal installation height of the cabinet.

Internal filling of the wardrobe and planning rules

If the strength and stability of the cabinet depends on the design features of the case, then its internal equipment is responsible for the functionality and ease of use. The main elements of equipping furniture for storing clothes are:

  • shelves;
  • mezzanine;
  • rods.

Shelves for clothes are a surface made of MDF boards, solid wood or chipboard. The thickness of the shelves must be sufficient to ensure the load-bearing capacity of the piece of equipment. When choosing a module, you should pay attention to the way the storage systems are attached to the frame. In high-quality products, the shelves must be pulled together with the sidewalls with special fittings.

The mezzanine is a long shelf located under the top cover of the cabinet. The mezzanine shelf is used to store seasonal clothes, hats, blankets and other bedding.

A bar is an element of internal equipment designed for hanging garments on hangers. Crossbars are used to store outerwear, dresses, shirts and suits. Rods are made of wood or steel. In the designs of tall cabinets for hanging wardrobe items, pantographs can be used - rods equipped with a mechanism for lowering and raising.

A typical layout of a double-leaf model consists of a wardrobe, a mezzanine and a section with shelves. The internal space of the module can be supplemented with drawers, trousers, devices for hanging ties, mesh shoe baskets.

Facades - structures and finishing materials

The facades of wardrobes differ among themselves in the material of manufacture, construction and design. According to the type of construction, facades are divided into two main types:

  • solid - made from one canvas;
  • frame - consist of several structural elements.

Frame facades are panels made of chipboard, MDF or wood, framed by a frame. The framing can be made of the same materials as the paneled part, or it can be made of a steel profile.

When choosing a module for clothing, one should pay attention not only to the design features of the front part, but also to the material of the coating of the base of the facade. A wide range of materials are used to finish the sashes, the most common are:

  • enamel. Painted facades are characterized by high wear resistance, the enamel layer protects the base from moisture. Painted canvas is easy to clean;
  • veneer. The coating not only increases the wear-resistant qualities of furniture, but also gives the facade a noble appearance. The advantages of veneered bases include repair suitability; in case of mechanical damage, the material can be restored;
  • PVC film. Film cladding is an affordable option for finishing the facade. A layer of PVC film protects the facade from the negative effects of external factors - moisture, ultraviolet radiation. Film-PVC minimizes the possibility of mechanical damage to the front side of the cabinet;
  • plastic. A thin layer of plastic provides protection from mechanical damage, sunlight and moisture. Depending on the type of plastic used, a wide variety of textures can be achieved. Smooth polystyrene films form a matte or glossy surface. Structural plastics, which are thermally shaped during the production process, convey the original texture of imitated materials - leather, relief plaster, wood, etc.;
  • bamboo fabric. Bamboo is an environmentally friendly natural material. The advantages of facades finished with bamboo fabric are the unique texture, durability, resistance to temperature extremes and moisture.

Door opening mechanisms - types and features

One of the most important pieces of furniture in any home is the closet. After all, it is in it that we are accustomed to properly store all clothes, bedding and other things.

Fortunately, today, in furniture stores, you can find a large variety of types of cabinets of the most unusual assembly, with amazing decorative elements. You will learn more about the varieties of this component of the interior in our article.

What are the types of cabinets?

The modern market presents to our attention a lot of different models of this type of furniture. There are several types of wardrobes. The most practical one piece cabinet, assembled from the back and side walls, ceiling, plinth and doors. If necessary, such furniture can be easily disassembled and moved to another room.

Less transportable partially built-in design. It assumes the absence of one or more parts of the assembly (ceiling, plinth, side wall). They are successfully “replaced” by the walls of the room or a niche. It is possible to disassemble and move such a cabinet, but this will be more problematic.

The most successful type of wardrobe for small apartments is built-in design. In this case, the structure can be completely “placed” in a non-bearing wall or assembled from parts, with the absence of one or more components (case ceiling, plinth, side or rear wall).

Whatever your choice is, the main advantage of any type of wardrobe is. They give the interior a uniqueness and emphasize the individuality of style. And due to the unique fastening system, doors (sliding, lifting, "accordion") do not "eat up" the space during opening.

No less popular is the corner cabinet - a type of furniture that allows you to successfully fill the corners of the room. It well complements other types of cabinet furniture in the interior and is no less roomy than conventional rectangular structures.

There are also separate types of kitchen cabinets and elements for the hallway. Their peculiarity lies in the absence of doors and the presence of many shelves and drawers.

For the manufacture of the body of various types of cabinets, materials of various types and textures are used. It can be natural wood, PVC or MDF array, a variety of colors and textures. Doors, in whole or in part, consist of mirror, glass (frosted or transparent) panels, decorated with sandblasted or paintwork patterns or photo printing.

Furniture manufacturers have filled showrooms with a wide variety of cabinets, unique in their construction, design and functionality. Their product range is represented by several types that have one common purpose - the storage of personal belongings of their owner, but at the same time they are completely different from each other in terms of configuration, they differ not only in shape and size, but also in the mechanism of movement of door elements. And each of these species has several more classifications.

On the one hand, this diversity is extremely positive, but at the same time creates additional difficulties in choosing. This article will help you navigate the wide range of this piece of furniture and understand what types of cabinets can be purchased and what are the advantages of each product.

Varieties

All types of cabinets can be divided into two main groups:

  • Swing;
  • Wardrobes.

Swing is a full-fledged body, which includes elements such as walls, bottom, roof and doors.

It can be placed in any part of the room, and if you want to change the layout or rearrange the furniture, the cabinet easily moves to the desired space.

The second group, in turn, is divided into hull, built-in and radius structures. Sliding wardrobes are pieces of furniture built into or partially built into the wall. Unlike solid products, they are more difficult to transport or not subject to it at all. The thing is that wardrobes are most often an element of the room itself, the so-called wall wardrobe, because their partial components are the floor, walls and ceiling.

More recently, textile cabinets have appeared on the furniture market, it is not yet possible to form them into a separate group, but still this is a rather interesting device for storing things. Case-cover - that's what manufacturers call these designs. They are a soft aluminum case covered with fabric.

Wardrobes and wardrobes come in three forms:

  • straight;
  • corner;
  • Radius.

Straight cabinet - the classic and most common model. Straight models are equipped with a large number of shelves and allow you to place even several hanger rods.

But corner cabinets deserve more attention, as they are divided into several more subspecies:

  • L-shaped models. The design of the cabinet occupies the corner of the room and two adjacent walls. This is the standard type of corner cabinets.
  • diagonal patterns. They are also built into the corner of the room, but at the same time they have the shape of a triangle, ergonomically occupy space, providing owners with a large area for storing things.

  • Trapezoidal. Everything is by analogy - the cabinet has the shape of a trapezoid, belongs to asymmetric structures, provides an additional storage system.
  • Five-walled. The combined version of the corner cabinet is an L-shaped model, half of which can be either diagonal or trapezoidal. Such a geometric shape can have both wardrobes and wardrobe models.

Radius-shaped structures are an innovation in the furniture market, they differ in their original design and at the same time retain all the functional features of wardrobes. There are no dress radius models. Radius structures are also divided into several subspecies:

  • Convex. The most advantageous location for a convex cabinet is a niche;
  • Concave. This type of radius cabinets is most often cased rather than built-in;

  • Combined or wavy. They are a combination of convex and concave elements, visually resembles a wave;
  • Round. They have a full-fledged radial circle shape, but are rarely found in residential premises due to the fact that they consume a large amount of space.

In addition to the supporting structure, door elements are included in the basic package of the cabinet front.

They are of several types:

  • Swing;
  • Sliding;
  • Folding;
  • Roller shutters.

As a rule, the first type of door elements is most often found in garments. This door movement system has a simple and reliable device, it consists of hinges that are installed on the side walls of the cabinet and directly on the door leaf itself.

Sliding door elements have a more complex system of leaf movement, this mechanism includes guide rollers, wheels and movement limiters. There are sliding doors with roller shutters exclusively in wardrobes and according to the type of fastening of the guides are of two types:

  • Top hung;
  • Bottom hung.

The first type of fastening is rarely used in cabinet-type wardrobes, more often in built-in models. The reason for this is that the main load of the door elements and the sliding system falls on the ceiling structure, which, for example, is extremely inconvenient in the presence of stretch or plasterboard ceilings, because additional ceiling reinforcement will be required, otherwise it simply will not withstand the weight. In the case of built-in models, one way or another, installation work will have to be done.

Bottom-hung fasteners transfer the support points of the door sections to the floor structure, due to this, the system is considered more reliable and has a longer service life. Guide roller shutters are made of either aluminum or steel, the wheels, in turn, are made of rubber-coated plastic, which ensures smooth and silent movement of the cabinet doors.

Products with folding doors are a hybrid of swing and sliding mechanisms. Otherwise, this system is called "accordion" due to the fact that the principle of movement of the flaps imitates the folding of accordion furs. Guide rails in sliding wardrobes are mounted at the top, door leaves consist of several parts, each of which is fastened with a movable element.

Cabinet doors made in the form of roller shutters are a simple and democratic way to equip a wardrobe, the mechanism of roller shutters is very similar to blinds and operates on the same principle - the slats are securely fastened together and move along the guide wings. The advantage of such a “door” is that it is easy to replace a broken element.

In addition to the four main types, there are also models of cabinets with lifting doors. Despite the ease of use and reliability, it is not often possible to meet lifting mechanisms, because due to the complex design, these mechanisms are quite expensive, and besides, they can only be used in small wardrobe modules.

Features and Specifications

Let us consider in more detail the designs of all types of cabinets with their advantages and disadvantages.

So, wardrobes in their diversity differ in such characteristics as construction dimensions, facade design, cost and functional affiliation. Of course, modern wardrobes have slightly pressed their predecessors, but nevertheless, they still remain quite in demand among buyers.

The swing wardrobe consists of elements such as hinged doors, shelves and mezzanines for storing things, as well as a compartment with a crossbar in the form of a wooden stick or a tube for hangers where clothes can be hung.

This product gives its owners the opportunity to use the living space in the most rational way due to the mobility of the structure, the ability to assemble and disassemble it, and also move it to another area. A wardrobe, unlike a wardrobe, provides maximum access to storage systems, of course, it cannot be fully considered a modular design, but it is still possible to remove and install some elements from the internal configuration of the product, adjusting the optimal height of the shelves.

A wide product range with its variety of facade design options and colors makes it easy to choose a product for any interior - from traditional classics to ultra-modern styles.

The advantages of cabinets with hinged doors is that they have:

  • Wider variety of model range;
  • Noiseless mechanism for opening door elements;
  • democratic value;
  • The service life reaches several tens of years.

The disadvantage of these systems is that additional space is required to open the doors, which is not always convenient to use.

Sliding wardrobes with a hinged door system are rare. As you know, this type of product has mainly two types of leaf movement mechanism:

  • With sliding doors. Their advantage lies in the simplicity and ease of use, it is also important that this door movement system saves space, as it does not require space to open the doors, as in swing models. The service life of sliding structures reaches 10 years, which is significantly lower than that of swing mechanisms, so this fact can be attributed to disadvantages.
  • Folding mechanisms for the movement of door leaves. They combine the advantages of sliding and swing systems. They take up less space than hinged ones, but at the same time, unlike sliding mechanisms, they give full access to the internal compartments of the cabinet.

Cabinet and built-in wardrobe models also have their own characteristics and characteristics. So, the built-in structure does not have a full-fledged frame, its components are door folds. In some cases, a roof or floor is installed, for example, if the apartment has a stretch ceiling or uneven floors.

By the way, one of the most important advantages of built-in models is the ability to correct and hide the geometric imperfections of the premises.

The cabinet components are fixed directly to the walls, floor and ceiling, so the installation of this type of construction always requires installation work. Built-in models are not transportable, and the point is not that they cannot be dismantled, the reason for this is completely individual measurements, which makes the design unique for one room where it was originally installed according to the project. For example, already on the second floor of the same house or simply in other rooms, and even more so in apartments, the required space geometry, its width and length, the optimal ceiling height, etc. may not match.

The internal configuration of built-in models depends solely on the needs of the future owner, which makes them roomy and functional. Such cabinets are made only to order, it is hardly impossible to buy a finished product according to the required dimensions.

Cabinet models of wardrobes, in turn, have a frame, although not always complete. These products acquire such advantages as the possibility of transportation, mobility and versatility of the design. Ready-made models of cabinet cabinets are much cheaper than custom-made products. It should be borne in mind that the cabinet models, although partially, are still attached to the walls, so the presence of drywall boxes on the wall structure can be a reason to refuse to buy a cabinet wardrobe. But at the same time, the absence of additional frame elements allows you to fully use the area available for storage.

Dimensions

Regardless of the type of structure that the future owner of the wardrobe or wardrobe wants to purchase, it is first necessary to measure the room and that part of it where the product is planned to be installed. It is important not only to calculate the width, length, height of the space and fix the usable area, but also to take into account the presence of switches, sockets, door and window openings and the doors themselves and window sashes, window sills, heating systems, etc.

Only after measuring the space, the dimensions of the structure are approximately determined, taking into account skirting boards, all kinds of gaps and irregularities. The wardrobe can be either low on legs or fill the entire space from floor to ceiling. The next step is to determine the allowable depth of the product. According to the standard, it reaches 0.6 m, but it can be either more or less.

There are some optimal parameters, which are not recommended to be violated.

Otherwise, the product may become potentially dangerous to use, for example:

  • The width of horizontal shelves should not exceed 1 m, otherwise they may bend, but having a shelf width of less than 0.4 m is not recommended for the same reason.
  • The length of the hanger bar on average should be no more than 0.9 m, otherwise the crossbar will sag.
  • If the width of the laundry box exceeds 0.6 meters, then the bottom must be made of chipboard plywood, not fiberboard, otherwise it may deform.

The presence of hinged or folding doors in the design also requires additional measurements, the same applies to retractable modules - user space must be taken into account for each detail.

Color solutions

Initially, it should be noted that finding a product of the desired color scheme is not a difficult task, especially the ability to order a design according to individual parameters saves here, but it will be more difficult to decide on the desired color scheme and, most importantly, choose it correctly.

Designers have developed three main aspects that should be considered when choosing the colors of cabinets.

Introoperability of colors

In other words, a harmonious combination of colors and shades is introoperability. It includes four main concepts of color solutions in the interior design of the room, which are determined using the color wheel:

  • Monochrome concept. The principle of monochrome color combination is to choose one color either cold or warm colors. The interior, in turn, uses three of its variations: the main shade, lighter and darker. The facade of the cabinet is most often made to match the walls or in light colors, and the body is dark, which visually reduces the dimensions of the structure.
  • The concept of combination on the principle of similarity. In this case, the choice of one color is the basis, it is considered the main one, and the remaining two are located from it on the color wheel at an angle of 15-25 degrees. It is important that the angle of inclination on the color wheel is the same for both the second and third colors.

  • Contrasting combination. Choose two opposite colors on the color wheel. To determine which color is opposite to the main one, you can draw a straight line from it, passing through the center of the circle. It is advisable to choose colors of calm tones so that the contrast is not too catchy and repulsive.
  • Accent. This combination principle, unlike the others, contains four colors for a combination, the first three are often chosen according to a monochrome concept, and the fourth is chosen by him according to the principle of a contrasting combination.

Combination with the interior

It is important to take into account that in addition to color solutions, textures, prints and all kinds of patterns can be present in the decor of the room; it is very rare to find a completely monochromatic design of the facade of a cabinet or room decoration. It is necessary to adhere to several basic combination concepts, not forgetting your own preferences and originality.

The most common concept is a combination of the cabinet front with wallpaper in the same colors and textures. So, the product seems to be masked and becomes less noticeable. This is beneficial for small areas, as the space is visually freed from the cabinet structure array.

Another combination option, on the contrary, is focusing on the product, making it dominant in space. It looks very impressive if the cabinet has an unusual design or facade decor, but it should be borne in mind that this will lead to a visual loss of free space, which is unprofitable for small rooms.

In addition to finishing materials, it is possible and even necessary to combine the color and texture design of the cabinet with the rest of the furniture. Most often, this is done through a single design of the cases of various interior items.

Psychological perception

This factor is individual for each person, but its application in practice allows you to create a unique atmosphere and environment in the room, which disposes or encourages certain actions and moods.

Each color has its own psychological effect on a person's mood. But at the same time, one should not forget about individual and personal perception. Each person can associate colors with completely unexpected moods. It is important to take into account the fact that each color in the interior has its own character:

  • Red. A rather aggressive color, practically not suitable for recreation areas, but the design of a personal office or a modern kitchen area is quite within the power of red shades. They will provide energy for the whole day.
  • Green. The main superpower of this color is relaxation. Green will help you relax and recharge with positive energy after a hard day.
  • Blue. This color is associated with severity, but at the same time it has a calming ability. So the design of cabinets for work areas and offices in blue is the best solution, it will help you tune in to work.

  • Violet. Despite its showiness, this color is not recommended to be used as the main one, but purple is ideal for creating accents.
  • White. The color of purity and tranquility, according to psychological perception, it is considered neutral, but visually expands the space and creates an atmosphere of freedom.

  • Grey. It is generally accepted that gray is also a neutral color, it does not create moods, but due to its coldness it is able to soothe, and therefore relax.
  • Black. It is considered the leading color in terms of ambiguity of perception - for some it is a symbol of conciseness and taste, while for others it causes a feeling of anxiety. In any case, it is easy to fit black into any interior, but designers do not recommend using it in large quantities.

Brown. Most of the cabinets in brown colors are made from natural wood species - elite products, or from materials imitating wood. It is a warm and cozy color.

Woody classification of brown shades should be given special attention:

  • Wenge. Dark woody shades, ideal for creating contrasting combinations.
  • Oak. It can be from the lightest, slightly pinkish to rich dark shades. Luxurious color for both the facade and the body of the product.
  • Nut. It has a dark yellow shade of warm tones, a versatile enough color for any type of decor.
  • Cherry. It is cherry that has the lightest and most delicate color of wood; it fits perfectly into the interior of rooms for rest and sleep, for children.
  • Beech. Like walnut, the color of beech species can be considered universal, it varies in a light color range of shades.

Another interesting concept of color design is “seasons”, it basically contains four basic principles of combination, but the choice of shades and gamut is selected taking into account the owner’s favorite season:

  • Summer. The main colors are blue and white, the interior is complemented by blue, green and beige tones.
  • Autumn. Warm colors of red combined with blues, yellows, browns, blacks and grays.

  • Winter. Blue, red, brown and white colors are taken as a basis, either cold or very warm colors.
  • Spring. Juicy and lively shades of colors such as green, red, blue or blue, white or beige are taken as the basis.

Of course, in this concept, all colors are described approximately. The best solution would be to play with associations and decorate the space in the colors that come to mind when thinking about a particular season.

materials

Basically, for the manufacture of cabinets, materials such as:

  • Chipboard - chipboard. One of the most affordable, but at the same time, high-quality materials. It is used for the manufacture of internal components of the product (dividers for shelves) and body elements;
  • LDSP, chipboard. Thanks to lamination, it becomes a reliable material with a long service life; it is used to make body elements, shelves and facades.
  • Fiberboard. Strong, lightweight material for the manufacture of the back walls and bottoms of drawers;

  • MDF - finely dispersed fraction. In terms of use, it competes with laminated chipboard, but has a number of advantages - moisture resistance, ease of painting, which replenishes the range of furniture stores. The disadvantage is the high cost;
  • Natural wood. It is used in the production of luxury-class models, natural material provides a guarantee of quality, durability and environmental friendliness of the product, but at the same time increases the cost of the cabinet;
  • Rattan. Decorative material from tropical liana is used to decorate facades;

  • Bamboo. It is decorative, like rattan;
  • Lakobel or frosted glass. It has a variety of colors, used for decorating facades.

Cabinet fittings are mainly made of metal, such as steel, chrome or aluminum, but there are plastic and wooden parts - handles, hinges, fasteners, furniture locks, rods, swivel mechanisms and holders. There are designs without handles - their doors open after pressing and are equipped with closers.

Equipment

Some people have associations with the word “wardrobe” with a massive wardrobe, behind one of the doors of which there is a department for hangers, and behind the second - drawers and shelves. Yes, the models presented on the furniture market about three or four decades ago looked something like this, but modern design and functional components have turned the wardrobe into an indispensable piece of furniture for a private house or apartment. Today, wardrobe interiors are completed with a complementary set that includes drawers, horizontal shelves, rods, mezzanines, and sometimes modular elements.

If we talk about the department of the cabinet with a bar, then here the models can be presented in two different configurations. These are hanger bars, fixed in the end way. Most often, such structures are equipped with a retractable element, they can be found in shallow structures or in cabinets, where the hanger section takes up little space and is quite narrow. Opening the sash, the owner will see only one set of hangers with clothes, but by pulling out the bar, he will have access to the rest of the wardrobe. In terms of ergonomics and rational use of space, this is a very convenient option. The second option for placing the bar is longitudinal. This is a standard way of completing the hanger section, it allows you to accommodate the maximum number of things, but it is important to know that the minimum depth of such a product should be at least 0.6 m.

The second section is intended for storing personal belongings and wardrobe items when folded. In this part of the cabinet, in addition to shelves, drawers can be located. Most often there are no more than 4 pieces and they are relatively small in size and are designed to store underwear or other small things at the discretion of the owner. In terms of functionality, most models of wardrobes are equipped with additional shelves for shelves, this allows users to independently choose the height of the shelves and their number within the allowable range.

Wardrobes, consisting of modular elements - design designs, incomparable in their functionality and individuality with any piece of furniture, which is why the configuration of modular wardrobes should be given special attention. In fact, modular furniture is a full-fledged design, which includes several cabinets of various configurations, purposes and sizes.

The basic elements of modular cabinets include racks with open and closed storage systems, corner modules (if the design is L-shaped), TV cabinets, side sections, wardrobe elements, pencil cases, bookcases, chests of drawers, sideboards, etc. e. All these elements are fastened together with intersectional ties, which turn individual elements into a complete cabinet design.

The most important advantage of these designs is that the modules are chosen by the owner independently, taking into account the needs, and over time, the cabinet can be supplemented with other elements from the same collection.

Sliding wardrobes in their internal structure do not differ much from wardrobes, but their important feature is the ability to select internal modules of the storage system solely at the discretion of the owner. In this case, the question arises: how to properly plan the useful area of \u200b\u200bthe cabinet and make it as convenient and functional as possible?

The wardrobe equipment is influenced by the number of personal belongings and wardrobe items, the available free space inside the structure and the client's budget.

Based on the financial capabilities of the customer and his requirements, an initial sketch is created with several options for the location of the elements of the storage system. The dimensions of the structure, on which the number of departments / sections of the product depends, are also taken into account.

With a small area, the client, as a rule, opts for a design with one or two sections, but even in such a small cabinet you can fit hanger bars (most likely across the body to save space), shelves, a couple of drawers and shelves for women things or bags.

Designs of large sizes, respectively, have a large number of configuration options. In such cabinets, you can already store seasonal items, shoes or bedding. By the way, there are even special modular boxes for bedding - their feature is the presence of fragrances for linen. For the beautiful half, manufacturers have provided not only modules for storing cosmetics, but also entire built-in dressing tables, but more on that later.

In order to make the most functional use of the cabinet space, it is recommended to divide the storage system into three zones:

  • Mezzanine - upper shelves. Used to store rarely used items such as extra sets of duvets, pillows, seasonal items and other non-essential items.
  • The main storage sections are in the middle of the cabinet. Here are the wardrobe items most frequently used.
  • The lower sections are shelves at the bottom. This area is most often used for storing shoes, travel bags, etc.

Equipping the structure with such an additional element as LED lighting has become popular and very original. This element can be both decorative and functional. External illumination of the cabinet facade is considered decorative, it demonstrates its design and makes it part of the lighting design of the room. Functional, in turn, is considered internal lighting, it is necessary when the main lighting is not enough, this problem is especially acute for the overall structures of wardrobes.

Both indoor and outdoor lighting should have a power source, if possible this is a built-in socket inside, but if it is not available, then there is a battery-powered lighting unit.

And finally, a complete set of transformer cabinets, otherwise they are called matryoshka cabinets. This is an unusual idea for one-room studios or modern small apartments. Such smart furniture combines the functions of several interior items at once, and at the same time rationally consumes space.

In addition to the basic design of the cabinet, the transformer can be supplemented with:

  • Table. It can be both a surface for a dining area, a coffee table, and a desktop;
  • Bed or sofa. The sleeping section can be part of the sofa and hidden in its design until there is a need for use, or it can simply be framed by cabinet shelves;
  • Children's house or play area.

It is noteworthy that such cabinets can be both with doors and without them. This allows you to also get a hidden additional area for work or leisure.

How to choose?

When choosing, it is important to take into account several main aspects that have a great influence on the final result of buying a cabinet.

  • Dimensions of the room and structure;
  • The material from which the product is made;
  • Build quality;
  • Functionality;
  • capacity;
  • Facade decoration;
